Walk, collect lottery coupons: a small Korean company turned someone else's proven playbook into 100k installs with a referral code
What it is A Korean step-counting rewards app: walk, check in, and complete tasks to earn coupons, enter a weekly free draw based on real lottery numbers, and redeem prizes for 네이버페이 and various discount coupons.
Why it took off Inviting 1 people gives both sides 100 coupons each. Bloggers are glad to write about it, and one person can pull in hundreds. Then paid acquisition on similar points apps. The mid-tier prize pool is split evenly at a fixed amount, and the big jackpot almost never hits, so the cost of giving away coupons stays fixed no matter how many there are.
CHow you could approach it Don't build another one in Korea. Take the structure of real draw numbers + a fixed-split prize pool + generous referral rewards to a country with public lotteries, an active rewards-blogger scene, and laws that allow free draws. Check the regulations first.
- Data (updated daily) · first launch 2026-07-16 · 11-07 installs 105,021
Android · Total installs worldwide Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.
기프또 (Giftto) is a Korean step-counting app: walk, check in, and complete tasks each day to earn "redeemable coupons," then every Sunday enter a free draw using real 6/45 lotto and U.S. Mega Millions numbers. It didn't invent the format. 2025 years ago 럭키즈 had already taken it to 750k users and been written up in the media many times. 기프또 was built by a small company founded in 2026 March, reaching 105k Google Play installs in six months, powered by a very generous referral reward table fed into Korea's existing "앱테크" (earning small money with your phone) blogger circle. This piece covers why it can afford to give away so many coupons, where its users come from, and why it isn't really worth chasing in Korea right now.
After 381 people, there were none left
In 2026 Oct 10, a Naver blogger called "리뷰헌터 써보" posted a piece titled "After using 기프또 for 4 months, inviting 381 friends and getting 38,100 coupons, why is it now 0 people?"
She signed up in early June. Each invite gave both sides 100 coupons. By mid-September she had invited 301 people, and by early October 381. Then: "For more than a week, not a single new invite. ㅠㅠ" She said she'd keep using it: "I don't want to pay for lottery tickets myself. Walking to earn coupons is enough."
This post is basically the whole 기프또 story: growth came from referral codes, referral codes came from bloggers, and once the blogger circle saturated, growth slowed. On Google Play, from Oct 29 to Nov 2 it added roughly 1,200 installs a day, then from Nov 2 to 6 it dropped to about 300 a day (Google Play install counts, 11-06).
What it actually does
Open the app and the home screen is a step progress bar: 250 steps earn 1 coupons, climbing tier by tier to a full 2,500 steps for 25 coupons. Check-ins, lucky boxes, mini-games, watching ads, and installing other apps as tasks all earn more coupons.
The tickets go into a weekly draw. The numbers aren't generated by the app itself. They're the real draw results from Korea's 로또 6/45 and the US Mega Millions, with 1 and 10M won in Korean won. Unused tickets can go into a second draw called 「드로우」, which gives away 2,000 won in 네이버페이. There's also a weekly leaderboard: #1 gets 50k points, and the top 2,000 all win prizes. Points 1:1 can be redeemed for vouchers from 네이버페이, 이매득 (Emart24), 배민 (Baemin), and 올리브영 (Olive Young).
An iOS review states the pitch bluntly: "I don't play stingy 앱테크 that gives 1 to 10 won at a time… I can collect 800 coupons in a week." Traditional step apps like 캐시워크 (17M Play installs) pay only a few dozen won after ten thousand steps. 기프또 is going after the people who find that too little.
Why it can afford to be this generous
The prize structure makes it clear.
- The 1 and 2 prizes match real lottery numbers. The odds of hitting the 1 prize are about 1 in 8.14M, so it almost never happens.
- The 3 and 3.5 prizes are "1M points, split evenly among winners." When one blogger hit the 3.5 prize, they actually received 1,290 points.
