2,369 installs, ranked #44 in India's top grossing: another AI photo-motion clone, and its paywall
What it is: an Android app where you pick a style template, upload your photos, and generate AI images or animate a still. No sign-up required, but generation costs money: a weekly subscription plus credit packs.
Why it took off: it didn't really take off. India's photography top-grossing chart at ranks 40 to 50 can be reached with a few thousand installs. It charges from day one, with a weekly subscription at ₹999. A few paying users are enough to climb the ranks; users are most likely bought cheaply in India on a small budget (inferred).
DWhat you can take from it: don't build yet another AI photo-motion shell. If you already run a paid AI app, you can copy its tiered weekly subscriptions with win-back, reward, and invite prices, and credit packs tied to the subscription. Test paid conversion with a few thousand installs in cheap markets like India first.

In Nov 6, an AI photo app called Apertelle hit #44 in Google Play's India photography top grossing chart. It had been on Android for just over two weeks, with 2,369 total installs worldwide, no ratings, and no reviews. It isn't a product that broke out; it's the smallest of dozens of same-template AI motion apps that flooded the Play photography category in mid-October. Two things are worth looking at: how low the bar for India's top grossing chart is, and how the paywall is built.
What it is
You pick a style template, upload one of your own photos (some templates need two or three), sometimes edit the prompt, then generate an AI image or animate the photo into a short video. The store page subheads, "DIRECT THE LOOK" and "MOVE FROM STILL TO MOTION," are almost identical to what a dozen similar apps used at the same time.
No sign-up: the app creates an anonymous account bound to the phone on install, and the store page says "not guaranteed to be recoverable after uninstall." The payment terms are blunt: "AI generation uses credits and may require an active subscription" and "no unlimited or free generation is promised." On Play, in-app purchases run from $4.99 to $199.99. The iOS version is even more direct: you must subscribe before buying a credit pack. In India the weekly subscription is ₹999 (about $12), with other tiers at ₹1,499 and ₹4,999 (App Store India page).

| 11-05 | 1,922 | +650 | #45 |
| 11-06 | 2,369 | +447 | #44 |
(Google Play install counts and chart positions, 11-04 to 11-06)
It has only charted in this one country on this one chart and has never appeared on a free chart. In Nov 2 it updated to 1.0.1; the release notes say one thing: changes to the subscription plan cards, benefit descriptions, and promotions, plus "adjusted launch flow by membership status." Less than two weeks after launch, the first thing it changed was the paywall.
How a few thousand installs can reach the top grossing chart
Because the bar at ranks 40 to 50 on India's photography top grossing chart is that low. On the same day, Movora (a similar AI photo-video app launched 10-16) ranked #48 with only 6,633 installs. India's weekly subscription is already ₹999, so a handful of paying users pushes it up the rankings. Revenue isn't public; a third-party estimate puts individual apps like this at under $1,000 per month (unverified).
So the ranking doesn't show how big the demand is. It only shows that it charged from day one and that this chart is easy to climb.
Where users come from: no ads found, but the hooks are in place
Searching Apertelle on TikTok, X, and media turns up nothing; the only results are auto-generated store stats pages like AppBrain and Softonic. No matching ads in the Meta or Google ad libraries either (not finding them doesn't mean none were run). Its name is a coined word nobody would search for, and the description doesn't stuff keywords.
Its privacy policy does describe "server-side ad attribution": after the app creates an anonymous account, it sends a signed network identifier to its own attribution server, "to match an ad click to this account." The Meta SDK is off in the Android version, but the policy specifically notes "this doesn't mean there's no server-side ad tracking." For a two-week-old app that gains a few hundred installs a day in just one country, plus this attribution setup, the most likely explanation is a small paid-acquisition budget in a cheap-install market like India to test paid conversion (inferred; no ad account found).
Who's behind it
The Android developer is BaoTeng; the privacy policy names BAO TENG TECHNOLOGY LIMITED in Hong Kong, registered in September 2025. The site baoteng.shop is a templated Chinese-language "Hong Kong tech company" page claiming "500+ successful projects" and "24/7 technical support."
The iOS version came out four weeks earlier, in Sep 23, under an individual developer account in the name of Vu Khac Nhiem (Vietnamese). It ships in 15 languages, has charted in photography categories across 12 storefronts including Egypt and India, peaked at #36 top grossing in Egypt, but has 0 ratings. Both versions' privacy policies sit on the same domain, aivukhacnhiem.site. This Vietnamese account also has another iOS app, Nuvellure (launched Oct 3), also AI images and video.
