The TikTok shop selling LUT color packs turned its 120 looks into a subscription app
What it is An iPhone color-grading app: import Log footage shot on iPhone, DJI, Sony and other cameras, it converts it to normal color automatically, then you apply one of the shop's 120 cinematic looks and export. Free to start; Pro is $49.99/year or $99.99 lifetime.
Why it's getting attention It isn't really taking off yet. It charts in small countries' Top Grossing, thanks to the TikTok LUT store behind it with 58k followers: returning customers pay, and store bundles include three to twelve months of Pro. The TikTok videos still push the store, never the app.
CHow you could follow this LUT and preset sellers with existing content and audiences can copy it: build the third-party-import step into their own app, switch one-time purchases to subscriptions, and use store bundles to give members a cold start. Developers without an audience have more to gain from building white-label apps for these shop owners, charging development fees or a revenue share.

The Looks Lab is an iPhone color-grading app launched in Oct 2026 28, built by a small shop that sells LUT packs on TikTok. Nine days after launch it has only appeared on the Top Grossing charts in Ghana and Ireland, and its US rating count is still 0. The product itself has nothing worth copying. What's worth watching is the move: a shop selling one-off asset packs moved those assets into its own app and switched to an annual fee.
A video saying "comment COMBO and I'll send you the link"
In Sep 2025 10, the TikTok account @the.lookslab posted a video whose caption opens with: "Color grade your D-Log M videos in a single tap on your iphone! Comment \"COMBO\" and i'll send you the link!"
The reason is in the second half. A week earlier they had posted a tutorial on using LUTs on a phone, and many people came back asking the same question: how do you grade the D-Log M flat footage from a DJI Osmo Pocket 3? So they made a "combo LUT" that merges the Log conversion and the style grade into one file, which you apply in a phone editing app and you're done.
As of 11-06 the video has 276k views and 4,172 comments (TikTok, 11-06). The comments are almost all "combo please," with the rest asking "does it work with the Pocket 3?" "Action 6?" "360 camera?" "Android?" and several people simply asking for "free luts."
The comments show two things: many people shoot Log, and most of them can't grade it; and what they care about is "will it work with my camera," not the LUT itself. Fourteen months later, the shop built both into one app.
What it is
A post-production-only iPhone app: you import Log video from your camera roll, it converts the flat footage to normal color, you tap a look, drag the strength, and export back to your camera roll.
- Conversion: iPhone's Apple Log / Apple Log 2 are detected automatically; for other cameras you tell it the model once and it remembers. Over a dozen Log formats are supported: DJI D-Log and D-Log M, Sony S-Log3, Canon Log, Panasonic V-Log, Fujifilm F-Log, Nikon N-Log, GoPro, Insta360 I-Log.
- Looks: 120 in total, the same set as the LUT packs the store sells (Cinematic, Movie, Travel, Hybrid, Essence, Vintage). Each look card shows your own footage, so you can see the effect before choosing.
- Other: standard adjustments like exposure and white balance; copy and paste grades across a batch of clips and export in bulk; up to 4K 10-bit HEVC. The store page specifically notes "no sign-up, no uploads, no tracking."
- Pricing: the free version includes conversion for all camera models, 2 looks, and 5 exports at 1080p or higher; Pro is $49.99/year or $99.99 lifetime (App Store page, 11-06).
The developer is listed on the store as JCDP, with this app as the only one under the name. The official site thelookslab.com is a Shopify store, and the Facebook page shows an address in Antwerp, Belgium. On day five (11-02) they shipped version 1.2, and the last line of the release notes reads "Enjoying the app? A quick rating really helps."
Did it actually take off?
No. The only chart appearances I can find are these three:
| Date | Country | Charts | Rank |
|---|---|---|---|
| 11-04 | Ireland | Photo & Video Top Grossing | 142 |
| 11-05 | Ghana | Overall Top Grossing 98, Photo & Video Top Grossing 14 | — |
| 11-06 | Ghana | Photo & Video Top Grossing | 26 |
App Store charts by country, 11-04 to 11-06. Over those three days the rating count stayed at 0.
