# A small Taranto company pushed Italian EV charging down to €0,37, and a reader letter sent it to #3 in the auto chart

**What it is** A charging app for EV drivers in Italy. One account finds chargers across about 30 charging networks, shows prices including tax, and starts and pays for charging inside the app.

**Why it took off** At launch, limited-time promo prices undercut the carriers' own apps, with €3 for a first top-up and a friend referral code. Reader letters in Italian EV Facebook groups, the price-comparison app TariffEV, and Vaielettrico spread the word. After the 11-01 article ran, installs jumped from about a hundred a day to about 800.

**C** **How you could follow it** You can't sell electricity, so only copy the playbook: a limited-time launch price, a first top-up reward, and a referral code. Get real users to share screenshots in local EV-owner price-comparison communities, then publish the subscription and price-increase timeline in advance. To truly copy it, you'd need access to roaming platforms, cash to fund subsidies, and a country where local service isn't well served yet.

Grade C: the market is already crowded with carrier apps and established aggregators, and it has no functional edge. It competes on price, which requires roaming platform access and cash subsidies. When subsidies end, average user prices return to about €0,60/kWh. Small teams can learn the acquisition tactics, but copying the whole product isn't worth it. Being talked about in small circles

evvai.app is an EV charging app in Italy. One account finds chargers across about 30 charging networks, shows prices including tax, and starts and pays for charging inside the app. The features match a dozen established players. What it competes on is one number: at Enel and Plenitude AC chargers, the first 150 kWh costs just €0,37, cheaper than those two companies' own apps. The low price spread through Italian EV Facebook groups, price-comparison apps, and niche media. A company registered only three months earlier pushed into the top three of the free auto chart. Below: how it did it, where the money comes from, how it's cashing in now, and whether you can copy it.

### A reader letter

On the afternoon of Nov 1, 2026, Vaielettrico, Italy's largest EV community media outlet, ran a reader letter titled "Segnalo Evvai, app di ricarica molto economica" (I recommend Evvai, a very cheap charging app). The writer was reader Marco Di Paola:

"For now it only operates in Italy, and on the main networks like Eni Plenitude and Enel X the prices are very good… At Enel X, the first 150 kWh on AC costs just 37 cents, and topping up your wallet even gives 3 euros. With 53 euros in the wallet you can charge 143 kWh, which at 15 kWh per 100 km gets you 955 km. A diesel or petrol car costs at least twice as much." The last line reads: "Evvai prices are pay-per-use, and there's currently no subscription."

The editor's reply was restrained: "We don't know much about Evvai, only what's on their website. It's from a company called BAOA in Taranto." This is not a sponsored piece; the page has no "Pubbliredazionale" (advertorial) marker.

On the same day this post went up, its Google Play installs jumped from a hundred-odd a day to about 800 a day (Google Play install count, third-party estimate, 11-01 to 11-02). On Italy's Play Automotive free chart, it sat at #27,11-01 to #11-04 for 10-29 and was still at #3.

The last line Marco wrote is ironic. On the same day, evvai's website was calculating a subscription pricing plan, labeled "calculated on 2026 Nov 1", effective Nov 16.

### What it is and who made it

The first sentence of the store description: "Find a charger, see the price including tax before you plug in, start charging, and pay in the app. No transaction fees, no card required, no commission."

- One account covers about 30 networks and over 60k charge points across Italy: Enel X Way, Plenitude, Ewiva, IONITY, Free To X, and more;

- Each station first shows the per-kWh price including tax, along with any per-minute fees and idle fees, and the price does not change mid-charge;

- Topping up the wallet has no fees, and card, Apple Pay, and balance cost the same; each month you get one electronic invoice compliant with Italy's tax system;

- Italian-language phone support on weekdays from 9 to 18, staffed by real people.

BAOA S.R.L., the company behind it, is based in Taranto. It was only registered in 24 2026, and calls itself an AI software company. The iOS app launched in Oct 2, Android in Oct 7. This company has only this one app in the stores.

