# "How to check your girlfriend's phone": an Indian app that sat dormant for a year and a half reached 170k installs in six weeks through regional-language creators

**What it is** An Android app from a small outsourcing shop in India that forwards WhatsApp and SMS notifications from a child's phone to a parent's phone, packaged in the store as parental control that "unlocks by solving math problems."

**Why it took off** Starting late September 2026, paid Indian regional-language tech creators posted Reels pitching it as a way to spy on a girlfriend's or family member's WhatsApp. Viewers commented a keyword and got a DM with the link. After installing, users were first shown sample screenshots, then charged ₹900.

**C** **What you can take from it** Don't copy the product or the pitch. Take the distribution playbook: find multilingual regional tech creators for a legitimate app that sells in India, use one shared script, swap links via comment keywords, and keep what's said in the video consistent with the store listing.

Grade C: only the distribution playbook is replicable. Its traction and revenue came from hinting it can "spy" and using sample screenshots to pull payments, while breaking Play's stalkerware and deception policies, and users are already calling it a scam. Building a legitimate parental control app means facing FlashGet and AirDroid, which are already working with the same creators. Few people know about it yet

On Google Play, Notivibe is called "Parental Control," and its store page is full of "consent," "transparency," and "unlock by solving math problems." But over the past two months it grew in India on a different pitch on Instagram: a secret hidden app that lets you read someone else's WhatsApp. Below: who makes it, where the traffic comes from, how the money is collected, who else is in the space, and which half you can take from it and which half to avoid.

### A Reel tagged #pr

In 2026 Sep 30, an Indian account called digital.tracez (bio: "cybersecurity, digital forensics") posted a Reel titled:

> How to Monitor Your GF Phone? 😳 | Parental Control App Explained Comment 'APP' and check your DM

How to monitor your girlfriend's phone? Comment "APP" and get the link in DMs. The caption says it introduces a parental control app called NOTIVIBE covering screen time, app usage, location and notifications, with a disclaimer at the end: "This video is for educational purposes only. Do not access someone else's device without authorization." The hashtags include #pr, meaning this was a paid promotion.

Around the same time, the Tamil-language accounts tamil_bros_empire and onum_purila_tech posted "Secret Hidden App😱🔥 Notivibe". A Tamil video on the same topic on Facebook got 1,900 views and 68 comments, mostly people asking for the link with "App." Two more accounts (BSQUAD, tagged #tamil #telugumemes #kannada #malayalam, and techie.rg) used identical copy, including the line "Whether you're a parent… or a partner who wants to stay connected." Identical wording means the developer sent out one script for everyone.

### What it is and who made it

In the store, it's a parental control app paired across two phones. When a child opens a restricted app, a math problem pops up and must be answered to proceed. AI reviews the child's YouTube history, Chrome URLs and search terms and tells parents "how to talk to your child about it." It also offers screen time, location every 30 minutes, geofencing, anti-uninstall, and **real-time forwarding of WhatsApp, Instagram and SMS notifications from the child's phone to the parent's phone** . That last feature is what users actually want.

It's made by Lytortech, a small company registered in October 2024 in Bhupalpally, Telangana. The same developer account also publishes food delivery, dating, hostel and tiffin delivery apps, all with package names under `com.booking.*`. It's clearly an outsourcing shop, and this app grew from the same template.

It isn't a new app. In 2025 February 10 it launched as "Notivibe: Auto Reply & Manager", and the company's LinkedIn at the time said it could monitor notifications for "children, partners or business accounts". The first two days it collected 9 five-star reviews that looked like they came from friends and family, then for a year and a half almost nobody used it, with only 4 reviews over that whole period. In early 2026, its official YouTube channel posted two videos, "accessibility permission explained" and "foreground service demo", which got a few thousand views. Those were materials for Google Play policy review. In October 14 it was renamed "Parental Control", and the store listing's launch date reset with it, so many charts treat it as a new app from October.

