2k installs got EdenChat onto the Taiwan Top Grossing chart. It's not a new app: it's a batch of heavy Korean users who moved over with their balances

What it is The Android client of a Korean AI roleplay platform: users and creators write characters and worlds, and people play out storylines together. Users pick their own models and buy credits based on actual usage.

Why it took off Its predecessor, EveChat, had its payments stopped by Stripe, so paying users and their balances moved over wholesale. Then in October it opened international payments and one-click translation of Korean works into Japanese and Traditional Chinese, and added invite codes. Heavy players in Taiwan, Japan, and Thailand spend a lot, so two thousand installs was enough to reach the Top Grossing chart.

CHow you could follow I don't recommend building a similar app from scratch. The most worthwhile move is to sell its setup (per-token billing, multiple models, automatic work translation) as a tool to existing RP sites that already have communities, or to take local creators into languages it hasn't reached yet.

C grade: it relies on paying users migrated from its predecessor and an existing Korean works library, which followers can't get. The niche is already crowded in Korea and Taiwan, and adult content carries payment and listing risk. The playbook is worth learning, but copying it isn't worth it. Chatter in small circles

EdenChat is a Korean AI roleplay website, and 28 October it launched an Android app. By November 6, it had only 2,098 installs total on Google Play, yet reached #52 on the Taiwan Entertainment Top Grossing chart. Three things explain how so few installs can chart: the people paying are older users moved over from another site, billing is per token so heavy players spend a lot, and in October it auto-translated its Korean works library into several languages for overseas sale. Below I break these down, and explain why it's hard to copy.

An invite-code post on Bahamut

On 2026 October 1 at 7:30 AM, a user called 「野生ㄈㄓ」 posted 《Eden Chat 沈浸式 AI 對話的聊天平台》 on the Taiwanese forum Bahamut. The post opened with an invite code: enter it within 24 hours of signing up, and both sides get 1,000 credits, valid until October 31 (Korea time). He then added:

Pure sharing, I've already paid for 2 orders totaling 660k credits

He screenshotted his conversation count and recommended several 「works」: an academy story with a very large world and 60 characters; an idol-themed piece where the author gave the characters an AI-generated song; and one he guessed was written by someone in Taiwan, set in Zhonghe, New Taipei. The last paragraph was a money-saving tip: if the storyline runs long, 「long-term memory」 makes each conversation's input grow, so a single turn costs 200+ credits. You should raise the memory summary interval above the default of 5 turns.

By early November the thread had 1,397 views, and in Oct 30 a new user still commented that they had just gotten into it. In this one thread you can already see most of EdenChat's pieces: heavy spenders, usage-based pricing, user-written content, and invite codes used to pull in new users.

What it actually is

An analogy: it's like a hosted SillyTavern with a works marketplace added.

  • Works: creators write worlds, characters, opening lines, and a lorebook setting library, then publish them. Users go in and play out storylines with those characters. Topics are varied: fantasy, romance, wuxia, campus. The website has adult content behind adult verification; the Play rating is Teen.
  • Models: users choose their own model. Gemini, DeepSeek, GLM and others are available. In 14 October it integrated Gemini 4 Argon and kept Google's half-price rate through November 30. Models with few users are removed.
  • Billing: credits are charged at actual token cost plus a 20% markup. Credit packs are priced on Play from $4.49 to $239.99. If a reply is poor, you can get a one-click automatic refund.
  • Selling points (from reviews on the Korean namu wiki entry): long-term memory summarizes well, prompts can be up to 100k characters, and lorebooks are unlimited.

The audience is specific: heavy roleplay players who find monthly-subscription apps not good enough, and who don't want to set up their own API keys and tune parameters.

Where users came from: one payment-risk review carried the whole predecessor site over

EdenChat didn't start from zero. It has a predecessor called EveChat.

EveChat launched 2025 August, took payments through the overseas gateway Stripe, didn't operate under Korean law, and had uncensored adult content. The same team then opened a second site under Korean law, which is EdenChat (namu lists its launch date as 2026-01-06), intended to help Korean creators reduce legal risk.

In 2026 January, Stripe ran a sweep of adult-oriented AI companion merchants, and EveChat could no longer accept payments. On Feb 6 EveChat announced its shutdown, and payment records, usage history, some works and characters, and chat logs all moved to EdenChat wholesale. EveChat officially closed on Mar 31. namu's wording: the same operator having EdenChat ready in advance turned out to be a masterstroke.

The second wave of users came in 2026 August. namu says several competing sites had controversies in quick succession, users moved over, and the cheap Gemini 3.7 Flash launched at the same time. EdenChat's user base grew, and from mid-August onward its servers kept failing. Which competitors had the incidents: unverified.

