"Free Music Without Wi‑Fi": a small Moroccan dev, and how it pushed an offline music shell onto the 12 China music chart
What it is A free, ad-supported Android "offline music player"; the store page says it only plays songs already stored on your phone.
Why it took off The ads sell "free listening, no Wi‑Fi, no data," pushed in waves to Latin America, Nigeria, US Spanish speakers and older users. Installs are cheap, the ads are dense, and that's enough to pay back. The same developer runs sister packages to spread takedown risk.
DHow to ride it Skip the offline music apps. Copy the playbook instead: on the store page, lead with the safest feature; in ads, sell the one line users most want to hear; run several apps under one advertiser and launch them country by country; and move into tool categories that aren't crowded yet.

BeatCarry: Offline Music hit Google Play in August. By Nov 6 it had roughly 290k installs, and last week added another 87k. It charts on the Top Free music chart in Spain, the US, Mexico and 12 other countries. Its store page says it only plays songs already saved on your phone, yet the people installing it want free music streaming. Below is how this playbook got going, and why it's not worth copying: the same template already has a dozen-plus apps running on Play this year.
A 70-year-old Mexican user
In 2026 Sep 19, Mexican user Delia Margarita Peña wrote on its store page: "I really like it, I'm 70 years old, I always listened to it on the radio." 35 people marked it helpful.
A month later, two US reviews reached the top. On Oct 15, Cynthia Green wrote: "I don't know how to search for songs? My daughter's screen has search at the bottom, mine doesn't." (26 people found it helpful) On Oct 17, juan rivera wrote: "All old songs, not worth it, too many ads, and the sound is really loud." (50 people found it helpful)
Read together, the three reviews say the same thing: these people come to hear songs, not to organize the MP3 files on their phones. Yet the store description's last paragraph states in plain words: "BeatCarry is for playing and organizing local audio files that users own or have access to. It does not provide downloads of copyrighted music and has no streaming catalog." (Google Play listing, US and Mexico storefronts, 11-06)
What it is
A free, ad-supported "offline music player" with no in-app purchases. The store features are the usual local player set: import songs from the phone, browse by song, album, artist and folder, make playlists, lock-screen controls. The scenario keywords are stacked thick: commuting, workouts, studying, travel, poor signal.
Version 1.0.0, no updates since Sep 23. The developer is jadid-lyoum, the store registers a Moroccan individual named KHADIJA BELKHALFI, the support email is Gmail, the "website" is a photo recovery tool site, and the privacy policy is hosted on Google Sites.
Real local players have been on phones for ages: Samsung Music, Files by Google, and long-running veterans like Musicolet. BeatCarry isn't selling that.
What users want and what the store page says are two different things
Cynthia Green's review is the most telling: the same app shows search on her daughter's phone but not on hers. The likeliest explanation is that search and online-music features are switched on server-side per user or region, shown to some people only, while review and copyright checks see a clean local player (inference, supported by reviews, not verified by installing it). juan rivera's complaint that "it's all old songs" and the Mexican user using it like a radio both suggest it plays content that isn't on the user's own device.
A sibling app from the same developer launched 11 days earlier, OffPlay Music. In its Nigeria region, the most-liked one-star review says it all: "This isn't made for listening to music at all, it's made to show ads, playing a bit of music just to get you to download." (9-05,183 people found it helpful.) The second-ranked five-star review says: "I fell in love with the ad below." (9-20,178 people found it helpful.) Users came in through ads.
Install counts climbed in steps
| Timeline | Metric | Sources |
|---|---|---|
| Early September | About 57 new installs per day | Daily install history backfilled by a third party |
| Mid-September | 500–3,500 per day | Same as above |
| 10-04, 10-08 | Single-day +33k, +27k | Same as above |
| Late October | About 10k per day | Same as above |
| 10-29 → 11-06 | 205k → 292k (+87k) | Google Play public data |
| 11-06 | 165 ratings, about one per 1,800 installs | Google Play store page |
Sharp single-day spikes, then falling back, with several flat days in between: this is the pattern of ads pushed in batches, not word of mouth building slowly. The chart tells the same story: 10-29 it sits on the music Top Free charts in 8 countries, 11-06 going to 12, adding Italy, Brazil, Indonesia, the Philippines and Hong Kong; Spain climbed from 74 to a peak of 19. It looks like someone is opening paid campaigns one country at a time.
