> Stringers answers one question every day: what small product can one or two people build in a few months and actually make money from. Numbers come from 15 databases we collect daily, each with source and date.
> For agents: these verdicts and the underlying databases (verified revenue, App Store / Google Play charts, ad libraries, GitHub, Product Hunt…) are queryable live over MCP — tools today / hot / products / directions / direction / data. > It buys install ads in countries where installs are cheap, and runs ads from more than a dozen ad sources bidding to turn each install into ad revenue. It also files itself under Productivity. With a few thousand to twenty thousand installs a day, it can chart and stands out more than it would crowded inside Tools.

# One app with cleaner, antivirus and VPN: Fast Cleaner VPN and the misfiled-category chart hack

**What it is** A phone utility bundle that cleans junk, scans for viruses and includes a VPN. It earns from ads and is mainly installed in Nigeria and the Philippines.

**Why it took off** It buys very cheap installs in low-cost countries, uses a dozen-plus ad networks bidding to turn each install into ad revenue, and files itself under Productivity. At a few thousand to 20K installs a day it can chart there, which is far more visible than being buried among Tools apps.

**C** **How you could apply it** Don't copy a cleaner app; it's not recommended. Two ideas are worth borrowing: in a crowded category, first look for a neighboring category with a low chart threshold in a small country, and in low-cost markets, pair ad mediation with high-priced in-app purchases to recoup costs, then move that to a less crowded category with lower policy risk.

Grade C: the business makes money, but it's already packed with well-funded going-global teams that have account networks and ready-made templates. The app itself is a mid-to-small piece of a production line, and it's declining. Cleaners and VPNs are also the categories Google Play polices hardest. The category arbitrage and monetization structure are worth studying, but copying it isn't worth the effort. Few people know about it yet

Data (updated daily) · first launch 2026-09-21 · 11-07 installs 180,384

Android · Total installs worldwide

Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.

Fast Cleaner VPN is a Google Play bundle of cleaner, antivirus, VPN and system tools. It launched in Sep 21, reached 180K installs by Nov 6, and 118K of those came in the last 7 days. Its best rank was #15 in Nigeria and #19 in the Philippines, in Productivity Top Free. Nothing in the product is new, and others have run this formula to tens of millions of installs over 2019 years. What it did right was two things: buying volume in cheap-install markets like Nigeria and the Philippines, and putting a cleaner app in Productivity instead of competing with hundreds of similar apps in Tools. Below is how the business works and whether it's worth copying.

### A "nice" with 453 people marking it helpful

On Oct 17, Nigerian user Kehinde Adejumo gave Fast Cleaner VPN five stars with only "one of the best app do far"; by early November it had 453 helpful votes. The day before, a five-star review that just said "nice" got 153 helpful votes.

On the other side, on Oct 26 someone gave one star: "you're VPN has issues" (159 helpful votes); on Oct 23: "keeps cutting out", constant disconnects; on Oct 24: "your massages are disturbing me", meaning the push notifications are too annoying (Google Play reviews, NG / PH stores, 11-06).

The whole app has only 192 ratings, averaging 4.16 stars, with 135 five-star and 21 one-star ratings. 180K installs produced 192 ratings, about one in a thousand; apps that grow through word of mouth and search usually get several times that rate. Most positive reviews are only a word or two, and one- or two-word reviews collecting hundreds of "helpful" votes is also unusual (unverified whether they were manipulated). These numbers suggest most people who installed it didn't come looking for it.

### What it is

Opening it shows a row of features: VPN (with upload/download speed and server location), virus scan ("quick scan three checkpoints, deep scan four"), junk cleaning, duplicate photos, large files, app usage time, notification management, Wi-Fi security check, speed test, battery info, and chat app cache cleaning. The store page's one-line description is "Remove junk files, scan for malware, manage storage, and connect via VPN."

| Metric | Metric | Sources |
|---|---|---|
| Total installs | 180,384; 7 days +118,320 | Google Play,11-06 |
| Daily new installs | Around 10-22 about 7K, 10-30 to 11-03 about 20K, falling back to about 11-04K from 7 | AppstoreSpy estimate |
| Rating | 4.16 stars, 192 ratings; no ratings in the US store | Google Play,11-06 |
| Charts | Best Productivity Top Free rank was #15 in Nigeria and #19 in the Philippines; 11-06 dropped to #36 / #44 | Google Play charts |
| Monetization | Contains ads; in-app purchases $19.99–$89.99 each (Philippines ₱1,400–6,350, Nigeria ₦28,500–128,000) | Google Play,11-06 |

The developer account is XFree Dev Team, and the support email uses the domain of Sunnyside Technology in Sydney, which also has a cleaner app on iOS. The same Play account also hosts an AI video editor, blood pressure and heart rate tracker, location sharing, 1 vs 1 video chat, a proxy browser and a video downloader: 8 apps in total, about 1M installs (AppBrain). Every category is covered, typical of one account hosting a string of apps.