Inference: a Chinese-speaking team, shipping Android under a Hong Kong company and iOS under a Vietnamese individual account, one backend behind multiple shells, adding budget to whichever one pays back.
Who it's competing with
This is the most crowded lane in Play photography. In India's photography top grossing chart at 11-06, at least 70 of the top 25 are template AI portraits + image-to-video + subscription credits (Google Play chart, 11-06).
- Model makers and big players: Hailuo (MiniMax) 27.8M installs, PixVerse 79.6M, Remini 620M; Picsart, FaceApp, and B612 have also added AI video and portraits.
- Similar apps that rose this year: Mivora 8.4M installs, #1 India photography top grossing; BabyGenie 4.67M.
- Clone apps launched the same week:
| App | Developer | Launched | Cumulative installs (11-06) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mistmere | Funkedenic | 10-16 | 234,971 |
| LumaSprig | PIZZA DI LUNA, LLC | 10-16 | 77,100 |
| FrameBloom | muhammed waris | 10-15 | 64,672 |
| AsterLoop | muhammed waris | 10-15 | 35,047 |
| MoriFrame | muhammed waris | 10-14 | 24,392 |
| Movora | streamflow | 10-16 | 6,633 |
| Apertelle | BaoTeng | 10-20 | 2,369 |
(Google Play installs, 11-06) LumaSprig, FrameBloom, AsterLoop, and MoriFrame share the same privacy page template, and their descriptions all open with "Bring your photos to life with X. PHOTO TO MOTION." The closest to Apertelle is Movora: same India-only top grossing charting, privacy page on a "personal name.site" domain, same anonymous account plus credit subscription model, but no evidence they're the same operator.
Apertelle has no functional difference from these, and it's the smallest of the batch: LumaSprig charted in 27 countries within about a week, while Apertelle charted in only 1.
What to take away: a paywall ladder
The iOS in-app purchase list puts its paywall tests on display: Select Weekly, Signature Weekly, Surprise Weekly, Special Weekly, and Welcome Back Weekly (win-back price), plus Creation Reward Offer (a reward price after generation), Private Invitation (an invite price), and Archive. Weekly subscription prices run from $8.99 to $17.99, with the top tier at $99.99. Add "you must subscribe before buying credit packs," and a user gets charged once by the subscription and again by the credit pack. The privacy policy also mentions check-in and invite rewards in credits.
Two more details: the anonymous no-sign-up account means every extra step loses users, and it launched on iOS first as a test and on Android four weeks later, under different entities, so one account going down doesn't drag the other down.
If it were you
One-line verdict: don't copy Apertelle. It's the weakest of a batch of clones, with no product worth copying. The only thing to learn is the paywall ladder, along with the method of testing paid conversion cheaply through top grossing charts in obscure countries.
Who it's for: small teams that already have a working AI generation backend and want to test with minimal spend whether a template category will get paying users.
Who it's not for: indie devs who want to build yet another AI photo-motion app. Model makers, million-install competitors, and clone apps launched the same week that spread dozens of times more aggressively are all in this lane, and you can't win on features against any of them. It's also not for anyone unwilling to run a multi-entity, multi-app setup.
How to do it: if you already build a paid AI app, copy three things. One, run several weekly subscription tiers at once, plus win-back, post-generation reward, and invite prices, and see which converts best. Two, tie credit packs to the subscription to raise the value per paying user. Three, test in cheap-install markets like India and Egypt with a few thousand installs to read paid conversion. But don't treat a top grossing ranking as a demand signal; this chart takes only a few thousand installs to climb.
How to acquire users: small-budget paid acquisition, judged by cost per paying user rather than cost per install; attribution server-side, with fewer SDKs installed.
When to get in: there's no window to rush. This batch launched together in mid-October, so entering now means you're already in the second or third wave.
What you might have got wrong: ① Apertelle charted in a dozen-plus countries within a month and passed 100k installs, which suggests this team's paid acquisition is stronger than it looks, so its creatives and channels are worth breaking down again; ② if it or sibling clones start getting lots of ratings, and they're positive, that suggests retention in this category is better than assumed, not just first-purchase revenue; ③ Google Play pulling this batch of same-template apps at once suggests the multi-clone route is blocked.

