# AI-made image, chanted audio, 4.94M views: how a solo developer's Arabic dating app got its first users

**What it is** : an Arabic-only, Islamic-focused serious dating app. Photos are blurred by default, and chats automatically block phone numbers and links. Membership is SAR 99.99 a month.

**Why it took off** : at the end of September its TikTok account began posting "one AI image + religious chanting + a call for marriage". The comments became a wall of prayers, and one post peaked at 4.94M views. Traffic came first, then the app; the Android version caught most of the Arab market.

**B** **How you could follow it** : use another Muslim language you know (Indonesian, Malay, Turkish, Urdu, etc.) and copy this near-zero-cost content playbook. Build traffic first, then launch the app, and make blocking contact info a paid membership feature.

Grade B: the acquisition playbook is clear, costs almost nothing, and few people have noticed it yet, so it can be copied in another language. But dating is a two-sided market: cold start and moderation are hard for one person to handle, and its own conversion is low and its revenue is not yet visible. Few people know about it yet

"Sitr" (ستر, Islamic dating) went live on iOS in Oct 12 and had only 6 ratings by Nov 4, so it looked like almost no one was using it. But its TikTok account gathered over 15M views in a month and a bit, and the Android version got about 12 installs in 6,000 days, even reaching #4 on Algeria's Lifestyle Top Grossing chart. One person built it. Its playbook costs almost nothing and can be copied in another language. The hard part is what comes after the traffic: the cold start and moderation that a dating app requires.

### A post where the comments became a wall of prayers

On Oct 1, 2026, the TikTok account @sitrislamic posted an image: a beige living room, a man in a white robe on the left and a woman in a dark green headscarf on the right, standing a few meters apart, both smiling slightly. Across the middle, large Arabic text: "تبحث عن شريك حياة مناسب؟" (Looking for the right life partner?), with a button below: "加入 ستر 平台" (Join the Sitr platform). The soundtrack is a ready-made Islamic recitation, "واسع الرحمة" (Vast in mercy), and the caption is just three words: "طريقك للزواج" (Your path to marriage). It was obviously AI-generated.

By Nov 6 this post had 4.94M views, 628 comments, and 935 shares (TikTok). Almost no one in the comments asked about the product; it was all prayers: "Oh Lord, grant me a kind, gentle husband who won't make me suffer, help me obey you, and let us enter paradise together" and "May God grant me a good husband." Some tagged the Algerian flag, and one mother prayed on behalf of her daughter. A few comments among them were business-related: "Why isn't the price written on the website?" and "We couldn't register," plus one asking, "Am I the only one who finds this kind of website embarrassing?"

The same day it also posted two similar images, one with 2.72M and one with 430k views. The App wasn't on the store yet.

### What it is

A serious Arabic-only dating App. The store page's selling points: photos are blurred by default and only clear when both sides agree; phone numbers and links typed into chat are automatically blocked, "keep the conversation inside ستر until you're comfortable"; matching is based on "values questions," with filters by country and marriage type; plus an anonymous Q&A community.

The App is free to download and the money comes from memberships and visibility (App Store Saudi store, 11-06): Premium at SAR 99.99 a month (about $27), profile boosts SAR 39.99 for 7 days and SAR 129.99 for 30 days, plus a SAR 399.99 profile frame. Memberships sell "unlimited new conversations" and "see who visited you," plus sharing your number with people you choose. The contact info it blocks earlier becomes the paid feature here.

The developer is ABDELHAK BEJAOUI, who has only this one App. Three weeks, 11 versions, with the latest adding "safety reminders when starting a new conversation" and comments on marriage posts. His Instagram also has a post selling "e-commerce websites from $300," so he's probably a freelance developer, and this is his own project (inferred).

### Why now: change the content first, then launch the App

The timeline is clear:

| Timeline | What happened |
|---|---|
| 2026-04-20 | Register sitrislamic.com and build the web version first |
| 04-23 to 05-01 | TikTok posts of wedding dresses and the tag "Riyadh," each getting a few hundred to a few thousand views |
| The following nearly five months | Inactive |
| 09-26 | Restarted with "one image + religious recitation + marriage," posting 7 times a day, one hitting 1.56M views |
| 10-01 | Three images: 4.94M, 2.72M, 430k |
| 10-12 | Launched on iOS and posted the App Store link on TikTok the same day |
| 10-14 to 10-17 | Posted "the App is now on the Apple Store" in a row, with single posts getting 220k to 1.43M |
| 10-25 | Launched on Android, reaching 5,987 installs by 11-06 (Google Play) |

Same account, same product: the spring content got a few hundred views, the autumn content with new music and art style got over a million. Religious recitation paired with the topic "ask for a good marriage" hits the nerve that makes the most people stop and write a prayer in the comments; with more comments, the platform keeps pushing it. The whole account has 6,299 followers and 43 works, and none of the posts are ads (TikTok, 11-06).

