# Drama Sprout: 16k installs, surged into the top 8 of the Thailand and Indonesia category charts. It's one of 5 packages from a shell matrix launched on the same day, Oct 22.

**What it is:** a free Android app for watching short dramas, monetized only by ads. It targets Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and South Africa, and is one package in a shell matrix.

**Why it took off:** the operator mass-launched packages and split them by country. They put this one in the "Video Players & Editors" category, which almost nobody was competing for, so it reached the charts with a few thousand daily installs. Users came for "no VIP needed, free to watch", and some were migrated from older packages.

**D** **How to follow it** Don't copy this app; the transferable part is distribution: find a cold category chart in a target country where the top spots are all big players and no new app has charted, then ship one build per market, using compliant content and your own niche.

Grade D: it relies on rented developer accounts, probably unlicensed content, a marketing team, and traffic from older packages. The product itself has nothing worth copying. The free short-drama space is also crowded with ByteDance, Kunlun, and many similar shells. Learning about the arbitrage in quiet categories is worthwhile, but I don't recommend following it. Few people know about it yet.

Data (updated daily) · first launch 2026-10-22 · 11-07 installs 16,133

Android · Total installs worldwide

Drama Sprout is a free short-drama app on Google Play, launched in Oct 22. By Nov 5 it had 16,133 installs in total. In Nov 6 it ranked #8 in the free "Video Players & Editors" chart in Thailand and Indonesia, #10 in South Africa, and #20 in the Philippines. There are no in-app purchases; it earns entirely from ads. The product itself isn't special. The same operator has 15 apps built on the same template, both short-drama and browser apps, under different developer accounts. 22 of them launched on Oct 5, with each package assigned a group of countries. Drama Sprout got Southeast Asia plus South Africa. Below: how it reached the charts on so few installs, where the money comes from, and whether it's worth following.

### A Thai user who can't afford VIP

On the morning of Oct 31, a Thai user gave Drama Sprout 4 stars:

> This app is great, especially for people like us who can't afford VIP. There's every kind of show you could want, and it's free. I can binge shows happily. Ads don't bother me, and that's already good enough.

Another 5-star review the same day said: "There are fewer ads than some apps, lots of shows to pick from, but sometimes the picture is a bit blurry."

These two reviews pretty much explain what it sells. People in Thailand and Indonesia are used to binge-watching on WeTV and iQIYI, where good content requires VIP. Paid short-drama apps like ReelShort and DramaBox sell coins by the episode. Drama Sprout's pitch: skip all of that, just watch ads.

The timing is odd. These reviews were written between Oct 29 and 31: 8 Thai-language reviews in total, 7 at 5 stars and 1 at 4 stars. Meanwhile the store page still showed 0 installs, and the count only jumped to 5,845 in Nov 3. Real downloads started roughly a week before the counter caught up, and the count was added in bulk later.

### What it is

The store listing has one paragraph of English: "Turn every spare moment into a good story. Curated short dramas with gripping openings, unexpected twists, and episode after episode." The version number starts at 5.0.2, and there have been no updates since Oct 22. The new package starts at 5.x, which suggests the code was copied over from another package as-is.

The developer is MnM PlayStudios. Another app under this account is an animal quiz game, whose description says it belongs to a small Indian company. An Indian account that makes quiz games suddenly launching a short-drama app aimed at Thailand most likely means the account was rented or bought (inference). The privacy policy is a template from a free online generator, with "Drama Sprout" as the company name and "Washington State, USA" as the address. The support page was created on Oct 20 and has only a title.

It's listed under "Video Players & Editors" rather than an entertainment category. That detail matters, as explained below. It's the key reason it could chart.

### It has 14 siblings

Drama Sprout's website and privacy policy sit under `dramasprout.b7m6.com`. Searching Google Play for all apps under the domain b7m6.com turns up 15 apps with about 6.08M installs combined (Google Play data, 11-06):

| App | Launched | Installs | Main market |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vanta Surf (browser) | 2026-06-08 | 3.49M | Brazil and others |
| Lunar Edge (browser) | 04-27 | 580k | Spain |
| AmorDrama | 07-07 | 530k | Thailand (already declining) |
| NaviCore | 06-12 | 500k | US |
| Reelora | 09-29 | 230k | Latin America, US, Spain |
| StarDramaClub | 09-29 | 116k | Thailand, Indonesia |
| **Drama Comet** | **10-22** | 54k | Brazil |
| **Sprout Shorts** | **10-22** | 26k | Brazil |
| **Drama Sprout** | **10-22** | 16k | Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, South Africa |
| **PlotPop** | **10-22** | 13k | India |
| **Comet Shorts** | **10-22** | 1,670 | France, Italy |

15 apps sit under a dozen different developer names, including individuals in Pakistan and small companies in India and Morocco. What ties them together are the traces left by copying the template. Drama Comet belongs to another developer account, but its listed developer website is `dramasprout.b7m6.com`, a leftover nobody changed. The same contact email appears on three accounts with different names, and another email is attached to three packages. The copy is the same too: "Short dramas, romance and revenge, pick up where you left off."

