"Activation code 1919": a player that claims to host nothing, how it got installed on 240k phones in one month
What it is An Android video player. The store listing says it only plays your own links; outside the store, people share the activation code 1919 to watch beIN Sports matches for free, monetized with ads.
Why it took off Maghrebi and French/Spanish diaspora already wanted free football. On Oct 25, a line about "Ben Ben TV, code 1919" spread through Facebook groups around the national derby weekend, rising from a few thousand to 140k in a few days; only accepting Play installs then pushed it onto the French category chart.
DHow you could approach it Don't copy the piracy; borrow only the playbook: build a legitimate product for Maghrebi or French Arabic-speaking diaspora, time the release to the match schedule, rely on fan groups and streamers spreading a name plus one action, and prioritize France and Spain for store listing and high-CPM ads.

BenBen TV on Google Play is a clean M3U player whose listing says over and over "no channels included". In Facebook groups in Algeria and Morocco, what people share is "install Ben Ben TV, enter 1919, watch all beIN Sports free". It has only been up for four weeks, installs have climbed with the football schedule, and it regularly sits in the top ten of the French video player chart. The playbook is clear and learnable, but its core step is piracy, and there is little a copycat can take away.
One Facebook post
On Oct 31, an Algerian user named Lounes Kad posted on Facebook in Arabic. Translated: "Ben Ben TV, live beIN Sports, all the matches. Works great, doesn't lag even on a weak connection. Activation code 1919. Download from the Play Store; downloads from outside the store won't work."
Six days ago, on Oct 25, the day of the Real Madrid vs. Barcelona clásico, someone in the Algerian fan group「الهداف الجزائري」asked: which app doesn't lag during the big matches? A commenter replied with one name: Benben TV. A Moroccan account called YORI TV also posted a video titled "Two Free Streaming Apps: BEN BEN TV and TVA VOD," with 8,500 views.
None of these three posts contains a link or an ad, just a name and a four-digit number.
What it actually is: one face in the store, another face outside it
On the Play Store, BenBen TV looks like an ordinary player: paste an M3U / M3U8 / MP4 link, tap Watch, and it plays. The listing has a long passage on this: "BenBen TV does not include any channels, content or live streams. The app has no media library. We do not sell subscriptions, activation codes or playlists." The app ships with one demo test playlist. The developer is STICKER GOLD (STICKER GOLD LTD), first published Oct 9, with ads and no in-app purchases.
Outside the store, it's a sports-watching tool: enter the public activation code 1919 and it pulls a remotely delivered channel list that includes beIN Sports (per users; we did not verify the install ourselves, and what the code unlocks specifically is unconfirmed). "Doesn't work if installed outside the Play Store" suggests it checks where it was installed from (inferred), which keeps every install counted on Play and pushes the chart ranking up.
Users understand it this way too. Nearly all the Play reviews are in Maghrebi Arabic and French. One from Oct 21 says: "Channels won't open, there's no Moroccan channel, please restore the channels and add Moroccan ones." A player that claims to include no channels is getting users in the review section asking it to add channels. Two one-star reviews complain about the same thing: "only sound, no picture." That's the most common complaint when a pirated stream's transcoding breaks.
Why these weeks: it rode the football
| Timeline | Total installs | What happened |
|---|---|---|
| Around 10-22 | About 7k | Two weeks after launch, not much movement |
| 10-24 to 10-26 | 64k → 144k | Derby weekend, 3–40k a day for three days |
| 11-01 | 196k | Another league weekend, +52k |
| 11-03 | 223k | +27k |
| 11-06 | 238k | Back to 4–6 thousand a day |
(Google Play install counts. The single-day Oct numbers are third-party estimates spread across days, so only the shape is meaningful. Play's counts often update a day or two late, and the reasons for the pauses between 10-27 and 10-29 are unverified.)
