38k installs in a day, then zero within two days: a short-drama app under a Vietnamese labor company
What it is A free, ad-funded vertical short-drama player, listed under a labor company by a Vietnamese team, mainly targeting Indonesia and Thailand.
Why it spiked Demand for free short dramas on Android in Southeast Asia is strong. It seems to have bought installs in waves to push into the entertainment category charts in Indonesia and Thailand (inferred), with its name and package borrowing search terms from DramaBox and ReelShort. Ads pay it back, and then it opens more packages and more company shells to spread out.
DHow you could approach it Don't build another free short-drama shell. If you want into this demand, first secure legal content, then build a version with fewer and skippable ads and local-language dubbing, and use Google App Ads targeting Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines.
- Data (updated daily) · first launch 2026-09-10 · 11-07 installs 101,671
Android · Total installs worldwide Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.
A free short-drama app called "Short Drama - Stream Drama" on Google Play added 2k installs on Nov 38 alone, and on Nov 4 it added none. It sits under a Vietnamese labor dispatch company that sends workers to Japan. It has 100k installs, zero ratings, and hasn't been updated in two months, and it uses the same template as several other short-drama shells from the same group. This piece covers how it got started, where the money comes from, and why we don't recommend copying it.
Nov 2:38,429
Cumulative global installs on Google Play: on Oct 31 it was 32,198, on Nov 1 44,269, and on Nov 2 82,698, so it added 38,429 in one day. The next day it added 10,058, and on the third day (11-04) it added none, then 11-05 added another 8,915,11-06, then 0.
Looking further back shows the same pattern (historical estimates from third-party AppstoreSpy): in late September about 800 a day; from Oct 2 to 11 it nearly stalled at dozens a day; on Oct 12 it picked up again, reaching nearly 5,000 on Oct 21; then in October 28 and 29 it dropped back to single digits a day.
Organic growth speeds up and slows down gradually; it doesn't fall from tens of thousands to zero overnight. Running in bursts and going to zero when it stops looks most like batched ad-buy switching (inferred: no creatives found in Meta's or TikTok's public ad libraries, and the ad channels are unverified).
Its chart positions also show the volume is small: it only charted in the entertainment category's free chart. Its best was #67 in Indonesia (11-05), it ranked between #115 and #162 in Thailand, and it charted for two days each in France at the end of October and Malaysia at the start of November, all beyond #170. It never charted overall or in Top Grossing.
What it is
A vertical short-drama player. The store listing reads like every other short-drama app: "revenge, family, CEO, billionaires..." "thousands of episodes," "charts, editor picks, binge reminders." It's free, with no in-app purchases, and the store lists it as containing ads.
Taken together, these numbers don't look like a carefully made product:
- The version number has been 11 since Sep 1.0.2.20260911, with no update in two months (Google Play, 11-06);
- 100k installs, rating count is empty, and there isn't a single review;
- The developer website inter-human-limited.github.io shows 404, and the contact email is a personal Gmail;
- The privacy policy page title still reads "Privacy Policy of Short Drama Box: Stream Drama." Its original name was "Short Drama Box," clearly modeled on DramaBox, the category leader.
The source of its content is unverified. It's free, not updated, and several shells share one template, so it's most likely an aggregated or repurposed library (inferred), and that is legally shaky.
Who's behind it: a labor company with two same-named accounts
The developer is listed as "U INTERNATIONAL HUMAN COMPANY LIMITED" with two spaces in the name. In Vietnamese business registration records, this is a staffing company in Tan Binh district of Ho Chi Minh City, registered 2015 years ago and doing labor dispatch to Japan. Its blogspot site was only created in August 2026 and contains a single company introduction post. Using a real, existing company that has nothing to do with the app to open an organization developer account on Play is a common practice in this space.
