# 4K installs and it charted in 24 countries' comics charts: Yatoon is FlowGPT turning roleplay into comics, not a small team's hit

**What it is** An AI interactive comic app: you pick an action or type your own line, and the AI draws the next panel on the spot, with the story following you. Themes are mostly fan fiction, romance and suggestive content.

**Why it took off** FlowGPT moved characters and users over from its own community. The web version ran for months first (about 110K desktop visits/mo, 14 min average stay). Then the app went onto Google Play's comics category, which has very low entry barriers, and at over a thousand installs a day it landed on charts in dozens of countries.

**C** **How you could follow it** Don't go head-on with a general platform. Pick one art style, one language (Portuguese, Spanish, Indonesian) or one genre and build a niche AI interactive comic. Use a web version in an existing community to tune retention first, list the app in the low-barrier comics category, and charge a subscription plus per-turn point spending.

C grade: the parent company's community, character library and funding are things followers can't get, and Plotta, the same format, launched three months earlier and is 60× bigger, with higher per-turn image costs. The playbook (web first, low-barrier category, niche genre) is worth learning, but copying the product isn't worth it. Few people know about it yet

Yatoon is an AI interactive comic app: you pick an action or write a line, and the AI draws the next panel on the spot. It hit Google Play in late October, and in early November it charted in the free "comics" lists of 24 countries including Spain, Germany and Mexico, yet its global cumulative installs are only 4,368. Behind it is FlowGPT (now renamed Kaon AI), which raised $60M and owns Emochi. It charts because of the company's existing community, plus the fact that Google Play's comics category is quiet. Below: what it is, where the traffic comes from, how it plans to charge, who is ahead of it, and what you can take away.

### "Want to have lunch together?" "No."

Nov 6, opening yatoon.ai, the second story on the homepage is "Roshidere", adapted from the Japanese light novel "The Girl Next to Me Who Speaks Russian Under Her Breath to Hide Her Embarrassment", with 140K plays. Open it and the first three panels go like this: at dawn, at the school gate, you greet Kujo, the famously cold "princess" of the school: "Good morning, Kujo. Nice and fresh this morning, isn't it?" She only replies "Good morning." You go on: "I'm a second-year, and I've heard a lot about you from your sister. Want to have lunch together?" She says "No." You take out your phone and ask for her number, and she answers: "Sorry, I'm not interested in you."

The rest of the story is up to you: tap the options on screen or type your own line, and the AI draws the next panel accordingly. She remembers what you said earlier.

The same homepage also shows: "Real Heiress: Married to the Mafia" (68.8K), the Pokémon fan work "Random Cute Monster Spirits" (112K), "Fate/stay night: The Unwritten Night" (85.3K), "My Hero Academia RPG" (65K), and a batch of suggestive titles, such as the Naruto fan work "Hinata's NTR" (82K) and "Quiet Classmate's Invitation" (57K). Many story URLs are in Portuguese, Spanish, Indonesian and Russian, and there seem to be many creators working in Latin American languages (inference).

### What it is and who made it

In one sentence: **it turns Character.AI-style text roleplay into comics where a new panel is drawn every turn.** The store page puts it as "Pick an on-screen action, or write your own response. Yatoon uses AI to generate the next part of the comic, and the new panels respond to your choices." Users can play stories others built in the community, or create their own characters, settings and opening scenes and publish them.

The developer is listed as FlowGPT. The company started 2023 years ago with a prompt-sharing community, then built the AI character chat app Emochi: 29.7M installs on Google Play, still up 658K over the last 7 days. In 2026 July the company renamed itself Kaon AI and closed a $60M Series B (led by B Capital, Redpoint Ace, Goodwater and DCM). It told the press Emochi had $45M annualized revenue, 2M DAU and 150 minutes of daily use per person (Variety, 2026-07-08). The CEO said the next step was a "personalized story engine". Yatoon is that engine with pictures added.

Timeline:

- Summer 2026: the web version yatoon.ai launched; by Aug 24 it was already listed in the AI tool directory Toolify;

- 10-19: terms of service last updated, requiring users to be 16+;

- 10-20: listed on Google Play (store date), 10-29 released 1.0.0,11-03 updates to 1.1.0;

- iOS: Yatoon is not yet under the FlowGPT developer name on the US App Store (checked 11-06).