### How big it got

The absolute numbers are small, but they're enough to matter in its niche:

| Where | Metric | Date |
|---|---|---|
| Google Play cumulative installs | 855 → 1,230 → 2,806 → 3,919 (est.) | 10-29 → 10-31 → 11-02 → 11-06 |
| Google Play Italy, Automotive free chart | #27 → #7 → #3 (four days running) → #6 | 10-29 → 10-31 → 11-01~04 → 11-06 |
| Established players on the same chart | Price-comparison app TariffEV at #66; Enel On Your Way, Electroverse, NextCharge, and IONITY at #25, #29, #48, #58 in the Maps & Navigation category | 11-06 |
| App Store Italy | 96 ratings, 75 new in the last 7 days | 11-06 |
| Self-reported on the website | 10-25 to 11-01 in one week, customers completed 1.647 charging sessions | evvai.app/pass |

Fewer than 4,000 installs can rank #3 because the bar for Italy's Automotive free chart is low. The line worth paying attention to is the last one: 1,600 charging sessions in one week, which shows people who installed it actually plugged in and paid, not just grabbed 3 euros and left.

### Where users came from: shared in price-comparison groups

Few people drive EVs in Italy, but they love comparing prices and gather in a few specific places. evvai's spread happened almost entirely in these:

- **Facebook 群** :TariffEV 群 10-30 一条帖子「晚上 9 点后 0,39 €/kWh,前 150 kWh 有优惠价,目前最便宜」,36 条评论;「Quelli che viaggiano in elettrico」(开电车出行的人)群 10-20 有人问「300 kW 的桩真的只要 0,57?」,19 条评论。TariffEV 群管理员 10-30 留言「很快和 EVVAI.APP 有个惊喜」,两家在谈合作。

- **Price-comparison app** : A five-star review on Play read "I mostly use EVDC, but I discovered Evvai through TariffEV" (10-30).

- **Niche media** : The reader letter above was later also shared by the Spanish-language site foro3d 11-04.

- **Small YouTube creators** : Andrea Toffolo's "Subscriptions Are Back, and So Is EVVAI | 2026 November" got about 5,600 views; Elettrico Facile had one video hit 156 views (11-05). Unclear whether any of it is paid.

- **Invite codes** : Someone in a Facebook group posted "Get 3 euros, discount on the first 150 kWh! Use my friend code!"; on TikTok, @sbiddo posted "Compare the prices of other apps with the new #evvai, sign up with my code," with about 6,000 views.

Almost all the positive reviews are about price: "ottimi prezzi" (great prices), "imbattibile" (unbeatable), "they delivered on their terms, the money spent matches what they wrote." The only one-star review was from a highway charger that misidentified the connector and cut off after 7 kWh.

There's a quieter thread too: the website has 67 pages. 18 are route pages like "how to charge and how much it costs driving from City A to City B," 13 are model pages, 10 are comparison pages against other apps, plus long-tail queries like "best charging app" and "charging without a subscription." It looks mass-produced with AI (inference), and how much it helps is unclear. I couldn't find whether they run ads.

### Where the money comes from: subsidize first, then harvest with subscriptions

evvai doesn't own a single charger. It plays the role the industry calls an e-MSP: it buys electricity from operators at wholesale rates through roaming platforms, then sells it to drivers at retail, and the spread is the gross margin. The 0,37 euro offer is limited (the first 150 kWh per person), and combined with the 3 euro first-charge bonus, it's clearly subsidizing during the launch period (inference).

Now it's harvesting, and the Pass page on the website spells it out:

| Per-kWh "from" price, tax included | Without Pass | Pass 150 | Pass 300 | Pass 500 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard AC (≤22 kW) | 0,45 | 0,43 | 0,42 | 0,41 |
| Fast DC (≤149 kW) | 0,51 | 0,47 | 0,46 | 0,45 |
| Ultra-fast (≥150 kW) | 0,63 | 0,61 | 0,60 | 0,59 |
| Monthly fee, every 30 days | 0 | 2,99 € | 5,99 € | 9,99 € |

New prices take effect from Nov 16; existing users' terms hold until Nov 9,10, after which they either buy a Pass or pay the new prices.

