Your Guy: AI Romance Soulmate · Novella Dream Labs

Ten minutes in and the messages are locked behind a paywall: an AI boyfriend app that spiked for two days and died on day three

What it is A women-focused AI boyfriend chat plus romance interactive fiction, with personas like the domineering CEO, the bad boy, the knight and the childhood friend. A few messages in, it hits the paywall.

Why it blew up It didn't: from November 1 to 2 it bought traffic in two concentrated days, never entered any overall or grossing chart, and after spend stopped it was down to twenty or thirty installs a day, with ratings of only 1 and 5 stars. It looks fake.

DHow you could follow it Don't follow the app itself. If you want into this category, study Rendio and Dokichat, which are already on the grossing charts. Pick one language's local romance-reader community and go deep, get memory of plot right, push the paywall later, and test retention with small paid budgets.

Grade D: it didn't break out. Its product is indistinguishable from many earlier, bigger AI boyfriend apps, and the growth it had was bought and has since stopped. What's worth learning is the factory's product-testing rhythm and the user pain points in its reviews. Few people know about it yet

On Oct 14, an app called Your Guy: AI Romance Soulmate showed up on Google Play, published by a developer account called Novella Dream Labs with almost nothing else under it. On Nov 2 it added 5,700 installs in a single day, then fell back to 20 to 30 a day three days later. Below: who built it, where that spike came from, why it's not worth chasing, and why the playbook behind it is worth a look.

「Locked after less than ten minutes」

On Oct 27, a user named Abbigail Gold left a review on the store page:

I just started and it's been less than ten minutes and the messages are locked. I did one more action and three more were locked. No watching ads to unlock, no diamonds to use, it just pushes you into a subscription.

Four days later, Romi Livne wrote almost the same thing: "Less than 10 minutes in, messages are locked behind the paywall... and not even diamonds work, it's membership only!" On Nov 3, Susan Mitchell cut her original 5-star rating, saying the AI forgets the plot and you have to keep reminding it: "The biggest problem is that I can't find English stories, most are in other languages, and there's no way to translate them" (Google Play review).

These three are all the written reviews it has. The other hundred-plus ratings are only two kinds: 1 stars and 5 stars.

What it is

The store page calls it 「an AI boyfriend you can chat, flirt and write stories with」. The opening screen shows four personas: the broken CEO (cold and distant, only showing protectiveness now and then), the mysterious bad boy, the fantasy knight, and the childhood friend who has secretly loved you for years. You can also build your own, setting his personality, background and way of speaking. Gameplay is chat plus choices to advance the plot. Story types listed are 'enemies to lovers', slow burn, forbidden love and fantasy adventure. Once the relationship reaches a certain point, 「exclusive images and memories」 unlock.

On money: it has ads, in-app purchases from $4.99 to $99.99 per item, plus a membership subscription. Rated Teen, with 「suggestive themes」 noted. It's filed under Lifestyle, not Simulation or Entertainment (Google Play store page, 11-06).

In plain terms: a women-focused AI boyfriend chat plus romance interactive fiction, with the web-novel personas of the domineering CEO, the bad boy and the knight; the first few messages are free, then it locks messages per turn and sells membership.

Who made it: a new label from an AI app factory in Hanoi

The privacy policy sits under a subdomain of 3bproductai.com, and the developer email is a gmail made of random letters. 3B Product AI's website describes itself as an 「AI platform」, with a product line covering music, images, video, voice and logo generation. Its Facebook page 「3B AI Generator」 lists an address in Hanoi.

The same company has several other Play accounts: AI Song & Lyric Generator, launched last November, about 840k installs; 3B Music AI about 186k; Fin Photo about 34k (Google Play install counts, early November). It opens one account per category. Besides Your Guy, the Novella Dream Labs account also has an app called Ruby Fashion. This is a common practice among Vietnamese app factories: list in bulk, pick one to spend on, add budget if the numbers are good, and swap in the next one if they aren't.

