"Every model it lists is fake": how Zenda hit 130k installs

What it is A standard AI chat wrapper app: chat Q&A, a range of specialized assistants, text-to-image, photo questions. It earns from app-open and interstitial ads and is one of ten apps a Vietnamese app factory is rolling out at the same time.

Why it took off It didn't really take off organically. Two Meta Pages with only a few dozen likes were running 400+ video ads at once. On the day 24 new ads launched in Nov 2, installs jumped by 46k. Traffic was poured into cheap countries like Nigeria and India to push it up the category charts, and there was no discussion on TikTok or X.

DHow you could follow it We don't recommend following this category. If you want to learn from it, learn the method, not the category: pick a specific use case that big players don't cover for free, test several small skins under one entity, use Meta's automated targeting with a small budget in cheap countries, and keep whatever pays back quickly.

D grade: AI chat wrappers are already packed. Above them are free big-company apps, in the middle are older skins earning from subscriptions, and below them new skins launch every month. Zenda's success comes from one company's multi-app ad-buying pipeline, not from the product, so indie developers can't replicate it and there's no gap to fill. Few people know about it yet

A small Hanoi company put an entirely ordinary AI chat app on Google Play. Six weeks after launch it had 130k installs, reached the top free productivity charts in 20 countries, and on one day alone brought in 46k installs. This wasn't because the product was good. Behind it, someone was running more than four hundred video ads on Meta at the same time. This piece covers what it is, where the traffic and money come from, who it's competing with, and why we don't recommend following it.

A review from Oct 4

Zenda: AI Chat Bot Assistant 9 月 22 日上架。第 12 天,10 月 4 日,一位叫 Oussama Meziane 的用户在商店页留了一句:「Fake app, full of fake AI models. they are listing gpt 6 astra and fable and bunch of other top models. they are all fake」(假 App,一堆假模型。它列着 gpt 6 astra、fable,还有一串顶级模型的名字,全是假的)。到 11 月 6 日,这是它商店页上被点「有用」最多的一条,20 人。

A month later, on Nov 3, an Indian user named Mani Raju Morusupalli wrote about something else: "when I installed it and tried to open it this ad was running," and "worthless as like other insta ads" (like the ads on Instagram promoting apps).

The "insta ads" he mentions are exactly where this app came from.

What it is

A standard AI chat wrapper. The features in the store description are nearly identical to the top fifty results for "AI chat" on Google Play: chat Q&A, various "specialized assistants" (writing, coding, fitness, study), text-to-image, photo questions, search, article summaries. The last line reads "Zenda is an independent app and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any third-party AI provider," followed by "Some features may require a subscription."

But the store listing shows no in-app purchases, only "Contains ads." So as of Nov 6 at least, it was earning mainly from ads. Subscriptions are either not live yet or well hidden (unverified).

The curve jumped up in steps rather than growing slowly. On one day alone, 11-02 installs came in, more than it got in its whole first month combined.

Where users came from: Meta paid acquisition, and the timing matches

In the Meta Ad Library, two Pages with ads linking to the Zenda store listing appear:

PageLikesRunning nowTotal ads on record
Zenda AI - Your AI Chatbot21367991
Zenda AI Chatbot3954140

(Meta Ad Library, 11-04)

Double-digit likes, hundreds of ads running: this is the classic look of a paid-acquisition-only small app, where the Page has no real audience and exists only to run ads. The more than one hundred ads we reviewed were all vertical videos with "Install" buttons, placed across Facebook, Instagram, Audience Network and Threads, which is Meta's default automated placement setting.

The dates line up: Oct 21 saw 37 new listings, Oct 30 saw 38, Nov 2 saw 24. Nov 2 is exactly the day installs hit +46,475.

One small detail: the earliest ads launched on Oct 15 used the same Page, but at the time it was named "Yolo Fitness - Your AI Trainer," a different lazy-fitness app from the same company. It looks like a Page that had run ads for another app was renamed and reused (inference).

Nothing but paid acquisition. Search "Zenda AI" on TikTok and you get Zendaya; nobody has mentioned it on X in 30 days; the only places it shows up are APK download sites and app aggregator pages. Whether it runs Google app ads: couldn't find out.