The overall Top Grossing bar in Ghana is very low: a few $49.99 or $99.99 in-app purchases can get you into the top 100; Ireland's #142 in its category also points to very few paying users. My read: only single-digit people pay per day, most of them likely returning store customers, and there's no sign of activity yet in the US or main European markets.
Where users come from
TikTok is the old base. @the.lookslab has 58,328 followers, 1.88M likes and 683 videos (TikTok, 11-06). The two most popular are before-and-after grades of DJI D-Log M footage, with 250k to 280k views each. The profile link goes straight to the store's The Look Bundle, and a store review says in so many words: "Found The Looks Lab on TikTok." There's also 19k followers on IG and 16k YouTube subscribers.
But since the app launched, TikTok has never promoted it. From 10-29 to 11-05 they posted 9 videos shot on Osmo Pocket 4, Osmo Action 6 and Insta360, all captioned "Color graded with our Look Bundle (link in bio)," with views ranging from two or three thousand to 52k, and not one mentions the app.
App users are currently coming mainly from the store. The Look Bundle is now $49.95 (crossed-out $209.95), and includes three months of Pro with the app; the All-In-One Bundle is $89.95 and includes a year of Pro (thelookslab.com, 11-06). The store also has a free starter pack that asks you four questions and sends free LUTs matched to your camera, in exchange for your email.
What I couldn't find: press coverage, discussion on X, public revenue figures. I didn't find any ad spend either, but not finding it doesn't mean there isn't any.
Why they built this app
The demand is real. Osmo Pocket 3/4, Osmo Action, and Apple Log on iPhone 15 Pro have left plenty of people shooting flat, grey footage. Reviews keep saying the same thing: "I can't color grade, I just drop it in and it works."
The catch is that selling .cube files solves only half the problem. Users still have to download them, import them into CapCut or VN, and pick the right conversion LUT. The store's help pages ended up with a long run of tutorials on "how to use it in VN and LumaFusion," and its own help page even suggests users apply LUTs in someone else's app (VideoLUT). Building an app removes those steps, and a one-time purchase can naturally become a subscription.
The pricing is clearly copied from the storefront: the $49.99 annual plan matches Look Bundle's $49.95, and the $99.99 lifetime price is close to the All-In-One bundle. Existing customers switch over and pay the same amount they did before.
Who it's competing with
| Competitors | Scale (US store) | How it differs |
|---|---|---|
| LUT Studio(Phoneframes) | 816 ratings, charted in 15 countries, best rank #12 | The closest precedent: also built by a creator brand selling courses and LUTs, launched 2024 years ago, but more of a general-purpose LUT editor |
| PeekLut | 716 ratings | A pro grading tool that imports any .cube, with no in-house looks |
| VideoLUT | 68 ratings, ships with 6000+ looks | An old 2016-year-old tool with lots of looks but no particular style |
| LogGate Pro / LUTLab | LUTLab, 1 ratings; Pro was covered by CineD, $19.99 one-time purchase | Focused on accurate Apple Log conversion, technically oriented |
| CineCut, Pocket Finish, Lutsy, LutKit, AnyLUT and others | Most have 0 to 24 ratings | A batch of indie LUT apps that appeared between 2026 and October 6, with no audience and no in-house looks |
| CapCut, VN, LumaFusion, DJI Mimo | Massive user base | All can import .cube files, which is exactly where The Looks Lab originally told users to go |
| Blackmagic Camera, Final Cut Camera | Free | Preview LUTs while shooting, not style selection in post |
App Store rating count: 11-06.
"Applying LUTs to Log on iPhone" alone has seen more than a dozen new apps this year, so there's no room left at the tool layer. The Looks Lab differs in only two ways: its looks are a brand that has been selling for a while, and it has ready-made traffic and paying customers behind it. Followers can't get either.
If it were you
Verdict: this app hasn't proven anything yet. What's worth learning is one path: a shop selling asset packs builds the "import from third-party software" step into its own app, switches one-time purchases to subscriptions, and uses store bundles to give members a cold start for the new app. A developer without their own assets and audience who builds yet another LUT app will most likely land among those 0 to 24 rating apps.
