How a cleanup app with no new features hit #13 on Korea's Utilities chart in 12 days

What it is An Android phone cleaner that scans, clears junk, and shows battery info. Free, earning from in-app ads.

Why it blew up The developer put Google Ads spend into one country, South Korea, where the tools chart is easy to crack: about 3,000 installs a day gets you into the top 15. It took over the spot left empty when a sister app, SmartCleaner, dropped out of the Korean market.

CHow you could follow it Don't copy this app. If you already run paid acquisition, take the playbook: pick low-barrier countries × category charts, rotate multiple packages by country, and track payback daily. Apply it to a tool category that's less crowded than cleaners. Stay away from fake reviews and pop-ups that jump out of the app.

Grade C: the method for picking charts and rotating packages is worth learning, but the product has nothing to copy. The cleaner category and the Korean chart are already packed with studios running the same play. The barrier is ad budget and skill, plus the risk of account bans, so following it isn't a good bet. Hardly anyone knows about it yet

Super Cleaner is another "scan and clear junk" Android tool on Google Play, with the same features as Files by Google. It hit #13 on the Korean Tools free chart in Nov 3, and the product isn't why. The playbook is: one studio runs seven or eight reskinned packages, buys users through Google Ads, earns back its spend from in-app ads, picks a low-barrier "country × category" chart, pushes one package for a few days, and swaps to the next when performance drops. The playbook is clear and easy to learn, but several studios on the same chart already run exactly the same thing.

A review 16 people marked helpful

Open Super Cleaner's Korean store page and you'll see 4.4 stars and 28 reviews. The pinned one was posted on Oct 31 under a Korean name, "최예린", but it's written in English:

It feels like my head is aligning with my senses. ("I feel like my head is lining up with my senses.")

A review on a cleaner app says this, and below it: "16 people found this review helpful."

That review is basically all of Super Cleaner. Nobody is really talking about it, and it doesn't need anyone to. It only needs to sit on the Korean Google Play tools chart for a few days. By then it had 44k total installs worldwide and 28 reviews against 44k installs, a ratio of about 0.06%. A normal app usually sits around 1% (estimate).

How it played out

It launched on Sep 15, and for the first 5 weeks it barely moved. AppstoreSpy estimated only 7,155 total installs by Oct 24. The next day it added 6,015. The curve after that (installs from Google Play after 10-28):

DateTotal installsKorea Tools free chart

In 12 days it gained about 37k, roughly 3,000 a day. It only charted in the Korean store. The store description was translated into Korean, but the name stayed in English, "Super Cleaner". After Nov 4 its rank kept falling, which suggests the ad budget was pulled (inference).

Three thousand installs a day gets you into the top 15 of the Korean tools chart. On the chart from Nov 3, the top 20 were mostly small tools also driven by paid acquisition: PDF readers, HWP (Korean document format) readers, and QR scanners. Super Cleaner was the highest-ranked cleaner app that day. There were no big players ahead of it, not because they were absent from Korea, but because they spread their spend across dozens of countries. The Korean-localized cleaner "폰클리너 - AI Cleaner" had 102M total installs and 780k new installs a week, yet it ranked only 137 on the Korean tools chart. CleanX added 510k a week and ranked 58. Super Cleaner put all its spend into one country, so it ranked above them.

What kind of company is behind it

The developer on the store page is called Cerkimot Enboopea, a name with no clear meaning. Its website cerkimo.cerkimotenboopea.com is a single page, written to justify a Google Ads API access request. The original text reads:

We develop and operate free Launcher applications with utility app features, monetize through in-app advertising, and use Google Ads to promote our own live applications.

Translated: build free tool apps, earn from in-app ads, and use Google Ads to buy installs for your own apps. The studio wrote its playbook on its front door.

Under the same developer account, 8 packages that have already gained traction are visible on Google Play, split by country:

The "More apps" section on the store page still lists a few newer packages that haven't gained traction yet: Clean Up: Make Room, Morning Sky Weather, and QR Scan: Read Any Code. AppInsider says it began releasing 13 packages from April 2026, and AppBrain counts 21, roughly 300k installs in total. The package prefixes differ (com.cer, com.cerkimot, com.pclean, com.zhoupdf, com.qrvyntrix), so it isn't obvious at a glance that they're from the same company.

