# A futures trader made stars fall behind the candlesticks: ChartSkins and the small business of skinning pro trading tools

**What it is** A browser extension, desktop app, and iOS Safari extension that puts a starfield, aurora, or your own video behind TradingView's candlesticks. Skins are free; Pro sells custom assets, community skins, and watermark removal.

**Why it took off** US futures traders post chart screen recordings to TikTok every day, and the chart is the on-camera visual. The founder is a trader creator in that scene himself. A 90k-view video plus "free month of Pro for posting a video + 10% commission" got users to spread it for them.

**C** **How you could follow** Don't compete with it on TradingView. Take the playbook to other interfaces and circles that get watched constantly and get filmed for short video: crypto exchange web charts, Chinese-language trading communities, coding streams, game streams. The condition is that you have your own account in that circle, and you copy the post-for-membership-and-affiliate-link model.

Grade C: the tech was copied within a month, and three copycats already sit in the TradingView slot. It wins on the founder's own trading account, which followers can't copy. Revenue isn't proven, the circle is narrow, and one TradingView change could break it. The model is worth learning, but copying it directly isn't worth it. Whispers in small circles

ChartSkins swaps animated backgrounds into TradingView charts: starfields, auroras, rainy nights, or your own video, behind the candlesticks. Its maker is a Nasdaq futures day trader with 30k TikTok followers, and one demo video got 90k views, which claimed the term "chart skins" within a week. The iOS version launched on Oct 29 as a supplementary channel. The real battlefield is the Chrome extension and TradingView desktop. Three copycats have already shown up in a month. Below: how it got started, where the money comes from, and whether you can still follow.

### A 90k-view monitoring video

On Oct 2026 in 9, TikTok account @musiitrades posted a video captioned just "Chartskins.com on top", tagged #tradingview #indicator #livewallpaper #nq. The screen looked like his usual trading recording, except a moving starfield now sat behind the candlesticks. The video got 90,915 views and 7,475 likes (TikTok, 11-06).

The account belongs to Mustafa Salman, a Floridian (the Chrome Web Store developer address is in Pembroke Pines). He normally posts his Nasdaq futures (NQ) day-trading P&L on TikTok, with the bio "Live Everyday" and 32k followers. The top pinned June trading video got 11k views. The starfield video got eight times that.

Two days earlier, on Oct 7, he posted a teaser: "Everyone who downloads today and tomorrow gets it free!! Website in bio", 35k views. The same day, the product's own @chartskins account posted a matching "limited-time free" video, 107k views. The surge was concentrated in the week of Oct 7 to 11. After late October, new videos from both accounts fell back to a few hundred views (TikTok, 11-06).

### What it is

TradingView is the chart site most retail traders use. Its appearance settings only allow a solid color or a two-color gradient for the background, with no images and certainly no video. ChartSkins fills that gap: it makes TradingView's background transparent, puts the animation underneath, and keeps the candlesticks, indicators, and drawings on top.

- **Where it works** : Chrome, Brave, Edge, Arc, and Opera extensions; TradingView desktop (Mac / Windows, with a menu bar helper); Safari on iPhone, iPad, and Mac (this iOS app; TradingView's own mobile app can't run extensions). Embedded TradingView charts on prop-firm sites like TopstepX also work (beta). One email account works everywhere, no password needed.

- **Stays out of the way** : sliders for dimming, blur, and opacity; Alt+Shift+B toggles it on and off; background tabs pause automatically; turning it off restores the original background. The site says: "Lively when you're flat, calm when you're in a trade."

- **Game-style packaging** : skins come in five rarity tiers, new ones every month (rarity only signals how much visual detail a skin has, nothing is locked). There's also a "Workshop" where users upload their own skins (published after manual review). The site's pricing section is headlined "Cheaper than one bad trade".

**How it charges** : from Nov 2, all 45 built-in skins are free (iOS release notes, website, 11-06). Pro sells just three things: other people's skins from the Workshop, your own videos and images, and removing the small watermark on charts. The web version sells through Whop at $6/month (struck through at $8.57), with annual and lifetime options. One Pro license covers 15 devices, no refunds. iOS uses Apple in-app purchase.