The biggest surge landed on the Oct 25 derby weekend. The same day, another Maghreb football app, KoraPlus, also gained over 80k installs in a single day. The demand was already there: Maghrebi viewers in Maghreb and in France and Spain pay for beIN Sports, and during big tournaments people go looking for free options on their own. BenBen just happened to be the name that spread by word of mouth that weekend.
By Nov 6, it had added 94k in the last 7 days, ranking #10 in the France Google Play free video players chart (it has stayed between #9 and #10 since 10-29), and #39 in Spain. Similarweb shows it at #47 on the overall free chart in Algeria's Play store in Nov 3. 238k installs with only 207 ratings, about 0.09%, which doesn't look like rating manipulation.
Where users come from: one name plus one code
We found no trace of paid acquisition. Distribution rests on three things:
- A catchphrase people can pass along by word of mouth. "Ben Ben TV, code 1919" fits in one line and spreads through Facebook group comments without links or explanation. Unlike Yacine TV or Sir TV, which borrow established pirate-brand names to capture search, it coined a new name, and the name plus the code is the entire pitch.
- Short video and live rooms. TikTok has already auto-generated topic pages such as "Benben Tv تطبيق" (Benben Tv app), "رابط تطبيق Ben Ben Tv" (Ben Ben TV link), and "تطبيق Benben Tv على داونلودر" (Ben Ben TV on Downloader, the tool used to sideload APKs onto TV boxes). The top one is a video posted Oct 25 by an Algerian live streamer with 42.9k followers. Whether he's promoting BenBen is unverified.
- The chart adds another layer of organic traffic. Since only Play installs count, scattered traffic from various groups all flows into Play, pushing it up the France category chart, and the chart then brings in store search. APK landing pages such as benbentv.com use copy identical to the store listing, and APKPure and Softonic have indexed it too.
Where the money comes from: ads, and French ads specifically
No in-app purchases, just ads. A French review from Oct 24 says: "il y avait beaucoup d'ads" (there were lots of ads). The Oct 23 update notes say "added privacy consent options for European and UK users," which reads like compliance work to serve ads in the European region.
The play here: ad rates in Algeria and Morocco are low, but Maghrebi communities in France and Spain watch the same Arabic channels, and ads there are priced at French rates. On Play, its reviews are filed under France, but the people writing them are all using Arabic. How much ad revenue it earns is not visible from the outside.
This developer: one template, many names
STICKER GOLD has four apps on Play. Besides BenBen TV:
- EgyUp Player, first published Sep 14, has 4,191 ratings from 47k installs (a ratings rate of 8.9%, about 100 times BenBen's, likely from prompting positive reviews; inferred). Its Nov 4 Facebook promo post reads: "EgyUp Player is worth a try, the activation code is in the first comment, your support keeps us going." The name borrows from Egypt's pirate movie-site Egy brand family.
- Var TV: 11-06 check of the Play page shows an Oct 11 update, 100+ installs, and a listing nearly identical sentence-for-sentence to BenBen's, with the same "try the demo playlist" line and a long disclaimer. It looks like the next skin is already prepared.
- There's also a wallpaper app, WallBest.
Apps like this typically last weeks: they get taken down after copyright complaints or when Google finds hidden content. The response is to run several package names at once, so when one is banned the next takes over.
Who it's competing with
The "watch football for free" app category in the Maghreb and wider Arab world is already a crowded gray market (all install counts from Google Play, 11-06):
| Approach | Examples | Scale |
|---|---|---|
| Score app shell + piracy | Yacine TV, KoraSnap, KoraPlus, Sir TV | 7.93M, 3.84M, 470k, 290k |
| Activation-code IPTV players (codes are sold) | Shamel TV / Pro, Max TV Pro | 140k / 115k, 138k |
| Legitimate players that take your own link | TiviMate, Televizo, Smarters IPTV Pro, VLC | 5.35M, 7.7M, 267k, 518M |
BenBen is a blend of the last two: the outside is the third type, which lets it chart in a strictly reviewed market like France; inside it's the second type, but the code is free and public, and ads pay the bills. The free code makes it spread fast, and it also keeps it short-lived, since once the code is public, the rights holders can see it too.