Two other channels support it: Instagram and Facebook mirror the same content; the official website blog published 60 articles around Oct 4, all titled with long-tail search terms like "how to pray before marriage," "60 questions to ask before engagement," and "romance scams on dating sites." They look batch-generated (inferred), and it's not yet clear how much traffic they bring.

### 15M views, how many installs

Conversion is very low. 1,500 million-plus views brought 4 iOS ratings and about 6,000 Android installs. This kind of content draws a broad audience with feelings about religious topics, and only a small share are ready to sign up for a dating App right away.

But it found the right spot in the Arab market: Android is the bulk. The Android version hit the charts in 6 countries within a week, with its best Saudi Dating Top Free rank at #82 (Google Play, 11-06).

### Charting in Top Grossing doesn't tell you how much it earns

On the App Store it surged to #4 on Algeria's Lifestyle Top Grossing in Nov 2, then dropped every day: 11-03 #11,11-04 #18,11-06 #31. Its best Kuwait Top Grossing rank was #45, and Saudi sat between 87 and 152.

The bar in these stores is absurdly low. On the same day, another dating App in the Algerian store with only 2 ratings, Masha, ranked #14 in Top Grossing. A $27 monthly membership alone could push it up there (inferred). The only thing you can read is that someone paid, and that its membership price is high among Gulf dating Apps. Revenue scale can't be calculated from the outside.

### Who it's competing with

Arab Muslim marriage apps are an old category, and there are a lot of players.

| Product | Scale (App Store, 11-06) | How it differs from Sitr |
|---|---|---|
| AlKhattaba | Launched 2014 years ago, 51,202 ratings in the Saudi store, #2 in Lifestyle Top Grossing | Established leader, free for women |
| Muzz (UK) | 21,795 ratings in the Egyptian store, #3 in Algerian Top Grossing | The world's largest Muslim dating App, with blurred photos and guardian features, just not on by default |
| فضفض(Wefaaq) | Launched 2026-04, 5,275 ratings in the Saudi store, #5 Top Grossing | The fastest riser this year, leaning toward social chat |
| Soudfa / Habii | #5 Top Grossing in Algeria | A Danish company's matrix, mixing social and dating |
| مِلكة Melkah | TikTok creator collaboration videos with 200k to 260k views | Closest positioning, but relies on paying creators |
| Masha, Ikhtiar, Abeer, and others | Each with 0 to 35 ratings | A batch of indie-developer Apps that appeared this year, about the same scale as Sitr, with no TikTok traffic |

The word "ستر" itself means "to cover, to protect one's reputation," a common term in this category. Saudi str-sa.com and the web version seter.cc use this name too, and they may be earlier.

So what Sitr wins with isn't the product. Muzz has the privacy features too; Sitr just made them default and framed them in religious terms. What sets it apart from the same batch of indie developers is that TikTok account, where one image can get a million views. Few people have noticed this yet: no media has written about it, nobody on X has mentioned it, and there are no public revenue figures.

### If it were you

**Verdict** : Worth studying, worth testing, but don't expect it to be a business that's already been validated. What you can really take away is the acquisition move: use existing religious music with an AI-generated image to get free distribution in a market with strong faith, build traffic first, then launch the App. Dating as a category is a two-sided market, and the hard part is everything after the traffic arrives.

**Who it suits** : people whose native language is spoken by a large Muslim population that Arabic-language Apps don't serve, such as Indonesian, Malay, Turkish, Urdu, Bengali, or French-speaking North African audiences (inferred; I haven't checked how crowded these markets are). Ideally you understand the local religious expression yourself and know which lines get people writing prayers in the comments and which draw backlash.

**Who it doesn't suit** : anyone aiming to compete in Arabic as the main market, where the leaders are AlKhattaba and Muzz, with a batch of similar Apps this year; anyone without the capacity to moderate, since fake profiles, scams, and harassment in dating Apps will flood you with one-star reviews if one person can't keep up; and anyone expecting this single App to make money quickly, since Sitr's own revenue still isn't visible.

