> Dating is one of the highest-willingness-to-pay needs. New packages got hundreds of installs a day from Google Play new-release exposure and dating search terms. AfterDark – Meet & Connect · DEVVVS 0088

# 14k installs, #78 on the US Social Top Grossing chart: AfterDark is not a dating app, it's a new account in a dating shell-app pipeline

**What it is** A swipe-based dating app available only in the US store. You browse profiles, match, and chat, but to reply to messages or see who likes you, you have to buy coins. User reviews say the profiles are all fake.

**Why it's taking off** Dating is one of the highest-willingness-to-pay needs, and new apps get Play's new-release exposure plus dating search traffic, which can bring in hundreds of installs a day. Coins sold per item mean each install can bring $0.6–$3, and a few thousand paying users is enough to reach the Top Grossing chart. The same template gets rotated across accounts, and when ratings tank, the next one goes up.

**D** **How you could ride it** Not recommended. If you borrow anything, borrow the structure: pick a vertical with high willingness to pay that delivers something real (live consultations, practice coaching, and so on), charge per session up front, run the same template across several audiences as separate apps, and ride the first few weeks of exposure that new apps get.

Grade D: the money-making part depends on fake profiles and per-message charges, which cross Google Play's policy lines, and accounts can be banned together at any time. The legitimate part, real-person dating, needs a user network that a new app can't provide. More than twenty copies of the same app are already on the charts, so the space is crowded. Understanding the playbook is enough. Few people know about it yet

AfterDark launched on Google Play in 2026 Oct 5, US-only. In its first month it logged 14k installs and has been sitting at #75–82 on the US Social Top Grossing chart ever since. Following its privacy policy link, package name and developer account leads to at least 12 dating apps built on the same template. It didn't break out because of the product. It broke out through a playbook: several accounts rotating new packages, plus an aggressive coin paywall. Below I cover how it makes money, why a few thousand installs can reach the grossing chart, and why I wouldn't recommend copying it.

### Three one-star reviews

Oct 17, day 12 after launch, a user named Norman King left a one-star review on Play: "This thing decided I live in another city, so the people 'nearby' are hours away. You can't change the location." The next day another wrote: "Can't even sign up, neither of the two options given works." On Oct 19, Micheal Jones wrote:

> "Complete garbage! Every profile is fake, did not find a single real person." (EVERY profile is fake, did not find a single real person.)

Those three reviews are still the top ones on the store page. This is the app that ranked #6 on the US Google Play Social Top Grossing chart in Nov 78.

### What it is

A standard swipe-based dating app: browse profiles, swipe right to like, chat once you match, and send text, photos, and video. It also has "who liked you" and "who viewed you recently" features. Not a single line of the store description is unique to this app. Version 1.0.1, and it hasn't been updated since launch.

Revenue comes from in-app purchases, and the store page says "$3.99 – $69.99 per item". That's per-item pricing, not a monthly subscription, which looks like coin or message packs. A review on DateSpark, another dating app from the same developer account, is blunter: "bots scammers pay per message". Putting these together, the model is basically: the profiles are fake or run by customer-service accounts, and users have to buy coins to reply to messages or see who likes them (inferred; I didn't sign up to verify whether the other side is human agents or AI, and it can't be seen from outside).

### Why 14k installs can get it onto the grossing chart

Installs (Google Play, same below): 10-29 on 10,018,11-06, 14,463, up 4,445 over the week. From the first week after launch it stabilized at roughly 300 installs a day. AppBrain lists it at #3 in the US Top New Free Social category. Single days on 10-21, 10-25, and 10-26 spiked to 1,750–1,980, and other days fell back to around 300. The spikes look like budget-driven paid ads, but none of the ad libraries I checked had its creatives, so this is unverified.

The third-party estimator AppGazers puts its in-app revenue at $9.3K–$44.4K over 30 days. At that range, each install brings in about $0.6–$3 in revenue (estimated). For a dating app, that paywall is very early in the flow. The threshold for the US Google Play Social Top Grossing chart at #70–80 is just $10K–40K a month, so a few thousand men who get hooked and keep buying coins is enough.

The only confirmed source of users is Play's own exposure for new apps, plus high-intent searches like "dating" and "meet local". I couldn't find anyone discussing it in the media, on X, Reddit, or TikTok.

One more detail: 25 ratings, averaging 1.9. On 10-29, the star distribution was 13 one-star and 1 five-star. By 11-06, one-stars had grown to 18 and five-stars to 5, while the middle moved by only one three-star. Organic reviews are almost all one-star, yet 4 five-stars appeared in a single week, which looks like prompted praise (inferred).

