An "AI outfit-change" camera hit 1.27M installs in 99 days: anyone can build the product, the hard part is the paid-acquisition pipeline behind it
What it is An AI beauty camera on Android that bundles beautification, hair-color changes, AI outfit changes, and AI photo templates that went viral on social media in India, built directly on big-tech models like Nano Banana and GPT image.
Why it took off The product isn't the reason. A Pakistani studio buys installs at scale in cheap markets like India, the Gulf and Africa, adds store keyword optimization, and pays back through ads and the paywall.
CHow you could follow Don't copy the grab-bag. If you're good at ads, build a single-function app (hairstyles, outfits) on big-tech model APIs, test cost per install and payback in India or the Gulf on a small budget, and only add spend and reskin if the numbers work.

On Google Play there's an AI beauty camera called Beauty Camera. It launched in Jul 30, and by Nov 6 had 1.28M cumulative installs, ranking #14 in India's Photography free chart. Tracing the developer email back, the account belongs to Terafort, an app studio in Lahore, Pakistan, which at the same time was promoting an almost identical app. The install spikes of both apps line up on the same days. Below: what it is, where the installs come from, where the money comes from, and whether you should follow.
A one-star review with 337 likes
On Sep 13, Indian user Anurag Katiyar gave it one star on Play:
"It says it can change your clothes (that's the main feature), then asks you to get Pro. Without Pro you can only tweak body shape and hair color, nothing else."
By Nov 6, this review had 337 "helpful" votes, making it the most prominent one under the app. Another one-star review from Oct 12 says: "I gave it a photo to turn around, and it replaced the whole person with a fake one."
Right beneath these two is a five-star review written entirely in fancy Unicode lettering: "𝕀𝕥 𝕚𝕤 𝕤𝕠𝕠 𝕘𝕠𝕠𝕕 𝕒𝕡𝕡……𝕡𝕝𝕖𝕒𝕤𝕖 install this app", with 87 likes. The developer replied on Oct 19: "Thanks for recommending it to others!" Whether this review is from a real user or an insider has not been verified.
Together, these three reviews are almost the whole story of this app: "AI outfit change" pulls people in on the homepage, the paywall blocks the door, and real user ratings are mediocre. Yet it still gets two or three hundred thousand installs a day.
What it is
On Google Play the India listing is "AI Photo Editor: Beauty Camera" and the US listing is "Beauty Camera: AI Photo Editor", with the developer named Nubivio Apps. The package name ai.photo.video.hdcamera.selfie.beauty.cam is itself a string of search keywords.
The feature list is a grab bag: HD camera, hair color change, AI makeup, image enhancer, background removal, AI outfit change, aging filter, plus Chibi, cartoon, couple photo, "80s era" portraits, and "AI baby" templates that have gone viral on social media in India. The US store description openly says it runs on Google's Nano Banana, OpenAI's GPT image and PixVerse. So it has no model of its own, just a template layer and a paywall wrapped around big-company APIs.
Two revenue legs: ads, plus in-app purchases priced at $4.99–14.99 each (Play store page, 11-06).
How big the traffic is and where it comes from
| Date | Total installs | New | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10-29 | 1,054,543 | – | 484 |
| 10-31 | 1,137,758 | +83,215 | 529 |
| 11-03 | 1,229,728 | +91,970 | 598 |
| 11-05 | 1,277,008 | +25,916 | 642 |
| 11-06 | 1,277,008 | 0 | 657 |
Google Play installs, 10-29 to 11-06. Play updates install counts every few days; averaged over 8 days, that's about 28k a day.
Three signs most of these installs were bought rather than earned organically:
- Too few ratings. Normally you get one rating for every 1,944 installs; here it's 1 rating from 8 new installs over 220 days, roughly 173k installs. Organic utility apps usually run about one rating per few hundred installs. Beautix, a rival AI hairstyle app over the same period, gets one per 346 installs.