Who it fits: ① creators who already sell LUTs, Lightroom presets, sound effects, transitions or caption templates; ② iOS developers who can build apps for those creators. The second is the more promising angle: there are many LUT stores (Ypresets, Absoluts, Stalman and others), and I didn't find any that offers a subscription app tied to its own looks, most lacking the ability to build one themselves. "Automatic Log conversion + swappable looks + brand skin" as a shared base could be pitched store by store, charging development fees or a revenue share.
Who it doesn't fit: indie developers hoping for organic App Store traffic and competing on features. The tool layer is saturated, and the big-name editing apps are free.
How it works: routes users by camera model. DJI, iPhone and Insta360 each have their own entry point, since the first question every user asks is "does this work with my camera?" Look cards show the user's own footage. All conversions and two or three looks are free; Pro unlocks everything. Pricing follows the shop's original bundle prices so long-time customers feel it's the same product in a new format, not an extra cost.
How it gets users: relies on the shop's existing channels. Web store bundles include App membership, pulling existing customers in and building ratings. On TikTok, it runs the "comment keyword to get the link" playbook with before/after videos, but the destination is changed to the App: "this look is one tap in the App." The Looks Lab hasn't done this yet; its videos all push the web store.
Is it too late? No rush. Osmo Pocket 4 and Action 6 just launched, and the number of beginners shooting Log should keep growing through late this year and into the first half of next year. But this business runs on audience, not timing.
Signs you've read it wrong: ① By late December, The Looks Lab's US store ratings pass 100, or its TikTok starts pushing the App, and the App breaks into the US Photo & Video Top Grossing top 100: that means "store-to-App" can run on its own and is worth moving on earlier. ② The reverse: if in two or three months it's still only charting occasionally in small countries, the web store remains the core, meaning existing customers would rather buy files than add another subscription. That path is less appealing to shop owners, so outsourcing deals will be hard to land. ③ If DJI in Mimo or Apple in Photos makes "one-tap Log to normal color + style" a free feature, this whole category takes a hit.

One line
A creator shop that sells LUT color packs on TikTok (The Looks Lab) has turned its 120 looks into a native iPhone app through 2026-10-28. Import log footage, automatically convert it to normal color, tap a look, and export at 4K 10-bit. Free to use. Pro is $49.99 per year or $99.99 lifetime.
Verdict
It hasn't really taken off yet. The "charting" we see in our data comes from a handful of in-app purchases in small countries with very low Top Grossing thresholds, and the rating count is still 0 today. What's worth watching isn't its results but its playbook: a digital product shop with an existing audience and paying customers upgrades a one-time-purchase LUT pack into a subscription App, then uses App Pro membership as a freebie with web store bundles. Its differentiators (its own look brand, plus a beginner-friendly "auto-convert + pick a look" flow) come from the existing shop and TikTok account, not from the App itself.

The Looks Lab's original business was selling LUTs for users to load into these apps; the new App removes the steps of "download .cube → import → pick the right conversion LUT" |
| Similar LUT web stores (Ypresets, Absoluts, Stalman, Gamut, which offers free LUT conversion, etc.) | Web | Already there | Each has its own SEO and content channels | They all sell files; I couldn't find anyone running a native App that sells subscriptions to their own looks |
Judgment: "applying LUTs to Log on iPhone" is crowded, with a dozen-plus indie Apps launched in the past 2026 years. The Looks Lab stands apart on two points: the looks are a brand that has been selling for a while, and the App is backed by existing traffic and paying customers.
3. Growth levers: where users come from
- TikTok content (confirmed): @the.lookslab has 58,328 followers, 1.88M likes, and 683 videos (TikHub, 2026-11-06). The hits are all "DJI D-Log M one-click grade" before-and-after clips, 250k to 280k views. One video drove 4,172 comments with "comment COMBO and I'll send you the link." The profile link carries a UTM that goes straight to The Look Bundle (utm_source=TikTok). One store review says, verbatim, "Found The Looks Lab on TikTok."
- But after the app launched, TikTok still pushes the store bundle, not the app (confirmed): of the 9 videos posted from 10-29 to 11-05, the captions all read "Color graded with our Look Bundle (link in bio)," with views from a few thousand to 52k. Not one mentions the app. So the app is not getting any dedicated organic traffic yet.