### Behind it is a pipeline

AfterDark's privacy policy is hosted at datesparkapp.com/afterdark/PrivacyPolicy.html. The same domain also hosts the privacy policy for an iOS stain-removal app. Searching for the pattern "<domain>/<app name>/PrivacyPolicy.html" and the plant names in the package names (peony, mimosa, oleander, rose, sakura, usnea) since 2026 turns up at least 12 dating apps built on the same template, all US- or Australia-only (Google Play, 11-06):

| App | Developer account | Launched | Total installs | Charts |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AroundU | MENTINLISHA | 2026-03 | 112k | US Social Top Grossing 79 |
| LoveNest | MENTINLISHA | 2026-04 | 16k | — |
| DateSpark | DEVVVS 0088 | Around 2026-07 | AppGazers est. 30 days $1.2–58k | — |
| Avenora | MENTINLISHA | 2026-08 | 22k | US Social Top Grossing 68 |
| Rovana | kautsar.app | 2026-08 | 11k | AU Social Top Free 82 |
| MeetX | Smart Ent | 2026-09 | 12k | US Social Top Grossing 198 |
| DateRush | Marah Games | 2026-09 | 6,855 | US Social Top Free 184 |
| **AfterDark** | **DEVVVS 0088** | **2026-10-05** | **14k** | **US Social Top Grossing 78** |
| Meetly | kautsar.app | 2026-10 | 6,102 | US Social Top Grossing 158 |
| Meetvibe | kautsar.app | 2026-10 | 2,802 | — |
| Elovia | NU Online Academy | 2026-10 | 5,843 | AU Social Top Free 159 |
| Lumora | IGOOD GOLF | 2026-10 | 1,843 | US Social Top Free 142 |
| Velique | kautsar.app | 2026-10 | 990 | — |

The developer name gives it away: "DEVVVS 0088" is one of a batch of numbered accounts. Its siblings 0043, 0076, and 0141 publish a PDF reader, a soccer app, a slot game, and an Indonesia travel app. Someone in the Google Play community has reported 0043 as a scam developer. 0088 also owns a unit converter and two Indonesia travel apps, which suggests the original owner made travel apps and the account was later repurposed to publish dating apps (inference). Another shell site, kismetweb.com, has a pet photo album app as its homepage, with three privacy policies hanging underneath it: AroundU, LoveNest, and Avenora.

The cadence is visible too: the same account launched DateSpark in July and AfterDark in October, about three months apart, and the whole line went out in a dense run from 9 to October, 7 apps in total. Once the ratings collapse to one star and the reports pile up, the next app goes up. Whether these dozen-plus apps belong to one company or to several buyers of the same white-label template can't be told from the outside.

### Who's competing: more than twenty look-alikes

This category is already crowded. In the US Google Play Social Top Grossing top 200 11-06, there are more than twenty newer apps launched in the past 2026 years with Dating, Meet, Chat, or Local in their names: Kizme, Muah, Bonbo, Seylo, DateGlow, Winkr, PeekMeet, LocalHeat, and more. Installs range from 5 thousand to 86k, ranking from #43 to #200, and their mechanics are nearly identical to AfterDark's. The biggest of them, NightSpark, launched in Sep 3, has 63k installs and is already at #14 on the US Social Top Grossing chart.

Above them are established players with real users, like Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, Grindr, Kismia, and Taimi, and on the other side are companion apps that openly call themselves AI (HiWaifu and similar). AfterDark sits in between: it poses as real-person dating, but it has no real-person network behind it.

### If it were you

**My call:** Don't copy it. The part that makes money, fake profiles and per-message charges, sits right on the line of Google Play's policies on fake profiles and deceptive behavior. User reviews are full of "fake", and a single banned account can take others down with it. The part that stays within the rules, real-person dating, needs a real user network, which a new app can't offer. More than twenty copies are already on the charts competing for the same keywords.

**Who it's for:** Only people who want to understand one thing: in a vertical with high willingness to pay, what decides chart position is how much money each install brings in, not install volume. A US Google Play Social Top Grossing ranking of #70–#80 takes just $10K–40K a month.

**Who it's not for:** Anyone building a long-term product, anyone who cares about account security, and anyone without a pool of spare developer accounts. This playbook depends on rotating accounts. Run it with one person and one account, and the first ban ends it.