The handoff in Korea is clear. SmartCleaner kept climbing until Oct 27 (about 88k installs), then started sliding from Oct 29 and fell to 155 in Nov 1. Super Cleaner launched on Oct 25 and took over. By the time Super Cleaner began to fall in Nov 4, Phone Cleaner: Storage Clean was already charting in Australia and the UK.

The company listed under "Developer info" on the store page is HAPPY HARMONY LIMITED, at George Street, Manchester 58–60. The UK Companies House record shows the company was formed in April 2023, with a business description of "licensed restaurant". That address is a teppanyaki restaurant in Manchester's Chinatown. The website runs on BytePlus (ByteDance's cloud) in Singapore. The most likely explanation is that a studio run mainly by a Chinese team borrowed or bought a small UK company's entity to open a Play "organization" developer account (inference). Organization accounts aren't subject to the personal-account requirement to "get 12 people to join a closed test for 14 days" before release, so new packages ship faster. If the account gets banned, only one entity is lost. This is a common move in the reskinned-tools scene, not unique to this studio.

Where the money comes from

There are no in-app purchases and no subscriptions, only ads. Cleaner apps are naturally suited to ads: there's an app-open ad at launch, a wait during scanning, a results page after the scan, and another page on exit, so an interstitial fits every step. The website says it builds "Launcher" apps. The same developer's PDF Reader & QR Scanner was named in Oct 22 by the Australian tech site TekOnline, which said it had "screen-covering pop-up ads" and explained how to uninstall it. Whether Super Cleaner has the same out-of-app pop-ups hasn't been verified.

The math only works if the ads a Korean user sees in the first few days are worth more than what Google charges to acquire that install. Korea has relatively high ad rates in Asia, which is a reason to pick it (common industry knowledge, not separately verified). No one has published how much was spent or earned. The speed of the rank drop looks more like the budget being switched on and off based on daily payback than like the play failing (inference).

Who it's competing with

Cleaners are one of the most crowded categories on Google Play. At the top is the system-level Files by Google (over 8B installs, free, no ads), along with Korean security brands V3 (AhnLab) and 알약, and below them older names like AVG, CCleaner, and Avast with hundreds of millions of installs. Super Cleaner doesn't compete at that level at all.

The real competition is studios running the same play. On the Korean tools chart in Nov 3, CleanUp (A Happy Labs) and PowerClean were both new packages released on Sep 30, each adding roughly 45k a week, more than Super Cleaner. Çağlar Türker's developer account has two cleaner packages, Turbo Cleaner and Clean Go, ranked #24 and #27. In Canada, France, and the Nordics, packages like Smart Clean Pro, Hyper Cleaner, and Quick Clean Space are doing the same thing. Nobody is specifically copying Super Cleaner, because it is itself copying a template common across the industry.

If it were you

One-line verdict: Don't copy this app. It has no product worth copying. What's worth learning is how it picks charts and rotates packages, ideally applied in a category that is less crowded and less saturated than cleaners.

Who it suits: small teams that already build Google Play tools, have ad monetization experience (AdMob, mediation) and Google App Promotion experience, can put up tens of thousands of dollars for test spend, and measure payback daily.

Who it doesn't suit: indie devs who have never run paid ads; people who want a product with word of mouth and long-term retention; anyone unwilling to risk account bans. The moat in this business is acquisition skill and capital. The product itself is barely worth anything.

How to do it: Find the chart first, then build the package. Look for "country × category" combinations where the top 20 are all small tools, a few thousand installs a day is enough to get in, and ad rates are decent. Tools categories in Korea, Australia, Germany, and Canada are ready examples. Localize the store page, screenshots, and name into the local language, rather than just translating the description like Super Cleaner did. Prepare two or three packages for the same function and run them in separate countries. Once one package's acquisition cost starts rising, switch to the next. If you only take one lesson from this company, leave out three things: fake reviews, pop-ups that jump out of the app, and borrowed company entities. Those three are where Google Play bans happen most often, and the TekOnline article shows users and media are already watching.

How to get users: There's only one route: Google App Promotion (UAC) buying installs, targeted at a single country, with payback measured on ad revenue over the first three days, and stopping the same day if it doesn't pay back.