Who's behind it: a Hanoi factory running ten apps at once

The developer is STARVIA COMPANY LIMITED. Its site starvia.ai calls itself an "AI Software Studio", and public records put the HQ in Hanoi with 11–50 staff. Every one of its apps was published between August and October 2026. At least ten are on Google Play, adding up to roughly 2.65M installs:

  • Amora AI roleplay, about 830k
  • Battery Emoji Buddies, about 780k, charted #6 in Vietnam's personalization category
  • Yolo Fitness lazy workouts, about 670k
  • Zenda, 130k
  • Plus AI photo editing, AI image generation, sleep, beauty filters, English learning, short drama, and more

Several of these apps use developer emails on the growly.life domain, belonging to another Hanoi app company founded in 2025 that advertises "Powering millions of devices". One company, multiple legal entities, a copy of every hot category, a few new Pages per app for paid acquisition, ad monetization. This is a very common playbook among Vietnamese going-global teams. The company's Facebook page has only 206 followers yet shows "84,341 talking about this", and that engagement is paid.

So Zenda isn't a single product story. It's one station on an assembly line.

Where the money comes from

Interstitial and banner ads. Cheap countries (Nigeria, India) drive volume and push the category chart, while high-CPM countries (Germany, UK, Netherlands) lift revenue. The math is: how much does one install cost, and how many ads can a user see before uninstalling?

Whether it made money is unclear. After 11-04, daily installs fell from 46k to about 6 thousand. That could mean the budget was cut after testing payback, or just a gap in the data (unverified). Negative reviews calling it "fake models" and "ads the moment you open it" suggest it never tried to keep users with the product; it only needed them to see a few ads.

Who it's competing with

(Google Play,11-06)

Zenda's 93k weekly new installs put it around the twenties in this category. It isn't the one being copied; it's a copy too, and new clones keep appearing every month.

If it were you

Verdict (D): Know it exists, don't follow it. AI chat wrappers are already crowded: free ChatGPT, Gemini, and DeepSeek sit on top, a middle tier of older wrappers already earns from subscriptions, and new ones launch every month. Zenda got traction through one company's paid acquisition pipeline, not through the product, so there's nothing here you can copy.

Who it suits: Teams that already have an overseas paid acquisition pipeline: they can produce video creatives in batches, have dozens of Pages and ad accounts to spend through, and know exactly what each country's install cost and ad revenue look like. For them Zenda is a benchmark: add another wrapper and another set of creatives, scale what works, swap the wrapper when it doesn't.

Who it doesn't suit: Indie developers and small teams. There's no organic traffic here (no discussion on TikTok or X), no content spread. The game is how many creatives you can run at once and how much tuition you can absorb, and the competitor is a factory running ten apps.

How to do it (if you still want to): Don't build another general-purpose "chat about anything" wrapper. What's worth learning is the method, not the category. Pick a specific use case that big players don't yet give away for free (say, exam question help for one country, or homework tutoring for one language). Run several small wrappers under one entity and keep whichever pays back fastest. Don't copy its habit of listing model names that don't exist. That's where the top-voted negative reviews come from, and it invites store takedowns.

How to acquire users: Meta automated app install ads across all placements, vertical video. Start with cheap countries like Nigeria and India to push the category chart and install base, then shift to high-CPM countries. Make lots of creatives, dozens per batch, and check daily which ones hold.

When to get in: There's no window. Big companies' free apps get stronger every quarter, and the room for generic chat wrappers keeps shrinking.

How you'd know you've misread it: (1) After Zenda stops paid spend (Meta active ads drop to single digits), installs still rise by thousands a day, which would mean it has organic retention and the wrapper has word-of-mouth room. (2) Zenda, or the same-period SHI & COMPANY app, hits any country's Top Grossing chart, which would mean this kind of wrapper can collect money through subscriptions, not just ads, and is worth a closer look. (3) The company keeps scaling Zenda (active ads rising from 400), which would mean the ad monetization math works for it.

Data and sources: Google Play store pages and charts (10-28 to 11-06; early launch curves are third-party estimates); review text from the Nigeria store page (11-06); Meta Ad Library, active and historical ad counts for both Pages (11-04) and ad start dates; TikTok and X searches for "Zenda AI" (11-06); developer info from starvia.ai, growly.life, the AppBrain developer page, and public company summaries. Anything marked "inferred" or "unverified" is an inference.

