Nobody flies out to date: Cici got 1.05M installs in six months on a standard paid-acquisition machine
What it is A video chat app that pairs you with strangers around the world for 1 vs 1 video calls. Male users buy coins and pay by the minute. The store listing only calls it casual socializing.
Why it took off An Indonesian shell company bought ads at the same time in cheap markets like Indonesia, Brazil, and Eastern Europe. Starting in September it added budget, and monthly installs doubled. Paying users in Indonesia, Mexico, and other countries held up its Top Grossing ranks, and the math on paid acquisition works.
DHow you could approach it Indie developers shouldn't go head-to-head. Going-global teams that already have host supply and a payback model can learn its compliant packaging and multi-country rollout. Small teams are better off selling multilingual customer support, moderation, host recruiting, or ad creatives to apps like this.

Cici is a 1v1 video chat app on Google Play. The store says "casual chat, zero social pressure." In November it had 6 cumulative installs of 1.05M and charted in the social category in 26 countries. It has no new mechanic, and nobody online is talking about it. It's another new shell on an old business: male users buy coins and video chat with strangers around the world. Below: how it took off, where the money comes from, and why indie developers should only look at it.
A review with 34 people marking it helpful
On Sep 2026 13, a user named Winston Middlebrook left a one-star review on Cici's store page: "This app is garbage. It's trying to mix dating with girls from all over the world, but I don't think anyone has a plane to fly over and date them... and it makes you pay." 34 people marked it helpful, the most-liked review on the app.
Two days earlier, another user wrote something shorter: "Greedy business model. The ads are way off from what the app actually is." 15 people marked it helpful.
Developers replied to both with the same support template: "Sorry this didn't meet your expectations, please contact [email protected]." Sep 16 A five-star review that said "Great, I love this app 💯" got the same apology.
These three reviews pretty much sum up the app: users came in from ads, found out it costs money to video chat with strangers of the opposite sex, and the operator replies with templates in bulk.
What it actually is
It's the model of apps like Chamet and Tumile: male users top up coins and pay per minute for video calls with female users or contracted hosts, plus gifts, with the platform and hosts splitting the revenue (inferred from category norms; I didn't install the app to verify the billing details).
The publisher is a company called PT HAPPY SOLU DIGITAL in Bandung, Indonesia. The developer name on the store is "Alin happy soul," the contact email is a personal Gmail, and the address is Room 201A in a shared office building. Cici is the only app under this account.
How the 1.05M installs happened
The store lists August 4 as the launch date, but third-party install history shows it was already getting installs in late May. August 4 is more likely the day the listing was reset when the info was changed or the market was expanded. Counting from the real start, it has run for five and a half months.
| Date | Total installs |
|---|---|
| 06-03 | 12k |
| 07-09 | 53k |
| 08-04 | 111k |
| 09-04 | 219k |
| 10-04 | 565k |
| 11-03 | 1.01M |
| 11-06 | 1.05M, +7k in the last 170 days |
Installs roughly doubled each month, with a clear acceleration after mid-September. The curve is smooth, with no single day where a video or article caused a spike.
The ratings are more direct evidence. 1.05M installs produced only 1,945 ratings, a rating rate of 0.19%. The distribution is polarized: 1,319 five-star and 347 one-star ratings, with 0 three-star (Google Play, 11-06). Many installs, few ratings, almost no middle scores: that's what users brought in by ads look like, not what word of mouth looks like.
There's no buzz off-store either. Searching "cici app video chat" on TikTok returns almost only ByteDance's AI assistant Cici. On X, searching its website and full name over the last 60 days returned 0 posts. No media has written about it. I couldn't find which ad platform it runs on in public ad libraries, but that doesn't mean it isn't advertising.
The charts show where it's spreading: from October 29 to November 6, it appeared every day on the social Top Free charts in 24 to 26 countries. Its best rankings were #21 in Indonesia, #28 in Sweden, #29 in Brazil and Poland, and #33 in the Philippines. The US only landed between #109 and #153. The volume is coming from markets with cheap installs like Indonesia, Brazil, and Eastern Europe.
There's one coincidence I can't verify: "Cici" was originally the name of ByteDance's overseas AI assistant. That app was renamed Dola at the end of 2025 and had 288M installs. Some people searching "cici" in the store may have landed here (inference; I didn't verify how many).
Where the money comes from
Coins. Cici has already charted on social Top Grossing in several countries: Indonesia at #82 to #95, Mexico at #100 to #114, reached #62 in Argentina once, and sat between #137 and #188 in Turkey, Germany, Brazil, and Saudi Arabia (Google Play, 10-29 to 11-06). The ranks aren't high, but they show paying users are growing, with revenue mainly coming from Indonesia, Latin America, and the Middle East.