### Why traders, and why now

**The demand was bred in TikTok's trading scene.** A large group of young Americans day-trade futures and record their TradingView screens every day for TikTok: entries, take-profits, P&L screenshots. The chart is their on-camera visual. Before ChartSkins, just changing candle colors had already drawn big views. @nq.will's "Chart colours" video got 9k views on Sep 172 (TikTok). ChartSkins pushed it a step further: anyone can change colors, but a starfield or anime behind the candles is instantly different.

It isn't selling trading performance. It sells "my monitoring screen looks good." A review on the Whop store says it bluntly: will it make you money? No, but the chart has more personality. The last FAQ item on the site admits it too: "This is not investment advice. It's a skin."

**The maker is inside the scene.** He has his own 30k-follower trading account, a Discord trading community, and a Whop store (Whop is the default payment tool for courses and communities in this scene). Cold start cost nothing, and the first video reached the most relevant people.

### Where users come from

1. **The founder's own trading account** : the 90k-view video above. After that he posted a monitoring video with chartskins.com every day or two, getting a few hundred to over a thousand views.

2. **Brand account + limited-time free** : @chartskins with 2,651 followers and 31 posts. The Oct 7 video got 107k views, and an Oct 9 "So ez to use" video got 46k views (TikTok, 11-06).

3. **Post a video for membership, plus 10% commission** : this is the move worth copying. The site states it plainly: post a video using ChartSkins charts anywhere public on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, or X, submit the link, and get a free month of Pro. Anyone who wants to keep earning can grab an affiliate link directly, no application, and earn 10% per sale. Searching "chartskins" on TikTok turns up a stream of small trading accounts posting: some tutorials (7,838 views), some promoting "Code: DuallyTradez 10% OFF #AD", all in the hundreds to thousands of views. The product is visual by nature, so every user's monitoring video carries it. This move effectively turns users into the distribution channel.

4. **YouTube** : a small creator posted "How to Make TradingView Look INSANE for FREE" on Oct 29, 301 views, with both a prop-firm promo link and a ChartSkins affiliate link in the description.

5. **The name is the category** : TikTok already has hashtag pages for "chart skins tradingview" and "tradingview charts wallpaper", filled with its content.

6. No paid ads, X posts, Reddit threads, or press coverage turned up.

### How much it actually makes

Not visible from outside.

- **iOS is small** : a week after launch, it only showed up in the finance Top Grossing charts of Oman (peak #14) and Colombia (peak #35), and in the Jamaica finance Top Free chart (peak #97). It never charted in major stores like the US. The US page has 2 ratings (App Store, 11-01 to 11-06). Finance Top Grossing in small stores is an easy bar to clear, a handful of subscriptions can get you there. This only shows some people paid on iOS (inferred).

- **Whop numbers can't be taken at face value** : the store page shows 536 members, 28 reviews, and a 5.0 rating, but this Whop store is shared with his trading community, and several reviews predate ChartSkins' launch. Member and review counts are mixed with community members.

- **The Chrome Web Store page doesn't show user counts** (11-06). It only shows 1.2.2 versions, with the latest update on Nov 5.

- The founder hasn't shared any revenue, and no major account on media or X has written about it.

At $6/month in a narrow niche, this is most likely a product making a few thousand dollars a month, not tens of thousands (estimate, low confidence).

### Who it's competing with

| Competitors | Launched | How it differs from ChartSkins |
|---|---|---|
| TradingView's built-in chart appearance settings | Always present | Only solid colors or gradients. ChartSkins fills exactly this gap |
| ChartMods(chartmods.com) | October, mid | An obvious cheap copy of ChartSkins: 11 skins free with no account, $2.99/month or $9.99 one-time, same Alt+Shift+B shortcut. Not on the Chrome Web Store, so you load it in developer mode. 386 followers on TikTok |
| ChartFits(chartfits.trade) | Early November | Copy, supported platforms, and the 'Turn on here' flow are nearly identical. 26 followers on TikTok |
| TradeCut's Chart skins | 11-03 | A trading-recording and clipping tool that gives away 22 animated skins as a growth hook. Not sold separately |
| Pine scripts on TradingView (Animated Watermark, etc.) | Unknown | Can only draw animated text watermarks, not backgrounds |

ChartMods' extension package is just 47KB. Technically you could copy it in a month. What ChartSkins can still defend is being first, having a name that is the category itself, and having its founder and accounts inside this community.

### If it were you

**Bottom line** : don't go head-to-head with it on TradingView. This slot already has three players within a month, and ChartSkins wins on the founder's own trading account, which you can't copy. What's worth learning is the model: put skins on a professional tool that people stare at for hours a day and that gets filmed for short videos.

