"Cash 100 only buys 12 sentences": how a video chat companion app with just 8k installs squeezed into the top 40 of the Hong Kong grossing chart
What it is A 1v1 video companion app for Chinese-speaking men in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Chat and video are both billed per minute in coins, with single in-app purchases up to $204.99.
Why it took off The entertainment grossing chart on Google Play in Hong Kong has a low bar. A one-minute video is about $3, so a small number of heavy spenders can carry the ranking. The same backend and hosts rotate across several shell packages: when an old package is sunk by bad reviews, a new one with a lucky name takes over the billing.
DHow you could follow Small teams shouldn't copy this. What's transferable is the pattern: small markets like Hong Kong and Taiwan have a low bar for grossing charts, so turn high-priced live human services (Cantonese conversation practice, consulting, fortune telling, and so on) into a proper product in traditional Chinese and Cantonese. Offer the first few minutes free, price transparently, and use Google Play search with a small ad budget.

Android · Total installs worldwide Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.
Fuban (福伴) is a 1v1 video companion app billed per minute in coins. It's listed only on Google Play in Hong Kong and Taiwan, has 8,327 installs in total, and ranks #32 on the Hong Kong entertainment grossing chart. It's not really a standalone product. It's the same template under a new name, another package after Fusu, Banliao, Fuyu, and Lucky7. Below: what it sells, why so few people can hold up a ranking, how the playbook works, and whether you should follow it.
A review that copied out the price list
On Nov 14 2025, someone on the Hong Kong Google Play store gave 福訴 (the "big brother" of 福伴) a one-star review and copied out its price list line by line:
A one-minute call costs 200 coins… a one-minute video costs 300 coins; messages, voice, photos, and videos are all 25 coins; topping up NT$100 gets you about 300 coins. In other words, with cash 100 you can only say 12 sentences.
That review got 38 "helpful" votes. By its prices, one minute of video chat is about 100 New Taiwan dollars, a bit over $3 (estimate). Other top-voted reviews under Fusu say the same thing: "You have to top up after a few sentences" (71 helpful votes), "The girls are all from mainland China… men's top-up money all goes to the girls, known as 'performance'" (42), "The girls inside are all staff pretending or AI" (Google Play Hong Kong reviews, 2024-10 to 2026-07).
Fuban itself has no ratings and no reviews. It was listed in Jul 2026 28 under a different developer name, and its reputation started from zero. That's the reason it exists.
What it is: one template, a lucky name, another launch
Put it side by side with several similarly named apps and the common origin shows: the privacy agreement pages all sit under "oss.<some random domain>/h5/agreement/<package>/privacy.html", with only the domain changing per package. Each package has a different developer name and a random gmail address. The in-app purchase ceilings all fall between $109.99 and $204.99. Several packages were updated on the same day in Aug 2026 7.