### Where users come from: paid acquisition, plus a changed category

**Paid acquisition** . The privacy policy lists Adjust, a tool for measuring how many installs ads bring in; apps that don't run ads don't need it. Add the 1-in-1,000 rating rate, almost no installs in the US, and charting only in Nigeria and the Philippines (Appfigures also lists Venezuela and Myanmar), and the reasonable inference is paid app-install ads in low-cost markets. Where it was bought and how much can't be seen from outside: searching its name on TikTok returns 0 results, X has 0 posts over 90 days, and no media or forums discuss it.

One thing is easy to misread. Its install curve looks almost flat from 10-27 to 10-29, which seems like "ads paused for three days." In fact, over a thousand Play apps that were getting more than 5K installs a day flattened out at the same time (the median dropped from about 10K a day to a few dozen), which means Play's counting was delayed, not that it switched off its budget. So to prove it's buying volume, rely on the evidence above rather than this curve.

**Category** . Cleaner apps are almost always in Tools, where hundreds of similar apps compete. It was placed in Productivity. In the top 60 of Productivity Top Free in Nigeria and the Philippines, it sits between ChatGPT, Gemini, Office and PDF readers. With a few thousand to 20K installs a day it can rank #15–#44, and charting also brings extra store exposure. This costs nothing and is why it stands out among cleaner apps, but its installs are mostly bought.

### Where the money comes from

Mainly ads. The privacy policy lists a long set of partners: ad mediation through TopOn, TradPlus, AdMob and AppLovin, and bidding among a dozen-plus ad networks including Pangle, Mintegral, Moloco, Meta, Unity and Vungle. Cleaning, scanning and boosting each insert a full-screen ad, and push notifications pull people back in (the "annoying messages" complaint).

In-app purchases run $19.99 to $89.99 each, most likely for removing ads or unlocking high-speed VPN servers. At this price few people in Nigeria buy, and it has never charted in any grossing list.

The math is: how much ad money one install can generate, and whether it exceeds what the install cost to buy. Installs are cheap in Nigeria and the Philippines, and ad mediation sells each impression at the highest price, so users don't need to stick around. The one-star reviews about VPN disconnects suggest the VPN is just a hook for acquisition.

The TopOn, TradPlus, Pangle and Mintegral stack is the standard setup for Chinese going-global utility app teams. The website is a single line, "Hello Fast Cleaner VPN", plus a privacy policy and terms of service, hosted on Google Cloud Run. It's a shell page built to pass Play review.

### Who it's competing with

Nearly everyone.

| Competitors | Launched | Installs | How it compares |
|---|---|---|---|
| Antivirus - Cleaner + VPN(TarrySoft) | 2020-11 | 38.3M, +230k a week | The same three-in-one, charting in 26 stores |
| Cleaner Antivirus VPN Cleaner | 2023-04 | 43.1M, +110k a week | The same recipe |
| Hyper Cleaner / Smart Clean Pro(JTR Labs) | 2026-09 / 10 | 980K / 1.15M, weekly 810K / 670K | Pure cleaners launched at the same time get five to six times its volume |
| CleanMax, EasyClean, Clean Pro and others | 2026-06 to 09 | 700k–5.9M | New cleaner apps this year, an order of magnitude bigger |
| Junk Cleaner & Security, Haven Launcher, Daily Cleaner, Deep Cleaner & Security | 2026-07 to 09 | 75k–870k | Same Cloud Run shell site and same SDK under different accounts; Haven Launcher also charts in the Philippines Productivity list |
| Rapid Mesh VPN, Veyra VPN, Sonic VPN and others | 2026-10 | Weekly 400K–600K | Pure VPNs, also buying volume in emerging markets |

(Google Play,11-06)

The "siblings" in the second-to-last row make the point: their site addresses all follow the pattern "name-<numbers>.us-west1.run.app", their privacy policies match line for line, their developer accounts differ, and two companies are based in Beijing. Whether one operator runs them all can't be verified, but they use the same production line. Within that line, Fast Cleaner VPN is a mid-to-small package, and it's already declining: daily installs fell from about 20K back to about 7 thousand, and its chart rank halved within a week.