- Store bundles include app membership (confirmed): The Look Bundle is now $49.95 (compare-at $209.95) and includes "3 Months Free Pro in The Looks Lab App." The All-In-One Bundle is $89.95 and includes 1 years of Pro (thelookslab.com product page, 2026-11-06). Most early app users are probably store buyers redeeming the perk, or people funneled into the app.
- Free starter pack collects emails (confirmed): /pages/free asks 4 questions, sends free LUTs by camera model, and then converts the email list. This channel could also push the app.
- IG 19k, YouTube 16k subscribers / 504 videos (confirmed, from search result snippets): short-form video spread across platforms.
- Ads, press, X (not found): searching "The Looks Lab" in x-radar returned no relevant results. No press coverage found. Ad library not checked (not on the tracking list).
- App Store search: the title and subtitle lean on terms like "Log," "cinematic," and "LUT," but the rating is 0, so search ranking should be weak (unverified).
4. Why it's getting traction (the small amount it has)
- The demand is real. DJI Osmo Pocket 3/4, Osmo Action, and iPhone 15 Pro's Apple Log / Log 2 have left many beginners with flat, gray footage they don't know how to grade. Store reviews keep repeating "I don't know how to grade, I just drag it in and it works."
- There is already a paying audience. The store page says "Trusted by 10,000+ creators," and the product page shows 4.9 stars / 45 reviews (self-reported by the store, unverified). That shows people will pay for looks.
- Auto-conversion by camera model, with a preview of the look on your own footage, cuts the friction of "download .cube → pick a conversion LUT → import into CapCut" down to one tap. The store's help pages already have to explain at length how to use it in VN or LumaFusion. The app removes that friction outright.
- Pricing carries over from the store. The annual price of $49.99 matches The Look Bundle's $49.95 exactly, and the lifetime price of $99.99 is close to the bundle's compare-at price, so returning customers can switch to the app at the same mental price.
5. Differentiation, and whether that's why it took off
The differentiation is in the content, not the tool: 120 proprietary looks (Cinematic, Movie, Travel, Hybrid, Essence, Vintage) that match the effects shown on TikTok every day, plus automatic Log conversion covering DJI, Sony, Canon, Panasonic, Fuji, Nikon, GoPro, Insta360. As a pure tool, it's roughly on par with PeekLut, LUT Studio, and VideoLUT. This differentiation is not what's driving growth right now, because it hasn't taken off yet. It shows up on small-country charts because of existing store customers and brand traffic. For the differentiation to become the growth driver, TikTok has to start pointing videos at the app instead of the store (for example, "get this look in one tap with the app").
6. Visibility and copycats
- Visibility: few people know about it yet. No public revenue, no TrustMRR listing, no coverage from media or big X accounts. The app rating is 0. Its TikTok account has some name recognition in the DJI grading niche.
- Copycats: none specifically found copying it. But "creator brand → LUT app" already has a precedent in LUT Studio (Phoneframes), and 2026 has seen a large wave of independent LUT apps.
7. What to borrow
- Digital asset shops → subscription apps: shops selling presets, LUTs, sound effects, transitions, and caption templates as .zip files can build the "import into third-party software" step into their own app and switch from one-time purchase to subscription.
- Store bundles that include app membership (3 months or 1 years of Pro): use an existing channel to cold-start a new app while collecting ratings and retention data.
- Per-camera packs plus auto-conversion: segment users by the device they shoot on (DJI, iPhone, Insta360). This hits harder than generic "cinematic filters."
- TikTok "comment a keyword to get the link": the video that drew 4,000 comments is the standard play for engagement plus DM conversion.
8. Still unclear
- Real app downloads and paid conversions: small-country charts only show a trickle of payers. The volume in major markets like the US and Europe is unknown.
- Whether TikTok will switch to pushing the app; how the store's bundled Pro is redeemed (a code or an account link); whether free-membership users count toward charting.
- The "10,000+ creators" claim and the store reviews are self-reported and unverified. The store's revenue scale is unknown.
- Ad spend not checked (not on the ad library tracking list).
