# A mom blogger's PDF recipe book became a subscription app: 17 people trialed it in a week, and it charted at #19 on the Ukraine Food & Drink Top Grossing

**What it is** A Ukrainian-language family weekly meal-plan subscription app: recipes written by a nutritionist mom are automatically arranged into a week of breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks, each dish notes how kids can eat it, and it filters by allergens and builds a shopping list automatically.

**Why it took off** The author already had 34k Telegram subscribers and 7000 longtime customers who had bought her PDFs. A few posts with 1-cent trial links brought in a dozen-plus paid trials in a week, and the Ukraine Food & Drink Top Grossing chart has a very low bar, so a few subscriptions were enough to reach the top 20.

**C** **How you could follow it** Don't copy the Ukrainian meal-plan app itself. Copy the playbook: find (or be) a content creator with tens of thousands of targeted followers who has sold ebooks, turn the one-off PDF into a family-priced subscription PWA with an iOS wrapper, use a 1-cent trial plus channel-post conversion, and connect it to local grocery carts.

C grade: It only took off because of the author's own private audience and longtime buyers, which followers can't reproduce. The volume is also tiny, a dozen-plus trials a week. You can learn the "content creator turns a PDF into a subscription app" playbook, but without a creator partnership, directly following it isn't worth the effort. Few people know about it yet

Ukrainian children's nutrition blogger Yuliia Sakhno (Юля Сахно) runs a Telegram channel with 34k subscribers and has sold PDF recipe books for years. In 2026 October, she turned the book into a monthly-subscription app, "Конструктор Меню" (Konstruktor Menu for Families), which in Nov 6 charted at #19 on the Ukraine App Store Food & Drink Top Grossing chart. Yet it has only 2 ratings in total, and the author says 17 moms tried it in the last week. This piece breaks down how it got there, how small the volume really is, and what others can take from it.

### "Yesterday another 4 moms joined"

At the end of October, the channel "Мама, я Голодний" ("Mom, I'm Hungry") ran a poll: who decides what's for dinner at home? 280 people answered, 73% said "always me," 18% said "mostly me." The next day she posted: "Nine out of ten of us carry this in our heads every single day." Then came an intro, and the last line:

> Yesterday 4 more moms joined Konstruktor. Try it too: 7 days for 1 UAH.

The link carries `utm_campaign=oct26`. A few days later she ran another poll, asking "What's stopping you from trying it?" 162 people answered: a third picked "another app I'll drop in a week," about as many picked "I don't know what this is," and one in six said "too expensive." The posts over the following days each answered one objection: no daily check-ins, no meal-planning chores, "it's just there when you need it"; 199 UAH a month for two people, or 1390 UAH a year for three, "that works out to under 39 UAH per person per month"; "the 1 UAH price is only valid for 24 hours after sign-up" and "we email you the day before any charge, and you can cancel in one tap on your profile page." One post in the series also said: "In the past 7 days, 17 moms have tried Konstruktor this way." (Telegram channel t.me/mamaiagolodniy, 11-06 views)

That's the whole acquisition process: an existing channel, a handful of carefully written posts, and a 1 UAH trial.

### What it sells

Open the app and you get a full week of menus: breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner, seven days filled in. Swap out any dish you don't like with one tap. The ingredients for the whole week merge into one shopping list, sorted by supermarket aisle. In Silpo (a Ukrainian supermarket chain) you can build a cart in one click. The recipes are written by her, not generated by AI. Most dishes include "how adults eat it, how kids eat it, what age it's suitable from," marketed as "one dish, two ways to serve it, no cooking twice." If a child has allergies, you can exclude milk, eggs, gluten, or nuts, and any dish containing them disappears from the menu (App Store page, website konstruktormenu.com).

The big update in early November added a lot more: budget-based menus (pick where you shop, whether it's ATB, Silpo, Novus, Auchan, Varus or Metro, how many people you're feeding, and your weekly spend, and it picks a menu that roughly fits); calories and macronutrients for each dish, with side dishes calculated separately; a small video window while you cook; 8 lunchbox plans; and her old PDF guides ("Autumn," "Freezing," "Pickling," "Lunchboxes") moved into the app as books you can read. With the annual plan everything is unlocked, with the monthly plan each extra month unlocks one book. You can also paste an Instagram or TikTok link to import a recipe. Even if the blogger only talks on camera and writes no captions, the app listens to the video and turns it into a recipe.

