A $0.99 glass widget pack: over two thousand installs in a month. What's really worth watching is the X account behind it giving away codes
What it is A $0.99 Android widget pack that turns your home screen into iPhone-style liquid glass, using accessibility permission to read the screen behind widgets for a real blur effect.
Why it caught on It didn't really: the first week's volume came from the developer's X giveaway posts and Play pre-registration. It charted in a dozen-plus countries because the paid personalization chart has a very low bar, so two thousand installs is enough to stick.
CHow you could follow it Don't build another paid glass widget. Borrow the cold-start method instead: grow an X account that posts wallpapers first, then before a new app launches, open pre-registration, post repost-to-win code giveaways, and offer a launch discount, then push for the low-bar paid category charts, applied to a new style nobody has overdone yet.

On Oct 7, Indian studio AppsLab Co. listed Liquid Glass Widgets : Blur on Google Play, a paid widget pack that makes an Android home screen look like iOS "liquid glass." A month later it's charting in a dozen countries' paid personalization categories, which looks like momentum. In reality it has 2,472 installs. Don't copy the product: the glass widget niche is packed and the volume sits with free versions. What's worth stealing is the launch: an X account with 40k followers running giveaways, combined with Play pre-registration, got over a thousand installs in week one with zero ad spend.
Three giveaway tweets
On Oct 2, X account @AppsLab_Co posted the first teaser: new thing "on the way," pre-registration open, 5 redeem codes to giveaway. The next day came a pre-registration post, 19.6k views, 10 codes. On launch day, Oct 7, it posted "is now LIVE … special launch offer," 8,479 views, 15 codes, rules were retweet plus comment, winners announced the next day, mostly Indian accounts. Later there was "One More Giveaway," another 10 codes.
The account has 42.7k followers and 1,799 posts. It's pinned to a wallpaper post with 1.8M views. It grows its audience with wallpapers and uses giveaways whenever a new app ships. This isn't a one-off: the August 2025 launches of Glass Widgets and November's NewThing Widgets PRO followed the same playbook.
A third-party estimate (AppstoreSpy) puts about 1,200 installs in the first week, over a hundred a day on launch days, which fits pre-registered users downloading together on launch day.
What it is
A one-time $0.99 purchase with $1.69–8.99 in-app purchases: 500+ glass-style widgets for clock, weather, calendar, battery, music, and steps, plus 600+ matching wallpapers, with adjustable blur, color, and tint. The store page keeps stressing "No KWGT, third-party launcher or extra app needed": no KWGT, no launcher swap.
What sets it apart from other glass widget packs is "real blur." Android widgets can't read the wallpaper behind them, so most "glass" widgets are just translucent color blocks. This app requests accessibility permission, locates its own widgets on the home screen, reads the screen area behind them, and renders real blur. The store page explains the permission as: "Finds this app's own widgets on your home screen and keeps the glass behind them synchronized. Nothing leaves your phone." No ads, no sign-up.
Buyers like it: 146 ratings, averaging 4.33, with 104 five-star reviews (Google Play, 11-06). One Oct 14 review reads: "Looked AI-generated from the screenshots so I was skeptical, but this app really nails the iOS glass widgets. Only a dollar… too many 'widget UI' apps look decent but either shove in ads or charge way more."
It hasn't really taken off
| Date | Cumulative global installs | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 10-14 | 1,227 | AppstoreSpy estimate |
| 10-20 | 1,661 | AppstoreSpy estimate |
| 10-28 | 1,915 | AppstoreSpy estimate |
| 11-03 | 2,341 | Google Play |
| 11-06 | 2,472 | Google Play |
After the first-week spike of about 1,200, daily installs fell to a dozen-odd by late October, then recovered from Oct 29 to 60–80 a day. The recovery overlaps with a price cut and the version 1.1 release that added "Liquid Glass Dock" (inferred, can't be separated). The price has moved around: $1.29 around launch, then list price $1.89, now discounted to $0.99.
Why does a couple thousand installs get it charting? Because paid personalization charts have a very low bar. 11-06 It ranks #16 in the paid personalization chart across 15 stores including Singapore, Thailand, India, and Mexico, and #31 in the US. Another chart site says it's on 317 charts in 155 countries, with the best being Ethiopia's paid personalization chart at #1. A few dozen paid downloads a day keep it in those spots, and a price cut pushes it higher. So "charting in many countries" signals a small, easy-to-reach paid chart, not big demand.
