Called "Burma TV" but shows no matches: how a scores shell app captured Myanmar fans' searches
What it is A football app that carries the name of a Myanmar pirate-streaming brand, "Burma TV", but only shows scores and fixtures, and earns through ads.
Why it took off Burma TV was very popular on TikTok but only distributed APK files, not through app stores. Myanmar fans searching Play for the name found this app; add the World Cup and the start of the Premier League season, and about two hundred installs a day was enough to chart in Thailand and Malaysia's sports categories.
CHow you could follow it Don't borrow someone else's name. Look for services that are hot on TikTok or Telegram but not in the stores, then build a genuinely useful scores or news app in the local language (for example Burmese), and get volume through store search and small-country category charts.
- Data (updated daily) · first launch 2026-08-08 · 11-07 installs 12,918
Android · Total installs worldwide Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.
A Myanmar pirate-streaming service called Burma TV had one TikTok video with 2.23M views, yet it isn't on any app store. So someone put up a scores app with the same name on Google Play. In 3 months it reached 13k installs and made Thailand's free sports chart. The product itself has nothing worth learning from. What is worth learning is where the traffic it captured came from, and why that traffic is hard to copy.
A 2.23M-view video
In 2026 June 22, during the World Cup, the TikTok account @burmatvpro (named "Burma TV", fewer than 5,000 followers) posted a Burmese video with a single line of caption: "Now downloadable on both iOS and Android", tagged #worldcup #burmatv. The video got 2.23M views. In July 21 it posted another one, saying that every Premier League, Champions League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1 match has HD live streams with commentary, and that one got 1.63M views (TikTok, 11-06 checked).
Burma TV (also called Burma TV Pro) is an off-store paid sports streaming service in Myanmar. The official site burmatvpro.com offers only the Android APK, Windows and Mac downloads, plus a download code for Fire TV. It charges in Myanmar kyat: 15,000 kyat for 3 month, 45,000 kyat for a year, and you order via Telegram. It's not on Google Play or the App Store.
People who watched the video searched "Burma TV" in the Play Store and found a row of other people's apps. "Burma TV: Live Football HD", listed in Aug 8, was one of them.
What it actually is
A basic football scores app: fixtures, results, league tables, player stats. The title says "Live Football HD", but the last paragraph of the store listing makes it clear: "Burma tv does not distribute or showcase any match videos", meaning it carries no match footage at all.
The developer on Play is listed as Kapmasai, registered under the name HASSAN KAVU NDUNE, with a gmail address. The privacy policy is a template from a free generator, and the "developer website" sits on a free app-ads.txt hosting subdomain that bounces back to the Play developer page within 3 seconds. The package name is burmafotballtv.cricfyfootballscore: "football" is misspelled as "fotball", and another pirate-stream brand's name, Cricfy, is stuffed in at the end.
The money comes only from ads: app-ads.txt lists AdMob and Tappx, with no in-app purchases. The version is still 1.0, nothing has been updated since Sep 13, it has no rating, and no reviews are visible to this day. 11-06 It's still on the shelf.
Scale
| Timeline | Total installs | Daily new installs |
|---|---|---|
| 09-03 | About 600 | About 160 (third-party estimate) |
| 09-09 to 09-19 | 1,355 to 5,016 | Peak about 820 (Sep 18 to 19, third-party estimate) |
| 09-25 to 10-11 | 7,036 to 8,184 | Fallen back to a few dozen to 300 |
| 11-06 | 12,918 | Last 7 days +1,514, about 216/day (Google Play) |
It has only charted in two countries: its best on Thailand's Sports Top Free was #42 on Nov 3, and #59 on Nov 6; in Malaysia it sat between #93 and #172. The bar for that chart is low: on Nov 6, Thailand's Sports Top Free had only 118 ranking spots in total, while the chart leader that day, NBA, added 220k in a week. About two hundred installs a day was enough to crack the top 60.
Why Thailand and Malaysia? These two countries are where the most Burmese migrant workers go. Local rankings in Myanmar aren't visible from outside, so the bulk of the users are most likely in Myanmar itself and among Burmese workers in these two countries (inference).
