# A charging station company built a ride-hailing app: GO's drivers aren't downloaders, they're renters of its cars

**What it is** The driver app of a local ride-hailing platform in Salvador, Brazil, run by an energy company that operates its own charging stations and rents BYD EVs to drivers on a weekly basis.

**Why it took off** It partnered with the largest local driver collective, where EV rental fees drop the more you drive on GO, and two launch events (pre-release, then official launch) funneled thousands of rental drivers into the app in waves.

**D** **How you could follow** Don't copy the product itself; the part worth learning is the cold-start playbook: if you hold an asset drivers can't do without (cars, chargers, gas stations), tie prices to platform volume, onboard through local driver groups in bulk, then have drivers use the QR code plate in their car to pull in passengers.

Grade D: the traction came from an R$87M charging station, its own BYD fleet and municipal government backing, none of which followers can get; the app itself is a standard dispatch system, and only the cold-start tactics are worth learning. Few people know about it yet

Data (updated daily) · first launch 2026-08-04 · 11-07 installs 6,473

Android · Total installs worldwide

Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.

Salvador, Brazil's ride-hailing driver app "GO para Motorista" has been on the store for three months, with 6,473 installs and 7 new installs in the last 1,589 days (Google Play, 11-06). It looks like a local platform that's taken off, but the company actually sells EV rentals and charging. The app is an add-on clause in the car rental contract, and the drivers were imported in bulk from a WhatsApp group of several thousand people. It's clear how it works, but indie developers can't replicate it.

### An Instagram post from Sep 29

On Sep 29, 2026, Salvador's largest ride-hailing driver collective "Ratos da Pista" posted a partnership poster on Instagram titled "RATOS DA PISTA + EDRIVE GO". The content was a price list: a brand-new BYD Dolphin EV rents for R$1,800 a week at list price, and R$1,500 for group members. If you complete 20, 40, 60, or 80 rides a week on the GO app, the weekly rent drops to R$1,400, 1,300, 1,200, and 1,100 respectively.

Ratos da Pista is a driver organization founded in 2025, connected through a dozen-plus WhatsApp groups. In April 2026, the local paper A Tarde said it had 5,000 members; in June, Correio said about 7,000; the Portuguese Wikipedia now says 9,000. This year, local drivers took to the streets over fuel prices, and they were among them.

The day before the poster went out, GO's driver app had 854 cumulative installs; a week later it was 2,966 (third-party estimate, AppstoreSpy).

### What GO actually is

GO is a local ride-hailing platform in the Salvador metro area, with separate driver and passenger apps that launched on the same day in August 4. The company behind it is e-Drive Energy, which isn't a software company but a charging company: in April 2026 16, it opened a charging station in Camaçari (an industrial city north of Salvador where BYD's Brazilian factory is located) with an investment of about R$87M and 108 fast chargers. The mayor and BYD representatives attended, and the city government website called it "the largest charging station in Brazil", saying a further R$100M would be invested.

The company holds three things in one hand:

| What it controls | How it charges |
|---|---|
| Electricity: its own charging stations | 2 free charges a week, the rest billed at R$0.89/kWh |
| Cars: 0km BYD Dolphins rented to drivers | R$1,500/week, plus a R$2,000 deposit (can be paid by card in 4 installments) |
| Rides: the GO dispatch platform | The platform takes 20%, marketed as "drivers keep 80%" |

It then ties all three together with "the more you drive on GO, the cheaper the rent." Uber and 99 don't touch cars or electricity; rental companies like Kovi and Localiza only rent cars, and drivers who rent from them still go drive for Uber; dozens of local ride-hailing apps across Brazil built on white-label systems (10k to 570k installs, Google Play) offer only software. The only one I found doing all three is GO.

### Three jumps on the install curve

Matching install numbers against its social media activity, nearly every jump lines up (installs are AppstoreSpy estimates):

- **Sep 12: only 35 installs.** On Sep 14 the official account posted "pre-release tomorrow", and a week later it reached 542.

- **Sep 29 Ratos da Pista partnership post** , a week later it jumped from 854 to 2,966.

- **Oct 7 announced the "official launch in Salvador"** , Oct 8 to 3,703. Afterward it only grew by a few dozen a day.