Revenue is small too. A rough estimate of paid downloads puts it on the order of 2,500 × $1; one third-party estimate has monthly active users around 500 and monthly revenue under $10k (unverified).
Who it's competing with
Glass styling has been a hot phone-customization trend since iOS 26. TikTok tutorials for "liquid glass widgets android" often pull hundreds of thousands to millions of views (for example @heyisiinha's Aug 31 video at 1.3M), but none name this app. The volume goes to free versions:
| Product | Launched | Scale (Google Play) | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Glassify: Widgets & Themes | 2026-04 | 1.18M installs, +7k in the last 75 days | Free, widgets plus themes |
| Glass Widgets(JustNewDesigns) | 2026-10-21 | 72k installs, +7k in the last 65 days | Same name, free + ads, 750+ widgets |
| Wadiget: Glass Widget & Themes | 2026-07 | 96k installs | Free |
| Glass Widgets (AppsLab's earlier app) | 2025-08 | About 200k installs, $1.99 | Translucent "fake" glass, 350+ widgets |
| Launcher OS 26 and other glass launchers | 2026 | About 170K installs | Requires switching launchers; blur happens inside the launcher |
The one to watch is JustNewDesigns' free pack with the same name: it launched two weeks later and grew 65k in a week, roughly 100× this app. AppsLab built up the "Glass Widgets" term with its paid version, and the free version took the search traffic. Its own "real blur" doesn't help much: users have to enable accessibility permission in settings, and in price-sensitive markets like India, Southeast Asia, and Latin America, an extra permission on top of a paid app only makes more people walk away.
AppsLab's own glass lineup is getting thinner: the earlier Glass Widgets had about 200k installs, followed by DarkGlass Widgets at 26k and Glass Icon Pack at 19k, and this app at 2,472. Each later SKU in the same style picks up less. In the launch month, several cracked-app sites also posted "Paid/Patched" versions, pulling away some people who would have paid.
If it were you
Verdict: Don't copy this product. The glass widget niche is saturated, volume is in free-plus-ads, and the paid version hasn't even reached a fraction of its predecessor's installs. The launch playbook is what's worth taking.
Who it fits: Android personalization developers who already have, or are willing to spend months building, an X or Telegram account in the customization space; anyone with a new style (not glass) widget or icon pack who wants a zero-budget cold start.
Who it doesn't fit: People hoping to launch another paid pack on "glass widgets" alone; people with no audience of their own who rely only on store search; people unwilling to handle accessibility-permission review.
How to do it: Build an audience with wallpaper posts first (its pinned wallpaper post has 1.8M views). One week before the new pack launches, open Play pre-registration, post two or three "retweet + comment to win a redeem code" posts, and offer a launch price on day one. On the product side, either go free-plus-ads and fight for the big keywords, or pick a new style that hasn't been overdone. The real-blur technique is worth borrowing, but make it optional so it doesn't block the paid conversion.
How to get users: Giveaways from your own X account, Play pre-registration, limited-time price cuts to climb a low-bar paid category chart, then self-promotion in Reddit customization subs (it posted a "[PROMO]" thread in r/HowToMen).
Timing: The glass trend took off with iOS 26. When Apple ships the next system version around June next year, the customization crowd may switch styles. If you want to do glass, the window is before then; the better move is to grow the account first and ship the next style the moment it appears.
Signs you've read it wrong: If this app's daily installs hold at several hundred or more over the next few weeks, or if its paid personalization bestseller chart (currently at best #32 in India) climbs into the top 10, that suggests paid plus real blur is finding buyers on Android, and the case is worth revisiting.

Bottom line
Not really breaking out yet: after a month live it has 2,472 installs and 60–80 per day, a small paid app. It shows up in the recs because the Personalized Paid chart has a very low bar: a thousand or two installs can land #18 in 16 stores (and 15 stores tied at #16, which is aggregate-chart noise). What's worth a look is the developer behind it, AppsLab Co., a small Indian studio that runs a paid widget catalog on top of an X account with 42.7k followers built on giveaways, pre-registration, and limited-time discounts. Its Glass Widgets (2025-08) has about 200k paid installs and is riding the iOS 26 Liquid Glass wave. This one is the 4th SKU in the same glass series, and the real product news is "true blur": it uses accessibility permissions to read the screen content behind the widget and then renders a blur over it.
