**What it is** An ad-free, YouTube-style music and video player for Android that monetizes through ads. Its name rides on the discontinued YouTube Vanced.

**Why it took off** Its namesake predecessor, July, was pulled from Google Play. Four weeks later this one went up and caught the search traffic for "vanced." The package name is stuffed with keywords, and the rating prompt only sends five-star ratings to the store. The 1.0 version has sat there with a 4.5-star rating ever since.

YouTube Vanced died 2022 years ago, but the word "vanced" still gets searched every day. Whoever holds that name on Google Play gets a share of that traffic. A clone player that has only shipped 1.0 versions rode that and hit 188k installs within three months of launch. Here's how it did it, how much money it makes, why most people shouldn't follow it, and the one move worth taking.

### One pulled, one takes its place

On 2026 Jul 14, RemRim Apps' "Vanced Tube - Player" disappeared from Google Play (per AppBrain's removal records). Four weeks later, on Aug 11, a developer called Nothing Infotech published "Vanced Tube - MP3 Media Player." The opening lines of the two store descriptions are word-for-word identical: "Vanced Player is a modern, powerful, and easy-to-use music player……"

The new one has never been updated. The developer contact is a Gmail address, the "official site" is an empty Blogspot with only an app-ads.txt for ads, and the privacy policy sits on another Blogspot. The package name is itself a string of search terms:

The last paragraph of the description says "This app does not support YouTube downloads, to comply with Play Store policy," and the next line says "fast, safe, ad-free experience." But this app makes money from ads and has no in-app purchases.

### What it is

An Android music and video player: background playback, floating mini window, MP3/MP4, equalizer, dark mode. Its features are close to those of Pure Tuber and GoTube, ad-free YouTube players with hundreds of millions of installs. The only real difference is the name: it's called Vanced.

Vanced was Team Vanced's modified YouTube app that removed ads and allowed background playback. It stopped updating in March 2022 under legal pressure from Google (Ars Technica). Its successor, ReVanced, has to be sideloaded and patched by hand, which ordinary users can't manage. Over the past couple of years, Vanced tutorials kept circulating on TikTok: in August 21 an Indonesian account posted "YouTube Vanced v21.32.5 download link" and got 34k views, and in June 30 someone in Mexico posted "What really happened to YouTube Vanced." People who wanted this kept looking but didn't know where to find it, so they searched the Play Store for the name.

For the first four weeks after launch there was almost no traffic. It accelerated in October, reaching four to five thousand a day by late October and early November. 11-06 It hit the top 200 of the free Video Players chart in 8 countries: India 74, France 80, Malaysia 125, Argentina 145, Spain 146, Thailand 150, Vietnam 172, Poland 190. It never made the overall chart in any country.

Three possible causes:

**1. Taking the name.** Users searching "vanced," "youtube vanced," or "ad free youtube" saw an app with the same name, a 4.5-star rating, and 100k+ installs, and installed it. After launch it hit #19 on Finland's Video Players "New Free" chart (AppBrain).

**2. Filling the gap left by takedowns.** Under the same keyword, RemRim's 7-14 was pulled, and another app, "Revanced - Video & Music," was pulled too (9-18). It began accelerating in October. The timing lines up, but the causation can't be confirmed (inference).

**3. The broader environment is pushing people to the store.** YouTube is still cracking down on ad blockers and third-party clients this year. ReVanced's GitHub repo was reportedly taken down under a DMCA request in March (secondhand report, unverified). Starting in September 30, Google required developer verification for sideloading in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand, making it harder to install APKs of unknown origin (Android Authority 10-01). People who used to sideload ReVanced are more likely to go back to Play and search by name. Its October acceleration and its rise on Thailand's chart fit this timing (inference).

We found no TikTok videos promoting it, and it doesn't appear in the Meta, Google, or TikTok ad libraries. With only a little over a thousand installs in its first month, it doesn't look like large-scale paid acquisition either. The traffic is mostly natural store search.

### Ratings: almost all new ones are five stars

In 8 days it picked up 1,076 new ratings, 1,018 of them five-star, while the one-star count stayed at 0. It climbs steadily by 115 to 149 per day. Only 3 of the 7,114 ratings include text. Ratings equal 3.8% of installs, while tools usually run 0.5% to 1%.

The most likely explanation is an in-app prompt: users first pick a star rating inside the app, and only those who choose four or five stars are sent to Play to rate (inference). Google's policy forbids this, but it's common. A version that has never been updated can sit at a 4.5 rating for a long time 1.0, and that score is what holds up its search ranking and whether people install after clicking through.

### Where the money comes from, and how much

Ads only. The main markets are India, Southeast Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe, where ad rates are low. Based on four to five thousand installs a day, monthly revenue is probably a few thousand dollars (estimate, no public figures). Costs are close to zero: one version, no updates, no real website, no customer support.

There's one risk: it can be pulled at any time, and that's how its predecessor went. The common pattern for this kind of developer is to switch accounts and republish after a takedown. Whether it's the same group behind RemRim rests on one piece of evidence so far: identical descriptions (unverified).