In other words, the prize pool is a fixed amount each week. The more users and coupons there are, the less each person gets, and the company's cost doesn't change. The real cash outlays are the small 네이버페이 payouts in 드로우, the leaderboard, and invite-tier rewards. On the revenue side: incentivized ads, the 「참여하기」 task wall (users install other apps to earn coupons), and Coupang Partners shopping commissions. The website footer says it "earns commissions as part of the 쿠팡 파트너스 program." The app itself sells nothing, and the Play listing says it contains ads and no in-app purchases.
Public lottery numbers serve as the random source, so credibility comes free. The rewards look large while the cost stays fixed. This is the most worthwhile thing in the whole setup to learn.
Where the traffic comes from
Referral codes are the main channel. Inviting 1 people gives both sides 100 coupons each. Reach enough invites and you level up to 실버, 골드, 플래티넘, VIP, unlocking more draws. The invitee has to enter the code within 24 hours of signing up. This scale is enough for bloggers to think it's worth writing about. Codes are spread across Naver blogs, the 디시인사이드 앱테크 gallery, 뽐뿌, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and navigation sites that collect referral codes. Bloggers describe it as "new, so it's an empty house," meaning lots of rewards, few people competing for them. On 뽐뿌, one user says they play 겸사겸사, 럭키즈, 럭키캣, 기프또 and 모아픽 all at once. These are people who don't mind adding one more app.
Paid acquisition inside other rewards apps. Blogger minyrane wrote in Sep 28: "I've been doing a lot of 앱테크, and one ad kept showing up, and it was 기프또." It advertises inside apps where 앱테크 users gather, targeting people who already play this kind of game.
Hiring its own content makers. The company's listing on the job site 알바몬 describes the work as "rewards app content creation, viral marketing part-time," and in Nov 5 it was still recruiting 5 SNS content part-timers at 15,000 won per hour.
Facebook and Instagram. In Sep 14 the company's Facebook page posted a video: "Weekly prize up to 20M won! Love lotto but don't want to spend the money?" How much was spent on it wasn't found.
App store search (inferred). The listing is titled 「기프또 - 만보기 행운 앱테크」, stuffing in three trending search terms. The name itself is gift + 로또.
It can't be found on X or TikTok, and no media coverage was found.
It seems to rely on more than referral codes
The iOS Korean store has 661 ratings averaging 4.8 stars (App Store, 11-06). Many reviews are long, neatly worded positive reviews of several hundred characters, and several say things like "congrats on hitting Popular chart #1." Whether these are organized reviews hasn't been verified. In early November it climbed from #193 to #29 on the iOS Korean Health & Fitness free chart. The cause wasn't found. It looks like an ad burst or promotion (inferred).
On Google Play it only appeared on the Korean Health & Fitness free chart: 10-29 #17, 11-01 #31, 11-06 #20. It never entered the overall chart. Over the same period, two other new step apps, 맥스워크 (81k installs) and 마블워크 (53k), each grew by 7 more over 6,000 days, ranking #24 to #35. In Korea, that month, a few thousand installs in 7 days was enough to land in the top 20 to 35 of this chart, so the bar is low.
Who it's competing with
| Competitors | Scale | How it differs from 기프또 |
|---|---|---|
| 럭키즈 (spun off from 삼쩜삼's parent) | Launched 2025-02, 2k users in 100 months, 1k users and 750B won paid out cumulatively by 2; 810k Play installs | Pioneer of the category, 1 30M still rolling over, backed by large companies and media |
| 삼쩜삼 행운복권 | 1.7M people have taken part (2025-04) | Grows inside a tax-filing app with 9M installs, so it doesn't need to acquire users |
| 럭키캣 | Play 182k installs | Also walk-to-win draws, but bigger in scale |
| 겸사겸사 | Not verified | Endorsed by YouTuber 보겸, 1 30M |
| 초콜릿박스 | 83k Play installs, launched 2025-08 | Mainly random boxes, with draws on the side |
| 럭키또(SnapPlay) | iOS launched 2026-06-30, 74 ratings | Ad-watching number picks and instant-win lottery tickets, launched later than it |
| Older step apps such as 캐시워크 | Play 2.84M to 17M | Step counts convert to small points, no lottery |
What sets 기프또 apart is three things: it's the only one in its category that also draws Mega Millions; coupons start at 250 steps; and unused coupons can enter a second draw. Users in reviews call the Mega Millions part "what makes it different from the others." These features keep people who have five similar apps on one phone sticking around, and give bloggers something new to write about. But what pushed it to 100k was referral codes and paid acquisition, not these differences.
