30 volunteer placements, rehearsed on your phone first: how a Turkish nursing exam applicant placement simulator hit the overall chart in two weeks
What it is A volunteer placement simulator for Turkish health-sector civil service applicants. You fill in your preferences and see which hospital you'd likely be assigned among all registered peers; viewing the result costs money.
Why it took off The KPSS results and the Ministry of Health's tens-of-thousands-strong hiring announcement landed in the same few weeks, and the app launched right in that window. A 259k-follower healthcare job-info account put "Data source: Atanalım" in its post to drive traffic, and simulations get more accurate the more people use them, so users pull in classmates themselves.
BHow you could follow Don't fight over the Turkish healthcare niche. Look for another exam that is scored and assigned on a unified basis, where only web bots exist or nobody has built an app. Tie up with an info account in that community, launch a crowdsourced simulation app two weeks before results, collect small one-time fees, then sell manual review of preference lists on top.

Atanalım is an app from a Turkish placement consulting company that serves only one group: nurses, midwives and health technicians who have taken the KPSS (civil service exam) and are waiting for the Ministry of Health to assign their posts. You upload your score report, fill in 30 preferences, and it ranks you against all same-major applicants registered in the app to estimate which hospital you'll likely get. The idea is nothing new in Turkey: several web versions already existed, and unions offered it for free. It reached the overall chart thanks to three things: launching in the weeks results came out, backing from a large healthcare-hiring info account driving traffic, and users pulling in classmates themselves. The method can be moved elsewhere, but don't go after the Turkish niche.
The night the scores came out
In 2026 Oct 30, ÖSYM published the KPSS associate-degree (ön lisans) results. Most nursing and health-technician applicants sit at this level. That same day, someone left a five-star review on Atanalım in the App Store titled "Thanks to Ahmet Esmer and his team". Ahmet Esmer is well known in the Turkish healthcare applicant community: 108k followers on X, a Telegram group of 23.8k members, and a bio that reads "Chair of the Volunteer Expert Committee".
Early the next morning, between 04:38 and 05:32 Beijing time, under an hour brought 12 five-star reviews to Google Play: "Thanks to the teachers who built this app", "God bless you". That uniformity suggests someone in the community called for it. The same day, the iOS version hit #1 overall free in Turkey (per AppInsider).
Someone also gave a one-star review that day:
"Deleted it right after downloading. I just wanted to use an app, why should I hand my diploma and KPSS score report over to you?" (App Store Turkey, 10-31)
These two reviews, one glowing and one hostile, pretty much tell the whole business story.
How much it grew
- App Store: listed 10-22. Climbed to #5 overall free in Turkey and #2 in Education on 11-03; 11-06 the store page shows 714 ratings, averaging 4.6. AppInsider estimates 10k+ daily downloads from 11-05.
- Google Play: listed 10-23. Installs were 11-01 (50,11-06 to 24,179). Peaked at #11-05 overall free 41, and #4 to #6 in Education free (Google Play charts, 11-01 to 11-06).
- People are paying. On Play's Education Top Grossing chart it went from #11-01 to #11-06 over the stretch, climbing from #57 to #13, so this is real money.
Combined, installs over the first two weeks are roughly in the 100k range (estimate). For a niche of a few hundred thousand exam candidates, that's very high penetration.
What it sells
It has four features: placement simulation, past placement score cutoffs, institution lookup (it even links to rental listings near the hospitals), and profession-based chat rooms for peers. Registration and past data are free, but seeing "where I'll land" costs money (atanalim.com pricing page, 11-06):
| Tier | Pricing | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| 3 results | 99 TL (about $2.4) | 3 months, view simulation results for 3 different preference lists |
| Premium | 499 TL (about $12) | 3 months of unlimited simulations, plus institution and crowding maps for 81 provinces |
| Expert review of your preference list | 2,500 TL (about $60), pre-sale price; the page says "weekly plan price 5,000 TL" | A consultant reviews your 30 preferences one by one and gives written feedback; the page shows "218 spots left" |
All three tiers are one-time payments with no auto-renewal, timed to cover one placement season. The last tier shows what the business is really about. The company is literally called Anadolu Tercih Danışmanlık (Anatolia Preference Consulting). The 99 TL and 499 TL tiers are the entry point; the real product they want to sell is one-on-one consulting (inferred).