How users found it: an unclaimed search term
The chain is short:
- The brand itself pushed "Burma TV" on TikTok and YouTube (@burmatv164M subscribers), making the term trend;
- the real source only distributes APK files and doesn't go through app stores;
- users searched the stores, and the only things that came up were score apps riding on the name. Whoever listed first with a matching name took the installs.
Searching "burma tv app live football" on Google also surfaces these Play pages. The timing lined up: the World Cup 6 through July pushed the term up, the new English Premier League season kicked off in August, and it listed on Aug 8 and peaked in September.
I couldn't find any paid acquisition. It earns only from ad impressions in Myanmar and Southeast Asia, where a single user is worth only a few cents, so paid user acquisition likely couldn't have paid back. It most likely wasn't bought (inference).
How much it earns
Users come for the live streams, find only scores, and most likely open it once or twice and uninstall, but each open can show an ad or two. Ad rates in Myanmar and Southeast Asia are very low, so 13k installs add up to maybe a few dozen to a few hundred dollars (estimate).
One package earns this little, so the business only works at volume: launch many packages, each living a month or two. Ahead of it there was an identically named package (com.burmatv.burmatvapp1), listed around June, which lived 50 days and collected about 15k installs before Google removed it in August; two weeks later this one appeared. Whether the two were published by the same person hasn't been verified.
Who it's competing with
Under the term "Burma TV" alone, at least five or six packages are crowded onto Play and the App Store:
| App | Platform | Scale | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Burma TV Pro Football(Luckytech Apps) | Android | Listed 9-05, 6,859 installs, 7 days +1,578 | The playbook is identical: the package name also stuffs in cricfy, same template and hosting; it ranks #62 on Thailand's Sports chart, right behind it |
| BurmaTv: Live Scores & iptv(Digy Mana) | Android | Listed 5-30, 10k+ downloads, 1.4K reviews, 4.5 stars | Listed earlier, with far more reviews |
| Burma TV ဘောလုံး Live(Ali Developers Hub) | Android | 500+ | Title written in Burmese |
| Burmese Tv Score(SEBASTIAN COOPER) | iOS | Listed 6-23, 30 ratings in the Thailand store | Same product on iOS |
| Burmese Tv-BStream(Thet Zaw Lat) | iOS | Listed 3-12, 118 ratings in the Thailand store | The name suggests a local Burmese developer |
Zooming out, the same playbook plays out bigger with another pirate-stream brand, "Cricfy" (from India and Africa): on Play there are several versions of CricFy Live Football TV, with individual packages at 200k to 390k installs; CricFy-TV, listed in Sep 28, grew 42k in a week. Yacine, Yousine and Ucine, which ride on North African pirate-stream brand Yacine TV, follow the same pattern. The developer names and emails of several of these look like they come from the same circle (likely Kenya).
On the legitimate score-app side, Thailand's Sports chart is topped by AiScore, FotMob, Sofascore, LiveScore and 365Scores, all with tens of millions of installs. In features, it can't match even a fraction of those.
How much longer can it last?
Two things show the window is closing:
- The brand's own TikTok has gone quiet. Of its 6 and July posts, one got 2.23M views and another 1.63M, while everything posted from August on has only a few hundred to a thousand-plus views (TikTok, 11-06). No one is pushing the term anymore, so search volume will most likely fall with it (inference).
- Removal is just a matter of time. A title reading "Live Football HD" with no live streams, under someone else's brand name, runs afoul of Google Play's misleading-content and impersonation policies on two counts; the earlier package with the same name was removed after 50 days.
If it were you
C: Worth learning from, not worth copying. Copying this one package gets you a business where each package earns a few dozen to a few hundred dollars, can be removed at any time, and where five or six others already crowd the same term. What's worth taking away is the traffic-finding method behind it.
Who it suits: small teams building tool or content apps that are hunting for terms with lots of searches that nobody in the store serves well; people who speak a minor language or know a small country's users well.
Who it doesn't suit: anyone who wants to build a product that lasts (impersonator packages live for weeks, and an account ban drags down every app under the same developer); anyone who cares about developer-account and brand safety; anyone hoping to make real money from this.