Can you ride it?
Copying this means doing piracy. beIN is a rights holder known for litigating, and Google Play policy explicitly bans this kind of "clean at review, different after launch" hidden content. The risk of account bans and liability falls on the developer, not the user.
The clean alternative is a plain IPTV player. That market belongs to TiviMate, Televizo and VLC, so why would users pick yours? BenBen's whole appeal is that code. Remove it and it's identical to hundreds of other players.
What's still worth learning is a few tactics, which hold up for legitimate products too:
- Installs follow events. Its biggest surge came on the derby weekend. Sports, exam and holiday products need content and notifications in place a day or two before the event.
- Diaspora arbitrage. The same Arabic-speaking users are worth far more to advertisers in France and Spain than at home, and country-level category charts have low thresholds: the #10 spot on France's video players chart needs only a few thousand installs a day.
- A one-line catchphrase. A short name people can say out loud, plus one concrete action (a code, a step), spreads through Facebook groups for free.
If it were you
D: learn from it, don't copy it. It's popular because of pirated beIN content. Strip that layer away and it's a generic player, dropped into a red ocean with TiviMate and VLC.
Who it's for: people building legitimate products for Maghrebi audiences or Arabic-speaking diaspora in France, such as scores, fixture reminders, team news, or Arabic learning, borrowing its event rhythm and diaspora traffic.
Who it's not for: anyone who wants to copy the "empty shell plus activation code" model. It's illegal, and bans and liability are only a matter of time. Also, the category includes Yacine TV, with nearly 8M installs, and that same developer runs three shells at once.
How to do it (if you only borrow the tactics): pick a legitimate need with a real Maghrebi or diaspora use case, build the product bilingual in Arabic and French, prioritize the France and Spain store listings, and time releases and notifications to the fixture calendar, with everything ready 48 hours before a big match.
How to get users: follow the playbook: Facebook groups of football fans in Algeria and Morocco, and TikTok creators making "which app do you use to watch…" content. Give people a name they can say out loud and one concrete action, not a link.
Deadline: there's no hard deadline for those borrowing the tactics. Every big weekend, like a Champions League night or a derby, is a chance to test. Launch the first version before the next big weekend.
Where this could be wrong: ① BenBen TV has lasted 2027 years into January, still on Play and still near the top of France's chart 20, which suggests Google enforces against these shells more loosely than expected, and the window is longer than a few weeks; ② legitimate Arabic-language players or football tools without hidden content have held spots on France's chart using the same Facebook groups and fixture-calendar timing, which suggests growth isn't just about the code and the channel itself is worth following. This judgment should be revised upward.

Why BenBen TV (com.benben.tv) broke out
In one line: on Google Play it's a "no content, just play your own link" M3U player. Outside the store, Facebook and TikTok in the Maghreb (Algeria / Morocco) carry the message "Ben Ben TV plays all beIN Sports matches for free, activation code 1919". That's a hidden pirate channel unlocked by an activation code, wrapped in a compliant-looking player. Installs track the match calendar (10-24~26 national derby weekend, +140k over three days), and it monetizes through ads. The product itself isn't differentiated; the difference is that it looks like a "clean player" to app review, and to users it's "one code and you can watch the game".
1. Basic data
- Developer STICKER GOLD (legal name STICKER GOLD LTD, email [email protected], website codingb.today), first published 2026-10-09, version 1.0.0, has ads and no in-app purchases (googleplay.app / app_profile, 2026-11-06).
- Cumulative global installs 237,648, +93,626 in the last 7 days; only 207 ratings, averaging 4.6 stars (rating rate about 0.09%, very low) (googleplay.app_profile 2026-11-06).
