# One match, 85k installs a day: how the "free live cricket" shell apps drive volume, and why you shouldn't follow them

**What it is** A Google Play shell app, listed under a recycled puzzle-game package name, that claims to stream cricket matches for free and makes money from app-open and interstitial ads.

**Why it took off** Expatriates in South Asia and the Gulf want to watch Indian matches for free. On match days the operator pushed traffic through three same-named listings at once, pushing into low-bar sports charts in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Hong Kong, then used a rating of only 4 and 5 stars to carry conversion.

**E** **How you could follow** Don't touch the pirated-stream layer. People building legit sports apps for scores, schedules, and reminders can borrow the approach of timing traffic bursts to the event calendar and first hitting the diaspora-community category charts.

Grade E: it earns from infringing live streams. In 2026 years, 82 similar apps have appeared; rights holders and Google remove them in batches during big tournaments, and each listing lives only months. The operator's previous listing is already gone, so following means constantly swapping listings. Few people know about it yet

Data (updated daily) · first launch 2026-07-25 · 11-07 installs 329,593

Android · Total installs worldwide

Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.

Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations)

Nov 1, India played game 5 of the T20 series in Hamilton, New Zealand. That same day, an app called Cricket Live TV HD Streaming on Google Play jumped from 244k to 329k installs, adding 85k in a single day. It had been listed for just over three months, shipped only one version, and had puzzle in its package name, since it was originally a puzzle game. This piece breaks down where the traffic came from, where the money comes from, who's behind it, and why this business is easy to understand but not worth copying.

### What it is

The store page reads "your one-stop destination for cricket fans": live streams ("where available"), ball-by-ball scores, schedules, points tables. The last paragraph of the description is a disclaimer: "This app does not own or host any video content, and only provides access to publicly available content or third-party sources." The developer is Lumora Technologies, listed 2026-07-25, with no updates since 7-26 (Google Play store page, 11-06).

Users want one thing: to watch India and Pakistan matches on their phone, free, with no subscription. The top-liked review is from Sep 15 by Anand Lokhande: "Amazing app...plays matches without any interruptions", 521 people found it helpful; SAYAN SEN wrote "Free, no subscription, watch matches anytime", 243 people found it helpful. The other side: a user from Oct 14 wrote: "This app has too many unskippable ads, it's terrible." (Google Play review, 11-06)

The money is in that negative review. The store listing says it contains ads and no in-app purchases. The app-ads.txt file on the developer's site starts with "CAS.ai Updated Nov 05, 2026" and lists 13 AdMob publisher IDs, plus Meta Audience Network, Pangle, IronSource and other ad networks. Watching a T20 takes over three hours, with app-open, interstitial and banner ads rotating; per-user eCPM is low (users are mostly in the Gulf and South Asia, estimated), so it runs on volume.

### Installs rose in steps

Its install curve isn't a slope, it's a staircase, and each step lines up with an India match:

| Timeline | Total installs | What was being played those days |
|---|---|---|
| 08-22 → 09-16 | 1,600 → 2,000 | Almost no installs |
| 09-16 → 09-25 | 2,000 → 28.5k | Asian Games men's cricket 9-24 begins |
| 09-30 → 10-07 | 28.7k → 231k | India vs West Indies home T20, first match 10-06 in Lucknow |
| 10-07 → 10-28 | 231k → 244k | Quiet |
| 10-31 → 11-01 | 244k → 329k | India vs New Zealand in Hamilton, T20 match 5 |

Source: before November, third-party estimates (AppstoreSpy); from November, Google Play install counts, 11-06. Schedules from ESPN, Cricinfo, Wikipedia. Play install counts are sometimes refreshed in batches, so step dates may be off by a day or two.

What's more telling: the same developer has two nearly identical apps, Cricket Live TV and Cricket Live TV Streaming, with package names also taken from repurposed puzzle games (puzzle.games.rj.studios, puzzle.game.arrow.escape). The three apps jumped together over the same days: Cricket Live TV went from 47k to 168k between 10-06 and 10-09, then from 179k to 256k between 10-28 and 11-01; Cricket Live TV Streaming gained 650k over two days from Sep 17 to 19. Combined, the three total about 1.34M installs. Surges that hit all three apps on the same days likely come from one source, probably the same paid campaign or links shared in the same Telegram, WhatsApp or Facebook groups (which one is unverified). Organic store search can't produce this shape.