**How to build it** : launch web or Android first, iOS second. Copy its three core features: photos blurred by default and visible only when both sides agree; numbers and links automatically blocked in chat; matching by country, marriage type, and values questions. Memberships should sell "start more conversations" and "share your contact with chosen people," turning users' safety concerns into paid features. State prices clearly on the website, since people are already asking in its comments.

**How to get users** : run one account and post a few times a day: "one image + a popular recitation + a question about marriage," with men and women shown standing separately and dressed modestly. Watch which posts turn the comments into a prayer wall and post more in that direction. Before traffic builds, don't rush the App; put the sign-up page on your homepage first. Then batch-write a set of Q&A articles like "how to pray before marriage" and "what to ask before engagement" to capture search traffic.

**When to do it** : the sooner the better. This kind of content costs almost nothing and anyone can copy it; once three to five accounts in one language are posting the same images, distribution gets diluted.

**What would mean you're wrong** : (1) by January 2027, Sitr's Android installs are still under 10,000 and its App Store rating is still single digits, showing this religious-content traffic doesn't keep users; (2) if later posts from @sitrislamic fall back to tens of thousands of views, the late-September wave was a platform fluke, not a repeatable method; (3) conversely, if its Algerian and Kuwaiti Top Grossing ranks hold in the top 30 for a full month, people are paying steadily and the business is more solid than it looks.

## ستر للزواج الإسلامي (Sitr, iOS 6821280148) research report

> In one line: an Arabic-language Islamic marriage app built by one person (developer ABDELHAK BEJAOUI, who has only this app). Its selling point is "photos blurred by default, visible only with mutual consent, and phone numbers and links in chat auto-blocked." Users come almost entirely from TikTok: the same account posts photo carousels set to religious chant music, and a few hit millions of views. The iOS rating count is only 4 and looks cold, but the Android version launched 10-25 and got about 6,000 installs in its first week. Lifestyle Top Grossing charts in Arab countries have a low bar, so a handful of subscriptions is enough to put it on the chart. It isn't "breaking out" yet. It's at the stage where content traffic exists and money is just starting to come in, and almost nobody is paying attention.

### 1. How to read the data (first, some corrections)

- **iOS ratings are few** : 4 total (11-06), +1 over the last 7 days; the sa store on Apple lookup has just 1 (appstore library app_day, 10-28 to 11-06). Going by ratings alone will understate its scale.

- **Android is where the volume is** : com.sitrislamic.app launched 10-25, 11-06 installs 5,987 (5,000+ tier), +5,974 over 7 days; best rank was Top Free #82 in Saudi Dating, charted in 6 countries; in-app purchases $9.99–$99.99 (googleplay library app_profile, 2026-11-06). The website download page originally said "Coming soon to Google Play"; it now links to the Play listing (sitrislamic.com/app).

- **Top Grossing ranks** (appstore library app_day, Lifestyle category):
    - Algeria (dz): 10-28 to 11-01 on Top Free #31–#34; **11-02 climbed to Top Grossing #4** , then #11-03, #11,11-04, #18,11-05, #23,11-06, #31 and falling steadily. It looks more like a couple of subscriptions pushed it up than sustained revenue.
    - Kuwait Top Grossing 45–111, Saudi Top Grossing 87–152, UAE Top Grossing 92–192; Egypt Top Free 20–65, Jordan Top Free 27–71.
    - **Bar comparison** : on the same day, in the dz Lifestyle Top Grossing chart, Masha: Muslim Marriage ranked #14 with only 2 ratings, and Zefaaf ranked #139 with 51 ratings (appstore library app_profile, 11-06). The Lifestyle Top Grossing charts in these stores have a very low bar. "Charted" only means someone paid, not how much revenue there is.

- **Pricing** (App Store sa page): ستر المميز (premium membership) SAR 99.99/month (about $27); featured placement for 7 days at SAR 39.99, 14 days at 79.99, 30 days at 129.99; avatar frame SAR 399.99. High for a Gulf dating app, so ARPU per paying user is solid.

- **Shipping fast** : 10-12 launched, and by 11-04 it was on 1.0.11, 11 versions in three weeks; the latest release added "safety reminders when starting a new chat," "can comment on community marriage posts," and "profile completeness hints" (iTunes lookup).

