# "After Effects on your phone": an app built by an Indonesian video editor, with zero ad spend, reached 90k installs in six weeks

**What it is** A layer-based motion graphics video editor for Android that brings After Effects' curve editing, 3D camera, 3D tracking and puppet pins to the phone, competing with Alight Motion.

**Why it took off** Alight Motion has a huge user base but updates slowly and its subscription is expensive. The developer is part of the editing community, sent beta builds to editors before launch as previews, and after launch people posted their work credited "app by @Angkin", spreading with zero ads.

**C** **How you could follow it** Don't build another mobile AE. Copy its cold-start playbook: inside a creator community you already belong to, pick a tool category whose leader has stopped updating and make an "X killer," giving beta builds to insiders first and having their work credit the app. If you want to ride alongside it, build an iOS version or sell presets and project files to its users.

Grade C: the playbook is worth learning, but following it isn't worth it. The technical bar is high, the "AM killer" spot is already taken by it, estimated revenue is under $10k a month and daily growth is declining, and the cold start depended on the developer's standing in the community, which followers can't get. Keyflow is an Android motion-graphics editor built by Indonesian indie developer Angkin. It launched in Sep 25, reached 90,739 installs worldwide by Nov 6, and ranked #47 in Indonesia's video Top Grossing chart. It took off not because it found a new need, but because Alight Motion's long-time users had been waiting years for a new tool, and the person who made it was already a familiar face in their circle. Below: how it took off, how much money it makes, and whether you can follow it.

### A 146k-view preview posted 9 days before launch

In Sep 16, a TikTok editor named @imfinera posted a video captioned "preview timeline typography test app by @Angkin": a text animation made with an app not yet on the store. The video got 146k views. The same day, @yuukaonlyone_ posted a preview too. On Instagram someone wrote: "preview editing in Keyflow apps. not release yet. more info in my server." Before launch, Angkin already had a community server, and beta builds had gone out to a group of editors.

9 days later Keyflow went live on Google Play. For the next month or more, searching "keyflow" on TikTok turned up nothing but the same kind of video: a showy motion piece with "app by @Angkin" in the corner.

### What it is

A mobile video editor that animates by layer. The first line of the store page reads: "a layer-based mobile video and photo editor built for creators who want real creative control — not just presets."

People who build in this space know exactly who it's competing with: Alight Motion, launched 2018 years ago, with 176M installs on Google Play and ranked #6 in Indonesia's video Top Grossing chart (Google Play data, 11-06). The AMV, anime edit and text-animation scenes across Southeast Asia almost all use it.

Keyflow's pitch is bringing things Alight Motion lacks, things you could previously only do on a computer in After Effects, onto the phone:

- An AE-style speed/value curve editor (the most important part for tuning easing)

- 3D camera with null objects

- Motion blur, time remapping, roto masking brush

- 3D tracking, stabilizer (11-04's 1.5.8 version was just added)

- A puppet pin tool that can make anime-style character animation like Live2D (Angkin 11-04's TikTok: 'Now Keyflow can use puppet tools')

Free to download, no ads, in-app purchases for premium features at $1.09 to $16.99 each. No iOS version (not findable on the App Store, 11-06).

### Who makes it

Angkin has 142,8,699 followers on TikTok under @angkin. His bio reads "owner Neucurve and Keyflow." Neucurve is an After Effects easing plugin he sold earlier, on his own site and on Payhip. Before that, he sold Alight Motion presets on TikTok. One video from 2025 October says "day 2 belajar mograph di AM" (day two of learning motion graphics in Alight Motion) and has 100K views.

In other words, he sits in both the AE and AM circles: he knows what AE users can't live without (the curve editor), knows what AM users are missing, and knows a group of editors who post work across both. That is the precondition for his zero-budget cold start, and the part hardest for others to copy.

### Where users come from: editors advertise for him

Every channel you can find is organic, and none is paid (the Meta ad library shows no ads for it; the official account @keyflow.official has 362 followers and 0 posts, 11-06).