(Google Play install counts and chart positions, 11-06)
One detail: Lucky7's package name is com.chatclub.fuban, and its agreement directory is fuBan; Fuban's agreement directory is FuBanOver. It looks like the name "Fuban" was originally used in the Lucky7 package, and a new package later took it over (inferred).
8 thousand people, how it holds a grossing chart
Fuban's installs have grown slowly: Oct 29 7,756, Nov 6 8,327, +571 in one week, and they move in steps (10-31 +255, 11-03 +207, with 0 on the days in between). The grossing rank is steadier, though: on the Hong Kong entertainment grossing chart it climbed from #39 to #29 (11-03) and is now #32. On the Taiwan entertainment free chart it rose from #198 to #158 (Google Play charts, 10-29 to 11-06).
Few installs and a stable ranking mean the money comes from a small group of heavy payers. Three things add up:
- Low bar. In Hong Kong's Google Play Entertainment Top Grossing, it sits around #30. Ahead of it are Disney+, short dramas, and AI companions, and the revenue needed to climb further is modest.
- High per-payer spend. Video is billed per minute, about $3 a minute (estimated), with in-app purchases up to $204.99. A few people chatting for a few hours a week is enough to hold the ranking.
- Catching the old app's users. The backend and the hosts are the same, so when an older app gets buried by bad reviews or banned, paying users and hosts can move to a new one. Fuban was published about 7 weeks before reaching 2,500 installs (third-party estimate, 09-17), far faster than a new app starting from zero (inference: the migration can't be confirmed from outside).
Where users come from
Only two things are visible: the matrix itself, and the Chinese keywords in the store listing. The title is localized as 「福伴」, and the short description packs in 「視訊社交」「暖心陪伴」. Its climb on the Taiwan free chart points to some organic search traffic.
Installs come in bursts, which looks like small budgets rolled out in batches (inferred). Searching "福伴 視訊" on TikTok only turns up overseas Chinese dating traffic accounts (#华人 #交友, "like if you like the handsome guy" style posts) and nothing that names 福伴 directly. Nobody has mentioned it on X in the last 60 days, and there's no media coverage.
Who it's competing with
Its sibling apps on the same template are the most direct rivals, and they're still shipping new ones. Fuyue, published by September, grew 2,345 in a week, the fastest-growing app in this batch.
Beyond this matrix, there are several local players in HK/TW video dating that have grown big: Taiwan's 「聊天吧」 (published 2019, 330k installs, #1 in Taiwan's Dating Top Grossing and #38 overall, with a web top-up page); the voice social app TataLand 他TA星球 (about 700k installs, #2 in Taiwan's Social Top Grossing); and Hong Kong's Moko Live (180k installs). Azar and OmeTV, global random-video platforms, are far bigger, but they don't sell paid coin-based companion chats.
Looking further, this model is a mature category in mainland China: 1v1 video dating, with plenty of copycats on Tencent's and Wandoujia's app stores. This matrix is essentially copying the domestic model as-is and collecting payments on Google Play in HK and Taiwan.
If it were you
Verdict: worth knowing about, not recommended for copying. Fuban has nothing new on the product side. It runs because of a supply chain followers can't easily get: a pool of hosts who will chat by the minute, a ready-made backend, and a batch of developer accounts that can be swapped out at will. Without those, a copycat app has no one to chat with, and so no one pays.
Who it suits: teams already running 1v1 video dating in mainland China, with host agencies and their own backend. For them, Fuban shows that in small markets like Hong Kong and Taiwan, the Top Grossing bar is low enough that a few thousand installs can reach the top 40, and a new app with a lucky-sounding name can keep the model alive.
Who it doesn't suit: indie developers and small teams without host supply. Many reviews say 「騙錢」 (it's a scam) and 「AI 假人」 (AI fake people). Google's policies and local laws make this category high-risk, and accounts can be banned at any time.
The real takeaway: in small regions and language markets, the Top Grossing bar is low. A model with high per-payer spend plus a small, very targeted user base can chart without hundreds of thousands of installs. The same logic applies to legitimate categories: paid consulting, practice partners, language exchange, fortune-telling, or human coaching in Cantonese or Traditional Chinese. Before deciding whether it's worth building, check how much revenue it takes to reach #30 in the matching category on the HK and TW Google Play Top Grossing charts.
How to acquire users (if you're building a legitimate version): write the store title and short description in Traditional Chinese and Cantonese to capture HK and TW Play search traffic. Run small batched campaigns on Meta and TikTok targeting Chinese-speaking men in HK and TW, with creative that says 「real people, instant, someone to talk to」. Make the first few minutes free, which speaks directly to the most common complaint in reviews: 「聊兩句就要儲值」 (you have to top up after two sentences).
Window: no clear window. This matrix has been running for over two years, and as long as Google doesn't tighten enforcement, it will keep shipping new reskinned apps.
What would mean you read it wrong:
- If Fuban or its sibling apps are pulled in bulk within a few months, this playbook's shelf life is shorter than it looks, and it's not worth touching.
- If a well-reviewed human companion app appears in HK or TW (rated above 4 stars, with transparent pricing) and also breaks into the Entertainment Top Grossing top 40, that shows the 「do it properly」 path also makes money and is worth a serious look.
- If Fuban's installs pass tens of thousands while its rank climbs into the top 10, that means it isn't just absorbing old users. There's an acquisition channel behind it that followers could replicate, and it's worth revisiting.

