10,000 installs in a day, then a "too expensive" review two days later: what is Veya, the AI photo app
What it is A template-based, pay-per-use AI photo/video app: swap poses and turn them into video, make photos move, change outfits, edit images with one sentence. Monetized with credits plus a subscription, at $4.89–$159.99 per unit.
Why it blew up It hasn't really blown up. Installs are bought with paid ads that switch on and off every few days. The money comes from first-time purchases by users in emerging markets. It charted at #120 in a low-barrier utility category, and its US-store rating is 1.7.
DHow you could play it We don't recommend copying it. If you do build something, narrow it to one clear use case (say, outfit changes or ID photos only), price low, offer a free first generation, list it in a utility category, test with small budgets in India, Indonesia and Brazil, and stop if the numbers don't work.
- Data (updated daily) · first launch 2026-09-05 · 11-07 installs 77,850
Android · Total installs worldwide Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.Android · Ratings count (cumulative) Data 2026-11-05 → 2026-11-07 (3 days, 3 observations)
A Hong Kong company registered recently published an AI photo app on Google Play with pose swaps, animated photos and outfit changes. In two months it got 78k installs and briefly surfaced at the bottom of the utility Top Grossing charts in India, Indonesia and Brazil. It looks like growth, but a closer look shows it's paid ad spend in bursts. Below: what it is, where the users and revenue come from, who it competes with, and why we don't recommend chasing it.
Oct 4 and Oct 6
Veya AI Photo Playground launched on Sep 5. By Oct 3 total installs were still under 7,000. On Oct 4 it got 10,691 installs in a single day (third-party estimate), more than the entire previous month combined.
Two days later, on Oct 6, a user named Chris Pike left a Google Play review: "Far Far Far too expensive..so many better and cheaper options.. I wouldn't bother with this app." By Nov 6 it was the most-upvoted review on the store page (6 people marked it helpful).
Put those two events together and you have most of Veya's story: the installs are bought in waves, and users who see the price leave.
What it is
A template-based, pay-per-use AI photo/video app. Its feature list is standard for this category:
- AI Pose: turns a portrait into a short video of a different pose
- Photo Alive: makes a still photo move for a few seconds
- Clothes Changer: swaps outfits in full-body photos
- AI Photo Edit / AI Brush: edits images from one sentence, or repaints a selected area
- Templates: pick a template, upload a photo, get output
Payment is "Gems" credits plus a subscription. The in-app purchase prices listed on Google Play range from $4.89 to $159.99.
The only thing that sets it apart from its peers is the store copy. It skips keyword stuffing and reads like an essay: "A photo you already own is a starting point, not a verdict," with each feature introduced as a question, such as "What if they stood differently?" or "What if the still began to move?" It's pleasant to read, but it does nothing for store search. Its installs don't come from here.

On for a few days, off for a few days, on again. A curve like this doesn't come from word of mouth. It follows a budget being switched on and off. The rating-to-install ratio is only 0.17%, and paid-acquired users rarely leave reviews.
Where the users come from: paid ads, and only paid ads
Its privacy policy (revised Sep 16) is explicit. It integrates AppsFlyer to "determine which campaign or channel led to your installation," which means attribution for ad campaigns. We couldn't confirm which ad platform it spends on. Judging by the countries where revenue appears, it's most likely cheap Google or Meta traffic in India, Indonesia and Brazil (inference).
Beyond that, there's nothing: a TikTok search for "Veya AI" returns no videos, nobody mentions it on X, and the only pages online are auto-generated listings on APKPure, Softonic and AppBrain. No press coverage, no founder appearances.
The company behind it, HIPPO HK TECH LIMITED, has a developer account that AppBrain shows was created less than a month ago, with this one app. Its privacy policy is hosted on Google Sites under the Chinese page title "首页" (homepage). The domain on its support email, aiworldapp.com, is a marketing page selling LLM API access. One company with one package name, running a batch of AI tools as tests, looks a lot like the multi-app playbook of Chinese teams going global (inference: we found no second app under the same domain).
Where the money comes from
The money comes from first-time impulse purchases by paid-acquired users. "Change your pose" and "make your photo move" feel new the first time, so people top up credits to generate once.
