The ad says "no ads needed": AnyShort hit 3.41M installs in three and a half months, powered by a short-drama shell-app matrix
What it is A free vertical short-drama app for users in the Philippines, Indonesia and Latin America. It's ad-supported: you watch an ad to unlock the next episode, and it also sells in-app purchases at $7.99–29.99.
Why it took off It belongs to a matrix of at least 18 apps with roughly 100M installs combined. One Meta ad page has run over 20,000 video ads, rotating them across these apps to drive installs under the pitch "free, no ads." They target countries where paid acquisition is cheap and users will watch ads but won't pay.
CHow you could follow it Don't copy the shell-app matrix. If you do it, flip the thing it gets criticized for most: really few ads, truly free early episodes, and content in a smaller language that feels like local drama. Test with a small Meta budget in the Philippines or Indonesia, and work out your install cost and 7-day ad revenue first.

AnyShort is a free vertical short-drama app on Google Play. It launched in Jul 18, reached 3.41M installs by Nov 6, and charted in the entertainment free charts across 16 stores including the Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Argentina and Mexico. Its product is no different from competitors. It took off because a matrix of more than a dozen apps rotates paid acquisition behind it, and the money mostly comes from ads inserted between episodes. The playbook is learnable, but this niche is already crowded.
A slogan and a few reviews
In Oct 16, a Facebook page called "Anyshort" posted a vertical video titled "🔥Full Episodes Unlocked" with the caption "🎬Download Now To Unlock The Full Series!!!" Nearly every similar video from this page uses the same copy:
All the short dramas inside are free to watch. No need to subscribe to membership. No need to watch ads.
Interestingly, another set of videos on the same page links to "watch-short-videos-to-unlock-new-story-chapters," meaning "watch short videos to unlock new chapters." That's watching ads.
More than a month earlier, on Sep 10, a Philippine user, Renalyn Danao, wrote a review on AnyShort's store page, and 25 people marked it helpful:
The ads make you furious... longer than the show itself, especially when the plot is getting good. The ads go from 5 seconds to 1 minutes. Their ads also say you don't need to watch ads to unlock.
On Sep 3, another Philippine user was more polite: "I like it because it's free, but there are too many ads. You get a few lines of dialogue and then a long ad. Could you let us watch two or three episodes before the ad?" On Sep 16, US user Rebecca Kimmel said that while binging a 110-episode show she reached episode 105, watched the ad, still couldn't unlock, and kept getting bounced back to episode 105.
These three reviews tell the whole story of AnyShort: it pulls people in with "free, no ads," then makes money from ads once they're in.
How fast it grew
AnyShort's developer account is "The New Step." The same account also publishes a children's craft app, "Kid Craft," which has nothing to do with short dramas. It looks like an account registered earlier or bought from someone else.
Its install curve moves in steps (Google Play installs):
| Date | Total installs | Added that day |
|---|---|---|
| 10-29 | 2.84M | — |
| 10-31 | 3.08M | +240k |
| 11-01 to 11-02 | 3.08M | 0 |
| 11-03 | 3.3M | +216k |
| 11-05 | 3.36M | +59k |
| 11-06 | 3.41M | +58k |
Over 8 days it grew about 570k, averaging 70k a day. Rating 4.74 stars from 60,391 ratings, with 400 to 1,100 new ratings a day. From 10-29 to 11-06, its best overall entertainment free-chart rank was #13 in Indonesia, #15 in the Philippines and #16 in Mexico. On Nov 6 it was #21 in the Philippines, #25 in Indonesia, #28 in Hong Kong, #32 in Argentina and #35 in Mexico. On the paid charts it reached only #66 in the Philippines entertainment Top Grossing, #95 in Thailand and #105 in Indonesia, so it earns a little, not much.
Who is buying its ads
The footer on AnyShort's site anyshorts.net reads "All rights reserved.2026 REVERIE STUDIO LLC". Search that company name and you get a run of sites built from the same template: ReelMax, Dramly, DramaOL, Vela Reels, WinkiTV, Revo Shorts.
