WristMemo - Watch Voice Recorder & AI Transcription (WristMemo) · Yuezi Su

A one-day watch voice recorder: WristMemo hit #2 on the China-store productivity Top Paid chart, riding its name and timing, not the product

What it is An Apple Watch app: tap once on the watch to record all day, the audio syncs to your iPhone and is transcribed on-device, and every evening you get a recap of the day.

Why it took off Apple's Siri Recap only supports English and isn't available on China-market devices, and AI recording cards were selling well. Auday went viral on Xiaohongshu first. WristMemo launched on the second wave of that heat, named itself after search terms like "watch voice recorder", sold as a one-time purchase at a low price, posted across every channel on the same day, and climbed the Top Paid chart in the China store, where the bar is low.

CHow you could follow it Don't build another watch recorder. Copy the playbook instead: watch for big-tech features that are "English only / missing in China", ship a version on devices users already own within a few weeks, name it after long-tail search terms, sell on-device processing as a cheap one-time purchase, and post everywhere on the same day to push the paid charts.

C grade: watch recorders multiplied to a dozen-plus in a single month. #1 was the pioneer Auday, which spread overseas first too. WristMemo is small, its overall chart rank keeps slipping, and the playbook is now fully public. Once Siri Recap supports Chinese, the category gets eaten. The lessons are worth learning, but copying the product directly isn't worth it. What the circles are saying

WristMemo turns an Apple Watch into an all-day voice recorder. Audio syncs to the iPhone and is transcribed on-device, and each evening you get a recap of the day, for a one-time ¥28. It launched in Oct 17 and two days later was #2 in the China-store productivity Top Paid chart and #25 overall, with zero ad spend. But it isn't the first to do this. At least ten similar apps appeared in the same month, and the developer has written out the whole playbook publicly. If you want to follow, there's little room left in watch recording. What's worth learning is the playbook.

Morning #3, noon #2, afternoon overall #25

In 2026 Oct 19, indie developer kelvinmade (X @kelvinmade13) posted a long write-up that opened with a string of ranks:

#70, #30, down to #44, back up to #18, #10, waking up at #3, and #2 by noon. By afternoon it entered the overall Top Paid chart across all categories at #25, sitting alongside games and major apps.

He says he built the app in a single day with Claude Code. The video that brought in the most downloads was a 25-second Douyin clip he shot in a hurry because he "had no time left". It opens with "AI hardware recorders are hot lately", then he raises his wrist and taps the watch. By the screenshots he posted, the video passed 10k views in a day, with 200+ likes and 120 saves. The Xiaohongshu image posts he had worked hard on did only modestly.

The long post was later reposted in full on jxxy.net under the title "A one-day app with zero ad spend broke into the overall Top Paid chart at #25".

What it is

Usage is three steps: tap once on the watch to start recording, tap again to mark a key moment, long-press to stop. Audio syncs to the iPhone and is transcribed on-device. Every evening you get a recap covering what was discussed, what was decided, and what's still to do. No account signup, no server. ¥28 in the China store (launch price was ¥18), $3.99 in the US store, both one-time purchases.

The developer name shown in the store is "悦茨 宿", and the account has only this one App. In Oct 31, version 2.0 added a lot: it can tell speakers apart (this needs cloud transcription, with your own Alibaba Cloud or Tencent Cloud Key), it works with just an iPhone and no watch, older Series 4 watches can install it too, and there's also a Mac helper that lets Claude Code and Codex look up what you said during the day.

Why now

Demand was lit by three things at once:

  • Apple built it first, but it's not usable in China. On Sep 10 Apple announced Siri Recap for Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4. The watch listens all day and produces an evening summary. But the feature only arrives as a beta later this year, launches English-only, and isn't available on China-market devices.
  • AI recording cards were selling well. Clip-on-chest or phone-back recording cards at ¥199 to ¥888 each have sold steadily for two years. WristMemo's pitch was one line: "You already own the best AI recording hardware", meaning the watch on your wrist.
  • Auday went viral on Xiaohongshu first. Indie developer BaiFu's Auday launched in the China store in Oct 12 (per a Smzdm 10-22 article). The dev diary got 1,200+ likes and the comments ran 900 levels deep. Within a week, Shanjian, Nomily, Shilu and WristMemo had all appeared.

So WristMemo was a follower, a beat behind Auday, and it caught the second wave of traffic.