### 4,368 installs, and how it charted in 24 countries

Start with the numbers. Google Play cumulative global installs: 11-01. The listing page also shows 0,11-03 (11-02), 1,643,11-04, 3,311,11-05, 4,368,11-06 unchanged. That's a thousand to seventeen hundred a day.

The charts look busy: from Nov 1 it entered the Comics free chart, peaking at #11-02 in Spain (9), #13–16 in Germany, #14–19 in Mexico, #14 in France, #27–39 in the US, 24 countries in total.

But let's be clear first: **the bar for this category is very low** . 11-06 Spain's comics Top Free #22 "Viñeta" has only 94 installs in total, and #13 is 21,804; the US store's #20 InkRealm has 6,041 in total. Yatoon sits somewhere between #19 and #22 across a dozen-plus countries, which means these small countries' comics charts are basically the same list. So "charted in 24 countries" just means roughly a thousand-plus installs a day worldwide, not that it's actually taking off in any one country.

The clever part is the category choice. Its most direct rival, Plotta, sits in the "Entertainment" category, is 60× Yatoon's size, and its best result was #31 on the UK Entertainment chart. Yatoon went into the comics category, where over a thousand installs a day were enough to appear on charts in dozens of countries, plus a bit of organic traffic from chart placement and search.

### Where users come from

1. **Its own community (confirmed).** The flowgpt.com homepage has a "Try Yatoon" entry. The popular fan, romance and suggestive themes on yatoon.ai are the same kind of content that tops the FlowGPT and Emochi communities, and both users and creators came over from there.

2. **Web first, app later (confirmed).** Per Toolify's estimate, yatoon.ai got about 110K desktop visits per month from 5 to September, with an average stay of 14 min 06 sec and 12.2 pages per visit; visitors were 49% US and 42% India, and 69.5% came direct. An 14-minute average stay is a good signal for a new site with zero promotion. The Android version is that web product extended onto phones.

3. **Display ads (a little seen on web, none seen on the app).** The same estimate says 17% of desktop web traffic came from display ads. Searching Meta and TikTok (Europe) ad libraries for Yatoon, FlowGPT and Emochi turned up no active ads. Not finding them doesn't mean there were none.

4. **Social content (none).** Searching TikTok for "yatoon" returns only unrelated things (Peruvian player Yotún, the Yorozuya character Yato from "Noragami"); in the last 60 days, X posts mentioning "yatoon" or "FlowGPT" numbered 0; no one discusses it on Reddit either.

5. **Store category charts and search (inference).** As noted above, the comics category's low bar means it can land on dozens of countries' charts as soon as it's listed.

### Where the money comes from: not charging yet, but the setup is ready

Google Play currently shows no in-app purchases and no ads, and the rating count is empty. But two signs show that monetization is already designed:

- The Play listing's content rating says "In-App Purchases (Includes Random Items)", meaning **in-app purchases with random items** . Gacha-style items have already been declared to Google (11-06 store page).

- The web terms mention "Gems, Toons and other in-site points and rewards", with ways to earn them and rules for spending them (terms, updated 10-19).

Inference: it will follow Emochi's model, spending points per turn, plus a subscription or gacha. The cost structure here is very different from text chat: Emochi generates a text reply each turn, while Yatoon has to draw an extra image each turn. So it needs to monetize sooner than text companionship does, and it depends more on heavy users.

### Who it's competing with

| Product | Launched | Scale (Google Play installs, 11-06) | How Yatoon differs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plotta: Chat in Comics (Dayfold, Hong Kong) | 2026-07-13 | 260K, last 7 days +80K | Most direct rival: chatting with characters inside comics. Launched three months earlier, 60× bigger, still growing fast |
| Toonly: AI Story & Comic Maker | 2026-03-06 | 92K, growth has largely stalled | A creation tool for choice-based comics built from templates |
| MoboDrama - AI Comic Dramas | 2026-03-04 | 790k | AI comic dramas, view only, no interaction |
| Dashtoon / DashReels | 2023-05 / 2025-01 | 708K / 51.3M | AI-assisted serialized comics and short dramas, not interactive |
| Kumiyo(Kuku FM) | 2026-09-19 | 40k | Turns an idea into a comic, creation-focused |
| Emochi (same company) | 2024-01 | 29.7M | Same characters and plots, but plain text only |
| AI Dungeon / Episode | 2014– | 3.94M / 179M | Text-based AI adventures, or hand-written choice stories |
| WEBTOON's AI character interaction | From ¥2026-04 | Platform 194M | Chat with characters from official IP, without drawing panels live |

In format, several players are already testing "AI interactive comics that draw panels live": Plotta leans toward chat, Yatoon toward choice-driven progression, closer to a comic version of AI Dungeon. The two are not very different, and which format is right is still unsettled. Yatoon isn't the first to do this, and isn't the biggest right now.