The math on the page is more interesting: based on the weighted average of the 1,647 real charging sessions at the new prices, charging 150 kWh without a Pass costs 90,44 euros, or about 0,60 euros per kWh on average. With a Pass, the 150 monthly fee saves only 2,62 euros. So 0,37 is the price of the "cheapest networks" in the ads, and what users actually pay on average is already close to the operator's own app (IONITY's app says "from 0,80"). The Pass doesn't save much. Its main job is to get people to pay every month first, which keeps them around (inference).

### Who it's competing with

This is already a crowded market, and evvai overlaps with every one of these:

| Product | What it is | Launched | Scale (cumulative Google Play installs, 11-06) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Enel On Your Way | Italy's largest operator's own app, which also supports roaming | 2018 | 1.1M |
| Plenitude On The Road | Operator's own app, 10-01, pushing subscriptions again | Years ago | Not found |
| Octopus Electroverse | Pan-European aggregator, mainly UK | 2023 | 1.7M |
| NextCharge | Veteran Italian aggregator, most similar in features | 2013 | 600k |
| Chargemap | French aggregator, free tier charges about 10% service fee (per evvai's comparison page) | 2012 | 2.89M |
| IONITY, Electra, Ewiva, and others | Single-network own apps | From ¥2021 | IONITY 1.43M, Electra 680k |
| TariffEV | Price-comparison app plus a 55k-person community; since September you can also start charging inside the app | 2024 | 35k |

Functionally, it has nothing other players don't. It wins on two things: the lowest launch price, which spreads on its own through the price-comparison groups; and "Italian company, Italian phone support, Italian e-invoices," which makes it seem trustworthy among a pile of foreign aggregators, and is also the groundwork for reaching into corporate fleets.

Timing helped too. In the autumn of 2026, Italian electricity prices rose, Plenitude relaunched its subscription in October, and the title of Toffolo's video was literally "The subscription is back." People were sensitive to "cheap without a subscription," and evvai showed up just then.

### If it were you

**C. The approach is worth learning; the product itself isn't worth copying.** evvai proves one thing: in a local market already packed but with opaque pricing, a new player that is genuinely "the cheapest" will get spread by the price-comparison community for you. But it sells electricity, not software: you first have to plug into roaming platforms to get operator wholesale rates, and you need cash to cover subsidies; once the subsidies stop, the average price users pay goes back to the 0,60 tier, and the only differences left are support and invoices.

**Who it suits** : people who understand the charging industry, can already connect to roaming platforms (or know someone who can), have money they're willing to burn on subsidies, and are familiar with a country where local language, local invoicing, and local support are still not done well (Portugal, Poland, Romania, Greece, that kind of country; I haven't checked which, so compare prices yourself first).

**Who it doesn't suit** : pure-software indie devs; people who want to make money from subscription fees or ads (this business's margin lives in the few cents per kWh spread); and anyone who wants to go head-to-head in markets like Italy, France, or the UK, where Electroverse, Chargemap, NextCharge, and the operators' own apps already exist.

**How to do it** : if you only want to learn the approach without selling electricity, take three things: ① a limited launch price ("first 150 kWh"), so early users have something to show off without blowing up your margins; ② a first-charge bonus plus a friend code, so people who share prices naturally bring others along; ③ publish your price increases and subscription timeline upfront, and use a week of real data to show users whether the Pass is worth it. That draws less criticism than raising prices quietly.

**How to acquire users** : first find where drivers compare prices in your market (Facebook groups, price-comparison apps, reader columns in niche media), and let real users post screenshots instead of posting ads yourself; then use AI to fill out route pages ("how much to charge from City A to City B") and model pages to capture search traffic. evvai went from launch to the top of the chart in four weeks; how much it spent on paid acquisition isn't visible.

**When to move** : this playbook isn't time-sensitive, but a market only gets to be "the cheapest" once. evvai's own window was the few weeks after the November 10 price change until 16.