- Charting only in cheap countries. 11-06 It appears on the photography charts in 9 countries: India #14, UAE 63, Saudi Arabia 74, Nigeria 82, South Africa 88, Philippines 103, Malaysia 122, Turkey 161, Thailand 188. Not one US or European store. All markets where cost per install is low.
- Jumping in sync with its sibling app. Another app from the same company, Picsgen – AI Photo Editor (launched Jul 21, 1.2M installs), added 10-31 installs on 84,539 and 11-03 on 90,090; this app added 83,215 and 91,970 on those same two days. Looks like one acquisition account pushing two apps at once.
Which ad platform was used and how much was spent can't be found from outside, so "paid acquisition" is an inference, but a fairly confident one.
The rest is store optimization: titles, package names and descriptions swapped by region and stuffed with "AI photo editor", "beauty camera", "AI hairstyle", "80s trend", "AI baby". The developer email prefix is literally asoappsvariety, ASO being app store optimization. Searching TikTok and X for the app or the company behind it turns up nothing: no creators, no content.
Who's behind it
The Play page lists the developer as URBANBAY RETAIL LLC, address Glen Burnie, Maryland, but the phone number is a Pakistani +92 number. The developer email for another app on the same account is [email protected]; Picsgen's email is [email protected], and its website is simply terafort.com.
Terafort is based in Lahore. Its website calls itself "the go-to for game publishing in Pakistan," and LinkedIn has job postings like "Head of Android App Development & Growth." Following the terafort email domain turns up a whole set of accounts: TF Incredible Apps (voice changer), Funverse IEG, Crownforge Games, EVERON Playworks, Terafort IEG (a motorcycle racing game, 13M installs).
The Nubivio website, nuvibioapps.com, is an empty template with stock images, and its terms of service name the product as the "Voice Changer App". The legal text was copied straight from a voice changer app in the same group.
So the real identity of this app is: a Pakistani studio with a dedicated growth team, opening new US LLC accounts, mass-producing the same app, and adding budget to whichever one runs. It took off because of that machine, not because of the product.
Where the money comes from
On India's photography grossing chart, it went from #10-29 to #31,11-06 in 23 days, which shows people do pay for the paywall. But ranking #23 in India is not a high bar, and revenue is likely small. There are no public figures.
The likely math for an app like this (inference): buy installs for a few cents each in India, the Gulf and Africa; climb the category chart and pick up some organic traffic; most users don't pay, so ad income covers acquisition cost; a minority hooked on "AI outfit change" pay for in-app purchases starting at $4.99, and that part is the profit. Gulf countries (UAE, Saudi Arabia) clearly have higher paying power than India, and it charted there too.
Who it's competing with
The photography category is crowded: 2026 photo apps launched since May 500 that have passed 49k installs, totaling 159M installs with 5.25M new this week (Google Play, 11-06).
| Competitors | Scale (11-06) | Compared with alternatives |
|---|---|---|
| B612, FaceApp, Picsart, Remini | 480M–1.45B installs, top 15 on India's photography grossing chart | Veteran big players with in-house algorithms and brands |
| AI Photo Beauty Editor Studio(ATQ - AI Lab) | 2.97M, 7 days +810k | Same route, bigger paid acquisition |
| Beautix - AI Hair Changer(Growly) | 2.53M installs, rating 7,299 | Hairstyle only, clearly more organic users |
| Tressy: AI Hairstyle Try On | 500k, +390k in 7 days | Hairstyle only, took off quickly |
| Refoto, Mivora, Shots and other AI template apps | 2.55M–24.6M | Leaders of the template route, much bigger than this one |
| Picsgen (same company) | 1.2M, 7 days +208k | Sibling app |
| Gemini and ChatGPT's built-in image features | Top players | This app uses these same models, and users can go straight to the originals |
It's a follower too, not an original. Functionally it's no different from dozens of similar apps.
