Copied WoodSense's woodworking blueprint app; installed 1,115 times in 18 days: an imitator that never took off
What it is An Android woodworking blueprint app: hundreds of furniture, outdoor, and workbench projects, each with cut lists, shopping lists, tool lists, and step-by-step assembly diagrams, with in-app purchases at $4.99–41.99.
Why it took off It hasn't taken off: the modest volume came from a few small Facebook ad buys and low-cost tests in the Philippines, with installs rising in bursts, and 61 ratings that are all 4–5 stars with no written reviews. It exists because WoodSense proved woodworking blueprint subscriptions can make money.
DHow you could follow Don't. If you really want into this niche, bring the photo hook, multi-language support, and a non-colliding brand that it lacks; what's more worth learning is the funnel of the web brand Jack's WoodPlans with the "quiz onboarding + annual fee on web + delivery in the app" structure, which could be moved to other hobbies.

WoodPlans: DIY Woodworking is a woodworking blueprint app from a Turkish subscription-app team, listed on Google Play in Oct 19. Less than three weeks after launch it had 1,115 installs worldwide and had only charted in one Philippine category. It follows WoodSense: in the same niche, WoodSense reached 310k in two months. This piece covers who built it, where the modest volume came from, why it didn't take off, and what it means for anyone considering woodworking blueprints.
"Got a drill and a few tools?"
In Oct 30, the WoodPlans app's Facebook page posted a Reel that opened with "Got a drill and a few tools?", then said WoodPlans would pick projects based on the tools you already have. The Reel got 4,300 views; in Nov 3 the same copy was posted again, with 1,200 views but 120 reactions. Very few views with that many reactions suggests a paid post (inferred).
The install numbers on Google Play moved in exactly those days: 11-02 became 234,11-03, then 728,11-05, then 1,061,11-06, and then 1,115 (Google Play installs). Not a single day in between grew. That doesn't look like organic growth; it looks like a few small ad buys.
The Reel's "projects based on the tools you have" matches the app's store screenshots: above the blueprint list there's a toggle, "Use only my tools, 4 tools in your kit." So the page is most likely the app's own (inferred; the page doesn't name the developer).
What it is
Store page opening line: "WoodPlans gives you clear, step-by-step woodworking plans". Screenshot one reads "500+ PRACTICAL WOOD PLANS", next to an exploded 3D planter. Projects run from birdhouses and cutting boards to dining tables, pergolas, bunk beds for kids, and workbenches. Each plan has a cut list, a lumber and hardware shopping list, a tool list (with simpler substitutes), illustrated assembly steps, joinery notes, and sanding and finishing tips.
Free to download, no ads, in-app purchases from $4.99 to $41.99. The top tier costs the same as WoodSense's $39.99-a-year subscription.
The sample project in the screenshot is called "Beech Haven Front-Facing Organizer": 0.5–1 hours, $54–100, 3 steps. The render and the project name both look like they were batch-generated with AI (inference).
Who made it: a Turkish team that runs a men's health subscription app, testing a new category on a second account
The developer is listed as HAZNEDAR TEKNOLOJI in Istanbul, with a Squarespace template site as its website. But the support email on the store page belongs to moovbuddy.com, and it belongs to a senior product manager at MoovBuddy. The package names are com.digitallence.*, the same prefix as Kegel Men, MoovBuddy's main product. MoovBuddy's own LinkedIn says "Kegel Men, Young Face, Mindbuddy, Alpha and Quitbuddy are our apps"; the last three are listed under Haznedar.
In other words, Haznedar is the second account MoovBuddy uses for new launches. The team took investment from Turkish app-growth company Teknasyon 2020 years ago, and Kegel Men has 3.07M installs on Google Play. Their playbook is "quiz onboarding + subscription + paid acquisition".
Apps under the Haznedar account (Google Play pages, 11-06):
| App | What it does | Installs |
|---|---|---|
| Alpha | Men's Kegel training | 50k+ |
| QuitBuddy | Quit porn | 50k+ |
| MindBuddy | CBT journal | 50k+ |
| SearchAZ | People lookup | 1,000+ |
| Lustory | Short romance stories | 100+ |
| WoodPlans | Woodworking plans | 1,000+ |
The playbook is easy to read: they go wherever a subscription niche has already been validated, and test it with small Android spend first. WoodPlans is their first hobby app outside health, and it launched on Android only, with no iOS version.