It sits in the Utilities category, not Photo & Video. In India, Indonesia and Brazil, Utilities Top Grossing only needs to reach 120th place for the bar to be low, a handful of sales can get it charted. So "charted in Top Grossing" doesn't tell you much here. Real revenue can't be estimated, likely very small per day (unverified).
A 1.7-star US rating, a top review complaining about price, and no new version in a month and a half. Together these suggest it isn't relying on the product to keep users. Whether this business works depends on one thing: whether the first purchase bought with ad spend pays back.
Who it's competing with
Everyone. We filtered Google Play to apps published after June 2025 with "AI photo" or "AI video" in the name:
| Product | Launched | Installs | 7 new in the last day | Compared with Veya |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Phant AI | 2025-06 | 12M | +270k | Launched a year earlier, best overall Top Grossing rank #49 |
| Muselab AI | 2026-04 | 5.36M | +920k | One week of new installs is 12 times Veya's total. Ranked #1 in the German Photo & Video Top Free chart. |
| AI Photo Beauty Editor Studio | 2026-03 | 2.97M | +810k | The same company runs several apps |
| Shots(DeePix) | 2025-07 | 2.55M | +350k | Best overall Top Grossing rank #74 |
| Vyrid | 2026-07 | 740k | +75k | Same "odd name + new company" playbook |
| Mistmere | 2026-10-16 | 230k | +230k | Launched over a month after Veya and already has 3 times its installs |
| LumaSprig | 2026-10-16 | 77k | +60k | Scale and playbook nearly identical to Veya |
| AI Clothes Changer(SBS Tech) | 2026-08-31 | 230k | +60k | Outfit-changing as its only feature |
(Google Play,11-06)
Above these are the big players: Google Photos' photo-to-video and Remix, Veo image-to-video in Gemini, CapCut's AI templates, and Meta AI. They all offer similar features for free or bundled with a subscription. Apple's Image Playground even shares Veya's name.
Most of these probably call the same handful of third-party image and video models in the backend. Veya has nothing feature-wise that the others lack, and at scale it is one to two orders of magnitude smaller than the apps that made it work. It isn't the one being copied. It's one of the copiers, and not a good one.
If it were you
Verdict (D): Take a look, but don't copy it. Veya is itself a follower. The feature list is standard, the models are public APIs, there are dozens of rivals, and Google, Apple and CapCut give away similar features for free. It left no gap for you to fill.
Who it suits: teams that already run an overseas paid-acquisition pipeline, with attribution, credit payments and multi-entity publishing in place, who treat this kind of app as a cheap test shell. Scale it if it works, swap the shell if it doesn't. For those teams Veya is a reference case, not an opportunity.
Who it doesn't suit: solo indie developers and small teams. There's no organic traffic (Veya has never reached Top Free) and no content spread (not a single TikTok video). You'd be competing on who has the bigger ad budget and who calculates payback more accurately, against Muselab, which adds 900k new installs a week.
How to do it (if you still want to): don't build a do-everything catch-all. Veya's lesson is concrete: no differentiation, no iteration, aggressive pricing, and the result is a 1.7-star rating. If you do build, narrow it to one clear use case, such as virtual outfit try-on only, ID photos only, or one holiday template type. Price it low and make the first generation free or very cheap.
How to get users: there are only two levers. List in a weak-competition utility category rather than Photo & Video. Test with small budgets in cheap-traffic markets like India, Indonesia and Brazil, use an attribution tool to measure the cost per paying user, and stop when the numbers don't add up.
Timing: there's no window here. The big players' free features get stronger every quarter, and room for paid versions of these features keeps shrinking.
What would prove this read wrong: (1) a small app like Veya or LumaSprig reaching the top 50 of the Utilities or Photo & Video Top Free chart, which would mean this playbook has organic reach; (2) a single-feature competitor in some country or language, rated 4 stars or higher and growing through word of mouth, which would show the "narrow to one scenario and do it well" path has worked and is worth revisiting.

One line
A template-based, pay-per-use AI photo/video app: pose-swap video generation (AI Pose), photo animation (Photo Alive), outfit changing (Clothes Changer), text-based image edits, inpainting (AI Brush), and templates. Monetized with "Gems" credits plus subscriptions, with in-app prices of $4.89–$159.99.
