# Two hours on mic a day, $8 in the first seven days: how Minemo reached 590k installs in two months

**What it is** A voice-room social app for Africa and Southeast Asia. Users join rooms, go on mic, and send private messages, and hosts earn money as users buy coins to send them gifts.

**Why it took off** New hosts could earn about $8 a day after 7 days of 2 hours on mic. Side-hustle tutorials in Nigeria, Ghana, and the Philippines, and host guilds with invite codes, pushed it hard. Hosts bring people, and people in rooms send gifts.

**D** **How you could follow** Not recommended as a copy. What's worth learning is the cold-start approach: pay for the supply side of a two-sided market, make rewards low-threshold and withdrawable, then hand promotion to local promoters through invite-code commissions.

Grade D: It is itself a re-skin, one of a dozen-plus voice-room clones, and the category leaders have tens of millions of installs. The push came from cash used to fund host rewards, existing guild networks, and a re-skin pipeline. A small team can't replicate that, and the same developer's previous brand dropped off every chart within two and a half months. Chatter within small circles

Minemo is a voice-room social app. It launched on Google Play in Sep 11 and reached 590k installs by Nov 6, peaking at #8 in South Africa's social grossing chart. Its product is identical to dozens of voice-room apps on the market. What made it run was the old playbook of the voice-room industry: pay people to become hosts, then have those hosts recruit users with invite codes. Below: how this playbook works, where the money came from, why it's already declining, and whether you should follow it.

### Oct 2: someone asks on Threads, "Is this real?"

Oct 2: a Threads user posted a screenshot of Minemo and asked Meta AI, "is this legit?" The screenshot said 20M points could be exchanged for $20.

Meta AI's answer was plain: "It's a real app, not a fake screenshot, but you have to grind." According to the algorithm circulating online, going on mic 2 hours a day and completing tasks earns about 1.14M points a day, and it takes over two weeks to cash out $20. Withdrawals require face verification and a fee of 2% or more. The last line: "Treat it as a part-time host job, not free money, and don't pay anyone for a 'guild code'."

That conversation sums up Minemo's business pretty well. A large share of its users aren't there to chat. They're there to work.

### What it is

A voice-room app for Africa and Southeast Asia: enter rooms to listen, sing, and play mini-games, go on mic, send private messages and voice notes, and send virtual gifts to people you like. The store listing promises "bright, relaxed voice social", with an orange "citrus" palette and a few mascots as selling points. Levels, avatar frames, VIP badges, and entrance effects are all there, the usual voice-room standards (minemolive.com).

The money comes from gifts. Users buy coins to send gifts, priced from $0.99 to $199.99 (Google Play in-app prices). Hosts receive gifts and earn points from tasks, and the points convert to cash.

The developer is Grizzly Machinery LLC, which holds 11 Android apps. One of them, a small game called Cloud Parcel Drop, has only 10 downloads (chrome-stats). The package names are com.biao.*, the privacy policy sits on an H5 page, and the contact email is a personal Gmail. It looks like an account used to publish apps in bulk, most likely run by a Chinese going-global voice-room team (inferred, unverified).

### How fast it grew, and how it's declining

| | Metric | Sources |
|---|---|---|
| Installs | 10-29 was 509k, 11-06 was 590k, and 8 days later it was up 81k, about 10k a day on average | Google Play,11-06 |
| Rating | In 8 days, it went from 1,978 to 2,218 reviews | Same as above |
| Charts | Charted in 13 countries and regions; #11 in South Africa's social grossing (best #8), #23 in Hong Kong, #26 in the Philippines, #34 in Nigeria | Google Play,11-06 |
| South Africa overall grossing | Fell from #107 to #120 | Same as above |
| Launched | 2026-09-11, version has stayed at 1.1.2 | Store page |

The numbers look like they're rising, but nearly every chart is falling: in the Philippines, social grossing dropped 18 places to 26; in Saudi Arabia, 81 to 111; in Italy, 68 to 89. On the free chart, Saudi Arabia fell from 72 to 137 and the UAE from 51 to 100 (Google Play, 10-29 to 11-06). Its steepest climb probably ended before late October (inferred).