Where users come from

  • The name is the search term. The app is called "Wrist Notes - Watch Recorder, AI Transcription." The developer says searching "Wrist Notes" or "watch recorder" ranks it #1, "all-day recording" #4, and "watch recording" #6. He can't even crack the top 200 for broad terms like "recording to text," so he doesn't bother competing for them.
  • Every channel on the same day. The paid chart tracks recent download velocity, not cumulative totals. The same 50 sales can push the app very high if they land in two days but barely move it spread over two weeks. He concentrated Xiaohongshu, Douyin, WeChat Channels and Moments on one day to create a spike. He also says the China-store paid category charts are "thin", so a small utility with a few dozen paid downloads a day can reach the top 10.
  • Activation codes are rationed. Downloads via activation codes probably don't count toward the paid chart, so every free code given out during a push is one fewer paid download to boost ranking. He only gives out a limited number each day in the fan group. Recipients who use the app for 3 days and agree to write an honest review get one code to pass to a friend.
  • The developer's own write-up. The headline "One day to build, zero ad spend, overall Top Paid #25" was itself made to be shared.
  • Organic overseas traffic. He ran no promotion in English-speaking markets and relied only on the English store page. His best self-reported ranks were #21 in the Canada category chart and #66 in the US.

He also wrote about a pitfall: replying to every comment on Xiaohongshu with "DM me your email" to request codes got his account restricted for interaction, for "guiding off-platform transactions".

How big it is now

Small, and the peak has already passed.

  • China store: productivity Top Paid chart, held at #2,11-05 from 10-28 to 11-04 and then dropped to #3. #1 has been Auday (¥68) the whole time. Overall Top Paid slid from #45 in 10-28 to #113,11-06 in 11-02 and then #101.
  • Ratings: 26 total across all countries (11-06), adding about 1 per day. China store 23 ratings, average 3.87. US store 3 ratings, average 2 stars.
  • Overseas: 11-06 is #7 in the Singapore productivity Top Paid chart, #10 in Vietnam and South Africa, #50 in the US, and #57 in Canada (10-28 at #17).
  • Revenue: Apple doesn't publish download numbers. Based on the developer's claim of "a few dozen paid downloads a day to get into the top 10 of the category", it's probably selling a few dozen copies a day now, putting revenue in the range of several hundred to over a thousand yuan a day (estimate).

The overall chart has been sliding steadily and ratings have only been ticking up one by one. That suggests that once the push days passed, what's holding it up is mainly a handful of search placements.

What users say

The good reviews all say some version of "Finally no need to carry a second device":

This app replaced the recorder I'd used for a year… auto-record, auto-transcribe and summarize, auto-export. If it had come out a year earlier I wouldn't have wasted money on a recorder (China store 5 stars, 11-01)
Phone recording is inconvenient in meetings and other places where recording is needed, and the watch is very handy… the watch recording syncs to the phone quickly, and the phone-side audio is clear and the transcription accurate (China store 5 stars, 10-21)

The bad reviews point to the usual problems with this kind of product:

Any incoming call interrupts it. With lots of calls a day, it often misses recordings, so the core function fails. Where can I get a refund? (China store 1 stars, 10-24)
Won't install and won't refund (China store 1 stars, 10-30)

Calls interrupting recording, the watch-side install hanging on the spinner, and battery life that doesn't last. Users have raised these same issues in reviews of Auday and other similar apps.

Siri RecapAnnounced 9-10, beta this yearSeries 12 / Ultra 4 onlySummaries only, no audio kept. English only. Not available in China.

WristMemo is not far from Auday or Wrist Echo in product terms. It reached #2 on the chart because of timing, the name, a low price, and a concentrated push to climb the charts. The Mac assistant angle gives people in the scene a reason to share it, but we can't yet see how many downloads it brought in.

If it were you

Grade C: Worth learning from, but don't compete on watch recordings. A dozen-plus rivals have crowded in within a month. The #1 spot still belongs to Auday, the pioneer, which was also the first to expand overseas. The playbook is now fully public and the category is small. If Apple ever brings Siri Recap to Chinese-language users and to China-market devices, the system feature will swallow much of this category.

Who it's for: a solo indie dev who uses tools like Claude Code to ship an app in a few days, and can record a rough talking-head video. What to study is the method, not this product.

Who it's not for: anyone planning another Apple Watch recording app. You'd rank behind Auday, WristMemo, and Wrist Echo, and those names already own the search slots. Overseas is no better: Auday has charted in 30+ countries.

How to do it: watch for features Big Tech has just announced that are "English only / not in China / new devices only", and build them on hardware users already own before the big companies roll them out. Ship a first version that does one thing, sold as a one-time purchase, with anything computable on-device kept off servers, so ¥18–28 can still be profitable. If you must work in recordings, only one direction still looks open: truly fix the complaints shared across the category (call interruptions, battery life, watch-side installation), then market the fix.