**How to do it (if you want to borrow):** Borrow the structure, not the fake profiles. Find a high-willingness-to-pay vertical with a real need and clear search terms, where users pay for something real: live consultations, real-person tarot or astrology readings, language practice, resume reviews, with a per-session paywall up front. Run the same template as separate apps for a few niche audiences, ride the first few weeks of Play's exposure for new apps, see which one brings in the most per install, then add budget. This step is inferred; I didn't verify each vertical.

**How to get users:** The same way it does: store keywords plus new-app cold-start exposure, and if you have room, daily budgets on Google App Campaigns to reproduce its pulse pattern. Don't count on social media; nobody recommends this kind of product on TikTok.

**When to get in:** There's no window. This playbook has been running since early 2026, and the space is now a red ocean.

**Signs I got it wrong:** ① Three months from now, AfterDark and its sibling apps are still live, their ratings haven't collapsed, and the developer accounts haven't been banned. That would mean Play is turning a blind eye to this kind of app, and the bar is lower than I thought. ② One of these apps starts shipping real updates and its rating climbs above 3.5, which would mean someone is turning the shell apps into real products, a path worth another look. ③ The reverse: several sibling apps are pulled together within a month or two, which would confirm that this path doesn't last long.

Competitors

| Name | Where | Launched | Scale | How it differs from this one |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AroundU (same template) | Android | 2026-03-05 | 112k installs, US Social Top Grossing #79 | An earlier app on the same template, and bigger. AfterDark is a re-skinned successor to it. |
| DateSpark (same account) | Android | Around 2026-07 | AppGazers est. 30 days $12.1K–$57.8K | Another app from the same account, with identical features and the same bots/pay-per-message reviews |
| NightSpark-Local Dating & Chat | Android | 2026-09-03 | 63k installs, US Social Top Grossing #14 | Same playbook as the other new dating apps, but an order of magnitude bigger |
| Kizme / Muah / Bonbo / Seylo / DateGlow / Nayvi, etc. | Android | 2026-05 to 10 | 0.5–86k installs, US Social Top Grossing #43–#200 | Other teams' near-identical reskinned dating apps, almost indistinguishable |

Where users come from

- **Verified** **Rotating shell-account matrix (several purchased developer accounts + one template + shell domains hosting privacy policies)** : privacy policies follow one URL format <domain>/<app>/PrivacyPolicy.html, package names use plant names; DEVVVS 0088 was originally a numbered account publishing Indonesia travel apps; datesparkapp.com also hosts the iOS stain-removal app StainCure, and the kismetweb.com homepage is a pet app

- **Verified** **Play's new-app exposure plus dating keyword search** : #3 on AppBrain's US Top New Free Social; about ~300 installs a day in the first week with no external buzz at all

- Inferred **Paid acquisition** : daily installs come in pulses (10-21, 10-25, 10-26 at ~1,750–1,980/day, the rest at ~300); no creatives found in the Meta, Google, or TikTok ad libraries

- Inferred **Review prompting** : over one week, 5-star ratings went from 1 to 5, middle ratings stayed at zero, and the average moved from 1.29 to 1.92, while organic reviews were almost all 1 stars

## Why AfterDark – Meet & Connect (com.dupeony.afterdark) got traction

> Channel: Google Play (US only) | Developer account: DEVVVS 0088 | Launched: 2026-10-05 | Research day 2026-11-06

### Bottom line

It isn't a "product that took off." It's one new app from a **reskinned dating-wrapper pipeline** . The same team, or a shared outsourced template, rotates a batch of bought or rented Play developer accounts (DEVVVS 0088, MENTINLISHA, kautsar.app, Smart Ent, Marah Games, IGOOD GOLF, NU Online Academy, and others) through the same dating app: swipe cards, "who likes you," recent visitors, and pay-per-message chat. Only the US is targeted. Each new package rides Play's new-app exposure and dating-keyword search traffic. Coin and per-message IAP ($3.99–$69.99) push revenue into the US Social Top Grossing chart at #70–#80 within a few thousand installs. When ratings sour or reports pile up, the team swaps in the next package. There is no real differentiation. It works because of a **distribution play (wrapper matrix + new-app cold-start boost) and an aggressive early paywall** , not because of the product.