The math for this kind of app is simple: as long as a paying male user brings in more than the cost of buying a batch of installs, you can keep raising the budget. Its clear pickup after September most likely means that math worked out (inference). Revenue has not been disclosed.
Who it's competing with
This is one of the most crowded categories on Google Play.
| Type | Examples | Scale (cumulative installs) |
|---|---|---|
| Established leader | Azar, OmeTV, Tango, MICO | 89M to 387M |
| Mid-tier 1v1 video | Tigo, WeLive, Chato, Bling, Riff, Dico | 10M to 37M |
| New in the same period of 2026 | Vibra Live, Suka, Meli, Linko, Timo Lite, MeetJoy, Xun, and more than ten others | Most sit between 700k and 1.5M |
What's different about it
Nothing in the product. Random matching, video calls, and coins: the features match dozens of others. "Zero stress socializing" is just store packaging: it doesn't mention payments or video, which helps with review. The store name is localized by language. On the Egypt chart it's listed as "Cici - دردشة ممتعة" (Arabic for "enjoyable chat"). It's a single app, a personal email, an Indonesian company, so if one account gets banned, the loss is limited. It got this far through ad buying and operations, not the product.
If it were you
Verdict: D. The business makes money, but the things it makes money with are likely out of reach for indie developers: a video calling and billing backend, stable host or female-user supply, and an ad budget and payback model strong enough for multi-country buying. Cici is one of dozens of new shells that appear in this category every month, and there's no gap here that a product could squeeze into.
Who it suits: teams already doing going-global 1v1 video or live social apps, with host supply and payback data in hand. For you, the playbook is what's worth noting: write the store copy as "casual dating," localize the store name by language, push into cheap markets like Indonesia, Brazil, and Eastern Europe to get volume first, then collect money in Indonesia, Latin America, and the Middle East.
Who it doesn't suit: indie developers with 1 to 3 people, those without host resources, and anyone unwilling to handle 17+ stranger video content moderation and payment risk control.
How to do it (if you really want to): Don't go head-on against 1v1 video. If you're interested in this pool, build what it's missing. The first few reviews already say it: users feel scammed by ads, and support only sends templates. Sell multilingual support and moderation, host recruiting and training, or ad creatives to these teams, rather than competing with them for users (inference; demand size not verified).
How to get customers: The app itself only gets paid acquisition, so test one country's payback period first. A service for these teams gets clients through industry groups and referrals in the overseas social-app guild, agency, and paid-acquisition circles, not through the store.
How soon: There's no clear deadline. How long this play lasts depends on whether Google Play tightens review of "store says dating, actually paid companionship chat."
What would mean we're wrong: ① If Cici or a same-period app starts getting organic discussion on TikTok or Reddit, with a jump in growth that isn't paid, the category has product room left. ② If within the year a small team with no host supply breaks into the top 50 of the social Top Grossing chart with a new mechanic (e.g. AI or interest matching) 1v1 app. ③ The reverse: if Cici and a dozen similar new apps get pulled from the store one after another over two or three months, the platform is tightening, and the business itself needs recalculating.

Why Cici - Casual Chat & Relax (com.cici.android) came up
Channels: Google Play / social / Mature 17+ / in-app purchases $0.99–$99.99 each. Research date 2026-11-06.
Bottom line
Cici is a paid video chat app dressed up as "zero-pressure friend-making." Its 1v1 build has coin-based in-app purchases, and its terms describe it as "a real-time video chat and social matching platform designed for adults." It's published by the Indonesian shell company PT HAPPY SOLU DIGITAL. It's making money not because the product is different, but because this category runs on a standard playbook: paid acquisition + multi-language localization + spreading ads across many countries at once, with paying male users buying coins to earn back the spend. The growth curve rises steadily with no sign of a natural breakout. In this category, dozens of identical apps launch every month doing the same thing.
1. What it is
- The store description only talks about "relaxed chatting, making new friends, zero social pressure," and the screenshots include a "Video Chat" tab (the cici.ink homepage screenshots are labeled Explore / Discover / Video Chat / Chat / New Friends). Sources: Play listing page, www.cici.ink/
- The cici.ink terms of service indexed by a search engine say: "Cici is a real-time video chat and social matching platform designed exclusively for adults" (from the search result summary for
cici.ink; r.jina.ai returned the homepage rather than the terms page, so the original text is unverified). - Rated Mature 17+, tagged "Users Interact, In-App Purchases"; in-app purchases $0.99–$99.99 each (googleplay library app_snap); no ads (ad_supported=False). Money comes from in-app coin purchases, not ads.
- User reviews: "this app is beyond trash it's definitely trying to mix dating with all of the girls around the world… plus it makes you pay" (34 people found this useful, 2026-09-13); "greedy business model. ads nowhere near the real app experience." (2026-09-11). This fits the same pattern as Chamet / Tumile / MICO, where men pay and women hosts chat with them, a 1v1 video chat model (inferred from the reviews; the apps were not installed to verify).