Pricing: free to download, subscription 199 UAH/month (about 4.8 USD, shared by two people) or 1390 UAH/year (shared by three). The web version is a PWA. Android and desktop pay through the web, bypassing Apple.

### How many people are behind the #19 Top Grossing spot?

| Date | Ukraine Food & Drink charts | Rank | Cumulative ratings |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10-28 | Top Grossing | 54 | 2 |
| 10-30 | Top Grossing | 68 | 2 |
| 10-31 | Top Grossing | 198 | 2 |
| 11-05 | Free | 172 | 2 |
| 11-06 | Top Grossing / Top Free | **19** / 190 | 2 |

(App Store Ukraine chart positions and rating counts, logged daily)

It ranked #19 on Top Grossing but #190 on Top Free, with its rating count stuck between Oct 28 and Nov 6. The reason is that the Ukraine Food & Drink Top Grossing bar is absurdly low. On Nov 5, several apps in the top 30 had only 0 to 7 ratings. One with 4 ratings ranked #8, another with 0 ratings ranked #16. A handful of subscriptions in a day is enough to crack the top 20.

Its ranking jumps up and down in step with the 7-day trial rhythm: the channel started promoting in late October, a week later the trials converted to charges, and the chart position jumped. It reached #11-06 at #19, likely because the late-October trial cohort converted to paid (inferred). Going by the author's own "17 trials a week" claim, paying users are probably in the tens to low hundreds (estimate). Web payments don't go through the App Store books, so actual revenue is likely higher than the chart implies, by an amount we can't see.

### Why she could make this work

**The audience already exists.** The channel has about 33.9k subscribers, single posts get 5000k+ views, and Instagram @mamaiagolodnii has about 8000 followers, all moms who care about what their kids eat. Since 2022 she's been selling PDFs like "a menu builder with 150 recipes," bundled for 299 to 399 UAH. The website says "7000+ moms have bought my books" (author's claim). The app name "Конструктор Меню" is the name of that original PDF.

**The product is an upgrade of an old business.** The website has a comparison table, "PDF or website vs Konstruktor." The channel is blunt about it too: "This is not a PDF menu you'll forget in your Downloads folder a week later." Previously she made money once per book. Now she makes money every month. The weekly new menus are themselves the reason people stay.

**Trust has built up around her.** She can say "I wrote the recipes myself, and I know most of them by heart." She can post a poll asking why people won't try it, 162 people are willing to answer honestly, and then she responds to each one. This kind of operation only works for a creator who is close to her followers. An indie developer copying the features can't copy that layer.

**Its rivals are all tools.** Ukraine has seen a batch of similar apps this year, all built by indie developers: Zastillia (launched in May, 355 ratings, #1 on Ukraine Food & Drink Top Grossing), Dinnerish (best Top Grossing rank #6), lopu (best rank #10), plus smaller ones like Retsepa and FoodsPlans. They all do "organize the recipes you saved on TikTok and auto-build a plan," which requires users to collect recipes first. Konstruktor sells "we decide what you eat today," and a nutritionist mom is doing the deciding. International players like Mealime, Eatr and Samsung Food have no Ukrainian language and no child-serving instructions.

To be clear, differentiation is what persuades and retains her fans. It's what gets the app charted. The deciding factor is the creator's own channel and her repeat buyers.

### How many people know about it

Almost nobody. No media coverage, nobody on X is talking about it, TikTok search doesn't surface it, and revenue hasn't been disclosed. We didn't find this page running ads in the Meta ad library, but not finding them doesn't mean they aren't running (unverified). We also haven't seen copycats.

### If it were you

**The verdict** : you can't replicate this app itself. It runs on the author's 34k followers and 7000 repeat buyers, and you don't have either. The volume is also small, a dozen-odd trials a week. What you can take is the playbook: **creators with a private audience who have sold PDFs or courses, turning a one-time book into a monthly-subscription app** . Either you're that kind of creator, or you partner with one.

**Who it suits** : creators with tens of thousands of targeted followers on Xiaohongshu, WeChat Official Accounts, Telegram or Instagram who have sold ebooks or bootcamps (infant nutrition, fat-loss meal plans, pregnancy diets and fitness programs all work); or developers who can build a PWA with an iOS wrapper and are willing to negotiate a revenue share with a creator.

