1 USD to 82 pesos: AsalStar squeezed onto the social Top Grossing chart with 12k installs by offering Philippine hosts a few extra pesos
What it is A voice-room social app: hosts chat with listeners in rooms, listeners buy coins to send gifts. The paying users are mostly in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, and the hosts on the mic are mostly in the Philippines. It is one more package running the same white-label system under a different name.
Why it took off When it launched in October, it posted the highest withdrawal rate in Philippine host recruitment groups on Facebook (1 USD of gifts converted to 82 pesos, versus 70 and 75 for competitors). Add free-recharge tasks, the ability to self-send gifts, and agent commissions, and agents brought the hosts in. Voice-room revenue is concentrated in a few large Gulf spenders, and the grossing chart bar is low, so even a small install base can chart.
DHow you could follow A small team is not advised to follow. Only a team already running an overseas voice-room app, with its own white-label system, a Philippine agent network, withdrawal channels, and Middle East paying users, could run its October playbook: post higher withdrawal rates openly in the host groups of major platforms, pay agents by revenue share, and don't buy installs.

AsalStar is a voice-room tipping app aimed at the Gulf and the Philippines. After launch it had almost no installs for 7 weeks. In October it offered Philippine host recruitment groups a withdrawal rate higher than its peers, and hosts and agents moved over in batches. A small number of Gulf paying users tipped along, and with 12k installs it hit #53 on the Philippine Google Play social Top Grossing chart. This piece explains how it got there, where the money came from, and why small teams should only watch.
A three-line recruitment post
On the morning of October 2026 21 7:59, a person named Jorren Maming posted in the Facebook group "Tello Philippines." The group was originally for hosts of another voice-live app, Tello. The post body was just three lines of prices:
baka gusto niyo audio tasking open for host or agent. bl - 1$ = 70 nubee - 1$ = 75 asalstar - 1$ = 82
Roughly: anyone want to do "voice tasks"? Hosts and agents both get paid. The three lines below are the withdrawal rates of three apps, how many Philippine pesos a host gets for every 1 USD of gifts received in the app. AsalStar offers 82, 17% above BL and 9% above Nubee. Under the post there were 27 comments, and the top one asked "Anung apps to" (what app is this?). The same post was shared into several other groups.
Five days later, on Oct 26, a post on Instagram was more direct: "ASALSTAR earnings apps HIRING HOST AND AGENT 1$ - 82 pesos, minimum withdrawal 1$-5$-10$ …… Self Gifting Available, NO NEED RECHARGE TO GET FREE TASK": you can gift yourself, and you don't need to recharge to claim tasks. On Oct 28, a personal Facebook account posted "need 20 host active sa asalstar," with an agent invite code, and the ad image read "Mag-host sa audio panel (1–4 hours/day)": go on the voice-room mic for one to four hours a day.
That is how AsalStar took off: it spent nothing on users. All the money went to hosts.
What it is
On the store page it is called "AsalStar: Live Voice Chat," developer "Cozy Bite," listed on Google Play on Aug 2026 19. The description is ordinary: join voice rooms to listen, take the mic, find rooms by interest, with reporting and blocking. In-app purchases are $0.99–4.99 each, buying coins that are used to send gifts to people in the room.
This is the most common type of social app in the Middle East and Southeast Asia, known in the industry as "voice rooms": a room with eight or nine mic seats, hosts chatting and singing on them, listeners sending gifts, and gift revenue split three ways between the platform, the agency, and the host. The name "Asal" is Arabic for "honey." There is an Arabic version of the site, and the terms also include Turkish. The people paying are in the Gulf; the hosts on the mic are in the Philippines.
Its store copy, website template (<name>.com/privacy-policy.html), shell developer name plus a random Gmail, are nearly identical to RiwaPlay (23,14k installs in July) and MasaParty (7,8,336 installs in September), both launched the same year. Inference: it is one more package from the same white-label voice-room system under a different name, most likely from a Chinese team building overseas voice-room apps. Who exactly is behind it has not been determined.
