A pirate manga site went down, and a same-named app in the store got 1,500 more installs in one day: Lectormanga - Comics y Manhwa
What it is A Spanish-language pirate manga reader from an Indonesian developer account, named directly after LectorManga, a pirate site that has since shut down.
Why it took off The original site shut down 10-31, and Spanish-speaking readers of BL manhwa flooded the Play Store searching for "lectormanga." Several apps with that name rode the wave of search traffic together.
DHow to play it Don't copy the name. What's worth learning is watching the moment a big site or platform blows up, then using a compliant alternative to catch the "find an alternative" searches and TikTok traffic.
- Data (updated daily) · first launch 2026-08-05 · 11-07 installs 21,804
Android · Total installs worldwide Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.
LectorManga, one of the largest pirate manga sites in the Spanish-speaking world, shut down around Oct–Nov 2026 31 1. A Google Play app called "Lectormanga - Comics y Manhwa" has no connection to the website, just the same name, and its daily installs jumped from two or three hundred to fifteen hundred. Behind it is one Indonesian developer account, which has been spreading the same manga reader under seven or eight different names. This piece explains why it rose, whose traffic it is, and whether you should follow it. Short answer: understanding the play is enough; I don't recommend copying it.
"My Lector Manga has been like this since yesterday"
In Oct 31, TikTok user @rola_ryomen posted asking for help: "Someone please help me, I really don't understand why my Lector Manga has been like this since yesterday… I can't read anything, all my manhwa are stored in it." The next day, Nov 1, another account wrote: "Today, Nov 1 2026, is the day Lector Manga officially closed, today is a day of mourning." On Nov 2, @zombi3_natsuki posted "NOOOO!!! POR QUÉ💔😭", 81k views; the same day someone asked "where do I read my gays now 😭", with hashtags #lectormanga #cierre #fujoshi #manhwasbl.
These posts show who LectorManga's readers were: mostly young Spanish-speaking readers of Korean BL manhwa. Most of these titles have no official Spanish edition, only fan-translation scanlations. When the site went down, their bookmarks vanished, and the most natural move was to open the Play Store and search "lectormanga."
This site wasn't the first to fail. In March 2026, its sister site TuMangaOnline (TMO) had already shut down, with lots of "El FIN de Lector TMO" videos on YouTube and Facebook. In 2026 5 (June), LectorManga redesigned and briefly went offline, and TikTok had another round of drama (one #lectormanga post with 1.24M views).
What it is
A Spanish-language manga reader. The first line of the store listing reads "Lector Manga es el lector de manga online en español más actualizado" (Lector Manga is the most up-to-date online manga reader in Spanish), claiming thousands of Japanese, Korean and Chinese titles translated by community groups. Put simply, it's pirate translation-site content wrapped in an app shell.
- Developer "Developers Anime 30.", listed Aug 5 2026, version number always 1.0.0.
- Free, ad-supported, no in-app purchases, and as of 11-06 it had no ratings at all (Google Play listing).
- 21,804 total installs, 7 days +4,300 (Google Play install counts, 11-06).
Where the volume came from: one name, plus one site shutdown
For the first three months after launch it got roughly one or two hundred installs a day, occasionally spiking past a thousand in a day (third-party estimates). By Oct 29 the cumulative total was about 17.5k. Then:
| Date | New installs in the period | What happened |
|---|---|---|
| 10-31 | +517 | The website started failing to load |
| 11-03 | +802 | Two days after the peak of mourning posts on TikTok |
| 11-05 | +1,596 | |
| 11-06 | +1,385 |
(Google Play install counts, recorded at the store's update intervals; some days show no change, so these are incremental segments.)
On Spain's Google Play free comics chart, it sat at #21,11-04 on 10-29, climbed to #7,11-06, then slid back to #13; in Argentina it rose from #75 to #15. Note that the Spanish chart had only 22 apps that day, so it's shallow; a thousand-plus installs a day is enough to reach the top ten.
How do we know the volume was driven by the name? Two controls:
- Same-name apps are growing too. Another one, "Lectormanga - Manga y Manhwa" (developer AWWSTUDIO), launched a month earlier with 98k in total installs. In the same week it added 9,123,11-05 and 11-06 a day, roughly 2,600–2,700, nearly twice as fast, and ranks #5 in the Spain comics chart.
- Sibling apps from the same account didn't grow. "MangaFire," under the same developer account, sat at about 150 a day in 11-04 and 11-05. If the account were buying installs across the board, they should have moved together.
We can't see that it's spending money on acquisition: its curve is flat most of the time, and we found no sign of campaigns (not verified against ad libraries line by line).