- Inference taking over paying users and hosts from older apps: Fusu's reviews are full of one-star 「騙錢」 complaints, so new apps are needed to keep it going. Fuban reached 2,500 installs about 7 weeks after launch and quickly entered the HK Entertainment Top Grossing top 40 (presumably through migration).
- Inference paid acquisition / Chinese dating traffic accounts: installs rise in small steps (10-31 +255, 11-03 +207). TikHub only surfaced general Chinese dating traffic accounts, with no content pointing directly to Fuban. Ad libraries don't track this kind of product.

Why Fuban Fuban (com.blessedmate.fabian) can run

Bottom line
Fuban is not an independent product. It's a new shell in a Chinese 1v1 paid video companion white-label matrix. The matrix targets Chinese-speaking men in Hong Kong and Taiwan (plus Malaysia and Singapore), using the same backend and the same protocol pages at 「oss.<random domain>/h5/agreement/<package name>/privacy.html」. Each app sits under a different shell developer account, with random gmail contact addresses. With only 8,327 installs, it still reached #29–39 on the HK Entertainment Top Grossing chart, for three reasons: the HK Play Entertainment Top Grossing bar is low; per-payer spend (ARPPU) in coin-based video companion chats is very high; and its users came from older apps that were banned or buried by bad reviews, plus paid acquisition. It has no product differentiation. It runs because of distribution and the reskin playbook.

The key point: installs grow slowly (a few hundred a week), yet the ranking holds steady in the top 40 of HK Entertainment. The money comes from a small group of heavy payers, not from mass acquisition.
2. Competitors: sibling apps on the same matrix, plus outside peers
In our database, there are 12 apps whose privacy link follows the oss.*/h5/agreement/<name>/privacy.html format. 8 of them are clearly the same Chinese video companion template (googleplay.app, 2026-11-06):