### 2. Competitors

Arab Muslim marriage apps are an old category, and it's crowded. The data below comes from appstore library app_profile, 2026-11-06; numbers are the best Lifestyle chart rank / ratings count in that store:

| Product | Launched | Scale | How it differs from Sitr |
|---|---|---|---|
| AlKhattaba(et3arraf) | 2014 | Saudi Lifestyle Top Grossing #2, 51,202 ratings in sa; kw #2, ae #6 | Long-established leader, free for women; no default-blurred photos |
| Muzz (MUZZ LTD, UK) | 2015 | dz Top Grossing #3, sa #7, eg Top Free #2, 21,795 ratings in eg | The world's largest Muslim marriage app, with selfie verification, photo blurring, and guardian (wali) features. Muzz covers most of Sitr's privacy selling points; Sitr just makes them the default. |
| فضفض(Wefaaq Co) | 2026-04 | Top Grossing #5,5,275, 7-day +199 | Newer this year, more dating-chat than serious marriage, fastest growing |
| Soudfa / Habii(Amsiq A/S) | 2015 / 2023 | sa Top Grossing #10, dz #5 | Matrix strategy from a Danish company, dating and marriage mixed together |
| Mawada | 2016 | sa store 10,088 ratings, Top Grossing #40 | Long-running, many Gulf users |
| Salams(Match Group) | 2015 | #100 in sa Top Grossing | Product acquired by a big company, weak in Arab markets |
| Muslima(Cupid Media) | 2021 | Top Grossing 25–84 across stores | Website matrix that moved into apps |
| نصفك Nasfak | 2023 | sa store 1,803 ratings | Saudi local company |
| مِلكة Melkah | Not verified | TikTok creator partnerships (@laila.kaheel 260k views, @melkah_app 200k) | Saudi positioning of "only for people serious about marriage" is closest to Sitr; relies on creators for promotion |
| Saudi Naseeb / Masha / Ikhtiar / Abeer / Wed / سندريلا | 2025-06 to 2026-09 | Each has 0–35 ratings, Top Grossing #14–#102 | A batch of small indie-dev marriage apps that appeared in 2026, similar in scale to Sitr |
| Same-name ستر (str-sa.com, Saudi, Mosaad aljohani) | Recall card says 2025-04, unverified | Unknown | Positioned as a "marriage service platform, not a dating app," doing family matchmaking and consulting |
| Same-name منصة ستر (seter.cc) | Unverified (page last updated 2026-11-01) | Unknown | Web version, leads with AI matching, supports regular and misyar marriages |

Bottom line: many products do the same thing. The leaders are AlKhattaba and Muzz, and a new batch of similar small apps launched this year. "ستر" (sitr, meaning roughly "to shield, protect one's reputation") is used by at least three companies, so it's a common term in this category. Calling it a name grab would be unfair; it's more a coincidence.

### 3. Where users come from

**1) TikTok self-run account: confirmed, and it's the main channel.** @sitrislamic (display name "تطبيق ستر للزواج", 6,299 followers, 24,757,43 likes on posts, profile link sitrislamic.com/app, TikHub 11-06):

- 2026-04-23 to 05-01 was the first phase: photo posts tagged with wedding dresses and "Riyadh/Saudi," each getting a few hundred to a few thousand views, with one hitting 63k. Back then it was still a web platform ("link in the first comment," "sign up to see more"). The domain sitrislamic.com was registered 2026-04-20 (RDAP).

- It went quiet for almost five months. **9-26 restart** , switching to religious chant / praise-song music with marriage themes: 9-26 posted 7 videos in one day, one reaching 1.56M views; 9-28 posted 5 photo posts, top at 280k; **10-01 three photo posts: 4.94M, 2.72M, 430k** (the 4.94M one had 628 comments and 935 shares); on 10-12, the day the app went live, it posted with the App Store link; 10-14 and 10-17 posted 5 "App Store is live" posts in a row, reaching 220k–1.43M views.

- The formula is fixed: photo carousels plus ready-made Islamic chant tracks (names like "واسع الرحمة", "سبحانك ربي", "نور الهدى"), with captions like "your marriage journey / the app is live." Production costs are almost zero, and the platform pushes religious emotional content without any paid promotion.

- **"Big reach, low conversion"** : total views top 15M, yet iOS has only 4 ratings and Android about 6,000 installs. Religious chant content mostly draws people with general religious interest, and few of them convert.

- The account is registered in SA.

**2) Instagram / Facebook sync: confirmed.** Instagram @sitrislamic and the Facebook page "منصة ستر للزواج الاسلامي" both carry the signup link (Jina search). One 10-14 Instagram Reel caption is selling "e-commerce websites from $300," suggesting this account also takes outsourced dev work. The inference is that the developer does outsourcing and the marriage app is his own project (unverified).