**Who it doesn't suit** : people with no creator behind them who want to build a "Ukrainian-language weekly menu" and hope for organic store traffic. The market already has Zastillia, Dinnerish and a batch of tools, store volume is small, and without a trusted face you're just the eighth recipe-organizing tool.

**How to do it** :

- Use the creator's existing content: recipes, guides, weekly menus. Not a single line AI-generated, and that's the selling point.

- Ship the web PWA first and add iOS later. Web payments skip Apple's cut.

- Price per household: monthly for two people, annual for three. Spread the "expensive" feeling into "under a coffee per person per month."

- Trial at "1 UAH for 7 days, valid for 24 hours after sign-up." Email a reminder the day before any charge, and allow one-tap cancellation from the profile page.

- Put the creator's old PDFs into the app and unlock one book per extra month of subscription. This is for retention.

- Connect to a local supermarket's cart (in China, the equivalents would be Hema, Dingdong or Meituan Maicai). It's a step tool-type competitors rarely take.

**How to acquire users** : entirely through the creator's channel. Follow her rhythm: post a poll on the pain point ("who decides dinner?"), then a poll on objections ("why won't you try it?"), then one post per objection, each with a trial link and UTM tags so you know which post drives trials. Store ranking is a bonus. In a small country and a small category, a few subscriptions can get you charted, so don't treat it as scale.

**Is there a window?** No hard deadline. This playbook doesn't rely on a platform loophole. But each market has only a few top food creators, and whoever turns their PDFs into an app first claims that spot. In Ukraine, top food creators like Klopotenko already publish a free "menu of the week" on their websites. If he launches an app someday, it gets much harder for the rest.

**What would mean you got it wrong** : if in two or three months the channel still reports "about a dozen moms trying it a week," the app drops out of the top 100 on the chart, and ratings stay in single digits, that would show 199 UAH a month is too expensive for Ukrainian families, retention after trial is weak, and converting the PDFs to a subscription isn't worth it. Conversely, if she starts reporting "hundreds of moms" in the channel, or begins running Meta ads, that means subscriptions retain people, and the playbook is worth copying in other languages.

## Konstruktor Menu for Families (Конструктор Меню): why it made the charts

> App Store id6820632480 · Developer Yuliia Sakhno (only this app) · launched 2026-10-12 · Food & Drink · Ukrainian only · free download, subscription monetized · research date 2026-11-06

### Bottom line

It didn't grow on the store by itself. Ukrainian children's nutrition creator "Мама, я голодний" (Yulia Sakhno) already had a private audience: about 34k Telegram subscribers and about 8k Instagram followers. She also sold PDF recipe books and guides (claiming 7000+ moms bought them). She turned her original "PDF menu builder" into a subscription app plus PWA. After launch, conversion came from UTM-tagged posts in the channel and a "7 days for 1 UAH" trial. The Ukraine Food & Drink Top Grossing bar is extremely low, so a few subscriptions a day can place an app in the top 20–60, which is why the chart makes it look like it "took off." Real scale is probably a few new paying users a day (the author herself said in the channel "yesterday 4 more moms joined").

### 1. What the data actually shows

| Date | Store | Charts | Rank | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-10-28 | ua | Food & Drink Top Grossing | 54 | appstore library, chart_rank |
| 2026-10-29 | ua | Food & Drink Top Grossing | 59 | Same as above |
| 2026-10-30 | ua | Food & Drink Top Grossing | 68 | Same as above |
| 2026-10-31 | ua | Food & Drink Top Grossing | 198 | Same as above |
| 2026-11-04 | ua / bg | Food & Drink Top Free | 153 / 187 | Same as above |
| 2026-11-05 | ua | Food & Drink Top Free | 172 | Same as above |
| 2026-11-06 | ua | Food & Drink Top Grossing / Top Free | **19** / 190 | Same as above |

- The rating count has stayed at 2 (unchanged from 10-28 to 11-06). Average rating 5.0 (iTunes lookup, 2026-11-06). Downloads are tiny.

- **The bar for Ukraine's Food & Drink Top Grossing chart is absurdly low.** On 2026-11-05, several apps in the top 200 had only 0~7 ratings and still ranked #8~#30 (e.g. Herbi with 0 ratings at #16, NeatEat with 4 ratings at #8, Tiny Spoon with 5 ratings at #11; source: appstore library). So ranking #19 only means a few subscriptions or trial conversions that day, not scale.