Ratings are also splitting toward both ends. In 8 days, one-star reviews rose from 349 to 466 and five-star from 1,279 to 1,400, while three- and four-star stayed at only 58 each. By star distribution, the average fell from 3.85 to 3.76. The two top "helpful" reviews on the store page say "downloads are faster and more stable now" and "it used to sync every time you opened it, and stopping a record takes several seconds". Neither has anything to do with voice rooms. They look like template reviews copied from another app, each with about 70 to over 100 "helpful" votes. The top negative review that rose to the front says:

> "I'm really disappointed with Minemo. Withdrawals are broken, and I can't convert points into gold coins. To unlock points-to-gold, you have to spend 150M gold coins playing games first. People who grind points for ages expect the app to work. If these problems don't get fixed, what's the point of using it?" (Google Play, 150 people found this helpful)

### Where users come from: pay hosts first, then have hosts recruit people

**Step one: buy hosts.** New hosts get 7 days of rewards. Each day they go live on mic for 2 hours and finish tasks, and they earn a new-host bonus of about $7.98. An Instagram recruitment post reads "NEW HOST REWARD: first 7 days, 2 hours on mic (490k points per hour)." $8 in Nigeria, Ghana, the Philippines or India is enough to get many people to talk into their phones for two hours a day.

**Step two: agencies distribute the recruiting.** Voice-room hosts mostly sit under agencies. Agency heads recruit members, members recruit more members, and everyone has an invite code. On Facebook, an agency called Infinity Agency posted its "new host reward" rules followed by a string of app.minemolive.com/invite links. The Philippine agency Minoz Philippines showed off 16 members signed up. Others posted "JOIN MY MINEMO AGENCY" and told people to download, register, then join their agency.

**Step three: "make money online" tutorials.** A batch of YouTube side-hustle channels covers it. Side Hustle Plug's "New App Alert: I Tested Minemo For 2 Weeks" (posted Oct 12) got 1,720 views. It covers new-host rewards, invite referral payouts, red packets and host verification, ends with the creator's own invite code, agency ID and Telegram group, and pitches Minemo as a replacement for Glow Live. Earn with FAITH's review got about 5,000 views. On Oct 28, another video, "Another app paying new hosts $7.98", went up. There are also tutorials in Ghanaian, Cebuano (Philippines) and Bodo (India) languages. Every video carries its author's own invite code, meaning the tutorial makers are themselves referral promoters earning commissions.

**Earlier seeds.** Less than two weeks after launch, in September 23–24, Nigerian users were posting on Facebook: "Minemo is a new app just launched, download with my ID" and "Pure voice chat, no camera, no pressure." In this circle, "newbie launch app" (a newly launched app with the biggest new-user rewards) is itself a traffic source. Hosts from older platforms likely came over to collect a round of new-host rewards (inferred).

Along the way, it got almost no media coverage, no discussion on X, and only scattered personal posts on TikTok. Its acquisition cost isn't ad spend; it's the points paid to hosts and agencies. There's no evidence it ran ads on Meta or TikTok, but not finding evidence doesn't mean it didn't.

### Where the money comes from

The hosts are bought, and paying users are drawn in by the hosts. When there are real people chatting and singing in rooms, some people will pay to send gifts and buy entrance effects. It ranked in the top 11 of South Africa's social Top Grossing and reached the top 107 of South Africa's overall Top Grossing. Hong Kong, the Philippines and Nigeria social Top Grossing charts also had it in the top 40, so people are clearly paying. But actual revenue, and the ratio between payouts to hosts and gift income, can't be seen from outside.

The other side of this business is withdrawals. The more generous the new-host rewards, the tighter the squeeze afterward: face verification, fees, and having to spend gold on games before points can be converted. Once rewards drop off and withdrawal complaints pile up, one-star reviews rise and the charts fall.

