A thousand installs is enough to chart: a Ukrainian developer's couples Q&A app, and the low bar of small Eastern European markets

What it is A couples Q&A app: two people answer the same set of questions on their own phones, compare answers, and check in together a little each day. Paid through a subscription.

Why it took off The Lifestyle charts in Ukraine and Poland have a very low bar: 200-plus installs a day can get you charted. The founder posted consistently in his native Threads community, got covered by local tech media, and traded free Premium for reviews. That got it onto the charts at almost no cost.

CHow you could follow Don't copy the couples Q&A category; it's crowded. Take the cold-start method instead: localize well for a smaller-language home market where the charts are easy to crack, use your founder account to talk about concrete everyday scenes, lean on local dev circles and tech press, and push the app onto the category chart.

Grade C: The cold-start method is cheap and learnable, but the couples Q&A category is taken by Paired and SumOne, which have millions of installs, plus 40 template apps. Amorly's daily check-in idea has already been done, and Amorly itself has only a few thousand installs and unknown revenue, so following this product isn't worth it. Whispers in the niche

Amorly is a couples Q&A app: two people each answer the same set of questions on their own phones, then see what the other picked. Dozens of apps like this exist worldwide, and the big ones have millions of installs. Amorly got only 1,188 installs on Google Play in two weeks, yet it charted at #24 on Poland's Lifestyle Top Free. The reason isn't the product, it's the market it picked: in Ukraine and Poland, 200-plus installs a day is enough to chart. This piece covers how it got there at almost no cost, and why this category isn't worth copying.

A complaint under a Threads post

Around 2026 Nov 1, Ukrainian iOS developer Serhii Pik (Сергій Пік) posted a Ukrainian-language Threads post titled "4 more Ukrainian apps you've probably never heard of." When he got to Amorly, he wrote:

Sometimes you miss your husband even though he's sitting on the couch next to you every night. But after a day, you've talked about what to buy, work, and who's picking up the package, and you haven't learned anything new about each other. In Amorly, you each answer questions, then read the other's answers.

The post got 58 likes and 30 replies. One reply said: "Why didn't you mention when you were promoting it that the Android version doesn't work!" The next day he replied: "Amorly has an Android version now )" (Threads, 11-06 views).

The Android version launched in Oct 23, and by Nov 1 had only 81 total installs. The numbers after that: 11-02 336,11-03 457,11-05 1,188 (Google Play install counts). His Threads account has 632 followers and the bio reads "Senior iOS Developer, building Amorly."

What it actually does

The store page opens with three questions: "Which of you is more likely to spend your last dollar on a lottery ticket?" "Your partner's diary is open on the table, what do you do?" "Which song will always be tied to you two?"

The format: each day you take one step of a "path," a few short questions taking a few minutes; each of you answers without seeing the other's picks; once you've both answered, the app shows where you matched and where you didn't. The store description says 1,300 questions, 120 topics, and 11 languages. There are also AI-generated date ideas, gift suggestions and sweet lines, which the founder calls "secondary features."

In a September interview with Ukrainian tech outlet dev.ua he was blunt about the pitch: "There are a lot of apps like this, but they all have one problem: the questions are there, but couples forget them within a day or two, because the app doesn't remind you, so it doesn't build a habit." So he borrowed from Duolingo: the home screen is basically one button, and the two partners maintain a shared streak. dev.ua's headline was "Ukrainian developer launches Amorly, aiming for a 'Duolingo for relationships'" (2026-09-15).

It didn't start out like this. The iOS version launched in April 2026, and when an ASO analysis site wrote about it in September, its subtitle was still "Love Messages," with the core being an AI love-note generator (pumf.it, 09-02). By November, the store description had been fully rewritten around couples Q&A and daily paths. In other words, it moved from a form few people searched for into a category many people search for and many people are building.

Where the money comes from

Free to download, subscription to unlock, with a trial first. dev.ua's September article listed $5.99 to $29.99 (depending on period), and the Google Play in-app purchase range is now listed as $8.99 to $49.99.

Revenue has never been published. The only visible signal: the iOS version was on the Ukraine App Store's Lifestyle Top Grossing chart for most of late October to early November, at around #14 to #31 (App Store charts, 10-28 to 11-06), so somebody is paying. But a spot on Ukraine's Lifestyle Top Grossing chart corresponds to a fairly small revenue figure (inferred). The founder mentioned on Threads that people often delete the app and forget to cancel, then call him a scammer. This is the old problem with subscription couples apps: usually only one of the two pays, the other stops using it, and the payer then doesn't want to renew.