**3) SEO content site: confirmed, just getting started.** sitrislamic.com/blog has 60 articles in 6 categories, published mostly in 2026-10-04 (likely batch-generated), with titles targeting long-tail searches: "how to perform istikhara before marriage," "60 questions to ask before getting engaged," "romance scams on marriage sites." Each post has a summary up top and an FAQ at the end, the typical format for AI search and Google featured snippets. It's not clear yet how much traffic this brings.

**4) Store search / related recommendations: likely.** In the App Store "Customers also bought" section it sits next to سندريلا للزواج الجاد, Tayseer, Zefaaf, Naseeb, منصة ميثاق, HUBB, and KoChat (Jina search of apps.apple.com/ch pages), so it has already entered the recommendation circle of similar apps.

**5) Paid ads: not found.** X corpus has no results for "sitrislamic" (x-radar, 60 days). The metaads and tiktokads libraries only track products on their watchlists, so "not found" doesn't mean no spend. The TikTok posts are not ad-flagged (is_ads=false).

**6) Review prompts / chart climbing: no evidence. Ratings were already few.**

### 4. Why it's growing (at its current scale)

1. **Zero-cost religious emotional content got picked up by the platform's feed** : after switching to chanted-audio image posts, 9-26 got 10-01 single posts with 4.94M views, while the same account's spring posts only pulled a few hundred views (TikHub).

2. **Traffic first, app later** : 10-01 blew up before the app existed; 10-12 went live the same day and the link was attached right away; 10-25 on Android, ~6,000 installs in one week (googleplay library). Android is the bulk of the Arab market, and this step actually caught the traffic.

3. **High-priced subscription + low-bar Top Grossing** : a SAR 99.99/month membership, and the dz and kw store charts have very low Top Grossing thresholds, so a handful of subscriptions put it at #4 in the dz store and #45 in kw (appstore library).

4. **Fast iteration** : 11 versions in three weeks, adding community, safety reminders, and profile-completeness prompts (iTunes lookup). One person doing full stack.

### 5. Differentiation

- **Its claimed differentiation** : photos blurred by default and visible only when both sides agree; chat auto-blocks phone numbers, social handles and links; a warning pops up when money transfers are mentioned; users show up with a membership number instead of their name; "two-way match score" plus "values questions"; and an anonymous Q&A community (sitrislamic.com).

- **Against competitors** : Muzz has long had photo blurring, chat monitoring, and guardian features, and AlKhattaba also pitches "serious marriage." Sitr's difference is making privacy the **default** , writing "no moving people off-platform" into the mechanics, and framing everything entirely in Arabic religious language (the name "ستر" itself means "concealment/protection"). That matches the worries of women users in the Gulf and North Africa about photos leaking and being scammed.

- **Is it why traffic came?** Mostly no. Traffic came from platform distribution of TikTok religious-music content, which barely mentioned features. The differentiation handles "will women stay once they arrive, and will men pay"; since off-platform contact is restricted, continuing a conversation means staying in the app, so "share your number with someone you choose" becomes the paid feature. So it's a monetization design, not an acquisition design.

### 6. How many people have seen it

- No media coverage, nobody on X mentions it, no public revenue, and no TrustMRR page (Jina / x-radar search).

- Copycats: none found that are explicitly copying it. The same-named str-sa.com and seter.cc are name collisions, and may be older. TikTok accounts using religious content to acquire users for dating apps were already plentiful (Panda Hii, mizwaj, Melkah, etc.; TikHub search for "تطبيق زواج").

- Verdict: **few people know about it yet** .

### 7. What others can borrow

- In markets with strong religious/cultural sentiment, using "ready-made religious music + static image carousels" as low-cost content can earn free platform distribution; build traffic first, then ship the app.

- Make "safety / privacy" a default mechanism (contact-info blocking), so users who want to keep talking have to pay (the membership includes "share number"), turning trust concerns into a paid feature.

- Don't just focus on Saudi Arabia. Stores with low Top Grossing bars (dz, kw) can make a new app look like it's earning quickly.

- Batch-write 60 long-tail religious dating Q&A articles for SEO / AI search.

### 8. Still unclear

- Real revenue: the Top Grossing rank bar is too low to convert into revenue; #4 in dz likely means just one or two subscriptions.

- Developer's nationality: a recall card says a full-stack engineer based in the Saudi region, with a name that looks North African (Tunisian / Algerian), unverified.