**Good fit for** : someone already in a 'record your screen and post videos' community, with an account that reaches insiders, who can write a browser extension or a small desktop app.

**Not a fit for** : people with no distribution who expect store search to bring traffic, or anyone aiming for a big business. This is a small-money business in a narrow niche.

**How to build it** : find an interface that meets all three conditions. Users stare at it for hours a day, the original vendor doesn't offer personalization, and users will film it for videos. Candidates: web charts on other trading platforms (crypto exchange web K-lines, MT4/MT5 web versions); Chinese-language trading recordings (on Douyin and Bilibili, the people who post live trading often don't use TradingView); the editors and terminals programmers stream; the live feeds of game streamers and esports players. Copy ChartSkins' features: sits behind content without blocking it, one-click toggle, dim/blur, reverts when turned off. Give skins away free to drive installs, and charge only for bringing your own media, removing the watermark, and community skins.

**How to get users** : film the first video yourself and post it in that community. Then copy the 'post a video, get a free month of membership, plus an affiliate link open to everyone at 10%' setup, so every user helps film a video for you. Name the product with the category term so it rides platform topic pages and search.

**Timing** : the window for TradingView is already closing. For anyone moving to another platform or language community, whoever posts the first hit in that community owns the keyword. The earlier the better.

**Signs you've misread it** : the original vendor adds a background image feature or changes its page structure and breaks the extension; you post several videos and nobody in the community asks 'what is this?'; you install a pile of free skins and after a month almost nobody pays for custom media or watermark removal.

Data as of 2026-11-06. ChartSkins' revenue and paying-user count are not public. The Whop membership count mixes in the founder's trading community, and the Chrome extension's user count is not shown on the store page.

## Why ChartSkins (iOS id 6821940603) took off

> Research date 2026-11-06. Sources: our App Store database (chart_rank / app_profile), iTunes lookup, chartskins.com, the Whop store page, the Chrome Web Store page, TikTok (TikHub), and Jina search.

### One line

ChartSkins is a tool that swaps TradingView's chart background for animated ones (aurora, starry sky, rainy night, or your own video/GIF behind the candles). Its main battlefield is the Chrome extension plus the TradingView Desktop app. iOS is only a Safari extension add-on. It took off because **the founder is himself an NQ futures day-trading creator on TikTok (@musiitrades, 32k followers)** . In the already established content niche of 'traders filming their own charts for short videos,' he posted a video, 'stars falling behind my candles,' that got 90k views, then layered on a UGC referral loop: 'post a video, get 1 months of Pro + a 10% affiliate commission.' The iOS side itself has a weak signal (2 ratings, charted only in low-barrier small-market finance Top Grossing lists like Oman and Colombia).

### 1. Basic facts

- The developer Mustafa Salman (Chrome Web Store registered address: Pembroke Pines, Florida, USA) has only this one app listed under their name. Live on iOS 2026-10-29, updated 11-02 times in 1.1.4,8 days. Category: Finance / Utilities, free with in-app purchases (monthly / yearly / lifetime). The US page has 2 ratings, averaging 5 stars (iTunes lookup, 11-06).

- Product lineup: Chrome/Brave/Edge/Arc/Opera extensions (Chrome version updated 1.2.2,11-05), Mac/Win companion apps for TradingView Desktop, iPhone/iPad Safari extensions, all under one email account (chartskins.com FAQ).

- Pricing: the web version sells through Whop. Pro is $6/month (crossed-out price $8.57), with yearly and lifetime options. No refunds. One Pro license covers 15 devices (whop.com/chartskins/chartskins-pro). The iOS version uses Apple in-app purchases.

- Timeline: Whop store assets uploaded 2026-10-05. First TikTok video 10-07 ('all free to download today and tomorrow'). 10-09 hit. 10-29 iOS launch. From 11-02, all 45 built-in skins became free, and Pro now sells only the Workshop (user-made skins), your own video/images, and watermark removal.