Behind it is a network of sock-puppet apps
This developer account has 7 nearly identical manga readers attached: same Gmail, same Google Sites privacy page, same ad profile. MangaFire (18,332), Yupmanga (12,271), Snoanime (7,977), BacaKomik (6,046), ToonMark (3,745), Manga US (2,097), plus this Lectormanga, about 72k installs in total (Google Play, 11-06). APKPure also lists one called "BILIBILI COMICS: Manga Read", which is theirs too.
Every package borrows a name that already exists: MangaFire is a well-known English pirate site, BacaKomik is Indonesian, Lectormanga is Spanish. The logic is simple: one codebase, swap the name and the language, and capture the search for whichever site name people are looking up.
The money comes from ads. Over twenty thousand installs and no in-app purchases, so this one package earns little on its own (estimate). Added up, the whole network is only about 70k installs, a near-zero-cost small business.
Who it's competing with
| Product | Scale | How it compares |
|---|---|---|
| Lectormanga - Manga y Manhwa(AWWSTUDIO) | 98k, listed 2026-07 | Same name, earlier, and it caught more than four times the post-shutdown bump |
| Lectormanga - Anime y Manga(LigYAZa Lab) | Listed 8,442,2026-06 | Same name, down to a few dozen a day after September, traffic is gone |
| LectorManga(com.iqiyi.studio) | Not verified | Another package with the same name |
| TMOLector(HeyMundo Labs) | 1.36M, listed 2024-01 | Rode TMO's name early and is much bigger |
| Mango: Lector de Manga Español | 2.36M, listed 2023-10 | Spanish-language aggregator reader with its own brand |
| KanX - Mangas en Español | 990k, listed 2024-07 | Same as above |
| Mihon / Tachiyomi family | Heavy readers use it | Open source, you install extension sources yourself; this app works out of the box |
| WEBTOON, MANGA Plus | Tens of millions to hundreds of millions | Official, but without the scanlation groups' BL and long-tail titles |
Same keyword, at least four packages are fighting for it, and this one is neither the first nor the biggest.
If it were you
D: Understanding this playbook is enough, I don't recommend copying it. Its volume came from a borrowed pirate-site name plus a shutdown that has already happened. You can't get either: the name is already taken by at least four packages, and the largest one has four times its installs; the search spike from a site shutdown usually fades within a week or two. The content itself is pirated, the trademark belongs to someone else, Play can pull it at any time, and the whole developer account could be banned.
Who it suits: Nobody should copy it. The useful takeaway is a way of watching, for people building content or tool apps: track the moment a big site or platform goes down, because at that point a wave of "alternative to X" store searches suddenly appears.
Who it doesn't suit: Anyone wanting a long-term business, anyone who can't afford to lose their only developer account, anyone unwilling to touch copyright issues.
How to do it (if you only want the idea): Serve the "find an alternative" demand with something legitimate. For example, when a licensed platform shuts down, starts charging, or drops a region, have a legal competing product ready and, in those few days, align your store title, keywords and TikTok content to "XX alternative". Using someone else's trademark name doesn't count.
How to acquire users: The entry points for this demand are store search and grief posts on TikTok. Posting "where to watch now" content under the related topic on the day of the event beats any paid campaign.
When it's too late: For this wave, it's already too late. LectorManga went down around 10-31, and by the time you ship, the search peak is over.
Signs you've read it wrong: ① If daily installs stay above a thousand after late November, the readers stuck around and the demand isn't just a one-off event; ② if the same-name packages aren't pulled by Play within a month, takedown risk is lower than assumed; ③ if the original site comes back on a new domain (as in the May scare), this wave's volume drops right away, which actually confirms the window is short.

Why Lectormanga - Comics y Manhwa (com.anime30.lectormanga) showed up
Bottom line
This is a re-skinned pirate manga reader published by an Indonesian account, "Developers Anime 30." It surfaced not because of the product but because of two things: first, it uses the name LectorManga, one of the largest pirate manga sites in the Spanish-speaking world, to capture brand searches on Play; second, LectorManga itself shut down around 2026-10-31 to 11-01, its users went looking for alternatives, and this app's daily installs jumped from about 200 to about 1,500 (11-04, 11-05). Calling it "differentiated" is generous; it grabbed the name and happened to be there when the original site went down.
Basic data (googleplay library, 2026-11-06)
- Listed 2026-08-05, version has stayed at 1.0.0 (store page says 2026-10-15 has an update), with ads (ad_supported=True), no in-app purchases, and not a single rating (ratings empty).
- Total installs 21,804, +4,300 in the last 7 days.
- Curve since launch (app_day_ext, AppstoreSpy estimate): 08-15 511 → 09-09 6,961 → 10-04 13,062 → 10-29 17,504; normally 100–300 a day, occasionally spiking to 1,000–1,800 (09-09, 10-04, 10-08).
- Our own daily data: 10-31 +517, 11-03 +802, 11-05 +1,596, 11-06 +1,385 (gap totals, app_day).
