Five Norwegian high schoolers, a student company shut down by their school, and a "find the after-party" app that hit #2 on the social chart the day after launch
What it is Find after-parties nearby on a map (nach). You request to join alone or with friends, and the host approves before you see the address. Safety features include SOS, a secret code word, home check-ins, and age limits.
Why it took off The five high schoolers who built it are its users too. They filmed "we made an app, got shut down by our school, and registered our own company" as TikTok videos, which drove downloads inside their school circles. Norway's social chart is thin beyond a few big apps, so a few hundred downloads is enough for the top three.
CHow you could follow it Don't copy the find-the-after-party idea. Copy the chart tactics: pick small countries and languages with category charts, name the app with local slang, have the team appear on camera for weeks before launch, concentrate downloads in your personal network on launch day, then use the ranking in your promotion.

Nach Finder was built by five boys at a high school south of Oslo, Norway: find nach (the after-party) nearby on a map, and you only see the address once the host approves you. It launched in 2026 Nov 5 and charted at #2 on the Norway App Store Social Top Free chart the next day, sitting between WhatsApp and Threads. No revenue, no ratings, no press coverage. It charted because of the TikToks these guys made themselves, plus how low the bar is on Norway's social chart.
Three videos on the morning of Nov 5
Early on Nov 5, the TikTok account @nachfinder posted three videos within an hour. The top one was captioned "Alle får 20 prosent btw, se slutten" (everyone gets 20%, btw, watch to the end), tagged #gruppearbeid (group project). Five people, 20% each. By 11-06 it had 17.5k views, 1,094 likes, and 195 shares. Another, just "DEN ER UTE, ENDELIG!!!!!!" (it's out, finally!!!!!!), tagged #AS, the Norwegian abbreviation for a limited company.
The comments were all peers: "Hvem er playern i gjengen?" (who's the player in the group?), "Får prøve da" (guess I'll try it), "Ses på nach" (see you on nach). The account replied itself: "APPEN ER UTE BTW, SERVERNE ER LAGGY 200+ BRUKERE ALLEREDE" (the app is out, the servers are laggy, already 200+ users). A bit later: "FUNKER PERFEKT NÅ ALLE BUGS FIKSA" (works perfectly now, all bugs fixed).
The bio reads: "APP UTE I APPSTORE!! Risktakers/Moneymakers … MEST NEDLASTA APP DENNE UKA" (most downloaded app this week). The account has 6 videos and 463 followers in total (TikHub, 11-06).
What it is
Open the app and you see a map with nearby nach marked. The address stays hidden. You can request alone, with your "bussgruppa" (the group that rents a bus together for the russ graduation season), or create a "lobby" for tonight and request together. The host approves, then the address appears, and you can chat with the host and get directions.
Most of the description covers safety: one tap to call 112, 113, or share your location with chosen friends; "Kom du deg trygt hjem?" (did you get home safely?), with a notification to friends if you don't reply on time; each nach has a secret code word you can say to the host if you're in trouble, undetectable to others; a fake incoming call to give you a reason to leave; hosts must agree to "no alcohol for anyone under 18"; age gaps within one nach are capped at 3 years; reports are handled within 24 hours; locations aren't stored, and there are no ads or tracking (App Store Norway description, 11-06).
The app is Norwegian-only, 4.9MB, free with no in-app purchases. The developer account is under an adult named Rakel Benjaminsen, who has only this one app (likely a member's parent, unverified). The store age rating is 17+, but its users are mainly high schoolers.
Shut down by the school, then they registered a company
It began as the "ungdomsbedrift" (Norway's student company program) at Roald Amundsen High School in Oppegård. About 14k students join each year, and building a student app isn't unusual. Around Oct 21, an account called @nach.finder.ub posted: "Roald Amundsen VGS nekter ungdomsbedriften Nach Finder å fortsette driften av appen" (Roald Amundsen VGS won't let the student company Nach Finder keep running the app). The post no longer loads, only its summary remains in search. Public information doesn't say why the school stopped it. Likely related to parties and alcohol, but unconfirmed.
