200k installs and #38 on Germany's Top Grossing chart: Dulci's store page says "interactive fiction", its ads say "characters who make your heart race"

What it is An AI roleplay chat app that the store calls "write novels with characters". In practice it's an AI romance companion with 17+ content, monetized through gems and subscriptions.

Why it took off Starting in late October, they recruited a group of BookTok, dark romance, and K-pop fanfic micro-creators, each given a code for a free week of membership. AI romance companions already had a paying user base willing to spend heavily, and in less-contested markets like Germany, France, and Spain it climbed the grossing charts quickly.

BHow you could copy it Don't compete on features, compete on distribution: pick a European language nobody is seriously serving or a niche community (BL, dark romance), position the store page as interactive stories, and recruit 20–30 micro-creators with one code each. Settle payouts by code, and every two weeks cut the ones that don't convert.

Grade B: willingness to pay is proven, the acquisition playbook is clear, and it hasn't been overused yet. But the category is crowded (Character.AI, Tipsy, and several copycats the same month), the product has no moat, and you'd have to front 17+ content takedown risk plus model and creator costs. Few people know about it yet

Dulci is an AI interactive story app from a Singapore-based going-global team, listed on Google Play in Sep 18. By Nov 6 it had roughly 219k installs, ranking #38 on Germany's overall Top Grossing chart and #83 in the US. The product is about the same as its predecessors Character.AI and Tipsy. What it does differently: the store page reads "write a novel with characters", which passed review, and it recruits through micro-creators in BookTok, dark romance, and K-pop fanfic circles, each given a redemption code. The category is already crowded, but few people are talking about this playbook. Copying it, switching languages, or switching communities still leaves room.

A BookTok video with 300k views

In Oct 28, TikTok user veive.vex posted a video with one line of text: "use our code E4X45WFG for a week of full membership on @Dulci", tagged #darkromance #maskedmen #BookTok. By Nov 6 the video had 305k views.

That same week, similar videos kept appearing: tam_ugc_contentcreator (the account name is literally "UGC content creator") 10-24 posted "Create your own story, meet interesting characters… Use my code QG7AENEV to get 1 week of free subscription", 127k views; scarlannie 10-23 posted "Your next obsession is waiting… unlock your chapter with dulci", 52k; fayliahh in Mexico wrote "mi nueva gran obsesión" and gave away gems; and a German BL character creator, jaden_skzboy97, posted "JADENVERSE IST JETZT AUCH AUF DULCI!", moving a whole set of Korean-style BL characters over (TikTok search, 11-06).

Every video tags @Dulci, and every creator has a different code. The code handles two things: payout (which creator brought in how many people) and conversion (one free week of membership, then auto-renewal).

These videos started clustering around late October 20. Dulci's installs went from 10-29k to 126k on 11-06 to 219k, adding 92k in 9 days, with daily gains of +11k and +17k over the last two days, and still accelerating (public Google Play install counts).

What it actually is

On the Google Play store page, Dulci presents itself as an app where you "write stories with original characters": pick an opening from the library (fantasy, mystery, gothic, slice of life) or build your own character and write the first scene. Characters remember names and choices from earlier chapters, any passage can be rewritten, and key scenes can be illustrated. "A quiet, cinematic reading interface." The word "romance" never appears.

But the store rating is Mature 17+, with "Violence, Sexual Themes, Users Interact", and the description says it's for ages 18 and up. Related Instagram reels say "meet characters who fall for you". Creator videos are tagged #darkromance, #airomance, #maskedmen.

Put plainly: it's an AI romance companion chat wearing the costume of "interactive fiction". The costume works. Its iOS version was called "Dulci: AI Character Chat", listed in September, and has since disappeared from the App Store (AppBrain shows "No longer on the App Store" with only 8 ratings left). The old Play name "Dulci: Chat with AI Friends" still shows up on download pages at softonic and CNET, before it was renamed to the current "AI Interactive Story". The reason for the iOS removal hasn't been disclosed; the most likely cause is review policy (inference).

