Giving a voice room a 3D face: Mass is on the Southeast Asia social top-grossing chart, the only one that "looks different"
What it is A 3D avatar-creation social app used by young people in Southeast Asia: create a 3D character, enter party rooms and karaoke rooms to talk on the mic, send gifts, buy outfits and pull blind boxes.
Why it took off The Southeast Asia social top-grossing chart is packed with 2 voice rooms. It uses the same tipping and guild monetization, but swaps in a 3D look and outfits, making it the one thing on the chart that looks different. Users were mainly bought through 3D short plot videos aimed at the Philippines and Indonesia.
CHow you can follow it Don't copy 3D. In a high-paying category where every top-grossing app looks the same, add an appearance users can recognize at a glance. Use "no face shown" plus a high revenue share to recruit hosts and creators. Teams that already run voice rooms get the most value by adding virtual avatars to their own product.

A small Shanghai company's 3D avatar social app with 13.5M installs, ranked #14 on the Philippines social chart and #19 in Indonesia. There is nothing new in the gameplay: it takes the most profitable Chinese voice-room apps going global in Southeast Asia (gifts, guilds, leaderboards) and wraps them in a QQ-Show-style 3D avatar and outfit store. This piece covers how it got started, where the money comes from, where it stands now, and what a small team can take from it.
A 12.5M-view video, "Why you betry me!"
On 2023 Jul 21, Mass's official TikTok posted a 36-second video. The caption was just one line, "Why you betry me!" (misspelled), followed by two dozen hashtags: #avatar #metaverse #soulmate #romantic. The stars were two 3D figures acting out a scene of betrayal. By Nov 6, the video had 12.5M views and 78k likes, and it is still the most-watched post on the account (TikHub, 11-06).
Most comments are from Filipinos. The most-liked one says "THE FIRST POST HELP" (603 likes). Another Tagalog comment reads "Pov: Mga add", meaning "POV: those ads", the kind of ad you've already seen; others say "nag DOWNLOAD NA PO AKO": I've already downloaded it.
Three years on, the account's daily posts look different. In Nov 4 it posted "new two-person motorcycle, 11.11 into the blind box", with 196 views; in late October, player-submitted posts like "dating him" and "dancing together at Halloween", each with a few hundred views. In Oct 27, a Filipino player left a one-star Google Play review: "I've already spent over 60,000 diamonds on the pumpkin magic blind box, why still no special effect I want?"
Plot videos paid for acquisition bring people in, then blind boxes, outfits and social ties keep them and get the money. That is Mass over the last three years.
What it is
A 3D avatar social app developed by Shanghai Xuanji Network Technology (XJWL in the package name stands for "Xuanji Network"), backed by Shanghai Zhuzi Internet, which makes 3D anime games. Launched in 2023, it focuses on the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. The listing date on Google Play is 2026-09-03, which reflects a reset of the store page; it is not a new app.
The first step is character creation: five face styles (manga face, doll face, trendy face...), hairstyles, tattoos (catering to Thailand and Vietnam's tattoo culture), plus back accessories like angel wings and devil tails. Chinese overseas-expansion media Yangfan Chuhai compared it to an "overseas QQ Show". Then come homes, pets, fishing, mining and bug catching.
What really holds it up are the rooms: party rooms, game rooms, karaoke rooms, where 3D characters enter, talk on the mic and send gifts. The profile page shows gift records and "bindings", and the platform has wealth and gift levels, intimacy scores and guild leaderboards. The whole setup matches best-selling Chinese voice-chat apps in Southeast Asia like SUGO, Chamet and Poppo. The only difference is that the avatars are 3D people who can change outfits.
In one line: a 3D-avatar version of a voice room.
How big it is now
| Value | Sources | |
|---|---|---|
| Total installs | 13.5M | Google Play,11-06 |
| New in the last 7 days | 14.8k, about 2,100 a day | Google Play, 10-29 to 11-06 |
| Best social top-grossing rank | Philippines 14, Indonesia 19, Thailand 30, Vietnam 47, Malaysia 54 | Google Play, 10-29 to 11-06 |
| Social free chart | Best in Vietnam: #48; Indonesia 101, Philippines 181 | Same as above |
| Rating | 3.5 stars, 36.6k reviews | Google Play,11-06 |
| In-app purchase price | $0.99–$749.99 | Google Play store page |
| iOS | 250 reviews in Vietnam, 78 in Indonesia | App Store,11-06 |
Read the two numbers together. First, top-grossing rank is far ahead of download rank: it is nearly invisible on the free chart but sits among a row of voice, live-streaming and dating apps on the grossing chart. That is the typical ledger of a voice room: a few big spenders buy gifts and pull blind boxes, and they support the whole product. Second, it has passed its fast-growth phase: in May 2025 it had 360k global downloads in a month (per Yangfan Chuhai's data), over 10,000 a day; now it's just over 2,000 a day (the two sources use different methods, so the decline is an estimate). The founder has said publicly "20M users", while Play shows 13.5M, and iOS is tiny. It is essentially an Android product.