### It's not the first, and it won't be the last

Voice rooms are among the most crowded categories in global social apps, and Minemo is small within it.

| Product | Scale | How Minemo differs |
|---|---|---|
| SUGO | 81.1M installs, #3 on Thailand social Top Grossing | Veteran leader, same features, two orders of magnitude bigger |
| Chamet | 78.4M installs, #2 on UAE social Top Grossing | Voice plus video, focused on the Middle East |
| Poppo Live | 47.9M installs, #3 on South Africa social Top Grossing | Same market, ranked ahead of Minemo |
| Timo Lite | Listed 2026-09-30, 730k installs, up 350k in 7 days | A same-period clone launched at the same time, pushing volume harder than Minemo |
| Tello | Launched 2026-05, 1.22M installs, #5 on Philippines social Top Grossing | Same generation of new apps, about twice the scale |
| TakaLite / Taka | 6.93M installs, #10 on South Africa social Top Grossing | Targets South Africa and the Philippines too, and has been doing it longer |
| Saaky, Lakki, Zugo and others | Launched 2026 years ago, from tens of thousands to over a million installs | Same batch, same playbook |
| Melola (same developer) | Launched 2026-08-20, 110k installs | The previous clone, already off every chart |

(Install counts and rankings from Google Play, 11-06.)

Melola is the best reference point. Same developer account, same template: launched Aug 20, and YouTube had the same "new-host reward $7.5" tutorials. Two and a half months after launch, by early November it was adding only a thousand or two installs a day, and it had dropped off every chart. A month later, the same account launched Minemo. This isn't one product. It's a pipeline that swaps the skin every few weeks, collecting one round of "new app, new-host reward" each time.

### If it were you

**Verdict (D)** : understand the playbook, don't copy it. Minemo is itself the dozenth-plus follower, behind veterans like SUGO and Poppo with tens of millions of installs, and beside same-period clones like Timo Lite and Tello. It works because of cash to pay hosts, a ready-made agency network, and a team that can swap the skin and relaunch every few weeks. Independent developers and small teams don't have any of that. Even its own previous clone lasted only two and a half months.

**Who it suits** : teams already running overseas voice-room or live-streaming products, with agency resources, a gift system, withdrawal and payment rails, a content moderation team, and cash on hand to front host rewards. For them it's just another skin swap.

**Who it doesn't suit** : anyone hoping to win on product experience (this category's users aren't retained by the product; they're retained by money and people); teams without local payment and withdrawal capabilities; anyone wary of store policies and payment risk controls (points-to-cash, template reviews, withdrawal disputes can each put an account at risk).

**What you can learn is the cold-start method** : when a two-sided marketplace starts, pay to acquire supply first, and make the rewards low-barrier, short-cycle and withdrawable. Then hand promotion to people who earn a cut via referral codes, and pay for results. The logic transfers to other two-sided products, such as platforms that need sparring partners, answerers, voice actors or data labelers: in countries where labor is cheap, pay to recruit the first wave of supply.

**How to acquire users (if you still want to do it)** : follow its path. Start in the "make money online" circles in Nigeria, Ghana and the Philippines. Find agency heads on Facebook and side-hustle YouTube channels with a few thousand views, give them a cut for invite codes, and skip hard-selling ads.

**When is "before"** : windows for apps like this are measured in weeks. New-host rewards are most attractive in the first month after launch. Minemo has been live for nearly two months and is already on the downslope.

**What would show this read is wrong** : (1) Minemo is still in the top 20 of South Africa's and the Philippines' social Top Grossing by mid-December, with more than 50k new installs a week, which would mean this playbook has a much longer lifecycle than Melola's; (2) a small team uses the same "pay hosts" approach to build traction in a country or language (say, a local African language) that voice-room products haven't yet worked, without a large cash float up front.