How to do it: don't borrow someone else's name, borrow the idea. Look for things that are hot on TikTok, YouTube or Telegram but where the official side only distributes installers or has no app at all. It's not just pirate streams; any service that lives only on Telegram or only distributes APKs counts, and nobody in the store serves the people searching for it. Then build something genuinely useful in the local language: for example, a Burmese interface, scores sorted by the English Premier League teams Burmese fans care about most, kickoff reminders and match reports in Burmese. Use your own name, and openly put the generic terms users search for, like "Myanmar", "football", "Burmese scores", in the store description.
How to acquire users: lead with store search, and accelerate through small-country category charts: about two hundred installs a day in Thailand's or Malaysia's Sports Top Free is enough to reach the top 60, and charting brings a bit of organic exposure. Then post in Burmese-migrant Facebook groups and football-fan TikTok accounts in Thailand and Malaysia, pushing score cards before matches and match reports after.
When is the best time to start: European leagues play through next May, so listing before the January 2027 transfer window could ride most of the season; after May it's the off-season.
Signs you've misread this: ① packages of this type get removed in batches from 11 through December and no new ones appear, meaning Google has started seriously cleaning up this term and the store route is closed; ② conversely, the real Burma TV Pro lists itself on Play or the App Store, and all the search traffic goes back to the original; ③ your Burmese score app has been listed a month, can't crack the top 100 of Thailand's Sports chart, and gets fewer than 50 installs a day, meaning these users only want the streams and nobody wants scores themselves.

One line
This is a name-squatter: it puts the name of a very popular Myanmar off-platform pirate streaming service, "Burma TV", on Google Play. Inside, it only does scores, fixtures and standings, and makes money from AdMob and Tappx ads. Myanmar people watch Burma TV's TikToks, then search the store for the name, and this app is what they find. It has no product value, and it hasn't really "broken out" either: 3 months, 12.9k installs, and #59 on Thailand's sports Top Free chart (a low-bar chart). What's worth watching is the playbook behind it: a group of individual developers (judging by the names, many seem to be from Kenya) mass-publish empty "scores only" apps named after pirate streaming brands (Cricfy, Yacine, Burma TV), and when one gets pulled, they re-upload it under a new package name.
1. Who they are
- The developer is listed on Play as "Kapmasai", legal name HASSAN KAVU NDUNE, email [email protected] (gmail). The privacy policy is a template from freeprivacypolicy.com. The "developer website" is a free subdomain hosted by app-ads-txt.com, v7b8c01e2.app-ads-txt.com, which redirects back to the Play developer page after 3 seconds [googleplay library app table; URL checked directly].
- app-ads.txt has two lines:
google.com, pub-9103413728625256(AdMob) andtappx.com, so monetization is interstitial and banner ads [v7b8c01e2.app-ads-txt.com/app-ads.txt]. No in-app purchases (offers_iap = False) [googleplay app_snap]. - Published 2026-08-08, version 1.0, last updated 2026-09-13, no updates since; no rating count (ratings empty); first review appeared 2026-10-10 [googleplay app / app_snap].
- The store page copy is an English template ("essential app for football enthusiasts… fixtures, scores, standings") and ends with the disclaimer "Burma tv does not distribute or showcase any match videos", i.e. it shows no match videos. The release notes are generic boilerplate ("New app – new experience!") [Play listing]. The package name
burmafotballtv.cricfyfootballscoremisspells "football" as "fotball" and also carries another pirate brand, "Cricfy". - This developer has only this one app in the library [googleplay developer].
2. Growth data
| Timeline | Total installs | Average daily new installs | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 09-03 | 616 | ~158 | AppstoreSpy estimate |
| 09-09 → 09-19 | 1,355 → 5,016 | 240–820 (09-18/19 peak 822) | AppstoreSpy estimate |
| 09-25 → 10-11 | 7,036 → 8,184 | fell back to 10–300 | AppstoreSpy estimate |
| 10-11 → 11-01 | 8,184 → 12,175 | ~150–240 | AppstoreSpy estimate / googleplay |
| 11-06 | 12,918 | +1,514 in the last 7 days (about 216/day) | googleplay app_profile |
- Charts: it has only appeared on the SPORTS Top Free charts in Thailand (th) and Malaysia (my). In Thailand its best was #42 on 11-03, and it later dropped to #59 on 11-06; in Malaysia it sat between #93 and #172 [googleplay chart_rank].