The Oct 22 batch was split by market very deliberately: two targeted Brazil, one India, one France and Italy, and Drama Sprout Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and South Africa. Same code and content library, different names and accounts, and each package covers only one group of countries. If one package dies, only that market is affected, and it's easy to see which countries pay back.

### How 16k installs got it to #8

The answer is the category. In Thailand's Video Players & Editors free chart, apart from it, the top 20 is almost all giants and tools like TikTok, YouTube, CapCut and Bilibili. Few apps on that chart are really fighting for new users, and the bar is low: a few thousand installs a day gets you into the top 10. The same volume in the Entertainment category wouldn't get you into the top 100.

Charting gets free organic exposure from the store. Another data site, AppWinners, shows it appearing on 59 charts across 63 countries, 11-06 mostly shared aggregate charts in small countries like Estonia, Norway, and the Solomon Islands, where it ranks in the fifties. Volume is small, but each placement is free exposure.

So where do the few thousand daily installs come from? Two clues are visible from outside:

- **Paid acquisition (inferred, medium confidence).** Installs appeared in batches, with none of the slow climb you see from word of mouth. In Oct 27 it created a Facebook page, "Drama Sprout TV", which had only 6 followers by Nov 10. Sister apps of the same short-drama shell type have been confirmed buying installs through short-drama clip ads on Meta. How much this one spent, I couldn't find.

- **Old-package migration (inferred).** In Oct 29 a Thai review said "moved to the new app, much easier to use" and another said "the old version was fine too." That suggests some users were pulled in from an older package by the operator. AmorDrama, a Thailand-focused app in the same portfolio that has since declined, is the most likely source, but I can't confirm it. The 0 star reviews that appeared when the install count was 5 could be these migrated users, or could be incentivized ratings.

On TikTok, searching "Drama Sprout" returns 0 results; on X, 30 posts in 0 days; no media coverage. On YouTube there's a channel with the same name, 1 subscribers, posting a few clips of "contract marriage, domineering CEO" dramas. Its impact is negligible.

### Where the money comes from

Ads only: the store listing says "contains ads" and there are no in-app purchases. Interstitials plus rewarded video, where users watch an ad to unlock an episode.

Ad CPMs in Southeast Asia and South Africa aren't high, but installs are cheap too. The logic for these apps is: if a user brings in more ad revenue than it cost to acquire them, scale the budget; if a package doesn't pay back, stop buying and switch to the next one. The portfolio launched a new batch of packages in October, which suggests the math is working out (inferred). The actual CPMs and returns aren't visible from outside.

There's also a problem you can't get around: the content. Users treat it in reviews as a player where "you can find anything you want to watch." Someone asked for Naruto Shippuden, and someone said the picture is blurry. Whether the content is licensed isn't visible from outside, but most likely it isn't (inferred). In Nov 4 a user was still asking "why won't it install on my tablet?", and the app doesn't support tablets at all.

### Who it's competing with

| Competitors | Scale | Compared with Drama Sprout |
|---|---|---|
| ReelShort / DramaBox | About 300M installs each | Has its own original licensed library, earns from coins and subscriptions |
| FreeReels / DramaWave | 150M–250M installs | Also free with ads, but with licensed content and big budgets |
| Melolo / PineDrama (ByteDance) | PineDrama 84M | ByteDance's own free short dramas, with Facebook pages per country for ads |
| Loklok | 2.07M, 7 days +360k | Free drama and movie app in Southeast Asia; #3 on the same Indonesia category chart |
| WeTV, iQIYI, Bilibili | 100M+ | Legitimate, but good content requires VIP; Drama Sprout is capturing users who don't want to pay for VIP |
| OlaDrama, StarDramaClub, etc. | 90k–120k | The same playbook as shells, or outright sister apps |

Its only pitch, "truly free, ads don't repeat," is what half its rivals are also saying. It reached #8 in Thailand because the operator assigned it this set of countries and picked a category nobody was fighting over, not because it's better than the others.