Where the volume came from: pick a chart with a low bar

Put its numbers side by side:

PlatformMarketBest rankVolume at the time
Google PlayPolandLifestyle Top Free #24 (11-04), 11-06 fell back to #34About 200-plus installs per day globally (AppstoreSpy estimate)
App StorePolandLifestyle Top Free #10 (11-03), overall Top Free that day #206Poland rating count 17 → 25
App StoreUkraineLifestyle Top Grossing #14–31,11-02, Top Free #14Ukraine rating count 181 → 206 (9 days, +25)

200 installs a day wouldn't even touch the category chart in the US, but in Poland it gets you into the top 30. Once charted, more people see it. That's the first reason it got noticed: the market it's in has a chart bar low enough for one person's side promotion to clear.

The second reason is that the founder promoted it himself, at close to zero cost:

  • Native-language Threads. Ukraine's Threads has an active "local indie developer" community where people reshare each other and self-promote in "show off what you built" threads. He kept posting updates there; in Nov 6 he was still posting "added a new question type, 'Imagine,' available on Google Play and the App Store, free to try."
  • Local tech press. The dev.ua article was written from his Threads post. When it was published, Amorly was in the top 10 of Ukraine's Lifestyle chart, with 28 ratings, at 4.9 stars.
  • DMs for reviews. In Oct 11 he ran an event on Threads: write a review, DM your email, get 3 days of Premium. On iOS, 209 ratings average 4.82 stars, while Google Play only has 3.4 to 3.8, and the gap is likely related (inferred). This kind of tactic risks violating store policy.
  • Localized titles. The Polish title is "Amorly: Gry i Pytania dla Par" (games and questions for couples), and the Ukrainian one also includes "питання для пар." In September, it ranked #2 in Ukraine for the search "couples quiz" (pumf.it).

One thing is unclear: from Oct 29 to Nov 3, Poland's iOS and Android installs rose at the same time, almost in sync. Store recommendations don't usually hit two platforms together, so there was likely off-store traffic into Poland in those days. It could have been Instagram or Facebook ads targeting Poland, a Polish blogger, or many Ukrainians living in Poland who saw the Ukrainian-language post while their store account was set to Poland. Which one it was can't be seen from outside (unverified). Searching "amorly" on TikTok turns up no related videos, and nobody mentions it on X.

Who it's competing with

UpLuv, Floom, Doodi, Lovy, PairQ……2025–2026Mostly single-digit review countsOver 40 results for "couples game" in the US, all using the "XX: Couples Games & Quiz" naming template

Amorly's own title is built on that template. The difference it claims, "Duolingo-style daily check-ins," was already done by Paired and SumOne years ago, and there's no public data showing its retention is any better. One more point: searching its Polish title keywords on Poland's Play store, it doesn't appear in the top 15 results, and search traffic belongs to Lovify.

If it were you

One-line verdict: Don't copy couples Q&A; the category is already packed, and Amorly itself hasn't broken out. What's worth taking is its cold-start method: pick a home-language market with a low chart bar, and use your own account and local press to push an app onto the category chart at zero cost.

Who it's for: Indie developers whose home language is a smaller one, such as Ukrainian, Polish, Czech or Romanian, who already have (or plan to build) a lifestyle or productivity subscription app, and who are willing to show their face in their own language on Threads or Instagram over the long run.

Who it's not for: Anyone trying to build a couples app for English markets (Paired and SumOne hold the keywords, and 40-plus template apps are fighting over the rest); anyone counting on "daily check-ins" alone to differentiate; anyone unwilling to be on camera and tell their own story, who only wants to write code.

How to do it: First localize the title, screenshots and description for your home market, not with machine translation. After launch, watch that country's category chart and estimate roughly how many daily installs it takes to reach the top 50 (Amorly's case: 200-plus). Offer a trial before the subscription, but make the cancellation path clear so you take less heat for being called a scammer.

How to get users: Have the founder account talk about concrete everyday scenes rather than features, like his line "he's on the couch every night, and you still miss him"; promote each other inside local developer circles; send press tips to local tech outlets once you have some traction. DMing for reviews in exchange for Premium works fast, but carries the risk of store enforcement, so weigh it yourself.