**What would show you read it wrong** : ① if installs and ratings don't drop after evvai's late-November price increase and it stays in the top 10 of the automotive chart, that shows local trust and the experience itself keep people around, the business is better than it looks, and copying it into other countries deserves serious evaluation; ② if the "surprise" with TariffEV becomes a direct integration as the default launch entry in the comparison app, then channel matters more than price, and followers should go negotiate with comparison apps first; ③ if after the price change five-star reviews turn into one-stars and the groups start saying "we were tricked," then the people subsidies brought in aren't staying, and this is a one-off.

## Why evvai.app – Ricarica EV (app.evvai.android) is charting

**In one line** : an Italian public EV charging "aggregator + pay-for-you" app (e-MSP). One account covers about 30 charging networks (Enel X Way, Plenitude, Ewiva, IONITY, Free To X and more) and 60k+ plugs: find a charger, see the price including tax, start the session and pay in the app. Behind it is BAOA S.R.L., a small AI software company in Taranto registered only 2026-07-24 ago.

**Bottom line** : this didn't take off on product novelty. It took off on **price** . At launch it cut Enel/Plenitude AC chargers to 0,37 €/kWh (first 150 kWh), with night rates 0,39 and high-speed 300 kW chargers at 0,57, plus a 3 € first top-up and referral codes. That's far cheaper than the operators' own apps' pay-as-you-go prices (Enel/IONITY apps at 0,6–0,8 €/kWh). Italy's EV circles are small and love comparing prices, so the word spread through TariffEV's Facebook group, "Quelli che viaggiano in elettrico", the TariffEV comparison app, the vertical outlet Vaielettrico and a few YouTubers. Installs hit about 800 a day on November 1–2, pushing it to #3 in the Italian Play auto free chart. Now it's cashing in: from November 16, base prices go up and a "Pass" subscription of 2,99–9,99 € per 30 days is being introduced.

| iOS (Italy) | 96 ratings, +7 in the last 75 days; best auto-category rank #99 | appstore `app_profile` |
| Version | On Play it has always been 1.1.5 | googleplay `app_snap` |
| Play review sample | 12 reviews, 11 of them 5-star; keywords "ottimi prezzi", "imbattibile", "app tutta italiana", "bonus 3€", "150 kWh scontati"; 1 1-star reviews (on highways the connector is misidentified, and a 7 kWh charge cut off) | googleplay `review` |

Note: Play installs are only 3,919, so the absolute numbers are small. It reached #3 because the bar for Italy's auto free chart is low. But the official site publishes a hard figure: **2026-10-25 to 11-01, customers completed 1.647 charging sessions in one week** (evvai.app/pass, "How we calculate"). So people who installed it really are using it and paying.

### 2. Competitors

Italy is already a crowded market. **There is no "no competitor" angle** . evvai does what a dozen others do:

| Product | Form | Launched | Scale (Play cumulative installs, googleplay library 11-06) | How evvai is different |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Enel On Your Way (formerly Enel X Way) | Operator's own network + roaming, the largest in Italy | 2018 | 1,101,846 | evvai's prices on Enel's own chargers are actually lower (0,37–0,45 vs the Enel app's pay-as-you-go price), no Waycard needed |
| Plenitude On The Road (formerly Be Charge) | Operator + roaming | Years | Not matched in the library | Re-introduced subscriptions from 10-01; evvai markets "no subscription", then launched a cheaper Pass |
| Octopus Electroverse | European aggregator | 2023-10 | 1,699,774 | Pan-European scope, mainly UK; evvai is Italy-only, with Italian-language support and Italian e-invoices |
| NextCharge | Long-running Italian aggregator + wallet | 2013 | 601,616 | Closest in product form; evvai competes on price and "see the price including tax first" |
| Chargemap | French aggregator | 2012 | 2,892,096 | Free tier takes about 10% in service fees (per evvai's own comparison page); evvai takes zero commission |
| Own apps for IONITY / Ewiva / Electra / Free To X and others | Single network | 2021+ | IONITY 1,433,600;Electra 683,386 | Each runs its own; evvai covers everything with one account |
| evway, Sorgenia MyNextMove, Electrip | Aggregator / operator | Years | MyNextMove 115,536;Electrip 145,086 | Same as above |
| **TariffEV** | Price-comparison app + 55k-person community; from 2026-09 also connects to Cariqa so you can start charging in the app (first Powy, then Electrip) | 2024-03 | 35,467 | It's a price-comparison entry point and one of evvai's biggest acquisition channels (see below); the two are partnering |
| PlugShare / ABRP / Google Maps | Finding chargers, route planning | Years | PlugShare 4.76M, ABRP 1.84M | Find-only, no payment; evvai's planner only uses chargers you can start in the app, with live prices |