So the "installed 2K in a few days after launch" you see on Play is really a batch of users already paying, moving to a new entry point. The official site's Oct 28 App launch notice links straight to the Play listing, and installs bunched up in the days after: 11-02 is 1,671,11-03 is 1,896,11-05 is 2,098 (Google Play installs).

Going global in October: the timeline matches the chart dates

Taiwan, Japan, and Thailand charted almost simultaneously, which is no coincidence. Timeline from the official announcements:

DateWhat they did
Around 10-01Invite-code campaign: both sides get 1,000 credits, ends 10-31
10-06International payments via Stripe (international cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay), with foreign-currency prices no higher than the Korean won price
10-19Automatic work translation: settings, characters, openings, and lorebooks translated into Korean, English, Japanese, and Traditional Chinese with one click
10-28Android app launched, iOS under review
11-03Thai added to the interface
11-06Announcement: creator earnings overseas use the same split as in Korea; Simplified Chinese, Thai, and Spanish coming next

Chart trends (Google Play): Taiwan Entertainment Top Grossing climbed from #85 (10-31) to #52 (11-06), and Taiwan's overall Top Grossing chart rose from #199 (11-03) to #170; Korea Entertainment Top Grossing sat between #112 and #126; Japan Entertainment Top Grossing #191; Thailand first charted at #101, 11-06, three days after the Thai interface was added.

The most critical step was 10-19. The large body of works Korean creators had built became Japanese and Traditional Chinese with one click, so Taiwanese and Japanese users had ready-made content to play from day one, without waiting for local creators to build up. Taiwanese users on Bahamut and Dcard, and Japanese users posting #エデンチャット on X, were all posting invite codes themselves. Shared work links carry a user_share tag, showing the spread path was designed in advance.

Where the money comes from: usage-based billing, and heavy users who can't stop

In Nov 6 the official site published a few numbers: more than half of conversations happen outside Korea, 10k+ overseas users visit daily, and 48% of creator earnings come from overseas users. These are company self-reported figures; web-side total users and revenue have never been published.

It charges by usage, so the longer the story, the more you pay. In other apps that's a flaw; here it's the revenue engine. The Taiwanese player above bought two packs, 660k points, and past 200 points per session is normal for long stories. Climbing to #52 on Taiwan's Entertainment Top Grossing chart doesn't take much, so a few hundred players like this are enough to push it up (inference). Pricing at real token cost also helps: the heavier users spend, the more the platform earns, so it avoids the problem of flat-fee products where heavy users eat all the margin.

Pricing has also caused trouble. In September there was an "exchange rate dispute": the platform converted API costs at 1 USD = 1,600 KRW, well above the real rate. It later switched to recalculating monthly at the previous month's average rate; in November it was 1 USD = 1,337 KRW (per the official site announcement 11-01).

Who it's competing with

The Korean AI character chat market is crowded: in Nov, 6 of the top 200 entertainment Top Grossing spots on Korea's Google Play were in this category, with roughly 40 similar apps.

CompetitorsScale (Google Play)How it differs from EdenChat

ElynWeb, scale unknownHit by the same Stripe shutdown, restored with a Korean domestic payment provider, competing for the same users
SillyTavern / RisuAIOpen source, bring your own keySimilar capability ceiling, but you set it up yourself

EdenChat's niche is narrow: it doesn't fight Zeta or Crack for the mass market, only for the heaviest, most willing-to-pay layer.

Does anyone know about it?

It only spreads in small circles. In Korea there's a namu wiki entry and discussion on DCinside and arca.live; in Taiwan there are invite-code threads on Bahamut and Dcard; in Japan there are sporadic posts on X and Yahoo Chiebukuro. No press coverage, and revenue isn't public. Two recommendation posts on r/CharacterAIRefugees read like soft ads; I couldn't verify whether they were official.

On paid acquisition: no ads found in public ad libraries, and no related TikTok videos either. Ad library coverage is incomplete, so this doesn't prove they didn't spend.

If it were you

C: Worth learning from, not worth copying. EdenChat's run worked because of a whole user base migrated from a predecessor site with paying users, plus a Korean creator library built up over half a year. Followers can't get either of those, and the Korean and Taiwanese AI character chat markets are already packed with big companies and veteran players.

Who it fits: teams that already have a roleplay community or creator group (Discord, forums, web sites all count) and paying users. What you may be missing is exactly what EdenChat has: transparent per-token billing, multi-model routing, automatic work translation.

Who it doesn't fit: anyone trying to build an "AI character chat app" from scratch and list it in stores. Without a content pool there's nothing to translate; without existing users, high-ticket usage billing won't take off; and with adult content, you face payment channels that can be shut down at any time (EveChat died this way) and app store review.