### Numbers: over 100,000 in six weeks, now slowing

| Date | Google Play cumulative installs |
|---|---|
| About 10-20 | Over 100k (AppInsider) |
| 10-29 | 146,151 |
| 11-02 | 169,135 |
| 11-06 | 173,692 |

From 10-29 to 11-06 it gained 27,541 in eight days, averaging over ¥3K a day; the last two days dropped to just over ¥2K a day. 11-06 It ranked #95 on the Productivity category Top Grossing chart in India and #183 on Top Free there, with almost nothing elsewhere (it only surfaced occasionally on category charts in Bangladesh and Kuwait).

Read the two numbers together. The India store listing shows 11-06 with a 3.6 rating from 211 reviews. 170k installs produced only about two hundred ratings, roughly one in a thousand. That ratio fits impulse downloads from people who installed it to spy and uninstalled when it didn't work. Whether it also used incentivized installs can't be determined from outside (inference).

### Where users come from: creators said what the store can't

Almost all traffic came from Reels by Indian regional-language tech creators, in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. The playbook has three key points:

- **Two layers of messaging.** The videos say "monitor your girlfriend's phone" and "secret hidden app." The store says "consent-based family safety" and "both parties confirm with a one-time code." The content creates demand; the listing passes review.

- **Comment keywords swap for links.** "Comment APP, check DMs." This both boosts Reel engagement (so the algorithm pushes it more) and routes conversion around store search.

- **Roll out by language with one shared script.** Regional-language tech accounts are cheap and their followers trust them, so one script translated into several languages gives a full round of coverage.

One more small move: the title says "Parental Control" but the category is Productivity, which avoids the most competitive parental control chart. Productivity's Top Grossing chart in India has a low bar, so a little revenue can push it into the top 100.

No ad records were found on Meta or Google (not finding them doesn't mean none were run). There's no discussion on X or Reddit and no press coverage. Most people who know about it saw those few Reels.

### Where the money comes from: sample screenshots first, then ₹900

The app is free to download, with in-app purchases listed at $4.09–49.99. In reviews, users paid ₹899, ₹900 and ₹1000 at various times. A review from late 2025 still mentions "₹4 trial, then ₹199 a week," and the in-app price changed again in Oct 7.

How the payment step happens is clearest in a one-star review from Nov 4:

> Instagram influencers and YouTubers are promoting this app as a WhatsApp message tracking app. After installing the app, it even shows sample screenshots that appear to demonstrate message tracking. However, it asks you to pay ₹900. Once you make the payment, it redirects you to a parental control app page…

Creators promoted it as a WhatsApp message tracker. After installing, you were first shown "sample screenshots" that looked like real chats. Once you paid ₹900, what came up was a parental control page. In Oct 7 someone wrote, "I tested it with my own number, and the chats it showed were fake." The Telugu creator technical.thinkers has already posted "I exposed This scam 😳."

The positive reviews aren't clean either. On September 28 and 29, and October 8, 10 and 19, seven to twelve five-star reviews appeared within an hour or two, all filled with empty praise like "works smoothly" and "good interface," and one praised it as a note-taking app called "NoteVibe." In October 24 a Hindi review said the owner was selling five-star reviews on Telegram for ₹20 (a single user's claim, unverified).

So it sits on the top-grossing chart not because it works well, but because ₹900 is not a small amount in India, and some people paid at the moment they saw the "sample screenshots." How much it earns per month is not visible from outside.

### Who's nearby

| Competitors | Scale (Google Play installs, 11-06) | How it differs from Notivibe |
|---|---|---|
| Google Family Link | 223M | Free, system-level, but doesn't forward WhatsApp notifications |
| FlashGet Kids | 19.8M, #2 on India's free parental control chart | Can also read notifications and the screen, and is also recruiting Indian creators for Reels, but speaks only to parents |
| AirDroid Parental Control | 21.3M | Screen mirroring plus location, also buying Telugu creator #ad posts at the same time |
| Findmykids / Kids360 / Qustodio / FamiSafe | 5M to 83M | Legitimate global subscription, doesn't touch "partners" |
| Recovers deleted messages: WAMR and similar | WAMR 106M | Reads only local notifications; Notivibe's predecessor was this kind of app before it moved to cross-phone forwarding |
| WeSeen - Online and Last Seen | 419k, +87k in 7 days | Same "watch someone else's WhatsApp" demand, but only shows whether the other person is online and doesn't touch their phone |
| FamiGuru / VigilParent / Watcher Kids | 8k to 43k | A small child-chat monitor newly launched in 2026, with no traction path found yet |

Functionally, Notivibe has nothing FlashGet and AirDroid don't already have, and it's two orders of magnitude smaller. The differentiators in its store listing, math-problem unlocks and AI conversation tips, are barely mentioned in the reviews. Its only real difference is who it talks to: the big brands pitch parents, while Notivibe works through creators to talk to boyfriends and husbands.