Where users come from
Paid acquisition, mainly in the Philippines and Indonesia. Yangfan Chuhai's 2025 June teardown (citing Guangdadа data) is clear: the creatives are dramatic plot videos shot with 3D characters and realistic settings, the same format as the "Why you betry me!" opener. On the timeline, early traffic came from Thailand and the Philippines; in August 2024 it took off in Indonesia; in June 2025 Indonesia's single-day download peak exceeded 13k; in May 2025, the Philippines had 140k and Indonesia 100k, together 75.8% of global downloads (both per Diandian data).
Retention through community. The TikTok account has 146k followers and 1,232 videos, now mostly player-submitted content. Facebook groups, Discord and Instagram (21k followers) run contests with diamond rewards, such as the Halloween UGC contest at the end of October. These don't bring in much new traffic; they give existing players something to do.
Who plays. Founder Cheng Yinbin told Yangfan Chuhai in an April 2026 interview that the core users are young women aged 18 to 25, with men arriving through organic traffic. The comments back this up: one says they're introverted and no longer feel lonely after making friends here; a Thai player says "after playing I got a real girlfriend"; others warn "there's some dirty stuff posted here, be careful".
Where the money comes from
Blind boxes and outfits. Basic clothes cost purple diamonds, which you can earn through check-ins, tasks, and watching ads. Nicer high-tier outfits and player-made UGC works need blue diamonds, which are basically top-up only. The shop, the spin wheel, and limited-time blind boxes (11.11, that two-seat motorcycle is in a blind box) keep pushing people toward top-ups. One Indonesian review with 412 likes: "Fun to play, like Zepeto plus Roblox, but please make the clothes and props less expensive 😭".
Gift tipping and host revenue share. The official site massbloom.com says "receive gifts and get 60%, settled in real time," and the pitch is that with a 3D avatar you can "grow followers without showing your face." Southeast Asian voice-room host economies used to require showing your face, or at least your voice. Mass lowered the bar another notch.
UGC revenue share. Players design their own clothes and rooms, list them for sale, and creators keep 70%. The founder says creators in Korea, Japan, and Taiwan already earn around ¥10K a month from this (company claim).
Bypassing the platform cut. There's an Xsolla web store for direct top-ups, avoiding Google's 15–30% fee. A Steam version also launched at the end of 2025 (13 reviews, 46% positive, basically no traction).
Revenue isn't public, and the web top-up portion isn't visible from outside.
What players are complaining about
Going through Play reviews from late October to early November in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand: lots of five-star ratings (many read like templates, likely partly from event rewards), with negative reviews concentrated on three issues:
- Too expensive, can't get what you want: "Over 60,000 diamonds and still can't get the effect I want"; "Almost every hairstyle and outfit costs money"; "Everything now requires expensive VIP."
- Lagging worse with each update: "Heavier with every update", "Phone gets hot", "Updates every time but I can't tell what changed"; one one-star Indonesian review says avatars in the lobby after an update "look ugly like clowns."
- People problems: abuse and harassment get reported and nobody acts; there's no way to find the account deletion option.
These are the old problems of voice rooms, and switching to a 3D skin didn't escape them.
Who it's competing with
| Competitors | Scale (Google Play installs, 11-06) | How Mass differs |
|---|---|---|
| ZEPETO | 250M | Same 3D avatar + UGC clothing, but focused on photos and content, with no voice-room gift tipping; not near the top of Southeast Asian social Top Grossing |
| Avakin Life | 148M | More like a game's virtual life, home turf in Brazil |
| IMVU / Highrise | 50.9M / 26.3M | Veteran 3D avatar chat, home turf in Europe, the US, and Turkey, not localized for Southeast Asia |
| Hago | 300M | Voice rooms + mini games, 2D |
| SUGO / Poppo Live / Chamet, etc. | 18M–80M | Same gift and host model, but with 2D avatars or live video; all rank above Mass in Southeast Asian social Top Grossing |
| DesParty / NiuChat | 100k–450k | New voice-room apps from 2025–2026, Philippines social Top Grossing #13 and #15, right next to Mass |
The veteran 3D avatar social apps are all bigger than Mass, but none has deepened voice-room tipping; the voice-room apps all earn more than Mass, but none is 3D. In the top 30 social Top Grossing apps across the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand, Mass is the only 3D avatar product (Google Play charts, 11-06). I didn't find any new app clearly copying "3D avatar + voice rooms."