## Why Minemo - Voice Chat & Friends (com.biao.minemo) took off

> Channel: Google Play · Developer Grizzly Machinery LLC · Store launch 2026-09-11 · Research date 2026-11-06

### Bottom line

Minemo is a standard overseas "voice room + gifting" social app. It took off **not because of the product** , but because of the old playbook of the voice-room industry: **pay people to be "hosts"** . New hosts get 7 days of rewards: 2 hours on mic per day plus tasks earns about $7.98 in new-host bonuses. This spread through agencies, invite codes, and "make money online / side hustle" Facebook posts and YouTube tutorials in Nigeria, Ghana, the Philippines, India and elsewhere. Large numbers of people looking for extra income came to install it themselves. With hosts in place, the rooms have life, paying users send gifts inside them (IAP $0.99–$199.99), and that's where the money comes back. The same developer account used the same playbook a month earlier with sister app Melola, suggesting a team that mass-produces voice-room apps.

### 1. Data (our googleplay library, 2026-10-29 to 11-06)

- **Installs** : 509,032 (10-29) rose to 590,124 (11-06), about 8k new installs over 81 days, averaging about 10k a day. Single-observation increments were +28,157 (10-31), +36,412 (11-03), +7,921 (11-05), +8,602 (11-06) (app_day). Within less than 2 months of launch it reached about 590k.

- **Ratings** : 1,978 rose to 2,218, adding +20~38 ratings a day, but only 18–20 have written text (app_snap.written_reviews). The star distribution went from [1★349, 2★232, 3★58, 4★58, 5★1279] to [466, 233, 58, 58, 1400]. 1-star ratings grew faster than 5-star, and the average fell from 3.85 to 3.76. 3 and 4-star counts are unusually low, with ratings polarized at both ends, which fits a "task-driven + withdrawal grievances" pattern (inferred, not verified). The version has stayed at 1.1.2.

- **Charts** : charted in 13 stores. Category rankings on the Top Grossing charts are all trending down:
    - South Africa social Top Grossing: 8 → 11; overall Top Grossing: 107 → 120
    - Philippines social top grossing: 18 → 26
    - Vietnam: 41 → 49
    - Saudi Arabia: 81 → 111
    - Italy: 68 → 89
    - Hong Kong has been bouncing between 11–156, latest is 23
    - Top Free is slipping too: Saudi Arabia 72 → 137, UAE 51 → 100
    - Bottom line: by the time we started tracking (10-29), it had most likely already passed its peak momentum.

- **Sister app Melola - Voice Chat Party (com.biao.melola)** : same developer, launched 2026-08-20. At 10-29 it had 107k installs, at 11-03 it had 111k, growing only about 1–2k a day, and it's no longer charted anywhere (app_profile.n_countries_now=0). The playbook is identical: YouTube has videos like "Melola App Tutorial: Create Account, Start Earning & $7.5 Newbie Reward".

- **Developer fingerprints** :
    - Package prefix com.biao.* (pinyin "biao").
    - Privacy policies hosted on the H5 pages at h5.minemolive.com / h5.melolachat.com.
    - Both apps list personal Gmail addresses as contact (one with a Vietnamese name).
    - chrome-stats shows Grizzly Machinery LLC has 11 Android apps under it, including small games like Cloud Parcel Drop with only 10+ downloads (appbrain).
    - Speculation: a developer account being used to mass-publish apps, most likely a Chinese going-global voice-room team (unverified).