If it were you
C. You can learn a playbook here, but copying this app isn't worth it. This is a paid-acquisition business, not an AI business. The winners are studios with ready-made ad teams that can run ten accounts at once to see which one sticks. A solo developer copying a "beauty + AI template" app is pricing against 49 similar apps and a crowd of Pakistani and Vietnamese studios.
Who it suits: small teams already building Android utilities, who have bought Google App campaigns or Meta app ads, know their cost per install and ad revenue per user, and have several developer accounts and can accept dropping an app that doesn't work.
Who it doesn't suit: people who only code and haven't run ads; anyone counting on organic traffic and word of mouth (reviews carry little weight in this category, and the most prominent positive review on this app is a suspicious fancy-font comment); anyone aiming to sell subscriptions in Western markets (that's Remini, Picsart and the big players' native features).
How to build it: don't make a grab bag. Do what Tressy and Beautix do: one feature that makes people tap (hairstyle swap, outfit swap, wedding dress), calling Nano Banana or GPT image APIs underneath, built in a week or two. Put the paywall after the result, not before: this app's top-voted negative review is exactly about finding out you have to pay after tapping.
How to acquire users: start with small budgets in a cheap market (India, or the higher-paying UAE and Saudi Arabia) and measure three things: cost per install, day-one ad revenue, and paid conversion. Once ad income covers acquisition and in-app purchases are in surplus, add budget and launch reskinned versions. Swap store titles and descriptions by country and load them with the template keywords trending on social media in India right now.
Timing: there's no hard deadline, but the window follows template trends. A viral photo format in India usually peaks for a few weeks. And once big companies build the same features straight into Gemini and ChatGPT for free, the value of this kind of wrapper shrinks fast.
Signs you've misread this: ① this app and Picsgen stop climbing and drop off India's charts in the coming weeks, which would mean even established studios can't make the numbers work; ② conversely, if it starts charting in the US, UK or Germany, that suggests the playbook can pay off in high-price markets and is worth revisiting; ③ single-feature apps with mostly organic users, like Beautix, keep growing fast, which would mean "doing one thing well" has more room than "mass grab bags", and that's the path small teams should take.

How Beauty Camera: AI Photo Editor (Nubivio Apps) got this far
- Channel: Google Play, package name
ai.photo.video.hdcamera.selfie.beauty.cam - The store title differs by region: the US store lists it as "Beauty Camera :AI Photo Editor", the India store as "AI Photo Editor: Beauty Camera" (India chart title from the googleplay library's v_chart data; Play India page scraped 2026-11-06)
- Launched 2026-07-30, first review 2026-08-22 (googleplay library

Bottom line
It isn't the product that's driving this. It's a shell brand under the Terafort app studio system in Lahore, Pakistan, with a US LLC on paper. It targets low-cost traffic markets in India, the Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia with an "AI beauty + viral AI template" tool. The team pushes installs with paid acquisition and store keyword optimization, then earns back the spend through ads and in-app purchases of $4.99–14.99. The product itself has no real differentiation, and the same team is mass-cloning the same app at the same time.

- About 8k new installs in 222 days, roughly 28k per day; around 99 days since launch, 1.28M cumulative.
- Ratings are extremely low: there is only 1 rating for every 1,944 installs overall, and over these 8 days only 1 new ratings for roughly every 1,290 new installs. Organically grown utility apps usually get one rating per few hundred installs. The database also holds just 1 written reviews. This is typical of an app whose installs are mostly paid traffic (ads for low-price-region App Store installs). Inference, not directly verified.
- Charts (2026-11-06): India Photography Top Free #14, India Photography Top Grossing #23 (it was #31 at 10-29, climbing); UAE #63, Saudi Arabia #74, Nigeria #82, South Africa #88, Philippines #103, Malaysia #122, Turkey #161, Thailand #188. Not a single US or European store, all low-CPI (cost per install) markets.