- **From Nov 1 to 3 it jumped about 1,500** (Google Play count, 11-01 +576, 11-03 +932), and the passenger app also rose from 3,816 to about 6,900 the same week. The official account's bio reads "Download the App, activate your coupon", so this was most likely coupons issued on both apps, **unverified** . By Nov 5 and 6 it was back to about 40 a day.

On the charts it's slipping: in Brazil's "Auto & Vehicles" Top Free, 10-29 was still at #39, while 11-06 had fallen to #182 (Google Play). The driver app has no ratings and no reviews.

### Where users come from: almost entirely offline and WhatsApp

**Driver collectives are the main channel.** One partnership brought in more drivers than the official account gained in three months combined.

**The landing page sends people straight into a WhatsApp group.** The edrivego.com headline reads "Join the group, rent your BYD Dolphin 0km", and a notification in the corner keeps popping up: "Pedro just joined the group · Camaçari · just now". The main copy tells a story drivers know well:

> Every day you run a ride the app never shows you. It brings no passengers and no ratings, yet it takes R$800, R$1,000 or more from you every month before you make any profit. That ride is run for the gas station.

They call it "Corrida Negativa" (the negative ride). Below it is a calculator where you enter daily kilometers and fuel price; the default numbers come out to "R$0.62 per km for a combustion car, R$0.14 for an EV, saving R$2,530 a month." Every button leads into the WhatsApp group, where someone walks you through documents, approval and the contract. The page lists the city as "Mata de São João", and the copy swaps by city, which suggests city-targeted Facebook/Instagram ads, **unverified** (no such advertiser turned up in the Meta Ad Library).

**Let the driver do the recruiting from inside the car.** The Oct 7 reel on the "plaquinha QR Code" model: the driver gets a QR code card, mounts it on the back of the passenger seat, and riders scan it to sign up for GO. **The driver keeps 100% of the first ride's fare.** The car can still be running Uber trips while the rider in the back sees GO's QR code. Rider-side cold start cost zero in subsidies. It ran on the back of a seat.

**Micro-influencers and driver groups in other cities.** Driver influencer @anapauladriver posted on TikTok in Sep 25: "GO is coming to Salvador, comment EU QUERO and I'll send you the signup link", 849 views; the EV creator "Diário do Carro Elétrico" published several rental reviews; in Oct 10, the Feira de Santana driver group "E-Drivers" announced a partnership and began expanding beyond Salvador.

**The official short videos barely worked.** @edrive.go has posted daily on TikTok since September: car handover ceremonies, women drivers' stories, "stop being held hostage by high commissions", each getting 100 to 400 views (TikTok, early November).

### Where the money comes from

Not in the app. Per the landing page prices, a driver pays R$1,500 a week in rent, with charging beyond 2 sessions billed per kWh to the same company; the platform's 20% cut is on top. So the driver-app install count reflects "drivers pulled in to rent cars," not consumer demand.

That's also its weak point: drivers who rent a GO car can still drive for Uber, 99; the landing page itself has a line reading "Driving Uber Black? Run the mileage numbers again." Passenger installs reached 11-06 7,124 (Google Play), and the iOS passenger app has only 8 ratings (App Store, Brazil). Fleet size and how many rides drivers actually take on GO aren't visible from outside.

### How many people know about it

Very little. The only coverage was from the Camaçari city government and two or three small Bahia local outlets, and it was about the charging station opening, not the app; X has no discussion; revenue isn't disclosed; and I haven't found anyone copying the "energy + fleet + dispatch" bundle.

### If it were you

**Verdict:** Don't chase the product itself. It rests on an R$87M charging station, a batch of new BYD cars and municipal backing, none of which indie developers can access; the app is an ordinary ride-hailing dispatch system, and white-label options are everywhere. What's worth taking is its cold-start tactics.

**Who it suits:** People who already hold an asset that drivers or workers can't do without: a fleet, charging points, battery swap stations, gas stations, repair shops, insurance channels, who want to pair that asset with a dispatch or booking app to lock people in. Also small teams doing outsourcing or white-label systems for these companies; GO's logic of "rent falls as platform volume rises" can be built into your product as a feature to sell.