Common traits: the names all follow the "Fu X / X Ban" lucky-word pattern; each package has a different developer name and a gmail address (Fuban's is [email protected]); the protocol pages sit on different random domains (gghook.com, ykisi.com, hnfchuang.cn, hnyouok.com, wotenn.cn, wenhainn.com…), but the path structure is identical; in-app purchase caps are all $109.99–$204.99; in July through August several packages updated on the same day (FuSu, Lucky7, BanLiao all on 2026-08-07).
Fuban's relationship to Lucky7: Lucky7's package name is com.chatclub.fuban, and its protocol directory is fuBan; Fuban's protocol directory is FuBanOver. It looks like the Fuban brand originally lived inside the Lucky7 package, and was later carried over by a new package (inferred, not verified).
External peers (Hong Kong and Taiwan Chinese-language 1v1 video companionship):
- 聊天吧 / taipeigirl (com.artemis.tpgirl, listed 2019, 330k installs, Taiwan Social Top Grossing #1, overall Top Grossing #38): a long-running Taiwanese local brand with an official website top-up page and a much larger user base.
- TataLand 他TA星球 (700k installs, Taiwan Social Top Grossing #2, overall Top Grossing #11): voice social, an order of magnitude bigger.
- Moko Live (180k installs, Hong Kong Social Top Grossing #17): Cantonese streamers, live video plus video calls.
- Azar (290M installs, Hong Kong Communication Top Grossing #10), OmeTV: global random-video giants that don't do Chinese-language companionship.
- Mainland China has a large number of similar apps (Meiban, Yueban video, Qipao Chat, etc., found on Tencent's App Store and Wandoujia), and it is a mature 1v1 video-dating category there; this matrix is essentially that playbook moved onto the Hong Kong and Taiwan Google Play stores.
3. Growth tactics
- Matrix reskins and empty developer accounts (confirmed): see the table above. The same template sits under at least 6–8 different developer names, with each package getting its own protocol domain. When one package gets bad reviews or is banned, a new shell is listed and users and hosts are redirected to it. Fusu has 245 ratings averaging 3.3 stars, and recent reviews are almost all one-star: "Didn't chat 3 sentences before it asked me to top up", "Video is 300 coins per minute, calls 200 coins per minute… a top-up of NT$100 gets about 300 coins", "they're all from the mainland… straight video calls to drain your coins", "the girls are staff pretending, or AI" (googleplay.review, hk, 2025-11 to 2026-09). With reputation this bad, the only option is to keep swapping in new packages.
- Paid acquisition / social traffic (inferred): the install curve rises in small steps (10-31 +255, 11-03 +207, preceded by 0), consistent with small budgets spent in batches. A TikHub search for "福伴 視訊" only turned up overseas Chinese dating traffic accounts posting "#Chinese #dating" and "give a like if you like the bro", with no content pointing directly to Fuban. Meta and TikTok ad libraries don't track this kind of product, so nothing shows up.
- Store keywords: the store page title is localized to "福伴", and the short description stuffs in "video social, warm companionship"; on the Taiwan Entertainment free chart it climbed from #198 to #158, picking up a bit of organic search traffic.
- TikTok, X, media: x-radar shows 0 posts mentioning "福伴" over the past 60 days; a Jina search only found Fusu pages on APK download sites, with no media coverage.
4. Why it can break out
- Low chart barrier: around #30 on the Hong Kong Google Play Entertainment Top Grossing chart, the apps ahead are Disney+, short dramas, and AI companions, and the revenue bar behind them isn't high; a small number of paying users is enough to squeeze in.
- High ARPPU: coins are deducted by the minute, and the top single in-app purchase is $204.99. Fusu's reviews spell out the prices: video costs 300 coins per minute, roughly NT$100. A few heavy users topping up in a week can hold up a Top Grossing ranking.
- Carrying over the matrix's old users and hosts: same backend, same pool of hosts; a new package can absorb paying users churning from an old one as soon as it launches. Within about 7 weeks of listing, Fuban had 2,500 installs and quickly entered the top 40 on the Hong Kong chart.
- Only Hong Kong and Taiwan Chinese, avoiding mainland regulation, collecting payments through Google Play: Fusu's reviews say the hosts are "all from the mainland"; the model is exactly the same as domestic 1v1 video dating, just moved to an overseas Play store to collect money.
5. Differentiation
There's no product-level differentiation. It's the same template as Fusu, Banliao, Fuyu, and Lucky7, with only the name and icon changed. What actually sets it apart is the playbook: targeting only the Hong Kong and Taiwan Chinese-language Play markets, running a matrix of short-lived shell packages with lucky-word names, and giving each package its own protocol domain. The reason it works is this playbook, not the Fuban package itself.
6. Visibility and copycats
- Visibility: few people know about it yet. Revenue is not public, there's no media coverage, and x-radar shows 0 posts; in the store it only appears alongside its sibling packages.
- Copycats: it's itself a copycat in the same matrix; the same matrix 2026-09 also launched Fuyue (com.simichat.whisper, +2,345 installs in 7 days, the fastest riser in this batch).
7. What to borrow
- Chart barriers are low for minority-language and small-region Top Grossing charts; a high-ARPPU payment model combined with a precise small audience lets an app enter the chart with only 8 thousand installs.
- The matrix of shell accounts plus a separate protocol domain per package hedges against bad reviews and bans; users and hosts migrate from old packages to new ones.
- But the reputation of this model is close to a scam (reviews are full of "scam", "AI fake people"), it carries Google policy risk and legal risk, and copying it is not recommended.
8. Still unclear
- Who actually runs it (reviews point to a mainland team; the entities behind each shell company are unverified).
- Actual revenue: how much money corresponds to Hong Kong's overall Top Grossing #82–111 has not been verified.
- Acquisition channels and spend; whether Fuban and Lucky7 are really migrating users between old and new packages (inferred from the protocol directory names).
- Whether a same-named package exists on iOS (this iTunes lookup returned no results; unverified).