The team didn't stop. They registered their own company and kept going. On launch day they wrote in the comments: "Snart AS, holder på og registrere nå" (soon an AS, registering now) and joked "just got off the phone with Shark Tank." "Banned by the school," "we registered a company," and "Risktakers/Moneymakers" are lines teenagers will share on their own.
Why it reached #2 the next day
Norway App Store Social Networking Top Free chart 11-06: the top six are WhatsApp, Nach Finder, Threads, Bump, Russ.no and Signal. Most spots are held by a few entrenched big apps, so competition further down is thin. A new app pulling a few hundred downloads a day can crack the top three. It also ranks #74 on the Norway overall free chart, which implies roughly a few hundred daily downloads (an estimate; Apple doesn't publish download counts). The team's own claim of "200+ users" fits that scale.
So the #2 rank shows that a group of high schoolers installed it on the same day within the same circle. It doesn't show how many people are actually using it.
Four things made it work:
- The team are the users, and they are the content. The five of them already went to nach. They didn't film product demos. They filmed the daily life of "a few of us made an app" at school, which peers found funny enough to forward. The launch video got 17.5k views and 195 shares, and for an account with 463 followers, spread happened almost entirely within their circles.
- nach already spreads by word of mouth. Norwegian teens find after-parties through Snapchat stories, group chats, and friends bringing friends. No dedicated tool exists. The product's distribution path is the same as nach's: same school, same city, same russ bus.
- The name is the search term. "nach" is a word Norwegian young people use every day. Searching it in the App Store returns only one competitor.
- Timing. 11-06 was a Friday. The same day, the only similar competitor Nach? jumped from #189 to #58 on the social chart, and the russ community Russ.no rose from #14 to #5. The whole category may have risen together the night before the weekend, or Nach Finder may have driven searches for "nach." Not verified.
No ads, media coverage, or creator partnerships found. Nobody on X mentioned it, and Norwegian media hasn't written about it.
Who it's competing with
| Competitors | What it is | Scale (Norway store) | How Nach Finder differs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nach?(Devran Akat) | Listed on 2026-05; a similar app that lets you publish, share, and discover nearby nach, with group chat | 0 ratings; social free chart 11-01 #189,11-06 #58 | Closest in features, but no approval step, age limits, or safety design. One developer runs a series of small local Norwegian apps and does no promotion. |
| Russ.no | The all-in-one russ graduation-season community | Usually #9–19,11-06 on the social free chart #5 | Same users, broader use case, not specifically for finding after-parties |
| Snapchat | Snap Map plus Snapchat stories | Norwegian teens' main social tool | Nach messages now largely spread here, but there's no request, approval, or age-limit system |
| Bump | Friends' location map (the original Zenly team) | Social free chart #2–4 | Overlaps only in seeing each other's location within a lobby; doesn't do event discovery |
| Jodel | Anonymous local community | Social free chart #8–12 | People ask "where's a nach tonight" there, but there are no structured events |
The real competitor isn't Nach?. It's the Snapchat story. To get people to switch to a new app, enough hosts in one city have to post there for young people to start searching it.
What it doesn't solve
- Money. Free, no in-app purchases, no ads, and no plans to monetize.
- Retention. One day live with zero ratings, so there's no sign whether this was a one-time chart spike or something that sticks. Its rank and ratings on 11-07 and 11-08 this weekend are the first real signals.
- Risk. An app that sends minors to strangers' homes for parties, already shut down once by their school. The rule of a 3-year maximum age gap relies on users self-reporting ages, and the description mentions no identity verification. Comments already include "Hvor er stoffern" (where are the drugs). One serious incident could bring takedowns from parents, media, or Apple review.
If it were you
Verdict: Building a find-the-after-party app isn't worth it. The chart tactics are.
Who it fits: People inside a tight young-person circle (a school, a club, one city's scene) who can use themselves and friends as content, and indie developers who want first-wave exposure on the App Store category charts of small-country or minor-language markets.