How to build it: two routes. One is to build a tool, not a platform: a hosted back office for small and mid-sized RP sites that already have a content library, offering multi-model routing, per-token billing, and one-click translation into multiple languages. The site owner keeps the content and the users. The other is to pick a language EdenChat hasn't entered yet, like Spanish, Indonesian, or Vietnamese, but only if you can first line up a group of local creators, and have two payment channels ready from day one. EdenChat said in Nov 6 it will add Simplified Chinese, Thai, and Spanish, so the window for those languages is closing.

How to acquire users: copy its playbook. Give both sides points through invite codes, and have veteran users post guides in local forums (Bahamut, Dcard, X hashtags) on "how much I spent and which works to recommend". Tag shared work links with their source so creators bring in readers for their own earnings. The week a new model launches or gets a price cut is the best time to recruit.

Timing: if you want the "translation + going global" route, you need to move before EdenChat has Simplified Chinese, Thai and Spanish fully in place. At its current pace, my estimate is Q1 of 2027.

What would show this read is wrong: (1) within a few weeks of iOS approval, EdenChat enters Japan's or Taiwan's entertainment Top Grossing top 30, which would mean work translation for overseas markets is bigger than it looks and other languages are worth pursuing seriously; (2) conversely, if Google Play delists it over adult content, or international payments get shut off again, then payment and review risk on this path outweighs the revenue; (3) if its Taiwan Top Grossing rank drops below #100 by late November, the chart spot was a one-time spike from existing users migrating.

EdenChat: AI Character Chat (com.everden.app): why it broke out

Channel: Google Play; developer: Eden Creative Studio (a Delaware LLC; team and users in Korea); research date 2026-11-06

Bottom line

This isn't a cold start for a new product. EdenChat is a Korean web-based AI roleplay platform that launched 2026-01 and is the successor to EveChat. The Android app is essentially a shell for a group of existing paying users. What the store shows, "two weeks after listing, 2k installs, reached #52 on Taiwan's entertainment Top Grossing chart", reflects two things: existing web users moving over, and the platform going global for the whole of October. It turned on Stripe international payments first, then launched automatic work translation, and ran invite-code acquisition in Taiwan and Japan. The spenders are heavy RP players billed per token, with the top points pack at $239.99, so even a small number of installs can chart.

1. Data (our googleplay database, as of 2026-11-06)

  • Cumulative installs 2,098 (store shows 1K+). First observed installs on 11-02, when 1,671 was already listed; 11-03 is 1,896,11-05 is 2,098. On the card, 10-30 to 11-01 was recorded as 0; probably not sampled or below threshold, not a true 0.
  • Store listing date 2026-10-08; the official site's "Android App official release" announcement is at 2026-10-28 (eden-chat.com/announcements).
  • Charts (chart_rank):
    • Taiwan entertainment Top Grossing climbed steadily: 85(10-31) → 79 → 72 → 64 → 57 → 56 → 52(11-06); Taiwan overall app Top Grossing 199(11-03) → 170(11-06).
    • Korea: first charted on the entertainment Top Free chart 96/87/111 (10-30 to 11-01), moved to entertainment Top Grossing from 11-02, hovering around 112–126.
    • Japan entertainment Top Grossing 194 (11-05), 191 (11-06); Thailand entertainment Top Grossing 101 (first charted 11-06).
  • In-app purchase range $4.49–$239.99. Play content rating: Teen.
  • iOS: The official site says "under review." It doesn't show up in iTunes search or in our App Store database yet.

2. Who it is: EveChat → EdenChat

(Source: namu.wiki entries on EdenChat / EveChat, body text scraped via Exa; DCinside AI 채팅 갤 "속보) 이브챗 섭종" 2026-02-06)

  • EveChat launched on 2025-08-08. It was a Korean AI character chat site that took overseas payments via Stripe, so it was not bound by Korean law and had no censorship or NC-21 restrictions. To reduce the legal risk for Korean creators, the same operator opened a second site run under Korean law, EdenChat (namu lists its launch as 2026-01-06). Unlocking the safety filter requires adult verification, and uncensored characters can't be uploaded.
  • On 2026-01, Stripe ran a sweep of adult-oriented AI companion merchants, and EveChat could no longer take payments (Elyn was also shut down around the same time and later restored after switching to Toss Payments). On 2026-02-06, EveChat announced its shutdown and moved users to EdenChat: payment info, transaction history, part of the works and characters, and chat logs were all transferred. EveChat officially closed on 2026-03-31. In namu's words: "The same operator had prepared EdenChat in advance, which turned out to be a masterstroke."
  • 2026-08 brought the second wave of traffic. namu wrote: "Several controversies at rival sites pushed users over, and the launch of the cheap Gemini 3.7 Flash grew EdenChat's user base." Then from mid-August the servers repeatedly went down. In September there was an "exchange rate dispute": the platform added a 20% operating fee on top of actual API costs, but converted at 1 USD = 1,600 KRW. It later switched to recalculating monthly at the previous month's average rate (in November it was 1 USD = 1,337 KRW, per the official announcement 11-01).