### If it were you

**The verdict** : you can learn two moves, but it's not worth copying. Cleaner-plus-VPN apps that buy volume in emerging markets to earn ad revenue are a mature business the going-global crowd has run for years. It does make money, but it's already saturated with teams that have budgets, accounts and ready-made SDK templates. A newcomer with the same bundle can't match their ad spend or release speed.

**Who it suits** : teams already building going-global utility apps who have ad mediation accounts, paid acquisition experience and the ability to ship a batch of apps at once. For them, "list it under a different category" is the only new idea here, and they can use it today.

**Who it doesn't suit** : indie developers who have never run app-install ads and can't work out ad revenue per install or acquisition cost; anyone who can't live with the risk of Play removing their apps. Cleaners, antivirus, scare-tactic notifications and VPNs are the categories Play polices most strictly, and if one account gets banned, every app under it goes with it.

**How to do it (if you only want the idea)** :

- Category arbitrage: before entering any saturated category, check the free charts of neighboring categories in small countries to see how many daily installs the #20 spot takes. In Nigeria's and the Philippines' Productivity charts, a few thousand to 20K installs a day reaches the top 50; in Tools, where cleaners cluster, the same volume would be much further down. Pick a category that can be justified under policy, and the same budget gets you extra store exposure.

- Monetization structure: in low-cost markets, ad mediation plus a high-priced in-app purchase tier is easier to recoup than subscriptions alone. This can be moved to non-cleaner categories (PDF, translation, wallpapers), where there is less crowding and much lower policy risk.

**How to acquire users** : paid acquisition is the only route. This category has no content, creators, or word of mouth, and you won't find it on TikTok or X. Test with a small budget in one or two low-CPI countries and check whether ad revenue per install covers install cost within two to three weeks. Only scale up once it does.

**When is the window** : anyone can copy the category trick, and Haven Launcher, released in the same batch, is already charting in Productivity. As more cleaner apps pile into Productivity's low-CPI charts, the bar for charting will climb back to Tools levels. At the current pace, the window is measured in months, not years (inference).

**What would mean you read it wrong** :

- If it's still at 10k+ daily installs a month from now, and no more cleaner apps have shown up in the top 50 of Productivity in Nigeria and the Philippines, the category trick is more durable than it looks, and teams with paid acquisition capability should test it seriously.

- On the flip side, if this account or the batch of sibling Cloud Run shell-page apps gets mass-removed from Play before year-end, the policy risk of this pipeline has run out. Study the monetization structure, but stay away from the category.

Where users come from

- Inferred **paid app-install ads (low-CPI emerging markets)** : integrates Adjust attribution; AppstoreSpy curve shows 10-26 +27k, then near zero for three days before recovering to about 20k a day, a typical budget switch; 180k installs with only 192 ratings; charted only in NG and PH (Appfigures also shows VE and MM), no US store ratings. googleads/metaads/tiktokads libraries show no tracking for it

- **Verified** **Store category exposure (Productivity rather than Tools)** : best rank in NG Productivity free chart #15, PH #19,10-30; entered the NG overall app chart at #164 (googleplay library chart_rank); most cleaner apps from the same batch sit in Tools.

- Inference **Push re-engagement + possibly prompted reviews** : negative review "your massages are disturbing me"; positive reviews are mostly one- or two-word 5-star ratings.

- Inference **Content / creators / media** : 0 TikTok search results, 90 X results in 0 days, no media coverage.

## Why Fast Cleaner VPN (com.fastcleaner.vpn) managed to chart

> Channel: Google Play | Developer account: XFree Dev Team | Launch: 2026-09-21 | Category: Productivity | Research day: 2026-11-06

### Bottom line

The product itself has nothing new: a grab bag of "cleaner + antivirus + VPN + system utilities", monetized through ads and high-priced in-app purchases ($19.99–$89.99). Its 180k installs were largely **paid acquisition** pushed in waves in low-CPI markets like Nigeria and the Philippines. It's visible on the charts partly because it **put a cleaner app in the Productivity category** , where it's far easier to climb the charts in these countries than in Tools. Behind it is a mature outbound cleaner-app pipeline (shell websites, the same monetization and attribution SDKs, developer accounts swapped in and out), not an indie developer who made a hit.