Verdict
It hasn't really taken off. This is an overseas "AI photo/video wrapper" app whose growth comes from paid acquisition: the install curve jumps in bursts, and the privacy policy states it integrates AppsFlyer for attribution. Its revenue rests on low-barrier TOOLS Top Grossing charts in India, Indonesia, and Brazil (ranks #120–170). The store rating is only 1.7 stars, with negative reviews concentrated on "too expensive." Compared with similar apps in the niche that reach millions of installs, it has only 78k, one to two orders of magnitude smaller. The recall rationale was "7 days up 29k," which isn't outstanding for this niche.
1. Data
- Install counts (Google Play library app_snap / app_day, global cumulative): 10-29 48,405 → 10-31 60,010 → 11-02 67,905 → 11-03 70,698 → 11-05 72,728 → 11-06 77,850; net gain of 29,445 over 7 days.
- History since launch (Google Play library app_day_ext, AppstoreSpy estimates): launch date 2026-09-05; 10-03 only 6,928 → 10-04 single day +10,691 → 10-08 and 10-09 each about +2,270 → 10-22 to 10-25 nearly 0 daily → 10-26 to 11-01 averaging about 3.9k a day → 11-02 +7,895 → 11-06 +5,122. The curve is a series of pulses, running for a few days then pausing; organic growth doesn't look like this, it's a typical ad-spend rhythm.
- Ratings: store page shows 1.7 stars, 133 reviews (2026-11-06 read via Jina from the Google Play page). The histogram in the library records [133,0,0,0,0], which doesn't match the page's 1.7 stars; likely a field-mapping error in scraping, so go by the page. The review-to-install ratio is about 0.17%, on the low side, as paid-acquisition users rarely leave reviews.
- Charts (Google Play library chart_rank): only charted on the TOOLS category's Top Grossing chart: India #121–149 (present daily from 10-29 to 11-06), Brazil #147–169 (10-29 to 10-31), Indonesia #120–126 (from 11-05). Never on Top Free or the overall chart. In these storefronts, the bar for the TOOLS Top Grossing chart beyond #120 is very low; a few sales get you on.
- The version has always been v1.0.3 (store page updated 2026-09-22); no feature iterations in the month and a half since launch.
- Reviews visible on the store page: "Far Far Far too expensive..so many better and cheaper options" (Chris Pike, 2026-10-06,6 people found it helpful); plus several very short positive reviews like "VERY VERY GOOD" and "try it was so good" (late 2026-09).
2. Competitors
The same thing (photo-to-video, AI outfit changing, AI portraits, text-based image edits) is a red ocean on Google Play. Below are some of the apps in the googleplay library released after 2025-06 with AI photo/video in their names (app_profile, 2026-11-06):
| Product | Developer | Launched | Installs | 7 daily installs | Notes |

| AI Photo Beauty Editor Studio | ATQ - AI Lab | 2026-03 | 2.97M | +810k | The same company also has matrix apps like AI Photo Restore and Emberly |
| Shots - AI Photo & Video Maker | DeePix AI Apps | 2025-07 | 2.55M | +350k | Best overall Top Grossing rank #74 |
| Phant AI: AI Video&image Maker | CamSoft AI Magic | 2025-06 | 12M | +270k | Best overall Top Grossing rank #49 |
| Mistmere: AI Photo Video Maker | Funkedenic | 2026-10-16 | 230k | +230k | Launched over a month after Veya, already 3× its size |
| Vyrid - AI Photo Maker | Beyond the Frame Lab | 2026-07 | 740k | +75k | Same "odd name + .vip domain" playbook; on the India ENTERTAINMENT Top Grossing chart |
| Flarcast - AI Photo Craft | Pixel Dream Works | 2026-07 | 170k | +60k | Same as above |
| LumaSprig: AI Photo Motion | PIZZA DI LUNA, LLC | 2026-10-16 | 77k | +60k | Nearly identical in scale and approach to Veya |
| AI Clothes Changer - Try On | SBS Tech | 2026-08-31 | 230k | +60k | Outfit changing only |
| HeyGen | HeyGen | 2025-11(Android) | 2.08M | +130k | Brand companies |
Big-tech features: Google Photos' photo-to-video and Remix, Gemini/Veo image-to-video, Apple Image Playground (even "Playground" in the name collides), CapCut/JianYing AI effect templates, Meta AI all do the same things. There are also many similar products on iOS and the web (Pika, Hailuo, Kling's mobile versions, etc.).