The Meta Ad Library has a page called "PassionPro-Short" with only about 4,700 likes. As of Nov 6 it had 442 ads running (258 in Nov 3), with 20,301 total ads over its history. All are videos with "WATCH MORE" buttons, placed on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, Threads and third-party apps. These ads lead to 10 Play apps, AnyShort among them. The AnyShort ad that started running in Sep 22 had 9 versions, with copy like:
Exciting non-stop plots 🔥 Click to unlock full episodes instantly 😍
The recently rotated versions are in Spanish and Portuguese ("Trama emocionante sin parar…"), with the focus shifting toward Latin America. AnyShort's own Facebook page has only about 2,000 followers but shows about 180k "talking about this," which is engagement driven by ads, not organic discussion.
Tracing the website templates, ad pages and developer info, this matrix has at least 18 apps on Play with roughly 103M installs combined (Google Play install counts, 11-06):
| Package | Developer name | Launched | Total installs | 7 new in the last day |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BonusTV | DramaAccess INC | 2025-03 | 20.4M | 26k |

| Passion Drama / Pro | medyem | 2025-12 / 2026-06 | 4.81M / 7.38M | 65k / 48k |

Each developer's contact email is a random Gmail (addresses like mlagfknzop@ or kxqbtg@). AnyShort and ShortFly launched on the same day (Jul 18). Halo Reels Pro/Max launched together, as did ShortFly Pro/Max. When one app cools off, they launch a Pro, Max or Lite version and keep buying: the base BonusTV app grew only 26k in a week, and the Pro and Lite versions picked up the slack. AnyShort is mid-table in the group, not the main driver.
One content library and backend spread across many apps with different names has three benefits: one app being removed doesn't wipe everything out; it can take several spots on the same chart; and the apps can be compared on creative and payback efficiency.
Where the money comes from
The store page lists in-app purchases at $7.99–$29.99, but people in these countries rarely pay for short dramas, and its #66 spot on the Philippines entertainment Top Grossing chart shows in-app revenue is low. The main money comes from rewarded video ads: watch an ad to unlock an episode, with ads getting longer at the most dramatic moments.
The math is likely this: in the Philippines, Indonesia, Mexico and Brazil, an install is cheap, and a user who binges dozens or hundreds of episodes sees one or two ads per episode, so ad revenue can exceed acquisition cost (inference, since spend and ad revenue are not visible from outside). The matrix keeps launching new apps and increasing spend, which suggests the math is probably positive.
Two things don't add up. The store page's data safety section says "no data collected, not shared with third parties," yet an ad-funded app can hardly avoid sharing data with ad platforms. Of 4.7.46M ratings, only 440 one-star and two-star ratings exist, which doesn't match a comment section full of complaints about ads. Whether incentivized reviews are involved can't be confirmed.
Who it's competing with
AnyShort's most direct rivals are the free short dramas from big companies:
| Product | Behind it | Play cumulative installs | Compared with AnyShort |
|---|---|---|---|
| FreeReels | Kunlun Tech | 246M, 3.64M new in 7 days | Also free and ad-supported, but a much larger library and brand |
| Melolo | ByteDance family | 147M | Also free, backed by a major platform |
| PineDrama | TikTok | 84M | Funnels users from TikTok, so it doesn't rely entirely on paid acquisition |
| FreeDrama | Kuku (India) | 42.6M | Backed by a short-drama company |
| ReelShort / DramaBox | Fenye Interactive / Dianzhong | In the hundreds of millions | Original shows plus premium per-episode paywalls, a different business |
| MixReels, FreeDrama (Game Laws), Gold Drama | Random developer names | 1,000 million+ | The same playbook as AnyShort |
Users don't care about brands. They install three or five short-drama apps and keep whichever has fewer ads or lets them finish an episode. AnyShort's store copy only says "instant start, no searching, remembers progress," which every short-drama app offers.
AnyShort has no official account on TikTok, only a few dubious short-clip accounts pushing "download the app." On X, nobody has mentioned it in nearly 90 days, and no media has covered it. Few people know it, but its niche is anything but quiet.