If it were you
One-line verdict: Copying this in Korea isn't worth it. The combination of real draw numbers + a fixed-split prize pool + generous referral rewards is worth taking, but run it in another country.
Who it suits: Teams that have built incentive or points apps, have ad monetization and task-wall channels, and understand the "earn small money with your phone" crowd in a particular country.
Who it doesn't suit: Anyone wanting to build another 행운테크 app in Korea. 럭키즈 and 삼쩜삼 have already validated the demand and been covered thoroughly in the media, new players keep entering as of 2026, and 기프또's own referral growth has already peaked. Without big-company traffic or influencer endorsements, it's hard to beat it on speed.
How to do it: Find a market that meets three conditions: national public lottery draws, an established "earn points" blogger scene, and local law that allows free draws. Japan's ポイ活 community and 宝くじ are one direction worth checking first (inferred). Build on 기프또's structure: cut tasks into very fine steps, tie the big prize to real draw numbers, split the mid-tier pool at a fixed amount, and bring money back in through incentivized ads, the task wall, and shopping commissions. Before launch, nail down local regulations on free coupon draws. In Korea, the app relies on the loophole that free coupons aren't real lottery tickets, and the regulator's stance hasn't been verified.
How to acquire users: Referral rewards must be large enough that a blogger will write a dedicated post. Give out the most in the first few months so bloggers have an "empty house" to promote. At the same time, buy ads inside similar points apps to reach people already playing.
Deadline: The referral window usually lasts only a few months. 기프또 went from June to early October. If you launch in another country, you need to saturate the blogger circle within the first three months.
What would show you're wrong: ① 기프또's daily installs rebound to over a thousand a day after November, meaning Korea isn't saturated and there's more room than this analysis suggests; ② Korea or the country you're entering classifies this kind of "free coupon draw" as a 射幸 (gambling-like) activity and the whole category gets shut down; ③ you try it in another country, send out referral codes, and bloggers don't pick them up, showing this approach depends on Korea's 앱테크 distribution network.

Why Giftto (Connecterra's pedometer lucky AppTech) is getting traction
- Package: com.connecterra.giftto (Google Play, Health & Fitness); iOS id6765598212 (Connecterra Inc.)
- Operator: Connecterra Co., Ltd., established 2026-03-13, CEO 김도연, based in Jangan-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul; business registration 573-88-03745; official site connecterra.kr is just a download page (sources: Albamon company page m.albamon.com/jobs/detail-company/guCdrhQ5RVH18KdVe29QCw==; connecterra.kr)

- Monetization: ads, no IAP (googleplay library ad_supported=True / offers_iap=False); also a "참여하기" offer wall and shopping cashback; the official site footer says "Coupang Partners commissions are received as part of our activities" (Coupang Partners affiliate commissions)
- Korea only, Korean language only; the developer has only this one app
Bottom line
Giftto is a follower in Korea's "lucky-tech" (walk + free lottery) niche. The mechanic is what 2025 years of Lucky-Z (split off from Samjeomsam's parent, Jarvis & Villains) proved: walk to earn tickets, then link real Lotto 6/45 numbers for draws. Giftto adds three tweaks: an extra US Mega Millions draw, step thresholds cut to 250–2,500 steps for stepped rewards, and unwon tickets can enter a "드로우" draw for Naver Pay. What really pushed it to 100k installs isn't these differences but a low-cost referral table (invite 1 people, both get 100 tickets + invite tiers) fed into Korea's established AppTech blogger ecosystem that already pushes referral codes, plus ads in other rewards apps, Facebook videos, and in-house content part-timers. The prize structure (1 tiers are nearly impossible to win on real lottery numbers, 3 tier with a ₩1M P is split among winners) keeps payouts fixed, which ads, the offer wall, and CPS commissions can cover, so they can afford to be generous with tickets. Growth slowed noticeably after late October.