Under the word "Vanced," there are at least a dozen same-name packages, and some people are running whole batches from a single account. This one ranks high right now only because the name matches, the score is high, and it hasn't been pulled yet. None of those three holds up over time.

### If it were you

**Verdict: C.** Building a package like this one isn't worth it. What you can take from it is a method: once a brand gets taken down, its name turns into a search term nobody owns, and the few weeks after the top clone gets pulled are the window to grab that spot.

**Who it fits:** teams already running an Android tool portfolio, with several developer accounts, who can live with the "build for a few months, get pulled, switch accounts" rhythm. For them this is just another keyword.

**Who it doesn't fit:** indie devs who want a long-term product, want to build a brand, or have only one developer account. Here, one account ban wipes everything. It's also not for anyone trying to go head-to-head with Pure Tuber's tier: those already have hundreds of millions of installs and a brand.

**How to do it (if you do):** Stop riding Vanced. That name is already crowded, and Google is watching it. Find the next name that was taken down by the platform but still gets searched: a well-known tool that got pulled, a modded app that stopped updating, an app that left a country. Watch takedown records on sites like AppBrain, and list a new app as soon as a top competitor is removed. Make the features real, like background playback and offline music, and earn ratings from real reviews, not a popup that only sends five-star reviews to the store. That lowers the odds of a takedown and helps the app last longer.

**How to get users:** store search. Put the terms people actually search for into the package name, title, and the first two lines of the description. TikTok in Southeast Asia, Latin America, and India has steady tutorial content like this, so you could partner with those creators to say "search this on Play" outright (inference: it didn't do that itself).

**When the window is:** these windows are measured in weeks. Launch within a month after the top player for the same term is taken down.

**Signs you read it wrong:** ① It gets taken down before end of November, or install growth stalls. That means Google cleans up this term faster than expected and the window is shorter than estimated. ② Installs keep climbing, pass a million in three months, and it's never taken down. That means the term's traffic is bigger than estimated and the platform is looser, so the C grade underrated it. ③ YouTube or Google launches a much cheaper Premium bundle in emerging markets. Demand for ad-free playback moves to the official product, and volume drops across this category.

Its description matches RemRim's word for word, so it may be the same people re-listing under a new account, or outright copying (unverified).

### 3. Growth tactics

1. **Store search / ASO name-riding (confirmed)** : the package name adsfree.tubevanced.watchfreemovies.mp3mp4video.io crams in ads free, tube, vanced, watch free movies, mp3, mp4, and video; the title is "Vanced Tube - MP3 Media Player"; the description repeats Vanced Player over and over. AppBrain shows it hit #19 on Finland's Video Players "new free" chart. Users searching "vanced", "youtube vanced", or "ad free youtube" see a same-named app with a 4.5 rating and 100k+ installs and install it.

2. **Traffic left behind by delistings (likely)** : RemRim's same-name, same-description app was delisted 2026-07-14, and this one launched 2026-08-11. Revanced - Video & Music was delisted 2026-09-18, and this one's growth picked up in October. One competitor under the same word was cleared out, so the remaining ones split more search volume. People who used to sideload ReVanced are more likely to search "vanced" in the store. This app's October acceleration and its Thailand chart entry fit that, but there is no direct evidence.

5. **TikTok / creators (none found)** : searching "vanced tube" on TikTok turns up only Vanced / ReVanced install tutorials (lots in Vietnamese, Spanish, and Thai regions, some with hundreds of thousands of views). No videos promoting this package turned up. These tutorials keep the demand alive, but they don't send traffic to it directly.

6. **Paid acquisition (none found)** : the Meta, Google, and TikTok ad libraries show no record for it or for Nothing Infotech (those libraries only track listed products, so no result doesn't mean no spend). With only 1,500 installs a month after launch, growing mostly on organic traffic from a single version, large-scale paid acquisition looks unlikely; a bare ad-monetized utility also struggles to pay back paid user acquisition.

7. **X / media (none)** : x-radar shows 0 posts for "vanced tube" in the last 30 days; no media outlet or major account has written about it.

### 4. Where the money comes back from

Pure ads (AdMob-type, with app-ads.txt hosted on an empty Blogspot page). 4–5 thousand installs a day, mainly from India, Southeast Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe, where eCPMs are low. Estimated revenue is in the low thousands of dollars a month (unverified, my own math). Cost is nearly zero: one version, no updates, no real website. The risk is being delisted at any time; same-name predecessor RemRim went that way, and once delisted the developer just re-lists under a new account.

### 5. How many people have seen it

Few people know about it yet: no public revenue, no media or X coverage, no promo videos on TikTok. It only shows up on automated aggregator pages like AppBrain, Similarweb, and APKPure. But the pattern itself is public, and the word "vanced" is already crowded with same-named packages.

### VI. Differentiation

Almost none. Its features (background play, floating window, MP3/MP4, no-ads pitch) are the same as Pure Tuber and GoTube, and its description is word-for-word identical to the delisted RemRim version; the ending line "does not support YouTube downloads" is there to get past review. Its only edge is that **right now it holds the "Vanced Tube" name, has a 4.5 rating, and hasn't been delisted** . That's why it's showing up, but it isn't a differentiation you can defend.