A few things look off:

  • The curve is a spike, not a slope. The first two weeks after launch it added a few dozen installs a day; at the end of October it was about 300 a day; from November 1 to 2 it added nearly 3,000 a day; starting November 4 it dropped to twenty or thirty a day. An app that's truly building through word of mouth doesn't fall like that.
  • No chart support. In those two days it never entered any country's overall or grossing chart. It only ranked #106 to #197 on the Lifestyle Top Free charts in Sweden, South Africa, Argentina, Mexico, Poland, Spain and the Netherlands, and it appeared on the 「New Free Lifestyle」 charts in France and Germany, reaching #9 in France (AppBrain). A few thousand installs weren't driven by chart exposure. The most likely explanation is a concentrated buy of one or two days of traffic (inference; it doesn't show in Meta's public ad library, so the channel isn't confirmed).
  • The ratings look fake. By the time it had 852 installs it already had 49 ratings, a rating rate near 6%, where normal apps usually sit around 1%; there wasn't a single 2 or 4-star rating; on the November 1 day installs didn't move at all, yet 5-star ratings rose by 22 (inference).
  • You can't find it on TikTok or X. Searching the name returns no videos or posts; the only results online are auto-generated pages from APK download sites.

So that wave wasn't a breakout, it was a paid-traffic test. Spend ran for two days, then stopped. Whether the test failed or the creative is being swapped out depends on the numbers after November 8.

Who it's competing with

This category is already crowded. The big players are general character chat: Character AI at about 70M installs, Talkie at about 60M, PolyBuzz at about 58M (still adding 7k over the last 370 days, and it reached #33 on the France grossing chart), and Linky AI at about 24M. Several romance-plot apps got there first:

Source: Google Play installs and grossing charts, early November.

One ring further out are Romance Club, Journeys and Dreame, romance interactive-fiction apps with tens of millions of installs each, competing for the same women who read romance. ChatGPT and Grok can also play a boyfriend. What Your Guy sells (domineering personas, choices that drive the plot, unlockable images) is something all these rivals already offer, and they did it earlier and better. Here it only holds a test slot at eight thousand installs.

If it were you

The verdict: Your Guy isn't worth following. It didn't break out, the product has nothing others don't, the wave of installs was bought, and that buying has already stopped.

What's worth copying is two other things. First, the test cadence of an app factory: open one account per category, launch, then concentrate paid installs over a day or two, check D1 retention and payments, stop if it doesn't work. The cost is the price of a few thousand installs. Second, the review section hands you a free map of what this category's users hate most: paywall hits within ten minutes, the AI forgets the plot, and the story library mixes languages.

Who it's for: small teams that already have an AI character chat base and can live with a paid-acquisition test cadence, using it as a negative example. If you really want to enter this niche, dissect Rendio and Dokichat instead. They're the ones that broke out this year and reached the top grossing charts. Your Guy is not the one to study.

Who it's not for: indie devs hoping a new "AI boyfriend" app will grow organically. Nobody knows you in this category, and there's no open slot waiting for you.

How to do it (if you still want in): find an audience or language competitors haven't covered well, such as local single-language romance readers, and do only that language's story library, but do it deep. Put the paywall after users have built an emotional connection, not at minute ten. Make plot memory the core feature, since that's the first thing users complain about.

How to acquire users: this category runs on paid acquisition. Spend a small budget over 1 to 2 days to test retention. For creatives, use vertical videos in first person from a female perspective, not store screenshots.

When to get in early: there's no rush. This niche has no window, only a price war and a creative war that never stops.

What would mean we got it wrong: if after mid-November Your Guy starts spiking every few days again, or enters the top grossing chart in any country, the factory's tests have passed and it's spending more. That's when it's worth looking again, at what its retention and payments are holding up.

Your Guy: AI Romance Soulmate (com.bfin.yourguy) research report

Channel: Google Play | Developer account: Novella Dream Labs | Launched: 2026-10-14 | Research date: 2026-11-06

Bottom line

It never really took off. This is a new developer alias from 3B / bfin, an AI app factory in Hanoi, Vietnam. It's a test app using the common "AI boyfriend with preset plot" formula. From 11-01 to 11-02, it got a burst of about 5,700 installs, then immediately fell back to roughly 28 per day. That "one spike and stop" curve, plus a rating of only 1 and 5 stars, looks much more like short-term paid acquisition (or install boosting) than organic growth. Its recall score of 72 was pushed up by that single day's install spike.

Source: googleplay library app_snap / app_day; 10-23 to 10-27 and 11-04 to 11-06 come from app_day_ext (AppstoreSpy estimates). On 11-06, the Play Store page shows a 3.9-star rating from 122 reviews, 5K+ downloads, "Contains ads + In-app purchases", Teen rating.