- Monetization: "contains ads" plus in-app purchases of $4.99–$14.99 (
app_snap.ad_supported = True,iap_range). Being #23 on India's Top Grossing shows in-app revenue is real, but the amounts are modest. - Frequent updates: 1.1.13 → 1.1.15,10-27, 11-03, one update each.
2. Who's behind it: shell brands of the Terafort system
- Another app under the same developer account, "AI Photo: Magic Editor pro" (launched 2026-08-28, 108k installs), has the developer email [email protected] (googleplay library
app.developer_email). - Another developer account, AppsVariety Digital, publishes "Picsgen – AI Photo Editor" with developer email [email protected], website terafort.com, launched 2026-07-21. It launched around the same time and is at the same scale (1.2M, +208k in 7 days), and its install spikes fall on exactly the same days: 10-31 +84,539, 11-03 +90,090 (this app saw +83,215 and +91,970). It looks like the same acquisition and operations machine is pushing two similar apps at once.
- Other Terafort shells: TF Incredible Apps (Voice Changer, email [email protected]), Funverse IEG, Crownforge Games, EVERON Playworks, Terafort IEG (MRM Bike Racing, 13M installs) (googleplay library, matched by terafort email or domain).
- Terafort's website describes itself as "the first choice for game publishing in Pakistan," based in Lahore (terafort.com, LinkedIn). A LinkedIn listing for "Head of Development & Growth – Android Apps" suggests the company has a dedicated growth team.
- Developer info on the Play page: URBANBAY RETAIL LLC, address Glen Burnie, Maryland, with a +92 (Pakistan) phone number (Play India page 2026-11-06). A US LLC as the front with the team in Pakistan is a common setup for Pakistani utility-app studios.
- The website nuvibioapps.com is an empty template page with images from Unsplash. The terms of service describe a "Voice Changer App" and the privacy policy describes "Voice Changer - Audio Effects" (Jina search snippets). The legal text was copied straight from a voice changer app in the same group.
- An old AppBrain snapshot shows Nubivio Apps with "8 apps, active since 2026, about 400k installs in total" (Jina search snippet, outdated data). This is a newly opened account that has been spreading out multiple apps.
3. Competitors
The photography category is very crowded. In the googleplay library, there are 49 PHOTOGRAPHY apps launched after 2026-05 that already have over 500k installs, totaling 159M installs, with 5.25M new in 7 days.
| Competitors | Platform | Launched | Scale (googleplay library 11-06) | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BeautyCam (Meitu) | Android / iOS | Long-established | Big brands | Native beauty algorithms and strong brand recognition; this app is just a wrapper |
| B612(SNOW) | Android / iOS | 2014 | 874M installs, #14 on India's photography grossing chart | In-house filters and camera, big brand |
| FaceApp | Android / iOS | 2017 | 587M installs, #11 on India's photography grossing chart | Early pioneer of AI aging / hairstyle changes |
| Picsart / Remini / Lightroom | Android / iOS | Long-established | 480M–1.45B installs | Full-featured major player, top 7 on India's Top Grossing |
| AI Photo Beauty Editor Studio(ATQ - AI Lab) | Android | 2026-03 | 2.97M, 7 days +810k | New account in the same category, with more aggressive acquisition |
| Tressy: AI Hairstyle Try On(SPN Studio) | Android | 2026-03 | 500k, +390k in 7 days | Focused only on AI hairstyles |
| Beautix - AI Hair Changer(Growly) | Android | 2026-06 | 2.53M installs, rating 7,299 | Every 346 installs yields 1 ratings, and organic users make up a clearly higher share |
| Picsgen(AppsVariety Digital / Terafort) | Android | 2026-07-21 | 1.2M, 7 days +208k | Sister account of the same company, template-style AI image generation |
| AI template apps like Refoto / Mivora / Shots / AI Art Magic | Android | 2025-12 to 2026-08 | 2.55M–24.6M | Leader in the viral AI template lane, much larger in scale |
| Google Gemini (Nano Banana), ChatGPT image generation | Big-company features | From ¥2025 | Top players | This app's own description states it runs on Nano Banana, GPT image and PixVerse, essentially putting a template shell over big-tech models |
4. Growth tactics
- Paid acquisition (inferred, strong): three pieces of evidence. First, the rating-to-install ratio is about 1:1,900; second, it only charts in low-CPI markets like India, the Gulf, Africa and Southeast Asia; third, it spikes on the same days as its sister app Picsgen. Our Meta, Google and TikTok ad libraries don't track these package names (not on the watch list), so there are no direct ad records. That doesn't mean they didn't spend.
