# Two days paused, daily installs drop to 14: how a Vietnamese AI tarot app was "bought" to 140k installs

**What it is** An AI tarot and daily horoscope app: card draws, spreads, zodiac scores, plus 10 AI tarot readers with different personalities to chat with. Free, ad-supported.

**Why it took off** Not word of mouth. A Vietnamese publisher with an off-the-shelf pipeline bought installs in cheap markets like Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, and Indonesia through Facebook pages with fake personas. Once they stopped spending, new installs nearly vanished.

**D** **How you could follow it** Don't build a low-cost-market "AI tarot + ads" app. That space is packed. If you do build here, move toward Western subscriptions, make the AI reader a long-term companion with memory, or pick a local divination tradition that hasn't been covered yet.

Grade D: it's one copycat small fry among dozens of similar apps. Its growth is entirely paid, it drops to zero when spend stops, and the rivals launched the same day are 20× its size. The only thing to learn is the publisher's process for testing categories. Following this category isn't worth it. Almost nobody knows about it

Data (updated daily) · first launch 2026-10-12 · 11-07 installs 146,166

Android · Total installs worldwide

Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.

Vietnamese publisher Nuclear Man Oct 12 launched the AI tarot app "Horae: Tarot & Daily Horoscope" on Google Play. It got 146k installs in three weeks and has no ratings. Its curve goes up, then down: during the two days in late October when spend stopped, it added only 14 installs a day. This piece covers how it was built, how it was bought, why it's only a small player in its category, and where to start if you want to build a tarot app.

### Oct 27, a "travel blogger" page with a Thai name

On Oct 27 2026 at 7:45 a.m., a Facebook page called "คุณเจมส์ชอบเที่ยว" (Mr. James Loves Travel) posted a vertical video titled "Your Daily Cosmic Guide 🔮" with the caption:

> Discover your destiny with Horae! Get personalized AI tarot readings and daily horoscopes tailored just for you. ✨ Download now!

("Discover your destiny with Horae! AI tarot and daily horoscopes tailored to you. Download now!") By Nov 6 the video had 1,800 views and 15 reactions. The same page also posted a Chinese version titled "用Horae探索你的命运!" The page name suggests a Thai traveler, but its category is listed as "IT company."

The name, the category, and the content don't match. Small Google Play utility apps often buy installs this way: they use a page that looks like a real person as the advertiser, post a few multilingual creatives, and run ads in cheap markets.

### What it is

An AI tarot and daily horoscope tool. The official site's first screen reads "Ask the sun. Ask the moon. Ask the cards." Below it are four numbers: 78 Rider-Waite tarot cards, 6 spread types, 12 zodiac signs, and 10 AI tarot readers.

- **Daily card** : draw a card each morning, read the interpretation, have it read aloud, and switch languages.

- **Yes or no** : think of a question and draw a card for the answer.

- **Spreads** : three cards for love, three for money, three for past/present/future, and five for the year ahead.

- **Horoscope** : daily, weekly, and monthly readings, with six categories scored (health, wealth, family, love, career, marriage), plus lucky numbers, lucky colors, auspicious hours, and "times to be careful today."

- **Chat with an AI tarot reader** : 10 personas, including the mysterious Seraphina, the bestie-style Luna, the blunt Kael, the kind elder Olenka, and the rebellious witch Raven. When a reading is needed, the chat window has you flip three cards right there.

Free. The store listing says "Contains ads" and there are no in-app purchases. The last line of the store page reads: "AI specialists are AI-generated characters, not real people."

Among comparable apps of the same period, the feature set is complete but not new. Persona chat plus card draws had already become standard in AI tarot apps.

### The curve reflects switches, not word of mouth

| Date | Daily new installs |
|---|---|
| 10-21 ~ 10-26 | About 10k |
| 10-27 ~ 10-28 | 14 |
| 10-29 ~ 10-31 | About 17k |
| 11-01 ~ 11-03 | About 7,700 |
| 11-04 ~ 11-05 | About 4,000 |
| 11-06 | 3,748 |

Source: third-party estimates of Google Play installs, 11-06 cumulative 146,166.

The two days in the middle are what matter. The week before, it averaged 10k a day; the week after, 17k; in the middle two days, 14 a day. Organic traffic doesn't drop like that. It only happens when ad budget is switched off. The near-zero during the pause shows there was no organic floor, and store search barely brought in any installs.