Where the money comes from: 200k installs, grossing higher than many peers with millions of installs

Free to download. Every character reply and every generated illustration costs gems. There are free daily check-in gems, plus gem packs and Dulci PRO monthly/annual subscriptions. Individual in-app purchases range from $0.99 to $299.99 (store page, 11-06).

Country10-2911-06
Germany6638
France4841
Spain6243
Mexico7659
Canada11358

US18783

It ranks in the top-grossing Entertainment category: #12 in Germany, France, and Spain, #29 in the US. The number of countries where it charts overall went from 8 to 14. 200k installs was enough to reach the top 40 in Germany's overall chart, which shows how deeply paying users are being monetized. That's an old pattern for AI romance companions: a small group of heavy users spends a lot each month. The German, French, and Spanish rankings are much better than the US, consistent with the high share of German and Spanish-language creators in the videos.

Reviews show how the money is collected. In Oct 16, a user named Erika Ramirez wrote: "The subscription gives 5k or 16k gems a month, but if you chat a bit longer it's still not enough, and you end up buying gems anyway, so what's the point of the subscription?" The developer replied that the subscription includes a monthly gem allowance, not unlimited use, and that switching to a lighter model in story settings makes gems last longer. In other words, the subscription is the entry ticket, gems are the main revenue, and model tier is directly tied to price.

Where users come from

The main engine is the videos at the top: mid-tier micro-creators who already play on Character.AI-style products, from BookTok, dark romance, K-pop fanfic, and BL character creators, each with one code. There's also a user-to-user referral loop: "Join me on Dulci and we'll both get 300 gems" (theonegurl85, 10-20).

Its official TikTok account, dulci.app, has only 97 followers and 13 videos, so its own content isn't driving reach. Whether it has run large-scale paid ads on Meta, Google, or TikTok can't be confirmed from public ad libraries. But a user commenting on 10-18 said "compared to the ads, this feels like a pre-beta version", suggesting she first saw it through ads (likely the creator videos, unverified). Going-global teams often buy through agency accounts, so the absence in the libraries doesn't mean there was no spend.

On r/CharacterAI_No_Filter on Reddit, people praise it for proactively suggesting plot directions and adding twists. The subreddit's name already says something about the audience: people who find Character.AI too restrictive.

What users say

Rating 4.5, from roughly 4,800 ratings, but very few of them have written reviews, and most of the ratings likely come from in-app prompts. The most-liked reviews:

  • "I thought it was another low-quality AI, but it's actually good, on par with the high-quality ones, maybe better. They give 100 gems a day while others give 50, and you can set how many gems each reply costs." (Kira Yun, 10-18, 78 people found it helpful)
  • "It's only static anime images, and character replies first repeat what you said before moving to the preset plot. Everything costs gems, even just to hear it reply one line. Compared to the ads, this feels like pre-beta. A book and your own imagination are much cheaper." (Kara Donkle, 10-18, 45 people found it helpful)

In short: users are comparing it to similar apps on how generous the gems are and whether the spending is worth it. Nobody says it has anything the others don't.

SeaChat: Live Your Story (SeaArt)2026-09-0250k installsA big company is using the same naming template

Dulci is itself a follower, and several others copied the same template in the same month. This isn't an empty market. It's a category where willingness to pay has been proven over and over, along with an acquisition playbook that hasn't been overused yet.

Who's behind it

The developer is ORIGO Game, legal entity ORIGO ENTERTAINMENT PTE. LTD., registered in Singapore in June 2022. Its earlier products were AI tools: the AI photo editor Hype AI (about 3M installs on Play) and the AI video app MOVA (about 550k), and its website claims "30M users in 160 countries". This is a going-global team that builds and then buys traffic, and Dulci applies the same operating playbook to the AI character niche. No revenue has been disclosed, there's been no press coverage, and almost nobody talks about it on X. Few people know it exists.