- Curve since launch (AppstoreSpy estimates, googleplay.app_day_ext; daily figures are averaged, so only the shape is meaningful):
- Around 10-22 about 7k → 10-24 63.8k → 10-25 99.8k → 10-26 144k: 2.8~44k per day over three days. This weekend is the 10-25 Real Madrid vs Barcelona national derby (another report in this library, play_com.sirtv.tv, has already checked this; on the same day KoraPlus also added +83k in one day).
- 10-27~29 barely moved (about 12 per day; Play installs often update one or two days late, and the reason for the stall in these days hasn't been verified).
- 10-30~11-01 +52k, 11-02~03 +26.5k, then from 11-04 it fell back to 4~6k per day.
- Charts (googleplay.chart_rank, VIDEO_PLAYERS Top Free only): France ranked #9~10 from 10-29 to 11-06; Spain #30~48; Canada #50~91; Italy #52~88; Japan / US / Netherlands / UK #70~159. Algeria and Morocco aren't among our 30 stores. Similarweb shows it at #47 on the Algeria Play Top Free overall chart (https://www.similarweb.com/top-apps/google/algeria/top-free/) and in Morocco's video-player chart (https://www.similarweb.com/top-apps/google/morocco/video-players-editors/top-free/), where it ranked 11-03.
- Reviews (googleplay.review, a sample of 26, all under the fr store) are almost all in Arabic (Maghrebi dialects) or French. Key ones:
- "قنوات لا تعمل … قنوات مغربيه غير موجوده … باعادة القنوات تشتغل وإضافة قنوات مغربيه" (channels don't work … no Moroccan channels … please restore the channels and add Moroccan channels) (10-21). A player that claims to "include no channels" and users are asking for channels.
- "صوت دون صورة" (sound without picture) appears twice (10-21, 10-30), a classic complaint when pirated streams are transcoded badly.
- "هكا يكونو تطبيقات لجيران" (that's how neighbors' apps turn out) (10-30, with the Moroccan flag): Moroccan users assume it was made by Algerians.
- "il y avait beaucoup d'ads" (there were a lot of ads) (10-24).
- The same developer's other app, EgyUp Player (com.egyup.player), was first published 2026-09-14, has 47k installs, yet has 4,191 ratings (rating rate 8.9%, about 100 times BenBen's, strongly suggesting incentivized or bought reviews), and ranked #120~190 on the France, Spain and Italy VIDEO_PLAYERS Top Free charts (googleplay library). AppBrain says this developer has 3 apps and about 200k installs in total; the developer's Play page also lists WallBest: 4K Wallpapers. The Var TV (com.veen.plus) mentioned in the data card isn't in our library, unverified.
2. What it actually sells: pirated streams unlocked by activation codes
- The store listing repeatedly stresses "no channels, content or live streams included, no subscriptions, activation codes or playlists sold" (Google Play page; the landing page benbentv.com repeats the line verbatim: "That honesty is the whole appeal").
- Outside the store, the story is entirely different:
- Algerian user Lounes Kad 10-31 posted on Facebook: "تطبيق Ben Ben Tv لمشاهدة جميع مباريات بي ان سبورت على المباشر … لا يحتاج قوة الانترنت كود التفعيل 1919 يمكنك تنزيله من متجر بلاي ستور اذا نزلته من خارجه لا يعمل". Translation: Ben Ben TV lets you watch every beIN Sports match live, doesn't need a strong connection, activation code 1919, download it from the Play store; if you install it from outside, it doesn't work (https://www.facebook.com/loulou.kadri/posts/2986970201655067/).
- In the Algerian fan group "الهداف الجزائري" 10-25 (on national derby day) someone asked which app doesn't lag on match day, and a commenter replied "Benben tv" (https://www.facebook.com/groups/884590382503503/posts/1956867268609137/).
- The Moroccan account YORI TV posted the video "جوج تطبيقات للفرجة المجانية | BEN BEN TV و TVA VOD" (two free viewing apps: BEN BEN TV and TVA VOD), with 8,500 views and 135 interactions (https://www.facebook.com/yori2030/videos/1991044168246489/).