### 1. The data itself

| Metric | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Total installs | 10,018(10-29) → 14,463(11-06), +4,445 in 7 days | googleplay library app_day |
| Daily installs since launch | From 10-14 at ~300/day, it jumped three times, to ~10-21–10-25/day, ~10-26–1,750/day, and ~1,980–170/day, then fell back to ~600/day in November | Google Play library app_day_ext (historical data backfilled by AppstoreSpy) |
| US Social Top Grossing | Ranked #75–82 (best: #75,11-03) every day since 10-29; 10-30/31 also charted #189/195 on the Hong Kong Social Top Grossing chart | googleplay library chart_rank |
| Rating | 25 ratings, average 1.9; on 10-29 the star distribution was [13,0,0,0,1], by 11-06 it was [18,0,1,0,5]. Over one week, 4 new 5-star ratings came in and almost no middle ratings | Google Play library app_snap histogram |
| In-app purchases | $3.99 – $69.99 per item (sold per unit, fitting the coin/message packs) | Play listing page |
| Version | Not updated since 1.0.1,10-05 | Play listing page |
| Revenue estimate | AppGazers estimates $9.3K–$44.4K gross in-app purchase revenue over 30 days, with downloads under 5K (the US Social Top Grossing page gives another range, $8.4K–$40.4K) | appgazers.com/reports/apps/android-com.dupeony.afterdark;appgazers.com/reports/top-charts/android/us/grossing/social |
| New releases chart | AppBrain: #3 on US Top New Free Social | appbrain.com/stats/google-play-rankings/top_new_free/social/us (search snippet) |

A 14k-install climb into Top Grossing 78 implies ARPU of roughly $0.6–$3 per install (AppGazers range), which means the paywall is hitting hard for a swipe-style dating app.

### 2. What user reviews say about the product

Negative reviews on the Play listing that pushed it down (2026-10-17 to 10-19):

- "EVERY profile is fake, did not find a single real person."(Micheal Jones)

- "decide i lived in a different city... can't fix location."(Norman King)

- "couldn't even sign up using either of the options"(Canadian Bacon)

The sister app DateSpark (com.dupeony.datespark, launched 2026-07) has reviews reading "bots scammers pay per message" and "money grab. don't bother with the chat bots and fake accounts" (Play listing). Combined with paid-per-unit IAP and features like "See Who Likes You / Recent Visitors" built to induce payment, the pattern is essentially **"fake profiles / agent chats + per-message coin deduction"** . Reddit threads on r/DatingApps and r/OnlineDatingReviews complain about the same playbook in similar apps such as RAMI, Kira, and Dora. Revenue comes from a small number of hooked male users buying coins repeatedly, not from broad retention. (Whether the chat is human agents or AI is unverified.)

### 3. Competitors and the "same template" matrix

#### 3.1 sibling apps on the same template (the most important finding)

Using the uniform Play privacy-policy URL format `https://<some domain>/<app name>/PrivacyPolicy.html` and filtering on plant-named package IDs (peony, mimosa, oleander, rose, sakura, usnea), the library shows at least 12 dating apps of this type since 2026, all targeting only the US or Australia:

Signals:

- **The developer names are clearly bought or rented accounts** : "DEVVVS 0088" is one of a series of numbered accounts (DEVVVS 0043, 0076, 0080, 0141, 0152, 0157, 0219, 0223) that have published a PDF reader, a football app, a slot game, and an Indonesian travel app on Play, none related to each other. Google Play community members have reported DEVVVS 0043 as a scam developer. Two other apps under DEVVVS 0088 are LOCinfo (unit converter, 4 downloads) and the Indonesian travel apps Harper and Gonda. The developer email farego.app@gmail.com matches the com.farego.host package, suggesting the account's original owner built Indonesian travel apps before it was repurposed for dating apps. "Marah Games," "IGOOD GOLF," and "NU Online Academy" follow the same pattern.

- **Privacy policies hosted on unrelated shell sites** : datesparkapp.com hosts the privacy policies for both AfterDark and StainCure, an iOS stain-removal app. kismetweb.com's homepage is a pet photo app called "Pawfolio," and beneath it sit the privacy policies for AroundU, LoveNest, and Avenora. This is the typical overseas "wrapper app" tactic: one domain reused across apps, enough to pass review.

- Cadence: DateSpark in July, AfterDark in October. The same account swaps in a new app roughly every 3 months. The whole matrix shipped densely from 9 through October, with 7 apps in total.