### How many people know about it

Almost nobody has heard of the name Yatoon: no media coverage, no discussion on TikTok, X or Reddit. But the "AI character companionship / interactive story" track it sits in is far from quiet: Kaon AI's funding and Emochi's revenue made Variety, and players like Character.AI, Talkie and Emochi already crowd that layer. Not having heard of Yatoon doesn't mean nobody has noticed the opportunity.

### If it were you

**C: worth learning from, but not worth going head-on.** Yatoon charts because of its parent company's community, character library, $60M and scale advantages in model costs, none of which followers can get. In format, Plotta got there three months earlier and is 60× bigger. What's worth taking is a few playbook moves, and the corners big companies don't bother with.

**Who it suits:** teams that already have a roleplay, fan fiction or romance reader community (a Discord server, a fiction site, a particular art-style creator circle) and want to give existing users a visible new way to play; or people who know one art style or genre inside out and can beat generic models on consistency and taste.

**Who it doesn't suit:** people starting from zero who hope the "AI interactive comic" format alone will bring in new users. Every turn needs an image, and without ready-made heavy users, image costs will sink you first. It's also a bad fit for anyone unwilling to deal with content moderation: a large share of this product's plays come from fan fiction and suggestive themes, so copyright complaints and store delistings are risks you carry yourself.

**How to do it:** don't build a big platform that takes every genre. Pick one niche direction: one art style (say Japanese campus or Korean romantic fantasy), one language (Portuguese, Spanish and Indonesian creators have already surfaced on its site, so the demand is real), or one genre (mystery, dating sim), and do two things better than it does: consistent characters across panels and a uniform visual style. Charge the way it does: per-turn points plus a subscription. Heavy users spend a dozen-plus minutes a day and will pay to "keep playing".

**How to get users:** copy its two steps. First, launch a web version, tune retention in your existing community until stays pass ten minutes, then ship the app; second, list the app in the low-barrier category. A thousand installs a day in Google Play's comics category can land you on dozens of countries' charts, far better than fighting for space in Entertainment. Outside your community, the most natural acquisition material is the story itself: post a panel of "I picked A, and she actually replied like this" to TikTok and Reddit fan communities.

**When to move:** before the first half of 2027. Yatoon hasn't started charging or launched on iOS yet. Once it gets points and gacha running and iOS live, and Emochi pushes traffic its way, generic products of the same kind will have a hard time finding space. The window for niche genres and smaller languages may stay open longer.

**What would mean you read it wrong:** ① Yatoon's Play installs have sat at a few thousand since November, and it still hasn't charted even with paid enabled, which would mean users don't buy "draw one panel per turn". Text companionship alone would be enough, and this format itself doesn't hold up. ② Your web users average under half of that (seven minutes), which would mean the niche or art style you picked can't carry it. ③ Conversely, if Plotta and Yatoon both pass one million installs and chart before year-end, that would mark the next stage for companion products, worth a bigger bet. But by then the general category has no room for you, and you'd have to go vertical.

## Yatoon (ai.yatoon.app, Google Play) research report

> In one line: FlowGPT (now Kaon AI, parent of Emochi) makes AI interactive comics. Players pick an action or write a line, and the AI generates the next comic panel. The web version yatoon.ai has existed since summer 2026, and the Android version launched in late October. Verdict: it charts because, first, it sits behind a big company that raised $60M and owns Emochi ($45M ARR); second, the Google Play Comics chart bar is very low. Scale is still small (4,368 installs globally), so it hasn't really "broken out" yet.