Someone is already siphoning its traffic: a site called Parentyx is advertising in the comments of Notivibe creator videos, pushing people to sign up on the web and sideload the APK.

### Why this one, and why now

Break it down and there are three things: a real but shady demand (in India, lots of people want to see a partner's or family member's WhatsApp); cheap, precise distribution (regional-language tech accounts plus comment-for-link); and a shell that already cleared review (notification listening, accessibility, and device admin, all sensitive permissions. The review materials were submitted earlier this year, so September's creator push could land right away).

The app itself matters least here. Swap in another notification-forwarding app that also cleared review, use the same script, and you'd likely get the same curve (inference).

### If it were you

**C: There's something to learn, but copying it isn't worth it.** Half of its growth comes from a distribution playbook anyone can use. The other half is hinting you can spy and then not delivering after you pay. The second half can't be copied: tracking software is a category Google Play explicitly bans, users are already calling it a scam in the comments and in reaction videos, and review-flagging reports are piling up. That path could get it delisted or refunded at any time. Building legitimate parental controls means running straight into FlashGet and AirDroid, which already work with the same pool of creators in India.

**Good for:** people who have a legitimate app that can sell in India (utilities, learning, health, finance all work) and lack a cold-start channel. Copy its distribution.

**Not for:** anyone who wants to build a "spy on someone's WhatsApp" product, or anyone who wants to build another parental-control app in India using this as a template.

**How to do it:** Take the playbook, swap out the product. (1) Find mid-sized and small tech accounts posting in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi. Translate one script into five languages, pitch each language in batches, and double down on whichever converts best. (2) In the video, use "comment keyword → auto-DM the link"; don't make people search the store themselves. (3) The video and the store listing must describe the same thing. Notivibe's bad reviews and "I exposed this scam" are the cost of a mismatch. (4) You can copy its willingness to charge, but whatever users see before paying must be the real feature set. (5) When picking a category, check how low the bar is on that category's Top Grossing chart. Even small revenue can buy chart visibility.

**How to get users:** the same playbook as above: regional-language Instagram and Facebook Reels, #pr creator partnerships, and link-for-comment swaps. Don't count on X, Reddit, or the press. It has no discussion in any of those places and still reached 170k installs.

**When to move:** the playbook itself has no deadline, but these cheap regional-language tech accounts are being bid up by big brands like FlashGet and AirDroid, so prices will only rise. If you're going to use it, do it early.

**Signs you misread this:** (1) One or two months from now, Notivibe is still on Play, daily installs stay above two thousand, and its rating recovers to 4. That would mean the demand is real parents, not gray traffic, and parental control is a wider lane than it looks. (2) You run a few rounds of regional-language creator pushes for a legitimate app: installs are cheap but almost nobody pays. That would mean Notivibe's money mostly came from the "spying" hook, and the playbook stops working without it.

## Notivibe - Parental Control (com.booking.notificationlistenerapp) research report

> Channel: Google Play (only gaining traction in India) | Developer: Lytortech (Lytortech Private Limited, Telangana, legal representative KARKURI ANIL) | Research date 2026-11-06

### Bottom line

This isn't a new product from October. It's a small "notification listening / auto-reply" app first listed 2025-02 that sat dormant for a year and a half. In late September 2026, it signed a batch of Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi tech creators on Instagram and Facebook in India. They posted Reels with lines like "secret hidden app" and "how to monitor your girlfriend's phone", which are pitches for spying on WhatsApp. Comments asked for keywords, then DMs sent the link. It then collected ₹899–1000 behind a paywall. The store listing wears a compliant disguise of "parental control + solve math to unlock", and the five-star reviews were bought on Telegram at ₹20 each (reported by users, unverified). It took off because of the "spy on a partner's WhatsApp" demand combined with Indian regional-language creator distribution. The "math unlock" differentiator had almost nothing to do with it.

