# 240k installs, #10 on the Mexico chart: a children's drawing app from a Vietnamese utility-app factory

**What it is** A drawing app for kids: step-by-step guided drawing lessons, coloring templates, and turning photos into line art to color. It makes money from ads and in-app purchases.

**Why it took off** Not word of mouth: the same company already had two AR drawing apps at 4M-level installs. Creative and ad buying were ready to go. In October they bought ads on Meta in several waves, then targeted Mexico, a low-barrier category chart, to break into the top ten.

**C** **How you could follow it** Don't copy this app itself. If you already have a working utility app and ad-buying ability, copy its playbook: ship new apps in adjacent themes on the same codebase, localize store pages into Spanish or Portuguese, and use small budgets to go after category charts in Latin America and Southeast Asia.

C grade: kids' drawing and coloring is crowded with 100M+ install veterans and factories in Vietnam and India. Artoon relies on the company's existing product lines and ad-buying team, which followers can't match. What's worth learning is the low-barrier chart plus multi-app testing approach. Almost nobody knows about it

Data (updated daily) · first launch 2026-08-19 · 11-07 installs 243,950

Android · Total installs worldwide

Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.

Artoon - Learn to draw & color launched in Aug 19. For its first month and a half, almost nobody installed it. Then a few concentrated paid campaigns in October pushed it to 244K installs and took it to #10 on the Mexico Google Play Art & Design free chart. It isn't a lucky hit from some small team. It's a tool-app factory in Da Nang, Vietnam, taking a drawing product line it already had working, changing the theme and the developer account, and launching another one. What's worth looking at isn't this app. It's the company's bet-placing approach, and why it picked Mexico's chart.

### One video with 34k views and 27 likes

2026 Oct 3, Saturday, 1:56 pm, a new Facebook page called "Artoon - Learn to draw & color" posted a 29-second vertical video with the caption:

> Let little imaginations run wild! A fun coloring app made for kids to explore colors, create cute pictures, and enjoy screen time in a creative way.

(Let your little imagination run wild! A coloring app for kids that makes screen time creative.)

By Nov 6 the video had 34k views and 27 likes. A brand-new page with engagement over a thousand times smaller than views most likely means the video was paid to be pushed, not shared organically (inference). The timing matches too: between Oct 2 and 4 the app's cumulative installs jumped from about 5,000 to about 26k (AppstoreSpy estimate).

Two weeks later, on Oct 17, a user named Dayla Maria left a Spanish review on the Mexico store page, roughly: "I couldn't draw before, now my colors have gotten a bit better… even my family is playing it, they grab my phone to use it." It got 5 "helpful" votes and is the top review on the page.

### What it is

A drawing app for parents and kids, with three features packed into one:

- **Step-by-step drawing lessons** : follow on-screen guides to draw animals, dinosaurs and cars one stroke at a time. Finish a lesson to unlock the next.

- **Coloring templates** : hundreds of coloring pages with crayons, glitter pens and airbrushes.

- **AI photo-to-line-art** : pick a photo from your camera roll (a person, pet or landscape), choose a line-art style, and generate an outline you can color or print.

The store page highlights "big buttons, little text, no distractions." The Mexico store page was fully translated into Spanish (titles kept in English). Money comes from two sources: ads plus in-app purchases, each priced $4.99–$49.99 (Google Play, 11-06). It has not charted in any country's top grossing list, so revenue is not visible from outside. It most likely relies mainly on ads (inference).

Taken one at a time, each of these three features has far bigger players: step-by-step drawing has ArtWorkout (23.7M installs) and Drawing Desk (25.9M); kids' coloring has Orange Studios' Coloring & Learn (269M) and RV AppStudios (260M combined); photo-to-line-art is offered by Picsart and plenty of web tools. Artoon's product has no single feature that others don't already have.

### How it grew

| Timeline | What happened |
|---|---|
| 8-19 to 9-29 | Over six weeks since launch, about 3,500 cumulative |
| 10-02 to 10-04 | In three days, from about 5,000 to about 26k |
| 10-05 to 10-07 | Dozens to a few hundred per day |
| 10-08 | About +26k in one day |
| 10-11 to 10-13 | About +46k in three days |
| 10-21 to 10-22 | About +29k in two days |
| 10-29 to 11-06 | 191k → 244k, +53k over 7 days |

(October figures are AppstoreSpy estimates; the last row is the public install count on Google Play)

A wave, a few days off, then another wave, with almost nothing in between. Organic traffic and featuring don't look like this. It looks like paid acquisition tested in batches (inference). During this period the version went from 7 to 8 (10-27, 11-03), and the app kept changing.