The same name has two accounts on Play, one with a single space and one with two spaces:
| Account | Apps under it | Short-drama shell installs (11-06) |
|---|---|---|
| Double space | Short Drama - Stream Drama, blood sugar and blood pressure tracker, NovelPath novel reader, Vexio | 102k, zero ratings |
| Single space | EpicReel: Drama & Movies (8-29 listed), Disco Light flashlight | 221k, 55 ratings, average 2.0 |
There's also one that switched to a different company shell: Dramavo: Mini Drama Series, whose developer is another staffing company called YAMATO INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT. It was also listed in Aug 29, is on version 1.0.2, is also ads-only with no in-app purchases, also has zero ratings, and has 260k installs (Google Play, 11-06).
Together the three total about 580k installs. None is big on its own; the business is about the total across a group of packages.
Where users come from
- Batched paid acquisition to push into low-barrier category charts (inferred). In the free entertainment charts in Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia, a few tens of thousands of installs can get you into the top 100, and some organic traffic follows once you're charted.
- Store search, riding the leaders' names. The package name is com.dramatv.movie.watch.reels.short.drama, stuffed with every searchable term. The title "Stream Drama" copies ReelShort's "Stream Drama & TV" and DramaBox's "Stream Drama Shorts"; the original name was simply Short Drama Box. Some people searching for the leading brands click through.
- The short-drama boom in Southeast Asia. Indonesian outlet industry.co.id reported in August that short-drama apps dominated the Indonesian Play store; local demand for free short-drama apps with "no coins" is common.
No videos turn up when searching TikTok by name, and nobody on X, Reddit, or in the press has mentioned it.
Where the money comes from: viewers watching ads
No in-app purchases; the only revenue is ads. The math likely works like this: buy installs very cheaply in Indonesia and Thailand, show an interstitial or rewarded video every time a viewer finishes an episode, and as long as ad revenue beats acquisition cost, open another package and another company shell to keep spreading. The third-party estimate from AppGoblin puts it at 14k monthly active users and under $10k in monthly revenue; treat that as an order of magnitude only.
It has no reviews of its own, but reviews of Halo Reels in Thailand, a much bigger operation of the same kind (about 26M installs across three packages), show what users go through in these apps:
"Every episode makes you watch an ad to unlock, and you can't skip episodes. So annoying." (Halo Reels, Thailand, 10-13,1 stars)
"Each episode is one minute with three ads inside, so it's really three minutes of ads." (Halo Reels Max, Philippines, 11-05,1 stars)
"Too many ads, deleted it. Melolo is the best, the ads can be skipped." (Halo Reels, Thailand, 10-13,1 stars)
The last review points to the real competitor for this kind of shell: not each other, but ByteDance's Melolo. It ranks #1 in Indonesia's free entertainment chart and has 10.1B installs in top grossing. It's also free, but it has a licensed content library and skippable ads.
Who it's competing with
| Who | Install (Google Play, 11-06) | How it differs |
|---|---|---|
| ReelShort / DramaBox | 307M each | Original or licensed shows, monetized through coins and subscriptions; ReelShort +$5.5M a week |
| Melolo (ByteDance) | 147M | The leader in free shows, #1 in Indonesia's free entertainment chart |
| FreeReels / DramaWave | 246M / 152M | Same free model, but backed by big companies and licensed libraries |
| PineDrama(TikTok) | 84M | Big tech is jumping in directly |
| Halo Reels trio | About 26M | Same mass-shell-app playbook, two orders of magnitude bigger |
| AuraReel (Vietnamese pharma shell) | 770k | Similar shells launched around the same time |
| Short Drama - Stream Drama | 100k |
How crowded the shelf is: 2026 since June, the apps on Play with drama or reel in the name, in the entertainment category, number 230. 147 of them passed 100k installs, 43 passed 1M, and only 79 have in-app purchases. This one sits in the lower half of that pile at 100k. VnExpress wrote about a wave of "earn money watching short dramas" apps in Oct 20 (CoinDrama 10M+, CashDrama 5M+), which pull users through Facebook ads and earn from ad views. The model is no longer a secret locally.