When to get in: There's no rush and no window. This play has been running for several years, and the Korean chart already has at least four or five competitors. Meanwhile Google Play's review and ad policies for "cleaner" and "booster" apps keep tightening, so it gets harder the later you enter.

Signs you've read it wrong: After a week of spend, ad revenue per user never catches up with the cost of an install; or the package is pulled within a few days and the developer account gets a warning. The first means competitors have already pushed up prices in that country and category. The second means you've picked up the parts of this playbook you shouldn't have.

Where users come from
  • Verified Google Ads acquisition (UAC): the developer website cerkimo.cerkimotenboopea.com states: monetize through in-app advertising, and use Google Ads to promote our own live applications; the whole site is an Google Ads API access request page. The googleads library can't find it because it isn't on the tracking list.
  • Verified Only the Korea TOOLS chart (low barrier, high ad rates): it has only charted in Korea. 11-03 reached TOOLS #13 at roughly 3,400 installs a day, the highest-ranked cleaner app on the Korean chart that day. The top 20 were mostly PDF / HWP / QR tools also driven by paid acquisition (googleplay v_chart). The description was translated into Korean.
  • Verified Multiple packages from one developer account rotated in relay: SmartCleaner on Korea TOOLS 10-29 #43 → 11-01 #155,10-31, after which installs stalled at about 100k; Super Cleaner launched on 10-25 and took over. From 11-04 Super Cleaner dropped off the chart, while Phone Cleaner: Storage Clean entered the Australia and UK charts. The same developer has 8 packages split by country (cleaners in Korea, PDF / QR in Australia and Germany).
  • Verified A borrowed UK company entity for the developer account: the Play page lists HAPPY HARMONY LIMITED as the legal entity (Companies House 14793242, SIC 56101, a licensed restaurant; the address is a restaurant in Manchester's Chinatown). The website is hosted on BytePlus Singapore, and the package-name prefixes are all different.
  • Inferred Incentivized or bought reviews: the Korean store shows 4.4 stars from 28 reviews against 44k installs. The top review is an English nonsense sentence by a Korean-named reviewer, with 16 "helpful" votes.
  • Inferred Content, creators, SEO, media: X (x-radar, 30 days) and TikTok search both show 0. The only negative press is a TekOnline article, and it is about a sibling app.

Why Super Cleaner (com.cer.supercleaner) made it onto the charts

Channel: Google Play | Developer: Cerkimot Enboopea (the Play page's developer info lists HAPPY HARMONY LIMITED as the legal entity, based in Manchester, UK) | Research date: 2026-11-06

Bottom line

It doesn't win on the product. It wins on the playbook. This shell studio (Cerkimot Enboopea, which in six months charted 13–21 reskinned cleaner, recovery, PDF, and QR apps) states on its own website that it monetizes through in-app ads and uses Google Ads to promote its own apps. In late October they moved the Korean paid-acquisition budget from the old SmartCleaner package to the new Super Cleaner, at roughly 3,000–3,500 installs a day, and pushed it to #13–18 on the low-barrier Korean TOOLS Top Free chart. After Nov 4 it slid to #73, which suggests the budget was pulled. The "#73" we saw at recall was the rank during the decline; its peak was #13.

The pinned review is by a Korean-named user ("최예린") and is an English nonsense sentence, "It feels like my head is aligning with my senses." It has 16 "helpful" votes, which looks manufactured.
  • The library shows ad_supported=False and offers_iap=False, yet the developer's own website says they monetize through in-app ads (see section 4). So the ad_supported field can't be trusted.
  • The current version is 1.4,10-29 and its update notes just say "Fixed some issues."

2. Competitors: who else does the same thing

Phone cleaners are one of the most crowded categories on Google Play. These apps were on the same Korea TOOLS chart or in the global cleaner space at the same time (googleplay library, 11-03 Korea TOOLS Top Free and app_profile from 11-06):

Takeaway: Super Cleaner is not stronger than its competitors on features, brand, or scale. It ranks above CleanX and AI Cleaner on the Korea TOOLS chart not because it has more users (it has only 40k installs worldwide), but because its installs are concentrated in that one country, and in those few Korean days the new installs were enough. The same developer also runs several packages in rotation (see section 3).