Behind 240k installs, the Mexico store has only 119 ratings (4.4 stars), and the US tablet listing has only 18 reviews (Google Play, 11-06). Lots of installs, very few ratings. One explanation is that the real users are kids, who don't rate apps. Another is that many of the bought installs were never opened after download. From the outside, there's no way to tell which.

### Why Mexico is #10 and not #10 in the US

Nov 6, Artoon hit the Art & Design free chart in 18 countries: #10 in Mexico, #24 in Argentina, #32 in Vietnam, #40 in Spain, #49 in Turkey, #51 in Indonesia, #56 in Brazil and the Philippines… while the US only reached #82.

Look at the bar on Mexico's chart and it's clear. Artmate: Drawing Together, ranked #2 the same day (also a Vietnamese factory app, by Braly), has 19.5M lifetime installs and gained 7k in 640 days. Artoon gained only 7k in 53 days and still made #10. The category charts in Latin America and Southeast Asia rank on recent velocity, so the bar is low: a small paid push can break into the top ten, and then you pick up some organic traffic on top. Translating the store page into Spanish is aimed squarely at those charts.

### Who's behind it

Package prefix com.asianmobile, support email feedback@asianmobile.ltd, developer site app.bgstudio.info. It sits under the developer account "Sanya.Studio". The store page's "About the developer" lists a Hong Kong-registered TN Global Solution Limited with a Vietnamese phone number, +84. Other apps from the same group list ASIAN MOBILE SOFTWARE COMPANY LIMITED, at 31 Tran Phu Street, Da Nang, Vietnam.

Matching by package name and email, this company has at least 23 apps on Google Play, spread across seven or more developer accounts including BG.Studio, TextSoft.Studio, Kayle AI Solution, TBS Solution, TNGlobalSolution.Ltd, Sanya.Studio and Aseanlab.Studio, roughly 100M installs in total. The top ones are an emoji keyboard (24.4M), an IPTV player (13.8M), a home launcher (11.3M) and a fitness app (10.5M). They're also hiring UA (user acquisition) interns in Da Nang (Facebook recruiting groups, topdev.vn).

On the drawing front, they already had two AR tracing apps: SketchArt: AR Trace & Draw (2024-54.5M) and Draw Anime: AR Sketch (2025-54M). Artoon is the same line moved one step toward "kids learn to draw + coloring". Around the same time (8-25) they also launched a paper-folding app using the same step-by-step tutorial template, Origami Art, now at 31k installs.

So the real story is this: a factory that already has a buying team, creatives, ad monetization, and 4M-scale similar products opened a new package for a low cost and tested it on a low-bar chart. If it works, they add budget. If not, they switch to the next theme.

### Who it's competing with

| Competitors | Scale | How it differs from Artoon |
|---|---|---|
| Artmate: Drawing Together(Braly) | 19.5M, 7 days +640k | Also a Vietnamese factory, multiplayer drawing plus step-by-step lessons, scaling fast |
| ArtWorkout | 23.7M installs, 470k ratings | 3,500+ lessons, all ages |
| Drawing Desk | 25.9M | Long-running drawing app, subscription, on the US Top Grossing chart |
| RV AppStudios kids drawing / coloring | 77.2M, 183M | Top kids coloring app, filed under Games - Educational |
| Toy Tap kids coloring series | 19M–40M each | Also a factory that churns out kids coloring packs |
| Sketch Steps: AI Loomis Draw | 460k (8-14 live) | Same-period launch, AI turns portrait photos into step-by-step tutorials, skews adult |

(Google Play installs, 11-06)

This niche is already saturated by factories from Vietnam and India. Artoon's 240k doesn't register against them.

### If it were you

**Verdict** : Don't chase this app itself. What's worth copying is the playbook behind it: "factory opens packages + low-bar charts." Kids drawing and coloring is a red ocean, with the top spots held by decade-old apps with hundreds of millions of installs and Vietnamese factories spending heavily.

