DepthPix: 4K Depth Wallpapers · Androholic

# Paid an Arabic tech blogger to post a video, and it added nearly 3,000 installs that day: a late-arriving Android depth wallpaper App

**What it is** An Android lockscreen wallpaper App that puts the clock behind the subject of your photo (the depth lockscreen like on iPhone). You can generate it from your own photos, and subscribe or buy Pro outright.

**Why it took off** The iPhone and Samsung depth lockscreens made the feature popular, and many Android users wanted it. The developer copied DepthX's Reddit code-giveaway playbook, then paid non-English tech TikTokers like Arabic creators to post videos. Each video bumped installs up a step.

**C** **How you could follow it** Stop making generic depth wallpapers and copy its acquisition: list non-English tech creators, give each one a link with UTM tracking, run a giveaway with codes in the video, and measure by installs. On the product side, pick a phone model with weak system support, or a fan community's theme, and niche down.

Grade C: the promotion playbook is clear and worth studying, but the category already has three million-install products and a string of copycat apps, and phone makers are building depth clocks into the system. DepthPix itself only took off on top of an existing template and accounts, so newcomers squeezing in now isn't a good bet. Few people know about it yet

DepthPix is an Android wallpaper App that hides the lockscreen clock behind the subject of your photo, the same depth lockscreen iPhone has had since iOS 16. It launched just over a month ago, has 28k installs, and gained 14k in the past week. It didn't create the category; three similar products had already reached millions of installs when it entered. The developer is a veteran of several years of wallpaper Apps, and the approach was to replay the promotion tactics earlier players had proven, paying overseas tech creators one by one to post videos. Below: how it grew, where the money comes from, who's competing, and whether there's still room for you in this category.

### An Egyptian-accented TikTok

2026 Oct 24: Arabic tech blogger @mobicray (143k TikTok followers) posted a video captioned "Make your lockscreen insanely beautiful 🔥 depth effect plus interactive clock, link in bio, tell me what you think in the comments." It got 23k views and 120 comments (TikTok, 11-06).

The comments were mostly his regulars asking phone questions: "Redmi can't do this, right? The clock on its home screen won't go away," "I have a Samsung A56, I've watched all your One UI 9 update videos," plus a few "تم" ("done") and "hope I win." I infer the video also came with a Pro membership giveaway.

The Linktree in his bio lists "DepthPix: خلفيات العمق" (DepthPix: depth wallpapers), with the parameters `utm_medium=creator&utm_campaign=creator_outreach`. That means the developer reached out to the creator directly and tracked results per person, a one-off partnership promotion. DepthPix's installs rose about 2,937 that day (AppstoreSpy estimate), then barely moved for the next two days.

Nov 4 (US time), another creator with 303k followers, @mcytech, posted "Level up your Samsung lockscreen🤩" and got 13k views. His Linktree was only created in November and contains just one link: DepthPix.

### What it is

An Android lockscreen wallpaper App. Pick one of your photos (a person, pet, car, or landscape all work), and it cuts out the subject on your phone, auto-generates three designs, and lets the clock sit behind or in front of the subject. It also has a 4K depth wallpaper library, 140 clock fonts, 3D parallax that moves with the phone's tilt, and particle effects like rain, snow, fireflies, and cherry blossoms. The latest version specifically adapts to the Galaxy Z Fold's cover screen.

The store page says "your first 3 photo designs are free." Pro unlocks all wallpapers, more photo generations, advanced 3D effects, more particle effects, and ad removal.

The developer is Androholic, who has been making wallpaper Apps for several years: AmoledPix was recommended on Reddit 2021 years ago, and AnimePix: Anime Wallpapers has 4K with 100k+ installs (AppBrain). They also run a YouTube channel with 24.1K subscribers and an Instagram account.

### Numbers: climbing one step at a time with each video

- The Google Play launch date reads 2026-09-19. However, an Instagram post from Sep 23 still says "comment DepthPix to get the pre-registration link," and only in Oct 5 did it switch to telling people to download. I infer September was the pre-registration period and public downloads opened in early October.

- Installs (AppstoreSpy estimate plus Google Play installs): 10-10 about 1,257,10-20, about 7,600,10-24, rising to about 12,662,10-29, then 10-31 to 13,897 and holding at 12. In the first two or three days of November it added another 11-06k, reaching 28,070. In the last 7 days: +14,173.