- Its sister app EgyUp Player runs the same playbook: the Facebook page "عالم التطبيقات" 11-04 posted "EgYup Player is worth a try, the activation code is in the first comment, your support keeps us going" (https://www.facebook.com/groups/24969535806047433/posts/28912457445088563/). The name "EgyUp" itself borrows from the Egy pirate-streaming family (EgyBest / EgyDead and similar).
- TikTok already has auto-generated topic pages for "Benben Tv تطبيق", "تطبيق Ben Ben Tv", "رابط تطبيق Ben Ben Tv", "تطبيق Benben Tv على داونلودر" (Downloader is the tool TV boxes use to sideload APKs), last updated 2026-10-26. The top page is a video from Algerian streamer @www.moullechi.com (42.9k followers, three live streams a day, often replying to fans asking "which app?") 10-25. Whether he is promoting BenBen is unverified.
- Conclusion: the Play version is an empty player for app review (with a demo playlist included). After you enter code 1919, it pulls a remotely delivered channel list (beIN Sports and others). "Apps installed from outside the store don't work" suggests it checks the install source (most likely with Play Integrity / installer checks), which also routes every install through Play and inflates its Play rank. Distribution of the codes happens entirely through Facebook groups, TikTok and word of mouth.
III. Competitors
"Watch sports for free" apps in the Maghreb and the Arab world are already a crowded grey category, with three main approaches:
- Score-app shells with pirated streams: Yacine TV (com.yacinetvapps.sportlive, 7.93M installs; com.yacinetvllc.yacinetv.livescores, 1.72M, +7k over 266 days), KoraPlus (com.sirtv.tv, 473k), SIR TV (live.egylive, 148k), Sir TV - مباريات مباشر (289k), KoraSnap (3.84M), Buz Tv (450k).
- IPTV players gated by activation codes: Shamel TV / Shamel Pro (140k / 115k), Max Tv Pro (138k, +7k over 20 days). TikTok is full of "Max TV Pro / Buz TV activation code" tutorials.
- Generic IPTV players (users bring their own M3U): Smarters IPTV Pro on the France chart (by Lucky Virani, first published 2026-07, 267k installs, #7 in France), TiviMate (5.35M), Televizo (7.7M), Ibo Player Smarter (320k), GoLive TV (1.94M), and VLC (518M).
(All install figures above come from the googleplay library 2026-11-06.)
BenBen sits in a mix of 2 and 3: its outside is 3 (a clean "bring your own link" player like Smarters and Ibo, which is how it can chart in a strictly reviewed market like France), and its core is 2 (a publicly shared code unlocks beIN channels). Compared with Yacine or Sir TV, it doesn't ride an existing brand's search traffic; it built a new name and spreads through "code + name" word of mouth on Facebook and TikTok.
4. Growth tactics
| Channel | Evidence | Confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Facebook personal / group word of mouth: "activation code 1919" | Lounes Kad 10-31 post; 10-25 comment in the الهداف الجزائري group; YORI TV video with 8.5K views | Yes |
| Match-day essentials (national derbies, weekend leagues, Champions League) | 10-24~26 +137k over three days, overlapping with the 10-25 national derby; KoraPlus and Yacine TV also surged over 10-25 | Yes (timing matches; causation is inferred) |
| TikTok creators / live rooms | TikTok has generated a topic page for "Benben Tv تطبيق"; a video from Algerian live streamer @www.moullechi.com is pinned | partly (video content unverified) |
| forces install from Play, funneling traffic into Play chart rankings | "Doesn't work if installed outside the store" (Lounes Kad post) | yes (per user claims, technical implementation unverified) |
| APK / SEO landing pages | benbentv.com (download page offers BenBen TV_1.0.0.xapk), APKPure, Softonic, CNET and dzapk (MOD ad-free version) are all indexed | yes (unverified whether benbentv.com belongs to the developer, but the writing style matches the store listing exactly) |
| Paid acquisition | Not found; Meta / TikTok ad libraries don't show it | No |
| Prompted reviews | BenBen's rating rate is 0.09%, which doesn't look manipulated; sister app EgyUp is 8.9%, and its "support us" pitch is sent together with activation codes, so manipulation is strongly suspected | Partial |
Where the money comes from: no in-app purchases, it runs on ads (users complain about too many ads; the update notes mention "adding privacy consent options for EU / UK users" and "improving the ad experience," which suggests integration with a UMP-style consent framework like AdMob's). eCPMs from Algeria / Morocco are low, but Maghrebi diaspora traffic in France and Spain is valuable, which is why it reached #10 on the France VIDEO_PLAYERS chart: French-store reviews are almost all in Arabic.