### If it were you

**Verdict:** Don't copy this app. Drama Sprout has no product worth learning from. It's one screw in a package-spamming machine: rented developer accounts, dubious content sources, an ad team that adjusts budgets by country, and a set of old packages to migrate users from. An indie developer building their own product almost certainly has none of these four. The two distribution tricks worth noting are: obscure category charts, and one package per market.

**Who it suits:** Teams that already have a setup for buying installs on Meta or Google and can calculate whether ads pay back; people who have compliant content (licensed films, their own IP, public domain) and want a cheap monetization outlet.

**Who it doesn't suit:** Indie developers who've never run ads; anyone unwilling to touch pirated content or gamble their developer account on a ban.

**How to do it:** If you want its playbook, switch to a clean category:

1. **Find a category nobody is fighting over.** In the country you plan to target, scan the free charts of adjacent categories (Video Players, Tools, Personalization, Entertainment) for the top 20. Look for charts where the top is all giants and almost no new apps sit in the middle. There, a few thousand daily installs can get you into the top 10, and charting brings free exposure. This only works if your app fits the category credibly.

2. **One package per market.** Same codebase, split into several packages by language and region, each targeting one group of countries, so you can compare where it pays back and don't put all your eggs in one account. Every package still has to follow store policy: no fake reviews, no infringing content.

3. **Prepare old users for the new package.** Before the old version declines, move users to the new one inside the app, so a new package doesn't start from zero.

**How to acquire users:** Mainly paid ads, with organic chart exposure as a supplement. For creative, the formula for this genre is a plot hook plus "watch the full version free." Clips must be ones you have the rights to use.

**When to get in:** You don't control the window. A shell portfolio like this rarely lasts long per package, and once Google starts clearing short-drama shells out of obscure categories in bulk, this playbook gets tighter. The category-arbitrage method works on your own compliant category at any time.

**What would mean I got this wrong:** (1) Several months from now Drama Sprout and its siblings are still around, still launching new packages, and haven't been removed in bulk, which would mean this model is more stable than it looks; (2) the Video Players category quickly fills with similar short-drama shells, raising the bar and showing the cheap entry is gone; (3) someone builds a Southeast Asian short-drama app with legitimate content, fully free and ad-monetized, that reaches a million installs. That would be the version a small team can actually follow.

## Why Drama Sprout (com.app.dramasprout.org) got off the ground

> Channel: Google Play | Developer account: MnM PlayStudios | Launched: 2026-10-22 | Category: Video Players & Editors | Research date: 2026-11-06

### Bottom line

It hasn't really taken off. Drama Sprout is one package in a "b7m6.com shell portfolio": the same operator uses a dozen unrelated developer accounts (personal gmail accounts and small "XX Pvt Ltd" companies from Pakistan, India and Morocco) to batch-publish template-based short-drama and browser apps, and 10-22 launched 5 packages on this one day. Drama Sprout was assigned Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and South Africa. It sits in the low-barrier Video Players category, and with 16k cumulative installs it reached #8 on the Thailand and Indonesia free charts. Users install it because it offers "no VIP needed, free to watch dramas," with not too many ads; the money comes back through ads (ad_supported=True, no in-app purchases).

#### 2.1 Sibling packages from the same operator (b7m6.com matrix)

How to check: in the googleplay library, find apps whose developer website or privacy policy points to `*.b7m6.com`. There are 15 in total, with roughly 6.08M installs combined:

| App | Developer accounts (all different) | Launched | Installs | 7-day gain | Main market |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vanta Surf (browser) | Tariq Mehmoodd | 2026-06-08 | 3.49M | +487k | Brazil and others |

| Peak Surf (browser) | Zomoney | 09-09 | 200k | +84k | English-speaking markets |
| StarDramaClub | SmartApp Technology Group | 09-29 | 116k | +43k | Thailand / Indonesia |
| **Drama Comet** | 10xStartup Technology Ltd | **10-22** | 54k | +54k | Brazil (category chart #6) |
| **Sprout Shorts** | Tech Velvet Co Ltd | **10-22** | 26k | +26k | Brazil |
| **Drama Sprout** | MnM PlayStudios | **10-22** | 16k | +16k | Thailand / Indonesia / Philippines / South Africa |
| **PlotPop** | Zomoney | **10-22** | 13k | — | India |
| SceneBreak / FlickShow | Adamjee Campus 14 | 10-15 / 10-16 | 13k / 1,304 | — | UK / Canada / Australia / US |
| **Comet Shorts** | EraDev Studio | **10-22** | 1,670 | — | France / Italy |

(googleplay library app, app_profile, chart_rank, 2026-11-06)

Several pieces of evidence tie them together into one company:

- **Drama Comet (a different developer account) lists the developer website as `dramasprout.b7m6.com`** , the same domain as Drama Sprout. This is a template copy that wasn't updated.