If it were you
Verdict: There's nothing about this particular app worth copying; what's worth learning is the matrix playbook behind it. But following it isn't worth it: free short dramas in emerging markets is a red ocean, with big companies at the top and shell-app matrices crowding the middle, competing only on who gets cheaper installs and fuller ad fill.
Who it suits: Teams that have already bought app installs on Meta, have monetization accounts such as AdMob or Meta Audience Network, and can fund a few tens of thousands of dollars of creative testing at once; or content owners who hold short-drama rights and can batch-produce AI short dramas themselves.
Who it doesn't suit: Indie developers who have never run ads, since there's no organic traffic here; anyone hoping to win on product experience or content, because users don't care about brands; and anyone who can't handle the risk of mass removals from Google Play.
How to do it: Don't copy the matrix head-on. The reviews already expose its weak spots: ads that get longer, a "no ads" promise that's false, and watching ads still not unlocking the episode. You could build an app that openly states ad density, makes the first few episodes truly free, and offers content in a smaller language (Tagalog, Indonesian or Thai dubbing) that feels like local drama, using "really few ads" as the selling point. Retention may beat these shell apps (inference).
How to acquire users: Meta video ads, using the most dramatic twist from the show as creative, targeting the Philippines or Indonesia like they do. Test with a small budget first, work out what each install costs and whether ad revenue over 7 days covers it, then scale.
When to get in before others: FreeReels adds 3.64M a week, and big companies are capturing this wave of free short dramas at full volume. If you can't find profitable countries and creatives by the first half of 2027, don't keep adding spend.
What would mean you've misread it: If PassionPro-Short's active ad count halves within a month or two and the matrix stops launching new apps, even experienced players can't make the math work, so don't take this path. Conversely, if its ad count keeps rising and new Pro/Max apps keep arriving in batches, small players still have room in emerging markets, and the numbers are worth redoing.

AnyShort (com.anyshort.tvb) research report
Research date 2026-11-06. Data comes from our googleplay and metaads libraries (on the agent-im server); web searches used Jina; sources are listed item by item below.
Bottom line
AnyShort is not an independent short-drama company. It is one package in an overseas short-drama shell matrix. The matrix's traits: each package sits under a different developer shell with a random Gmail address; the official sites share one template and the footer reads "REVERIE STUDIO LLC"; all packages rotate ad buys through the same Facebook page "PassionPro-Short". The model is free short dramas unlocked by watching ads (plus $7.99–29.99 in-app purchases), targeting cheap-install emerging markets such as the Philippines, Indonesia and Latin America. AnyShort's rise comes from the matrix's ad buying and package-swapping ability, not from anything distinctive in the product.
1. Data (googleplay library)
- Listed: 2026-07-18. The developer "The New Step" also has an unrelated app called "Kid Craft" (Google Play developer page), suggesting a transferred or long-registered developer account.
- Installs: 2026-10-29 → 2,840,809,11-06 → over 3,413,321,8 days rose about 570k, roughly 70k a day (app_day). Cumulative 111M over 3.41 days since listing.
- Ratings: 4.74,60,391 ratings, about 400–1,100 new per day. Histogram: five-star 48,557; one- and two-star are both 440.
- Charts (chart_rank, 10-29 to 11-06):
- Top Free: best #35 on the Philippines overall chart, #15 in Philippines Entertainment, #13 in Indonesia Entertainment; Mexico Entertainment fell from #16 to #35; Brazil Entertainment #42–59; charted in 16 stores that day.
- Top Grossing (Entertainment): Philippines #65–73, Thailand #93–110, Indonesia #105–119, Brazil around #128, Mexico around #140. These ranks mean some revenue, but not much.
- Monetization:
ad_supported=True, in-app purchases $7.99–$29.99 (app_snap). Nearly all one-star reviews complain about ads, e.g. "ads are infuriating... longer than episodes itself", "their ads claim no need to watch ads to unlock episodes", plus bugs where episodes stay locked after watching ads (Play reviews, 2026-09). - The data safety declaration says "no data collected, no data shared". That clearly doesn't match an ad-monetized model.