- The rank swings match the rhythm of the "7-day trial": 10-19 posted the launch Reel, and the October campaign started pushing in late October (campaign=oct26). After the trial week ends and billing kicks in, the grossing chart jumps. 11-06 climbing to #19 most likely reflects the late-October trials converting to paid. This is an inference, not verified.

- Updates to the 1.0.2 version (2026-11-02): new menu push reminders, nutrition facts (КБЖВ), watching YouTube while cooking, a recipe library, lunchbox and budget menus. They're iterating fast.

### 2. Competitors

**Ukrainian local players (all built by indie devs in the same 2026-year cohort, all doing "save recipes + weekly menu + shopping list"):**

- **Zastillia: Recipes & Shopping** (San Byn Nhuien, 2026-05-16): #1,355 on the Ukraine Food & Drink Top Grossing chart, up 7 over the last 48 days. Core feature is importing recipes from TikTok/Instagram, auto-calculating calories, and weekly meal plans. A utility app, no creator content.

- **Dinnerish: Рецепти, меню, КБЖВ** (Yehor Liannyk, 2026-05-19): best rank on Top Grossing was #6,22. Another recipe-collecting tool.

- **lopu: Weekly Meal Plan & Prep** (Dmytro Kobets, 2026-02-09): best rank on Top Grossing was #10,45.

- **Retsepa** (2026-09-16,13 ratings), **Кулінарний нотатничок** (2026-08-06,4 ratings), **FoodsPlans** (2026-03,7 ratings), **SomeYum** (2025-07,13 ratings): all tools for importing recipes and having AI build plans.

- **Cookpad** (big player, already has weekly menus + auto shopping lists); **Klopotenko** (Ukraine's top food blogger) publishes a free "this week's menu" on his site and has written tutorials on using ChatGPT to plan menus (klopotenko.com).

- Government: MOZ and znaimo.gov.ua publish seasonal menus for preschool institutions, for free.

**Baby food / baby-led weaning (BLW) (English-language, also on the Ukraine chart):** Tiny Spoon (best rank #11), BabyPlate (#12), Starting solids (#8), Little Foodie, BLW Meals; the international leader is Solid Starts (not verified in this library).

**Weekly meal planning globally:** Mealime, Plan to Eat, Samsung Food, MealPrepPro, Eatr (#2,3224 top grossing in Ukraine by rating). None of them have Ukrainian, and none offer "one dish, two serving styles."

**How it differs from these:**

1. The recipes are written by a licensed nutritionist and mother, not generated by AI, and users don't have to import their own. Every dish says how to serve it for adults vs. kids and from what age it's suitable (the /start page on the website).

2. The menus come ready-made: open the app and you have a full week, no need to build up a recipe collection first. The local competitors all require users to save recipes into them first.

3. Localization is detailed: one tap generates a cart for the Silpo supermarket, shopping lists are sorted by store aisle, allergen filters can be customized, barcode scanning reads ingredients, and the PWA opens the list even during power or internet outages.

4. Pricing is per household: 199 UAH/month for two adults, or 1390 UAH/year for a family of three (about 39 UAH per person per month).

### 3. Where users came from (growth tactics)

| Channel | Evidence | Confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| The author's own Telegram channel "Мама, я Голодний" | t.me/mamaiagolodniy has about 33,928 subscribers (2026-11-06 page); single posts get about 5.3K views. Links in posts carry `utm_source=telegram&utm_campaign=oct26 / kapsula`, with copy like "7 days for 1 UAH" and "yesterday 4 more moms joined." She also ran a poll asking "what stops you from trying it?" with 162 responses. | Yes |
| Instagram @mamaiagolodnii | About 8,016 followers. 10-19 posted a launch Reel, "Що приготувати? Знову…", pointing viewers to the profile link. The bio reads "Menu for the week for the whole family 1 UAH." | Yes |
| Migrating existing customers (buyers of the PDF book / guides) | happyhomely.com.ua sells two PDF books, bundled for 299~399 UAH, with a "one weekly menu" bonus and a closed TG channel (the landing page says 39000+). The app's website says "7000+ moms have bought her books." | Yes (the numbers are the author's own claims). |
| Web PWA + 1 UAH trial | konstruktormenu.com/start?trial=1; Android and desktop go through the web only. | Yes |
| SEO content | konstruktormenu.com/recepty/ hosts the author's articles (e.g. "What to do when kids won't eat vegetables"); the page has more than 13 links. | Yes (effect not verified). |
| Paid ads | The old book landing pages have ad-landing-style paths (/fgsdasfg, /ofers), but our Meta ad library doesn't track this homepage. Not finding it there doesn't mean they didn't run ads. | Not verified |
| TikTok / X / media | TikHub search for "конструктор меню" found nothing; x-radar has 0 hits; Brave search turns up no media coverage. | Nothing found |