### 2. Competitors

Voice rooms are a very crowded category, and Minemo is small within it. The data below is from the googleplay library: social-category apps with "voice room" in the description, as of 2026-11-06:

| Product | Launched | Installs / 7-day new | Best rank | How Minemo differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SUGO: Voice Chat Party | 2021-06 | 81.1M / +390k | Thailand social top grossing #3 | Veteran incumbent, two orders of magnitude bigger |
| Chamet | 2019-11 | 78.4M / +178k | UAE social Top Grossing #2 | Video + voice, top in the Middle East |
| Poppo Live | 2022-05 | 47.9M / +420k | South Africa social top grossing #3 | Ranks ahead of Minemo on the South Africa top grossing chart |
| Timo Club / Timo Lite(FAST WALL) | 2023-03 / 2026-09-30 | 51.7M; Lite 730k / +350k | Philippines social top free #9 | Lite is a same-period clone that's pushing growth harder than Minemo |
| TakaLite / Taka | 2025-03 | 6.93M / +180k | South Africa social top grossing #10 | Same South Africa and Philippines focus, built on hosts |
| Tello(Devprof) | 2026-05 | 1.22M / +72k | Philippines social top grossing #5 | Launched in the same wave, twice the scale |
| Hala, Yaahlan, Layla, SoulChill, YoHo, Saada | 2019–2024 | Millions to tens of millions | Middle East / Turkey top grossing | Targets Arabic-speaking Middle East; Minemo targets Africa and Southeast Asia |
| Saaky, Lakki, Zugo, Afami | 2026-03 to 07 | 4–1.26M | Top grossing / top free in small regions | Same batch of similar new apps |
| Glow Live(iOS / Android) | Earlier | Not in library | — | The benchmark in the Nigeria and Philippines "earn by going on mic" scene. On YouTube, Minemo gets introduced as a "Glow Live alternative". |

**Bottom line** : The product shape is no different from these competitors: voice rooms, DMs, gifts, levels, entrance effects, guilds. The official site only lists "Voice Party / Discover Friends / Casual Games / Private Chat", plus VIP badges, avatar frames, and entrance effects (minemolive.com). The only real difference is the orange "citrus" color scheme and the mascot.

### 3. Where users came from (growth tactics)

1. **New host rewards + guild recruitment (confirmed, main channel)**
    - A Facebook post reads "MINEMO VOICE PARTY ✨ INFINITY AGENCY ✨ NEW HOST REWARDS (First 7 Days) OnMic 2 hr": reach 2M points in your first 7 days and you can cash out. The post includes several app.minemolive.com/invite/v2?r=… invite links (facebook.com/kayeann1608, about 5 weeks ago).
    - An Instagram post reads: "NEW HOST REWARD: (First 7 Days) 2hr OnMic (490k per hr)".
    - The Minoz Philippines guild posted 16 members joining. Another post, "JOIN MY MINEMO AGENCY", walks people through it: download, register, then contact me to join the guild.
    - Meta AI's reply to a debunk thread on Threads spells out the math: 20M points = $20; going on mic 2 hours a day plus tasks gets you roughly 1.14M points a day, so $20 takes over 2 weeks; you also need face verification, and withdrawals carry a 2%+ fee. The quote: "treat it like a hosting job".

2. **"Make money online" YouTube / Facebook tutorials (confirmed)**
    - "New App Alert: I Tested Minemo For 2 Weeks" (Side Hustle Plug, 2026-10-12,1,719 views): the video covers newbie tasks worth about $7.98, invite contests, red packets, host verification, and guild sign-up, with invite code LHUV17, guild ID 52940192, and a Telegram group.
    - "Minemo App Review (2026)" (Earn with FAITH, about 5,075 views).
    - "Another App That Rewards New Hosts $7.98 + $400 Free Spin" (AI Mastery Tutorial, 2026-10-28).
    - "Can You Actually Make Money on the MineMo App in Ghana?"
    - Several withdrawal tutorials, plus tutorials in Cebuano (Philippines) and Bodo (Assam, India).
    - Every video carries its creator's own invite code, meaning the tutorial makers are themselves guild or referral promoters driving sign-ups.

3. **Old-user referrals / invite codes (confirmed)** : The product has "invite-and-win" and red packets. On Facebook, Nigerian users started posting from September 23–24, e.g. "Minemo is a newbie launch app join download use my ID 8UEC2C" (520 views), and "voice-only streaming app… no camera, no pressure". Burmese-language TikTok also has posts with invite links.