**TikTok works and tutorials are the main channel.** The biggest results from searching keyflow:

| Video | Views | Topic |
|---|---|---|
| @trashedit12 (170k followers) | 601k | Tutorial breaking down character animation |
| @skozyman3,10-04 | 392k | "keyflow is going to be so peak" |
| @azskun | 115k | 3D tracking tutorial |
| @biyyyy._0 | 73k | "Keyflow udh rilis di Playstore" (it's out on the Play Store) |
| @kyuzz_ry,11-04 | 56k | "nyari lancar: keyflow" (looking for something smooth: keyflow) |
| @angkin142 himself, 10-07 | 47k | 3D cube tutorial |

The people posting videos about it are from Indonesia, Thailand (@sayuchanvfx), the Philippines, and Hong Kong/Taiwan (@meitangge_edit: "the operation is similar to Alight Motion, and the effects are close to NodeVideo…"). That lines up with the countries where it charts: 11-06 Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam all have it in the top 90 of the video category's Top Free chart, and the US is #103 (it only charted 11-03).

This loop is the same way Alight Motion took off: good-looking work → someone asks "what did you make this with?" → the app name is in the corner → download. Motion tools spread this way by nature, because every piece of work users post is a demo of the features.

**YouTube is full of "Alight Motion killers."** The titles all follow the same template: "Is This The End of Alight Motion? Keyflow First Impressions," "KeyFlow vs Alight Motion (Full Test)," "Stop Using Other Mobile Editors Until You Try KeyFlow," plus a full Hindi tutorial and "No More After Effects Use Keyflow (Free Project File)." Angkin is running the same playbook itself: 10-27 posted "Keyflow 3 hours vs after effect 3 days."

**The Alight Motion subreddit.** r/AlightMotion has threads like "Guess we got a competitor now" and "Alight Motion is Cooked," and someone opened a separate r/KeyFlowCommunity.

**There's an uninvited channel too: cracked sites.** Starting from v1.1.0, platinmods and happymod have had cracked Premium versions, and TikTok has people posting "KeyFlow PREMIUM V1.4.8" download links. Awareness goes up, and revenue leaks out.

### Why now

**The big one has stalled.** Alight Motion still added 428k installs a week (Google Play data, 11-06), and plenty of people use it, but users complain it updates slowly and the subscription is expensive (someone on Reddit says the annual plan is $29.99). Many just use modded versions instead: Gold Motion, GoldFlow, After Motion Z and similar APKs are basically AM mods. One Reddit comment puts it bluntly: "Alight motion doesnt get huge updates at all". People are waiting for something new, and in recent years no standalone app that is properly listed and clearly moves toward AE has appeared.

**The features themselves spread the app.** Curve editor, 3D camera, and 3D tracking produce results that suit a "look, you can do this on a phone" post, which works better than any ad.

**Fast updates, and every update is exposure.** Over a bit more than a month it went from 1.1 to 1.5.8, adding stabilizer, track points, and puppet pins one by one, and each addition brought a new batch of tutorials.

### What users say

On Google Play it has a 4.8 rating, and the review count grows by 12 to 22 a day (11-06). Most of the praise comes from veteran editors. The earliest review, from Oct 3, reads: "this app looks like alight motion but its like more simpler and more good……i've been editing for 3 years……overall 10/10" (62 people found it helpful).

The complaints focus on two things. First, missing basics: "there are basic features of an editing software that are missing here. one of them is the Clipping/Track matte feature" (10-14,47 people found it helpful). Second, instability: "I spent two full days editing a video in KeyFlow. Today, when I was about to export it……my project layers got messed up" (10-09). TikTok also has "Keyflow won't let me export". On Reddit the verdict is "only advantage for now is its after effects graphs" and "puppet pins laggy", with some saying they use Keyflow for puppet animation but still cut video in AM.

One-star reviews on 11-06 rose by 25, and the rating dropped from 4.87 to 4.74. I didn't find the specific cause; my guess is it's tied to export and crash problems in the new version.

### How much money

Not many, at least not yet. In the Indonesian video category's Top Grossing chart it fell from #10-29 on 32 to #11-06 on 47, and no other country has made the grossing chart. A third-party estimate from AppGoblin puts monthly actives at about 34k and monthly revenue under $10k (unverified).

Installs are slowing down. Per AppstoreSpy's estimates, 10-13 was 32k, 10-21 was 64k, 10-28 was 75k, and 11-05 was 91k. Daily growth went from three to five thousand in mid-October to one or two thousand in early November. The novelty is fading.

This is a low-price, Southeast Asia, young-user business: in-app purchases starting at $1.09 with no ads suit what this audience can pay, but that is also the ceiling. Add the revenue leaked to cracked versions, and one person can do well with it; turning it into a company is a long way off.