Why October: slept for 7 weeks, took off in one week
The install curve (third-party estimate, AppstoreSpy) tells the story:
| Date | Total installs |
|---|---|
| 09-13 | About 120 |
| 10-04 | About 261 |
| 10-11 | About 2,208 |
| 10-21 | About 6,171 |
| 11-02 | 11,393 |
| 11-06 | 12,270 (Google Play, last 7 days +4,107) |
For the 7 weeks after launch, only single-digit installs a day. From Oct 5 to 11, one week's installs jumped 8 times over, and afterward it ran three to five hundred a day, peaking around seven hundred. Agent posts also began appearing around Oct 10. The real "opening" was not the launch date; it was the week the operator got around to it and started paying hosts high rates. Launch first, let the package age, then open the books when it's time. This is a common rhythm for these shell apps (inference).
Three things made it work:
- Price to win hosts. Rates were compared openly in the same group, and a few pesos more gave agents a reason to move their hosts over in batches. Free-recharge tasks and self-gifting let new hosts see income right away.
- Outsourced user acquisition to agents. The platform paid nothing for installs, only a revenue share of gifts to agents. Agents posted in Facebook groups and filmed YouTube Shorts tutorials like "Earn with ASAL STAR: Withdrawal Guide," "Use Code: PHTEN," and "Recharge Coins for Only 25 Pesos!" to bring in people with their own invite codes (channels of Philippine agents such as Dito Asidera and others).
- Only a few people need to pay. Voice-room revenue is concentrated in a few large spenders, and the bar to chart on the Philippine and UAE social grossing charts is low. A few hundred people spending money is enough to make the top 100.
Where the money came from: Top Grossing rank looks far better than install numbers
Nov 6, its spot on Google Play's Social chart: #53 Top Grossing in the Philippines (climbed steadily since late October from #68), #122 Top Grossing in the UAE, #177 Top Grossing in Saudi Arabia (down from #134). Its Top Free rank in the Philippines is only #156. Grossing ranks far ahead of free ranks means payments come from a small group of people, not from download volume.
Zero ratings, zero reviews. No store optimization and no push for reviews. It doesn't rely on organic store traffic.
Take this with a grain of salt: the app lets hosts gift themselves, and coin dealers resell in-game coins. Some of the grossing revenue is likely circulation between hosts and dealers rather than real players paying, and that can't be seen from outside. So "#53 grossing" doesn't mean that many people are actually paying (inference).
Who it's competing with: over thirty similar apps on the same chart
On Nov 6, the top 60 of the Philippines' Google Play Social grossing chart included over thirty voice and live-streaming apps.
| Product | Scale (Google Play, 11-06) | Its relationship to AsalStar |
|---|---|---|
| Poppo Live | 47.9M installs, +420k in 7 days, #3 Social Top Grossing in the Philippines | A mature large platform with video plus voice and a full guild system. The agents recruiting AsalStar hosts are also recruiting for Poppo. |
| Chamet, SUGO, Bigo Live | 78M to 850M installs | Top tier, heavy paid acquisition and a large host system |
| Tello | 1.22M installs, +72k in 7 days, #5 Social Top Grossing in the Philippines | Launched only in May this year, the most successful of the new launches over the same period. AsalStar is poaching hosts from its community. |
| Minemo, DesParty, Lakki | 45k to 590k installs | Voice rooms launched new between 7 and September this year, also using guaranteed pay for new hosts to attract people. Their volume is several times AsalStar's. |
| Nubee | 18k installs | The price comparison in recruitment posts (1$=75), another family of reskinned apps |
| AwanParty, Hala Party, Voku | 36k to 59k installs, Social Top Grossing 47–58 in the Philippines | Another family of reskinned apps using the same playbook |
| RiwaPlay, MasaParty | 14k and 8,336 installs | Sister apps built on the same template. AsalStar has the best grossing rank among them. |
This business doesn't run on software. A white-label voice-room system can be bought. The hard parts are a pool of hosts willing to go on mic, a set of agents, a withdrawal channel that converts dollars to pesos, and big spenders in the Gulf.
How many people have seen it
Almost nobody. No press coverage, zero mentions on X in 60 days, and the official TikTok account asalstar_2 has three videos with 90 to 130 views each. It only circulates in Facebook groups in the Philippines about "earning money as a host" and in agents' Shorts. Few people know about it, but that doesn't help outsiders: the category is already crowded, and the same supplier runs several reskinned apps.