### 3. Growth tactics (evidence)

1. **Price subsidy + first-top-up bonus + invite code (confirmed)**
    - November pricing: Enel X AC chargers 150 kWh at 0,37 €/kWh before the promo, then 0,41; wallet first top-up gives 3 € (Vaielettrico 2026-11-01 reader letter, with screenshots).
(2026-10-20,19 comments).
    - Invite code: Facebook group post "OTTIENI 3€ DI BONUS E UNO SCONTO SUI PRIMI 150 kWh! USA IL CODICE AMICO: SCJ87UVU"; TikTok @sbiddo "Facciamo un confronto coi prezzi tra altre app e la nuova #evvai. Registrati col mio codice FUSNR" (about 6,092 views, via TikHub).

2. **Italian EV Facebook groups / TariffEV community (confirmed)** : Play review quote "tramite TariffEV ho scoperto Evvai" (2026-10-30); TariffEV group admin Valerio Fattori commented "fra poco anche una sorpresa con EVVAI.APP" (10-30), suggesting the two are in partnership talks.

3. **Vertical media (confirmed)** : Vaielettrico (Italy's largest EV community media, 33.6k YouTube subscribers) ran "Segnalo Evvai, app di ricarica molto economica" on 2026-11-01; the X post got 522 views. It sits in the reader-submission column, not as paid content (no "Pubbliredazionale" label seen). **Daily installs rose from 11-01~02 to about 788 right on cue** . Later the Spanish site foro3d 11-04 republished it.

4. **YouTube creators (confirmed; whether paid is unverified)** : Andrea Toffolo, "Tornano gli ABBONAMENTI e arriva EVVAI APP | Novembre 2026" (about 5.6k views, 4 days ago, i.e. around 11-02); Elettrico Facile, "Evvai la app di ricarica che ti fa risparmiare" (156 views, 11-05).

5. **SEO content site (confirmed as running; results unverified)** : evvai.app sitemap has 67 pages: 18 "viaggi" route pages, 13 "auto" car-model pages, 10 "confronti" comparison pages, 8 "reti" network pages, plus long-tail pages like "migliori app ricarica", "ricarica senza abbonamento", "quanto costa ricaricare autostrada". A classic AI mass-generated content play (BAOA calls itself an AI company). Searching "evvai" on Jina surfaces the homepage and several subpages, but rankings for generic Italian terms are unverified.

6. **Instagram (confirmed, small volume)** : @evvai.app 10-14 posted an English launch announcement aimed at foreigners driving in Italy.

7. **Paid ads** : The metaads/tiktokads libraries only track a named list of products, and no Evvai entry turned up; **unverified** .

### 4. Why it took off

- **Timing** : In autumn 2026, electricity prices in Italy went up (a Vaielettrico reply mentions "caro-energia"), operators are adjusting rates, and Plenitude 10-01 is relaunching subscriptions (Toffolo's video title: "Tornano gli abbonamenti"). Users are especially sensitive to "cheaper even without a subscription."

- **Price is the only hook** : Nearly all the praise is about price ("ottimi prezzi", "imbattibile", "la più conveniente"). On Enel/Plenitude's own chargers it undercuts the operators' own apps, which gives it built-in word of mouth in price-comparison groups.