- The bar is low: 11-06 Thailand's SPORTS Top Free chart has only 118 apps in total. At #59 it had only 12.9k cumulative installs, and about two hundred a day is enough to chart. Number 1 on the same chart was NBA, which added 220k in 7 days [googleplay v_chart 2026-11-06].
- The real audience is most likely in Myanmar: our library doesn't index the Myanmar store (none of the 30 stores is mm), so its local ranking isn't visible. Thailand and Malaysia are the two countries with the most Myanmar migrant workers, and it only charts in those two stores, which fits the idea that Myanmar people (including those abroad) are the ones searching (inferred, not verified).
3. Where the demand comes from: the Burma TV brand
- "Burma TV / Burma TV Pro" is a Myanmar off-platform paid pirate streaming service. Its site burmatvpro.com offers Android APKs, Windows and macOS downloads, and a Fire TV Downloader code. It streams UFC, football and ONE Championship, plus 100 more live channels. Pricing is in Myanmar kyat: 3 month 15,000 Ks, six months 25,000 Ks, one year 45,000 Ks, and orders go through Telegram (t.me/burmatvprov2) [burmatvpro.com]. Softonic, Uptodown and Aptoide also host many APK pages for Burma TV and Burmese TV Pro. The Burmese TV Pro listing on Aptoide shows 1M+ downloads [Jina search].
- The brand promotes itself on TikTok via @burmatvpro ("Burma TV", 4,893 followers). One 2026-06-22 post announced "now downloadable on iOS and Android", tagged #worldcup, and got 2.23M views. Another 07-21 post about coverage of the top five leagues got 1.63M views. A third 06-10 post said "FMD version 3 is now on the Play Store" [TikHub 2026-11-06]. The YouTube channel @burmatv1642 has 22.1k subscribers, and its bio reads "Watch all football live on the Burma TV mobile app" [Jina search].
- Timing: the 2026 World Cup (6–July), plus the new Premier League season kicking off in mid-August, pushed up searches for "Burma TV". This package went up 08-08 and peaked in mid-September, right in the middle of that wave.
- So the chain is: the brand's TikTok and word of mouth create search demand → users search "Burma TV" on Play → the real app isn't in the store (only APKs are offered), so search results are taken over by a batch of same-named score-only apps. The Play links returned by Jina carry
utm_term=burma tv app live football, which suggests Google web search for this term also surfaces these Play pages.
4. Competitors and relatives
Same-name squatters on "Burma TV" (Play / iOS)
| Name | Channel | Launched | Scale | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Burma TV: Live Football HD(com.burmatv.burmatvapp1) | Android | About 2026-06 | Lived 50 days, about 15k installs, 2026-08 pulled [AppBrain summary] | The earlier same-named package; this one went up within 2 weeks of its removal, very likely a re-upload (not verified whether it's the same person) |
| Burma TV Pro Football (com.burmatvlive.cricfyfootballstream.tv, Luckytech Apps, legal name LAWI KIPNGETICH BETT) | Android | 2026-09-05 | 6,859 installs, +1,578 in 7 days; #62 on Thailand's SPORTS Top Free [googleplay] | Identical playbook: the package name also stuffs in "cricfy", it uses the same freeprivacypolicy template and app-ads-txt.com, and the developer name also looks Kenyan. |
| BurmaTv: Live Scores & iptv(com.burmatv.appinao,Digy Mana) | Android | 2026-05-30 | 10k+ downloads, 1.4K reviews, 4.5 stars [Play page] | The title adds "iptv", and it has far more reviews |
| Burma TV ဘောလုံး Live(com.burmatv.ali1,Ali Developers Hub) | Android | Not verified | 500+ [Play page] | Title written in Burmese |
| Burmese TV Pro Football(com.burmessetvpro.sports_footballscores) | Android | Not verified | Now won't open (likely removed) | Squats on Burmese TV Pro |
| Burmese Tv Score(SEBASTIAN COOPER) | iOS | 2026-06-23 | 30 ratings in Thailand; best Top Free rank in Thailand #97 [appstore] | Same product on iOS |
| Burmese Tv-BStream(Thet Zaw Lat) | iOS | 2026-03-12 | 118 ratings in Thailand [appstore] | Myanmar local developers |
Same playbook squatting on "Cricfy" (a pirate brand from India and Africa), at far larger scale [googleplay / appstore]: CricFy Live Football TV v7.3 (Clement Niyoyita, 390k), CricFy Live Football TV 2026 (Tips Tech, 347k), Live Football TV HD (com.cricfy.worldcup, Clement Dunstan Siaffu, 272k), CricFy: Soccer Live Scores (213k), CricFy-TV (VISIONCRAFT, published Sep 28, 83k, +42k in 7 days). On iOS there's Cricfy TV: Live Sports (2,149 ratings). Packages squatting on the North African pirate brand Yacine TV, such as Yacine, Yousine and Ucine, are in the same crowd.