- 7 days +6,061; but the first 4 days averaged about 1,200/day, and the last 4 days dropped to about 300/day, slowing down.
- Korea Health & Fitness free chart (chart_rank): 10-29 #17 → 11-01 #31 → 11-06 #20. It only charted in this one; it never reached the overall or top-grossing charts.
- Version 1.8.7 (11-04 update). Updates have been infrequent since May (9-23 is now 1.7.1, per APKPure), consistent with iOS reviews praising "fast responses from the team, improving with updates."
- Same-chart comparison (googleplay library, 11-06): 맥스워크 (Triggers, 2026-08-21 listed, 81,038,7 days +6,656, #35) and 마블워크 (53,096, +6,178, #24). This shows that in that month a new Korean pedometer-reward app could reach the top 20–35 of Health & Fitness with just a few thousand installs in 7 days, so the bar was low.

Judgment: No white space. The niche was validated and heavily covered by Lucky-Z and Samjeomsam 2025 years ago, and new users keep arriving 2026 years later. Giftto is one of the more active players in the second tier.
III. Growth tactics (how users are acquired)
- Referral codes + AppTech blogger ecosystem (verified, main channel)
- Rules: entering an invite code gives both sides 100 lottery tickets; inviting more people upgrades tiers (Silver, Gold, Platinum, VIP) and unlocks more draws (https://m.blog.naver.com/wkosin/224402132933). The invitee must enter the code within 24 hours of signing up.
- One blogger, "리뷰헌터 써보", signed up around 6-02, had 301 invites by mid-September, about 381 by early October, and collected 38,100 tickets; but "for over a week now, not a single new invite" (https://m.blog.naver.com/seob-o_nomad_factory/224411331518, m.blog.naver.com/seob-o_nomad_factory/224437394519). This matches the slowdown in installs we saw after late October.
- Referral codes are spread across Naver blogs (wkosin, yskaygo, minyrane, dkfka0226, etc.), the DCInside AppTech gallery (https://gall.dcinside.com/mgallery/board/view/?id=apptech&no=28693), the Ppomppu money board (users say they play Gyeomsagyeomsa/Lucky-Z/Lucky Cat/Giftto/Moapick at the same time), Instagram Reels ("link in bio"), YouTube Shorts, and SEO blogs like flowjung.com; there's also a dedicated referral-code directory, semo-apptech.vercel.app. Bloggers commonly write "the newest one is 빈집 (empty house)": lots of early giveaways and little competition is why they're willing to promote it.
- Ads placed in other rewards apps (verified to exist, specific channels unverified): blogger minyrane's words: "While grinding AppTech, one ad kept showing up. Giftto." (2026-09-28). This suggests it buys ads inside apps where AppTech users gather (offer walls and incentivized ad networks), targeting the same crowd directly.
- Facebook / Instagram (content verified, spend unverified): Connecterra's Facebook page 2026-09-14 video "Win up to ₩20000,000 every week! Love the lottery but hate spending money on it?"; the Instagram account connecterra_official has posted branded content since 6-04. Our Meta Ad Library didn't track this advertiser (not finding it doesn't mean it isn't running).
- In-house content team (verified): the company's registered business on Albamon is "rewards app content production and viral marketing part-time/freelance recruiting"; 11-05 is still hiring 5 SNS/Instagram/YouTube content part-timers at ₩15,000/hour (https://m.albamon.com/jobs/detail/120150358).
- Store search (inferred): The title stacks three high-search terms, 만보기 / 행운 / 앱테크, and the name 기프또 = gift + 로또.
- Seasonal events (confirmed): During the rainy season, "2,500 steps count as 10,000 steps"; later "2,000 steps count too"; and for Chuseok a 송편 만들기 mini-game. Lowering the daily bar keeps people coming back.