### Which charts it hit: it targets low-bar small markets

11-06 On Google Play's free Sports chart it ranked #6 in the UAE, #40 in Hong Kong, #61 in Saudi Arabia, #78 in Malaysia; 10-29 it ranked #38 in Singapore. It has never charted in the India store, even though the reviews are mostly from Indian names.

The reason is easy to guess: India's Sports chart is packed with dozens of similar apps and is hard to crack; the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong and Malaysia have large South Asian expat populations, but their charts have much lower thresholds, so a few tens of thousands of concentrated installs can put you in the top ten, and placing there gets you a bit more store exposure (inferred).

### How the 4.83 rating came about

1,697 ratings, averaging 4.83. Broken down: in the daily rating distribution, 1-star, 2-star and 3-star each got 0 ratings, and the 4-star and 5-star shares stayed fixed at 1:5 (10-29 is 211, 1,055,11-06 is 282, 1,414 is 3). On one day in November it gained 248 ratings, while installs that day rose by only 875.

An app people call "ads you can't skip" has not one 521-star rating in its last 1,700 ratings, which isn't normal. Maybe the rating prompt only shows to people who've already given high marks, or the ratings were bought; from the outside we can't tell (unverified). The pinned top review with 1 likes also looks inferred to be fake.

One more mismatch: the store's data safety section says it "collects no data and shares nothing with third parties," yet the app integrates a dozen or more ad networks, which usually read the advertising ID (inferred, not verified by installing).

### Who's behind it: taken down, then a new account

The privacy policy is hosted on nourozblue.xyz. That domain was used before: there was a package named com.nourozblue.starsports.tv.starsports, "Star Sports One Live Cricket," which now shows "no longer on Google Play" on third-party store pages. One claim online says a version of this operation reached 620k installs before being taken down in October (only a summary, unverified).

The developer site watchmylov.xyz is also the site of another developer, ScorePulse, which makes similar US sports apps (Dofu Stream, Zentro Sports). The app-ads.txt files on the sites of the other two accounts, durecrdure.me and jskapps2026.xyz, are identical word for word. Putting it together: an ad operator is copying the same template across multiple developer accounts and sports, recycling old puzzle-game package names to pass review, wrapping them in a streaming shell, concentrating traffic on match days, and switching to the next account when one is banned (medium confidence, inferred).

### Who it's competing with: 115

On Google Play, 115 apps have both "cric" and tv / stream / watch in their titles; 82 of them were published in the last 2026 years, together about 26.9M installs (Google Play, 11-06). It is itself one of the copycats:

| Competitors | Scale | How it differs |
|---|---|---|
| Live Cricket TV HD(VDM Technologies) | 2.93M installs, +220k in 7 days | Same template, launched earlier, more volume |
| Live Cricket TV Streaming(PixelGrid Studios) | 1.49M, 7 days +270k, #5 in India's Sports chart | The same shell, but it charted in the India store |
| Live Cricket TV HD(LiveZone Apps) | 10-17 launched, 7 days +116k, #2 in India's Sports chart | Launched three months later, grew faster |
| Live Cricket TV HD(SISHYAKULAM) | 10-12 launched, +128k | Same as above |
| Cricbuzz / CREX | 239M / 105M | Licensed score news, no streams |
| JioHotstar / FanCode | FanCode 73M | Licensed streams, mostly paid |
| Sideloaded apps like Cricfy | Not on the store | Real piracy; removed from Google Play in 2026 February, blocked by Play Protect |

It is no different from its peers in product: the name, description and disclaimer are all the same template. It ranks above some competitors purely on distribution.

### Why this window closes fast

Rights holders are moving. During the 2026 February T20 World Cup, Google removed Cricfy from Play and used Play Protect to block already-sideloaded installs (theend.africa); during the same World Cup, JioStar got Google Play and the App Store to remove 36 IPTV apps (indiantelevision.com, 2026-03-04). Accounts like this probably last months, and its predecessor is already gone.

### If it were you

**E, don't touch.** It earns from the "free pirated streams" layer, which is both infringing and already crowded with 100 similar apps, and every major tournament brings a batch of takedowns. Follow it in and you get an account you'll have to replace every few months, and a developer account that can be banned at any time.

**Who it suits:** No one should copy the content layer. Only one kind of team can learn from it: those already building licensed sports apps or tournament tools (scores, schedules, reminders, fan communities) who want to borrow its distribution rhythm.

**Who it doesn't suit:** Anyone trying to grow with "free live streams"; anyone without multiple developer accounts who isn't prepared to keep replacing them (that's where the cost of this business sits); anyone building a long-term product who needs to keep older users.