Most of the complaints also target this:
"Everything costs money except the headline." (App Store, 10-30) "Don't waste 500 TL, past cutoffs are everywhere on Google. And you can't even delete your account." (App Store, 11-02) "I'd have bought it at 100 to 200 TL, but 500 TL is too expensive." (App Store, 11-02)
Some people are on the other side: "Two coffees' worth and you get all this, plus someone verifies the data. Great value." (App Store, 11-02)
Why now
The exam calendar is packing all the anxiety into a few weeks. KPSS undergraduate scores come out 10-07, associate-degree scores 10-30, and department rankings for undergraduates 11-04. The Ministry of Health has posted official notice of 26.7k contract medical and nursing positions, and 11-03 the Minister has also said they'll hire 38k non-doctor staff. Download curves line up with these dates: 10-31 hit #1,11-02 on iOS, then jumped again on 11-03 and 11-06. The biggest catch is that preference filing hasn't started yet (media 11-02 reported it, still waiting on ÖSYM to publish the guide), so the real peak should land in the late November to December filing window.
Healthcare hiring news accounts drive installs. The Instagram account @saglikcamiasibilgilendirme ("Health Community Information," 259k followers) has posted Health Ministry hiring news since 11-03, with captions signed "Source: Atanalım preference guide app." A 11-04 Reel said "over 40k healthcare candidates waiting for placement are already using Atanalım" (their own claim). Another account, @furkanaltuksb, posts program score analysis ending with "Data from the Atanalım app; download for detailed analysis." There's even a five-star Play review that consists of just "Sağlık Camiası Bilgilendirme WhatsApp," suggesting the WhatsApp channel is also driving installs. I don't know whether these accounts are in-house or paid. But during the 2025 web promotion, the Facebook "Tercih Hocam" promo video was clearly tagged #Reklam (advertisement).
Users recruit other users. The simulation only uses data from other candidates in the same program inside the app, so the more people there are, the more accurate the results. Reviews say it plainly: "The more users, the more trustworthy the data, so I recommend it to everyone I meet" and "Everyone should download it and fill in their info." The chat rooms also keep people around. One user wrote, "I couldn't find a group for my program anywhere, and here at last there is one."
It's not a newcomer. atanalim.com was registered 2025-09. In the 2025 Health Ministry hiring round, 15,247 people already used its web-based "KPSS Preference Simulation Bot" to pick their placements. The site also hosts a large set of province- and program-level score pages that anyone can view without logging in, and they've been pulling search traffic the whole time. The App is the previous season's data, content, and channels moved onto the phone and run again.
Who it's competing with
| Product | Form | Versus Atanalım |
|---|---|---|
| memurlar.net KPSS preference bot | Website, live since 2020 years ago | Turkey's largest civil-service portal; covers every placement round and every position, free; no app, no community |
| Ztakip Health Ministry preference bot | Web | Also only does the Health Ministry, simulates using member data, claims 2025 years and 43k members; web only |
| Sağlık-Sen SAHA | Web, union-run | Run by the largest health union, free, carries institutional credibility; no payments or community |
| Tıkla Atan | Web, 2026 years | Almost the same pitch: verify your transcript by upload, simulate 30 preferences against real rivals; I didn't see any big accounts driving traffic for it |
| Kariyer.net KPSS preference engine | A feature inside a job site | Recommends based only on past cutoffs, no simulation |
| Sağlık Personeli: Tercih Robotu | Android | Same idea, 73 installs |
The specialist exams for doctors and dentists (TUS / DUS) have had preference simulation for years. The review line "Doctors have had this for years, now finally everyone taking KPSS gets it" refers to exactly this.
What it actually wins on
It's not the idea. "Simulate placements using participant data" is what half the products in the table above already do. The gap comes down to:
- It's the only one with real installs in the store. Searching kpss / tercih / atama on Google Play, the other app doing healthcare preference simulation has only 73 installs. Candidates searching on their phones only find this one.
- The people driving traffic are where candidates scroll every day. Hiring-news accounts write "Data source: Atanalım" into their posts, which is far more credible than a hard ad.