### Who's competing

| Product | Scale (Google Play, 11-06) | Versus Keyflow |
|---|---|---|
| Alight Motion | 176M installs, +428k in 7 days | The original, with the largest ecosystem of presets, templates, and tutorials; no AE-style curves or 3D tracking |
| Node Video | 13.2M, 7 days +51k | Leans toward node compositing and effects, not a layer timeline |
| Motion Ninja | 18.1M, no longer growing | Templates plus keyframes, essentially no longer updated |
| CapCut / VN / KineMaster | 300M to 2B | General-purpose editing with shallow keyframes, no motion graphics |
| Blurrr | 6.1M | Beat-sync and template effects |
| AM mods (Gold Motion, etc.) | APK distribution, not in the store | Can't be listed properly |

I haven't seen a new app that specifically copies Keyflow yet. The real threat is Alight Motion itself: the day it adds a curve editor, Keyflow's biggest selling point is gone.

### If it were you

**C.** What's worth learning is its cold-start playbook, not the product itself. Mobile motion editors have a very high technical bar (rendering, 3D tracking, export stability), and Keyflow already holds the "AM killer" position. Its revenue is estimated at under $10k a month, and daily growth is falling. If you build one now, you'll most likely be the second Keyflow, splitting a smaller pie.

**Who it suits:** someone who already has standing in a creator community: they've made plugins, sold presets, and know a group of people who publish work, and who can also write low-level graphics code. Or someone who wants the part Keyflow hasn't done: an iOS version (Keyflow doesn't have one, AM does), or selling presets, templates, and project files to Keyflow users (Angkin's own start was exactly this, with a much lower bar).

**Who it doesn't suit:** developers outside the scene, where nobody knows you and nobody reposts "app by @you"; and anyone planning to rely on paid acquisition, since this audience has low spending power and high piracy, so buying traffic won't pencil out.

**How to do it:** find a creator-tool category where "the big one has stopped updating and users are surviving on mods" (mobile motion graphics, mobile photo retouching, and mobile music production are all worth a look), move one or two of the desktop pro software's signature features onto mobile, and position directly against it as "X killer". If you build an iOS motion editor, make export and project saving solid first: half of Keyflow's bad reviews are about lost projects and failed exports.

**How to get users:** before launch, start a Discord and send the beta to 20 to 50 scene editors, asking them to credit the app when they post their work. Work → curiosity → download is the cheapest acquisition loop for motion tools. Also post a tutorial weekly yourself, one video per new feature.

**When you need to be early:** if you're building an iOS "mobile AE", get there before Keyflow ships its own iOS version. It has shipped more than a dozen versions in just over a month, so you may only have a few months.

**Signs you've misjudged it:** ① Keyflow's daily installs climb back above 5 thousand a day in December, or it enters the Top Grossing charts in the US or the Philippines. That would mean the business is bigger than estimated, and following it is more worthwhile. ② Alight Motion adds a curve editor and 3D camera in the next few months. Keyflow's differentiator is gone and the whole path narrows. ③ Keyflow releases an iOS version. Then the iOS gap is closed.

## Keyflow - mobile editing app (com.angkin.keyflow) research report

Date: 2026-11-06 · Store: Google Play · Developer: Angkin (Indonesian indie dev "kinz")

### One line

An indie developer from Indonesia's editing scene brought the After Effects feature set (graph editor, 3D camera + null, motion blur, roto, 3D tracking, puppet pins) to Android. On TikTok's editing community he posted previews first, then after launch relied on editors posting "app by @Angkin" work and tutorials, packaging it as an "Alight Motion killer", which reached about 90k installs in just over a month. No paid ads, no press coverage.

### 1. Data

- Installs: 90,739 worldwide cumulative (googleplay library app_snap, 2026-11-06); 7 days +15,845 (app_profile). Per AppstoreSpy's estimate, 10-13 has 32,249,10-21 64,195,10-28 74,894,11-05 90,739 (googleplay library app_day_ext). Daily growth fell from about 3–5 thousand in mid-October to about 1.3–2.3 thousand in early November. It's slowing, not accelerating.

- Rating: 886 reviews, 4.74 stars. 11-06 saw 25 one-star reviews for the first time, and the rating dropped from 4.87 to 4.74 (app_snap histogram). The reviews may point to export and crash issues (on TikTok: "Keyflow won't let me export"). The review count grows by 12–22 a day, more steadily than installs.