**How to do it (borrow the playbook only, don't touch the content):** Apply its three moves to a legit product: ① Schedule paid acquisition around the sports calendar and push hard 1-2 days before each match, instead of spreading spend evenly; ② Go after the category charts in smaller stores with large expat populations and low chart thresholds (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore), and skip head-on fights in the India store; ③ Copy one ad-network setup across multiple sports and audiences. India vs New Zealand, various T20 leagues, and early-2027 events are all on the calendar, so there's a window every month.

**How it acquires users:** Paid campaigns around match days or fan-group links; its three steps all fall on the days India played. Reviews and charts both suggest the users are South Asian expats in the Gulf and Southeast Asia.

**How early you need to be:** For anyone borrowing the tactics, there's no deadline; for anyone copying the content, the window is already closing, and the next big tournament brings the next wave of takedowns.

**What would mean this read is wrong:** ① No batch takedown of this kind of app during the next major tournament (say the next IPL season), with Lumora's three accounts still growing after six months, which would mean the platforms are looser than assumed and the window is longer; ② Someone using the same distribution rhythm to build an app with no streams, only scores and reminders, that holds its place on Gulf sports charts, which would show the borrowed-tactics route really works and that the grade should move up from E. The evidence then would come from that app, not from this one.

Competitors

| Name | Where | Launched | Scale | How it differs from this one |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cricbuzz | Android | 2011 | 239M installs | Licensed score news, no streams; it sells the "free live streams" hook |
| CREX - Just Cricket | Android | 2017 | 105M installs | Licensed score news and live-score feeds, with a brand; no content capability of its own |
| FanCode / JioHotstar | Android | 2018 / - | FanCode 73M installs | Licensed streams, paid or subscription; it claims to be free, and its content comes from third-party sources |
| Willow TV | Android | 2014 | 600k installs, #10 in Canada's Sports Top Grossing | Licensed paid streaming aimed at North American expats; it targets the Gulf and South Asia and runs on ads |
| Live Cricket TV HD(VDM Technologies) | Android | 2025-02 | 2.93M installs, +220k in 7 days | Same template, launched earlier, larger volume; no product difference |
| Live Cricket TV Streaming(PixelGrid Studios) | Android | 2026-02 | 1.49M installs, 7 days +270k, #5 in India's Sports chart | The same shell, but able to chart in the India store; it charts only in small markets like the UAE and Saudi Arabia |
| Sideloaded pirated streams like Cricfy | Other | - | Large user base in India, Pakistan and Kenya | Real piracy, not on the store; 2026-02 removed by Google, Play Protect also blocking it; it stays in the store with a disclaimer as cover |

Where users come from

- Inferred **Concentrated installs driven by the tournament calendar (campaigns or external group links)** : the three apps' install steps line up with the 09-24 Asian Games, 10-06 India vs West Indies T20, and 11-01 India in New Zealand T20 match 5, and all three jumped on the same days

- **Confirmed** **Multi-account matrix + repurposed puzzle-game package names + reopened accounts after takedowns** : Lumora Technologies has 3 same-name accounts, all with puzzle package names; the previous account behind the nourozblue privacy-policy domain, Star Sports One, has been removed from Play

- Inferred **Rating padding** : 1–3 stars held a constant 0,4:5-star ratio 1:5; on one day 11-03 gained +248 ratings, while installs that day rose only +875

- Inferred **Store keyword search (ASO)** : the title and short description are stuffed with Live/Cricket/TV/HD/Streaming; how much this actually helps is unclear

- Inferred **TikTok/X/media** : nothing found on TikHub or x-radar

## Why Cricket Live TV HD Streaming (com.circ.puzzle.orgde.cric) is getting traction

> Store: Google Play | Developer: Lumora Technologies | First launched 2026-07-25 | Version 1.01 (no updates since 2026-07-26) | Research date 2026-11-06

### Bottom line

It didn't break out on its product. It's a grey-area "free cricket live" shell app. It pushes installs on high-traffic cricket days for South Asian fans (Asian Games cricket, India's home T20 series vs the West Indies, India's T20 series in New Zealand), uses a 5-star rating facade and a recycled puzzle-game package name to fill out its Play listing, and monetizes through interstitial/app-open ads aggregated by CAS.ai. The same operator runs at least 3 near-identical listings at once, and this niche is crowded with 100+ identical apps. It got going because of a sports calendar, a package-name matrix and ad aggregation, not because of differentiation.