1,115 installs and 61 five-star ratings
| Date | Total installs | Score | Philippines "Books & Reference" Top Free chart |
|---|---|---|---|
| 11-01 | 234 | 30 | 124 |
| 11-02 | 234 | 59 | 75 |
| 11-03 | 728 | 62 | 88 |
| 11-05 | 1,061 | 62 | 137 |
| 11-06 | 1,115 | 61 | 175 |
(Google Play installs and chart positions, 11-01 to 11-06)
Two things need discounting:
- Ratings. All 61 ratings are 4-star and 5-star, with no written reviews. It has 11-01 ratings at 234 installs; at 30 installs the count jumped from 11-02 to 30 with no change in installs, and the rating went from 59. Either the rating prompt pops up right at launch, or the team is inflating it. The 4.7 rating tells you nothing.
- Charts. It only appears on the Philippines book category chart. That category is easy to reach there: a few hundred installs a day can crack the top hundred, and Philippine installs are cheap, so the market is often used for conversion tests. This looks like product testing, not scaling.
It isn't on the Top Grossing chart, so from the outside there's no way to tell whether anyone is paying.
Who it's copying
The niche was opened up by WoodSense. WoodSense's iOS version launched in October 2025, with 22k ratings in the US store; its Android version launched in September, reached 11-06 with 313k installs, kept growing by 63k a week, and ranked #2 on Italy's Books & Reference Top Free chart (Google Play, 11-06). Behind it is a company that churns out "photo recognition + annual subscription" apps in bulk.
Side by side with WoodPlans:
| WoodSense | WoodPlans | |
|---|---|---|
| Plans, cut lists, step-by-step | Yes | Yes |
| Photo wood identification | Yes, the core ad pitch | None |
| Platform | iOS + Android | Android only |
| Language | Dozens, with subtitles localized per country | English |
| Countries charted | 26 | 1 |
| Pricing | $39.99/year subscription | IAP $4.99–41.99 |
WoodPlans is WoodSense with the wood-ID feature removed, and even its ad line "we recommend projects based on the tools you already own" says the same thing as WoodSense's ads. Other copycats in the same wave include Cutonce on Android (launched 10-13, 172 installs) and WoodCraft, WoodKit and Plankly on iOS, all small.
The name is already taken
There's another problem. On Facebook, the name "WoodPlans" already belongs to someone else: the US direct-sales ecommerce company Interactive Ecommerce runs "Jack's WoodPlans" ads, with the site woodplans.app. Its approach is the familiar one in woodworking circles: a long-form video sales page selling a $67 one-time purchase of "16,000 plans" (a bundle in the style of Ted's Woodworking, which has been sold on Facebook for over a decade and is widely seen in woodworking communities as a pirated compilation), plus a quiz funnel, a 7-day trial, then $44.99 a year, with payments taken through Stripe on the web and an iPhone app on the side.
The brand's icon, privacy policy and contact email don't match the Play listing for WoodPlans, so it's probably two companies that happen to share a name (inference). One side effect: the Facebook company has no Android app, so Android users who see its ads and search Play for "WoodPlans" will only find Haznedar's app. WoodPlans may pick up some stray search traffic from other people's ads, but I haven't verified that. On the flip side, if it tries to build a brand on Facebook, it will always be mixed up with a company that is running heavy ad spend.
Beyond that, there's no discussion of it on TikTok, X or Reddit, and no media coverage (11-06 search). The only trace I could find is an APK mirror site listing.
Why it didn't take off
- Missing hook. WoodSense's ads sell "point your camera and know what wood it is and what it's worth", which can be explained in one line over one picture. WoodPlans is only plans, and plans are hard to film into an ad that stops a thumb.
- Android only, English only. WoodSense's strongest markets are Italy, France and Mexico, not the US. WoodPlans has no localizations at all.
- Name clash. See the section above.
- Ad spend at test scale. A few hundred installs a day with gaps in between, which looks like they're checking the data before deciding whether to spend more. They haven't yet.
This doesn't mean the team is doing something wrong. Testing a new category on a second account with small spend, and killing it if the numbers are bad, is standard practice for subscription app teams. It just doesn't prove anything to outsiders who might want to follow.
If it were you
D. Skip this app: it is itself a copycat that never took off. The things worth looking at are two others: the niche WoodSense proved, and the web-checkout funnel from Jack's WoodPlans.
Who it's for: only people who want to use it as a cautionary tale. You're thinking about a "plans library + subscription" for some handicraft, and want to see what happens if you only copy the content.