2. Key finding: the REVERIE STUDIO LLC shell matrix
- The AnyShort official site anyshorts.net has "All rights reserved.2026 REVERIE STUDIO LLC" in its footer (read via r.jina.ai; page published 2026-07-14).
- Searching that company name turns up a series of sites on the same template: ReelMax (shortreelmax.com), Dramly (dramly.net), DramaOL (dramlyol.com), Vela Reels (velareels.com), WinkiTV (winkitv.com, footer reads 2024), Revo Shorts (revoshorts.com) (Jina search for "REVERIE STUDIO LLC").
- metaads library: the Facebook page PassionPro-Short (page_id 1156915574179436) has only about 4,700 likes but 442 ads running (11-03 of them 258), 20,301 in total history. The earliest ad we see started running on 2026-08-01; 100% are video, CTA is WATCH_MORE, placements cover FB, IG, Messenger, Threads and Audience Network. These ads land on 10 Play packages, including com.anyshort.tvb. AnyShort's ad started running 2026-09-22 with 9 versions, copy "Exciting non-stop plots 🔥 Click to unlock full episodes instantly 😍". The latest creatives are in Spanish and Portuguese ("Trama emocionante sin parar…"), showing the focus is Latin America.
- AnyShort also runs its own Facebook page "Anyshort" (id 61593771329476) with only about 2,000 followers, but about 180k "talking about this", driven by ad engagement. Its video ad copy reads "No need to subscribe to membership. No need to watch ads." (Jina search results), which directly contradicts users saying "the ads are longer than the show".
- Chaining developer domains, the same advertiser and the same site template through the googleplay library turns up 18 packages, about 103M installs combined:
| Package | Developer shell | Launched | Installs | 7 new in the last day |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BonusTV(com.wtv.winkitv) | DramaAccess INC | 2025-03-20 | 20.4M | 26k |
| Halo Reels / Pro / Max | Nutri Plaza | 2026-07-24 / 08-18 / 08-18 | 12.3M / 8.2M / 5.68M | 1.44M / 820K / 760K |
| BonusTV Pro / Lite | DramaAccess INC | 2026-06 | 9.17M / 5.07M | 210k / 220k |
| Passion Drama / Pro | medyem | 2025-12 / 2026-06 | 4.81M / 7.38M | 65k / 48k |
| ReelMax | Tranquil Oasis Alliance | 2026-04-22 | 5.48M | 440k |
| ShortFly / Pro / Max | Conservative Authority | 2026-07-18 / 08-24 / 08-24 | 4.48M / 3.53M / 1.71M | 320k / 340k / 360k |
| DramaOL | fredom lemedy | 2026-06-30 | 4.12M | 490k |
| Drama World / Pro / Max | Skylark Scan | 2026-07-30 / 09-16 / 09-16 | 3.93M / 730K / 230K | 550k / 690k / 220k |
| AnyShort | The New Step | 2026-07-18 | 3.41M | 570k |
| Vela Reels | Racing Runner club | 2026-04-22 | 2.29M | 110k |
Each developer shell uses an obviously made-up Gmail (mlagfknzop@, kxqbtg@, violaprisyfs0wi@, geraldsizemore3379@, etc.). Many packages come in a "base / Pro / Max / Lite" set, and once one version cools off, a new one launches (BonusTV base rose only 26k in 7 days, with Pro and Lite picking up; Drama World Pro launched in September and gained 690k in 7 days). Within the matrix AnyShort is mid-tier, not a main package.
- Note: AnyShort and ShortFly were listed the same day (07-18); Halo Pro/Max and ShortFly Pro/Max were listed as pairs on the same days (08-18, 08-24). This is a batch-production cadence.
3. Where users came from (growth tactics)
- Meta paid acquisition (confirmed): one page advertises for 10 packages, with over 20k ads in cumulative history, creatives of plot-hook videos plus "click to unlock full episodes", the same playbook as ReelShort and DramaBox. Anyshort's own FB page also runs ads.