3. Growth tactics: where users come from

3.1 Google Ads paid acquisition (admitted by the developer, confirmed)

Original text from the developer's site cerkimo.cerkimotenboopea.com:

"We develop and operate free Launcher applications with utility app features, monetize through in-app advertising, and use Google Ads to promote our own live applications."

The whole site exists to apply for Google Ads API access. It describes the internal reporting tool they use to track spend, clicks, and conversions. That suggests they run app promotion on Google at a scale matching the studio's size (UAC). Our googleads library returns nothing for them, by package or by legal entity. That is because the library only tracks products on its winners list, and they aren't on it. So a miss there does not mean they weren't spending.

3.2 Country choice: Korea TOOLS has a low bar and high ad prices

  • 11-03 The top 20 on the Korea TOOLS Top Free chart are almost all PDF / HWP readers and QR scanners, also driven by paid acquisition (googleplay v_chart). Super Cleaner reached #13 at roughly 3,000–3,500 installs a day, and was the highest-ranked cleaner app on the Korean chart that day.
  • Korean ad prices are high by Asian standards (common industry knowledge, not separately verified), which suits "buy installs, earn back through ads."
  • The store description was translated into Korean, but the name is still the English "Super Cleaner."

3.3 One developer account, several packages in rotation (confirmed, with data)

The same developer, Cerkimot Enboopea (googleplay app table; developer site, email [email protected], and sites.google privacy page all match), has 8 packages in the library:

PackageLaunchedInstalls (11-06)Main chart
SmartCleaner(com.cerkimot.cecleaner)08-17100,687Korea TOOLS 10-29 #43 → 11-01 #155, then fell off the charts; installs stalled at 10-31 (AppstoreSpy estimate)
Super Cleaner(com.cer.supercleaner)09-1543,967Korea TOOLS #13–18 (10-29 to 11-04)
JunkCleaner(com.cerkimot.junkcleaner)09-0818,997Tail of the Japan and UK TOOLS charts
Phone Cleaner: Storage Clean(com.pclean.photocleaner)09-288,002Entered Australia and UK TOOLS from 11-04, now rising
PDF Reader & QR Scanner(com.cerkimot.pdfreader)07-1672,554Australia TOOLS #10–20, Germany #30–47
PDF Viewer & Scanner(com.zhoupdf.viewer)07-2344,050Australia TOOLS #15–27
QR Scanner & Barcode Reader(com.qrvyntrix.scan)08-0696,163Germany, Australia, and Canada TOOLS
Quick QR Scanner(com.quickqr.scannerqr)09-1111,120Germany TOOLS
  • The handoff is clear: SmartCleaner kept climbing in Korea to 10-27 (about 88k), then started sliding from 10-29. Super Cleaner's paid acquisition opened on 10-25 and took over the top 20 spots on Korea TOOLS. After 11-04 Super Cleaner also began to decline, and at the same time Phone Cleaner: Storage Clean charted in Australia and the UK. The next package appears to have taken over (inferred).
  • Each package has a country assignment: Korea gets cleaners, while Australia and Germany get PDF / QR apps. The package-name prefixes are deliberately varied (com.cer, com.cerkimot, com.pclean, com.zhoupdf, com.qrvyntrix), so it is hard to tell at a glance that they are the same company.
  • AppInsider logs this developer shipping 13 packages since 2026-04-13 (file recovery first, then PDF, QR and cleaners); AppBrain counts 21 packages and about 300k installs. The developer page also lists a casual game, Candle Shield Tap (2026-03).

3.4 borrowed company developer account (confirmed; purpose inferred)

  • The Play listing's "Developer contact" reads HAPPY HARMONY LIMITED, 58-60 George Street, Manchester M1 4HF, UK, +44 7346 351286.
  • Checked the UK Companies House register: HAPPY HARMONY LIMITED (14793242) was incorporated 2023-04-11, with the registered activity SIC 56101 licensed restaurants, and director Wai Hong CHAN. The same address is Teppanyaki Chinatown, a restaurant in Manchester's Chinatown.
  • The developer website's server IP 101.47.20.107 belongs to BytePlus (ByteDance's cloud), Singapore (ipinfo).
  • Inference: this looks like a studio run mainly by a Chinese team that borrowed or bought the corporate registration of a small UK restaurant company to open a Play "organization" developer account. Organization accounts aren't subject to the personal-account rule of "12 testers for 14 days" before release, so new packages can go live quickly, and a ban only costs one entity. This is a common playbook for these app factories, not unique to this one.