Who it's not for: anyone planning an English-only Android woodworking plans app. WoodSense already holds that space, and content copycats like WoodPlans and Cutonce are stuck around a thousand installs.
How to do it: if you still want to enter this niche, you need at least the three things it lacks: a hook you can turn into ad creative (photo-based wood ID, or measuring a wall to calculate materials); a name nobody else is using; and two or three non-English languages from day one. The more interesting thing to study is Jack's WoodPlans: quiz-led onboarding, annual billing through Stripe on the web, and an app that only handles delivery, which avoids the 15–30% store cut. This model works for hobbies beyond woodworking too.
How to acquire users: like WoodSense, run Meta feed ads and test two creative types, "hook" and "finished product"; start in cheap non-English markets. Don't count on organic social traffic; nobody in this niche has grown that way.
Timing: no rush. WoodPlans itself won't leave you a window.
Signs you've misread it: (1) WoodPlans had 50k installs before December, launched on iOS, or charted in the US or Italy. That would mean the team spent money and content alone can drive growth, so the "you need a hook" conclusion would be wrong. (2) It gets real written reviews or reaches Top Grossing. That would mean people are paying. (3) It renames itself or adds photo recognition. That would mean the team itself thinks the current version isn't working.

WoodPlans: DIY Woodworking(Google Play,com.digitallence.woodplans)
In short: the Turkish MoovBuddy team (developer of Kegel Men) is using a side account, HAZNEDAR TEKNOLOJI, to sell a woodworking-plans subscription app. It launched 2026-10-19, with selling points of step-by-step plans, cut lists and tool lists, and in-app purchases of $4.99–$41.99.
Verdict: it hasn't taken off yet. After 18 days live it has 1,115 global installs and only reached #75–#175 on the Philippines books chart. This is a cheap copycat test, following the woodworking-plans-plus-subscription niche that WoodSense (Glority stack, 310k Android installs) has validated. The sharp rise seen at crawl time (7 days, +881) is tiny in absolute terms, and may come from small ad spend or name spillover from the same-named brand (see section 4).
There's also an important finding: the name "WoodPlans" on Facebook belongs to a different company. US direct-response e-commerce firm Interactive Ecommerce LLC runs "Jack's WoodPlans": a web page sells $67 for "16,000 woodworking plans", plus a quiz funnel upselling a $44.99/year subscription, advertised on Facebook, and it also has an iPhone app. The Play app doesn't match it in icon, privacy policy or contact email, so these are most likely two unrelated companies sharing a name. Interactive Ecommerce has no Android app, so Android users searching "WoodPlans" in the store can only find this one, which may be picking up search traffic from the other side's ads. Not verified.

1. Data (googleplay library, as of 2026-11-06)
| Date | Total installs | Daily change | Score | Star distribution [1–5★] | Philippines Books & Ref free chart |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10-30 (AppstoreSpy estimate) | 234 | — | — | — | — |

| 11-06 | 1,115 | +54 | 61 | [0,0,0,20,40] | 175 |
- The curve comes in bursts: 11-03 and 11-05 each had a jump, and the other days were nearly flat; 11-06 added only 54. This looks more like a few short small-budget buys or external traffic than organic growth.
- Several rating anomalies:
- All 61 ratings are 4 or 5 stars, with 0 written reviews (
written_reviews = 0). - At 11-01 the app had only 234 installs but already 30 ratings, about 13%; at 11-02 installs didn't change while ratings went from 30 to 59.
- This suggests either the app shows the system rating prompt very early (stars only, no text), or the team or test accounts are rating it themselves. Either way, the 4.7-star score has no reference value.
- All 61 ratings are 4 or 5 stars, with 0 written reviews (
- Only one category chart, in the Philippines. The Philippines books category has a low bar and is often used for cheap test ads.
- Listed 2026-10-19, updated 1.0,10-29 time(s).
- In-app purchases $4.99–$41.99 each; the top tier is the same price point as WoodSense's $39.99 yearly subscription. Free to download, no ads.
- Data safety declaration: collects photos and videos, app activity, etc.; shares personal info and device IDs with third parties, likely attribution / ad SDKs.
2. Who's behind it: the second release account of the MoovBuddy team
- Play developer HAZNEDAR TEKNOLOJI LIMITED SIRKETI, website haznedartech.com, a Squarespace template site, address in Güngören, Istanbul.
- Support email is [email protected]. Görkem Kethüda is a senior product manager at MoovBuddy (LinkedIn).