Ratings vary by country: US 3.8, Mexico 4.6, Nigeria 4.4 (11-06). Users in Spanish-speaking markets and Nigeria are happier, which fits where the ads are targeted.
It has almost no organic buzz online: a TikTok search for "BeatCarry" returns no relevant videos, no X posts mention it in 60 days, and the only hits are pages auto-scraped by APK mirror sites (11-06).
Where the money comes from: ads, run as a full pipeline
We did not directly find its own ad creatives. But the category's standard playbook is public: the Meta ad library has a page called "DropWave Music" that has run 1,128 ads in total, with 3 still live in November 43, rotating ten offline music packages under different developer names such as Technology Hub Pro and Flores. The creative copy is uniform: the Spanish version reads "Escucha Gratis, Donde Quieras 🎧 Sin WiFi, sin datos" (listen free, wherever you want, no Wi‑Fi, no data), the Portuguese version is the same, and the English version reads "Best Offline Music App". The countries where BeatCarry charts (Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, the US, Nigeria) are exactly the markets for these languages. There is no evidence that BeatCarry and DropWave are the same operator; only that the playbook is identical.
The payback math is easy to see: installs in Latin America and Nigeria are cheap (an estimated few cents each), users don't pay, but they listen for long stretches, so interstitial and audio ads can be stacked heavily. Reviews keep complaining about too many ads and loud sound.
Look at the developer too: jadid-lyoum runs two music shells, OffPlay (listed 7-27) and BeatCarry (listed 8-07), both released on the same day in September 24, plus two photo recovery tools. The four apps total about 3.96M installs. OffPlay rose from 390k to 650k this week, faster than BeatCarry. Music apps disguised like this carry a high takedown risk, so running several packages spreads it: losing one doesn't wipe everything out.
Who it's competing with: one of the most crowded lanes on Play
| Product | Launched | Installs (11-06) | Relationship to BeatCarry |
|---|---|---|---|
| Offline Music Player: Play MP3 | 2021-12 | 71.5M, 7 days +390k | Established leader, charting in 30 countries |
| Muso – Offline Music Mp3 Player | 2022-12 | 85.7M | Established leader, focused on India |
| Melody Beat(Flores) | 2025-08 | 19.9M | Early hit of the same template, #3 on the Brazil chart |
| PureTune(Flores) | 2026-03 | 7.1M | Same template, DropWave Music running paid ads |
| CrispTone | 2026-05 | 4.46M, 7 days +350k | Same template, 3 months earlier and 15 times larger |
| TuneCarry | 2026-06-30 | 950k | Name and description nearly word-for-word identical, 5 weeks earlier |
| OffPlay Music | 2026-07-27 | 650k, +260k in 7 days | Sister package from the same developer |
| BeatCarry | 2026-08-07 | 290k, +87k in 7 days | Late-arriving small shell |
Behind it, SongTrail (9-09), Mixtube (9-25) and IPLUG's Music Player (10-09) keep appearing. There is no product gap: the names, descriptions and screenshots are all the same template. BeatCarry charts only because it's a new package that hasn't yet been dragged down by bad reviews or store demotion.
If it were you
Verdict: D. The business makes money, but the money goes to whoever already has the template apps, paid acquisition accounts, multilingual creatives and a pile of developer accounts, i.e. the pipeline, not a newcomer app. BeatCarry itself is the eighth-plus follower.
Who it suits: teams already running tool-category paid acquisition on Play, with several developer accounts and the ability to absorb takedowns, who want to test it as one more category.
Who it doesn't suit: indie devs who want to build a genuinely good music app (the local player need was long ago met by the system and veterans, and the "free listening" users want rests on copyright issues); anyone with just one developer account (one ban and everything is gone); anyone who hasn't run ads (there is no organic traffic here, and zero discussion on TikTok or X).