### 1. What it is

- Store description (Indian store, read 2026-11-06): a family safety app that stresses "consent, transparency, and education". Features include: using the accessibility API to block restricted apps behind a math problem that must be solved correctly; AI analysis of the child's YouTube watch history, Chrome URLs, and search terms, with advice to parents on "how to talk to your child"; screen time stats by app and time window; location every 30 minutes plus geofencing; **real-time mirroring of WhatsApp / Instagram / SMS notifications** ; device admin permissions to prevent uninstall. Parent and child phones are paired with a one-time code.

- Package name `com.booking.notificationlistenerapp`. The APKPure URL slug is still `notivibe-auto-reply-manager`. The developer's other apps all use `com.booking.*` outsourcing templates: FeastRover food delivery, KSR Matrimony, BHPL LunchBox, Genstay dorms, Profit Play. This suggests a small outsourcing shop in Bhupalpally, Telangana (Play "About the developer"; zaubacorp: LYTORTECH PRIVATE LIMITED, registered 2024-10-08).

- Monetization: the app is free with in-app purchases of $4.09–49.99 (googleplay library app_snap). Reviews show users actually paying ₹899 / ₹900 / ₹1000 (multiple reviews from 2026-10). One review from 2025-12 says "pay ₹4 for a trial, then ₹199 / week". AppInsider logged 2026-10-07 "in-app purchase price range change".

### 2. Timeline (it's not actually a new app)

| Timeline | Event | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 2025-02-10 | Listed as "Notivibe: Auto Reply & Manager". LinkedIn promotion said it lets you "monitor notifications for your child, **partner** , or business accounts". | LinkedIn post; earliest Play review 2025-02-10 |
| 2025-02-10~11 | 9 five-star reviews, written like ones from friends and family ("I promise installing this app never disappoint you") | Play reviews (google-play-scraper, in region) |
| 2025-03 ~ 2026-08 | Mostly dormant. Only 4 reviews over a year and a half. | Same as above |
| About 2026-02 | Official YouTube channel posts "Accessibility API prominent disclosure" and "foreground service demo" videos (3.2K / 512 views), clearly made for Play policy review. | YouTube @notivibeapp |
| From ¥2026-09-23 | Reviews suddenly pick up. One-star "fake / scam / 899 rupees wasted" and batches of five-stars appear at the same time. | Play reviews |
| 2026-09-25 | AppInsider first spots it in India | appinsider.io |
| 2026-09-30 | Creator digital.tracez posts "How to Monitor Your GF Phone? 😳", tagged #pr, with "comment APP for the link via DM" | Instagram reel Dd6V7pnvy6W |
| 2026-10-14 | Play first-release date reset (renamed to "Parental Control" / metadata changed) | googleplay library released_store; AppInsider |
| 2026-10-19~20 | Enters the top 100 on India's category chart, installs passing 100k | AppInsider |
| 2026-10-27 | Version update (v1.0) | app_snap.updated_at |
| 2026-10-29 → 11-06 | Installs 146,151 → 173,692,8 days +27,541 (about 3,400 / day). 11-05 and 11-06 drop to about 2,200 / day. | googleplay library app_snap |
| 11-06 | India Productivity Top Grossing 95, Top Free 183. Also made the Bangladesh and Kuwait free category charts (AppWinners). | chart_rank;appwinners.eu |

Note: the googleplay library's `released` is 2025-02-10 (`released_reset = True`, meaning reviews predate the store's first-release date). The 2026-10-14 date on the data card is the date reset after the metadata change.