One more detail: four apps under the same developer account, Oct 31 and Nov 3, rose on the same days. That looks like one ad account switching budgets on several apps at once *(inference)*.

It only charted in lifestyle-type free categories, across 23 countries. Its best ranks were #15 in Saudi Arabia, #18 in the UAE, #18 in Vietnam, #36 in India, and #50 in Indonesia, with sporadic appearances in Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, and Canada. It never reached the overall or Top Grossing charts. By Nov 6, it was still charting in only 7 countries, and Vietnam dropped from 18 to 31.

### Where the money comes from

The store only shows one revenue line: ads. Tarot and horoscope apps suit ad monetization well. Users open the app once every morning to draw a card, the AI chat lengthens each session, and there's room for interstitials and rewarded videos. Whether unlocking AI tarot reader chats requires watching rewarded videos is unverified.

In markets like Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, and Indonesia, the math for an app like this works out roughly like this: install cost is a few cents to a few dimes *(estimate)*. Users first watch a few ads. If ad revenue per install exceeds install cost, spend goes up; if not, it stops. The Oct 27 pause was most likely one such stop in a test cadence *(inference)*.

### Who is behind it

| App | Launched | Install (Google Play, 11-06) |
|---|---|---|
| NestAI: AI Home, Room Planner | 2026-06 (an earlier version existed as early as April) | 10.3M |
| Snaptou: AI Photo Editor | 2026-10-09 | 920k |
| Horae: Tarot & Daily Horoscope | 2026-10-12 | 146k |
| AI Palm Reading - Hastgy | 2026-10-23 | 31k |

The Nuclear Man developer account dates back to 2020. In its early years it had only two apps, about 500k installs total. This year it reached the 10M range with the AI home design app NestAI, and in October it launched three more in one month: photo editing, tarot, and palm reading.

Four of the apps came off one template: a single-page site on Netlify, the privacy policy on Google Sites, and an Outlook burner address as the contact. The logic is to spend three weeks testing install cost and retention for a category. If it works, add spend; if not, stop. Horae was just one test on this pipeline. 11 days after it launched, the same studio shipped a palm-reading app.

### Who it's competing with: dozens of apps in the same month

From 2026 6 through October, at least 30 new AI tarot, palm reading, and horoscope apps launched on Google Play, most from Vietnamese and Indian publishers.

| Competitors | Launched | Install (Google Play, 11-06) | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|
| AI Palm Reading(Kienmaly Mobi) | 10-12, same day as Horae | 2.89M, +7M in the last 1.57 days | Same gameplay, 20× Horae's installs; the same company also has the tarot app Zeva (590k) |
| Palmistry - AI Palm Reader(HoangSi) | 07-08 | 13.7M | Also a Vietnamese publisher with ad monetization, leading this wave with palm scanning |
| Reva - Personal AI Astrologer | 09-08 | 7.73M | Indian Vedic astrology with real chat features |
| Astro AI: Tarot & Horoscope | 09-02 | 2.64M | Also AI tarot plus horoscope chat, earlier than and bigger than Horae |
| A "Daily Tarot" template matrix | 06 ~ October | 30k ~ 2.14M per app | Dozens of developer accounts, all with the same Netlify site template, reskinned and scaled up |
| Tarot99 / Astro99 | 2025 | 10.1M / 16.1M | Indian AI astrology, a year earlier, two orders of magnitude bigger |
| Co–Star / The Pattern | 2017 ~ 2019 | 8.62M / 4.23M | Western subscriptions with branding, where one user is worth tens of dollars |

Further out are ChatGPT and Gemini: you can ask them for a reading directly. They lack the ritual of drawing cards and don't push daily horoscopes.

Kienmaly, which launched the same day, reached 2.89M, while Horae reached 146k. In this spend-driven race, Horae is in the low-spend tier, and it was itself a copycat entry.

### What's worth learning from it

The product has nothing special to learn from. Full spreads, zodiac scoring, and AI persona chat were all present in dozens of apps from the same period.

What's worth learning is the process behind it: **one account tests one category** . A single-page site, a Google Sites privacy policy, package names and titles stuffed with keywords (daily horoscope, tarot reading, yes or no tarot, love tarot), and Meta video ads in low-cost countries. In three weeks you learn whether a category pays back. If not, stop and move the budget to the next app. Nuclear Man tested three categories in one month, and the main cost was ad spend.