**Who it doesn't suit:** Anyone with only software who wants to build a local ride-hailing app to compete with Uber or 99. Without cars and energy, you're just one more of the dozens of white-label local apps in Brazil, and why would drivers come?

**How to do it:** Get the asset first, then the app. Tie the asset's price to behavior on the platform (GO cuts rent in four tiers based on weekly rides, up to 20/40/60/80), so "using your app" becomes the condition for saving money rather than a choice you have to persuade people to make.

**How to acquire users:** Find existing local driver collectives and negotiate partnerships, offer group members an exclusive price, and onboard thousands at once; make the landing page do one thing, send people into a WhatsApp group where someone helps them sign up; let the calculator explain the "negative ride" in terms drivers instantly understand; and on the passenger side, let drivers pull rides with the QR plate in their car, with the first fare going entirely to them.

**When to move:** No rush. EV adoption in Brazil is rising, BYD is cutting prices locally, and the government has driver car-purchase programs; this holds for the next three to five years. The real barrier is assets, not timing.

**What would show I got it wrong:** ① If after 3 months the GO passenger app is still under ten thousand installs and the iOS rating is still single digits, the platform is just a rental shell, the dispatch layer never took off, and "locking in ride volume with rent" doesn't hold people; ② conversely, if GO expands beyond Salvador, or Uber or 99 starts co-marketing with rental companies on "drive more, rent cheaper", that would show the model is real and worth packaging as a general product for anyone with assets.

## GO para Motorista (e-Drive Energy): why it's working

> Channel: Google Play (Brazil) | Package com.edriveenergy.go.driver | Research date 2026-11-06

### One line

The driver app for GO, a local ride-hailing platform in the Salvador metro area of Brazil. The parent company, e-Drive Energy, builds charging infrastructure and has invested about R$87M in a charging station in Camaçari. It bundles three things: owned BYD EVs rented to drivers (R$1,500/week), owned charging stations, and its own dispatch platform. Installs on the driver side are climbing fast, but that doesn't show the rider side has taken off. The real reason is that this energy company needs drivers for its fleet and charging network, so it recruited them in bulk through Ratos da Pista, Salvador's largest driver community.

### 1. Data

- Installs: global cumulative 6,473,7 days up 1,589 (+33%); best Auto & Vehicles Top Free rank in Brazil 182. Chart rank is sliding: 10-29, then 39/54,11-06, then 133/182 (googleplay library chart_rank / app_profile, 2026-11-06).

- Install curve since launch (googleplay library app_day_ext, AppstoreSpy estimates):
    - Launched Aug 4; by Sep 12 only 35 installs;
    - From 9-14 to 9-21 it climbed to 103 and 542 (matching the Sep 15 soft launch);
    - 9-28 was 854; 10-05 was 2,966,10-08 and 3,703 (matching the Oct 7 official launch);
    - After that, dozens per day, 10-29 was 4,884;
    - From 11-01 to 11-03 it jumped another +1,508 (11-01 +576,11-03 +932; our daily snapshot), then 11-05 and 11-06 settled back to about 40 per day.

- Rider side, GO: Peça uma Viagem (com.edriveenergy.go.passenger): 7,124 installs, 7 days +3,308, launched the same day. The rider app also jumped that week (11-03 went from 3,816 to 6,900). So the early-November wave pushed both sides of the platform, not just driver recruitment. The iOS rider app (id6785560302) has only 8 ratings (iTunes lookup, br).

- No ratings or reviews; ratings is empty in the data card.