- Charts (chart_rank): Indonesia VIDEO_PLAYERS Top Grossing 32→47 (10-29 to 11-06, trending down); Indonesia same-category Top Free 94→57; Philippines Top Free 174→72; US Top Free 186→103 (only entered the chart on 11-03). Only Indonesia has made the grossing category chart.

- Monetization: free to download, no ads, in-app purchases from $1.09–$16.99. A third-party estimate from AppGoblin puts monthly actives at about 34k and monthly revenue under $10k (appgoblin.info, unverified).

- Released 2026-09-25 (store release = date of first review, no reset possible). Versions ship fast: late October 1.4.8,11-03 1.5.7,11-04 1.5.8 (latest version added a stabilizer and tracking points).

### II. Competitors

| Product | Where | Launched | Scale | How it differs from Keyflow |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alight Motion | Android/iOS | 2018 | 176M installs, 7 days +428k; Indonesia video Top Grossing #6 (googleplay library) | The original. Layers + keyframes done early, largest ecosystem (presets, XML, mods). Annual subscription $29.99 (Reddit post). Users complain about slow updates and a heavy paywall. Keyflow goes beyond it with AE-style speed/value curves, 3D camera + null, roto, 3D tracking, puppet pins |
| Node Video | Android/iOS | 2020 | 13.2M, 7 days +51k | Leans toward node compositing and effects, high learning curve, no AE-style timeline |
| Motion Ninja | Android | 2020 | 18.1M, growth no longer visible in the library | Templates plus keyframes, updates have essentially stopped |
| CapCut / VN / KineMaster | Android/iOS | 2013–2020 | 300M to 2B | Focuses on general editing and templates, shallow keyframes, no mograph |
| Blurrr | Android/iOS | 2023 | 6.1M | Focuses on beat-sync and template effects, no professional layer animation |
| Gold Motion / GoldFlow / After Motion Z / Nova / Aurea | APK (most likely a modded AM build) | 2025–2026 | Not in the Play library, scale unknown | Reddit says these are Alight Motion mods. Keyflow is a standalone app written from scratch that can list properly on Play |
| AbsentMotion | Personal project | 2026 | One Reddit thread | Another indie dev building an AM alternative, not yet a real force |
| After Effects | Desktop | 1993 | Industry standard | Keyflow's pitch is "AE on your phone" (a video is titled "Keyflow 3 hours vs After Effects 3 days") |

Bottom line: the category has one clear leader (Alight Motion) and a pile of mods, but in recent years there has been no new, properly listed, independent product that moves clearly toward AE in features. Keyflow fills that gap.

### 3. Growth tactics (evidence)

1. **The founder is a known editing-scene KOL, pre-launch hype** (confirmed). TikTok @angkin142 has 8,699 followers, 167k likes, bio reads "owner Neucurve and Keyflow". He previously sold Alight Motion presets and made Neucurve, an AE easing plugin (neuracamp.web.id, payhip), so people in the AE and AM scenes already knew him. On 9-16, 9 days before launch, editor @imfinera posted "preview timeline typography test app by @Angkin" with 146k views; @yuukaonlyone_ posted a preview the same day. An Instagram post says "preview editing in Keyflow apps. not release yet. more info in my server", meaning a community server (likely Discord) existed before launch.

2. **Editors post work and tutorials on their own, crediting the app** (confirmed, this is the main channel). Searching TikTok for keyflow turns up many videos tagged "app by @Angkin": @skozyman3 "keyflow is going to be so peak" 392k views (10-04); @trashedit12 (170k followers) character breakdown tutorial 601k views; @azskun 3D tracking tutorial 115k; @biyyyy._0 "Keyflow udh rilis di Playstore" 73k; @kyuzz_ry (57k followers) "nyari lancar: keyflow" 56k (11-04). Posters are in Indonesia, Thailand (@sayuchanvfx), the Philippines, and Hong Kong/Taiwan (@meitangge_edit: "operation similar to Alight Motion, effects and NodeVideo…"), matching the chart countries: id, ph, th, vn, my rank best.

3. **YouTube comparison and tutorial videos, titles all "AM killer"** (confirmed): "Is This The End of Alight Motion? Keyflow First Impressions", "Understanding Keyflow... the Alight Motion Killer", "KeyFlow vs Alight Motion (Full Test)", "Stop Using Other Mobile Editors Until You Try KeyFlow", plus a full Hindi tutorial and "No More After Effects Use Keyflow (Free Project File)".