- Verification does double duty. The biggest flaw of web bots is people entering fake scores. Requiring a diploma and transcript upload blocks fake accounts, and it becomes a selling point in itself: "Fake accounts get removed, so it's trustworthy" (App Store, 11-01). The cost: some people see the document requirement and delete the app right away.
- Collect a small payment at peak anxiety. Registration is free, and you can fill in all 30 preferences for free too. The paywall only appears when you tap "see results."
If it were you
B: worth trying, but not in Turkish healthcare. The data, channels, and reputation in that niche already belong to Atanalım, which also has last season's web version behind it, and there are plenty of free web competitors. What's worth taking away is the playbook: for any exam with centralized placement, where rank depends on score and preference order, build a simulator fed by crowdsourced data, aimed at the few weeks between results and filing. The weaknesses are obvious too: it peaks for only a month or two a year, and the traffic comes from info accounts within the community, so if you have no presence there, it won't take off.
Who it suits: a team of 1 to 2, with at least one person from within a given exam community, or who can work with that community's info accounts and group admins; someone who understands the local placement rules and can get the ranking logic right.
Who it doesn't suit: pure coders with no contacts in the candidate community; anyone planning an annual subscription (downloads will fall off a cliff after filing season); anyone who can't stomach one-star reviews about "everything costs money" and undeletable accounts.
How to do it:
- Start by picking the niche. The conditions: centralized national placement, ranking by score plus preference order, tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of candidates, and only web bots online or nothing at all. Look at Turkish positions Atanalım doesn't cover yet; reviews already ask "Why no PDR (school psychological counselor)?" and "Why no vocational-high-school track?" You could also look abroad for comparable centralized civil-service, healthcare, or teacher placements. Mature markets like South Korea's college-entrance "mock application" tools already have big players, so skip those. You want small, concentrated niches.
- Build the product on the same structure: ID verification → enter preferences → free past data → paid simulation results. Add profession-based chat rooms, since they're what keeps people.
- Copy the three-tier pricing, all one-time: a few dollars for a few results, around ten dollars for a full filing season, with a higher tier for human review of preference lists.
How to acquire users: Skip paid ads. Find the accounts in that community that post hiring and score news, and ask them to write "Data source: your app" into their posts. A data partnership is best if you can get one. Give users a reason to bring classmates in the app: "Your program has 87 participants now; results are accurate above 300" (a suggested approach, not something Atanalım's page says). On results night, push for a coordinated round of reviews in groups to get the store rating up early.
When to launch: Be live at least two weeks before results for the exam you're targeting. Once results are out, you're waiting for the next season. The Turkish healthcare filing window is expected at the end of November into December. Use it as a benchmark: check whether Atanalım climbs again during its filing window, to tell whether this model peaks on results days or during filing week.
Signs you've misread it: ① A month after the Health Ministry filing window, Atanalım drops out of the top 100 on iOS Education and out of the top 100 on Play's Education Top Grossing, meaning the business is one season long, earning only in one or two months a year; ② the exam community you're targeting already has big portals or unions offering free simulations and pulling candidates into their own groups; ③ ID verification drags signup conversion so low that you never reach enough users for the simulation to be accurate, so users never recruit others and the loop never turns.

- Verified Community calls to action drove batched five-star reviews: On Play, about 10-31 five-star reviews landed within roughly 1 hours of 12 (e.g. "hocam, may God be pleased with you"); iOS 11-02 and 11-04 also got batches of five-star short reviews.

One line
A "health ministry placement preference simulator" for Turkish healthcare KPSS candidates (nurses, midwives, various health technicians). Candidates upload their score report and diploma, enter their 30 preferences, and the system runs all candidates in the same field registered on Atanalım through the ÖSYM rules to show where they'd likely land. It also offers historical placement cutoffs, facility lookup (with rental links nearby), and per-field peer chat rooms. Basic features are free; seeing simulation results costs money: Premium 499 TL / 3 months (one-time payment, no auto-renew), or 99 TL for 3 result views (atanalim.com/payment/premium, /payment/one-time).