- Store optimization (ASO) (confirmed): titles changed by region; package name stuffed with keywords (ai.photo.video.hdcamera.selfie.beauty.cam); description packed with search terms like AI photo editor, beauty camera, AI hairstyle, 80s trend, AI baby, couple photo. The developer email prefix is literally "asoappsvariety."
- Riding big-tech models (confirmed): the description explicitly names "Google's Nano Banana, OpenAI GPT image, PixVerse," borrowing the heat of the large models.
- Riding viral templates (confirmed): Chibi, Cartoon, Couple, 80s portrait, AI baby. These are AI photo trends that repeatedly went viral on Indian social media over the past 2025–26 years.
- Content and creators (none found): searching Nubivio on TikTok only returns unrelated Nuvio player content; on X (x-radar, last 30 days), searches for both Nubivio and Terafort returned 0 posts each.
- Review replies: the developer replies to negative reviews as a routine. One five-star review written entirely in fancy fonts, pleading "please install this app," has 86 likes; authenticity not verified.
5. Retention and word of mouth
- The most useful negative reviews in India (336 people liked them): "The main outfit-change feature costs money; without paying you can only change body shape and hair color." Another: "The face swap replaced the whole person, it's all fake."
- The store shows a 4.3 rating. Users pay because the homepage hooks them with "AI outfit changes and hairstyles," then a paywall stops them. Repeat purchase and retention are unclear.
6. Differentiation
Functionally there's almost no differentiation. It's a bundle of "beauty camera + AI templates": HD camera, hair color change, AI makeup, image enhancement, background removal, AI outfit change, aging, viral templates, collages. Dozens of similar apps have all of these. The real difference is organizational: behind it is a mature pipeline of "multiple shell accounts × identical apps × paid acquisition in low-cost markets × ads plus IAP monetization." Two nearly identical apps (this one and Picsgen) can both reach the millions. What makes it work is this distribution capability, not the product.
7. Visibility and copycats
- No public revenue figures, no press coverage, and no discussion on X or TikTok. It's still "relatively unknown." But the category itself is a red ocean: in the 2026 months since May alone, there are 500 photography apps past 49k installs.
- Copycats: the same company is copying itself (Picsgen, AI Photo: Magic Editor pro); ATQ - AI Lab, SPN Studio, Growly and others are mass-producing along the same path. This app is itself a copycat, not an original.
8. Takeaways
- The underlying models are big-tech APIs (Nano Banana, GPT image, PixVerse), with only templates and the paywall built on top, so development cost is extremely low.
- Use low-CPI markets (India, the Gulf, Africa) to push installs and chart positions for new accounts, use ad revenue as a floor, and let in-app purchases contribute the profit.
- Spread account risk across a matrix of shell accounts, and run A/B tests by reskinning the same code.
9. Uncertain
- No direct evidence of the channels or spend; paid acquisition is inferred from the rating-to-install ratio and the synchronized spikes.
- Revenue scale is unclear (the bar for #23 on India's Top Grossing isn't high).
- Whether positive reviews were incentivized or fake was not verified.
- It's not confirmed whether Terafort opened these accounts directly or whether a subsidiary or partner team did (the email domain is terafort.org).