Deadline: No hard window. This playbook works any day, but for each small market, the earlier players get the chart exposure, and the more similar apps arrive later, the higher the bar rises.

What would show this read is wrong: (1) By early 2027, Amorly's Android installs climbed into the tens of thousands and charted in more countries, showing the daily check-in really does build retention and the category still has room to differentiate; (2) the Poland traffic is confirmed as paid acquisition and kept running afterward, showing its subscriptions pay back, which would mean the category math needs redoing.

Why Amorly: Couples Games & Quiz (com.bromex.amorly) got traction

Channel: Google Play (same iOS id 6761622325) | Developer: Bromex / Serhii Pik (Ukraine, solo iOS developer) | Research day 2026-11-06

Bottom line

It hasn't really "taken off" yet. It's a couples Q&A app from a Ukrainian indie developer in a crowded category. It gets recalled for two reasons: first, in small markets like Ukraine and Poland, where the Lifestyle chart bar is low, a few hundred installs a day can get it into the top 30 of a category chart; second, the founder posts steadily on Ukrainian Threads, and dev.ua wrote a piece, so organic traffic keeps trickling in. The Android version has been live for 10-23 and has about 1,188 installs over two weeks, which is still small. The only product difference it can point to is "Duolingo-style daily steps plus streaks to keep couples engaged," along with each partner answering separately and AI-generated date and gift ideas. But there's no data yet showing that difference is doing any work.

1. Data profile (our database)

Google Play (googleplay library)

  • Cumulative global installs: 10-30 79 → 11-01 81 → 11-02 336 → 11-03 457 → 11-05 1,188 (11-04 and 11-06 weren't updated, so the +731 for 11-05 covers two days combined). AppstoreSpy estimates 11-01–11-05 per day on average, 188–244.
  • Only charted once: Poland LIFESTYLE free chart, rank 164 (10-30) → 114 → 76 → 59 → 36 → 24 (11-04) → 27 → 34 (11-06), and it has been sliding back these past few days. The Polish store title is "Amorly: Gry i Pytania dla Par".
  • Store rating 3.4–3.8 (chart_rank table), from very few ratings; no reviews captured in the review table. Far below the iOS 4.8.
  • In-app purchase range $8.99–$49.99; the description advertises 1300+ questions, 120 topics, 11 languages, subscription with a free trial before payment.

iOS (appstore database, same app)

  • Released 2026-04-17, current version 1.3.11 (11-05). 209 global ratings, average 4.82 (iTunes lookup).
  • Ukraine: ratings 181 (10-28) → 206 (11-06), +25 over 9 days. Mostly ranked 14–31 on the Lifestyle Top Grossing chart during this stretch, and 14 on the 11-02 Top Free chart.
  • Poland: ratings 17 → 25. Lifestyle Top Free 118 (10-29) → 35 → 16 → 10 (11-03); it also reached #206 on the Poland overall Top Free chart 11-03.
  • Key observation: from 10-29 to 11-03, installs climbed on both iOS and Android in Poland at nearly the same time. That points to cross-platform external traffic in Poland, not a recommendation from any single store.

2. Competitors

Plenty of apps do the same thing (each partner answers, answers get compared, chat topics, date ideas), and most are orders of magnitude bigger (googleplay database, cumulative installs / increase over the last 7 days):

Big-company features / web———A lot of free "couples question list" content online (such as quizpro.pl's "Pytania dla Par"), and Amourly also has a web tool

Bottom line: this category is extremely crowded, and Amorly's title itself follows the template. It charted by picking small countries nobody is competing in.