- The curve rises in steps, not smoothly. One step lines up exactly with @mobicray's video. The biggest step in early November (about +7,900 in one go) has no matching video I could find; it may be a different creator, unverified.

- 478 ratings, 4.57 stars (10-29 it was 328 ratings, 4.4 stars). The rating count is about 1.7% of installs, which is high. The YouTube bio says "don't forget to leave a good review," so I infer the App also shows a rating prompt.

- Each day it charts #16 to #124 on the Personalization Top Grossing chart in 132 countries, with nearly identical ranks across countries. I infer this is a low-bar aggregated chart, which says nothing about how much revenue it makes.

### Where users come from

| Channel | Approach | Results |
|---|---|---|
| Regional TikTok tech creators | Paid partnerships, one Linktree link with UTM per creator, so results can be tracked per person | Main channel; install steps follow the videos |
| Reddit code giveaways | Posted "80 Premium codes, celebrating the launch" on r/HowToMen | Trading for early ratings and reputation |
| Own YouTube / Instagram | 10-06 YouTube promo video, 447 views; IG used "comment a keyword, get the link by DM" for pre-registration | For cold starts; doesn't bring much volume |
| Store search | Titles stuffed with depth, clock, 4K, parallax, with titles localized per language (Spanish "Fondos con Reloj 4K", Arabic "خلفيات العمق") | Hard to quantify its contribution |

Neither the Reddit giveaway nor the creator giveaway was invented by DepthPix. DepthX posted a giveaway in the same r/HowToMen subforum in May in the same format, and TikTok had creators saying "DM me and I'll send you a DepthX" (about 300k views). DepthX now has 2.28M installs. What DepthPix added: instead of waiting for creators to come to it, it went looking for non-English tech accounts. Those accounts charge less, and their followers trust them.

No DepthPix ads turned up in the Meta Ad Library (the library only tracks products on its list, so not finding them doesn't mean none ran). No media coverage, and nobody on X has mentioned it.

### Where the money comes from

In-app purchases of $2.79 to $20.99, with a monthly subscription and a lifetime one-time purchase (the Reddit giveaway codes were monthly subscriptions), plus ads. Revenue is not public. A sign that people want Pro: by late October several cracked versions had surfaced. A GitHub patch project had a request titled "DepthPix, unlock Premium, remove ads", there's a thread on the Platinmods forum 10-30, and a Chinese download site 10-31 also lists a "premium version".

### Who it's competing with: a crowded category

| Product | Launched | Google Play installs (11-06) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Depth Wallpapers & Live Clock(JustNewDesigns) | 2025-11 | 4.04M, 7 days +94k | The earliest leader; the same company also released an anime version, 279k |
| Liquid Lock Screen: KaLock | 2026-05 | 3.44M, 7 days +403k | A full iOS liquid-glass-style lockscreen, where depth is just one feature |
| DepthX - Live Clock Wallpapers | 2026-05 | 2.28M, 7 days +121k | DepthPix's promotion approach was copied from it |
| Depth Wallpaper Live Clock 4K(ThemeCraft) | 2026-06 | 92k, +13k in 7 days | A late arrival in the same tier as DepthPix |
| DepthFX, Depthify, KLWP, and others | 2014–2024 | KLWP 3.8M | Earlier pioneers and DIY tools |

The leader's weekly new installs are several times DepthPix's cumulative total. What it really does differently comes down to two things: a smoother flow for generating multiple designs from your own photos, and adaptation for the foldable cover screen. It got going because of promotion, not because the product is better than the others.

The bigger competitor is the phone makers themselves. Samsung One UI 8.5 / 9, ColorOS 17, and Motorola's Android 17 all built depth clocks into the system in 2026, and TikTok tutorials on "how to turn on the Samsung depth lockscreen" have reached 2.33M views. It's built in and free, so new users for this kind of App will keep shrinking. For now, though, the tutorial wave is sending users to third-party Apps: models the system version doesn't support (the Redmi users in @mobicray's comments), or people who find the system version too basic, search the store.

### If it were you

**C.** The promotion playbook is worth learning, but the category itself isn't worth squeezing into right now: there are already three million-install products, a string of small copies follows behind, and phone makers are building the feature into the system. DepthPix gets volume because its developer already had templates and accounts and went after creators one by one, not because there's open space here.

**Who it fits** : people who already have a wallpaper, theme, or lockscreen App, with ready-made content production and subscription templates, who can ship a new pack within a week by switching themes. For you, one more pack costs little, and it's fine to ride a wave and leave.