A few takeaways:

  • The install curve is a spike, not a slope. The first two weeks were 8 to 50 per day. 10-28 to 10-31 was about 300 per day, 11-01 to 11-02 about 2,870 per day, and from 11-04 it fell to about 28 per day.
  • The ratings don't add up. With 49 ratings, there are 1-star and 5-star ratings at 24 each, and not a single 2 or 4-star review. Installs were only 852 at that point, and the rating rate was close to 6% (normal apps are often around 1% or lower). On 11-01, installs didn't rise, yet 5-star reviews gained 22. Only 3 reviews include written text. This pattern looks like concentrated 5-star buying, offset by real users' 1-star ratings.
  • Chart performance is weak. It only charted in the free LIFESTYLE charts of various countries, ranking #106 to #197 (Sweden, South Africa, Argentina, Mexico, Poland, Spain, Netherlands). It never made the overall charts or the Top Grossing chart (chart_rank). So this install wave didn't come from chart exposure. AppBrain shows it charted in the France and Germany "New Free Lifestyle" charts (#9 in France), suggesting the ads and exposure were concentrated in Europe (https://www.appbrain.com/stats/google-play-rankings/top_new_free/lifestyle/fr).
  • In-app purchases range from $4.99 to $99.99, alongside ads. This is a typical "coins / gems + ads" monetization. Revenue can't be verified, and it hasn't charted on Top Grossing.

2. Who it is: a new alias from the Vietnamese 3B / bfin app factory

  • The privacy policy sits at api-yourguy.3bproductai.com. The developer email is a random gmail address ([email protected]). There's no official website (googleplay library app table).
  • 3bproductai.com is a generic "AI platform" site listing product lines like music, images, email, video, voice, and logo (https://3bproductai.com/). The Facebook page "3B AI Generator" lists an address in Hanoi (https://www.facebook.com/ai3bgenerator/).
  • The same group has several more accounts in our database (package name prefixes com.b3fin / com.bfin, privacy domains 3bfin.com / 3bmusic.ai):
    • AI Song & Lyric Generator (ai.aisong.lyric, developer "3B App AI", privacy privacy.3bfin.com): 840k installs, 2025-11 launched
    • 3B Music AI - Song Generator (com.b3fin.musicai, developer "3B AI App Center"): 186k installs
    • Fin Photo - AI Photo Editor (com.b3fin.finphoto, developer "Fin Studio"): 34k installs
    • There's also a "3B AI Melody Studio" account on Play, with apps like MyCover, Happy Farm, and Cooking Sweet (Jina search results).
  • The Novella Dream Labs account also has a "Ruby Fashion" app (from a Google Play developer page search snippet). This fits the factory playbook: one account per category, tested in bulk.
  • Its sibling apps also show a step-shaped install pattern, jumping every day or two (for example ai.aisong.lyric +10-31 and +5,206, 11-03 +6,634), which suggests this group keeps running paid acquisition continuously.

3. Growth tactics

Your Guy is just one "8,000-install test" in a crowded lane. Its hooks (CEO, bad boy, knight, childhood-friend archetypes + choice-driven story + unlockable images / memories) are nearly identical to Dokichat, Crushie, dotdotdot and Rendio, and the web-novel and short-drama "domineering CEO" archetype has been standard in this niche for a long time.

5. Differentiation

Almost none. If you insist, it's selling "AI boyfriend chat" and "romance interactive fiction" in one title, and using the CEO archetype from web novels to pull in romance readers. But that is the universal template for this whole niche over the past 2025 to 2026 years, not something unique to Your Guy, and it isn't why it grew. That growth came from paid ads, and it stopped once the spend did.

6. Visibility and copycats

  • Visibility: almost nobody knows about it. Revenue isn't public, and there's no press or X coverage or TikTok content. The only web presence is auto-generated pages on APK download sites.
  • Copycats: none. It is itself a copycat. The pioneers in the lane are Dokichat, Crushie, Rendio and others.

7. What others can borrow

  • A sample of the factory playbook: launch a disposable account in a category, buy 1 to 2 days of installs about two weeks after launch, check retention and payments, keep scaling if the numbers hold, stop if they don't. After 11-04, Your Guy dropped to 28 installs a day, most likely the test failed or it's waiting on data.
  • The real thing to study is Rendio, which already broke out in the same lane (launched 2026-07, 1.94M installs, charted on the India Top Grossing), and Dokichat (#14 on the Vietnam Top Grossing), not Your Guy.

8. What's uncertain

  • Whether those installs came from Google App Campaigns, Meta, incentivized offer walls or ASO boosting can't be confirmed; the Meta Ad Library shows nothing.
  • Whether the ratings were gamed can only be inferred from the distribution.
  • Whether the spend stopped because the test failed or the creatives were paused needs data from after 11-08.
  • Whether there's an iOS version isn't verified (the iTunes search API wasn't responding at the time).
  • Revenue unknown; it never charted on any top-grossing list.