- Developer: "Alin happy soul". Legal entity: PT HAPPY SOLU DIGITAL (an Indonesian PT). Contact is a gmail address ([email protected]), and the support email is [email protected]. This developer has only this one app in our Google Play database (app table). Shipping a 1v1 video social app under an Indonesian, Hong Kong, or Singapore shell company and a "XX Team"-style developer name is a common move for China-based entertainment teams going global. We couldn't confirm who is actually behind this one.
2. Growth data
- The real launch predates the store listing: the store lists the first release date as 2026-08-04, but the library's AppstoreSpy backfilled history shows installs from 2026-05-21 (googleplay library app_day_ext); Sensor Tower's Pakistan social chart page also already had Cici (search result summary) by 2026-08-01. 2026-08-04 is likely the date that got reset when the info was changed / regions were expanded.
- Cumulative installs (googleplay library app_day_ext / app_snap):
| Date | Total installs |
|---|---|
| 2026-06-03 | 12k |
| 2026-07-09 | 53k |
| 2026-08-04 | 111k |
| 2026-09-04 | 219k |
| 2026-10-04 | 565k |
| 2026-11-03 | 1.01M |
| 2026-11-06 | 1.05M |
Roughly doubling each month. Volume started ramping in mid-September (9-16, 9-27, 10-03, 10-08 each show a 3–60k jump at a single observation point); the last 7 days added about 170k (data card installs_gain_7d=169,579), and in the last 3 days it fell back to 1.1–13k per day.
- Very few ratings: 1.05M installs but only 1,945 ratings (0.19%), with 16–45 new per day. The distribution is polarized at both ends: 5-star 1,319, 1-star 347, 3-star 0 (2026-11-06 app_snap histogram). This shape, lots of installs, few ratings, almost no middle scores, matches users bought through ads, not organic word of mouth.
- Charts: 2026-10-29 to 11-06, appearing daily on the social Top Free chart in 24–26 countries, best ranks: Indonesia 21, Sweden 28, Brazil 29, Poland 29, Philippines 33, Italy / France 34, Saudi Arabia 35; US 109–153. Social Top Grossing: Indonesia 82–95, Mexico 100–114, Argentina 62 (only one day), Turkey 137–157, Germany 154–161, Brazil 156–170, Saudi Arabia 163–188 (googleplay library chart_rank). This shows it has started collecting money from paying users, but volume is small, with revenue in Indonesia, Mexico, Latin America, and the Middle East.
- Localization: the Egyptian social chart shows the Arabic name "Cici - دردشة ممتعة" (Sensor Tower search summary), meaning the store listing is localized by language.
3. Growth tactics (where users come from)
| Channel | Evidence | Confirmed? |
|---|---|---|
| Paid acquisition (ad networks / Google UAC / Meta-type) | A review says it outright: "ads nowhere near the real app experience" (creatives don't match the actual app); the install curve accelerates steadily, and the rating rate is only 0.19%; it's charted in 26 countries at once, with zero content-side buzz. | Paid acquisition itself is confirmed (reviews + pattern); the specific platform it runs on is not confirmed |
| Google Ads Transparency Center | Our googleads library was checked for 2026-11-04; result no_ads: searching "cici" by name returns same-named unrelated apps, and the legal entity PT HAPPY SOLU DIGITAL was not searched. Apps like this often advertise through agency accounts or other entities, so not finding it doesn't mean it isn't advertising. | Unconfirmed |
| TikTok ads (Europe) | Checked the tiktokads library for 2026-11-04; no ads going back 365 days. | No TikTok ads in Europe |
| Meta ads | No such Page appears in the metaads library, but that library only tracks Pages on its list, so it isn't evidence either way | Unknown |
| Influencers / content (TikTok, X, Reddit) | TikHub search for "cici app video chat" returned almost entirely ByteDance's Cici AI and other AI companion apps; x-radar searches for cici.ink and "Cici Casual Chat" each returned 60 posts in 0 days. | No evidence |
| Name riding (possible) | "Cici" was originally the name of ByteDance's overseas AI assistant, which was renamed Dola at the end of 2025 (com.larus.wolf, 288M installs; Vodafone and Statista pages both say "formerly Cici"). People still searching for "cici" may land on this same-named app. | Speculation, unverified |
| Multilingual store ASO | Arabic store name and other localization | Partly confirmed |
Where the money comes from: male users buy coins, and calls or gifts with hosts / female users are charged per minute (inferred from category convention and the review "it makes you pay"). It's already in the top 100 of social Top Grossing in Indonesia, Mexico, and elsewhere, suggesting ROI roughly works, which is why ad spend is being increased after September.