3. Growth tactics (evidence)

来源:threads.com/@serhii.pik、/post/DfO5ji3jdHO。
  2. Press (confirmed, small): dev.ua 2026-09-15 "Ukrainian developer launches Amorly, aiming to be the Duolingo of relationships," reposted by infocombiner; at the time the article said it was "ranked 4.9 on Ukraine's top Lifestyle apps by ratings" 10,28.
  3. Incentivized reviews and free trials (confirmed): 10-11's Threads post: "Review-for-Premium promo: everyone who emails me gets 3 days of Premium." This probably explains why iOS is at 4.8 and Play at 3.4–3.8.
  4. Store search / ASO (partly confirmed): pumf.it 9-02 reports show that in the Ukraine store it ranks #2 for "couples quiz" and #18 for "date ideas"; the US store doesn't index it at all. Titles are localized (Polish "Gry i Pytania dla Par", Ukrainian "питання для пар"), 11 languages in total. However, in the Polish Play search results I pulled via Jina, it isn't in the top 15 for either "pytania dla par" or "gry dla par" (the proxy's location at capture time is uncertain), so Poland's growth probably didn't come from store search.
  5. Cross-platform traffic in Poland (source not found): iOS and Android charted at the same time, which looks like Meta (Instagram/Facebook) ads targeting Poland, or a Polish or Poland-based Ukrainian creator sending a wave of traffic. Our metaads, tiktokads, and googleads databases don't track this app (it's outside our list), but not finding it doesn't mean it wasn't advertised. A TikTok search for "amorly" turned up no relevant videos; x-radar shows 0 in 30 days. Another possibility: many Ukrainians living in Poland saw the Ukrainian Threads posts, and their Play accounts are set to Poland (unverified).
  6. Not found: no record on Product Hunt, Reddit, HN, major X accounts, or TrustMRR; the founder has never posted revenue.

4. Why it took off

  • Small markets have low chart thresholds: on Android it only charted in Poland's Lifestyle category; 200 installs a day was enough to reach #24. On iOS it reached the top 20–30 of Ukraine's Lifestyle Top Grossing, which is itself a very small revenue level.
  • Local founder plus local press: the Ukrainian market has "local developer story" hooks like Threads and dev.ua to lean on, so cold-start cost is nearly zero.
  • Why people pay: subscription plus trial (dev.ua reports $5.99–$29.99, Play currently lists $8.99–$49.99), and two-person play suits a paywall. iOS has stayed on the Lifestyle Top Grossing chart in Ukraine, which suggests some people are paying, though the amount can't be verified.
  • Product pivot: it started as "Amorly: Love Messages / Letter," an AI love-note generator (pumf.it 9-02 says "the name says games, but it's actually an AI love-note tool"). By November, the store description had changed to "1300-question couples quiz + daily path + streak," with AI love notes and date and gift ideas pushed to the background. In other words, it moved from a format nobody searches for into a larger, more crowded category.

5. Differentiation

  • The founder's stated difference: similar apps "get forgotten within a day or two because the app never reminds you," so Amorly copies Duolingo: almost one button on the home screen, one step a day, and both partners keep the streak going together (dev.ua).
  • Other selling points: each partner answers on their own phone and then compares, 120 topics, date suggestions tied to real places in your city, AI-generated love notes and gift ideas, and 11 languages.
  • Is this why it took off? Not yet. Paired and SumOne have had daily questions and streaks for a long time. Its real growth comes from charting in small countries plus the founder's own promotion, and there is no retention data yet for the "Duolingo-style retention" claim. Play ratings of 3.4–3.8 suggest the Android experience for new users isn't great. The founder has also said on Threads that people accuse him of fraud because they deleted the app but the subscription kept billing.

6. Visibility and copycats

  • Visibility: it's being talked about in small circles, namely the Ukrainian developer scene on Threads plus one dev.ua article. No public revenue numbers, no coverage from major X accounts or English-language media, only auto-generated ASO case pages on pumf.it.
  • Copycats: no direct clones found. The category already has 40 template-style "Couples Games & Quiz" apps.

7. What others can borrow

  • In small Eastern European markets like Ukraine and Poland, Lifestyle chart thresholds are low. Localize the title first; a few hundred installs can get you charted, and that brings more exposure.
  • Local-language Threads posts from indie devs telling the story of building an app, plus local tech media. Cold-start cost is near zero.
  • A DM campaign offering a few free days of Premium for good reviews builds a high rating fast (watch the platform policy risk).
  • Package the commoditized couples Q&A as "daily path + shared streak" to tell a retention story.

8. Still unclear

  • 10-29 to 11-03: both platforms in Poland rose together. Where does the traffic come from (Meta ads? bloggers? Ukrainians living in Poland?)
  • Real revenue and subscription conversion. Why Play ratings are low (reviews were not captured).
  • The iOS listing date is 2026-04-17, which doesn't match pumf.it 9-02 saying it's "two weeks old". It may have been resubmitted or repositioned along the way.
  • Retention data: does the "Duolingo-style" approach actually work?