Who it doesn't fit: People who need revenue (this kind of product has no monetization path right now), people outside the target group who would have to rely on paid acquisition, and people who can't absorb the public and review risk of "minors plus alcohol."
How to do it: Don't copy the nach concept. Copy the moves: pick a small country or minor-language category chart (first check how many spots in the top ten remain after the big regulars), name the app with the word locals actually use, have the dev team appear on camera and turn "we're building this app" into an ongoing story starting at least three weeks before launch (their first post was on 10-15), push downloads inside your own circle on launch day, and once you chart, put "most downloaded this week" back into the listing and videos. If you want to do offline youth social events, follow their lead and put safety features first, because that's what parents and schools will read.
How to get users: Your own TikTok, plus the circle you're already in. Their numbers show that an account with 463 followers can reach a top category chart in Norway if its content gets shared within a close circle.
When to start: Youth offline social apps are seasonal. Norway's russ season runs from 4 to May, so the window for launching this kind of product is the one or two months before it (2027 2 to March). Chart tactics work for other categories too, with no timing limit.
Signs you misread it: If by the end of November Nach Finder is still in the top 20 on Norway's social chart and its ratings climb past several dozen, this isn't just a one-time circle spike, and "controlled entry plus safety" is worth a serious look in other countries with similar party cultures (Sweden, Denmark). Conversely, if it drops out of the top 100 within a week, that again suggests a #2 on a category chart may last only a day.

Bottom line
Nach Finder is an app built by a few boys at a Norwegian upper-secondary school (Roald Amundsen vgs, in Oppegård south of Oslo) to find a nearby nach (the after-party spot). It started as an "ungdomsbedrift" (the student company program from Ungt Entreprenørskap) at school. The school shut the project down in October, so the team registered its own AS (limited company) and kept building, with the developer account under an adult, Rakel Benjaminsen. It launched on 11-05 and hit #74 overall and #2 in Social Top Free in Norway on day one. The push came from the team's own TikTok account plus spread through classmates' networks, and Norway's iOS social chart has a low bar, so a few hundred downloads was enough. It is not a market-validated business: zero ratings, no revenue model, no press coverage. For now it is a student project's launch spike.
1. What it is
- Name Nach Finder, developer Rakel Benjaminsen (only app under this account), v1.0 released 2026-11-05, free, no IAP, 4.9MB, 17+, Bokmål only; contact [email protected], no website (source: Apple lookup, country=no).
- Features: shows nearby nach on a map, with addresses revealed only after the host approves; you can request alone, or request together with a "bussgruppa" (russ bus group) or a lobby you create; after approval you can chat with the host; route navigation.
- The selling point is safety design: SOS (one tap to call 112/113 or send your location to chosen friends), "Kom du deg trygt hjem?" home check-in (friends are notified if you don't reply), a passphrase per nach (tell the host the phrase to ask for help), fake incoming calls, hosts must agree to "no alcohol for anyone under 18", a maximum age gap of 3 years within one nach, reporting and blocking (handled within 24 hours), no stored location, no ads or tracking.
2. Data (our library, Norway store)
| Date | Nach Finder | Competitor Nach? (Devran Akat) | Russ.no |
|---|---|---|---|
| 11-01 | Not listed | Social Top Free #189 | Social Top Free #18 |
| 11-05 | Launch day, did not chart | Not charted | Social Top Free #14 |
| 11-06 | Overall Top Free #74, Social Top Free #2 | Social Top Free #58 | Social Top Free #5, overall Top Free #112 |
- 11-06 Norway Social Top Free leaders: WhatsApp #1, Nach Finder #2, Threads #3, Bump #4, Russ.no #5, Signal #6 (appstore library, v_chart). Most of Norway's social chart is held by established big apps, so a new app only needs daily downloads close to theirs to break into the top three. Daily downloads behind Norway overall Top Free #74 are estimated in the hundreds (inferred; Apple does not publish download counts).