### 1. What the data says

| Metric | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Store launch | 2026-10-20 (store date); version 1.0.0 updated 2026-10-29,1.1.0, version 2026-11-03 | googleplay library `app_snap`, 11-06 |
| Cumulative global installs | 11-03 1,643 → 11-04 3,311 → 11-05 4,368 → 11-06 4,368 (11-01/02 the details page also shows 0) | googleplay library `app_day` |
| Daily adds | About 1,000–1,700 per day; AppstoreSpy estimates 11-04, 11-05 528 per day (averaged) | googleplay `app_day`, `app_day_ext` |
| Charts | Only on the COMICS free category chart: enters at 11-01 or better, best at #9 in Spain (11-02) / #10; DE 13–16, MX 14–19, FR 14; US store 27–39 | googleplay `chart_rank`,11-01~11-06 |
| Ratings / IAP / ads | Rating NULL, offers_iap = False, ad_supported = False; paid not yet enabled on Play | googleplay `app_snap` |
| iOS | Yatoon not found under the FlowGPT Co. developer page on the US App Store | apps.apple.com/us/developer/flowgpt-co/id1725760475 |
| Web version | yatoon.ai: Toolify listing date 2026-08-24; 110k monthly visits (2026 5–September, desktop only); average session 14 min 06 sec, 12.2 pages per visit; US 49%, India 42%; traffic sources: direct 69.5%, display ads 17.1%, organic search 7.1%, social 2.2% | toolify.ai/tool/yatoon |
| On-site content | Homepage popular stories have 63k–138k plays, mostly fan adaptations (Roshidere, Naruto, Fate/stay night, Pokémon) and romance / suggestive themes ("The Fake Heiress: Married to the Mafia", NTR) | yatoon.ai homepage, 11-06 |

**The chart bar is very low, and that has to be said first** : 11-06 Spain's COMICS free chart #22 "Viñeta" had only 94 cumulative installs, #13 was 21,804; US #20 InkRealm 6,041. So "charted in 24 countries" only shows that over a thousand installs happen globally per day, and small categories like this share a similar chart across most countries (Yatoon's ranks in a dozen-plus countries sit at 19–22, which is this effect). No evidence it has grown in the core users of any single country.

### 2. Competitors

| Product | Where | Launched | Scale | How Yatoon differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Plotta: Chat in Comics(Dayfold HK) | Android | 2026-07-13 | 260,084 cumulative installs, 7-day +80,174 (googleplay 11-06); AppstoreSpy estimates August 12k → October 22 156k | The most direct rival: positioned as "chatting with characters within a comic setting", its format is chat. Yatoon's format is choices plus newly generated panels. Plotta is three months ahead and 60× Yatoon's size. |
| Toonly: AI Story & Comic Maker(Wiin / minu.ai) | Android + iOS | 2026-03-06 | 92,474 installs, +663 in 7 days | Leans toward creation tools that make choose-your-path comics from templates, and growth has already stalled |
| MoboDrama - AI Comic Dramas(Moboreader) | Android | 2026-03-04 | 789,359 installs, charted #116 in South Africa's Entertainment Top Grossing | AI-generated comic dramas, watch only, no interaction |
| Dashtoon / DashReels(Dashverse) | Android | 2023-05 / 2025-01 | Dashtoon 708k (growth essentially stalled); DashReels 51.3M | AI-assisted serialized comics and short dramas, not interactive |
| Kumiyo(Kuku FM) | Android | 2026-09-19 | 40,363 | Turns ideas into comics, creation-focused |
| MyComics, Manga Studio, Comic Maker - Arcstory, Comikai and other AI comic generators | Android / web | 2024–2026 | 3 thousand to 250k, varies | One-shot comic generation, with no "pick something and the story keeps going" loop |
| Emochi (same company) | Android / iOS | 2024-01 | 29.7M installs, 7-day +658k; company reports $45M ARR, 2M DAU | Same users and same "characters + story" setup. The difference is that Emochi is text chat, while Yatoon turns it into visuals. |
| AI Dungeon, Episode, Euphoria and other interactive story apps | Android / iOS / web | 2014–2025 | AI Dungeon 3.94M, Episode 179M | Text AI adventures, or hand-written choice-based stories, with no live-generated comic panels |
| WEBTOON's AI character chat / interactive stories (byUs, partnered with Genies) | Big-company features | From ¥2026-04 | WEBTOON 194M installs | Character interaction built on licensed IP, without real-time generated comic panels |

Verdict: the "AI-generated, choose-your-path comic" format already has players. Plotta got there three months earlier and is an order of magnitude bigger. Yatoon is not the first.

### 3. Where users come from

1. **Self-sourced traffic (confirmed)** : flowgpt.com's homepage has a "Try Yatoon" entry (Jina search summary of flowgpt.com: "FlowGPT is an open platform… Try Yatoon Trending"). yatoon.ai's trending stories are all fan fiction / romance / borderline-explicit, identical to the community content on FlowGPT and Emochi, which suggests both users and creators came over from the parent community.