- None: Nothing turns up on X or TikTok (x-radar: 90 days, 0 posts; TikHub finds no relevant videos for 기프또). No media coverage found either.
IV. Why users stay
- "Chance to win" instead of "a few won": An iOS review reads "I don't use stingy 앱테크 apps that give 1-10 points each…I get 800 lottery tickets a week." The draw runs every Sunday at 10 a.m., a fixed reason to come back.
- Low bar: 250 steps earn 1 tickets, and 2,500 steps fill all 25. Compare 캐시워크, which asks for ten thousand steps.
- Something even when you lose: 1–6 and other coupons (4–6 issued), with unused coupons going into a 드로우 that draws Naver Pay 2,000 won. A weekly leaderboard hands out 1 and 50k P, and the top 2,000 all get rewards.
- Redeem 1:1 and the threshold is low :P Exchange for Naver Pay 2,000–10,000 won, and Emart/Baemin/Olive Young vouchers (blogger screenshots show 5,728P and 18,929P).
5. Where the money comes back from (why they can afford to give away coupons)
- Revenue: rewarded ads ("just leave the ad playing, it ends fast"), the 「참여하기」 offer wall of partner tasks (installs/CPA), and Coupang Partners CPS.
- Payouts are structurally capped: 1 and 2 use real 6/45 numbers with odds around 1/8.14M, so almost never pay out; 3 and 3.5 split a "1M P" jackpot evenly among winners, and creators have shown 3.5 actually receiving 1,290P. So the weekly prize pool is fixed: more users means less per person, and handing out more coupons doesn't raise costs. The real cash outflow is the small Naver Pay payouts from 드로우 and the leaderboard and invite-tier rewards.
6. Differentiation, and whether that's why it took off
- Points of difference: ① it draws both the Korean 로또 6/45 and the US Mega Millions (the only one in its category; a user review says "this is the difference from the others"); ② coupons unlock step by step from 250 steps; ③ unused coupons get a second chance in 「드로우」; ④ the 1 prize is 10M, smaller than 럭키즈's 30M, but "6 people all win something."
- Is that why it took off? It explains retention, not the initial growth. Users came via referral codes and 앱테크 community promotion, with a "install one more" mindset (a review: "I use other reward apps, but I'll try this one too"). The differentiators keep it on the phones of people who juggle several apps and give creators something new to write about. Growth came from referral reward design, the 앱테크 distribution network, and buying users inside rival apps.
7. Visibility
- No media coverage, no discussion on X or TikTok, and revenue is undisclosed. It spreads only through Korean 앱테크 bloggers and small communities like DCInside and Ppomppu.
- But the category itself (행운테크) has been covered extensively by the media (럭키즈, 삼쩜삼), and new entrants keep arriving.
VIII. Takeaways
- "Fixed prize pool + real lottery numbers": Public draw results serve as the random source (credibility for free), the jackpot almost never hits, and the pool is split per head. Rewards look huge while costs stay fixed, which suits any "free draw in exchange for attention" product.
- Referral rewards generous enough to make creators want to write about it: 100 tickets per person plus tiers, so one creator can bring in 300–400 people. But this kind of growth fades as the creator circle saturates (what we saw as October slowed down).
- Buying users inside similar apps: 앱테크 users run several apps at once, so poaching rivals' users is the cheapest acquisition.
- Finely sliced thresholds: a tier every 250 steps means even people who barely walk open the app every day.
9. Uncertain
- Real total users: Play 105k + iOS (661 ratings can't give an accurate download count); whether there are Web or other channels is unknown.
- Scale and channels of paid acquisition: which reward apps or ad networks it buys users through, and how much it spent on Meta, aren't findable.
- Whether the long positive iOS reviews are organized; which chart "Popular chart 1th" refers to couldn't be determined.
- Why it climbed from #193 to #29 on iOS in early November.
- Possible compliance risk around lottery/giveaway-style products (Korea's 사행성 rules). It sidesteps this by saying "free coupons ≠ real lottery," but the regulator's stance hasn't been verified.