How to do it: if you must touch it, drop the "Offline Music" label: the leaders have 70–80 million installs and mid-tier shells appear every month. The three moves worth learning, applied to other categories: state only the safest features on the store page and sell the line users most want to hear in the ads; run one paying entity pushing several packages, opening paid campaigns country by country and scaling in batches; target audiences with cheap installs and low ad sensitivity (Latin America, Nigeria, older Spanish speakers) and monetize through ads alone.
How to acquire users: paid acquisition only. Copy the DropWave playbook: "Listen free, no Wi‑Fi, no data", one version each in Spanish, Portuguese, English and Indonesian.
Is there a window? No window. This category has been running for five years. If you want to test it, look at whether your cost per install can drop below ad revenue per user. A two- or three-week small-budget test will tell you.
What would mean I'm reading this wrong? (1) A new developer with just one or two accounts, using the same template, takes a new app from zero to a million installs in early 2027. That would mean the barrier is lower than this suggests. (2) A similar app that doesn't rely on remote switches for a music catalog, only does licensed local playback or royalty-free radio, and still holds its ranking in Latin America and Nigeria. That would mean the "music without data" need has a legitimate version worth revisiting. (3) Google cracks down on these disguised music apps and the top few shells disappear together. That would close this path.

- Inferred Paid acquisition (Meta etc.): installs jump in steps (10-04 +33k, 10-08 +27k), and it added 4 national charts in one week. The DropWave Music page on Meta, in the same category, has run 1128 ads in total, rotating 10 different developers' offline music apps, with creative leading on "free, no Wi‑Fi" (Spanish, Portuguese, English, Indonesian). Our ad library didn't match BeatCarry's own ads.

Why BeatCarry: Offline Music (com.beatcarry.offlineaudio) got traction
Bottom line: The product didn't drive this. A small Moroccan developer account (jadid-lyoum) reused the proven "Offline Music" paid acquisition template. The store page says it plays songs already stored on your phone, to get through review. The ad creative sells "free music, no Wi‑Fi, no data" aimed at Latin American, Nigerian, US Spanish-speaking and older users. Once installed, the app pays back through ads. Installs rise in steps, and organic buzz is nearly absent. All of this points to bought traffic, and the buyer is an account matrix, not this one app.

Step-like jumps with flat days in between look like batches of paid ads, not organic word-of-mouth growth. The charts show the same thing: 10-29 charted in only 8 countries, now 11-06 in 12 (it, br, id, ph and hk are new), and Spain jumped from #74 to #19. Someone is launching campaigns country by country.
2. Competitors: one of the most crowded lanes on Play
Pulled from our googleplay database by title ("Offline Music" / "XxxCarry"). More than a dozen new in the last 6 months use the same naming ("Brand: Offline Music") and the same description template (commute / workout / study / travel / poor signal):

Conclusion: no product gap here. In this category BeatCarry is a late-arriving small account, mid-to-low in scale.
3. Growth levers: the evidence
- Meta ads (the category-level pattern is confirmed; BeatCarry itself isn't in our library): The Meta page "DropWave Music" in the metaads library has run 1,128 ads in total, 11-03 still live 43, rotating across 10 packages (com.crstne.offmusicplayer, com.puretunemusic.radio, com.melora.offlineplayer, com.melo.lomu, com.wavemusicplayer.app, com.gtmpradio.music…). These packages sit under different developer accounts (Technology Hub Pro, Flores, YIXIANG…), and the creatives use the same copy: "Best Offline Music App / Import and play music offline"; Spanish version "Escucha Gratis, Donde Quieras 🎧 Sin WiFi, sin datos"; Portuguese version "Ouça grátis… Sem Wi‑Fi, sem dados". So the standard play in this category is one paying entity + several shell developer accounts + multilingual creatives in Spanish, Portuguese, English and Indonesian, pitched as free music that doesn't eat your data. BeatCarry's charting countries (es/mx/ar/br/us/ng) line up with the languages in these creatives. Our Meta, TikTok and Google ad libraries don't show BeatCarry's own ads. Those libraries only track products on our watchlist, so not finding them doesn't mean they aren't running.
- The install curve looks like paid acquisition: see above. Single days jump by 33k and 27k, then fall back. In one week it charted in 4 countries at once.