2. **Web first, app later (confirmed)** : yatoon.ai was live and indexed before 2026-08, with about 110k desktop monthly visits and 14-minute average sessions (Toolify). The Android app extends the web product to mobile.

3. **Display ads (confirmed on web, not verified for the app)** : Toolify shows 17% of yatoon.ai's desktop traffic coming from DisplayAds. Yatoon / FlowGPT / Emochi advertisers do not show up in our Meta Ad Library or TikTok (Europe) Ad Library. The lists may not have full coverage, so not finding them doesn't mean they aren't running ads.

4. **Social content (none found)** : TikHub searches for "yatoon" return only same-name noise (Peruvian player Yotún, Yato from Noragami); x-radar shows 0 posts mentioning "yatoon" or "FlowGPT" in the last 60 days; no Reddit threads either.

5. **Store organic traffic (speculative)** : the COMICS category has a low bar, so listing alone gets it onto category charts in dozens of countries, where it picks up some organic installs from charts and search.

### 4. Why it charted (strictly speaking, it hasn't broken out yet)

- Resource-backed: Kaon AI (formerly FlowGPT) 2026-07 closed a 60M USD Series B (B Capital, Redpoint Ace, Goodwater, DCM). Emochi hit 45M USD ARR and 2M DAU, with users spending 150 minutes a day on average (Variety, 2026-07-08). At the raise, the CEO said they would build a "personalized story engine". Yatoon is that story engine, turned into visuals.

- Users and content are already in place: FlowGPT's community has lots of characters and fan settings, and a single story on yatoon.ai's homepage has 6–140k plays, which means the web product already has a group of heavy users.

- Good category choice: it sits in COMICS, not ENTERTAINMENT (Plotta is in ENTERTAINMENT, peaking at #31 in the UK at best). With over a thousand installs a day, it reaches the top 25 on the charts of 24 countries.

- Scale: 4,368 total, no ratings, no in-app purchases. It only qualifies as "a new release from a big company just listed," far from "broken out."

### 5. Differentiation

- Compared with Emochi and Character.AI: it turns text role-play into "a new comic panel every turn," where the visuals are the selling point and also the cost (images are generated every turn).

- Compared with Plotta: Yatoon moves the plot forward through choices / typed actions rendered as panels, closer to a visual novel or a comic version of AI Dungeon; Plotta is "chatting inside a comic scene." The difference is small, and both are still testing which format works better.

- Compared with AI comic generators: Yatoon is not a production tool but a consumer product (read and play stories), and it also supports user-generated story creation.

- **Is differentiation why it charted? Not the main reason.** It charted mainly thanks to the parent company's community and brand traffic, plus the low bar of category charts. The product format itself hasn't been validated by the market on its own (a web session length of 14 minutes is a positive signal).

### 6. How many people know about it

- Revenue is not public, and TrustMRR doesn't track it (the company has raised funding). Yatoon itself has no media coverage, with 0 discussions on X and no related videos on TikTok.

- But the parent companies Kaon AI / Emochi have had their revenue and funding widely covered by outlets like Variety. The "AI interactive stories / companionship" space is itself very crowded.

- Verdict: few people know this product yet, but the category it sits in is already packed.

- Copycats: nobody is really copying it. Plotta and Toonly both came earlier, so Yatoon is a fast follower.

### 7. What others can borrow

- Build the web version first, refine content and retention within your own community, then launch the app; pick a low-barrier category (COMICS) at launch to get exposure.

- "AI character role-play + an image every turn" is the next step for Emochi-style products. In terms of themes, fan fiction, romance, and borderline-explicit content drive the most plays (yatoon.ai's homepage is the proof).

- A small team can't realistically compete head-on: big companies have ready-made users, character libraries, and model cost advantages. A more practical route is a vertical theme or a specific art style.

### 8. Still unclear

- Android retention and payment: no IAP yet and no ratings. How the web version charges (subscription or credits) isn't visible.

- Where installs come from: whether it's cross-promotion from its own app / site or paid acquisition, the ad libraries can't tell. Toolify's 17% display-ad share only covers desktop web.

- Whether and when an iOS version will ship.

- 11-06 installs flat (4,368): this could be collection lag or growth stalling; a few more days of data are needed.