3. Going global in October: why Taiwan, Japan, and Thailand charted together

Official announcements timeline (eden-chat.com/announcements):

  • 10-06: Added Stripe international payments (international cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay), to "make it easier for users outside Korea to buy points." Foreign-currency point packages are priced no higher than the KRW price.
  • 10-14: Launched Gemini 4 Argon (billed at half of Google's price until 11-30), dropped low-usage Kimi K3 and Qwen 3.7, and moved DeepSeek and GLM under "other models." This shows it is multi-model routing with per-token resale.
  • 10-19: Automatic translation of works, which translates a work (including settings, characters, openings, and lorebook) into Korean, English, Japanese, and Traditional Chinese with one click. Because Korean creators have stored large numbers of works, Japanese and Taiwanese users can read them directly.
  • 10-28: Android app launched; iOS under review.
  • 11-03: Thai was added to the interface language, so Thai users can read English-version works and chat in Thai. This lines up with 11-06 being the first time it charted in Thailand.
  • The homepage now mixes Japanese works (アルタ "EN GARDE") and Thai works (ฮานิ), so the multilingual content pool is already running.

VI. Why it made it to the charts

  1. Users came over with their money, not newly acquired. Stripe's cleanup of adult AI companion merchants forced EveChat to stop. The operator had already prepared the compliant EdenChat, so paying users, balances, and works all moved over together (namu). The Play app is just a new entrance for these same people.
  2. Each user spends a lot, so few installs can still reach the top-grossing chart. Per-token billing and 100k-character long-term memory get more expensive the more you use them (a Bahamut post says long memory pushes a single conversation past 200 points; the poster themselves bought 660k points). Point packages go up to $239.99. Ranking #52 on Taiwan's entertainment top-grossing chart is a low bar, and a few hundred heavy paying users is enough.
  3. The October overseas push, all together: 10-06 international payments, 10-19 automatic work translation, 10-28 an Android app, 11-03 Thai interface, plus an invite-code campaign running until 10-31 for 1,000 points. Taiwanese and Japanese users posted invite codes themselves on Bahamut, Dcard, and X, creating a referral loop. This matches the chart timing in Taiwan, Japan, and Thailand.
  4. The product has real advantages for heavy RP players (namu's assessment): good long-memory summaries, a prompt space of 100k characters, unlimited lorebook, one-click automatic refunds for bad replies, the option to choose which characters appear, and a choice of multiple models.

VII. Differentiation

EdenChat is essentially "hosted Risu/SillyTavern + a UGC works marketplace + transparent API resale." It charges real token cost plus 20%, lets users pick Gemini, DeepSeek, GLM, and other models, has no cap on long memory or lorebook, and auto-refunds bad replies. It serves heavy players who find monthly-subscription apps insufficient but don't want to configure APIs themselves. This is why it keeps paying users. But the direct reason it broke through this time (the Play chart) is not differentiation. It's existing users moving to the app, plus the overseas trio (international payments, auto translation, invite codes). Differentiation determines whether people are willing to pay; timing (Stripe risk controls, rival troubles, cheap models) determines where they come from.

8. Visibility and copycats

  • It's circulating in small circles: in Korea there's a namu wiki entry and DCinside/arca discussion; in Taiwan there are invite-code posts on Bahamut and Dcard; in Japan there are scattered posts on X and Chiebukuro. No media coverage, no public revenue, and 0 mentions in x-radar.
  • Copycats: I haven't seen anyone specifically copying EdenChat. The model of per-token pricing plus UGC works already exists in Korea (Elyn, BabeChat, etc.), so it isn't a new species.

9. What to borrow

  • A compliant "backup site": one team runs a compliant site and a gray-area site. When a payment channel gets hit, users and balances migrate together without re-acquiring anyone.
  • Transparent per-token billing plus multi-model: costs and pricing are directly linked, so heavy users can't eat your margin. Plug in new models as soon as they come out, and pass vendor discounts on to users as a marketing point.
  • Auto-translate a UGC content pool to go overseas: one Korean works library, translated into Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and English with one click, plus international payments and two-sided invite-code rewards, lets you get into Taiwan and Japan cheaply.
  • Web first, app later: the app only takes in existing paying users, which looks like "low installs, high grossing" in the store.

10. Uncertainties

  • There is no public data on web MAU or revenue. Play's 2,098 installs are only a small part of the total.
  • August "competitor drama": which company, unverified; whether the Reddit post in English is official soft promotion, unverified.
  • Whether it runs paid acquisition: our ad libraries don't cover it, so we can't rule it out.
  • When the iOS version passed review; whether Thailand has a dedicated promotion.
  • Whether the safe-search filter and adult-content policy will get it stuck on Google Play (the Play rating is Teen, while adult content on the web requires age verification).