- The same email `adamjee14.briskteck@gmail.com` appears on three accounts under different names: Vanta Surf (Tariq Mehmoodd), AmorDrama (Shahid abbass), and SceneBreak / FlickShow (Adamjee Campus 14). `zomoney.case@gmail.com` is tied to NaviCore, Peak Surf, and PlotPop at the same time.

- The copy follows the same formula: "short dramas … romance, revenge … pick up where you left off." Launch dates also come in batches: 9-29 two apps, 10-22 five apps.

- The privacy policy comes from a "Free Privacy Policy Generator" template, naming the company "Drama Sprout" with the country "Washington, United States." The support page 2026-10-20 was only just created and has one heading, "about."

- The developer account was borrowed: another app under the MnM PlayStudios account is Animalia Quiz Game from a small Indian company (its description reads "A project of Heaven group of Industries powered by Paradise Enterprises," contact email paradiseenterprisespvtltd@gmail.com). This is a classic account rental or purchase, using an old account to host new shells rather than something the company built itself.

10-22 The market split is clear: Drama Comet and Sprout Shorts target Brazil, PlotPop targets India, Comet Shorts targets France and Italy, and Drama Sprout targets Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and South Africa. Each app covers a group of countries, all on the same content library and codebase.

#### 2.2 serious competitors in the category

| Product | Where | Launched | Scale | How it differs from Drama Sprout |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ReelShort / DramaBox | Android/iOS | 2022-08 / 2023-04 | Roughly 300M installs each (googleplay library, see the DramaVibe report) | Has its own licensed content library and makes money from coins and subscriptions; Drama Sprout is free and relies only on ads |
| FreeReels / DramaWave (Kunlun) | Android | 2024 | 150M–250M | Big players run "free + ads," the same model as Drama Sprout, but with licensed content and bigger budgets |
| PineDrama (TikTok), Melolo (ByteDance) | Big-company features / Android | 2025 | PineDrama 84M | ByteDance runs its own free short-drama apps and buys Facebook ads by country with dedicated pages (for example Melolo Freedrama-PH) |
| Loklok | Android | 2025-12 (current package) | 2.07M, 7 days +360k; #3 on the Indonesia category chart | Southeast Asian "watch full shows / movies for free" apps; the user need matches the Thai reviews of Drama Sprout ("no need to open a VIP") |
| WeTV, iQIYI, Bilibili (#3 on the Thailand category chart) | Android | Already around | 100M+ | Licensed content, with good shows behind VIP; Drama Sprout targets exactly the people who don't want to pay for VIP |
| OlaDrama, StarDramaClub, and similar shells | Android | Around 2026-09 | 90k–120k | OlaDrama is #18 on the Indonesia category chart; it's a same-type rival or a sibling package |

There's no clear product differentiation for Drama Sprout: no original content, no special features, and generic template copy.

### 3. Growth tactics

| Channel | Evidence | Confirmed? |
|---|---|---|
| Matrix of packages, spend by country | 15 b7m6.com packages, several rented developer accounts, 10-22 released 5 apps on the same day, each targeting different countries (see 2.1) | Confirmed |
| Arbitrage on quiet category charts | Listed under VIDEO_PLAYERS, not Entertainment. In the Thailand top 20, apart from it, there are only giants and utilities like TikTok, YouTube, CapCut, and Bilibili, and 16k cumulative installs was enough to rank #8. Charting brings extra organic store exposure. | Confirmed (chart_rank) |
| Paid acquisition (mainly Meta) | The growth curve appeared in batches with no organic word-of-mouth ramp; 10-27 created a new Facebook page "Drama Sprout TV" (page id 61595991508172, very new); sibling app DramaVibe has been confirmed using Meta ads with long-form clips to drive installs. Our metaads library doesn't track this page (the library only tracks pages on its list, so not finding it doesn't mean there's no spend). | Inference, moderate evidence |
| Migration of existing users / in-app cross-promotion | 10-29's Thai reviews include "ย้ายแอปใหม่ ใช้งานง่ายขึ้นมาก" (moved to the new app, much easier to use) and "เวอร์ชั่นเก่าก็ดี" (the old version was good too). This suggests a group of users were pulled over from the operator's older packages (such as the now-declining AmorDrama, which also targets Thailand). | Inference (review evidence only) |
| Early rating push | When the install count was still 0 (10-29 to 10-31), it had 8 Thai reviews, 7 of them 5-star and 1 4-star, mostly very short ("good", "ดีมากจริงๆ"). These could be migrated older users, or prompted five-star ratings. | Suspicious |
| YouTube Shorts | There's a @DramaSprout-q7u channel with only 1 subscribers, posting clips of "contract marriage, domineering CEO" short dramas. The reach is negligible. | Confirmed to exist, minimal impact |
| TikTok / X / media / creators | TikHub search for "Drama Sprout" returned 0 results; x-radar over 30 days returned 0 posts; no media coverage | Confirmed none |