Where it's heading
Starting in April 2026, Mass has been going "all-in on AI": generating 3D clothes and rooms from a sentence or an image, creating a 3D avatar with about 90% likeness from a single photo, having an AI double play Werewolf, attend parties, and make friends for you, then telling you in the morning "how many friends you made and how many tokens you spent." Pricing is $20 / 30 / 50 / 100 for monthly token packs (founder interview). The Steam page mentions integrating hyper3d for AI generation.
It's a new story, but by November I see no lift in the numbers: about 2,000-plus new installs a day, and no sign that AI has brought in new users.
If it were you
C. Worth studying, not worth copying. Mass proves one thing: in a category already proven to make money, changing the skin can make you the only one that "looks different" on the charts, skipping the job of educating users. But this skin, meaning the 3D engine, the character creator, the huge catalog of outfits, and the UGC toolchain, took a game company backed by investors three years to build. Its volume is continually bought in the Philippines and Indonesia. Its money depends on guilds and big spenders. A small team can't get any of these three.
Who it suits: teams already running overseas voice-room apps with existing room, gift, and guild systems and Southeast Asia ad experience. Adding a virtual avatar layer to your own product (even a 2D or Live2D one) is much cheaper than building a Mass from scratch.
Who it doesn't suit: indie developers with a team of 1–3; people who haven't bought Southeast Asian ads or run guilds and hosts; anyone hoping to build traction from TikTok organic reach. Mass's official account now gets a few hundred views per video, which organic reach can't carry for this kind of product.
How to do it: Don't copy the 3D look. Copy the approach: pick a category where the top 30 Top Grossing apps all look alike (voice rooms, live streaming, dating), and switch to an appearance that users can tell apart at a glance. Use "no face shown" to lower the barrier on the supply side, paired with a high revenue share (it gives 60% on gifts and 70% on UGC). Use dual currencies: free currency from check-ins and ads, scarce currency only through top-ups. Open a web store to bypass store fees. If you only want the part Mass does poorly: the biggest complaint in reviews is "lagging and phone heating up after updates." A lightweight virtual-avatar party room that runs smoothly on low-end Android is a bet worth considering (inference).
How to acquire users: Follow Mass's playbook. Use avatars from the product to shoot dramatic short clips (betrayal, jealousy, chance encounters) and run them on Meta and TikTok in the Philippines and Indonesia. Use the same material for the official account and for user submission contests. Do the math first: this kind of product breaks even on a handful of big payers, and without guild and big-spender operations, paid acquisition easily loses money.
When: No need to rush for a time window. Mass has held this position for three years with no one following, which suggests the barrier is resources, not speed.
What would show I got it wrong: ① Mass's AI push really lifts new installs (back above 5,000 a day), meaning "AI doubles doing social" is a new opportunity worth revisiting; ② a second or third virtual-avatar voice app enters and holds its place in the top 30 Southeast Asian social Top Grossing, meaning the reskin path is easier than expected and the bar to follow is lower than I judged; ③ conversely, Mass drops out of the top 50 social Top Grossing in the Philippines and Indonesia, meaning this 3D skin can't hold up paid revenue, and there's no need to study it at all.

One line
Shanghai Xuanji Network Technology (XJWL in the package name is the pinyin abbreviation for "Xuanji Network"; the investor is Shanghai Zhuzi Internet, zhuziplay) built a social app with 3D character creation + voice party rooms, launched in 2023, focused on the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam. It's not a new app: the listing date 2026-09-03 in the data card comes from a store reset, and it has really been running for about three years. Its play is to take the category that sells best in Southeast Asia, China-exported voice rooms (gift tipping, guilds, leaderboards), and layer on a ZEPETO / QQ Show-style 3D avatar and UGC outfit economy. It became the only 3D avatar product among the row of 2D voice and live-streaming apps on Southeast Asia's social Top Grossing charts.
1. Basic data
- Cumulative global installs of 13,518,817 (googleplay library 2026-11-06), with 7 in the last 14,789 days, roughly 2 thousand a day. It's past the rapid growth phase. Rating count 36,597,3.5 stars (store page).