1. Data
- Installs (global cumulative): 10-14 1,227 → 10-17 1,492 → 10-20 1,661 → 10-25 1,876 → 10-28 1,915 (AppstoreSpy est.) → 10-31 2,099 → 11-03 2,341 → 11-06 2,472 (GP library). +557 over the last 7 days.
- Trend: the first week spiked to about 1,200 (10-14 alone about 174/day, AppstoreSpy est.), showing launch volume came mainly from pre-registration and launch posts; it then decayed to about 13/day by 10-28; from 10-29 it recovered to 60–80/day. The recovery overlaps with a price cut and the 1.1 version (which added "Liquid Glass Dock"); this is inference.
- Rating: 126 → 146 (GP library), 4.33 stars; distribution 11-06 is [1 star 6, 2 star 6, 3 star 20, 4 star 6, 5 star 104], with no sign of review prompting.
- Price: paid $0.99 + in-app purchases $1.69–8.99 (GP library). Third-party records: $1.29 around 10-08 (apppage.net); AppAgg shows original price $1.89, current $0.99 (-48%). The pattern looks like launch discount → restore → discount again. The privacy policy calls the in-app purchases "optional donations". No ads (ad_supported=False).
- Charts (GP library 11-06): #16 in Top Paid Personalized in Mexico / India, #31 in the US; #57 in India Top Paid, #58 in Mexico, #84 in the US; #40 in India Personalized Top Grossing (charted from 11-01, best #32); roughly #110–127 in the US Personalized Top Grossing.
- The card's claim that it "reached near the top of the US Top Paid Personalized chart" doesn't hold. In the GP library, its best US rank is #24 (11-02).
- appwinners.eu says it 11-06 charts in 155 countries across 317 lists, with its best spot at #1 on Ethiopia's Top Paid Personalization chart. That shows how low the bar is on paid personalization charts in small countries.
- Third-party estimate: appgoblin estimates about 503 MAU and $10k monthly revenue, developer based in India. A rough calculation puts paid download revenue at around 2,500 × $1 (unverified).

Bottom line: the category is already crowded, and the volume is on the free side. It's the 4th paid SKU in its own glass line, and its scale is at the bottom among competitors.
3. Where users come from
- Developer X account giveaway (confirmed): @AppsLab_Co has 42.7k followers and 1,799 posts, and its pinned wallpaper post has 1.8M views. This app's promo rhythm:
- 10-02 "on the way, Pre-registration Now", giving away 5 codes;
- 10-03 pre-registration post, 19.6k views, giving away 10 codes;
- 10-07 "is now LIVE … special launch offer", 8,479 views, giving away 15 codes, 10-08 announces winners (mostly Indian accounts);
- Then a "One More Giveaway" giving away 10 more codes. "Repost + comment to win a code" is a fixed play across its whole matrix (Glass Widgets 2025-08, NewThing Widgets PRO 2025-11 both do it). This channel brings roughly 1,000 installs in the first week, but it's hard to sustain.
- Play pre-registration (confirmed): the X post states "Pre-registration Now", and the AppstoreSpy curve shows about 1,200 installs in the first week, consistent with pre-registered users converting in a cluster on launch day.
- Limited-time discount + deal/free-app sites (confirmed, impact not quantified): $1.29 launch price → original $1.89 → current $0.99 (AppAgg -48%). Other packs from the same dev have had discount posts on r/googleplaydeals (Galaxy Widgets: One UI $1.99→$1.00); Glass Widgets was also $1.00 before 10-30. Discounts can push the app up the paid charts, which then bring organic traffic from the charts.
- Category search terms and the TikTok tutorial wave (confirmed to exist, but this app isn't named): TikTok has lots of "liquid glass widgets android" tutorials, such as @heyisiinha 1.3M (2026-08-31), @imveurence 280k (10-17), @franqitoxd 106k (10-27), @kyden_x 84k (10-23, using CometOS). I didn't find a video naming this app. Its title "Liquid Glass Widgets : Blur" is aimed at store search traffic for the term "liquid glass widgets".