Bottom line: It works because of timing plus distribution, not because the idea is new. 2026 KPSS results came out in two batches (undergrad 10-07, associate degree 10-30), and Turkey's Ministry of Health is announcing a non-doctor hiring round of 26.7K to 38K positions. Atanalım launched its app just ahead of 10-22/23, catching the weeks when hundreds of thousands of health-care exam candidates were most anxious. Distribution came from a few big Instagram/WhatsApp accounts in Turkey's health-care job-info circles (@saglikcamiasibilgilendirme alone has 259K followers), and those accounts put "Atanalım data" straight into their posts. Simulation accuracy depends on how many people in the same major take part, so every user is pulling classmates in. Put together, these pushed it to the top of Turkey's overall chart.
1. Data
Google Play (googleplay library):
| Date | Installs | Education Free chart TR | Overall Free chart TR | Education Top Grossing TR |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 11-01 | 50 | 9 | 180 | 57 |
| 11-02 | 7,453 | 7 | 123 | 41 |
| 11-03 | 10,744 | 6 | 107 | 32 |
| 11-04 | 10,744 | 6 | 52 | 17 |
| 11-05 | 10,744 | 4 | 41 | 15 |
| 11-06 | 24,179 | 5 | 56 | 13 |
Play install counts are bucketed and lag, so the 11-04/05 figure shows 0 growth that isn't real. Chart rank is a better read on actual downloads. The library records the first-release date as 2026-10-12 (there was already a review that day, possibly beta); the data card says 10-23; AppInsider logged the Play launch as 10-23.
iOS (appstore library, id 6822465999): launched 2026-10-22. 11-01 has 6 ratings and #82 on the overall free chart; 11-03 is #5 overall free, #2 in Education, rated 173; 11-06 is rated 453 (7 days, +447), #91 overall and #4 in Education. On the day 11-06, the store page showed 714 ratings averaging 4.6. Third-party AppInsider logged: on iOS, 10-31 once reached #1 overall free in Turkey; from 11-05 onward "10K+ daily downloads" (their estimate); on Play, 11-05 peaked at #41 overall (our library) / #50 (AppInsider). So iOS is bigger than Android. Combined, two-week downloads are on the order of 100K (estimated, unverified).
Revenue: Play's Education Top Grossing TR rose from #57 (11-01) to #13 (11-06), so payments are really happening. Many iOS one-star reviews focus on "everything costs 500 TL," which also suggests the paywall is hard.
2. Why it took off
- Exam calendar plus ministry hiring announcements, demand bursting at once
- 2026 KPSS undergraduate results were released 10-07; associate-degree (ön lisans, which most nursing and health-technician candidates take) results came out 10-30 (osym.gov.tr).
- The Health Ministry's decision to hire 26,673 contract healthcare positions for 2026 was published in the Official Gazette (Resmî Gazete) (Sabah, Hürriyet, etc., 2026-09 to October). 11-03 Health Minister Memişoğlu publicly said they would recruit 38k non-doctor staff (Ahmet Esmer's X account relayed it on 11-03).
- 11-04 undergraduate department rankings were released. On X, the large account @ahmetesmer2121 posted that day that candidates with the same score had dropped 2024 to 2.5 times lower in rank than 4.5 years ago. At peak anxiety, everyone wants to know "where will my score land?"
- The download curve lines up with these moments: at midnight 10-31 (the night associate-degree results came out), Play got a dozen-plus five-star reviews within an hour and iOS climbed to overall #1; the jumps on 11-02/03 and 11-06 match the minister's remarks and the undergraduate rankings release.
- The application guide for this batch of ministry positions hasn't been published yet (media reports on 11-02 are still waiting on the ÖSYM guide). The real peak should still be ahead, during the preference-filling week.
- Direct traffic from healthcare job-info accounts (strong evidence)
- Instagram @saglikcamiasibilgilendirme ("Health sector info," 259k followers, 1,660 posts), starting 11-03, posts ministry hiring news tagged "Kaynak: Atanalım – Tercih Rehberi Mobil Uygulaması" (posts DfSrMgZIeXE, DfSp_h2ITTf). Its 11-04 Reel says "40k+ healthcare candidates awaiting placement are already using Atanalım" (DfVV15YoosK). A five-star Play review reads verbatim "Sağlık Camiası Bilgilendirme WhatsApp," suggesting they also run a WhatsApp channel for traffic.