4. **The Alight Motion Reddit community** (confirmed): r/AlightMotion has threads like "Guess we got a competitor now", "Alight Motion is Cooked", and "Keyflow vs AlightMotion", and someone opened r/KeyFlowCommunity. Reviews are mixed: "only advantage for now is its after effects graphs", "puppet pins laggy", "for puppet animation pick Keyflow, for video editing it's still AM".

5. **Repost and cracked-app sites** (confirmed, not intentional marketing): Softonic, CNET Download, APKPure, and AppBrain auto-index it; platinmods, android-zone, happymod, and apkmb have cracked Premium builds since v1.1.0, and TikTok has people posting "KeyFlow PREMIUM V1.4.8" and GitHub download links. This widens awareness but also leaks revenue.

6. **Paid acquisition: no evidence found** . The metaads library shows 0 Keyflow-related ads (it only covers tracked products, so absence proves nothing); x-radar shows 60 in the last 0 days; no media coverage. The official TikTok @keyflow.official has just 362 followers and 0 posts, so promotion has come almost entirely from the founder's personal account and users.

### IV. Why it took off

- **Demand never went away, supply stopped** : Alight Motion is #6 in Indonesia's video category Top Grossing, with 40 million+ weekly installs, showing how many people make mograph/AMV/typography on phones. But AM updates slowly and has a heavy paywall, so users turned to mods. As one Reddit post puts it, "Alight motion doesnt get huge updates at all". Keyflow arrived when many long-time users were waiting for a new tool.

- **It really does go further on features** : AE-style value/speed curve editor, 3D camera + null, motion blur, roto brush, 3D tracking, stabilizer, puppet pins, time remapping. These are things the AM crowd has wanted for years and could only do in AE. The results suit "look, you can do this on a phone" showcase videos, which spread on their own.

- **The developer is inside the community** : he made AE plugins and sold AM presets, so he knows what editors want and knows a group of them. They post work credited "app by @Angkin", creating the same "work → curious about the app → download" loop Alight Motion once had.

- **Fast iteration, quick response to the community** : from 1.1 to 1.5.8 in just over a month. Teasers showed new features like L2D/puppet animation and rigging (BETA), and each update sparks another wave of discussion.

- **Market structure** : users cluster among young editors in Southeast Asia. Low-priced in-app purchases ($1.09 and up) plus no ads fit what this group can pay. So far it has only reached the Top Grossing chart in Indonesia.

### 5. Differentiation

Keyflow's edge is "a mobile mograph tool closer to desktop After Effects": curve graphs, 3D camera/null, roto, tracking, which Alight Motion lacks or does shallowly. It is also a new, properly listed, continuously updated standalone app, not an AM mod. That edge is the direct reason it broke out: nearly all the spread content uses the "AM killer" and "AE on your phone" comparison frame, and users come for the AE-style curves and 3D features. Still, some Reddit users say the UI looks a lot like AM, performance is laggy, and it is weaker than AM for pure animation. The edge is enough to draw people in to try it; whether it can pull AM's bulk audience over is still uncertain.

### 6. How far it has been seen

It is spreading within small circles: English- and Southeast Asian-language TikTok/YouTube editing communities and r/AlightMotion are discussing it. Revenue is not public (only AppGoblin's estimate of under $10k/month). No media coverage and no discussion on X. No iOS version (not findable in iTunes search). Copycats: no clear new app copying it has been seen; there are plenty of cracked versions (platinmods, happymod, plus a crack named "KEYFLAW").

### 7. What others can learn

- Find a creator-tool category where the leader has stagnated and users survive on mods, bring the signature features of desktop pro software to the phone, and sell it with a direct "X killer" comparison.

- The developer already has standing in the target community (plugins and presets), so before launch he gives beta builds to insider editors and their posts credit the app. That cold-starts at zero budget.

- Low-priced in-app purchases plus no ads suit young users in Southeast Asia. Android first, targeting Indonesia and the Philippines, where Alight Motion's user base is largest.

### 8. What's still uncertain

- Actual revenue and paying rate (only third-party estimates exist); how much revenue cracked versions leak.

- Growth has dropped from several thousand a day in October to one or two thousand a day, and the Indonesia chart ranking is also sliding. Whether it can retain users once the novelty fades, and what caused the sudden 11-06 extra 25 one-star reviews.

- Whether it has run TikTok or Google ads (not covered by our libraries).

- Whether an iOS version ships, and whether Alight Motion will follow with a curve editor.