### III. Competitors

| Product | Where | Launched | Scale (googleplay library 2026-11-06) | How it differs from Notivibe |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google Family Link | Big-company features | 2017 | 223M installs | Free, system-level controls, but doesn't mirror WhatsApp notifications and can't "spy" |
| FlashGet Kids | Android | 2023-05 | 19.8M, #2 on India's PARENTING Top Free chart | Also mirrors notifications and remote screen viewing. Also uses Indian creators for promotion (Instagram @techtuberhardy's FlashGet Kids reel). Much bigger. |
| AirDroid Parental Control | Android | 2022-07 | 21.3M | Has screen mirroring and location tracking. Also ran Telugu-language creator pushes #ad in the same period (reel DetuwofzWXF). |
| Findmykids / Kids360 / Qustodio / Kidslox / FamiSafe | Android / iOS | 2015–2020 | 5M to 83M | Legitimate parental control subscription. Targets Europe, the Americas, and global markets rather than "partner spying". |
| WAMR / Auto RDM / assorted "Recover Deleted Messages" apps | Android | 2019–2025 | WAMR 106M; Longnine's version 36.1M | Read local notifications to recover deleted messages. Notivibe's predecessor, "Notification Monitor," was this type, just reworked to forward across devices. |
| WeSeen - Online and Last Seen | Android | 2026-06 | 419k, 7 days +87k, India TOOLS Top Grossing 41 | Same "spy on someone's WhatsApp" demand, but the approach is checking the other person's online status, no install needed on their phone. |
| FamiGuru: Kids Chat Monitor / VigilParent / Watcher Kids | Android | 2026-05~08 | 8k to 43k | A new batch of small "child chat monitoring" apps, each under a third the size of Notivibe. |
| Parentyx(parentyx.in) | Web + APK | Unknown | Unknown | Hijacking comments on Notivibe creator Reels to drive ads, with web signup plus sideloaded APK. |

Verdict: this niche is crowded, and the big players and established names are two orders of magnitude larger. Notivibe carved out space in India not because its features are better, but because local-language Reels packaged it as a "secretly view someone's WhatsApp" tool, hitting a need that parental-control brands won't say out loud.

### 4. Growth levers (evidence)

1. **Indian local-language creator Reels (main channel, confirmed)**
    - Tamil: tamil_bros_empire, onum_purila_tech, and yuva_react posted "Secret Hidden App😱🔥 Notivibe" (early November), with comments full of people asking "App" for the link; on Facebook, நந்தகுமார்'s video with the same title got 1.9K views and 68 comments.
    - Hindi and English: digital.tracez posted "How to Monitor Your GF Phone? 😳", tagged **#pr** , "Comment 'APP' and check your DM"; opentalkwithrr posted "Comment rr for link" with a long disclaimer.
    - Multilingual: BSQUAD (#tamil #telugumemes #kannada #malayalam) and Golu Kumar (@techie.rg) used **word-for-word identical** copy, including "Whether you're a parent… or a partner who wants to stay connected". That suggests the developer supplied the copy: paid creator placements.
    - Earlier, techy_anuj (Anuj Aggarwal, Tech & AI Tips) posted "ultimate parental control app" with a Play link.
    - The playbook: creators use "comment keyword → auto DM with link" (ManyChat-style) for engagement, which the algorithm rewards with more reach, and conversions bypass search entirely.

2. **Repackaged as a WhatsApp-snooping tool (confirmed)** : 2026-11-04 has a one-star review reading: "Instagram influencers and YouTubers are promoting this app as a WhatsApp message tracking app. After installing the app, it even shows sample screenshots that appear to demonstrate message tracking. However, it asks you to pay ₹900. Once you make the payment, it redirects you to a parental control app page…" Another user wrote "I tested it with my own number and the chats it showed were fake" (10-07), and another asked "Can it hack someone's phone without permission?" (10-19). Telugu creator technical.thinkers also posted "I exposed This scam".

3. **Fake five-star reviews (user report, unverified)** : 10-24 has a Hindi review saying "The App owner pays ₹20 on Telegram for people to give five stars; that's how all the five stars came." The review distribution fits: 9-28/29, 10-08, 10-10, 10-19 over the last few days each saw 7–12 five- or four-star reviews appear within an hour or two, with vague, templated text ("works smoothly", "good interface and features"), some even treating it as a note-taking app ("NoteVibe… organizing notes"). By month (146 reviews in the in-store sample): September 15 one-star / 18 five-star, October 33 one-star / 48 five-star. The India store page shows 3.6 stars from 211 ratings. The US store listing has no rating data (googleplay library ratings are empty), so the "0 rating" on the data card is US-only.