### 2. Data (from our database)

Every appstore.chart_rank entry for it (only in the finance category chart 6015, never on the overall chart):

| Date | Store | chart | Rank |
|---|---|---|---|
| 11-01 | Jamaica / Pakistan / Uganda | Finance, free | 155 / 160 / 203 |
| 11-02 | Jamaica; Oman | Free; Top Grossing | 133;14 |
| 11-03 | Jamaica; Oman | Free; Top Grossing | 97;23 |
| 11-04 | Oman | Top Grossing | 31 |
| 11-05 | Colombia; Oman | Top Grossing | 35;42 |
| 11-06 | Colombia; Oman | Top Grossing | 65;48 |

The finance Top Grossing charts in Oman and Colombia have a very low bar, so a handful of subscriptions is enough to chart. That shows people are paying on iOS, but at a very small scale. Major markets like the US didn't chart at all. 2 ratings, 7 new in the last 0 days. **iOS isn't where its growth comes from.**

The Chrome extension oonncpikfcckkichhhbgdbihdkppadgl isn't in our chromestore database (item_snap returns nothing), so its user count wasn't captured this time and remains unverified.

### 3. Competitors

| Name | Where | Launched | Scale | How it differs from ChartSkins |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TradingView's built-in settings | Big-company features | Always present | TradingView itself | Only solid or two-color gradients, no images or animated GIFs. This is exactly the gap ChartSkins fills (quoted from the trade-cut.com blog) |
| TradingView Pine scripts such as 'Animated Watermark' | TradingView scripts | Unknown | Niche | Can only add text-effect watermarks over the chart, not background video |
| ChartMods(chartmods.com) | Web/Chrome (not listed, must be loaded as a zip in developer mode) | 2026-10, mid (first TikTok post 10-17) | TikTok 386 followers | 11 backgrounds all free, no account, Pro $2.99/month or $9.99 one-time. Clearly a cheap copy of ChartSkins, with the same Alt+Shift+B shortcut |
| ChartFits(chartfits.trade) | Chrome + Win/Mac desktop | 2026-11 early (first TikTok post 11-05) | TikTok 26 followers | Copy, supported platforms (TradingView/TopstepX/Desktop), and the 'Turn on here' flow are nearly identical |
| TradeCut's Chart skins | Desktop App inline features | 2026-11-03 blog posts published | TradeCut is a trading screen-recording and editing tool | Free dynamic skins for 22 things, bundled as an extra with the screen-recording/TikTok-clip tool, signaling that the demand "good-looking charts = good-looking short videos" has been noticed |
| chartthemes (Reddit r/TradingView post) | Open source / web | 2024 | Small | Just color-theme templates, untouched |

Verdict: **there was no established "dynamic TradingView background" product before this; it's the creator of this small category** . Within a month of launch, at least 3 copycats have appeared (ChartMods, ChartFits, TradeCut as a bundled feature).

### 4. Growth tactics (evidence)

1. **The founder's own TikTok trading account (confirmed)** : the Whop store creator is "Musii Trades"; TikTok @musiitrades (31,805 followers, bio "Live Everyday", posts NQ futures P&L). 10-07 posted "free download today and tomorrow at chartskins.com" with 35k views, 10-09 "Chartskins.com on top" **90,909 views / 7,475 likes** , followed by several more posts.

2. **Brand account @chartskins (confirmed)** : 2,651 followers, 203k total likes, 31 posts. 10-07 same-format "free for a limited time" video **107,222 views / 4,505 likes** , 10-09 "So ez to use" with 45,536 views. After 10-26, videos dropped back to 500–900 views. The spike was concentrated in the week of 10-07 to 10-11. Bio reads "Dm to get affiliate link".

3. **UGC for Pro + 10% affiliate commission (confirmed)** : chartskins.com/affiliates. Post a chart video with a skin and tag it; once approved, you get 30 days of Pro. There's also a 10% commission affiliate program hosted on Whop, plus spoken promo codes. Searching "chartskins" on TikTok surfaces a tutorial by @.reapns (7,838 views), @nickgravestrades_ (5,477), @duallytradez ("Code: DuallyTradez 10% OFF #AD"), @prodigyaced, @br3ally, @ltrades7, @nq.mtrx and a string of other small trading accounts posting, each with a few hundred to a few thousand views. A classic "free membership for content" volume play.

4. **YouTube side account (confirmed, low volume)** : "How to Make TradingView Look INSANE for FREE! (ChartSkins…)" published 10-29, 301 views, with both a prop-firm referral link and a ChartSkins Pro affiliate link in the description.

5. **"Limited-time free" → "fully free, monetize only UGC and customization" (confirmed)** : launched with a limited-time free promo; the iOS version notes 1.1.4 made all 45 skins free, lowering the install barrier and converting through watermarks and custom media.