- The team said in the TikTok comments that on launch day there were "200+ users, the servers were struggling" (comment on @nachfinder, 11-05). That fits the scale implied by Social #2.
- 0 ratings, no reviews (11-06 Apple lookup). Retention cannot be judged yet.
- 11-06 competitor Nach? also jumped from #189 to #58, and Russ.no rose from #14 to #5. Inferred: a wave of "nach"-related searches or buzz lifted the whole category that day; it may also be a seasonal effect of 11-06, a Friday or the eve of the weekend. Not verified.
3. Where users came from (growth tactics)
- Team-owned TikTok @nachfinder (confirmed): 463 followers, 4,868 total likes, 6 videos in total (TikHub, 11-06).
- Two teaser videos, 10-15 and 10-16 (10.7k and 11.6k views), one of them titled "Group of doom😭".
- On launch day 11-05 posted 3 videos in a row: "Alle får 20 prosent btw, se slutten #gruppearbeid" with 17.2k views, 1,080 likes and 191 shares; "DEN ER UTE, ENDELIG!!!! #AS" with 5,325 views; "#nachhooper" with 6,457 views.
- 11-06 posted another one about the safety features (2,061 views).
- The bio reads "APP UTE I APPSTORE!! Risktakers/Moneymakers … MEST NEDLASTA APP DENNE UKA #freenachfinder".
- The approach is funny everyday campus content starring the team members, treating "a few of us built an app" itself as the content. "Alle får 20 prosent" means each of the 5 people gets 20% equity.
- Classmates' networks (confirmed): comments are peer-to-peer ("Hvem er playern i gjengen?", "Får prøve da", "Ses på nach"), and member kristian.melhus posts #Nachisme content from a personal account and tags @Nach Finder UB. Nach is something students spread by word of mouth, so the product naturally travels through same-school and same-city student networks.
- 「被学校封杀」的故事(部分确认):10-21 账号 @nach.finder.ub 发过一条图文「Roald Amundsen VGS stopper app-drift for ungdomsbedrift. Roald Amundsen VGS nekter ungdomsbedriften Nach Finder å fortsette driften av appen…」(Jina 搜索摘要;原帖现在显示不可用)。团队 11-05 在评论里说「Snart AS* holder på og registere nå」(马上是 AS 了,正在注册),还开玩笑说「Var p call med sharktank」。推断:学校以学生公司不能做「派对和酒精」相关产品为由叫停,团队转成正式公司,「被学校禁了」反而成了话题。@nach.finder.ub 很可能就是改名前的 @nachfinder(最早两条视频的时间对得上),没有核实。
- Store search (inferred): the app is literally called "Nach Finder", which matches the term "nach" that Norwegian teens actually search for; the only competitor for that term is Nach?, which has almost no traffic.
- Ads, media, creators, X: none found. The X corpus returned zero results; web search found no Norwegian media coverage; the library has no ad records (the ad library only tracks products on its list, so no records doesn't mean no spend, but given a student team's resources, paid acquisition is very unlikely).
4. Competitors
| Competitors | Platform | Launched | Scale | How Nach Finder differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nach?(Devran Akat, nachteam.no) | iOS | 2026-05-13 | 0 ratings; Norway Social Top Free 11-01 #189,11-06 #58 | Closest in features: create, share and discover nearby nach, with images and group chat. But it doesn't emphasize approval or safety, and has no age-gap limit, SOS or passphrases. Its developer is one person churning out small local Norwegian apps, with no student network and no TikTok content. |
| Russ.no(R&U Holding AS) | iOS | 2025-08-12 | 10 ratings; Norway Social Top Free usually #9–#19,11-06, peaked at #5 | A general community aimed at russ (graduation party season), not specifically for finding the after-party; same user pool, broader scenario. |
| Russesjefen(Michael C. Hauslere) | iOS | 2026-02-26 | 14 ratings; a Norway category Top Free chart #41–#115 | A russ-season utility app, doesn't do party discovery |
| Snapchat (Snap Map + Stories) | Big-company features | Already around | Norwegian teens' main social tool | Nach messages now spread mainly through Snap Stories and group chats; Snap Map shows where friends are, but there's no "request to join, host approval, age limits" system |
| Bump (the original Zenly team) | iOS/Android | 2023-12 | Norway Social Top Free #2–#4 | Real-time location sharing and a friends map; Nach Finder's "seeing locations inside a lobby" overlaps with it, but Bump doesn't do event discovery |
| Jodel | iOS/Android | 2014 | Norway Social Top Free #8–#12 | An anonymous local community where people ask "where's a nach tonight", but with no structured events or approvals |
Also, about 14k students take part in ungdomsbedrift each year (ungdomsbedrift.no), so students building apps is common; but for the specific problem of "finding a nach", no store app other than Nach? turned up. The Google Play library has no app with the same name or the same category.