Another point is tarot itself: it's a 'open it once a day' ritual use case, a natural fit for ad monetization. An AI persona chat can extend session time in this category and leave room for paywalls.

### If it were you

**The verdict** : stop running 'AI tarot + ads' into the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Dozens of similar apps launched in the same month, and even Horae, a publisher with a ready-made production pipeline, only reached 140k. Learning the process for testing a category is enough.

**Who it suits** : small teams that already run an ad-monetized app and batch-test creatives on Meta, treating tarot as a cheap category to test once, and accepting that they stop if it doesn't work.

**Who it doesn't suit** : teams that can't buy traffic and are counting on organic store installs (Horae had only 14 installs a day after it stopped paid campaigns); anyone who wants a long-term branded tarot product but plans to recoup costs through interstitial ads alone.

**How to do it** : if you do build it, don't stand where it stands. Two paths: go up-market, launch subscriptions in the US and Europe, study Co–Star and The Pattern, make the AI tarot reader a character with memory who can chat over the long term, and charge weekly. Or go local: pick a fortune-telling tradition and language that Vietnamese studios haven't covered yet *(inferred, which markets are still empty is unverified)*. Either way, the home screen should have one hook feature (yes or no, one card a day), and the user should draw a card on first open.

**How to acquire users** : Facebook / Instagram Reels, vertical videos in the local language, with headlines that ask an emotional question directly (does he still love me, should I switch jobs). Test a dozen-plus creatives in one country with a small budget. Raise spend on the ones that earn back install costs within the first few opens, and kill the ones that don't within three weeks.

**When to move** : low-price-region AI tarot is already crowded, so there's no window to wait for. The subscription path isn't time-sensitive; it competes on how good the product is.

**Signs you've misread this** : ① after Horae stopped paid campaigns in mid-to-late November, daily installs still held at several thousand, which would mean tarot's organic search and retention are better than they look; ② Nuclear Man keeps adding budget and reaches a million installs, which would mean low-price ads can still pay back and the category isn't saturated; ③ one of the dozens of same-period apps charts in Top Grossing on subscriptions, which would mean 'AI tarot reader' can charge money and is worth doing seriously.

Where users come from

- **Verified** **Meta video ads (fake-name Page)** : a Thai-named Facebook Page 「คุณเจมส์ชอบเที่ยว」 10-27 posted a Horae video ad 「Your Daily Cosmic Guide… Download now!」, 1.8K views, with a Chinese version too; the metaads library did not track it

- **Verified** **Broad low-price-region spend (Middle East / Southeast Asia / India / Brazil)** : chart_rank: Saudi Arabia 15, UAE 18, Vietnam 18, India 36, Indonesia 50, and 23 countries in total on the free LIFESTYLE category chart

- **Verified** **Paid campaign on/off rhythm** : daily installs of only 10-27~28 14, with 1~17k/day before and after; four apps from the same developer jumped on the same day (app_day)

- Inferred **ASO keywords** : package name daily.horoscope.tarot.reading, description stuffed with daily / yes or no / love tarot and similar terms; but there's almost no organic traffic when paid campaigns are off

- Inferred **Google UAC** : common in low-price-region category charts, no direct evidence

- Inferred **TikTok / X / media** : TikHub 0 posts, x-radar 0 posts, web search turns up only APK sites and automated charts

## Why Horae: Tarot & Daily Horoscope (com.daily.horoscope.tarot.reading) was able to break out

> Channel: Google Play | Developer: Nuclear Man | Store launch 2026-10-12 | Cumulative global installs as of 2026-11-06: 146,166 (googleplay library)

### Bottom line

This isn't a tarot app that broke out on product merit. It's another new entry from a Vietnamese 'AI tools matrix' publisher (Nuclear Man, whose NestAI already has 10.3M installs), mass-produced with a mature pipeline and scaled through paid acquisition. The 'AI tarot / palm reading / astrology' category it sits in was crowded with dozens of similar publishers in the second half of 2026, and Horae is one of the smaller ones in that wave. Its 'growth' is a pulse from paid spend, not organic demand.