- Top Grossing charts (googleplay library, 2026-10-29 to 11-06): best social Top Grossing rank #14 in the Philippines, #19 in Indonesia, #30 in Thailand, #47 in Vietnam, #54 in Malaysia; best overall app Top Grossing rank in the Philippines was #115. It only squeezes into the top 50 of the Vietnam social Top Free chart. Its Top Grossing rank is far higher than its download rank, meaning it earns from a small group of heavy spenders.
- In-app purchase prices $0.99–$749.99 (store page); it is also labeled "Contains ads," so free currency can be earned by watching ads.
- Listing date: the earliest review in the library is 2026-04-24, and the store listing was reset (
released_reset = True). The iOS version (id1636852237, seller MASS 3D TECHNOLOGY PTE. LTD.) launched 2023-04-13. The X account posted a "2 anniversary" announcement, and Sailing Global, citing Diandian data, says "Mass launched in 2023." - iOS is small: rating counts are Vietnam 250, Indonesia 78, Thailand 21 (iTunes lookup 2026-11-06). It's basically an Android product, consistent with Android's overwhelming share in Southeast Asia.
- There's also a Steam version (launched 2025-12-30, 13 reviews, 46% positive) and an Xsolla web store, mass-3d-create-play.xsolla.site (web top-ups that bypass Google's fees).
2. Competitors
| Competitors | Platform | Launched | Scale (googleplay library 11-06) | How it differs from Mass |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ZEPETO(Naver Z) | iOS/Android | 2018 | 250M installs | Also 3D avatar + UGC outfits, but focused on content, photos, and worlds, not voice-room tipping; not near the top of Southeast Asian social Top Grossing |
| Highrise(Pocket Worlds) | iOS/Android | 2020 | 26.3M | 3D avatar chat plus outfit economy, mainly Europe and Turkey, with no voice-party gift revenue share |
| Avakin Life | iOS/Android | 2013 | 148M | 3D virtual life, more game-like, Brazil Top Grossing RPG #2; not a voice room |
| IMVU | iOS/Android/PC | 2014 | 50.9M | Originator of 3D avatar chat, Europe and Brazil; no Southeast Asian localization |

| Hago (Hago / Imo group) | Android | 2018 | 300M | Voice-room + mini-game, 2D; #12 on Indonesia's Social Top Grossing |
| SUGO / Poppo Live / Chamet / Gemgala / Litmatch / WePlay | Android | 2019–2022 | 18M–190M | All from Chinese going-global voice / live-streaming apps: 2D avatars + gift tipping. They rank above Mass on the Social Top Grossing charts in the Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia. |
| DesParty, NiuChat and other new voice-room apps | Android | 2025–2026 | 10–450k | #13 and #15 on the Philippines Social Top Grossing, right next to Mass. Pure voice chat, far fewer installs. |
Bottom line: Long-running 3D avatar social apps (ZEPETO, Avakin, Highrise, IMVU) are all bigger than Mass, but none has built out the gift-tipping model of voice rooms, which is the most lucrative monetization in Southeast Asia. The top 30 Social Top Grossing spots in Southeast Asia are all 2D voice, live-streaming or dating apps. Mass is the only 3D avatar product among the top 30 Social Top Grossing apps in the Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia (Google Play library chart_rank 2026-11-06).
3. Where users come from
- Paid acquisition, mainly Philippines + Indonesia (confirmed by industry media): a Yangfan Chuhai 2025-06 breakdown (citing Guangdaduo data) says Mass is "mainly marketed in the Philippines and Indonesia", with ads built from 3D avatars in realistic settings, short dramatic story videos. Our metaads library only tracks utility keywords and doesn't cover it (not found there ≠ not running).www.woshipm.com/it/6232967.html
- Growth timing: Dianyi data shows early growth came from Thailand and the Philippines, 2024-08 picked up in Indonesia, and 2025-06 Indonesia peaked at over 13k daily downloads. 2025-05 total downloads hit 360k, with 140k in the Philippines and 100k in Indonesia, together 75.8% (same source). It now adds about 2k new installs a day (our library), so it's living off its existing base.
- Official TikTok account + user submissions (confirmed): @mass3d_official with 146k followers, 840k likes and 1,232 videos (TikHub 2026-11-06). It posts user-submitted (#submission) 3D couple, dating and dance clips. Player-made videos mostly get a few hundred to a few thousand views. This is community management, not viral acquisition.
- Facebook groups, Discord, Instagram (21k followers), X (109 posts) run the community and events (diamond-reward contests, 2026-09 events on the Facebook page), with a focus on retention.
- Store search / organic: The founder says "the core users are 18–25-year-old young women, and men come in through organic traffic" (Sina / Yangfan Chuhai interview 2026-04-08).