Why Zenda: AI Chat Bot Assistant (ai.starvia.zenda) got this far

Bottom line: Zenda wasn't built by a product; it was bought. It's one of ten apps batch-launched by a Hanoi app factory (STARVIA COMPANY LIMITED, the same people behind Growly Limited). It uses the most basic "AI chat wrapper" template and runs a heavy volume of video install ads on Meta (Facebook / Instagram / Audience Network) through two Pages with only a few dozen likes each. The volume goes into cheap countries like Nigeria, India, and Turkey, then high-CPM countries like Germany, UK, and Netherlands carry ad revenue. The steps in the install curve match the spend rhythm. The product itself has no differentiation; the edge is paid acquisition capacity and a multi-app portfolio.

1. Basic data (googleplay library, 2026-10-29 to 11-06)

  • Launched 2026-09-22 (store launch date); category Productivity; version has stayed at 1.0.5; contains ads, no in-app purchases (app_snap.offers_iap = False, ad_supported = True). The store listing says "Some features may require a subscription", but our crawl shows no IAP, so subscriptions may not be live or may be hidden (unverified).
  • Cumulative installs: 10-28 was 38,651,11-06, now 131,785; +93,134 in the last 7 days.
  • Daily step jumps: 11-01 +10,443, 11-02 +46,475, 11-03 +16,990,11-04 through 11-06 for +19,226 over three days (app_day).
  • Curve since launch (AppstoreSpy estimates, app_day_ext): 10-09 about 7 thousand, 10-12 about 14k, 10-18 about 24k, then another step at 10-25 through 10-27 (about +12k), reaching about 39k by 10-28. The curve jumps in steps rather than growing smoothly.
  • Ratings: 727 (10-30) → 2,246 (11-06), adding +120 to +290 per day; ratings per install about 1.7%, a normal range, no sign of rating manipulation.
  • Charts: only on the Productivity Top Free category chart, never overall or Top Grossing. Charted countries went from 10-29 (1) to 11-05 and 11-06 (20); best rank is Nigeria #42 (11-05). India's best is #98 (11-02), Turkey climbed from 179 to 107, Germany 197→144, UK 193→166 (chart_rank).

2. Growth tactics: Meta paid acquisition (confirmed)

metaads library (Facebook ad library scraper, tracked 11-04):

Meta PageLikesRunning nowTotal ads on recordearliest ad we saw
Zenda AI - Your AI Chatbot21 (11-04 snapshot is 18)3679912026-10-15
Zenda AI Chatbot39541402026-10-21
  • The 65 ads we saw are all video, all with CTA INSTALL_MOBILE_APP, all landing on play.google.com/ai.starvia.zenda. Placements are Facebook + Instagram + Audience Network + Threads, i.e. the default all-placements setup of Advantage+ app ads.
  • Likes are only in the double digits while hundreds of ads are running. That's the signature of a "pure paid-acquisition small app," as the metaads docs put it.
  • The timing lines up: the ads we saw started running 10-15, and the AppstoreSpy curve steps up from 10-25 to 10-27. 10-30 brought a new batch of creatives. On 11-02, about 25 new video ads started in one day (metaads ad table), and Play installs rose +46,475 that same day, the biggest day in the whole dataset.
  • Countries: ads are aggregated with country=ALL, so the exact target countries aren't available. The charting countries include low-price markets (ng, in, tr, th, my, sa, ae) and high-price ones (de, gb, nl, fr, it, es, pl). It looks like a global spray.
  • This app's advertisers don't appear in the Google Ads or TikTok ad libraries (googleads / tiktokads: no results; they aren't on those trackers, so no result doesn't mean no spend). Google UAC is the other most common channel for apps like this, unverified.
  • Organic channels: X (x-radar found 0 posts for "Zenda AI" in the last 30 days), media, and Reddit show no discussion. Searchable results are only auto-aggregator pages: APK sites, AppBrain, and CNET download pages.