### 1. Data: growth comes in stepped pulses of spend

googleplay library `app_day` / `app_day_ext` (AppstoreSpy estimates):

| Date range | Average daily new installs |
|---|---|
| 10-21 ~ 10-26 | About 10,039/day (AppstoreSpy estimate, cumulative 60,260 as of 10-26) |
| 10-27 ~ 10-28 | 14/day (nearly stalled) |
| 10-29 ~ 10-31 | 16,983/day (cumulative as of 111,236) |
| 11-01 ~ 11-03 | 7,700 per day |
| 11-04 ~ 11-05 | 4,042 per day |
| 11-06 | 3,748 |

- The on-off-on-decay pattern is classic paid acquisition rhythm: spend goes up when the budget is on and drops to zero when it's off (10-27/28 with 14 daily growth over two days), with no organic traffic to hold it up. Over the last 7 days, 85,879 came mostly from the 10-29~31 push.

- No ratings (ratings = NULL) and no reviews in the library; the version has stayed at 1.0.3 (10-23 update); `offers_iap = False`, `ad_supported = True`: at the store level it monetizes through ads only, with no in-app purchases (app_snap 2026-10-29 ~ 11-06).

- Charted in 23 countries on the free LIFESTYLE category chart. Best ranks: Saudi Arabia 15, UAE 18, Vietnam 18, India 36, Indonesia 50, Sweden 61 (chart_rank). It has only charted in category charts, never in any overall or Top Grossing chart. 11-06 only 7 countries remain on the chart, and the ranks are falling (Vietnam dropped from 18 to 31).

### 2. Developer: a Vietnamese AI tools matrix

googleplay library `app` (4 apps under Nuclear Man, 11.4M installs in total):

| App | Launched | Installs | past 7 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| NestAI: AI Home, Room Planner | 2026-06-24 (APKPure lists it with version 1.2.4 2026-04 already there; the release date was reset) | 10,319,980 | 144,119 |
| Snaptou: AI Photo Editor | 2026-10-09 | 919,787 | 79,063 |
| Horae: Tarot & Daily Horoscope | 2026-10-12 | 146,166 | 85,879 |
| AI Palm Reading - Hastgy | 2026-10-23 | 31,407 | 25,364 |

The features are all one template: the website is a single `xxx.netlify.app` page, the privacy policy uses Google Sites, and the contact email is an Outlook alt `nuclear.backup.260126@...`. In October alone they published 3 new apps, and four of them had daily install jumps on the same day (10-31, 11-03). That means one ad account switching budgets on in bulk. AppBrain shows this developer account has existed for 2020 years, with only 2 apps and about 500k installs early on (from search snippets; the page was blocked by a captcha and couldn't be opened).

### 3. Growth tactics (evidence)

- **Meta video ads, run from a fake-name Page (confirmed)** : Facebook hosts a Horae video 「Your Daily Cosmic Guide 🔮 … Discover your destiny with Horae! … Download now!」. The publishing Page has the Thai name 「คุณเจมส์ชอบเที่ยว」 (roughly 'Mr. James Loves Travel'), posted 2026-10-27, with 1.8K views and 15 reactions. The same Page also has a Chinese version of the video (「用Horae探索你的命运!」). The Page category is 'Information technology company', which doesn't match the name. This is a common playbook for small Play apps: paid traffic through a fake-name Page. Source: facebook.com/61590614224738/videos/1037375109372082 (read via Jina). Our metaads library did not track this Page (the keyword list doesn't include tarot), so we have no count of active ads.

- **Multilingual creatives, broad spend in low-price regions (confirmed)** : the countries where it charted cluster in markets with cheap CPI, such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Turkey, and Brazil, with scattered charting in Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, and Canada (chart_rank). Creatives include a Thai-language page and a Chinese version; the app lets users switch the narration language.

- **Store search / ASO (partial)** : package name `com.daily.horoscope.tarot.reading`, title 'Tarot & Daily Horoscope', description packed with daily tarot, yes or no tarot, love tarot and other keywords. That's standard ASO writing, but there's no evidence that organic search makes up a large share of traffic (daily installs of 14 two days after stopping spend).

- **TikTok / X / Reddit / media: nothing found** . TikHub searching 'Horae tarot' returns 0 posts; x-radar returns 30 posts over 0 days; web search turns up only APK sites, Similarweb, and Appfigures charts (Uruguay LIFESTYLE #24), which are all automated pages.

- **Where the money comes from** : the store listing says it contains ads and has no in-app purchases. AI tarot reader chats are most likely unlocked through rewarded videos or interstitials (unverified, I haven't installed the app). The playbook for this category in low-price regions is 'buy installs for a few cents CPI, then recoup through AdMob/AppLovin ad monetization', making money from scale and the small gap between LTV and CPI. Tarot is a ritual use case people open every day, which suits high ad frequency.