4. Competitors
This is one of the most crowded categories on Google Play. What we can see directly in the library:
Established leaders (googleplay library, cumulative installs / new installs over the last 7 days)
- Azar (Hyperconnect / Match Group): 293M / 237k, top Social grossing in Italy 48
- OmeTV: 254M / 968k
- Tango: 387M / 513k, #8 Social grossing in Turkey
- MICO: 89M; Who (Media Republic): 61M; Omega / Camsea (HOLLA Group): 51M / 21M; Monkey: 25M; Joi (VLMedia): 22M
- Mid-tier 1v1 video: Tigo (37M), WeLive (26M), Bling (17M), Chato (18M), Riff (15.5M, listed for about 1.5 years, #46 Social grossing in Saudi Arabia), Dico (10.8M), ChaloJi (11.2M, listed 16 months)
Launched around the same time, same playbook (listed under 200 days, ≥7k new installs in the last 50 days, Social category)
- Vibra Live: Go Live (123 days, 1.31M, charted in 28 countries)
- Suka - Live Stream, Chat (102 days, 1.43M, 28 countries)
- Meli (154 days, 1.5M, 23 countries)
- Linko - Random Video Chat (149 days, 1.11M, developer Ratna Dhita, also an Indonesian name)
- Timo Lite (37 days, 730k, up 7k in 350 days)
- MeetJoy, Ruyo (same company, metaztech), Xun (26 countries), Gavo, Bandi, Vazuno, MasaCall, Minemo, Roost, Tello, and others
Big-tech features: Instagram / Facebook / TikTok live streams and DMs, Telegram nearby people. But paying to do 1v1 video calls with strangers of the opposite sex is something big tech doesn't do.
Versus competitors: No visible product differentiation. The features are all random matching / video calls / coins. Cici just repackages its store copy as "zero-pressure casual chat" to get past Play review and reach 17+ instead of a stricter rating. Its scale among new launches (1.05M, 26 countries) is mid-to-upper, not outstanding.
5. How many people know about it
- Revenue isn't public, and I found no discussion in media, on X, or on Reddit (x-radar 0 posts). The only places it shows up are auto-generated chart pages on Sensor Tower, Appfigures, AppBrain, Similarweb, and Applyra.
- But the category itself is well known and crowded: at the same time, more than a dozen nearly identical new apps were climbing multi-country charts. To outsiders, "Cici" is an unknown product; people in the category all know this business.
6. Why it charted
- A standard paid-acquisition machine for a mature category: 1v1 paid video chat is a proven monetization model (Azar, Tango, MICO, Chamet). A new app just needs its LTV per paying male user to exceed CPI to keep scaling. Cici has already reached Social grossing charts in countries like Indonesia and Mexico, and scaling picked up clearly after September.
- Simultaneous multi-country rollout, targeting low-cost countries: charted in 26 countries. The best ranks are in cheap-install markets like Indonesia, Brazil, the Philippines, Poland, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. The US only ranks in the low hundreds.
- Store packaging made compliant: copy only talks about "zero-pressure socializing" and doesn't mention paid companionship, lowering takedown risk. Store names are localized by language.
- Shell company + single-app developer account: single app, gmail, Indonesian PT. If banned, you only lose one account. This is common practice in the category.
- (Possibly) The name collides with ByteDance's Cici. After ByteDance's chatbot was renamed Dola, it may have picked up some of the "cici" search traffic. Not verified.
7. Differentiation
Basically none. "Zero Stress Socializing" is just marketing copy; the features match dozens of similar apps. It got traction through ads and operational execution (creatives, bidding, localization, host supply), not differentiation.
8. What others can learn
- Store launch dates get reset. When you see "hit 1M installs within 3 months of launch," check the real start date against historical data from tools like AppstoreSpy (this app has actually been running for 5.5 months).
- The 1v1 social playbook: compliant store copy + multilingual store names + seed volume in low-CPI countries first, then monetize in the Middle East, LatAm, and Indonesia.
- "Installs / ratings above 500, 3-star rating at 0" can serve as a quick signal for judging paid-acquisition-driven apps.
9. Still unclear
- Which ad platforms they spend on (Google UAC, Meta, AppLovin, Mintegral...). Not checked by legal entity name in the ad transparency centers.
- Who the team behind it is, and whether one company runs several disguised apps at once (e.g., any link to Linko, Vibra, or Suka).
- iOS version: AppBrain lists "Cici - Live Video Chat & Calls" (id 6768537798,88, with ratings), but the iTunes API returns nothing in the US, UK, Saudi Arabia or Indonesia stores, so it may have been pulled. Haven't verified whether it's the same company.
- How many users came for the ByteDance Cici name.
- Actual revenue and retention.