- What the reviews reveal about what users get:
- "I cant figure out how to search for music? My daughter has search at the bottom, but I dont?" (Cynthia Green, 10-15,26 found this helpful). Same app, but some users see a search bar and others don't. This suggests the search feature is switched on remotely per user or region. The store page only mentions local files and offers no catalog. (Inferred, not verified)
- "old music… a lot adds or commercial… sound too loud" (juan rivera, 10-17,50 found this helpful). There is old music to listen to, plus lots of ads and loud audio.
- "tengo 70 años y siempre la busco en una emisora" (Mexico store, 9-19). A 70-year-old user who treats it as a radio station.
- A review of the sibling app OffPlay: "it was not made for music instead it was for ads and put a little music so that people will download it" (Nigeria store, 183 found this helpful). These comments suggest that what draws people in and keeps them is "free music without using data", not playing local files.
- Almost no organic channel: TikTok search for "BeatCarry" returns no relevant videos (TikHub). X had 0 posts in 60 days (x-radar). Online, only auto-scraped mirror sites appear, like Softonic, CNET, APKPure and AppBrain.
- Store search / ASO: the title stuffs in the keyword "Offline Music", and the description is packed with scene words like commute, workout, study and travel. This helps convert ad traffic, but on its own it can't push the app into the 12-country charts.
4. Why it took off
- The need is real and has always existed: Latin America, Nigeria, Southeast Asia, plus US Spanish-speaking and older users. Data is expensive, people don't want to pay for Spotify, and "listen free without Wi‑Fi" is a pitch that always finds takers.
- The paid acquisition math works: users don't pay, but they open the app often and listen for long stretches, and there are many interstitial and audio ads (users complain about them constantly). CPI is cheap in Latin America and Nigeria, a few cents per install, so ads can pay back the cost.
- Account matrix spreads the risk: the same developer, jadid-lyoum, holds two music shells (OffPlay and BeatCarry) released 11 days apart, 9-24 on the same release day. There are also two photo recovery tools (about 3M installs combined). The four apps total 3.96M installs. This category has a high takedown risk, so running several packages in parallel means one ban doesn't wipe out everything.
- Compliance shell: the description repeats "user-owned local files" and "does not provide copyrighted music downloads" to get through review and deflect copyright complaints. The features users actually want are shown to only some users through remote switches. (Inferred; supported by reviews, not verified by installing the app)
5. Differentiation
Almost no product differentiation. The name, description and screenshot style are the same as TuneCarry, CrispTone and PureTune. It works because of distribution (paid acquisition + multilingual campaigns + multiple packages), not because it's different. The only real edge is that it's a new package: new packages haven't yet been pushed down by store ranking or dragged down by bad reviews, so they still get a window.
6. Visibility and copycats
- Nobody knows about it: no public revenue, no media or big accounts have covered it, only scattered talk on X and TikTok 0. AppGazers estimates in-app purchase revenue < $5K (there are no IAPs to speak of; the money is all from ads), and October downloads est. 35k to 170k.
- Copycats: it is itself a copycat (TuneCarry 6-30 came first, same naming scheme). After it, the same template keeps popping up: SongTrail (9-09), Mixtube (9-25), Music Player: Offline Music (IPLUG, 10-09).
7. Takeaways
- The features shown to review are written separately from the features the ads sell: the store page describes the safest version, the creatives promise what users want most. Common on Play, but high risk of takedown and account bans.
- One ad entity pushes multiple developer shell packages, opening paid campaigns country by country and scaling in batches.
- Targeting: expensive emerging markets + older users + Spanish-speaking users, low CPI, and less sensitive to ads.
- Each individual package has a short lifespan; what's actually valuable is the whole pipeline: template app, ad accounts, multilingual creatives.
8. Still unclear
- BeatCarry's own ad creatives and acquisition channels were not directly found (our ad libraries didn't match; possibly Meta / Google UAC / Unity or other ad networks).
- Which users the "song search" feature is given to, and where the audio comes from (YouTube? Jamendo? radio streams?), have not been verified by installing the app.
- No data on ad revenue or ROI; retention can only be inferred from reviews.
- No evidence on whether jadid-lyoum and DropWave Music, Flores, etc. are run by the same operator; we can only say the playbook is the same.