- **Where the money comes from (inferred, unverified)** : e-MSP buys power wholesale from charge point operators through roaming platforms, and the retail price minus wholesale is the gross margin. The launch period is clearly subsidized (the first 150 kWh, the first top-up 3 €). The official site states: the old-user terms only hold until 11-09,11-10, after which you choose a Pass or pay the no-Pass price; from 11-16 the new prices are AC 0,45, DC 0,51, ultra-fast 0,63, and the Pass costs 150/300/500 = 2,99/5,99/9,99 € every 30 days. In other words, the classic charging e-MSP playbook: subsidize to acquire users, then lock in retention with a subscription. There is also an enterprise version (fleets, e-invoicing) for B2B.

- **Localized trust** : an Italian company, Italian phone support (staffed 9–18 on weekdays), monthly e-invoices via SdI, tax-inclusive prices shown upfront, reminders about idle fees. These are real pain points for Italian drivers and business users, and its comparison pages keep stressing them.

- **Word-of-mouth loop** : users post "0,39" and "0,57" screenshots in groups → others ask "is it true?" → someone replies "I tried it, same as advertised" (Play review "condizioni rispettate, spesa corrispondente a quanto dichiarato") → they bring in invite codes.

### 5. Differentiation, and whether that's why it took off

- Its features (one account for all networks, tax-inclusive prices upfront, no card needed, zero-fee wallet, cost and time estimates per car, planner that only uses chargers you can actually start) **overlap heavily with NextCharge and Electroverse** . The features alone don't explain why it took off.

- The real difference is the **launch-period subsidized pricing** , plus the packaging of "fully Italian company + Italian support and e-invoicing." The former is the main reason it took off; the latter makes it look trustworthy in price-comparison groups and is the foundation for extending into business fleets.

- Risk: once the subsidy ends (11-10 / 11-16 price changes), word of mouth could reverse. It owns no chargers, so the price advantage depends on roaming wholesale rates, which operators can change at any time.

### 6. How many people saw it and whether anyone copied it

- **Visibility: spreading within small circles** . Italian EV Facebook groups, the TariffEV community, one Vaielettrico reader letter, and two or three small YouTube videos. On X (x-radar: 0 posts in the last 30 days) and Reddit there is nothing; no revenue has been disclosed. The website voluntarily publishes its weekly charging count (1.647).

- **Copycats** : No new app copying it has appeared. Instead, TariffEV launched in-app charge starting around the same time (Cariqa tech), which is parallel development in the same niche rather than imitation.

### 7. What others can borrow

- In a local market that's already crowded but has opaque pricing, build an aggregation layer that **covers just one country, shows prices upfront, and offers local invoicing/customer support** . Light it up in price-comparison communities with **a capped subsidized price (first 150 kWh) + first-top-up bonus + invite codes** , then recoup through a subscription Pass.

- Pick **vertical price-comparison communities and reader-submission columns** (TariffEV, Vaielettrico "Segnalo") for cold-start channels: low cost, high trust.

- Use AI to mass-produce **route / model / network / comparison** long-tail pages for SEO.

- The prerequisite a small team would need to replicate this is access to a roaming platform (Hubject/Gireve/Cariqa or similar) to get CPO rates, plus enough cash to fund subsidies. That's the barrier; it isn't purely a software job.

### 8. Still unclear

- How large the subsidy is, whether each kWh is sold at a loss, and who funds it (BAOA registered in July, funding source unverified); which roaming platform it connects through, unverified.

- Whether the YouTube videos were paid partnerships is unverified; whether it ran Meta/Google ads is unverified.

- Whether retention drops after the 11-10 / 11-16 price changes. Watch late-November installs and ratings.

- What the "sorpresa" partnership with TariffEV is (co-branded discount? integration into the TariffEV app?) is unverified.

- One Instagram search result mentioned "Evvai Europe 750k points, 40+ networks," which doesn't match the website's "60k sockets in Italy, about 30 networks." It may be a search mix-up or a namesake; unverified.
