A package called "Korean recipes" pretends on Play to be Vietnam's most famous pirated-streaming football site
What it is An Android shell app that uses the name of Socolive, Vietnam's pirated football streaming site. The store listing describes it as a score tool, while the name sells free match viewing.
Why it took off Vietnamese users are in the habit of searching "socolive" directly on Play. The previous app with the same name was taken down in July; this one filled the gap in August and renamed itself in September, just as the new season started. In Vietnam's and Thailand's sports free charts, a few thousand installs is enough to reach the top 50.
EHow you could follow it Don't follow this app. What you can take is the method: find search demand that is large on the web but has no official app (such as Vietnamese local league scores or Vietnamese-language match reminders), then use Play search and the category charts to capture organic traffic.
- Data (updated daily) · first launch 2026-08-10 · 11-07 installs 8,882
Android · Total installs worldwide Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.
On Google Play there's an app called socolive, with package name recipeskoreans ("Korean recipes"). Its developer account belongs to a food export company in Karachi, Pakistan, but the support email points to the domain of ColaTV, another Vietnamese pirate streaming site. It has only 8,882 installs in total, yet it charts in the top 50 of the free sports charts in Thailand and Vietnam, simply because it holds a term Vietnamese users search every day. This piece covers how it got going, where the money comes from, and why this is not something to copy.
Sep 8, one email swapped
2026 Sep 8, the contact email on this app's Play listing changed from a personal Gmail to [email protected] (chrome-stats developer change log). colatv67.live is ColaTV's website, one of Vietnam's pirate football streaming sites. Over the next two or three days, 5 apps under the same developer account were updated to 1.0.0, named socolive, Xoilactv, Colatv, 90phut and thapcamtv, all brand names of Vietnamese pirate sports streaming sites.
Going back further: on Jul 15, the original socolive app on Play (package com.socolive.apps) was taken down (AppBrain). On Aug 10, this "Korean recipes" package was created. August was the Premier League kickoff, and in September it renamed itself and filled the gap.
What Socolive is and why people search it
Socolive is Vietnam's leading free football streaming site, with Vietnamese-language commentary. In January 2024, Vietnam's Ministry of Information and Communications published a list of 403 illegal websites, with Xôi Lạc and Socolive at the top (CafeF). Whenever one of its domains is blocked, it switches to another, with dozens of mirrors. VnExpress reported that these sites keep 20 domains on standby and can switch within 5 minutes.
It is also big on TikTok. The account socolive.24h posts player highlight clips, and in July 2024, during the European Championship, a training video reached 3M views (TikTok, 11-06 search). Another account, so.co.live.tv, has a video caption that reads: "Watch EURO free on SOCOLIVE, with 2024,90 professional commentators."
Users want three things from that line: free, Vietnamese commentary, and European league matches.
The term gained more value in 2026. From Feb 2, the leading pirate sites Xoilac, Vebo and Thập Cẩm went down together (Tinhte, ZNews). The legitimate K+ also went off air in Jan 1 (24h.com.vn). With the original brands gone, nobody was policing the names. By March, Tuổi Trẻ was asking why so many Xôi Lạc sites were still up, and all of them were impostors. Play's impostor apps came from the same situation.
Where the 8,882 installs came from
| Date | Total installs | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Early September | 10+ | apppage.net snapshot at the time |
| 10-26 | 5,871 | AppstoreSpy estimate |
| 10-31 | 7,789 | Google Play install data |
| 11-06 | 8,882 | Google Play install data, 7 days +3,010 |
Most installs came in between September and early November, right in the first months of the new season. There were two sources:
First, searching "socolive" in Play. Vietnamese users know the brand and search for it directly in Play. The earlier package with the same name had just been taken down, so the search returned this one. A third-party model estimates that 38% of its traffic comes from search and 47% from browsing (AppInsider, model estimate, unverified).
Second, the bar for category charts in small markets is very low. 11-06 It hit #48 on the Thailand Sports Top Free chart, #52 in Vietnam, and #124 in Malaysia; in Oct 23 it also charted #23 in Myanmar's Sports chart (AppWinners). In Vietnam, on the same day, its sister app Xoilactv was #19 on the Sports Top Free chart, with only 4,173 total installs. A few thousand installs is enough to chart, and once charted you get a bit more browse traffic. Thailand is already slipping: 10-29 is now at #25.