Why Apertelle (com.apertelle.android) managed to chart
Channel: Google Play | Developer: BaoTeng (BAO TENG TECHNOLOGY LIMITED, 寶騰科技有限公司, Hong Kong) | On Play since 2026-10-20 | Research day 2026-11-06
One line
Apertelle is a general-purpose AI portrait / motion app with the flow "pick a template → upload photos → output AI images / image-to-video", with a hard paywall, weekly subscription plus credit packs, and in-app purchases of $4.99–199.99. Calling it "breakout" is a stretch: it has 2,369 cumulative installs on Play worldwide and charted in only one chart, India Photo & Video Top Grossing at #44. That rank is reachable because India's Photo & Video Top Grossing bar is low: on the same day, the #48 same-category Movora had only 6,633 installs. Add that it charges from the start. The product itself has no differentiation. It is one of dozens of same-template AI photo-motion apps that appeared in mid-October 2026, behind a Hong Kong shell company and a Vietnamese individual developer account, running a "one backend, many clone packages, see which one pays back" matrix.

No ratings, no reviews, install tier 1,000+. Version 1.0.0 (10-21), updated 11-02 to 1.0.1, release note: "Updated subscription plan cards, benefit descriptions, and offer details……Improved membership-aware startup behavior", i.e. tuning the paywall and membership logic at launch (googleplay library app.recent_changes).
Same app on iOS: Apertelle (id 6812815224), listed 2026-09-23, about 4 weeks earlier than Android. The developer is listed under the Vietnamese individual name "Vu Khac Nhiem", with 15 languages. In the appstore library it appeared on the Photo & Video category charts in 12 stores; its best rank was Egypt Top Grossing #36, with India Top Grossing #48, Madagascar #57, Paraguay #76, Oman #117 also, but its rating count is 0–1, i.e. almost no downloads. India in-app purchases: Select Weekly ₹999, Pocket ₹1,499, Folio ₹4,999 (App Store page, read via r.jina.ai). The description states "Generation requires credits. Additional credit-pack purchases require an active subscription", so you must subscribe before buying credit packs.
Same operator on both platforms: the Android privacy policy sits at aivukhacnhiem.site/Apertelle-android-privacy.html, stating the operator is BAO TENG TECHNOLOGY LIMITED; the iOS privacy policy is on the same domain. The same individual account also has Nuvellure on iOS (id 6813959881,2026-10-03, Graphics & Design) (iTunes lookup). The developer website baoteng.shop is a templated Chinese "Hong Kong tech company" site with boilerplate like "500+ successful projects" and "24/7 technical support". Hong Kong Companies Registry data shows the company was 2025-09-01 incorporated (BRN 78713114, totalcredit.hk). So the judgment: a Chinese-speaking team publishing Android through a Hong Kong company and iOS through a Vietnamese individual account.
The data card's recall reason says "Carzie is also by this developer", which is wrong. In the appstore library, Carzie's developer is AVLABS DIJITAL HIZMETLER A.S. (Turkey).
2. Competitors: who else is doing this
It does the same thing: templated AI portraits + image-to-short-video + subscription credits. This is the most crowded lane in Play Photo & Video. 2026-11-06 Among the top 70 on India's Play Photo & Video Top Grossing chart, at least 25 are in this category (googleplay library v_chart).

(googleplay library app / app_profile) LumaSprig, FrameBloom, AsterLoop, and MoriFrame all share the proeai.com privacy-page template, and their descriptions all open with "Bring your photos to life with X. PHOTO TO MOTION……".
The closest match to Apertelle is Movora: it also charted only on India's Photo & Video Top Grossing, also in 1 stores; its privacy page likewise sits under a "personal-name .site" domain (alihantakaz.site/Movora-Privacy-Policy-Android.html, and the privacy URL of its other app Photo Revival contains the pinyin "anzhuo", meaning "Android"); likewise an anonymous creator identity and credits plus subscription. The two are highly structurally consistent, but there is no direct evidence that they are the same operator.
Conclusion: compared with these products, Apertelle shows no functional difference, and its scale is the smallest in this group.