- Charts: Spain COMICS free chart 10-29 #21 → 11-02 #11 → 11-04 #7 → 11-06 #13; Argentina rose from #75 to #15 (11-04); US store #55–77. Note that the Spain chart only had 22 apps that day, so it's very shallow; the ng/th/tr/sa etc. listings sit at #30–34, which looks like the same shallow aggregate chart rather than real users in those countries.

Growth channels
- Riding a brand name, store search screenshot (confirmed): the app is literally named "Lectormanga", and the first line of its description is "Lector Manga es el lector de manga online en español más actualizado". At least 4 same-name packages (AWWSTUDIO, LigYAZa, iqiyi.studio, and this one). Anyone who searches "lectormanga" on Play is its traffic.
- Platform event: original site shut down (confirmed): under TikTok #lectormanga, a wave of mourning posts appeared from 11-01 to 11-03. For example, @kazutorasecundaria160990 11-02's post got 339k views, saying "ayer y hoy fue cuando se cayó todo"; 11-01's post said "hoy 1 de noviembre de 2026 es el día que ha cerrado oficialmente lector manga"; @zombi3_natsuki posted "NOOOO!!! POR QUÉ" with 11-02 views in 81k; 10-31 also asked "why has my Lector Manga looked like this since yesterday". TikTok also has a discover page called "Que Paso Con Lector Manga El 31 De Octubre". The timing matches this app's jump from 11-03 to 11-06. The same-name AWWSTUDIO package jumped at the same time, while other sock accounts from the same operator (e.g., MangaFire 11-04, 11-05 at roughly 150 a day) did not. So the traffic followed the "LectorManga" name, not a broad ad campaign by the account.
- Earlier background: TuMangaOnline 2026-03 shut down (lots of "El FIN de Lector TMO" content on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram), and Spanish readers started migrating then. LectorManga's .lat domain 2025-07 also went down once (keiyoushi/extensions-source issue #9509). Every time a big site goes down, name-riding apps get a bump in search volume.
- Sock-puppet matrix (confirmed): the same developer account (id 8529111288570546315), the same Gmail (novansucirahayu8619@), the same Google Sites privacy page, and the same app-ads.txt hosting domain are behind 7 packages: MangaFire 18,332, Yupmanga 12,271, Snoanime 7,977, BacaKomik 6,046, ToonMark 3,745, Manga US 2,097, plus this one. Together they have 72k installs in the library. AppBrain says 8, and APKPure still shows a "BILIBILI COMICS: Manga Read" that is also name-riding. Each package rides the name of an existing site or platform (MangaFire is a well-known English pirate site, BacaKomik is Indonesian).
- Paid acquisition: no evidence found. The curve is flat most of the time, and the few single-day spikes look more like algorithmic recommendation or search volume. Ad libraries were not checked.
Where the money comes from
No in-app purchases, labeled "Contiene anuncios", and the developer site lists an app-ads.txt hosting address, so monetization is ad-based, likely AdMob or similar. With just over 20k users, revenue can't be high. This model relies on spreading many sock puppets and taking brand search traffic in batches at near-zero cost.
Visibility
Nobody has written about it. Searching "lectormanga" on X (x-radar, last 30 days) returns 0 posts; no media coverage; no ratings or reviews. The only thing being discussed is the LectorManga shutdown itself. Name-riders have been around for a while: the AWWSTUDIO package is bigger and older, and there's also LigYAZa and iqiyi.studio.
Differentiation
No real product differentiation: the version has been sitting at a 1.0.0,0 rating, and it's the same shell as the account's other 6 apps. The only real edge is that it grabbed the search term "Lectormanga." That's really why it took off, but it wasn't unique to them. AWWSTUDIO got the same tailwind, and it pulled more than 4 times as much.
What to borrow
- Watch for pirate and aggregator site shutdowns (TMO 2026-03, LectorManga 2026-10-31). These events instantly create a wave of store searches for "alternatives", and whoever holds the name first takes the traffic.
- One account running sock-puppet packages across several languages and site names, using the same codebase to swap names and languages (Spanish, Indonesian, English).
- To restate the risk: this approach touches trademark and copyright, Play can pull it at any time, and the whole account may be banned. The recall card mentions "a similar package was pulled 17 days later", but our gone table has no matching record, so it's unverified.
Unknowns
- The specific reason the original site shut down (a copyright complaint or a voluntary closure) rests only on TikTok users' claims. No media reporting was found.
- How much of this wave will stick: 0 rating, and no review sample, so retention is unknown.
- Whether money was spent on paid acquisition: the ad library was not checked, and no evidence of campaigns was found.
- Whether 11-06 interest will fade: shutdown-driven search volume usually fades within a week or two.