- All app package names use the prefix
com.digitallence.*. Under the same prefix, MoovBuddy itself iscom.digitallence.vexrobapp, and Kegel Men iscom.digitallence.kegelmanapp(developer name DGT YAZILIM). - MoovBuddy's LinkedIn says "Kegel Men, Young Face, Mindbuddy, Alpha, Quitbuddy are all our apps" (link). The last three are listed under the Haznedar account. So Haznedar is the second account MoovBuddy / DGT Yazılım uses to launch new products.
- MoovBuddy raised funding from Turkish app growth company Teknasyon and twozero Ventures 2020 years ago (egirisim).
- Flagship product Kegel Men: 3,069,522 installs globally on Google Play, 118,344 ratings. This shows the team does "quiz onboarding + subscription + paid acquisition".
- Scale of each app under the Haznedar account (Play page tiers, 2026-11-06):
| App | Installs | Reviews |
|---|---|---|
| Alpha: Kegel (men) | 50k+ | 8.7K |
| QuitBuddy (quit porn) | 50k+ | 6.8K |
| MindBuddy (CBT journal) | 50k+ | 2.7K |
| SearchAZ (people search) | 1K+ | — |
| Lustory (short romance fiction) | 100+ | — |
| WoodPlans | 1K+ | — |
The same-named account on iOS (id1786385573) has QuitBuddy, Alpha, MindBuddy and Lustory, but no WoodPlans (checked both the appstore library and the App Store developer page).
- Playbook in short: one app per category, go wherever a subscription niche has already been validated, and test with small Android ad buys first. WoodPlans is their first hobby app unrelated to health.
3. Competitors
| Product | Platform | Launched | Scale | Differences from WoodPlans (Play) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WoodSense: Wood Plans & Guides (Next Vision / Glority family) | Android | 2026-09-08 | 313k installs, +7k in 63 days; #2 free on Italy's Books & Ref chart (googleplay library 11-06) | The niche was opened by it. It adds a photo-based wood-ID hook, charted in 26 countries, multilingual, heavy Meta spend; WoodPlans has only plans, no identification |
| WoodSense iOS | iOS | 2025-10-28 | 21,554 rating in the US store, #1 top grossing in Italy's Reference (appstore library) | Same as above |
| Jack's WoodPlans(woodplans.app,Interactive Ecommerce LLC / Viral Apps LLC) | Web + iOS | 2026-10 (earliest FB page post 10-18) | Unknown; the parent company claims eight-figure annual revenue in USD | Same name, different company. A long-form sales-letter VSL sells a $67 one-time purchase of "16,000 woodworking plans" (the Ted's Woodworking bundle), plus a quiz funnel: a 7-day trial, then $44.99/year (or $1.99 for the first month), paid via Stripe. No Android app. |
| Ted's Woodworking and its affiliate accounts | Web (ClickBank) | Around 2010 | Heavy FB ads; the woodworking community widely considers it a pirated plans collection (woodgears.ca, Woodshop News 2026-10) | Sells PDF bundles on the web, no app |
| Cutonce: DIY Woodworking Plans(JLAI Apps) | Android | 2026-10-13 | 172 installs (googleplay library) | Same wave of copycats, smaller |
| WoodCraft / WoodKit / Plankly, etc. | iOS | 2026 years | All small | All copying WoodSense's titles and structure |
| Ana White, Kreg, Woodsmith, Instructables | Web | Years | Large (SEO) | Free or single plan sales, no subscription app |
| SketchUp, MakeByMe, SketchList 3D, Cutlist Optimizer | Web / App | Years | Medium | Design and cut-list tools where you draw it yourself; WoodPlans gives ready-made plans |
| ChatGPT / Gemini | Big-company features | 2024– | huge | Can generate a plan, but not a proofed, complete set of drawings |
Verdict: WoodPlans (Play) has no functional differentiation. It is a simplified WoodSense with the wood-ID feature removed, and on Play it is still far smaller than WoodSense.
4. Where users come from
- Small Meta buys: possible, not confirmed.
- Two new Facebook pages, both with IDs starting 615956…, likely created in the same October 2026.
- "Woodplans" (61595666631535): the landing page for the 10-18 post is woodplans.app/quiz-v2, which belongs to Interactive Ecommerce, not Haznedar. Its video title "Become a woodworking expert" is word-for-word the same as WoodSense's FB video title.