If it were you

Verdict: worth a try, but don't expect the product to win it. This is a business where category willingness-to-pay is already proven and whoever runs creator distribution gets the traffic. Dulci showed that 200k installs from a month of creator campaigns can push into the top 50 grossing in small European language markets.

Good fit for: small teams that have run TikTok or Instagram creator campaigns and can calculate ROI from code-based payouts; ideally someone who speaks a European language beyond German, French, and Spanish, or who already moves in BookTok, BL, or K-pop fanfic circles and knows which micro-creators play on Character.AI; and teams that can front LLM costs.

Bad fit for: anyone hoping to differentiate on features like "long memory" or illustrations (every competitor has them, and one or two versions will close the gap); anyone aiming to win the English market first (home turf of Character.AI and Tipsy); anyone unwilling to touch 17+ content or unable to absorb takedown risk; anyone without budget to pay creators who is counting on organic store traffic.

How to do it: Launch on Google Play first. Go to iOS later and more carefully (Dulci's iOS version is already gone). Write the store page as "interactive story / writing," and rate it honestly 17+. Copy the monetization: daily check-in gives gems, gem packs, monthly/annual subscriptions with a gem allowance, and high-priced big bundles. Tier the models: light models cost fewer gems, heavy models cost more, so the inference cost goes straight to the user. Pick one niche community as the core content, like dark romance or BL. That's easier to push than generic "all kinds of stories."

How to get users: In each language, find 20–30 small to mid-tier creators. Give each one a unique code and offer a free week of membership. Settle payment by code, and after two weeks cut the ones that don't convert. Add two-sided invites (both sides get gems). Get character creators to "move" their characters over, since they bring their own fans. For languages, German, French, and Spanish already have Dulci and Tipsy. You could look first at Italian, Dutch, Polish, and Brazilian Portuguese (inference, I haven't verified how much competitors are spending on each).

When to move: Get the first batch of creator data in one language by the end of 2027 January. At least four or five copycats have appeared since September. If you wait longer, the good small creators will get priced up round by round.

Signs you've got it wrong: ① Dulci's German overall grossing rank drops back to outside #100 by the end of November. That would mean creators bring one-time trials and renewals can't hold. ② Google Play delists it or forces a rating change. That would mean the "story wrapper" route has been blocked. ③ Character.AI or Tipsy start mass-distributing creator codes in the same languages. That means the big players have entered, and small teams' creator costs get pushed up.

Why Dulci: AI Interactive Story (com.ai.dulci.chat) took off

Channel: Google Play | Developer: ORIGO Game (legal entity ORIGO ENTERTAINMENT PTE. LTD., Singapore, registered 2022-06) | Store launch 2026-09-18 | Research date 2026-11-06

Bottom line

Dulci didn't create this category. It is a fast follower in the 2026 wave of "AI interactive story / roleplay." A Singapore overseas team that started with AI photo and video tools (Hype AI 3M installs, MOVA 550k installs) packaged "AI character companion chat" as "interactive fiction", got it through review, and then used UGC creators from BookTok, romance fiction, and K-pop fan communities across Europe, the US, and Latin America, each with a unique redemption code (a week of membership or gems) to bring in users. Monetization is gems + PRO subscriptions and high-priced in-app purchases up to $299.99. It took off because of its distribution approach plus the paying demand this category had already proven. The product differentiation is weak.

1. Data: how fast it grew

Source: our googleplay library (app_day / chart_rank, from 2026-10-29).