If it were you
One-line verdict: D. Nobody knows this app, but its approach is already packed. There are 230 similar apps, and the top free short-drama apps belong to ByteDance and TikTok. It probably makes under $10K a month on its own, and it sits on shaky ground: content licensing and Play takedown risk. Study the playbook, but don't copy it.
Who it suits: teams already running a stack of shell apps, holding several developer accounts and AdMob accounts, and able to accept "if one gets banned, swap in the next." For them, this is just another category to spread across.
Who it doesn't suit: indie developers building a long-term product; people without content sources who won't touch the copyright gray zone; anyone who hasn't run Google app ads and can't work out install cost versus per-user ad revenue.
If you do build it: don't make the 231th free short-drama shell. The reviews point to two gaps. One: "every episode forces ads and you can't skip them." If you have legal content, fewer and skippable ads can win users from the existing shells. Two: "want more Thai dubbing." Free short dramas with local-language dubbing or subtitles are not well covered by the leaders (inference). But both require solving content sourcing first, which is exactly what indie developers find hardest to get.
How to acquire users: like this app, run Google app ads in Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines. Write store keywords around short drama / drama reels and the big brand names, and first push for top 100 in the entertainment category chart.
Timing: the window for this type of shell is measured in weeks. Copycats ship every week, so paid acquisition costs will only keep rising. The Southeast Asia short-drama boom is still going, but ByteDance and TikTok have already entered.
What would show I'm wrong: if in a month or two these three shells and the Halo Reels group are still not taken down, and installs keep climbing in waves, Play is more tolerant of this kind of app than I assumed, and ad economics work better than I expect. The window for scaling is bigger than I judged. Conversely, if it stalls around 100k and drops out of the chart rankings to around 200, it was just a paid burst that ends when spending stops.

- Inference Paid acquisition to push the Southeast Asia Entertainment free chart: install pattern shows switch-like pulses (11-02 +38,429, then 11-04 and 11-06 both at 0), 100k installs with zero ratings; charted only on the Indonesia / Thailand / Malaysia category charts (googleplay library)
- Confirmed Store search + riding a leading brand name: package name stuffed with dramatv.movie.watch.reels.short.drama; title imitates ReelShort / DramaBox with "Stream Drama"; privacy page shows the original name was "Short Drama Box: Stream Drama"
- Confirmed Multi-developer account network: the same Vietnamese HR company runs two developer accounts with the same name (differing by one space), plus the Dramavo app under the YAMATO HR company shell. All three short-drama shells use the same template (1.0.2 version, netlify / github.io websites, no IAP).

Why Short Drama - Stream Drama (com.dramatv.movie.watch.reels.short.drama) got traction
Channel: Google Play; developer U INTERNATIONAL HUMAN COMPANY LIMITED (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam); store launch 2026-09-10; research date 2026-11-06.
Bottom line
It isn't a short-drama app that gained traction on product merit. It's one of many batch-produced "shell app factory" releases from Vietnam, riding the Southeast Asia short-drama boom: a pure ad-monetized short-drama player shell with no IAP, no original content, and no ratings. Its install curve jumps in pulses (38k in a single day, then 0), most consistent with paid acquisition aimed at Indonesia / Thailand entertainment free charts, with AdMob-style ads paying it back. It gets installs from category heat plus distribution tactics (multiple accounts, multiple packages, riding search terms like "Short Drama / DramaBox"), not from the product itself.
1. Data (our googleplay library + historical data from AppstoreSpy)
- Global cumulative installs: 2026-10-29 as of 32,198,11-05 reached 101,671; 7-day new installs 69,473 (library app_profile, 2026-11-06).