We found no evidence of ad buys, creator partnerships or press coverage. The store page has no rating, no reviews and no in-app purchases.
The store page describes scores, but the name sells live streaming
The opening of the store description (Google Play, 11-06) reads "Live streaming and real-time scores." The rest focuses on scores, schedules and standings. Live streaming gets a single line: "Provides links or signal sources for some popular matches." It is followed by a disclaimer: "Live links come from external sources, and their stability and legality are the responsibility of third parties." The data safety section says no data is collected or shared. The only permission requested is internet access, and the package is 21MB.
This is the standard wording these apps use to pass review. We did not install the package, so we cannot confirm whether the app actually contains a scores page or wraps ColaTV's web pages (unverified).
The developer, CPS EXPORTERS, is a real food and commodities export company in Karachi. Its LinkedIn lists 201–500 employees, and its address and phone number are public on Play. The 5 packages under its name are for recipes, hairstyles, cartoon videos and health checks, and Play's "similar apps" for it are all recipes and food delivery. The most likely scenario: an old, legitimate account was borrowed or sold to the piracy network, then used to publish unrelated apps before being rebranded (inference, no pre-rename snapshot obtained).
Where the money comes from
The money is not inside the app. In this sector it comes from outside: the live pages carry betting ads that send people to gambling sites. Vietnamese media reported that the teams behind XoilacTV and CakhiaTV took in 10 billion Vietnamese dong (about $134M) from gambling ads over roughly 5 months, diverted traffic to about 1,700 gambling sites, and caused at least 22 billion dong in losses to rights holders (CafeF, VTV). 30 people in the case are facing criminal charges.
So what one install of this app is worth depends on whether it is plugged into gambling traffic, and you cannot see that from the outside. 8,882 installs alone do not make a business under any calculation.
Who it's competing with
The same term has been passed from one Play listing to the next:
| Name | Scale (installs) | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Socolive - Tỷ số Bóng đá HD(GoalSync) | About 301k | 2025-04-03 removed |
| Socolive - Bóng đá trực tiếp (DevNext Labs, package is a ball-bouncing game) | About 36k | Still live |
| socolive(Teman Bertani) | — | 2026-07-15 removed |
| socolive(Chinonso13) | 194 | Still live |
| This socolive (the one in this article) | 8,882 | Still live (11-06) |
Data from chrome-stats, AppBrain and Google Play. There is also a string of copycats riding the Xôi Lạc brand: Xoilacz 172k, Xoilac - Bóng đá trực tiếp 38k, Xoilactv from another developer 21k, xoilac live 14k.
The legitimate options are FPT Play (23.5M), VTVcab ON (2.76M) and MyTV (2.3M), all paid. In the scores category there are Sofascore (108M) and AiScore (31.4M). TifoLive, listed in September, has already reached 600k and is #1 on Vietnam's sports chart, but it only does scores.
The previous generation of this app reached 30 times its size before being taken down. Under its own package name it does not rank. The product and its competitors follow the same template, and the only difference is that this one currently holds the name.
If it were you
Bottom line: Don't touch it. It sells a pirated brand name, backed by gambling traffic, and Vietnam is already arresting people through criminal cases. Each year or two a new group takes this slot on Play, and every one of them ends with a takedown.
Who it suits: No one. If you are already in this business and have a stack of borrowed accounts, you don't need this article.
Who it doesn't suit: Any indie developer with a single developer account who wants to build something that keeps users long-term and doesn't want copyright or gambling risk. Using someone else's brand name is itself grounds for a Play ban, and a single strike can take down the whole account along with every other app on it.
How to do it (if you must take something from this): What you can take is the method for finding gaps: look for a brand or need that has heavy search volume on the web but no official app. That search term in Play is traffic nobody owns. Then amplify it using the low bar of small-market category charts such as Vietnam, Thailand and Myanmar. The prerequisite is that the need is legitimate and you can build something real: for example, Vietnamese domestic league scores and schedules, Vietnamese-language match reminders, or an aggregator of licensed platform listings.
How to get users: Play search plus small-market category charts. Update titles and screenshots to match the match schedule, and send push notifications around match days.
When to get in: There is no window to talk about. Someone takes the Socolive term every season, and someone gets removed every season.