3. Growth tactics: where users come from
| Channel | Evidence | Confirmed? |
|---|---|---|
| Meta ads | metaads library app_link lookup by package name, iOS id, and page name, 0 entries | Nothing found (the Meta library only covers advertisers surfaced by keyword discovery, so this doesn't prove no ads were run) |
| Google Ads | The googleads library has listed it for checking, status = no_ads | Nothing found |
| TikTok ads / content | tiktokads library no_ads (covers Europe only); TikHub search for "Apertelle" returned 0 videos | Nothing found |
| X / media | x-radar search over 30 days returned 0 posts; Jina / Exa only surfaced auto-generated store-stats pages such as AppBrain, Softonic, and StoreIntel | No coverage |
| Store search / new-release recommendations | 450–650 installs a day, all concentrated on India's top-grossing chart; the name is coined, so nobody searches for it; the description has no keyword stuffing | Speculation, unverified |
| Paid acquisition (possibly via proxy accounts) | A 2-week-old new app is steadily adding hundreds a day across 1 countries, while the similar Movora shows a pulse curve: a jump every other day of 2,000, then decay (googleplay app_day). It looks like the shape of budget-driven paid acquisition. | Speculation, unverified |
The most likely explanation: small-budget acquisition in a cheap-CPI market like India first, then the user hits the subscription wall the moment they open the app, and the team tests payback. Three pieces of evidence. First, 11-02's update specifically changed the subscription cards and "membership-aware startup behavior". Second, the iOS IAP names are themselves a paywall ladder: Select / Signature / Surprise / Special / Welcome Back Weekly, Creation Reward Offer, Private Invitation, Archive, from the iOS IAP list seen during recall. Third, the Android in-app purchase range is $4.99–199.99. No ad account was found, so paid acquisition is not confirmed.
4. Why it took off
- The Top Grossing bar is low: in the India Photo & Video Top Grossing band from #44 to #48, a new app with 2,000–6,000 installs can squeeze in (Apertelle at 2,369 installs was #44, Movora at 6,633 installs was #48). That rank does not reflect scale.
- Charges from the start: generation requires credits, credit packs require a subscription first; the weekly subscription in India is ₹999 (about $12). Even when very few people pay, the chart rank can still climb.
- Reusing one backend and playbook: iOS goes first (9-23) as a test, Android follows 4 weeks later; the same account also put Nuvellure on iOS. This is the clone-matrix approach: each package costs little, and you see which one pays back.
- Timing: in mid-2026-10, a batch of "AI Photo Motion" clones flooded Play Photo & Video (LumaSprig, FrameBloom, AsterLoop, MoriFrame, Movora, and Mistmere all listed between 10-13 and 10-21), suggesting image-to-video model costs have dropped enough for small teams to run subscription businesses on them. Apertelle rode this wave; it did not lead it.
5. Differentiation
No differentiation. The description copy ("DIRECT THE LOOK", "MOVE FROM STILL TO MOTION", "treatments") and features (templates, prompt editing, multi-photo input, image-to-video, a works library) are nearly identical to a dozen-plus clones from the same period. It also didn't break out through differentiation; it charted because of the low chart bar, a hard paywall, and very low per-package cost. It is weaker than its peers: LumaSprig and FrameBloom each gained 47k to 60k installs in a week across 17–27 stores, while Apertelle is in only one store with a few thousand installs.
6. Visibility and copycats
- Visibility: few people know about it yet. No media, X, or TikTok mentions it; only auto-generated store-stats pages exist. Revenue is not public. The third-party estimate cited during recall puts the single app's monthly revenue below $1K; unverified.
- Copycat: it is itself a copycat. At least 10 same-structure clones in this lane appeared in the same period (see section 2), and the lane is very crowded.
7. Takeaways
- Want to test an "AI template + subscription" category? Start with a sideload build in low-cost markets like India or Egypt. Watch the Top Grossing position and paid conversion with a tiny install count. It's cheap, but that rank is not a demand signal.
- Tiered paywall A/B: multiple weekly subscription tiers, a win-back price (Welcome Back), a reward price (Creation Reward), an invite price (Private Invitation); bundle credit packs with the subscription to raise average order value.
- Don't require sign-up for anonymous workspaces (it's stated in the privacy page), which cuts drop-off before the paywall. Reviewers use a hidden entry point (Movora's privacy page says "tap the Settings title 10 times").
- Ship iOS first, Android later, and spread accounts across different legal entities to diversify account risk.
8. Uncertain
- Where the installs come from: none of the three ad libraries matched, so paid acquisition is not confirmed. Google app ads may also run under a proxy or another entity's name.
- How much it earns: what India's Photography Top Grossing #44 is worth in money is unverified.
- Whether it's the same operator as Movora (streamflow / alihantakaz.site): the structure is highly similar, but there is no shared domain, email, or entity.
- Whether BaoTeng has other Play apps: our database only has this one, since it only records apps that have charted.