3.5 incentivized or bought reviews (suspected)

The Korean store has 28 reviews averaging 4.4 stars, with the top one a vague English compliment from a Korean-named account that has 16 "helpful" votes. This resembles the review-padding seen in similar apps like Quick Clean Space. The sample is small, so it is recorded as suspected.

3.6 content, creators, SEO, or press: none

  • X (x-radar, last 30 days) search for "Cerkimot" and "Super Cleaner app" each returned 0 posts; TikTok search for "Cerkimot" returned no relevant videos.
  • The only press coverage is a negative piece from TekOnline (Australia) 2026-10-22, which names the same developer's PDF Reader & QR Scanner for "pop-up ads that cover the screen" and tells users to uninstall it. That's negative exposure, not an acquisition channel. But it confirms how they monetize: interstitials and off-app pop-ups. The developer's site describes its products as "Launcher applications," which also fits off-app ad formats like lock-screen and home-screen overlays (whether Super Cleaner itself runs off-app ads is unverified).

4. Where the money comes from

  • No in-app purchases or subscriptions (googleplay offers_iap=False).
  • The developer's website says it monetizes through "in-app advertising." The standard formats are app-open, interstitial, post-scan result-page and exit ads, plus Launcher-style off-app pop-ups. A sibling PDF app from the same developer has already been called out in the press for pop-up ads.
  • The math works if ad revenue per Korean user beats the Google UAC acquisition cost. A cleaner that scans and cleans on open gives an ad slot at nearly every step, so the first few days of ad revenue may cover the spend (inference; per-impression rates unverified). The rapid drop in rank suggests they switch budgets on and off based on daily payback.

5. Differentiation

There is no product differentiation. The listing only mentions "scan, preview before delete, file categories, battery info," which Files by Google and dozens of similar apps also offer. The real "edge" is all in the playbook:

  1. target one country only (Korea's TOOLS chart) and focus on one threshold: breaking into the top 20;
  2. run several packages under one developer account, split by country, and rotate in the next one when an app's acquisition efficiency declines;
  3. use a borrowed UK company entity, BytePlus servers, and garbled package names to reduce the fallout if one gets banned.

This is why it charts, but none of it is a moat: on the same Korean TOOLS chart, CleanUp, PowerClean and Turbo Cleaner, all new packages from the same period, use the same tactics.

6. Visibility

Almost nobody knows about it. Revenue is not public, and there is no founder, no social accounts, and zero presence on X and TikTok. The press coverage is a single negative TekOnline article that isn't even about this app. The category is already crowded with players using the same playbook, so "nobody knows about it" doesn't mean there's an opening; it means the playbook depends on staying unseen.

7. Copycats

No clones specifically copying it were found. The playbook itself is standard industry practice: on the Korean TOOLS chart over the same period, CleanUp (A Happy Labs), PowerClean, Turbo Cleaner and Clean Go (Çağlar Türker) are all cleaner packages launched in 2026 8 through September, using the same method to climb the charts.

8. What others can learn

  • Chart selection matters more than product selection: look for "country × category" combinations with low install thresholds and high ad CPMs, such as Korea TOOLS, Australia TOOLS, France TOOLS, or Nordics Productivity. Three thousand installs a day can get you into the top 20, while the app has less than 50k lifetime installs globally.
  • Rotate packages: prepare several functionally similar apps in advance, assign them to countries, and use the last few days of ad payback data to decide which one gets budget and when to swap.
  • Signals to track this playbook: one developer with several similar packages in the library that chart in non-overlapping countries; a very low ratio of reviews to installs; a developer website pointing to a Google Ads API application page; a legal entity and business activity on the Play listing that don't match.

9. Still unclear

  • How much was spent on acquisition, how much ad revenue came in, and whether it paid back (no public data).
  • Whether Super Cleaner itself runs off-app or lock-screen ads (TekOnline's complaint was about the sibling app PDF Reader).
  • Whether the 11-04 rank decline was a deliberate pullback or the result of Play or ad-platform restrictions.
  • The relationship between HAPPY HARMONY LIMITED and the studio (borrowed account, purchased account, or the same people).
  • How many of the 28 Korean reviews are fake.