What would show this analysis was wrong: ① This package and its 4 sister packages survive the season without a takedown and installs climb into the hundreds of thousands. That would mean Play's review in this category is looser than it appears. ② A lightweight, legitimate Vietnamese app built around "free plus Vietnamese commentary," monetised with ads, takes off. That would be a real opportunity worth looking at again. ③ Conversely, if CPS EXPORTERS' whole account is banned within the year, that confirms the judgment in this piece.

Why socolive (com.cps_exporters.recipeskoreans) shows up on the charts
Channel: Google Play · Developer CPS EXPORTERS (PRIVATE) LIMITED (Karachi, Pakistan) · Research date 2026-11-06
One line
A Play shell app that borrows the brand name of Vietnam's top pirate football site, "Socolive." The developer account belongs to a Karachi food export company, the package is called recipeskoreans ("Korean recipes"), and about a month after launch the support email switched to the domain of another pirate site, ColaTV ([email protected]). Its growth came almost entirely from Vietnamese users searching "socolive" in Play, plus the low bar on Vietnam's and Thailand's free sports category charts. The scale is small (8,882 total installs, about 100–450 per day). It is not a product that "ran up" organically but a low-cost distribution node in Vietnam's pirate streaming ecosystem.
1. What the data says
- Total installs 8,882,7 days +3,010 (googleplay library app_profile, 2026-11-06). Historical data backfilled by AppstoreSpy: 10-26 5,871 → 10-30 7,789 → 11-02 8,158 → 11-04 8,783 → 11-05 8,882, with average daily gains between observations of 99–958 (app_day_ext, AppstoreSpy estimate).
- After the Sep 7 update, apppage.net was still showing "10+ downloads"; chrome-stats recorded 10-31 as 7,789. So most installs happened from mid-September to early November, right when the European football season starts (Premier League opens in August).
- Charts: Thailand Sports Free 10-29 #25 → 11-06 #48 (sliding down); Vietnam 59 → 52; Malaysia 124–200; AppWinners also logged it at #23 on Myanmar's sports chart 10-23 (googleplay library chart_rank; appwinners.eu).
- These category charts have a very low bar: on the same day, #19 on Vietnam's Sports Top Free was its sister app Xoilactv, which had only 4,173 installs in total (googleplay library v_chart, 11-06). Charting doesn't mean volume.
- No ratings, no reviews, no in-app purchases on the listing; the data safety section declares "no data collected or shared"; only the INTERNET permission is requested, package size 21MB, version 1.0.0 (Play listing; chrome-stats).
2. Competitors: who else is doing this
The underlying thing, "free football livestreams with Vietnamese commentary," is run by the pirate streaming sites themselves. On Play, it's a flood of lookalike apps riding their names, swapped out every few months.
| Name | Where | Launched | Scale | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Socolive website network (socolivex.win, socolive45.co, socolive09.co and dozens of other mirror domains) | Web | About 2020 years and up | One of Vietnam's top piracy streaming sites; 2024-01 When Vietnam's Ministry of Information and Communications published its list of 403 illegal sites, Xôi Lạc and Socolive ranked first (CafeF) | The original. | Score apps: AiScore 31.4M, Sofascore 108M, TifoLive 600k (listed in September, #1 on Vietnam Sports) | Android | — | googleplay library | Scores only, no livestreams. Socolive's store description is copied from score apps to get past review. |
Takeaway: competition is heavy, and it's the same model cycling through generations (the GoalSync generation got 300k installs before being delisted). This app doesn't rank among same-name apps.
3. Where users come from
- In-Play brand-search capture (main driver, strong evidence). Socolive is a household piracy brand in Vietnam: the TikTok account socolive.24h has single videos with 6M to 12M views (TikHub search "socolive"). When its website domains get blocked it switches, and it runs dozens of mirrors (VnExpress: a single piracy site has 20 backup domains and can switch in 5 minutes). Users search "socolive" directly in Play; the previous same-name app (com.socolive.apps) was delisted in Jul 15, which freed the name. AppInsider model estimates its traffic as 38% organic search, 47% browse, 15% paid (model estimate, unverified).
- Category chart exposure (secondary). The Sports Top Free charts in Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar and Malaysia have a low bar; a few thousand installs can reach the top 50, and charting then feeds some browse traffic.