If it were you
Bottom line: Don't copy this. It's a business built on subsidized supply and agent distribution, not a product business. What's worth noting is the playbook: hosts from the Philippines, money from the Gulf, and withdrawal rates as the cold-start lever.
Who it suits: Teams already running overseas voice-room apps that have a white-label system, a network of agents in the Philippines or South Asia, a withdrawal channel, and Middle Eastern paying users. For them, AsalStar shows that when a new app launches with withdrawal rates about 10% higher than competitors, installs can go from hundreds to thousands within two weeks and reach the top 60 of the Philippines grossing chart within a month.
Who it doesn't suit: Solo indie developers and small teams. You can build a voice-room app, but you can't get hosts, agents, withdrawal channels, and big Gulf spenders. Over thirty rivals share the same chart, backed by sizable companies. Compliance risk is also high: store terms say virtual items can't be withdrawn or transferred, yet off-platform they're openly sold for cash. Apps like this are often delisted by Google and linked accounts get caught in the sweep, which is why they keep reappearing under new names.
How to do it (if you're already in this business): Don't invest in the product. Copy an existing system. After launch, warm up the app. In launch week, post openly in the Philippine host groups on large platforms like Tello and Poppo, quoting a few pesos above the highest rate in the group. Give new hosts free-recharge tasks and guarantees, pay agents a share of revenue, and let them make Shorts and share invite codes themselves.
How to acquire users: Don't buy installs. Find people in Filipino Facebook host-recruitment groups, agents' YouTube Shorts, and Instagram. How they reach high-spending users in the Gulf wasn't confirmed this time. It could be paid acquisition or migration from sister apps. This is the hardest part for followers to replicate.
Timing: The lifespan of these apps depends on how long the subsidies last and when Google delists them, usually measured in months (inference). Watch whether it can hold a top 60 Philippine grossing rank before the end of 2026.
What would show this read is wrong: (1) If AsalStar enters the top 20 of the Philippines Social grossing chart before December, or installs pass 100k, then it's more than a subsidy play and has something that keeps users. It would be worth a second look. (2) Conversely, if in November a rival raises the withdrawal rate in recruitment posts by 82 and its grossing rank drops out of the top 100, that shows its growth depended entirely on price, and once a price is undercut, it's gone. That would confirm "don't follow it."
Data and sources: Install counts, grossing and free ranks come from Google Play (as of 11-06). Cumulative installs before October are estimates from AppstoreSpy. Recruitment posts come from the Facebook group "Tello Philippines" (10-21), Instagram (10-26, only search snippets seen), and a Facebook personal account (10-28). Agent videos come from YouTube. TikTok and X figures are as of 11-06. The operator's identity and whether 1$=82 is official pricing or an agent markup have not been verified.

One line
AsalStar is a voice-room and virtual-gift app aimed at the Gulf (Saudi Arabia / UAE) and the Philippines. It didn't climb on the strength of its product. It's another reskinned app from a white-label voice-room system. Almost no one used it for nearly two months after launch. In the first week of October it started paying for host supply: in Filipino Facebook "earn money as a host" groups it advertised higher withdrawal rates than competitors (1$=82 pesos, BL at 70, Nubee at 75), new-user "audio tasking" missions, self gifting, and revenue-share for agents. Hosts and agents brought in their contacts in waves, and a few big spenders in the Gulf sent gifts, which pushed installs past 12k and landed it at #53 Social Top Grossing in the Philippines.
1. Data
- Installs: cumulative 12,270 (11-06), +7 in the last 4,107 days (googleplay.app_profile). No ratings and no reviews (ratings and recent_reviews are empty).
- Curve (app_day_ext, AppstoreSpy estimates): 08-19 After launch it was dormant for 7 weeks, with cumulative 09-13 at 120 and 10-04 at 261, adding single digits per day. From 10-05 to 10-11 it jumped to 2,208 within one week, and then ran 300–700 per day (10-13 3,151 → 10-21 6,171 → 10-27 8,161 → 11-02 11,393 → 11-06 12,270). So the real "launch" was the first week of October, not the release date.