3. The company behind it: a Vietnamese app factory

  • STARVIA COMPANY LIMITED: its site starvia.ai calls itself an "AI Software Studio". LinkedIn-type pages list headquarters in Hà Nội and a headcount of 11-50 (from Jina search snippets). AppBrain shows it started publishing apps only 2026 years ago, with 10 on Google Play and roughly 800k downloads combined (per the AppBrain page).
  • Our database lists 10 apps under Starvia totaling about 2.65M installs (developer table). All were published between 2026-08 and October: Amora AI role-play (826k), Battery Emoji Buddies (782k, #6 in Vietnam's personalization chart), Yolo Fitness lazy workouts (670k), Zenda (132k), PixGen photo editing (113k), Pictora AI image generation (83k), Sleepzy sleep, Glowy beauty filters, Talkie English learning, and Home Workout. The store listings also include Lingua, SnipFlix short dramas, and baby photo albums.
  • Several apps use the developer emails [email protected] and [email protected]. That matches Growly Limited in Hanoi (growly.life, "AI-powered apps… Powering millions of devices", founded 2025), so it's the same team or a related company. This is the common Vietnamese playbook: multiple entities, many apps, covering every popular category, then paid acquisition plus ad monetization.
  • Starvia's Facebook Page, "Starvia: AI Product", has only 206 followers but shows "84,341 talking about this". That engagement is driven by ads, not organic followers (from Jina search snippet).

4. Competitors (similar apps on Google Play, googleplay library 11-06)

A huge number of apps do the same thing. Zenda is small among them:

ProductChannelLaunchedScale (cumulative / last 7 days)How it differs from Zenda

AI Chat - Ask AI Chatbot(SHI & COMPANY)Android2026-10-13162k / +98k3 weeks behind Zenda, nearly the same scale, same playbook

Bottom line: this category is already crowded. There are official big-tech apps and established reskins already earning through subscriptions, and new reskins keep appearing every month. Zenda added +93k in 7 days, which ranks roughly #20 among this category's gains over the last 7 days.

5. Differentiation

  • Features (Q&A, writing, assistant templates, text-to-image, photo recognition) are identical to this kind of reskin. The "chat + image generation + camera recognition" that the CNET download page describes is standard.
  • One store review with 20 people marking it helpful: "Fake app, full of fake AI models. they are listing gpt 6 astra and fable…they are all fake". In other words, it lists a bunch of nonexistent or unlicensed model names in its model picker as selling points. Another review says ads pop up as soon as you open it (Play listing, ng store, read via Jina 11-06).
  • So the differentiation isn't the product. It's distribution: lots of creatives (hundreds of video ads running at once), multiple Pages, global geo spread, plus one company's experience running ten apps on shared paid acquisition and monetization. That really is why it grew, but that capability can't be copied from the product.

6. Where the money comes from

  • No in-app purchase records; contains ads. Monetization is mainly interstitial and app-open ads through something like AdMob (reviews mention ads right on opening). The description leaves room for subscriptions, so a subscription wall may come later.
  • The play is paid acquisition → ad monetization arbitrage: low-CPI countries (Nigeria, India) bring volume, while countries like Germany and the UK push up eCPM. There's no evidence it actually makes money. 11-04 Installs later slowed from 46k a day to about 6k a day, which may mean the budget was cut after testing ROI (unverified).

7. Visibility and copycats

  • Visibility: almost nobody knows about it yet. X has 0 posts, no media coverage, no public revenue. It's only indexed by APK sites and data aggregators.
  • Copycats: no one is copying Zenda specifically. The template itself is copied. Other products doing the same thing in the same window include SHI & COMPANY's "AI Chat - Ask AI Chatbot" (10-13 on the store) and Prop studio's Gene Ask.

8. What to borrow

  • The playbook, step by step: use one company entity to mass-launch apps in hot categories (AI chat, AI photo editing, battery emoji, lazy workouts). Give each app one or two newly created Meta Pages, run hundreds of video creatives on Advantage+ app install ads, spread across countries, use low-price markets first to push chart rank and install counts, then add budget to whichever app's ROI works. The company's real asset is creative production capacity and the acquisition-and-monetization loop, not any single app.
  • For anyone thinking about building an AI chat app, there's no opportunity signal here. The category is crowded, big tech offers it free, and reviews are already calling out "fake models".

9. Uncertain

  • No retention, ARPU, or ROI data. Whether subscriptions have launched is unclear (the description says yes, but our scraped listing shows no in-app purchases).
  • The country breakdown of spend, and whether Google UAC is used.
  • Whether model names like "GPT 6 astra" and "fable" actually connect to other models or are just relabels, and who the backend model provider is.
  • Whether the 11-04 slowdown is due to budget cuts or to the collection interval (11-04 and 11-05 show the same install counts, so the figures are multi-day totals).
  • The storefront (ng) shows 4.8 stars and our details page (us) shows 4.23 stars. The histogram numbers repeat in a regular pattern (e.g. 103/103/0/103), which suggests Play is serving estimated values, so don't take the absolute rating too seriously.