**Who it fits** : A small team that already has one or two working utility apps, its own paid acquisition capability, and the discipline to track cost per install and ad payback, and that wants to test several packages in adjacent themes.

**Who it doesn't fit** : An indie dev trying to build from zero on a single kids drawing app. Without ad budget or creative assets, you won't get organic traffic in this category, and you can't build anything the incumbents don't already have. Kids apps on Google Play also face Families policy and ad restrictions, with stricter review that trips up newcomers.

**How to execute** : If you already have a proven category, do what they do and shift one step sideways: same codebase, creatives and monetization, new theme (learn to draw → origami, coloring → stickers), each new package under its own developer account. Translate the store page into Spanish, Portuguese and Indonesian, and put the category's big keywords in the title.

**How to acquire users** : Short-video paid acquisition on Meta, with creatives that are instantly legible, like "kid coloring" or "photo to line art in one tap." Start with countries where the category charts are easy to crack (Mexico, Argentina, Vietnam), push small budgets in waves to reach the top ten, then see how much organic traffic the chart placement brings before scaling spend.

**Timing** : This playbook has no window; it's been running continuously. But kids coloring peaks over year-end holidays and summer break, so if you want to test it, do it before December.

**Signs you've misread this** : ① If Artoon gains more than 1M installs within a month, or charts in any country's Top Grossing, the three-in-one combo has real retention and payments, and it's more worth doing than it looks; ② If the Mexico review count stays at a hundred or two and installs stop growing, the factory has stopped paying for it and the theme wasn't actually tested there; ③ If the same company launches more kids drawing packages, it's made money on this line.

### Data and sources

- Installs and chart positions: Google Play public data (2026-10-29 to 11-06). October's daily curve is an AppstoreSpy estimate, so single-day numbers aren't reliable.

- Store pages: Google Play US and Mexico listings (11-06), including review counts, review text, developer info and in-app purchase prices.

- Facebook Reel: Artoon's official page, posted 2026-10-03, seen by 11-06, 34k views / 27 likes.

- Company info: store pages of sibling apps, the Sanya.Studio developer page, app.bgstudio.info, Da Nang IT recruiting groups on Facebook, and job posts on topdev.vn.

- Searches for "Artoon app" on TikTok and X turned up nothing relevant (11-06); no media coverage found.

- Actual channels and spend aren't visible from outside; "paid acquisition" and "ad-monetization-led" are inferences. No iOS version found.

Where users come from

- Inferred **Meta (Facebook/Instagram) paid acquisition** : the official FB page's Reel posted 10-03 got 34k views but only 27 interactions, and installs jumped from 10-02K to 10-04K over 5 to 26. Our Meta, Google and TikTok ad libraries don't track this one.

- Inference **Pulsed paid-acquisition tests** : AppstoreSpy's estimated curve: a single day of +26k (10-08), then back to tens; between the spikes it's nearly flat, which doesn't look like organic traffic.

- **Verified** **in-house UA team** : Asian Mobile 2026-08 is hiring UA Marketing interns in Da Nang (FB recruiting groups, topdev)

- **Confirmed** **Store search / ASO** : The title stuffs two big keywords, "Learn to draw" and "color", and the description repeats keywords.

- **Confirmed** **Exposure on low-bar category charts** : 7 days and 53k installs got it to #10 on Mexico's Art & Design free chart, while it only reached #82 in the US.

- Inference **TikTok / X organic content** : TikHub and x-radar turned up nothing relevant.

## Why Artoon - Learn to draw & color (com.asianmobile.learntodraw) got traction

### Bottom line

It's not an indie hit that grew on its own. The Da Nang utility-app factory **Asian Mobile Software** (ASIAN MOBILE SOFTWARE COMPANY LIMITED) published this kids drawing and coloring package under its sock-puppet developer account "Sanya.Studio." The approach: take what the company already proved in drawing (SketchArt AR and Draw Anime AR, about 8.5M installs combined), swap the theme, and rebuild it as "kids step-by-step drawing + coloring + AI photo-to-line-art." The volume was **bought in waves** through channels like Meta. Reaching #10 on Mexico's Art & Design free chart came from low-bar category charts in Latin America and Southeast Asia. At 244k installs it's small for this category, and its revenue isn't visible.