How to get users: put the long-tail keywords users actually search for in the app name, and skip the big head terms. After launch, post on Xiaohongshu, Douyin, WeChat Channels, and Moments on the same day. Videos can be rough, but must make sense within three seconds. During the chart push, don't hand out activation codes too often, and keep emails and WeChat IDs out of the comments. Ask for an App Store rating only when the user first feels the value (for example, when they first see the daily recap).

When to get in: launch within two to four weeks of a Big Tech feature drop. WristMemo went live 37 days after Siri Recap was announced and 5 days after Auday went on sale. Another week later and it would have ended up like Wrist Echo: dozens of places down the chart with zero ratings.

Signs this read is wrong: ① WristMemo or Auday discloses monthly revenue in the tens of thousands of dollars or more, which would mean the category is bigger than it looks and followers can still win a share; ② two months from now most rivals have stopped updating while WristMemo still holds around #3 in its category, which would mean search slots can really sustain a small business and the first-mover playbook is worth more than assumed here; ③ conversely, if Siri Recap announces Chinese support this year, the window for this category closes.

Why WristMemo (iOS 6822356428) got traction

In one line: a one-time-purchase app that turns an Apple Watch into an all-day voice recorder (¥28 in the China store / $3.99 in the US store). Recordings sync to the iPhone and are transcribed on-device with SenseVoice, then a daily recap is produced. The developer, 悦茨 宿 = kelvinmade (X @kelvinmade13), is one person, and this is his only app.

Verdict

WristMemo is the fastest and cleanest of the followers, not the category pioneer. Three things ignited the demand together: in September 10 Apple announced Siri Recap (listens to conversations all day and produces a summary at night), but it is English only and doesn't work on China-market devices; AI recording cards (¥199–888) were selling hot in China; and in early October Auday blew up on Xiaohongshu (1200+ likes on a development diary, nearly 900 comments). WristMemo launched in October 17, rode that second wave of traffic, and took the #2 spot on the category chart through three moves: ① the app name written as a search term ("Watch Voice Recorder · AI Recording to Text"); ② a low ¥18 one-time price, with transcription on-device and no server costs; ③ the China paid category chart has a low bar, so posts on Douyin, Xiaohongshu, WeChat Channels, and Moments on the same day produced a short-term speed peak. The product is barely different from Auday's. What really differs is distribution (keyword naming + low price + concentrated chart push + the founder's retrospective on X).

1. Data

Sources: our App Store library (app_day / app_profile, 2026-10-28 to 11-06) and iTunes lookup (2026-11-06).

  • Launched 2026-10-17; version 2.0 (2026-10-31 updates). China store ¥28 (the developer's retrospective says the launch price was ¥18), US store $3.99.
  • China store: productivity Top Paid chart 10-28 to 11-04, holding #2,11-05 from the start and then #3; the #1 spot ahead of it has been Auday all along (¥68). Overall Top Paid rank #10-28 → #45 → 11-01 → #101 → 11-02 → #113 → 11-06 → #101, falling steadily. China store rating 17 → 23 (10 days, +6), average 3.87.
  • Overseas (English name WristMemo - Watch Voice Notes): productivity Top Paid category #7 in Singapore, #10 in Vietnam, #10 in South Africa, #50 in the US (between 10-28 and 11-06 during 37–137), #57 in Canada (#10-28 at 17). Overseas ratings are only 2 in the US and 1 in Australia; US average 2.0.
  • Across all countries combined there are 26 ratings, adding roughly 1 per day. Apple doesn't disclose download numbers; going by the developer's own remark that "a few dozen paid downloads in the China store's paid category get you into the top 10", the absolute scale is very small.