**Where the money comes from:** Owned audience traffic is free. The paywall is the subscription inside the web and app. The conversion entry point is the 1 UAH trial, followed by 199 UAH/month or 1390 UAH/year. Web payments skip Apple, so the App Store chart only reflects the in-app purchase portion. Real revenue may be higher than the chart suggests, but this is unverified.

### 4. Why it took off

1. **Owned audience is ready-made, so cold start costs nothing.** 34K TG subscribers plus 8K IG followers, all in the precise "kids eating" niche, and many already bought her PDFs. At the pace of "yesterday 4 more moms joined," that's enough to climb the grossing chart in a small-market subcategory.

2. **The product is an upgrade of an old business.** Since 2022 she's been selling PDFs like "Меню-конструктор на 150 рецептів" (titles of old IG Reels). The app replaces "flip through a PDF + hand-copy a list" with auto-generated menus and shopping lists. The website even has a comparison table, "PDF or website vs. Конструктор," aimed at upgrading past buyers.

3. **One-time sales become monthly subscriptions.** The books sell for 299 UAH once; the 199 UAH/month subscription is recurring revenue. Weekly menu pushes are themselves a retention hook.

4. **The bar for a small-market subcategory grossing chart is low.** A handful of subscriptions can land a top-20 spot, so the signal gets amplified and shouldn't be read as large-scale growth.

5. **Using customer objections as content.** She ran a "what stops you from trying it?" poll, then wrote copy aimed at the top answer ("another app I'll abandon in a week"). Only a creator with a close relationship to her followers can run this kind of operation.

### 5. Differentiation, and why it actually took off

The differentiation is "a weekly family menu, ready-made and written by a real nutritionist, with a kid-friendly serving for each dish," plus Ukrainian localization (Silpo, Ukrainian language, works offline during outages). Competitors Zastillia, Dinnerish, lopu and Retsepa are all "organize the recipes you saved from TikTok" tools; this one sells content and decisions: it decides what to eat for you. But this differentiation **mainly serves to retain and convince existing followers. It isn't what drives acquisition.** The decisive reason it's taking off is the author's owned audience and past buyers. The differentiation itself also comes from the author's identity (she wrote the content, she built the trust), and rivals can't copy that layer by copying features.

### 6. How many people know, and whether anyone is copying

- Awareness: **Few people know about it yet.** No media coverage, nothing on X, nothing on TikTok, and no public revenue figures. It spreads only within the author's own follower circles.

- Copycats: none found. The Ukrainian peers (Zastillia etc.) launched earlier and take a different approach (utility tools).

### 7. What others can borrow

- The path "knowledge-paid creator: PDF / e-book → subscription app": the content already exists, the channels already exist (private traffic on TG / IG / WeChat / Xiaohongshu), and you add a PWA built by outsourcing or AI, plus an iOS wrapper.

- Ship the web PWA first and list on iOS later. Web payments avoid Apple's cut, and a 1-unit trial lowers the barrier.

- Niche grossing charts in small-language markets are easy to climb with this playbook. Fine to use as a signal, but don't mistake rank for scale.

- The domestic equivalent: parenting, fat-loss and pregnancy-nutrition bloggers turn "a weekly menu" into a subscription mini-program or app, connected to Hema / Dingdong grocery carts. Same model.

### 8. Still unclear

- Actual paying users and revenue: how much comes from the web vs. iOS.

- Whether they run Meta ads (this homepage isn't on our ad-library tracking list).

- The 7000+ book buyers and 39000+ TG channel figures are the author's own claims. The public TG channel measures about 33.9K.

- Whether the app is built by the author or outsourced. The same name on LinkedIn belongs to a business analyst, and I'm not sure they're the same person.

- Retention: 199 UAH/month isn't cheap in Ukraine, and how many users stay after the trial converts isn't visible.