### 2. Competitors

| Competitors | Where | Launched | Scale | How it differs from GO |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 99 Motorista | Android/iOS | 2017 | 41.8M installs, 7 days +167K (googleplay library) | National platform with a higher commission (GO's pitch is "drivers keep 80%"). In 2024 it partnered with BYD and Osten to give drivers 200 Dolphins (TikTok @falacomigo_da_99) |
| Uber Driver (includes the Uber Elétrico category) | Android/iOS | 2014 | 233M installs (global) | Doesn't own cars or build charging stations; EVs are just one category |
| inDrive | Android/iOS | 2015 | 389M installs (global) | Passenger bids the price; likewise no cars or energy involved |
| Local white-label ride-hailing apps (Urbano Norte, Vai de Boa, Te Levo, Rota77, IDE+ and others, mostly built on the drivermachine white-label system) | Android | From ¥2018 | 10K to 570K installs (googleplay library) | Same "local, low-commission" pitch, but all software with no fleet or energy. GO is also a local app; the difference is that it has cars and charging stations behind it |
| Reuel | Web/app | Not verified | Not verified | Also dispatches only EVs (reuel.app.br), but we found no owned charging stations or rental business |
| GoEco Motorista(Espírito Santo) | Android | 2025 | 1,110 installs | A new local platform in another state, similar scale |
| EV rentals for drivers: Kovi, Localiza×BYD, EV Drive (Dolphin Mini R$1,400/week), FF Locadora, Rental Drive (Curitiba R$1,599/week), BYD subscriptions | Web | Most are 2020+ years old | Kovi is the national leader | Rental only: drivers still run Uber/99 on the rented car. GO combines rental, charging, and dispatch, and its pitch is "the more you drive on GO, the cheaper the weekly rent" |
| Government Move Brasil taxi/app driver car-purchase plan + BYD driver discounts (Dolphin GS R$139,990) | Policy | 2026 | Nationwide | Lets drivers buy the car themselves; GO rents it to drivers |

Bottom line: lots of players run "local low-commission ride-hailing," and lots rent EVs to drivers. Within the scope we checked, only GO puts energy, fleet, and dispatch under one company.

### 3. Where users came from (growth tactics)

1. **Partnership with driver community Ratos da Pista (confirmed, the main driver)** . Ratos da Pista is a ride-hailing driver collective founded 2025 years ago in Salvador. In 2026 April it had over 5,000 people across about 15 WhatsApp groups (A Tarde); in June about 7,000 (Correio); Wikipedia lists 9,000 (pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ratos_da_Pista). 2026-09-29 It posted a "RATOS DA PISTA + EDRIVE GO" partnership on Instagram with these terms (instagram.com/p/Dd3reI9Tp3D):
    - Weekly rent list price R$1,800, member price R$1,500;
    - **Drivers doing 20–39 / 40–59 / 60–79 / 80+ rides per week on the GO app get weekly rent down to R$1,400 / 1,300 / 1,200 / 1,100** .

This turns "people renting cars" into "drivers on the GO platform." Driver-side installs climbed from 854 to 2,966 between 9-28 and 10-05, matching the timing of the partnership post.

1. **Pre-launch, then full launch (confirmed)** . @edrivego.app 9-14 posted "pre-launch tomorrow" (instagram.com/p/DdSfVJ-EQ5F), pitching "drivers keep 80% of the net fare, the platform takes 20%", plus gamification, GO Academy and resort weekend rewards. 10-07 announced "official launch in El Salvador" (instagram.com/reel/DeMPqk7j9kc). Both dates line up with the two jumps in the install curve.

2. **QR code cards for drivers to recruit riders (confirmed)** . At the official launch they posted the "plaquinha QR Code": drivers mount a QR card on the passenger seat back, riders scan to sign up, and **the driver gets 100% of the first fare** (same reel). Drivers recruit riders for the platform from their Uber/99 rides, which is how they solved the rider-side cold start.

3. **WhatsApp group + landing page (confirmed)** . Every button on edrivego.com opens a WhatsApp group, with social proof like "Pedro just joined the group · Camaçari." The landing page copy changes by city; the version we saw says "Mata de São João," which suggests city-targeted Meta ads are likely running (**unverified** ; our Meta Ad Library doesn't index this advertiser). The page also has an earnings calculator showing "EV costs R$0.14/km vs R$0.62 for gas."

4. **Small driver influencers and EV creators (confirmed, small reach)** :
    - Driver influencer @anapauladriver posted "GO App just came to El Salvador, comment EU QUERO and I'll send you the sign-up link" to 9-25, which got 849 TikTok views;
    - EV creator "Diário do Carro Elétrico" posted several GO rental reviews on Facebook and Instagram;
    - The Ferrari Santana driver group E-Drivers announced a partnership 10-10, starting to expand beyond Salvador (instagram.com/p/DeVWai1lQYR).