- Grossing chart (chart_rank, SOCIAL): Philippines Top Grossing 68 → 53 (climbing steadily from 10-29 to 11-06); UAE Top Grossing 114–126 (since 10-31); Saudi Arabia Top Grossing 134 → 177 (falling). Philippines Top Free 135–196, Vietnam Top Free 195–200. Grossing ranks are clearly better than free ranks, meaning revenue is concentrated in a few payers and doesn't depend on download volume.
- In-app purchases: $0.99–$4.99 per item (coins). The update notes only say "Fixed known issues and improved stability."
2. Competitors
Voice rooms are a long-running category for Chinese teams going global in the Middle East and Southeast Asia, and these apps nearly fill the Social grossing charts. 11-06 In the Philippines' top 60 Social grossing apps (chart_rank), over thirty are voice or live-streaming apps:
| Product | Scale (cumulative installs / new installs in the last 7 days, googleplay database) | Launched | How it differs from AsalStar |
|---|---|---|---|
| Poppo Live | 47.9M / +420k | 2022 | #3 Top Grossing in the Philippines, with video plus voice live streaming and a big guild system. In AsalStar's host recruitment posts, agents are also recruiting for Poppo. |
| Chamet, SUGO, Bigo Live | 78M–850M | 2016–2021 | Top tier, heavy paid acquisition and a large host system |
| Tello(com.qianwen.tellolive) | 1.22M / +72k | 2026-05 | The most successful new launch of the same period, #5 Social Top Grossing in the Philippines. AsalStar posted its recruitment in the "Tello Philippines" group, competing directly for Tello's hosts. |
| Minemo, DesParty, Lakki | 45k–590k | 2026-07 to 09 | Also a voice-room app launched this year, using guaranteed host pay to attract supply, with several times AsalStar's volume. |
| Nubee(com.chat.nubee) | 18k / +1,587 | 2026-07-13 | Posted in a recruitment thread as a direct price comparison (1$=75); belongs to another family of com.chat.* clone apps |
| Same-template sister apps: RiwaPlay (Kope Holdings, 07-2.31M) and MasaParty (HKMJ Build, 09-07,8,336) | 8k–14k | 2026-07 to 09 | Shared store copy ("Live voice rooms…"), the same <name>.com/privacy-policy.html privacy-page template, the same blank developer name and random Gmail; AsalStar has the best top-grossing rank of the bunch |
| Suspected other members of the same supplier: AwanParty, Hala Party, Voku | 36k–59k | 2026-06 to 07 | com.chat.* package names, same blank developer names, same Philippines social Top Grossing 47–58 |
At the big-company level, Facebook and Instagram themselves hold Philippines social Top Grossing 1–2, but none of them run the "voice room tipping + host cash-out" model. No open-source or web competitor is worth mentioning. The moat in this business is guilds and cash-out channels, not software.
3. Where users come from
- Philippines Facebook host-recruitment group (confirmed).
- "Tello Philippines" group, 10-21: "audio tasking open for host or agent. bl – 1$ = 70, nubee – 1$ = 75, asalstar – 1$ = 82" (link); the same post was reshared in other groups (link, link). "1$=82" means how many pesos a host gets out for every 1 dollars of gift earnings. AsalStar offers the highest rate, and it is buying hosts with price.
- Instagram 10-26: "ASALSTAR earnings apps HIRING HOST AND AGENT 1$ - 82 pesos, Minimum withdrawal 1$-5$-10$ … Self Gifting Available, NO NEED RECHARGE TO GET FREE TASK" (link, search snippet; the original account is no longer visible).
- Personal Facebook account: "need 20 host active sa asalstar … Agency code", and the same post was also recruiting for Poppo (link).
- Official Facebook page "AsalStar Philippines": "Philippines CS Region Asalstar Updates and Events", 24 followers (link). The platform has set up customer-service and operations territories in the Philippines.
- YouTube Shorts agent tutorials (confirmed): Philippine agents "willy asidera", "WilCOVERies PH" and "Dito Asidera" posted short videos titled "Earn with ASAL STAR: Withdrawal Guide", "Use Code: PHTEN", "AsalStar Agent Commission", "VIP Rewards & Task Guide" and similar (example), using invite codes to recruit people.
- South Asian coin dealers (weak evidence): an Instagram account "TOPPER AGENCY" and a Reel from 10-10 list "Asalstar voice Chat app" among "Coinseller / BD / agency" options, with prices quoted in rupees (search snippet). This suggests it is also spreading into coin-dealer and host networks in India and Pakistan.