6. **TikTok topic/search traffic (partially confirmed)** : TikTok has discover pages "chart-skins-tradingview" and "tradingview-charts-wallpaper" whose content is ChartSkins'. Earlier large accounts had already shown this aesthetic demand: @nq.will "Chart colours" with 2026-09-09 **172k views** , and @nerayiku's anime × TradingView edits with 2026-02 17k views.

7. Paid ads, X, Reddit, media: nothing found. x-radar shows 0 results for "chartskins" in the past 60 days; no Reddit discussion threads.

### 5. Why it took off

- **The demand was bred by the trading short-video scene** : in the US "tradetok" scene, NQ/futures day traders record their TradingView screens and post to TikTok daily. The chart is their on-camera visual, and just changing the colors has already pulled hundreds of thousands of views (@nq.will). ChartSkins takes it a step further: video, starry skies, anime behind the candles, instantly different on camera. The buying motive is "my livestream/shorts look good" and "watching charts is fun," not trading performance. Its own Whop review even says: "Will it make you profitable? Of course not, but the charts have more personality."

- **The founder is inside the community** : he's a trading creator with 30k followers, runs a Discord trading community and a Whop store (Whop is the default payments tool in this circle), so cold start needed no paid spend, and the first video reached the right audience.

- **The video is the ad** : the product's effect is inherently visual, so every user's chart video doubles as a product demo. Amplified by "post a video, get Pro," this closes the loop: content → install → more content.

- **The technical execution is more solid than it looks** : it makes TradingView's native background transparent and layers video underneath, keeping indicators and drawings on top. It offers Dim/Blur/Opacity controls, 30fps, auto-pause in the background, a one-click toggle, and full restore on removal. It covers prop-firm platforms like TopstepX that embed TradingView charts, the desktop app, and Safari, covering everywhere traders actually watch charts.

- **Game-style packaging** : skins come in 5 rarity tiers, with daily loot boxes, monthly new skins, and community Workshop skins. It borrows the language of game skins, which matches the aesthetic of young male futures traders.

### 6. Differentiation, and why it took off

The differentiation is "dynamic/custom backgrounds TradingView itself can't do + game-skin packaging + full-platform coverage (Chrome, desktop app, Safari/iOS, TopstepX)." But the main reason it took off is **not** technical differentiation (ChartMods shipped an equivalent 47KB build within a month). It's **distribution** : the founder's own trading TikTok account plus UGC-for-membership and affiliate codes let it own the "chartskins" term and the TikTok topic within a week. First-mover in the category, with the product name doubling as the category name, is its current moat. Product-level moats (Workshop community content, cross-platform accounts) are still being built.

### 7. How many people have seen it

- Revenue is not public (not on TrustMRR; the founder hasn't posted it). Whop shows "536 members," "674 joined," "5.0 (28)," but the page itself notes it's the same Whop store as the trading community, so reviews and member counts may come from community members. Several reviews are 3 months old, predating ChartSkins' launch. **These numbers can't be taken as ChartSkins' paying users.**

- No media coverage and no big X accounts have written about it; Reddit hasn't discussed it. It has only spread within the small US futures TikTok circle.

- But copycats have already appeared (ChartMods, ChartFits, TradeCut), which shows developers in the same circle have noticed.

### 8. What others can learn

- Skins/beautification for "professional tools": users stare at an interface for hours a day (TradingView, IDEs, terminals, Notion, Figma…). When the vendor offers no personalization, some people will pay small amounts to make it look good. The prerequisite is a content scene that films that interface and puts it out in public.

- Creating content inside the target community yourself is the cheapest cold start. Then "post a video, get membership" turns every user into a distribution node.

- Whop handles payments, affiliates, and Discord in one place, a good fit for the TikTok trading/side-hustle crowd.

- Naming it after the category itself (chart skins) means TikTok topic pages and search naturally route to you.

### 9. Uncertain

- Real paying users and revenue: Whop member counts are mixed with the trading community; iOS only hit a Top Grossing chart in a low-barrier small storefront. Unverified.

- Chrome extension user count not captured (not in our database).

- After mid-October, TikTok video views dropped noticeably (to a few hundred). Unclear whether the peak has passed or what retention looks like.

- The biggest platform risk: whether TradingView adds background-image support itself, or changes page structure in a way that breaks the extension.