5. **Official TikTok @edrive.go (confirmed, almost no traction)** : daily posts since September, covering car handover ceremonies, female driver stories, and "stop being trapped by high commissions." Each video gets only 100–400 views (TikHub).

6. **Offline assets and government backing (confirmed)** : The Camaçari charging station opened with 2026-04-16, with the mayor and a BYD PR manager attending. The city government site (camacari.ba.gov.br) reported it as "Brazil's largest charging station," with 108 fast chargers and a plan to invest another R$100M. The BYD factory is in Camaçari.

### 4. Why it took off

- **The money and margin are in the cars and electricity; the app is the tool that locks drivers in.** Drivers pay R$1,500 weekly rent plus a R$2,000 deposit, get 2 free charges a week, and pay R$0.89/kWh beyond that, all at e-Drive's own stations. The platform's 20% cut is extra income. Weekly rent drops as GO ride volume rises, which gives drivers a reason to prioritize GO trips. Driver-side installs reflect "car rental plus drivers pulled into the community," not consumer demand.

- **The driver pain point is direct** : fuel costs (the landing page calls it "Corrida Negativa," meaning R$800–1,000 a month handed to gas stations) plus the cut taken by Uber/99. In 2026 Ratos da Pista also joined a protest over fuel prices (Wikipedia), so the timing fits.

- **It borrowed an existing organization** : Ratos da Pista has several thousand Salvador drivers, and one partnership is worth months of paid acquisition.

- **Local resources** : the BYD factory, city government support, and in-house charging stations are all in the same metro area, which no other local app has.

### 5. Differentiation, and whether it's really why it grew

The differentiation is **vertical integration** : one company runs the electricity (charging stations), the cars (0km BYD Dolphin rentals), and the dispatch (GO orders, taking 20%), then ties all three together with "the more you drive, the lower your rent." Uber/99 don't touch cars or electricity, car rental companies don't do dispatch, and local white-label apps are software only.

This differentiation is **exactly why driver-side installs took off** : users come for cheap electric cars and lower fuel costs, and installing the app is part of the rental terms. But whether the rider side can take off is unproven: the rider app has only 7 thousand installs and 8 iOS ratings, and drivers can still take Uber/99 rides in their GO cars. The landing page even includes a section explaining whether "running Uber Black" pays off.

### 6. How many people know about it

**Few people know about it yet.**

- Only local outlets such as the Camaçari city government, Bahia Sem Fronteiras, and A Nota Bahia have reported the charging station opening.

- No formal media coverage of the GO app itself was found.

- No related content in the X corpus (x-radar).

- Revenue is not public.

- The official TikTok gets only a few hundred views per post.

### 7. Copycats

No one copying the "energy + fleet + platform" model directly was found. Salvador has plenty of EV rental companies (Clikcar's Dolphin Mini, etc.), but none do dispatch.

### 8. What others can learn

- In second- and third-tier cities, cold-starting a ride-hailing service can begin with **supply-side assets** (cars, energy) rather than rider subsidies. Trading rent discounts for driver ride volume on your own platform is cheaper than cash bonuses and locks drivers in better.

- **Partner with local driver collectives.** Many Brazilian cities have WhatsApp driver groups, and one partnership can onboard thousands of drivers.

- Let drivers use QR-code signs on cars from other platforms to pull riders, with the first fare going entirely to the driver.

- Customize the landing page copy by city, link the button directly to the WhatsApp group, and add a fuel/electricity cost calculator.

### 9. Still unclear

- No data on GO's fleet size, actual driver ride volume on GO, or daily active riders.

- The reason both sides jumped between 11-01 and 11-03 may be coupons or new service areas (the @edrivego.br bio says "download the app and activate your coupon"), **unverified** .

- Whether they run Meta ads: the landing page copy is customized by city, so presumably yes, **unverified** .

- Play counts only update every other day (the daily gains alternate between 0 and big jumps), so don't trust any single day's increase.

- The funding source of e-Drive Energy and CEO Tarcísio Oliveira's background: unverified.