- Shell matrix / package swapping (confirmed): multiple developer shells and multiple Pro/Max/Lite versions spread out takedown risk, take more store chart slots and search terms, and let them A/B test creatives and ROI across packages.
- Market selection (confirmed): installs concentrate in the Philippines, Indonesia, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Thailand, South Africa, Malaysia, Hong Kong and the UAE, emerging markets with cheap installs that accept ad monetization.
- Organic installs / chart position (inferred): after reaching Entertainment Top Free #13–35, it picks up some organic installs. Rating 4.74, yet among 60k ratings only 440 are one-star, which doesn't match the share of reviews complaining about ads; review incentives are possible (unverified).
- TikTok / X / media: none found. x-radar shows no "anyshort" mentions in the past 90 days; searching TikTok for anyshort turns up no official account, only some short-drama clip accounts of unknown ownership pointing to "download app". No media coverage.
4. Where the money comes from
- Mainly rewarded video ads (watch an ad to unlock an episode; users report ads growing from 5 seconds to 1 minutes and placed at the most tense moments of the plot). Supplemented by in-app purchases of $7.99–29.99; Top Grossing reached #70 in Philippines Entertainment.
- In emerging markets, an install may cost only a few cents, and ad eCPM can pay that back (inferred, unverified). That is why the matrix can keep adding packages and keep buying ads.
5. Competitors
- Top-tier licensed paid short dramas: ReelShort (Crazy Maple) and DramaBox (StoryMatrix), since 2023, with downloads in the hundreds of millions; NetShort (162M, 2024-07), ShortMax (131M, 2023-09), GoodShort (98.6M, 2023-06). These make originals or buy rights, earn from subscriptions and coins, and charge high per episode.
- Big-company free + ads short dramas: FreeReels (Kunlun Tech's SKYWORK, 246M, 2024-11,7M new in 3.64 days), Melolo (147M, 2024-11), PineDrama (TikTok's own, 84M, 2025-12), FreeDrama (Kuku, 42.6M, 2026-04). These are AnyShort's most direct rivals: free to watch, ad-funded, but with bigger libraries, stronger brands and big-company traffic.
- Similar grey small apps: MixReels (Nathanwaltersdev, 2026-714M), FreeDrama (Game Laws, 2026-815M), Gold Drama (Hesapplication) and others, all with random developer names, free short dramas and ad monetization. A separate site, anyshort.net, claims to aggregate 280k titles from various producers with multilingual subtitles (the English page shows Thai synopses), looking like an aggregator. Whether it is the same operator as anyshorts.net is unverified.
- Competitor search results: the AnyShort alternatives Unstar lists are Netflix, GoodShort, Tubi and others.
6. Differentiation
The product has essentially no differentiation. The store copy only stresses "instant start, less waiting, remembers progress", which every short-drama app says. The real difference is in how it operates:
- Versus ReelShort / DramaBox: no originals, no expensive per-episode paywall; it leads with "free + ads".
- Versus FreeReels / PineDrama: no big-company traffic or library; it relies on multiple shells, multiple versions and high-frequency ad buying from one FB page, spreading the same content across many packages and using the matrix's total spend to win reach.
This "difference" is genuinely why it can run, but the capability lives in the matrix, not in the AnyShort package itself.
7. Visibility
Almost nobody knows about it: no media coverage, 0 posts on X, no public revenue, no TrustMRR listing. The only signals are the ad library and third-party chart sites (appfigures shows AnyShort at #23 in Colombia's Entertainment chart and ShortFly Max at #22). The "free short drama + ad monetization + emerging markets" lane is already crowded (FreeReels, Melolo, PineDrama are all in it).
8. Still unclear
- Whether the content is licensed: not verified (an aggregator-style library like anyshort.net's is suspect, but whether it is the same operator as the app is also unverified).
- The actual controllers and jurisdiction of REVERIE STUDIO LLC (a US LLC shell, most likely a China-based overseas team behind it, unverified).
- Ad spend, eCPM, ROI; whether reviews are being farmed or incentivized.
- Is there an iOS version? The iTunes search API returned nothing this time, so I couldn't check.