- Instagram @furkanaltuksb's department score analysis post reads "Data from the Atanalım mobile app; download it for detailed analysis" (DfS2QCNsP86).
- Are these accounts Atanalım's own, or paid partnerships? Unverified. The posts soft-plug the app as a "data source," which looks very much like an in-house network.
- During the 2025 web-version promotion, the Facebook page "Tercih Hocam" posted a video explicitly tagged "#Reklam #işbirliği" (ad/partnership). So paying creators has been this team's consistent playbook.
- iOS reviews include people saying "I came from Instagram, nothing to do with the Telegram groups," and name-checking "Ahmet Esmer" and "Osman bro." Ahmet Esmer has 108k followers on X, 385k on Instagram, and a 23.8k-member Telegram group; his bio lists him as chair of a placement expert committee. His relationship to Atanalım is unverified.
- Clustered positive reviews, evidence someone is organizing review-boosting
- On Play, 10-31 04:38 to 05:32 (Beijing time), about 1 hours, 12 five-star reviews appeared with content like "hocam (teacher), may God be pleased with you" and "Thanks to the teachers who built this app." This is a concentrated wave of praise after a community call to action, not organic reviews.
- iOS 11-02 and 11-04 also have batches of five-star short reviews.
- Network effect: the more peers join, the more accurate the simulation
- The simulation only uses data from candidates in the app, so users have a strong incentive to pull in people from their field. Verbatim reviews: "The more users, the more trustworthy the data, so I recommend it to everyone" and "Everyone should download it and fill in their own info."
- Each field gets its own chat room (Meslektaş), which is a retention hook. One review says "My field had no group anywhere, and here finally there is one."
- Not a new team; the web version already ran a full season
- atanalim.com has been registered for 2025-09-01; the earliest Wayback archive is from 2025-09-26. The brand page on Şikayetvar was set up 2025-10-02.
- For the 2025 ministry hiring round (15,247 positions), they already recruited creators using the web version's "KPSS placement simulation bot." This App effectively moves the data, content and channels accumulated last season onto mobile for a second run.
- The site also has many programmatically generated SEO pages: placement scores by province and field, cross-province reassignment scores, and YKS preference data, all viewable without signing up. That's a long-term search traffic entry point.
III. Competitors
| Name | Where | When | Scale | How Atanalım differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| memurlar.net KPSS preference bot | Web | 2020 years ago | Turkey's largest civil-service information portal; every KPSS placement round has a bot (the page lists past rounds from 2020/7 to 2026/1) | Covers all civil-service positions, not just healthcare; free web; no app, no field communities |
| Ztakip health ministry placement bot (saglik.ztakip.com) | Web | 2025 years ago | Claims "43,000+ members - 2025" | Also only targets the health ministry and uses member data for simulation, but web only, with no app or chat |
| Sağlık-Sen SAHA placement bot | Web (union) | Launched during the 2025 hiring round | Published by Turkey's largest health-sector union, free | Free with union backing; no paid tier, no community |
| Tıkla Atan(tiklaatan.com.tr) | Web | 2026 (exact date unverified) | Unknown | Nearly the same pitch: upload your transcript to verify, and simulate placements against real rivals in real time for 30 choices. Web only so far, with no big accounts driving traffic that I could see. |
| kpssrobotu.com | Web | 2019 | Old site | Just a lookup of past years' cutoff scores, with no simulation based on other participants. |
| Kariyer.net KPSS Tercih Motoru | Web (big-company feature) | Not verified | Turkey's largest job site | Recommends postings based only on past cutoff scores, with no simulation. Free. |
| AtamaRehberi.com, TayinRobotu.com | Web | 2025-01 / 2025-12 | Xiaozhan | The former adds cutoffs and staff reviews, the latter does cross-province transfer scores. |
| ATAMA BİLDİRİM PROGRAMI(Kariyer Cepte) | Android | Not verified | 48.5k Play installs, Education Top Grossing TR #43 | Sends job-posting alerts, with no preference simulation. |
| Sağlık Personeli: Tercih Robotu(Kodizlek) | Android | Not verified | 73 installs | The same idea as an app, but basically no traction. |
| TUS/DUS placement bots (e.g. TUSDATA) | Android / web | 2022 | DUSTercih Robotu 6,845 installs | Doctor and dentist specialty exams have had simulations for years. A review says it best: "The doctors' side has used allocation simulations for years, and now all KPSS candidates finally get one." |
Verdict: "Simulate placements from participant data" is not new in Turkey. Several web versions have existed for a while, and a union offers one for free.