- No celebrity, Product Hunt, HN, Reddit, or big X accounts driving traffic were found.
4. Why users stay and why they pay
- Character creation + outfits = recurring spend: five face-sculpting styles, tattoos, wings and tails (compared to an overseas QQ Show), homes, pets. The store's regular outfits use purple diamonds, while premium outfits and UGC works use cyan diamonds that can only be bought with top-ups (Yangfan Chuhai 2025-06).
- Voice-room monetization ported over: party rooms, game rooms, karaoke rooms, 1-to-1 matching spaces, gift tipping, rich-value / gift-value / intimacy leaderboards, guild rankings. Like SUGO and Chamet, it makes money from big spenders sending gifts and chasing leaderboards. That explains why its grossing rank is far higher than its download rank and why per-user spend reaches $749.99.
- Host / creator revenue share: the official site says creators "receive 60% of gifts, settled in real time", and 3D avatars let people "grow followers without showing their face" (massbloom.com). UGC outfit sales pay creators 70% (CEO interview). It's essentially the Southeast Asian voice-room host economy, moved to virtual hosts who don't need to show their face.
- Gacha / spin wheels: user reviews ask for "better odds on the wheel" and "a way for broke players to get free diamonds" (Play reviews 2026-06, 2026-09). Both the paywall and the complaints center on diamonds.
- Localization: tropical beach settings, tattoos, Thai / Vietnamese / Indonesian UI and social posts (Yangfan Chuhai; X posts go out in three languages at once).
5. Differentiation: is that why it took off?
The differentiator is "a voice room with 3D avatars". Compared to 3D avatar products like ZEPETO and Highrise, it adds voice-room tipping, guilds and host revenue share. Compared to voice-room apps like SUGO and Poppo, it adds 3D avatars, outfits, homes and a UGC store, so users can be the star without showing their face, which especially appeals to young women. No other app in Southeast Asia's social grossing charts combines these, and that's the main reason it made the grossing charts. But the product alone isn't enough: the traffic is bought (Philippines / Indonesia story creatives), and new installs are now slow. Its scale (13.5M) is far smaller than the top 2D voice apps (80M–300M). Since 2026 it has been pivoting toward "AI": AI-generated clothing, furniture and houses, one-tap face creation from photos, and AI avatars that socialize on your behalf. Token plans cost $20–$100 a month (CEO interview 2026-04; the Steam page says it uses hyper3d for AI generation). This is a new story with no data-backed lift yet. Daily new installs over the last 7 days are still only about 15k.
6. How many people have seen it
- Revenue is not public (no TrustMRR listing, no founder revenue posts).
- Covered in Chinese going-global circles: a Yangfan Chuhai 2025-06 breakdown (reposted by Renrenshi Chanpin Jingli, Tencent News and Global Daily), a Sina interview with founder Cheng Yinbin 2026-04, and the founder spoke at PAGC 2026. Nothing on X (x-radar: 30 posts in the last 0 days).
- Verdict: it's circulating in small circles. People in the Southeast Asia social-app world know it, but it's not a hot topic.
- Copycats: no new app clearly copying "3D avatars + voice room" was found. DesParty and NiuChat, newly on the same charts, are pure voice rooms, so they don't count.
7. What others can borrow
- It re-skins a mature, high-ARPU category (voice-room gifting) with 3D avatars, becoming the only "different look" on the charts and skipping category education.
- "You can host without showing your face": virtual avatars lower the barrier to going live for young women in Southeast Asia, then a 60% gift share attracts supply.
- Dual currency (free purple diamonds + cyan diamonds that can only be topped up), plus a monthly coin-to-cyan-diamond exchange, rewards UGC creators and gift-givers while keeping the paywall in place.
- A web store (Xsolla) bypasses Google's cut; a Steam version adds a PC entry point.
- Ad creatives reuse the product's own 3D settings as short story videos, and the TikTok submission campaign draws on the same content.
8. Still unclear
- Real revenue: only grossing ranks are visible. Web top-up revenue via Xsolla is not visible.
- The "20M users" figure is the founder's; Play installs are 13.5M. iOS is very small.
- Current paid acquisition scale (not tracked in the metaads library; Meta ad library live-ad count not verified).
- Whether the AI overhaul (from 2026-04) helps retention or spending can't be seen in the data yet.
- The relationship between the three entities (Google Play developer "Mass Technology Co., Ltd.", iOS "MASS 3D TECHNOLOGY PTE. LTD." in Singapore, and Steam "Shanghai Xuanji Network Technology") is unverified. Based on common going-global structures, they're probably the same team.