### 1. Data (googleplay library, 2026-10-29 to 11-06)

- Launched 2026-08-19. Lifetime installs 10-29, and 191,252,11-06 days later 243,950,7 with 52,698 new installs (about 7.5K/day). Ratings count stayed empty the whole time, and it never charted on any country's Top Grossing.

- Daily gains were uneven: +20,759 (10-31), 0, 0, +15,591 (11-03), +6,366, 0, +9,982. The 0 marks days when the listing didn't change, so the gains were rolled into the next day.

- Curve since launch (app_day_ext, AppstoreSpy estimate):
    - September had almost no volume: 9-29 cumulative 3,510.
    - 10-02 to 10-04 it jumped from 5,046 to 26,398 in three days.
    - 10-05 to 10-07 it only added a few dozen to 200-odd a day.
    - 10-08 single-day +25,953.
    - 10-11 to 10-13 it added about 46k.
    - 10-21 to 10-22 it added about 29k.
    - After that it settled at around 5–10K a day.

The days between spikes were close to zero. This on-off shape is paid acquisition testing, not organic traffic or featuring.

- Version 7(10-27) → version 8(11-03), iterated the whole time. Ad-supported (ad_supported=True), in-app purchases $4.99–$49.99.

- Charts (Art & Design Top Free, 11-06): mx 10, ar 24, vn 32, es 40, tr 49, id 51, ph/br 56, th 77, us 82, my 85, 18 stores in total. The best ranks cluster in Latin America, Southeast Asia and Spain.

- The bar on the Mexico chart: on the same day, #2 Artmate (Braly JSC) had 19.5M installs and +7k over 640 days; Artoon added only 7k over 53 days and still ranked #10. Category charts rank by growth rate, so the entry bar is very low.

### 2. Who built it

- Package prefix com.asianmobile, feedback email feedback@asianmobile.ltd, developer site app.bgstudio.info (BG.Studio). The Play page's "About the developer" lists ASIAN MOBILE SOFTWARE COMPANY LIMITED, address 31 Tran Phu, Da Nang, Vietnam (see the Play pages of sibling apps like SketchArt).

- In the googleplay database, the same company (matched by package prefix and email domain) has 23 apps across at least 7 developer accounts: BG.Studio, TextSoft.Studio, Kayle AI Solution, TBS Solution, TNGlobalSolution.Ltd, Sanya.Studio, Aseanlab.Studio. Combined, roughly 100M installs. The top ones:
    - Emoji Font Keyboard: 24.4M
    - IPTV Player: 13.8M
    - Launcher OS: 11.3M
    - Gym Workout: 10.5M

- Drawing sibling apps: SketchArt: AR Trace & Draw (2024-54.5M), Draw Anime: AR Sketch (2025-54M, art & design #31 in vn). In the same period, **Origami Art: Easy Learn & Play** (Aseanlab.Studio, 2026-08-2.53M installs) launched with the same playbook, also a "step-by-step tutorial" theme.

- Sanya.Studio also has Emoji Battery, Themio, Launcher Phone, Translate Photo, Blend Photo Editor and more on Play (Play developer page). It's a classic "tool factory + many developer accounts" play.

- 公司 2026-08 在岘港招 UA Marketing 实习生(Facebook 招聘群帖、topdev.vn),说明有自己的买量团队。

### III. Competitors

This category is extremely crowded, and Artoon's scale doesn't place it near the top:

- **Kids' coloring (Games category)** : Coloring & Learn (Orange Studios, 2016B), RV AppStudios' Coloring Games (183M) and Drawing Games: Draw & Color (77.2M), Toy Tap's Coloring and Drawing For Kids series (2,000–40M each), BabyBus, Disney Coloring World and others.

- **Step-by-step drawing lessons** :
    - ArtWorkout (2024-1.22B, 470k ratings): 3,500+ lessons, with a multiplayer mode.
    - Drawing Desk (201B).
    - Artmate: Drawing Together (Braly JSC, another Vietnamese factory, 19.5M, +640k over 7 days): pitched as drawing together with multiplayer plus step-by-step lessons.
    - Art Mate: How to Draw Together (lenoox, 2026-09-25.2M): copying Artmate.
    - Sketch Steps: AI Loomis Draw (2026-08-14.5M).