4. What's the differentiator, and is it why this one took off?
- Native app plus medical-only focus: On Play and the App Store, this is the only app with real traction in the "medical KPSS placement simulation" niche. Searching kpss, tercih, and atama in our database turns up just one similar app, with 73 installs. Candidates can't find rivals in the app stores, and push notifications and group chats keep users coming back.
- Identity verification against fake scores: Signup requires uploading a diploma and KPSS transcript. Some reviewers find this annoying, others praise it ("fake accounts get removed, so it's trustworthy"). The biggest problem with web bots is people entering made-up scores, and this app tackles that the way Tıkla Atan does.
- Chat rooms by profession (Meslektaş): None of the web rivals have this. Most release notes from 1.0.33 to 1.0.35 are about fixing chat, which suggests users actually use it.
- Built-in distribution: The biggest difference from web rivals is a matrix of large medical-recruitment info accounts that send traffic directly to it.
Verdict: What really sets it apart is "an app format plus traffic from big accounts in the medical recruitment community, launched in the weeks when scores come out." The product differences (identity verification, chat rooms) help keep the referred users and get them to bring classmates. On product features alone, it wouldn't reach the overall charts this fast.
5. How the money comes back
- One-time payment: 499 TL covers 3 months, and 99 TL buys 3 results (about $12 and $2.4). That covers one application season, with no auto-renewal.
- There's also "expert review of your choice list" and one-on-one consulting by phone or DM. The company is literally named Anadolu Tercih Danışmanlık (Anadolu Tercih Consulting Ltd.), and the site says "paid consulting services available." The app is essentially a funnel feeding high-priced consulting (inferred).
- Risk: the bad reviews are almost all about "everything costs money", "can't delete my account", and "uploading ID raises privacy concerns"; 10-31 also has "banned for no reason". Once the season ends, downloads will fall off a cliff. Health ministry hiring runs one to two batches a year at most.
6. Visibility and copycats
- Visibility: spreading in small circles. No mainstream Turkish media coverage. Searching the X corpus (x-radar) for "Atanalım" returns nothing in the last ~30 days, and there's no related TikTok content. Word of mouth runs entirely through medical candidates' Instagram, WhatsApp, and Telegram groups. Revenue is not public; only automated chart aggregators like AppInsider list it.
- Copycats: I haven't seen any clear copies yet. Tıkla Atan's approach is nearly identical, but who came first and who copied whom is unverified.
VII. What others can borrow
- Find a concentrated decision moment with a clear calendar (score releases, choice submission, lotteries), and launch the app two weeks before it.
- Crowdsourced simulation data: Each user's data makes the product more valuable to others, so users naturally bring in peers.
- Users contribute data for free, then pay a small one-time fee to see results, collected right when anxiety peaks.
- Tie it to vertical-community info accounts, soft-placed as "data source: our app." That's more credible than hard ads.
- Identity verification solves the "people enter fake data" problem for crowdsourced data, and doubles as a selling point.
8. What's still uncertain
- What's the relationship between @saglikcamiasibilgilendirme, @furkanaltuksb, Ahmet Esmer, "Osman bro," and Anadolu Tercih Danışmanlık? Are they owned accounts or paid partnerships?
- "40k+ candidates using it" is the company's own claim.
- Paid conversion and real revenue. Ranking #13 on Play's Top Grossing only shows the education category has a low bar; it can't be converted into a revenue figure.
- Whether a second push is possible when the ministry's hiring really starts (expected late November to December), and whether users can be kept after the season (e.g. cross-province transfers, YKS, and other exams).
- Tıkla Atan's launch timing and scale.