5. Why it made the chart (for this single day's ranking)
- Low bar on the charts: outside a few established big apps, Norway's iOS social Top Free lets a new app reach the top three with a few hundred downloads. Social #2 reflects a concentrated launch-day wave, not scale.
- The team is the target audience, and the content: 5 high school boys filming their own everyday life; peers find it funny and share it (191 shares), and they are the people who go to nach anyway. Distribution cost is close to zero.
- The hook is built-in conflict: "banned by school", "Risktakers/Moneymakers", "we're registering an AS". For teens that's strong social currency.
- The need is real and there's been no good tool for it: Norwegian teen nach culture is strong, and it currently runs on Snap and word of mouth. Strangers going to an after-party does carry safety risk, so using age gaps, host approval, passphrases and SOS to lower the risk is an attempt to persuade parents and schools at the same time.
- The name is the search term: "Nach Finder" maps directly onto search intent, and the only older competitor, Nach?, has done no promotion.
6. Differentiation
- How Nach Finder compares to Nach?: Nach? is open-ended, anyone can create and share. Nach Finder is built around controlled access and safety (addresses shown only after approval, same-age limits, host rules, a passcode, fake calls, home check-ins, SOS), plus group applications for small crews (lobbies, bus groups). That fits how Norwegian teens tend to go out in packs.
- But going by the data, what got it to chart was mostly distribution, not differentiation: the team's own TikTok and their classmates' networks, all hitting a very low-bar chart at once. The safety design is part of the pitch (11-06's video talks about it specifically), and it may help it get past parents and schools, but there's no evidence users are showing up for those features.
- Risk: the product encourages minors to go to parties at strangers' homes. That invites pushback from parents, schools, media, or Apple review (a school has already shut it down once). The age-gap limit of 3 years can't verify real ages (the description doesn't mention identity verification).
7. Visibility and copycats
- Visibility: almost nobody knows about it yet. No media coverage, zero mentions on X, no revenue (free, no IAP, no ads). The only public promotion is the team's own TikTok (up to 17k views).
- Copycats: none found. If anything, Nach Finder itself is the follow-up to Nach? (2026-05).
8. What others can learn
- The TikTok playbook of "the team is the target user, and the startup journey is the content": very high share rate, zero cost.
- On a small-country, small-language social chart, a concentrated launch push can reach a high rank, then the "most-downloaded app this week" claim gets used as marketing (the listing already says so).
- For youth social products, put the safety mechanics up front (passcodes, home check-ins, age gaps) to answer parent and school resistance.
- The name is a search term taken straight from local slang.
9. Uncertain
- Retention and what's next: it had been live for a single day, so it's impossible to tell whether this is a one-off chart spike or something that sticks. Weekend ranking and rating growth (11-07, 11-08) are the key things to watch.
- Open questions: the specific reason the school shut it down, whether the AS registered, and the relationship between the developer account holder Rakel Benjaminsen and the team (speculation: a parent of one member; a same-name person on LinkedIn is a co-founder and developer at Dote, unverified).
- Why 11-06 Nach? and Russ.no are rising together.
- Whether there's an Android version (not found in the Google Play library).
- Business model: no monetization at the moment.