Compared with competitors, Veya shows no visible feature differentiation: pose-swap, photo animation, outfit changing, text-based edits, and templates are the standard feature list for this app category, and the backend most likely calls the same batch of third-party video/image models. Its only distinctive trait is store copy written as prose in an "experiment—revise" loop rather than keyword-stuffed. That style actually hurts store search, so the copy isn't why it gets traffic.
3. Growth tactics
- Paid acquisition (confirmed): the privacy policy (sites.google.com/aiworldapp.com/veya-privacy-policy, revised 2026-09-16) in sections 3.2(e) and 3.3 states it integrates AppsFlyer, used to "determine which campaign or channel led to your installation"; it also integrates Firebase. The install curve is pulsed (10-04 single day +10.7k, 10-22 to 10-25 nearly 0, then ramping up again), consistent with ad spend switched on and off by budget. Which channel it runs on wasn't found: the metaads, googleads, and tiktokads libraries don't track this package name (absence doesn't mean no spend). Judging by its placement on the India, Indonesia, and Brazil Top Grossing charts, it's most likely Google UAC or Meta traffic in emerging markets.
- Creators and influencers (not found): TikHub search for "Veya AI" returned nothing; x-radar has no related content; the web only has auto-indexed pages like CNET Download, Softonic, APKPure, and AppBrain.
- Store search (weak effect): the title "AI Photo Playground" captures a bit of AI photo long-tail traffic, but it has never charted on Top Free, so organic traffic is tiny.
- Team background (inferred): the entity appears to be a newly registered Hong Kong company; AppBrain shows the developer account "active for less than a month" with only this one app; the privacy policy sits on Google Sites with a Chinese page title "首页" (Home); the official site on the aiworldapp.com email domain is an LLM API marketing page ("Conversion rate 30% higher than industry standard"). This fits the overseas-Chinese team pattern of one entity holding one app, batch-producing AI tools as a matrix. No other app was found in the library under this email domain, so whether it's a matrix is unverified.
4. Why it gets this traffic and why people pay
- The monetization is credits (Gems) plus subscriptions, with a top tier of $159.99, banking on first-purchase impulse spending from paid-acquisition users: features like "pose swap" and "photo animation" feel fresh on first use, so users top up to generate once.
- Revenue only surfaces in low-barrier TOOLS Top Grossing charts in India, Indonesia, and Brazil, with ranks beyond 120; daily gross is estimated to be small (unverified).
- A 1.7-star rating and "too expensive" complaints signal weak retention and reputation; the question is whether "paid acquisition → first-purchase monetization" can break even, not whether the product keeps users.
5. How visible it is
No media coverage, no X discussion, no public revenue, no founder visibility. Almost nobody knows about it, but that says little: there are dozens or hundreds of apps like this in the niche, and Veya is one of the smaller ones.
6. What to borrow
- A low-cost test run of an AI-effects app using the combo of "one HK entity + one package name + AppsFlyer + credit system + emerging-market TOOLS Top Grossing," and if it doesn't take off, swap the wrapper and start over. This is the standard playbook for this type of team.
- Placing the app in TOOLS instead of PHOTOGRAPHY means weaker competition on the Top Grossing chart and an easier path to charting.
- Lessons: no feature differentiation, no iteration (still 1.0.3), and aggressive pricing lead to a 1.7 rating. In this niche, paid acquisition can buy installs but can't buy scale.
7. Uncertain
- Specific channels, daily budget, and ROI weren't found (none of the three ad libraries track it).
- Whether it belongs to a larger overseas matrix (which company stands behind aiworldapp.com) is unverified.
- Actual revenue: the chart ranks are low, so it can't be estimated.
- Rating distribution: the library histogram doesn't match the page's 1.7 stars.