**Who it doesn't fit** : people starting from scratch who want to build a long-term product around this one App. Anyone can copy the features, new installs will drop once the system version spreads, and you won't get the leader's natural traffic of hundreds of thousands a week.

**How to do it** : if you do it, don't make generic depth wallpapers. Pick a niche the leaders haven't covered: a phone model whose system version is weak or missing (Xiaomi, Redmi, Tecno, and the like, where the comments show specific demand), a fan community's content (anime, sports teams, cars; JustNewDesigns' anime version already has 279k), or first polish details like selfie generation and foldable support. Copy the monetization: a few free uses, then a monthly subscription plus a lifetime purchase, plus ads.

**How to get users** : this section is the most useful takeaway. First list non-English tech creators (Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, Turkish), give each one a Linktree link with `utm_source=creator name`, and you'll see on install day who's worth the price. Pair the video with a Pro code giveaway to get the comments going. Before launch, post code giveaways in recommendation subforums like r/HowToMen to get the first ratings, and localize the store titles by language.

**When to get in** : system-level depth lockscreens only spread in the second half of 2026, while vendor tutorials are hot, and third-party Apps are still living off search volume during this window. To catch it, launch before Q1 2027. After that, the more One UI 9 and Android 17 coverage grows, the fewer new installs this kind of App gets.

**When you'd be misreading it** : ① If the top players (DepthX, KaLock, JustNewDesigns) have lost more than half their weekly installs within a few months, the system's built-in features are already eating the demand and the category is winding down; ② If DepthPix's daily installs fell to a few dozen once it stopped paying bloggers, there's no organic traffic here and everything depends on paid acquisition; ③ Conversely, if it still holds above 4.5 weekly new installs and a rating of 4.5 or higher through year-end, late followers still have room in this category, and the grade could move up.

Where users come from

- **Confirmed** **TikTok tech creators paid promo** : @mobicray (143K followers) posted a video on 2026-10-24. Its Linktree link carries utm_medium=creator&utm_campaign=creator_outreach. Installs were up about +2,937 that day. @mcytech (303K followers) posted on 11-04. Its newly created Linktree lists only DepthPix

- **Confirmed** **Reddit giveaway** : r/HowToMen posted "DepthPix Wallpaper App 80 Premium Codes. Launch Celebration", giving away monthly subscription codes. It copies the same post format DepthX used on 2026-05

- **Verified** **own YouTube / Instagram** : YouTube @androholic (24.1K subscribers) 10-06 promo videos with 447 views; IG uses "comment a keyword, get the link by DM" for pre-registration (9-23) and download nudges, with very low engagement

- Inferred **Store search / ASO** : Title and description are stuffed with depth / clock / 4K / parallax keywords, and titles are localized per language. The contribution can't be quantified

- Inferred **In-app rating prompt** : The ratings-to-installs ratio is about 1.7%, which is high. The YouTube description also asks for reviews

- Inferred **Paid ads** : Not found in the Meta Ad Library (metaads). No other evidence

## How DepthPix: 4K Depth Wallpapers (com.androholic.wallpapersdepthpix) got this far

In one line: it's an Android "depth clock" wallpaper app that places the lock screen clock behind the subject of your photo (an effect iOS has had since 16). You can generate it from your own photos. **It's really a small-studio follower** : veteran wallpaper developer Androholic, with his own YouTube and Instagram accounts, added a product to a category where DepthX, Depth Wallpapers & Live Clock and others had already reached millions of installs. Then he paid overseas tech creators to promote it on TikTok, and installs came in waves pushed by their videos. 28K installs is tiny for this category. The top apps' single-week new installs are several times that apps's total.

### 1. Data (googleplay library, as of 2026-11-06)

- 28,070 total installs, +7 in the last 14,173 days. 478 ratings at 4.57 stars (10-29 is 328 ratings at 4.4 stars). The ratings-to-installs ratio is about 1.7%, which is high. That suggests an in-app rating prompt (the YouTube description also says "Don't Forget to add your Review"). The star distribution only has 1 / 3 / 5 star buckets. The sample is too small and Google only gives approximations.

- Store launch date: 2026-09-19. But Instagram's 9-23 post says "comment DepthPix to get the **pre-registration** link". The 10-05 Reel and the 10-06 YouTube video say "Download DepthPix". So 9-19 is likely when the pre-registration page went live, and downloads actually opened around early October.