### 1. Data (our googleplay library, 2026-11-06)

- Global cumulative installs **329,593** , +85,763 in the last 7 days; 1,697 ratings, averaging 4.83.

- **Installs come in steps, not a smooth curve** (AppstoreSpy estimates, app_day_ext table; the gap between two observations is spread evenly): | Period | Cumulative installs | What was on that week | |---|---|---| | 08-22 → 09-16 | 1.6k → 2.0k | Almost no one installing | | 09-16 → 09-25 | 2.0k → 28.5k | Asian Games men's cricket 9-24 starts (Wikipedia / olympics.com) | | 09-30 → 10-07 | 28.7k → **231k** (+200k in a week) | India vs West Indies home T20I, first match 10-06 in Lucknow (Facebook CricketClubHouse schedule post) | | 10-07 → 10-28 | 231k → 244k | Flat | | 10-31 → 11-01 | 244k → **329k** (+85k in a day) | 11-01 India play New Zealand in Hamilton, T20I series match 5 (ESPN India schedule) |

- **Two other listings from the same operator jumped together on the same days** :
    - com.puzzle.games.rj.studios (Cricket Live TV): 10-06→10-09 47k→168k; 10-28→11-01 179k→256k.
    - com.puzzle.game.arrow.escape (Cricket Live TV Streaming): 09-17→09-19 175→657k (+650k over two days); 11-01→11-02 +28k. All three surged on the same match days, which suggests the traffic came from one source (the same paid campaign, or the same external link/group referrals), not from each app being found organically in the store.

- Charts: only on the SPORTS Top Free category chart, never on the overall chart. 11-06 rankings: UAE #6, Hong Kong #40, Saudi Arabia #61, Malaysia #78; 10-29 hit #38 in Singapore (chart_rank table). **The India store never charted** , even though the store reviews are full of Indian names (Anand Lokhande, SAYAN SEN). India's sports charts are packed with dozens of similar apps, so the bar is too high. The stores where it did chart are ones with large South Asian diaspora populations and low chart thresholds.

- **The ratings look manufactured** : the histogram shows 1, 2 and 3-star ratings in exactly 0 each day, and the 4-star and 5-star shares are locked at 1:5 (10-29 is 211/1055,11-06 is 282/1414); on 11-03 it gained 248 ratings while installs that day rose only 875. For an app with interstitial ads, where reviews complain about "unskippable ads," not one of its 1697 ratings is a 1-star is abnormal. It could be that the rating prompt only shows to happy users, or that ratings were bought; we can't tell which (unverified). The top positive review pinned on the store page, "Amazing app...plays matches without any interruptions," has 521 "helpful" votes, which also looks gamed.

- Monetization: app_snap shows ads and no in-app purchases (ad_supported=True, offers_iap=False). The developer site lists watchmylov.xyz/app-ads.txt, whose header reads "CAS.ai Updated Nov 05, 2026" and lists 13 AdMob publisher IDs, plus Meta Audience Network, Pangle, IronSource and others. The other two listings, durecrdure.me and jskapps2026.xyz, host an **identical** app-ads.txt. So all three share one CAS.ai ad aggregation setup.

### 2. The operator and its matrix

- Lumora Technologies has 3 listings on Play (our database, plus the search summary on the AppBrain developer page), with roughly 1.34M installs combined. The package names are all recycled puzzle-game packages (puzzle.game.arrow.escape, puzzle.games.rj.studios, circ.puzzle.orgde.cric). The likely playbook: get a puzzle game through review or buy an existing old listing, then swap the content for cricket streaming. That sidesteps both the review risk for new package names and the cold-start problem for new listings.

- The three listings use two contact emails: itssabirhossain@gmail.com (this app) and hedatz.dev@gmail.com (the other two). The privacy policy is hosted at nourozblue.xyz.

- **The nourozblue domain was used before** : AppBrain lists com.nourozblue.starsports.tv.starsports (Star Sports One Live Cricket), now marked "No longer on Google Play." An AI summary on an Instagram hashtag page says "a Lumora Technologies version reached 620k installs and 4.5 stars before being removed from Google Play in October 2026" (only the summary's claim, unverified). So this is a **take down, relaunch** cycle: one listing gets banned and traffic moves to the next.

- watchmylov.xyz is also the website of another developer, ScorePulse. ScorePulse makes US sports apps like "Dofu Stream" and "Zentro Sports" (per AppBrain and appagg search results). It's reasonable to infer that the same ad operator or agency is copying one template across several developer accounts and several sports.