4. **Paid acquisition (unverified)** : Neither our metaads nor googleads library contains Lytortech or this package name. The AppInsider model mentions "ads naming the app" but gives no figures. The official YouTube video has 8.1K / 5.9K views, and the channel has only 158 subscribers, so a small YouTube ad spend is possible but unconfirmed.

5. **Store search / ASO** : After the rename, "Parental Control" was placed in the title, but the category was set to Productivity to avoid the crowded PARENTING chart. India's Productivity Top Grossing bar is low, so even small revenue can land at #95.

6. **X / Reddit / press** : x-radar shows 0 posts over 90 days, Reddit 0 posts, no press coverage. Only auto-generated pages from download sites like Softonic and UpdateStar.

### 5. Why it managed to break out

1. **The demand is real, but it's shady** . In India, many people want to see a partner's or family member's WhatsApp. Parental-control brands won't sell it that way. Notivibe lets creators say it out loud ("monitor your GF phone", "partner who wants to stay connected") while the store listing is full of "consent" and "2026 compliance" language to get through Play review.

2. **The channel choice was right** . Tech creators in Indian local languages (Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi) are cheap and highly trusted by their followers. "Comment a keyword to get the link" boosts both Reels engagement and conversions.

3. **The groundwork was laid early** . Policy review materials for notification access, the accessibility API, and device admin permissions were submitted in early 2026 (prominent disclosure videos on YouTube), so when creators pushed traffic in September, the app could absorb it without being pulled right away.

4. **Aggressive pricing** . ₹899–1000 as a one-time or long-term charge is high for India. Some users were pushed to pay by the "sample screenshots," so even with poor reviews it stays on the low-bar Productivity Top Grossing chart.

5. **Install counts may be inflated** : 174k installs against only 211 ratings (about 0.12%), a very low rating rate. That fits impulse downloads from people who wanted to snoop and uninstalled when it didn't work, though incentivized installs are possible and unconfirmed.

### VI. Differentiation

The store listing's stated differentiators are "unlock by solving math problems" and "AI tells parents how to talk to their kids." From the reviews, almost nobody came for either; only one five-star mentioned that "the questions repeat." Users came because creators said it could read someone else's WhatsApp notifications. Where it truly differs from FlashGet and AirDroid is its **positioning** : it speaks directly to "partners / girlfriends," while big brands only speak to parents. That difference is why it grew, and also its biggest risk (Play stalkerware policy, user fraud complaints).

### VII. Visibility and copycats

- Visibility: **Few people know about it** . No press coverage, 0 discussion on X / Reddit, and revenue isn't public. It only circulates in local-language Instagram / Facebook circles, and reverse "scam exposé" videos have already appeared.

- Copycats: none directly copying it yet. At the same time, FlashGet Kids and AirDroid Parental Control were running similar Reels with the same Indian tech creators; Parentyx was siphoning traffic from the comment sections of its creator videos. The playbook is already in use by others.

### 8. What to borrow

- Paid Reels with Indian local-language tech creators, plus "comment keyword → DM link," worked very well for cold start. Cost per video was low, and rollout could be batched by language.

- Find a need mainstream brands won't say openly, voice it on the content side, and keep compliant language on the store side. That can drive volume, but it stacks reputational and platform-policy risk on top.

- Picking a niche category like Productivity lets small revenue reach the Top Grossing chart, buying chart exposure.

- Parts not worth copying: "sample screenshots" luring payment and paying for good reviews. Both are high-risk under Play policy and consumer complaints, likely to get an app pulled.

### IX. Uncertainties

- The scale and budget of creator placements, and whether it also ran Meta / Google paid acquisition (the ad libraries don't cover it).

- Actual revenue: how much India Productivity Top Grossing #95 corresponds to is unknown; whether ₹899 is one-time or subscription is unverified.

- The Telegram review-buying claim is a single user's account and unverified.

- How much of the 174k installs were incentivized or impulse-then-uninstalled; retention is unknown.

- Whether Play will act under its stalkerware and deceptive-behavior policies (11-04 users have already explicitly called it a scam).