### 4. Competitors: the same category is already a red ocean

AI tarot / palm reading / astrology apps launched in the same period (launched after 2026-06), googleplay library as of 11-06:

| App | Developer | Launched | Installs | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Palmistry - AI Palm Reader | HoangSi (Vietnam, github.io website) | 07-08 | 13.7M | The same model at the top |
| Reva - Personal AI Astrologer | Askk App (India) | 09-08 | 7.73M | Indian Vedic astrology with real chat features |
| AI Palm Reading | Kienmaly Mobi | 10-12 (same day as Horae) | 2.89M, +1.57M in 7 days | Launched the same day, at 20x Horae's scale. The same developer also has Zeva Tarot (590k) and Astrology: Palm Reader & Tarot (590k) |
| Astro AI: Tarot & Horoscope | Ahc Foundation Inc | 09-02 | 2.64M | |
| Daily Tarot & Card Reading and others | SVVN-RU / ST Studio / AGS-Stiftung / FunPrank / Gladys Bishop / Fergus Games / MomenHaz998 / NEKS-CAPITAL / TRULY FLAVIUS… | 06~October | 30k~2.14M | The websites are all the same `tarotcardall87x.netlify.app` template: a matrix built by one team with dozens of developer accounts |
| Tarova: Astral Tarot & Zodiac | AI Translator(vnpublisher.com) | 06-05 | 730k | Korea personalization chart #1 |
| Astraea: Astrology & Chart | HOA BINH PRODUCTION | 09-21 | 320k | Vietnam |

Long-established players: Astrotalk (115M, Indian real-human astrology), AstroSage (82.3M), Kaave (40.9M), Faladdin (25.9M), Co–Star (8.62M, the US and Europe subscription leader), The Pattern (4.23M), Tarot99 (10.1M). At the big-company level, ChatGPT and Gemini can already answer tarot questions directly.

### 5. Differentiation

- Product: 78 Rider-Waite decks, 6 spreads, 12 zodiac horoscopes (daily/weekly/monthly), a "10 AI tarot readers" persona chat, drawing three cards inside the chat, read-aloud and multilingual support, and lucky numbers/colors/hours (site horae-tarot.netlify.app, store listing). Compared with dozens of similar apps from the same period, "AI persona tarot reader + card drawing in chat" is somewhat more complete, but Astro AI, Tarot99 and Kienmaly all have similar AI chat, so it doesn't form a real moat.

- **Differentiation isn't why it ran.** It ran (really, it was "bought") on the publisher's paid-acquisition pipeline and accounts, and even in this category it's mediocre: Kienmaly AI Palm Reading, listed the same day, grew 2.89M, while Horae only got 146k, and its ad-spend pulse is already fading.

### 6. Visibility and copycats

- Revenue isn't public. There's no press, X or TikTok discussion, and it only shows up on APK sites and automated chart pages, so **hardly anyone knows about it yet** .

- But "this category" is not cold at all. Vietnamese and Indian publishers 2026 have been flooding it since 6–October, with at least 30 similar apps (see table above), and Nuclear Man himself put out the palm-reading app Hastgy in 10-23. Horae is itself one of the followers.

### 7. Takeaways

- The pipeline is "one developer account = one category test": a single netlify landing page, a Google Sites privacy policy, keyword package names, and cheap-region Meta video ads. Within three weeks you can measure a category's CPI and retention, and if it doesn't work you stop spending (Horae's 10-27 pause follows exactly this test rhythm).

- Tarot and horoscopes are natural "open every day" use cases, well suited to ad monetization, and AI persona chat extends session length and adds more ad slots.

- If you want to go head-on, the category is extremely saturated. You either compete on spend scale (Kienmaly, HoangSi level), or copy the Western high-ARPU subscription playbook (Co-Star, The Pattern). The middle ground is hard to hold.

### 8. Uncertain

- The actual monetization (rewarded video to unlock AI chat? any hidden subscription?) is unverified; the store listing shows no in-app purchases.

- Meta active ads, spend and CPI are unknown (not tracked in the metaads library); whether it also runs Google UAC is unknown (likely, since UAC is common for chart placement in cheap regions).

- Install distribution by country is unknown (Google doesn't give install counts by region).

- Whether organic retention persists after the pause needs a few more days of daily installs to see if they drop to zero.