  • Global cumulative installs: 2026-10-29 126,507 → 11-06 218,895,9 days +92k (about 10k/day, and accelerating: 11-05 +10,904, 11-06 +16,657).
  • Rating count: 2,894 → 4,785, with daily growth rising from 163 to about 280–306. Average rating 4.45, star breakdown 1–3 stars at 217, 4 stars 624, 5 stars 3,495 (app_snap 11-06). The rating-to-install ratio is about 2.2%, but only 207 reviews have written text, which suggests most ratings come from the in-app rating prompt.
  • Overall grossing chart (APPLICATION grossing) climbed steadily:
    • Germany 66(10-29) → 38(11-06); France 48 → 41; Spain 62 → 43;
    • US 187 → 83; Canada 113 → 58; UK 122 → 80; Mexico 76 → 59;
    • Charting countries grew from 8 to 14 (overall chart). It appeared in 19 store chart regions overall. Entertainment category grossing: #12 in Germany, France, and Spain, and #29 in the US.
  • Pricing: free to download. Replies and illustrations cost gems, and daily check-in gives free gems. Gem packs + Dulci PRO monthly/annual subscriptions. Single in-app purchases from $0.99–$299.99 (store page, 2026-11-06).
  • Store age rating Mature 17+, "Violence, Sexual Themes, Users Interact"; the description states 18+ (Google Play page).

How to read it: Revenue is strong relative to installs. 200k installs was enough to hit the German overall grossing chart at 38 and the US at 83, which points to high ARPU and the typical paying-user profile of AI companion and romance apps. Germany, France, and Spain outperform the US, which matches the languages their creators target (Spanish and German).

2. Competitors: who else does the same thing

The same chart (entertainment category grossing) is crowded with similar apps. Data from the googleplay library app_profile (2026-11-06):

Takeaway: There is no empty market. Dulci entered a red ocean that Character.AI, Tipsy, Emochi, and others have already validated for paying demand, arriving later.

3. Growth levers: where users come from

  1. UGC creators + unique redemption codes (confirmed, the main driver). A TikHub search on TikTok (2026-11-06) showed promo videos clustering from 2026-10-20 onward, all tagging @Dulci with personal codes:
    • veive.vex (10-28.3M views): "use our code E4X45WFG for a week of full membership on @Dulci #darkromance #maskedmen #BookTok";
    • tam_ugc_contentcreator (10-24.1M views, the account is literally named UGC content creator), with the same caption also appearing on an Instagram reel (De4lbPHNNjc);
    • scarlannie (10-2.45M views): "promo code Q479UD26 for 1 week free subscription";
    • fayliahh (Mexico, 10-2.72M): "usa mi código JZ9ENF8F para recompensas 💎";
    • hijafruta (Spain, 10-25) introduces her character on Dulci; jaden_skzboy97 (Germany, 10-27): "JADENVERSE IST JETZT AUCH AUF DULCI!" — a K-pop / BL character creator moved their character over to Dulci;
    • theonegurl85 (US, 10-20): "Join me on Dulci and we'll both get 300 gems. Use my referral code", tagged #LeeFelix (Stray Kids member). The playbook: find mid- and small-tier creators in BookTok / dark romance / K-pop fan fiction / character creation who already play on Character.AI, give each one a code. The code works as both an attribution tool (payouts by code) and a conversion hook (one week free membership → subscription trial → auto-renewal). There is also a user-referral mechanic (both sides get 300 gems). The timing (from 10-20) lines up with the install acceleration and the rapid climb on the grossing charts.
  2. Instagram Reels (confirmed to exist; whether paid promotion is involved is unverified): @dulci.app reels such as "meet characters who fall for you" and "create your own unique romantic adventures". The copy is far more direct than the store page and is clearly romance-oriented.
  3. Paid acquisition (unverified): our Meta ad library returns nothing for Dulci or ORIGO (that library only discovers via tool-category keywords and doesn't track this app). The Google ad library returns no_ads for legal entity / product name / domain (11-02); the TikTok ad library (Europe only) also returns no_ads (11-02). Chinese go-global teams often run ads through agency accounts, so "not found" doesn't mean no spend. The official TikTok account dulci.app has only 97 followers and 13 videos, so owned content is not the growth source; the link is dulci.go.link/tiktok (an attribution short link).
  4. Community word of mouth (small): a Reddit post on r/CharacterAI_No_Filter, "DULCI ! <3", praises it for proactively offering plot directions and adding twists. That suggests part of the growth comes from organic recommendations by people frustrated with Character.AI's filters.
  5. Store search / ASO: the name changed from "Dulci: Chat with AI Friends" (the old name left on apkpure / softonic / CNET) to "Dulci: AI Interactive Story", targeting search terms like "AI story". Its high placement in the German, French and Spanish category charts also brings in organic traffic.