- Install curve (googleplay.app_day_ext, AppstoreSpy estimates plus our own observations): 10-10 1,257 → 10-13 2,304 → 10-17 4,404 → 10-20 7,600 → 10-23 9,725 → **10-24 12,662 (about +2,937 in a single day)** → 10-27 13,897 (almost flat for two days) → 11-01 17,706 → **11-02 25,644 (about +7,938)** → 11-04 28,070. The trend is step-shaped, not smooth growth, and it lines up with when the creator videos went up (see section 3).

- Revenue: it has in-app purchases at $2.79–$20.99 (a monthly subscription plus a lifetime one-time purchase; the Reddit giveaway post mentions the "monthly subscription"), and it also shows ads. It charts daily at #107–#132 on the Personalization Top Grossing chart in 16 countries, but the ranks are nearly identical across countries, so it's probably one aggregated chart. The bar is low, and the chart doesn't reveal revenue scale.

- Developer Androholic: store tagline "PERFECT APPS FOR PERFECT USERS". Also behind AnimePix: Anime Wallpapers 4K (AppBrain shows 100K+), AmoledPix (recommended on Reddit 2021 years ago), and DopeWalls (since removed). The official site is depthpix.com, but the privacy policy is hosted under amoledpix.com. The YouTube channel @androholic has 24.1K subscribers. The Instagram is the_androholic, and a separate @depthpix account was also opened.

### 2. Competitors (the category is already crowded)

| Product | Where | Launched | Scale (googleplay library 11-06) | How it differs from DepthPix |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Depth Wallpapers & Live Clock(JustNewDesigns) | Android | 2025-11-21 | 4.04M installs, +7K in 94 days, #15 on Brazil's Personalization Top Grossing | An early leader in the category: wallpaper library plus clock. The same studio also released Anime Depth Wallpapers (2026-7.28M), following the same themed spin-off approach as Androholic |
| DepthX - Live Clock Wallpapers(AppsLab Co.) | Android | 2026-05-15 | 2.28M, 7 days +121k | DepthPix's growth playbook is largely copied from it: the r/HowToMen giveaway post (2026-05) and the TikTok creator "DM me for a free DepthX" (jokiijrt, about 300K views) |
| Liquid Lock Screen: KaLock(3D Viet Ha) | Android | 2026-05-07 | 3.44M, 7 days +403k | Pitched as a full iOS-style "liquid glass" lock screen set. Depth is just one feature |
| Depth Wallpaper Live Clock 4K(ThemeCraft Studio) | Android | 2026-06-24 | 92k, +13k in 7 days | Same-period small-studio follower, about the same scale as DepthPix |
| DepthFX Wallpaper | Android | Around 2024 (there was an r/Android thread about it in 2024) | Not verified | An earlier pioneer, skewed toward Samsung |
| Depthify 3D Wallpaper & Clock, depthclock.com, and others | Android / web | Not verified | Not verified | Me-too products |
| KLWP / Kustom, Good Lock | Android | From ¥2014 | KLWP 3.8M | Players build depth effects by hand with it. High barrier |
| iOS 16+ lock screen depth | Big-company features | 2022 | All iPhones | This demand comes from here |
| Samsung One UI 8.5 / 9, ColorOS 17, Motorola Android 17 system-level depth clocks | Big-company features | 2026 | TikTok tutorials often reach millions of views (dominictorresm0's video: 2.33M) | Built into the OS and free. The biggest long-term threat to apps like this |

Conclusion: DepthPix didn't pioneer this. When it entered (2026-10), the category already had three million-install products. It's one of the later followers.

### 3. Growth tactics (with evidence)

1. **Paid promotion through overseas tech creators on TikTok: confirmed, and the main channel.**
    - @mobicray (an Arabic-language tech account, 143K followers) posted "Make your lock screen ridiculously beautiful… link in bio" on 2026-10-24. Views were about 23K, with 120 comments. Its Linktree lists "DepthPix: خلفيات العمق". The link carries `utm_source=mobicray&utm_medium=creator&utm_campaign=creator_outreach`, which clearly marks a developer-initiated creator partnership. Installs were up about +2,937 that day, which matches.
    - @mcytech (303K followers) posted "Level up your Samsung lockscreen" on 2026-11-04, with about 13K views. Its Linktree was only created in November and lists just one link: DepthPix.
    - The 11-02 bump of +7,938 doesn't match a specific video. It could be another creator, or an Instagram or YouTube creator (unverified).