- "WoodPlans" (61595630616978, page type App page): 10-30 and 11-03 each posted a Reel with the copy "Got a drill and a few tools? … WoodPlans picks projects that match the tools you already own". Views were 4.3K and 1.2K, reactions 44 and 120. Reactions are high relative to views, which looks like a boosted post.
- I couldn't open this page's landing page to check, so ownership is unclear. Its copy is nearly identical to WoodSense's ad copy ("projects you can build based on the tools you already own … cut list").
- The two Play jumps (11-03 +494,11-05 +333) line up in time with the two Reels on 10-30 and 11-03.
- Our metaads library doesn't track these two homepages, so we can't see how many ads they're running.
- Brand-name search spillover: speculation.
- Interactive Ecommerce runs direct-response ads on FB under "WoodPlans", and the iPhone App is published by Viral Apps LLC; the privacy policy only mentions the iPhone App.
- So Android users who see the ad and search "WoodPlans" on Play only find Haznedar's app.
- Whether this holds depends on the advertiser's spend and the share of Android users, which we haven't verified.
- Philippines test campaign: speculation. It only shows up on the Philippines charts; CPI is low there, so it's often used to test conversion.
- Incentivized ratings / self-ratings: likely. All ratings are 4–5 stars with no text reviews; the rating doubled on the day installs stalled.
- TikTok / X / Reddit / press: none.
- Searching "woodplans app" on TikHub returns nothing about it.
- x-radar search for "woodplans" returns 0 posts in the last 30 days.
- Reddit and the press don't mention it.
- The only thing you can find online is listings on the APKTurbo mirror site (10-23).
5. Why it (did not) break out
- Why it exists: WoodSense proved on iOS, and after going to Android 2026-09 it reached 310k installs in two months, showing that "woodworking plans + annual subscription + Meta ads" makes money, and the content bar is low, so plans can be generated or curated in bulk. The MoovBuddy team had a ready subscription-app template and ad experience, and copied it within a month.
- Why it hasn't taken off:
- Android only, English only, charted in just one country.
- No wood-identification hook, the kind that works well for ad creatives.
- The name collides on FB with a US direct-response company that is spending heavily, so it can't build its own brand.
- Ad spend looks like test-level: a few hundred installs a day, with gaps.
- Money: it's not on Play's Top Grossing, so monetization is unproven. Its in-app pricing copies WoodSense's price points.
6. Differentiation
- Versus WoodSense: no differentiation, and it lacks wood identification.
- Versus web plan libraries: interactive mobile steps, a cut list you can tick off, and metric/imperial toggles, though WoodSense has these too.
- Versus Jack's WoodPlans: it's an app subscription, while the other is a web one-time purchase plus subscription double funnel.
Differentiation isn't where its current volume comes from. The volume more likely comes from small-budget ads, plus exposure from the "WoodPlans" name on FB.
7. How many people know about it
Few people know about it yet. No public revenue, no press coverage, 0 posts on X. What is being discussed is the category itself: people in FB woodworking groups have asked about WoodSense, and Woodshop News has written several times about FB woodworking-plan ads like Ted's Woodworking.
8. What to borrow
- Category view: WoodSense proves the category. There's an older, bigger existing demand to study: direct-response sales of "$67 for 16,000 plans" like Ted's Woodworking have run on FB for over a decade. Interactive Ecommerce is turning it into "quiz + web Stripe subscription + app delivery." Web payments avoid the store's 30% cut, and that's more worth learning from than this small Play app.
- How to follow the trend properly: bring a hook that works as an ad creative (identify wood, estimate materials from a photo), go multilingual, and pick a name that doesn't collide with anyone. Copying only the content layer rarely gets traction.
- Team playbook: subscription-app teams use a second developer account to test new categories quickly, at low failure cost. MoovBuddy and Haznedar are examples.
9. Uncertain
- Whether FB page 61595630616978 "WoodPlans" belongs to Haznedar or to Interactive Ecommerce, and whether the two Play rating jumps came from its ads.
- Whether Haznedar's app and Interactive Ecommerce have any partnership (for example, outsourcing the Android version). The evidence so far is that icons, privacy policy, and contact emails are all different, so we judge it a name collision, but there's no direct proof.
- What Jack's WoodPlans' iPhone app is called and how big it is: the iTunes API returned 403, and the appstore library doesn't index it either.
- Whether the ratings came from a system prompt or were self-generated.
- Paid conversion and retention: no review sample, and it hasn't made the Top Grossing chart.