- Paying users are in the Gulf: the name Asal (Arabic for "honey"), an Arabic version of the site at asalstar.com/ar/, a Turkish version of the terms, and Top Grossing charts only in the Philippines, UAE and Saudi Arabia. No evidence found for how it reached large Gulf spenders (paid acquisition? migration from sister apps?).
- Not found: TikTok has only one account, asalstar_2, with 3 videos at 90–132 views each (TikHub); X shows zero mentions in 60 days (x-radar); no media coverage; zero ratings, which suggests no ASO or review prompting. The ad library does not track it, so not finding ads doesn't mean none were run.
The timeline fits: installs spiked in 10-05–10-11, then agent and coin-dealer posts appeared in 10-10, and recruitment posts kept spreading in 10-21 and 10-26 while installs kept growing steadily.
4. Why it took off
- Buying hosts with price: the cash-out rate is 1$=82 pesos, 9%–17% higher than BL (70) and Nubee (75) in the same group. Add in no-recharge tasks and self-gifting, and Philippine agents have a reason to move their hosts over. Once the hosts arrive, the rooms fill up, and the Gulf paying users have someone to tip.
- Only a few people need to pay: voice-room revenue concentrates in a tiny number of big spenders. Philippine and UAE social Top Grossing charts have a low bar, so a few hundred paying users can reach the top 100. That is why "12k installs, zero ratings, Top Grossing #53" is not a contradiction. (Note: self-gifting and coin dealers reselling gold coins are allowed, so some "revenue" may be circulation between hosts and dealers. Top Grossing rank does not equal real player spending.)
- Outsourced customer acquisition: the platform pays no per-install fee. Instead it gives a share of gift revenue to agents and hosts, and agents recruit users for it in Facebook groups and on YouTube Shorts.
- Matrix reuse: the same client, backend and site template are repeatedly relaunched under new names (RiwaPlay in July, AsalStar in August, MasaParty in September). Each new package can catch a wave of hosts moving over because of the "new platform launch, high payouts" pitch. After release the apps sleep, and go live when operations schedules them.
5. Differentiation
There's no product differentiation: features, store copy, site and sister apps are nearly identical, and the gameplay is the same "voice room + gifts + guilds" as SUGO and Tello. The only real "difference" is higher cash-out rates for hosts. That is a distribution and subsidy play, not a product feature, but it is exactly why it grew. Also note that the store terms say "virtual items cannot be cashed out or transferred", while off-platform agents openly advertise cash-outs. That gap between the listing and reality is what gets these apps delisted by Google and forces them to relaunch under new names.
6. How many people have seen it
Almost nobody knows about it: no media, no X discussion, almost zero on TikTok, and no public revenue figures. It spreads only through Philippine Facebook groups about "earning money as a host" and agents' YouTube Shorts. The category itself is extremely crowded, with several clone apps from the same supplier, so there's little for outsiders to gain from "copying AsalStar".
7. Takeaways
- Voice rooms as "cross-region supply and demand": the Philippines and South Asia supply hosts, the Gulf supplies the money. When evaluating products like this, Top Grossing rank says more than install counts.
- The key variable in cold-starting a new platform is the host cash-out rate. Posting prices side by side in the same group and being a few pesos higher is enough to pull whole batches of agents over.
- Use agent revenue share instead of paid acquisition, with agents creating content and handing out invite codes on Facebook groups and YouTube Shorts.
- A white-label system + shell developer accounts + launch and sleep before going live. High compliance risk: off-platform cash-outs violate store policy, and linked accounts get banned together.
8. Uncertain
- Who runs it behind the scenes (speculated to be a Chinese white-label voice-room supplier for overseas markets), and whether the Cozy Bite account and another mini-game "Skiff Shoot" were bought as part of the same batch. Not verified.
- Whether "1$=82" is the official rate or an agent's own markup. Only agents' posts have been seen.
- Where the Gulf paying users come from and whether paid acquisition was involved. No evidence found.
- How much of the top-grossing revenue is self-gifting or coin-dealer circulation. Cannot be quantified.
- The direct trigger for 10-05 take-off that week (a platform promotion? a large guild moving over en masse?). Unverified.