3. Where users come from (growth levers)

  1. The app name is the search term (confirmed): the app is named "WristMemo - Watch Voice Recorder & AI Transcription". The developer says searching "腕记" or "手表录音笔" ranks #1, "全天录音" ranks #4, and "手表录音" ranks #6. Broad terms like "录音转文字" don't even make the top 200, so he deliberately skipped them. Source: X long post x.com/kelvinmade13/status/2112132185318994230 (2026-10-19), reposted at www.jxxy.net/ai/articles/kelvinmade-wristmemo-one-day-app/
  2. Rough Douyin talking-head video (confirmed, self-reported by the developer): a casually shot 25-second talking-head clip hit over 10k views in one day, with 200+ likes and 120 saves (save rate above 1%). The more polished Xiaohongshu image posts did worse. Source as above. TikHub didn't verify the original Douyin video.
  3. All channels launched on one day to push the Top Paid chart (confirmed): Xiaohongshu, Douyin, WeChat Channels, and Moments all went out the same day. Top Paid rewards short-term download speed, so the category rank went 70 → 30 → 44 → 18 → 10 → 3 → 2, and at peak it reached #25 on overall Top Paid (before our database started, around 10-19). Our records start on 10-28, when it was #45 on overall Top Paid, and it then slid to 101, so the peak didn't hold.
  4. Rode the category buzz from Auday and Siri Recap (confirmed): an smzdm 10-22 article listed Wristmemo among "the group that appeared the week after Auday blew up," when it was #34 in the productivity paid category. That shows it was feeding off the same Xiaohongshu traffic wave. post.m.smzdm.com/p/anv9noep/
  5. Activation codes were rationed (confirmed): codes were handed out in limited daily batches in the fan group. Anyone who used one for 3 days and wrote a real review got another to give to a friend. Because downloads via activation codes most likely don't count toward the paid chart, handing out too many would drag the ranking down.
  6. Founder posted a retrospective on X and in Chinese AI circles (confirmed): the headline "Claude Code built in one day, zero ad spend, reached #25 on overall Top Paid" was itself a piece of distribution, and jxxy.net reprinted it. It also funnels traffic to his Mac assistant (in beta) and his personal brand.
  7. Organic overseas traffic (confirmed, very small scale): no English-language promotion at all. Just the English App Store page got it to #21 in the Canada category and #66 in the US (self-reported). Our database shows a US best of #37. He says the next steps are Reddit, overseas TikTok, and English keywords.
  8. Paid ads: the developer says "zero ad spend." The ad libraries show nothing for it (they only track products on their watch list, so not finding ads doesn't prove none were run).

4. Why users would pay and stay

  • Demand has already been validated: AI recorder devices sell well, and Siri Recap made "all-day recording + AI summaries" a talking point, but users in China can't use it. Wristmemo lets people who already own an Apple Watch skip buying another device, and they can try it for ¥18–28.
  • One-time purchase, no account sign-up, transcription on-device: no subscription anxiety, and the privacy story holds up.
  • Positive reviews: "This app made me drop the voice recorder I'd used for a year… auto-record, auto-transcribe and summarize, auto-export" (cn, 11-01,5 stars); "Watch recording syncs to the phone quickly… accurate transcription" (cn, 10-21,5 stars).
  • Negative reviews: "It cuts out whenever a phone call comes in… where can I get a refund?" (cn, 10-24,1 stars); "Can't install and no refund" (cn, 10-30,1 star). Calls interrupting recording is a shared problem across the category (on X, @DIGITALYCHEE raised the same issue with Auday). The US average rating is only 2.0.
  • Retention: no data. The rating gains about 1 per day and the overall chart rank is sliding, which suggests that once the peak push ended, organic traffic depends mainly on search placement.

5. Differentiation

  • Versus Auday: cheaper (¥28 vs ¥68); no need to set up your own API; the app name matches search terms better; the first version does three things (tap to start, tap to mark key moments, long-press to stop → synced transcription → nightly recap). There is also a Mac assistant (in beta) that lets Claude Code / Codex query what you said during the day. That's a distinctive angle for AI developers (https://kelvinmade.com/wristmemo/).
  • Versus Apple's Siri Recap: keeps the original audio, supports Chinese, works on every Watch, and can record with only an iPhone.
  • Are these differences why it ranked so high? Mostly not. The product is roughly on par with Auday and Wrist Echo. It reached #2 through distribution tactics: timing (entering in the second wave of a hot trend) + keyword-driven naming + low price + an all-at-once chart push, plus the fact that the China store's paid category has a low bar to entry. The Mac + Claude Code angle so far only gets insiders to share it. There's no evidence it has driven downloads.

6. How many people have seen it

It's circulating in a small circle. The developer posted a full retrospective on X (the chart push, channels, and ranks were all disclosed), jxxy.net reprinted it, and an smzdm AIGC roundup article named it. Searching "腕记 / WristMemo / Auday" in the X corpus (x-radar) returns only 0 posts, and no big accounts reposting it. Revenue isn't public, but the playbook is fully disclosed and the category is already crowded: at least 10 similar apps in one month.

7. What's worth borrowing

  • Find demand that hardware has already validated, and turn it into software using a device users already have (Apple Watch). Watch for gaps in big-company features: "English only / not available in China."
  • Write the app name as a long-tail search term, and don't go after broad terms.
  • Paid charts reward speed: launch on all channels on the same day. Be restrained with activation codes, since downloads through them don't count toward the paid chart.
  • Product videos should be rough and understandable at a glance. Don't put off-platform contact info in comments, or Xiaohongshu will throttle your reach.
  • Trigger the system rating prompt the moment users first feel the value (he had zero ratings on day one).
  • On-device transcription + one-time purchase: no server costs, so low pricing can still make money.

8. What's still uncertain