2. **Owned accounts.** Androholic's YouTube (24.1K subscribers) ran a promo video that got only 10-06 447 views. On Instagram, auto-replies ('comment the keyword, we'll DM you the link') handled pre-registration and download prompts; single posts got single-digit to low-teens likes. Owned accounts served as cold-start support and drove little volume.

3. **Reddit giveaway.** r/HowToMen posted "DepthPix Wallpaper App 80 Premium Codes. Launch Celebration" (giving away monthly subscription codes). The format matches a post DepthX ran on the same subreddit 2026-05. Free Pro access is traded for early ratings and word of mouth.

4. **Store search / ASO.** The title and description are stuffed with depth wallpaper, clock, 4K, parallax, and lock screen. Titles are localized per language (Spanish "Fondos con Reloj 4K", Arabic "خلفيات العمق"). Google search referrers carry utm_term. The contribution can't be quantified.

5. **Paid ads: not found.** DepthPix and Androholic don't appear in the Meta Ad Library (metaads). That library only tracks a fixed list of products, so not appearing there doesn't mean no ads ran. On X, there's zero mention. No press coverage either, only auto-generated pages from download sites like CNET Download, Softonic, and AppBrain.

### 4. Why it took off

- **The demand already existed, and platforms created it.** iOS depth lock screens became the aesthetic standard. Samsung One UI 8.5 / 9, ColorOS 17, and Android 17 followed suit over 2026. TikTok tutorials on "how to do depth on Android" reach hundreds of thousands to millions of views. Android users who haven't upgraded, or whose OS version handles it poorly, keep searching for and watching third-party options.

- **It copies a playbook that has already worked.** DepthX went from 2026-05 to 2.28M using Reddit giveaways and creator "DM for a code" campaigns. DepthPix ran the same play in October, plus creator promotion with UTM tracking. Installs came in waves as the videos went up.

- **The developer has the groundwork.** Androholic has run wallpaper apps for years (AmoledPix, AnimePix 100K+). He has ready-made wallpaper content production, a subscription monetization template, and owned social accounts, so he could launch a new product in a new theme quickly.

- **Retention and paid conversion look OK, but none of it can be verified.** Rating went from 4.4 to 4.57. Someone has already cracked the Pro version (GitHub hxreborn/morphe-patches' UnlockPremiumPatch, a Platinmods post from 10-30, HappyMod, and the "premium" version on the Chinese site lewz.cn 10-31). So people want the Pro features.

### 5. Differentiation

Selling points visible on the store page: cut out the subject from your own photo on the phone, auto-generate 3 designs, first 3 free; 140+ clock fonts, with the clock placed in front of or behind the subject; 3D parallax and particle effects (rain, snow, fireflies, cherry blossoms); latest version is tuned for the Galaxy Z Fold cover screen; Pro can be bought without logging in. Most of the leading competitors have these too, or will add them soon. DepthPix's real differences are just two: the "generate multiple designs from a selfie" flow is smoother, and it's tuned for foldable cover screens. **Differentiation is not why it took off.** Installs follow creator videos, not organic word of mouth.

### 6. How visible it is

The product itself is barely known: no press coverage, zero mentions on X, revenue not public, and it shows up mainly in creator videos and download sites. But the "Android depth-effect clock wallpaper" niche is already crowded (three million-install products plus a string of smaller ones), and device makers are gradually building this feature in.

### 7. Takeaways

- "Cheap regional tech creators + Linktree link with UTM": attribution down to each creator, which is cost-effective for a small team. Non-English creators in Arabic and Spanish are cheaper, and localized titles can tap that traffic too.

- Use an old account network (YouTube / IG) plus "comment a keyword, get the link by DM" to run pre-registration cold start first; post giveaway codes on Reddit recommendation subreddits to get early ratings.

- Take a wallpaper app template (content, subscriptions, ASO), reskin it with a new theme, and ship quickly to ride the gap as iOS new features reach Android.

### 8. Still unclear

- Which creator drove the 11-02 +7,938 spike; how much a creator video costs and the cost per install; actual subscription revenue.

- Was 9-19 through early October a pre-registration period (inferred from IG copy)? What is the current state of AnimePix, and what are AmoledPix's install numbers?

- Platform risk: once depth effects become standard at the system level in One UI 9 and Android 17, will new installs for this category collapse?