- **AR tracing** : Braly's AR Drawing Sketch (64.8M) and Draw Anime (61M), plus a long list from LOGICLABS, trimt, Veewa Labs and others, mostly built by Vietnamese and Indian factories.

- **Big players and tools** : ibis Paint X (330M), Sketchbook (190M), Picsart Color (84.5M). "Turn a photo into line art, then color it" also shows up in Picsart and a range of AI coloring-page generators.

### 4. Growth tactics

- **Meta (Facebook/Instagram) promotion** : there's a Facebook page "Artoon - Learn to draw & color" (id 61593089182095). 2026-10-03 posted a Reel, "Let little imaginations run wild! A fun coloring app made for kids," which has 34k views and only 27 interactions. A new page getting this ratio of views to engagement usually means it was promoted; the posting time also lines up with the first install spike from 10-02 to 10-04. Our Meta, Google and TikTok ad libraries don't track this company (it isn't on those lists), so how much was spent and in which countries is unverified.

- **Store search / ASO** : the title packs in both "Learn to draw" and "color," the short description reads "coloring, shape drawing, pattern art, easy tutorials," and the long description repeats keywords. It ranks best in Spanish-speaking markets, and it may have localized store pages (unverified).

- **Category chart exposure** : the Art & Design Top Free bar in Latin America and Southeast Asia is low. A paid push can get you into the top few dozen, and after charting you pick up a bit of organic traffic.

- **Organic content and creators** : searches for "Artoon app" and "Artoon learn to draw" on TikTok turn up no relevant videos (TikHub, 11-06). x-radar has no posts mentioning it in the last 90 days. No press coverage found.

### 5. Why it works

1. **Factory replication** : the same company already has two AR drawing apps with 400+ million installs each, so creative, paid acquisition and monetization (ads + IAP) are ready to reuse. Artoon swaps in the "kids + step-by-step + coloring" theme within the same category, which keeps cold-start costs low.

2. **Paid acquisition spikes kicked in** : per the AppstoreSpy curve, September was nearly zero, then waves of jumps began around 10-02, with near-zero between them. This matches the timing of the FB Reel that was promoted, 10-03.

3. **Chose a low-bar chart** : it only reached #82 in the US store; #10 came in Mexico, where 7k installs in 50 days was enough.

4. **AI selling point layered on top** : "AI Coloring Generator" can turn a photo into line art and then color it, giving parents a new reason to tap. But every player is doing this feature, so it isn't a moat.

### VI. Differentiation

It puts three things into one app, "step-by-step drawing," "kids' coloring" and "photo to line art," aimed at parents installing for their kids, with big buttons, little text and an emphasis on safety. But each of those three has bigger players on its own: ArtWorkout and Artmate for drawing lessons, RV AppStudios and Toy Tap for coloring, Picsart for AI line art. So the differentiation is shallow, and it is **not** why it took off. What made it take off is the company's factory capability and paid acquisition. With no rating data and no Top Grossing placement, retention and payment remain unproven.

### 7. How many people know about it

Hardly anyone yet. Revenue isn't public; there's no press, X or TikTok discussion; the only hits are auto-generated pages on apkpure, appbrain, similarweb and appfigures. But the category is already packed with Vietnamese and Indian factories, and Braly's Artmate is scaling up hard.

### 8. What to borrow

- Prove it in one category first (AR tracing), then reuse the same creative, paid acquisition and monetization to copy new packages into adjacent audiences (kids drawing, origami).

- Put each new package under a different developer account to spread out ban risk and make testing easier.

- Find a storefront with a low category-chart bar (Latin America, Southeast Asia) and use a small budget to break into the top ten for exposure.

- "Photo → AI line art → coloring" can serve as a hook for parent-facing ad creative.

### 9. What I'm still unsure about

- Actual channels and spend: this company isn't tracked in our ad libraries.

- Why it has 240k installs but still no ratings: kids rarely rate apps, or it could be a data-scraping issue.

- Real IAP conversion and revenue: it has never charted in Top Grossing, so monetization is most likely mainly ads.

- Whether there's an iOS version: not found on the App Store by name, and the iTunes search API returned an error this time, so unverified.

- The AppstoreSpy curve is an averaged estimate; single-day numbers shouldn't be taken at face value.