### 3. Competitors: this niche is crowded

In our Google Play database, **115** apps have "cric" in the title plus tv/stream/watch, and **82 of them launched in 2026** , with roughly 26.9M installs combined. The licensed and utility rivals are:

- **Cricbuzz** (239M installs), **CREX** (105M), Cricket Guru (74M): official scores and news, no streaming.

- **JioHotstar / FanCode** (FanCode 73M), **Willow TV** (600k, paid in North America): licensed streaming, mostly paid or subscription.

- **Tamasha** (76M, Pakistan): free streaming from a telecom operator.

- Similar shell apps (a few examples): Live Cricket TV HD (VDM Technologies, 2.93M, +7k in 220 days), Live Cricket TV HD (Hardik Dev Apps, 2.31M), Live Cricket TV Streaming (PixelGrid Studios, 1.49M, +7k in 270 days), Cricgenix (1.31M), Live Cricket TV HD (SkyPixel Apps, launched 2026-07, 570k, +7k in 230 days), Live Cricket TV HD (LiveZone Apps, launched only 2026-10-17, +7k in 116 days, #2 on the India sports chart), Live Cricket TV HD (SISHYAKULAM, launched 2026-10-12, +128k).

- Sideloaded "real" pirated streams: apps like Cricfy. During the 2026 T20 World Cup in February, Google pulled Cricfy from Play and used Play Protect to block installs of the sideloaded APK (theend.africa). During the T20 World Cup, JioStar had Google Play and the App Store take down 36 IPTV apps (indiantelevision.com, 2026-03-04).

Compared with the other shell apps, it has no product-level difference: the name, description and disclaimer ("does not own or host any video content") all follow the same template. It ranks higher than some of them because it charts in low-bar markets like the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong and Malaysia. It reaches those charts because its traffic lands on match days, not because the product is better.

### 4. Growth tactics

| Channel | Evidence | Confirmed? |
|---|---|---|
| Event-calendar-driven install bursts (paid campaigns, or external link/group referrals) | The listings' install steps line up with the Asian Games, India's home T20I series vs the West Indies, and game 5 of India's T20 series in New Zealand; three listings jumped on the same days | The timing match is confirmed; the specific channel is unverified |
| Package-name matrix + recycled old listings | The same developer has 3 near-identical listings under puzzle-game package names; an earlier one (nourozblue's Star Sports One) was removed | Confirmed (the install count of the removed listing is unverified) |
| Rating and review padding | 1–3 stars held a constant 0,4:5-star ratio 1:5; on one day 11-03 gained +248 ratings | The anomaly is confirmed; the method is unverified |
| Store search (keywords like Live Cricket TV) | Titles stuffed with keywords; how much ASO actually contributes is unclear | Not verified |
| TikTok / X / media | TikHub and x-radar searches for "cricket live tv app" over the past 30 days found nothing; no media coverage | None found |

Where the money comes from: interstitial, app-open and banner ads, served through the CAS.ai aggregation (AdMob plus several other networks). Viewers stay in the app for hours during a match, which means lots of ad impressions. The users are mostly in the Gulf and South Asia, so eCPMs are modest, and volume is what makes it work.

### 5. Visibility

Few people know about it yet. There's no media coverage, nothing on X or TikTok, no disclosed revenue, only machine-generated pages on AppBrain, Similarweb, Apptopia and APKPure. But the model itself is an open red ocean: 2026+ identical listings have piled in over 80 years.

### 6. What to take from it / Risks

- Takeaways: ① pace installs to the sports calendar and open several listings at once; ② go after charts in markets with concentrated diasporas and low chart bars (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Malaysia) for visibility; ③ copy one ad-aggregation template across multiple developer accounts and sports (the US sports apps share the same app-ads.txt domain).

- The risk, which is also its ceiling: rights holders (JioStar, and ICC's agent Copyright Integrity International) file mass takedowns during tournaments, and Google uses Play Protect to fight it too. These listings probably live only a few months, so you have to keep launching new ones. This is not a business that lasts, and we don't recommend copying the content layer.

### 7. Still unclear

- Whether the installs come from Google UAC / Meta campaigns or from external links in Telegram, WhatsApp and Facebook groups is unknown; our ad libraries don't cover these listings.

- Is "Live" actually piping pirated streams, or just scores plus outbound links to YouTube or other sources (APK 60.9MB, remote config pulling sources is likely)? Didn't install to check.

- Play's maxInstalls is sometimes updated in batches, so the exact date of each milestone may be off by 1–2 days.

- Install count and removal reason for the previous account, Star Sports One.