- Reddit self-promotion (confirmed): r/HowToMen has a "[PROMO] Liquid Glass Widgets: Blur 🫧" post (body fetch was blocked; only a search snippet was visible). The predecessor Glass Widgets has a user showcase post on r/smartlauncher.
- Cross-promotion within the dev's catalog (inferred): DepthX - Live Clock Wallpapers has 2.28M installs and +120k in 7 days, AppsLab's free flagship. Recent X posts mostly promote DepthX; whether the app funnels users to the paid widget packs isn't verified.
- Paid acquisition: no evidence found (the ad library only tracks listed products). The product has no ad SDK and is cheap and paid, so paid user acquisition is hard to recoup, and it most likely wasn't run.
- Piracy spread: within the launch month, sites like modyolo, apkmagic, and liteapks had Paid/Patched versions, showing that people in the customization crowd are paying attention while also diverting paid sales.
4. Why it made the charts (not why it took off)
- Timing: iOS 26/27's native Liquid Glass has kept glass styling a phone-customization hot topic for over a year, and Android "copy iPhone glass" tutorials on TikTok often hit millions of views.
- Owned distribution: a X giveaway account with 42.7k followers plus pre-registration gave a new paid app about 1,000 installs in its first week.
- Low bar for paid personalized charts: a thousand or two installs and a few dozen paid downloads a day can get you on paid personalized charts in dozens of countries, and discounts can keep pushing rank up.
- Series branding: "Glass Widgets" is already AppsLab's flagship (200k paid installs), so the new app reuses the "Glass" name and the same "No KWGT" pitch.
5. Differentiation
- Real blur: the privacy policy says it uses accessibility permission to locate its own widgets, read the screen behind them, and draw real blur. It only reads when the user taps "Update Glass" or moves a widget, not in the background. Most other glass widgets are just semi-transparent color blocks (whether other free glass packs also do real blur hasn't been checked one by one). There's also a "Dynamic mode" for dynamic glass wallpapers, and a Liquid Glass Dock added in version 1.1.
- No launcher, no KWGT, which sets it apart from the launcher route and the KWGT route.
- This differentiator didn't drive its growth: its volume mostly came from X giveaways and pre-registration; real blur requires accessibility permission, which actually raises the barrier to get started. Over the same period, the rougher but free JND app with the same name grew +65k in 7 days. A paid app plus accessibility permissions struggles to grow in price-sensitive markets like India, Southeast Asia, and Latin America.
6. Visibility and copycats
- Few people know about it yet: no public revenue figures, no coverage from media or big X accounts, and nothing in the x-radar corpus. It only shows up in AppsLab's own X giveaway circle, Reddit customization subs, and cracked-app sites.
- Copycats: the category was crowded long ago (the free JND app with the same name, Glassify, Wadiget, a range of Glass icon packs). I haven't seen anyone copying its "real blur + accessibility" approach specifically; the launcher route (GlassUI, Liquid Launcher) does real refraction.
7. Takeaways
- X "repost + comment to win a promo code" + Play pre-registration: the standard zero-budget cold start for a paid app. You could first grow a wallpaper-posting account (pinned post 1.8M views) to build followers, then use it to promote the app.
- Paid widget matrix: one style across multiple SKUs (Glass / DarkGlass / Liquid Glass / icon packs), with limited-time discounts rotated to push up the paid charts.
- Real blur via accessibility permission to get around Android widgets being unable to read the background: a reusable technical trick, but the permission bar and Play review carry risk.
- Lesson from the other side: in hot-keyword categories, a paid version can easily have its search traffic taken by a same-name free version (the JND case).
8. Uncertain
- The reason for the rebound from 10-29 (discounts, version 1.1, cross-promotion, or chart exposure): not broken down.
- Actual in-app purchase revenue ("donations" / widget packs): only known to have peaked at #32 in India Personalized Top Grossing; appgoblin estimates <$10k/month, unverified.
- Whether Google Play review will scrutinize the accessibility permission: unknown.
- Engagement data for the r/HowToMen promo post: not retrieved.