V. Visibility and copycats
- No media coverage, zero mentions on X (x-radar over the last 60 days), revenue not disclosed. Discussion only appears in Arabic and French Facebook groups and TikTok topic pages. Verdict: it's circulating in small circles (Maghrebi football fan circles).
- Copycats: the same developer's EgyUp Player uses the same template (launched a month earlier); in the category, Shamel and Max TV Pro, "activation code player" apps, already existed. No one else has been seen copying BenBen.
- Risk: apps like this typically live for weeks. A beIN complaint or Google discovering hidden content gets them pulled, then they reappear under a new package name and new branding (this developer already has two names running).
VI. Why it made it to the charts
- The demand is a ready-made must-have: Maghrebi users (including diaspora in France and Spain) pay for beIN Sports, and on big match days users actively look for free options. Its biggest install wave landed on the weekend of the 10-25 national derby.
- The compliance shell keeps it on Play and lets it chart in major markets: the listing is full of disclaimers, and the first screen is a clean "paste a link" player, so it stayed at #9~10 on the France VIDEO_PLAYERS chart and reached #47 overall in Algeria.
- Distribution runs on a catchy "password": "Ben Ben TV, code 1919" can spread through Facebook groups and comment sections in one sentence, with no paid acquisition. Forcing installs from Play also turns scattered traffic into chart positions, and those charts bring in store search traffic.
- It's one piece of a matrix: the same developer first built EgyUp Player (September), and BenBen is the October re-skin. When one shell gets banned, the next goes up.
VII. Differentiation
No product differentiation (M3U / HLS / MP4 playback, fullscreen, fast-forward, same as hundreds of IPTV players). The real "difference" lies in two layers of identity: to Google, it's a generic player with zero content; to users, it's "one code gets you beIN." Compared with brand-hijacking score apps like Yacine / Sir TV, it doesn't ride other brands' search traffic and instead builds its own name plus a password. Compared with paid activation-code apps like Shamel / Max TV Pro, its code is public and free, with ads covering costs. This "free public code" is exactly why it spreads fast and also why it doesn't last long.
VIII. What's worth borrowing (only the legitimate parts)
- Event-driven growth rhythm: installs follow big events (match days), and content and push notifications must be in place one or two days before the event.
- Arbitrage on diaspora traffic: the same users are worth far more to advertisers in France / Spain than at home, and per-country category charts have low entry barriers (France VIDEO_PLAYERS #10 only needs a few thousand installs a day).
- Word of mouth via a "one-line password": a short, speakable name plus a concrete action (a code, steps) spreads through Facebook groups for free.
- Parts not worth copying: hidden pirated content violates Google Play policy and copyright law, with high risk of removal and legal liability.
9. What I'm still unsure about
- What exactly does 1919 unlock (remote M3U, built-in channels, or redirects to web pages)? No real install-based verification.
- Did the install count at 10-27~29 stall because Play counting hasn't updated, the app was temporarily removed, or nobody really installed it? Unclear.
- Whether benbentv.com and the TikTok promotion were run by the developer or by third-party APK sites and creators spontaneously: unverified.
- Which country the developer is in: Moroccan users say it's "the neighboring country (Algeria)," but the registration info has no address. Unverified.
- How much ad revenue it earns: completely unknown.