- Piracy network driving its own traffic (speculative, unverified). The support email uses the domain colatv67.live, of the ColaTV piracy site, which suggests the app's operator is very likely in the same circle as ColaTV or works with it. But no Play download link was found on the colatv67.live homepage.
- No evidence found of ad buys, creator partnerships or media coverage. Our ad library doesn't track it.
4. How it's done (playbook breakdown)
- Borrowed old account + unrelated package names to pass review: the developer CPS EXPORTERS is a real food and commodity export company in Karachi (LinkedIn 201–500 employees), with its address and phone public on Play. Under this one account, 5 apps all use the same template: Xoilactv (KnowledgeBoxWiseGuide), socolive (recipeskoreans), Colatv (checkpulse, categorized as "Tools"), 90phut (beautiful.cartoon.videos.app), thapcamtv (cutbuzzstyle, the old APKPure description reads "hairstyle cuts"). Package names are all off-topic: recipes, hairstyles, cartoon videos. Play's "similar apps" suggestions are also all recipe and food-delivery apps. This suggests they were first listed under other themes and later renamed and re-skinned. That's an inference; no pre-rename snapshot was obtained.
- Timeline: 8-06 and 8-10 were registered first → from 9-06 to 9-08 five apps were updated together, through 1.0.0 → 9-08 socolive's contact email changed from [email protected] to [email protected] (chrome-stats "Publisher Change History").
- Store copy written as a score tool: the description lists scores, schedules and standings, and only says the livestream links are "provided by third parties, with legality the responsibility of the third party." It also declares zero data collection. All of this is aimed at passing review and lowering the risk of reports.
- Where the money comes from: the app has no in-app purchases, and ads fall outside what's declared on the store. Monetization for this kind of piracy happens off-store: betting ads on livestream pages and referral links to gambling sites. Vietnamese media reported that the XoilacTV and CakhiaTV teams received gambling ad revenue of 133.7 tỷ đồng over about 10 months (roughly 134B Vietnamese dong, roughly $5M), causing at least 22k billion dong in losses to rights holders and referring about 1,700 gambling sites (CafeF / Legal Newspaper / VTV). The value of any single install depends on whether gambling referrals can be placed inside the app. That is unverified.
- Portfolio spreads takedown risk: the same template covers 5 brand names (socolive, xoilac, cola, 90phut, thapcam, all Vietnamese piracy brands), so if one dies, others remain. But they all sit under one developer account, and if that account gets banned, the whole set goes down together.
5. Differentiation
The product itself has no differentiation: template, description, features, all identical to the lookalike apps. The only "edge" is holding the name "socolive" on Play: the previous same-name app was delisted in July, and this one filled the spot in August. It gets installs because of that, but it's a position anyone can copy and that can be taken away at any time. It isn't a moat.
6. How many people know about it / follow the trend
- No media or X mentions, and no public revenue, so few people know about it yet. The playbook itself is a familiar one in Vietnamese circles, though.
- Copycats are already plentiful (see the competitor table), and they rotate generation by generation: the GoalSync generation got 300k installs before being delisted, and the Teman Bertani generation was delisted in July.
7. What to borrow
- When a web brand has heavy search demand but no official app (or the official one has been forced offline), brand-name searches on Play become an unowned traffic pool. Low charting bars in small countries can amplify that pool.
- Using one template under one account to cover several brand names, hedging against any single app being delisted.
- But this path rides on piracy and gambling, with high legal risk (Vietnam is already pursuing criminal charges against 30 people from the Xôi Lạc team), high Play delisting risk and trademark risk. Copying it isn't recommended. What's worth keeping is the idea of looking for gaps: check whether a brand has search demand with no official app.
8. Uncertain
- What's actually inside the app: is it a WebView wrapping ColaTV's pages, or just scores? Does it show gambling ads? Not verified by installing.
- Where the Thai and Burmese traffic comes from (Socolive is a Vietnamese-language brand): possibly Vietnamese expats in Thailand and Myanmar, or Thai-language content in the app, or a small amount of paid acquisition. Unverified.
- What the app was before the rename, and whether the listing date was reset: no snapshot obtained.
- AppInsider's 15% paid-traffic figure is only a model estimate.