4. **Competitor host migration (inferred, indirect evidence)** : Tutorials position it as an alternative to Glow Live. A new app's biggest host rewards come in its first few weeks, so people who earn by going on mic in voice rooms move over from older platforms to "catch the newbie rewards" (the "newbie launch app" pitch).

5. **Paid acquisition** : No evidence found. The Meta Ad Library only tracks keywords for tool categories, so not finding ads doesn't mean there were none. Searching minemo on X (x-radar) returns 0 posts. TikTok has only scattered personal posts, with no creator campaigns.

### 4. Why it took off / where the money came from

- **The supply side (hosts) is bought** : Low-barrier, visible cash rewards like "go on mic 2 hours a day, earn about $8 in your first 7 days" target Nigeria, Ghana, the Philippines, and India, where labor is cheap. For locals it's a "zero-investment side gig", and they go find it on Facebook and YouTube and pass it along themselves.

- **Guilds distribute it layer by layer** : Hosts recruit hosts, guild leaders recruit members, everyone has an invite code, and everyone has a reason to post tutorials. The growth cost becomes points paid to hosts and guilds instead of ad spend.

- **The demand side (paying users)** : Rooms full of real hosts chatting attract people who want social interaction and will spend on gifts. South Africa social top grossing #8–11, and Hong Kong / Philippines / Nigeria top grossing ranks in the top 40 suggest real payment flow (exact amounts not verified). Gift price tiers range from $0.99 to $199.99.

- **Timing** : Newbie rewards are richest during the cold-start period, and "new earn-money app" is a traffic magnet in side hustle circles. Once rewards taper and withdrawal complaints pile up (1-star reviews are growing, with store comments like "payment issue, unable to exchange points for coins"), rankings slide. Melola has already gone through that cycle.

### 5. Differentiation

**Almost no product differentiation.** Its features match SUGO, Poppo, Timo, Taka, and Tello, built from the same template. The real differences are operational:

- It picked **South Africa, Nigeria, the Philippines, and Hong Kong** , regions the Middle East incumbents haven't saturated, rather than the Middle East or Turkey.

- It uses **new-app newbie host rewards** to harvest traffic from the "earn money app" crowd.

What made it chart is this distribution playbook plus the money spent on rewards, not the product itself.

### 6. How many people are seeing it / copying it

- **Visibility** : It only circulates in the small "make money online / host guild" circles (Facebook posts, YouTube videos with a few thousand views, Telegram groups). No media coverage, no discussion on X, no public revenue, and it's not on TrustMRR. Gridinsoft gives app.minemolive.com a trust score of only 35/100.

- **Copycats** : it's a copycat itself. The same batch includes Timo Lite(2026-09-30), Tello(2026-05), Saaky(2026-06), Lakki(2026-07), Zugo, and Melola from the same company, all running the same playbook.

### 7. What others can learn

- When a two-sided marketplace is cold-starting, **pay to acquire supply first** (streamers), and make the rewards low-threshold, short-cycle, and cashable. Then outsource promotion to agencies and tutorial creators who take a cut of invite codes, so acquisition cost is paid on results.

- "Matrix launching": same developer account, same codebase, new skin. Every few weeks a new app goes up and rides another round of "new app, new user bonus" traffic. Melola (August) was followed by Minemo (September) this way.

- Risks: these apps have very short lifespans (Melola dropped off every chart two and a half months after launch). Withdrawal disputes and rating declines show up fast, and store policy and payment channels are also risks.

### 8. Still unclear

- Real revenue, and the ratio of streamer cost to gift income.

- Team background: who is behind the shell LLC, and are there more skins (chrome-stats says this account has 11 apps; our database only has 2).

- Whether they buy on Meta / TikTok can't be checked in this database.

- How many of the ratings were prompted by task-based incentives.

- We recorded the chart peak before tracking began (10-29).