**Where the money comes from:** There are no in-app purchases; it relies entirely on ads (interstitial / rewarded video). The lower the paid acquisition cost per install in a country, the better the economics, which is why Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and South Africa were chosen. The ad revenue ceiling is low, but each package also costs little. Within the matrix, whichever package pays back gets more budget, and the ones that don't get dropped.

### 4. Why it took off

1. **Distribution, not product.** Mass releases, packages assigned by country, and listing in the quiet Video Players category turned 16k installs into #8 on the Thailand and Indonesia charts, plus long-tail chart exposure across 59 countries (googleplay library, AppWinners).

2. **The demand in Southeast Asia already exists.** Users in Thailand and Indonesia are used to binge-watching on WeTV and iQIYI, but they don't want to pay for VIP. Thai reviews say: "เหมาะกับคนที่ไม่มีเงินสมัครvip … ดูได้ทุกแนวทุกเรื่อง … ไม่เสียเงิน" (good for people who can't afford VIP, watch every genre, no cost), and "โฆษณาก็ไม่เยอะเหมือนบางแอพ" (not as many ads as some apps). Some reviewers even ask for Naruto Shippuden, suggesting users treat it as a free player with everything, not just a short-drama app.

3. **It can absorb the operator's existing users.** Reviews saying "moved to the new app" show the matrix is using old packages to send traffic to new ones, so new packages don't start from zero.

4. **The category has already been trained by the big players.** ReelShort, DramaBox, and ByteDance's Melolo / PineDrama have run heavy ads across Southeast Asia, so users already respond to hooks like "domineering CEO, contract marriage."

### 5. Differentiation

For users, there's only one difference: **it's truly free, and the ads aren't heavy.** That hits the pain points of pay-per-episode short-drama apps (coins) and long-form platforms (VIP). But this isn't unique to it: a dozen packages in the same matrix, FreeReels, Melolo, and Loklok all do it too. It reached #8 in Thailand because the operator assigned this market to it and the Video Players category has a low entry bar, not because it's better than rivals. So the reason it worked is the distribution playbook, not differentiation.

### 6. How many people have seen it

- Revenue isn't public, no founder, no press coverage; 0 posts on X, 0 on TikTok.

- Only shows up on auto-scraped data sites like AppBrain, AppInsider, AppWinners, Appfigures and chrome-stats (chrome-stats even has an auto-generated "Drama Sprout vs Sprout Shorts" comparison page).

- Verdict: **few people know about it yet.** But the business itself (shell short-drama app + free + ads) is already crowded: our earlier reports have broken down dozens of similar shell apps like DramaVibe, Reelora, AmorDrama and OlaDrama.

### 7. What's worth borrowing

- **Niche category + small-country aggregate charts:** The Video Players category has a very low bar in Southeast Asia and small markets. A few thousand daily installs can reach the top 10 and earn extra store exposure.

- **One app per market:** The same codebase with a different name and account, each app targeting one group of countries. If one app dies, only that one goes down, and it's easy to compare paid acquisition returns by country.

- **Positioning as "no VIP needed":** Southeast Asian users are sensitive to paywalls, so "free + restrained ads" is the selling point, and reviews say so themselves.

- Know the risks: the content is most likely unlicensed (users treat it as a player that can show anything), the accounts are rented, and takedown risk is high. This playbook rotates apps frequently, so any single app won't last long.

### 8. Still unclear

- Whether it runs Meta ads and how much: the metaads library doesn't track it. The FB page "Drama Sprout TV" only shows 10-27 page-creation posts.

- Where the content comes from and whether it's licensed, and what's actually in the app (reviews mention "the picture is sometimes blurry" and someone wants anime).

- Which old app the "move to a new app" traffic came from (AmorDrama is only a guess).

- Whether the early 5-star reviews came from real users migrating over or were bought.

- No data on ad revenue or ROI. AppInsider's "100k+ downloads per month" is a range estimate.

- The operator's real identity: the developer accounts belong to individuals in Pakistan, India, Morocco and elsewhere, and the registration info for the b7m6.com domain couldn't be found.