- The curve moves in pulses (app_day_ext, AppstoreSpy estimates plus our observations):
- From 9-22 to 9-28 about 800 per day, cumulative reaching 5.7 thousand; from 10-02 to 10-11 almost flat (2–72 per day);
- 10-12 picked up again (10-14 that day, 3,169,10-21 the next day, 4,962), then fell back to 10-28/29–6 per day;
- From 10-30 to 11-01 about 4 thousand per day, 11-02 single-day +38,429, 11-03 +10,058,11-04 then 0,11-05 +8,915,11-06 then 0.
- On-off, dropping to zero whenever it stops. That's how batched paid campaigns look, not organic word of mouth (organic growth doesn't drop to 0 overnight).
- Charts (chart_rank): only on the Entertainment category free chart. Indonesia 121→67 (best at 11-05), Thailand 115–162,10-29/30, France 184–196,11-04/05, Malaysia 169–176. Never on any overall chart or top grossing chart.
- Monetization (app_snap): offers_iap=false, ad_supported=true. Version has been 1.0.2.20260911 since 2026-09-11, no update in two months. 100k installs, and the rating count is still empty, with not a single review in the database. AppGoblin's revenue mix is "IAP 0% · Ad 100%", estimated monthly revenue <$10k (https://appgoblin.info/apps/com.dramatv.movie.watch.reels.short.drama).
2. Who's behind it: a Vietnamese shell-app network
- The developer name "U INTERNATIONAL HUMAN COMPANY LIMITED" (with two spaces in the middle) belongs to a Vietnamese labor dispatch company placing workers in Japan (tax ID registered 0313505471,2015, Tan Binh, Ho Chi Minh City; fiingate.vn/BusinessDirectory/CompanyDetail/499768). Its blogspot site was created 2026-08 and contains only one company introduction page (https://uinternationalhumancompanylimited.blogspot.com/), a typical case of "using a real registered company to open Play organization accounts."
- The same name has two developer accounts (one with a single space, one with two):
- Double-space account: this app, Blood Sugar & Blood Pressure, Vexio, NovelPath: Stories & Novels;
- Single-space account: EpicReel: Drama & Movies (2026-08-29 listed, 220k installs, 55 ratings, average 2.0), Disco Light: Party Flash (flashlight app).
- Same template under a different HR company shell: Dramavo: Mini Drama Series, developer YAMATO INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT. Also listed 2026-08-29, version 1.0.2, website on a netlify subdomain, no IAP and ads only, 260k installs, also no ratings (library app / app_snap).
- The privacy policy page for this App is titled "Privacy Policy of Short Drama Box: Stream Drama" (https://sites.google.com/view/privacypolicyofshortdramaboxst/home), which shows it was originally named "Short Drama Box" to ride on DramaBox. The current developer site is inter-human-limited.github.io, which is 404, and the contact email is a personal gmail.
- Together these three short-drama shells total about 580k installs.
3. Competitors (same thing: watching vertical short dramas on your phone)
- Major short-drama platforms (owned or licensed libraries, coin / subscription IAP): ReelShort (307M installs, 2022-08 listed), DramaBox (307M, 2023-04), FreeReels / DramaWave (Skywork, 246M / 152M, 2024), Melolo (147M, 2024-11, #1 on Indonesia Entertainment free chart, #10 top grossing), NetShort (162M), ShortMax (131M), GoodShort (9.9 tens of millions), TikTok's PineDrama (84M, 2025-12). These leaders add 500k–5.5M installs per week (googleplay library, 2026-11-06).
- Same shell / mass-app playbook (listed 2026 or later, developer names unrelated to drama, mostly no IAP): Halo Reels trio (Nutri Plaza, 12.3M + 8.2M + 5.7M), Drama World / Drama World Pro (Skylark Scan), MixReels (14M), AuraReel (CENTRAL PHARMACEUTICAL CPC1 JSC, Vietnamese pharma shell, 770k, 2026-08-31), Short Drama: Movie & Series (Style Of Me - VTN Global), Short TV (Tuan Genilai), ShortFly Pro / Max, ShortNext / DramaGo (Infinity Store).