4. Why it took off

  • Category paid demand is proven: AI companionship / romance roleplay has very strong willingness to pay among European and American female users and BookTok audiences (on the same charts, Tipsy's German grossing #10 and zeta's Japan-store #10). Once Dulci gets people in, the monetization model (gems + subscription + a $299.99 big pack) is ready to use.
  • Packaging "companionship" as "story" to get past review: the iOS version "Dulci: AI Character Chat" (id 6784084750,2026-09, last updated 09-19) has been pulled (AppBrain shows "No longer on the App Store", with only 8 ratings). The Play version was also renamed from "Chat with AI Friends" to "AI Interactive Story"; its description talks about novels, illustrations and writing, never mentioning romance, while the ad creatives say "characters who fall for you". This is a common route companionship apps have taken over the past 2026 years to get approved, and the iOS removal is quite possibly a policy issue (speculation, unverified).
  • The paid-acquisition and creator-operations capability of a tools-focused go-global team: ORIGO's website claims "30 million users in 160 countries", and its portfolio, Hype AI (Play 3.02M installs), MOVA (550k installs), BestShot, TattooX and CalCam, all follow a "build it → buy traffic" model. Dulci is the same playbook moved into the AI character niche.
  • Going first in non-English European markets: German, French and Spanish grossing ranks are far better than the US, and the creators include accounts with German, Spanish (Spain and Mexico), Polish and Georgian IP, which suggests concentrated spending in less competitive European language markets with high ARPU.

5. What the differentiation is, and whether it explains the breakout

Selling points from the store page: long memory (characters remember earlier chapters), optional story mode and tone, rewriting any passage, generating illustrations for key scenes, building custom characters and worlds, and a "quiet cinematic reading interface". Character.AI, Tipsy, Tizz and Talefy all have these, or could add one or two in a version. What is truly different is the positioning language (talking about "interactive fiction" rather than "AI girlfriend/boyfriend", which is friendlier to BookTok and novel readers and easier to get approved) and the creator redemption-code distribution. So: differentiation isn't the main reason it took off; the distribution playbook plus the category tailwind is.

6. How many people have seen it

  • No public revenue (not on TrustMRR, no founder sharing numbers); on X (x-radar corpus 60 days) 0 mentions; no media coverage; only a scattering of posts on Reddit.
  • Its visibility comes from creator videos it paid for itself, and industry observers have largely missed it, so few people know about it yet.
  • But the category itself is crowded: Mira, SeaChat "Live Your Story", Tizz and Afizzy launched the same day with the same template, and Dulci is itself a follower.

VII. What to take away

  1. Launch a sensitive category with "neutral" positioning and pull users in with direct creatives: the store page talks about stories and writing, the ads talk about romance.
  2. A dedicated code for each creator (one week free membership / gems): one code handles both attribution and conversion (subscription trial). Find niche small creators who already play rival apps (BookTok, dark romance, K-pop fan fiction, BL character creators); they convert better than general-entertainment big accounts.
  3. Go after small European languages (German, French, Spanish) and Latin America first; with moderate spend it can break into the top 50 of the overall grossing chart.
  4. Two-way invite rewards plus daily check-in gems: free users stick around, and activity stays up.

VIII. Unknowns

  • Whether large-scale buying happened on Meta / Google / TikTok through agency accounts: our library didn't find it, which doesn't mean it didn't happen.
  • Why the iOS version was pulled (speculated to be a review policy, unverified); whether it will return on iOS under the "Interactive Story" name.
  • Retention and real revenue: most ratings come from in-app prompts, there are few written reviews, and our library has no review samples. Grossing rank only shows that recent cash flow is decent.
  • Scale of creator partnerships: TikHub only found about 8 related videos; the real number is probably much higher (search coverage is limited).