#### 3.2 direct competitors (the same thing: US "nearby singles" swipe dating)

| Product | Platform | Launched | Scale | How AfterDark differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tinder / Bumble / Hinge | iOS+Android | 2012–2016 | Hundreds of millions of installs; Tinder brings in tens of millions of dollars a month | Real user network effects and brand; AfterDark has no real network at all |
| Mid-tier players like Grindr, Taimi, Kismia, and Waplog | Android | 2011–2020 | US Social Top Grossing #3–#66, tens of millions of installs | A real community; AfterDark is a one-off wrapper |
| NightSpark(StandardStream LLC) | Android | 2026-09-03 | 63k installs, US Social Top Grossing #14 | Same "new-package dating" model, but an order of magnitude bigger, likely the same playbook at larger scale |
| Kizme, Muah, Bonbo, Nayvi, Seylo, DateGlow, Winkr, Dote, PeekMeet, Xmet, LocalHeat, Fuse, and others | Android | 2026-05 to 10 | 0.5–86k installs, US Social Top Grossing #43–#200 | Other reskinned apps in the same niche with the same mechanics (different teams or templates); AfterDark is nearly indistinguishable from them |
| AI companion / AI girlfriend apps (HiWaifu, Linky, etc.) | Both platforms | From ¥2023 | tens of millions | They openly say they are AI; AfterDark is packaged as "real-person dating" |

(Source: Google Play library, US Social Top Grossing top 2026-11-06 200)

In the US Play Social Top Grossing top 200, more than twenty new apps launched in 2026 with names containing Dating, Meet, Chat, or Local. **This niche has long been crowded with copycat wrapper apps** . AfterDark didn't invent the model. It's one of many.

### 4. Growth tactics

| Channel | Evidence | Confirmed? |
|---|---|---|
| Play new-app exposure + dating keyword search | Listed #3 on AppBrain's US Top New Free Social. In its first week it held a steady ~300 new installs per day with no external promotion | Partly confirmed (chart placement confirmed, share of search traffic unverified) |
| Paid acquisition (Google App Campaigns / Meta, etc.) | Daily install curve shows pulses: 10-21, 10-25, and 10-26 hit ~1,750–1,980 in a single day, other days ~300. That shape fits budget-driven buying. However, neither our Meta ad library, the Google Ads Transparency Center, nor the TikTok EU ad library shows creatives for any app in this matrix. Ad libraries only track their tracked lists, so absence isn't proof of no spend. | Unconfirmed |
| Wrapper matrix rotation | At least 12 same-template apps and 7+ developer accounts, rotated every 3 months | Confirmed (structurally) |
| Prompted reviews | Over one week, 5-star ratings went from 1 to 5, middle ratings stayed near zero, and the average moved from 1.29 to 1.92. By comparison, organic reviews are almost all 1 stars | Suspected, unconfirmed |
| Content / creators / social / press | Jina search, X corpus (30 posts over 0 days), and TikTok search turned up no discussion of it anywhere | Confirmed none |

Where the money comes from: a small group of high-paying male users buy coins for "chat / see who likes me", up to $69.99 per item; by AppGazers' estimate range, one app brings $1–40k a month, and the whole matrix could add up to hundreds of thousands of dollars a month (extrapolated, unverified).

### 5. How visible it is

- No media, X, Reddit, or TikTok discussion; the only "visibility" is auto-generated pages on third-party chart sites like AppGazers, AppGoat, and AppBrain.

- But **the playbook itself is a public old trick** : over twenty similar new apps already exist in this niche, and a dozen or more use the same template. What "nobody knows yet" is this specific app, not the opportunity.

### 6. Differentiation

No. The feature descriptions (Discover / Swipe / Who Likes You / Recent Visitors / text, photo, and video chat) are nearly word-for-word with DateSpark and its sister apps, and 1.0.1 hasn't been updated since launch. It ran up its numbers not because of differentiation but because of: ① the cold-start boost for new apps plus dating-keyword traffic that people actually need; ② a very front-loaded coin paywall, so a small install base can generate top-grossing-level revenue; ③ matrix rotation to hedge against rating collapse and takedown risk.

### 7. What to borrow

- "Revenue per install" is what really gets these apps onto top-grossing charts. In the US store, reaching Top Grossing #70–80 in Social takes roughly $1–40k a month in revenue, so a few thousand installs can get you there.

- Multiple developer accounts, one template, and one shell domain hosting several privacy policies: low-cost mass production and batch testing.

- But this model sits right on Google Play's deceptive behavior / fake profile policy lines. User reviews are all about "fake profiles," and the whole group could be banned at any time. What's worth borrowing is "high-ARPU niche + new-app distribution rhythm," not fake-profile chat itself.

### 8. Uncertain