- How crowded it is: 2026-06 and later, the entertainment apps with drama/reel in the name number 230 in the library. Of those, 147 passed 100k installs, 43 passed 1M, and only 79 have IAP (googleplay library). This app's 100k places it in the lower half of that pack.
- Big-platform features: TikTok (PineDrama), YouTube, Kwai, and iQIYI all have short-drama entry points.
4. Where users come from
- Paid acquisition to push category charts (inference, no direct evidence): the curve jumps on and off, 100k installs with zero ratings, and it only reaches the entertainment free chart in Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia, where the chart entry bar is low. Meta / TikTok ad libraries don't show it (our ad library only tracks a fixed list of products, so not finding it there doesn't mean it isn't running ads).
- Store search + brand piggybacking: package names are stuffed with dramatv / movie / watch / reels / short / drama, and titles like "Short Drama - Stream Drama" copy ReelShort's "Stream Drama & TV" and DramaBox's "Stream Drama Shorts". The original name was "Short Drama Box". The point is to catch traffic from searches for the top brands.
- Category demand: Indonesian media 2026-08 reported short-drama apps dominating the Indonesian Play Store (https://www.industry.co.id/read/154786/...), and "free, no coins" short-drama apps are a hot local search need (pinkim.id 2026-09 ranking article).
- The "watch dramas to earn money" model, no evidence for this one: VnExpress 2026-10-20 reported a wave of "earn money watching short dramas" apps in Vietnam (CoinDrama 10M+, CashDrama 5M+, MixReels). They pull users with Facebook ads, and the money users actually earn comes from watching ads (https://e.vnexpress.net/news/tech/tech-news/short-drama-apps-lure-millions-with-promises-of-easy-cash-deliver-ads-and-malware-instead-5131544.html). This app's store listing doesn't mention rewards, so whether it uses this model is unverified.
- TikTok search by name returns no related videos (TikHub). X, Reddit and the media haven't mentioned it.
5. How the money comes back
There are no in-app purchases, only ads (Play lists it as ad_supported, AppGoblin writes Ad 100%). The likely math: buy installs cheaply in Indonesia / Thailand, show interstitial and rewarded video ads while people watch, and as long as ad revenue beats acquisition cost, keep spinning up more packages and developer shells. Where the catalog comes from is unverified. It's free, rarely updated, and a dozen-plus shells share one template, so it's most likely an aggregated or scraped library with high copyright risk and a real chance of takedown.
VI. Differentiation
Basically nothing. Compared with ReelShort and DramaBox, its only difference is free, no coin gating, and the cost is that it runs entirely on ads with no original content. Among the same batch of clone packages, it's just one copy. It gets installs because of its distribution tactics (multi-account matrix, piggybacking on search terms, picking low-barrier markets), not because of differentiation.
7. How visible is it
No one has written about it and its revenue isn't public. But the playbook has been covered thoroughly: Vietnamese and Thai media have written about "earn money watching short dramas" apps, and Play already has hundreds of similar clone packages. So this particular app is unknown, but its approach is already crowded.
8. What others can learn from it
- Short-drama demand on Android in Southeast Asia is huge. The top players rely on in-app purchases, while the long tail can still capture volume with a "free + ads" version.
- It spreads the risk of being banned across multiple developer entities and package names, and writes titles, package names and privacy pages around top-brand keywords to capture store search traffic.
- It picks markets like Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia where the category charts are easy to climb. A modest volume is enough to break into the top 100 of Entertainment, which then brings a bit of organic traffic.
9. What I'm still unsure about
- Acquisition channels and unit costs (no ad creatives found);
- Whether the catalog is legal, and whether it contains "earn money watching dramas" mechanics or prompts to download other apps;
- Why 100k installs have zero ratings: maybe ratings are disabled or it hasn't hit the minimum threshold, or the installs are low quality and users don't stay;
- Retention and actual ad revenue (AppGoblin estimates MAU 14k and monthly revenue <$10k, which are only order-of-magnitude references).