Legit score apps: the top of Thailand's sports chart is full of AiScore, FotMob, LiveScore, Sofascore and 365Scores, each with tens of millions of installs. Functionally, this app is a stripped-down version of them and can't compete.
The pirate source itself: Burma TV Pro's website, APK sites and Telegram. What users actually want is to watch live matches, and only the source can deliver that.
5. Growth tactics
- Squatting on the brand name and capturing store search traffic (the core point, with strong evidence): the title and package name both stuff in Burma TV and Cricfy. The real app isn't on Play, yet the brand's TikToks have millions of views, which pushed the search demand.
- Low bar on small-country sports charts: about two hundred installs a day is enough to reach the top 60 of Thailand's SPORTS Top Free, and charting brings a bit more exposure.
- Re-upload: the earlier same-named package lived 50 days before being pulled, and this one went up right after with an identical name. This is a common move for these packages (whether the two are the same developer hasn't been verified).
- Paid acquisition: no evidence found. Ad libraries only track listed products, so not finding ads doesn't mean there were none. But since it monetizes only through AdMob, each user is worth very little, so paid installs would almost certainly not pay back. We guess it didn't buy any.
- Own content or creators: none found.
6. Why it got this much traction
- There's a ready-made, popular brand term that is not in the store. Myanmar football fans looking for Burma TV find only these shells in the store.
- Big tournaments pushed demand: the World Cup and the new Premier League season kicked off, and daily installs reached about 820 in mid-September.
- Near-zero cost: a score app built from a template (APIs are readily available), hosted with a free privacy policy and app-ads.txt, and published with no maintenance afterward (no updates since 9-13).
- Where the money comes from: users who find no live streams usually uninstall quickly, but each open gets one or two ad impressions. Ad rates in Myanmar and Southeast Asia are low, so 13k installs probably add up to only tens to hundreds of dollars (inferred, not verified). The business works by launching many apps and letting each live a month or two.
7. Differentiation
No product differentiation. The features are a generic score template, far weaker than FotMob or AiScore. The only "difference" is that it occupies a brand search term, and that's really the only reason it got any installs. Its weaknesses are just as clear: squatting on the name and a misleading title (it says Live Football HD but has no live streams) invite takedowns, and the earlier package is the precedent.
8. Visibility
- No media coverage. x-radar shows 0 mentions each for "Burma TV" and "Cricfy" over the last 30 days. Revenue is not public.
- But the playbook itself is already crowded: the Cricfy name alone has more than a dozen listings on Play, and Burma TV has at least 5 packages. Judging by developer names and emails, many come from the same (mostly Kenyan) developer circle.
9. What to borrow
- Look for brand names that are hot but not listed in official app stores. Piracy isn't the only one: anything that only ships as an APK or only lives on Telegram counts. Nobody claims the store search traffic there.
- Don't fight in the global regions. Go to small-language, small-country category charts: the sports chart in Thailand and Malaysia, where 200 installs a day gets you into the top 60.
- To last, you need to give users real value: say, match scores and news in Burmese, for the teams Burmese fans follow, instead of relying on misdirection. Traffic bought by misdirection gets cut off by delistings and doesn't stick.
10. Uncertain
- Our database doesn't track the Myanmar charts or install distribution. Where users are is inferred.
- Whether it's the same developer as the earlier package com.burmatvapp1 is unverified.
- How much paid acquisition or ad revenue it has is unverified.
- Retention and ratings: the database has no rating counts and no review samples.