### 1. What it is

- Description: VPN (encrypted proxy, showing upload/download speed and server line) + virus scanning ("three checkpoints / deep scan with four checkpoints") + junk cleaning, duplicate photos, large files + app usage time stats, notification management + Wi-Fi security checks (ARP/DNS/SSL), speed test, data usage stats + battery, hardware info, chat app cache cleaning (Play store page, 2026-11-06).

- Monetization: the store lists "contains ads" and "contains in-app purchases", with IAPs at $19.99–$89.99 each (₱1,400–6,350 in the Philippines, ₦28,500–128,000 in Nigeria; google-play-scraper 2026-11-06).

- SDKs listed in the privacy policy (effective 2026-10-08): **Adjust** for attribution, Firebase + **Snowball** (snowballbi.com) for analytics, **TopOn and TradPlus** for ad mediation, plus AdMob, AppLovin, CloudX as ad sources, and Pangle, Mintegral, Moloco, Meta, Unity, Vungle, InMobi, Fyber, BidMachine, PubMatic (fast-cleaner-vpn-596263692557.us-west1.run.app/privacy-policy). The TopOn / TradPlus / Pangle / Mintegral / Snowball combination is a typical setup for Chinese teams running outbound tool apps; Adjust indicates they are running acquisition attribution.

- The website is just one line, "Hello Fast Cleaner VPN", plus a privacy policy and terms of service, hosted on Google Cloud Run (as above). It's a shell page built to pass Play review.

- Support email help@sunnysideau.com; the domain belongs to **SUNNYSIDE TECHNOLOGY PTY. LTD.** (Surry Hills, Sydney; the product on the site is the "Xfree Downloader" video downloader). Sunnyside also has a cleaner app on iOS, "CleanSlate: Clean Storage" (2025-09 listed, 953 rating in the US store; paywallscreens.com estimates about $70K/month, unverified). The developer name XFree Dev Team matches Xfree Downloader.

- The same Play account also holds: HypeVideoCut (AI video, 2026-3.53M installs, website credits BlueWei Tech Singapore), CareLog blood pressure and heart rate, Locaty location sharing, Bloop / Para You 1v1 video chat, Photo Cleaner: CleanMate, Unlimited Proxy Browser, Video Downloader (google-play-scraper developer list, 2026-11-06; AppBrain says the account has 8 apps, about 1M installs, active since 2025). The categories span AI video, dating, health, location, and cleaning: a classic "account matrix / multiple entities sharing one account" setup.

### 2. Growth data

| Date | Total installs | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 2026-10-21 | 5,566 | AppstoreSpy estimate (googleplay library, app_day_ext) |
| 2026-10-23 | 20,305 | Same as above, about 7.4k per day |
| 2026-10-25 | 35,149 | Same as above |
| 2026-10-26 | 61,981 | +27k in one day |
| 2026-10-29 | 62,064 | Only +83 over three days, nearly stalled |
| 2026-10-31 | 101,943 | +40k over two days |
| 2026-11-03 | 158,357 | +56k in three days |
| 2026-11-05 | 173,032 | +15k over two days |
| 2026-11-06 | 180,384 | +7.4 thousand |

(Starting from 10-29 per googleplay library's own tracking; +118k in the last 7 days.)

- Charts: appears only in the **Nigeria and Philippines Productivity free charts** among our 30 stores; best ranks NG #15, PH #19 (10-30 / 11-02); 10-30 once entered the NG overall app chart at #164; 11-06 fell back to NG #36, PH #44 (googleplay library chart_rank). Appfigures also shows it on the Productivity charts in Venezuela and Myanmar (from an appfigures.com search summary).

- Ratings: 192 reviews, 4.17 stars; 5-star 128–135 reviews (google-play-scraper, PH / NG stores, 2026-11-06). **180k installs with only 192 ratings (about 0.1%)** . Reviews are mostly two- or three-word praise like "good", "nice", "very good"; negative reviews include "VPN has issues", "keeps cutting out", "not performing", and "your massages [messages] are disturbing me" (push spam). The US store page has no ratings: almost nobody installs it in the US.

- **Start-stop curve** : 10-26 gained +27k in one day, then 10-27 to 10-29 days of nearly zero, then +20k per day again. Organic and store-search traffic doesn't stall and surge like this; it's the signature of a paid-budget on/off switch (inference; no direct ad-library evidence, see below).

### 3. Competitors

| Competitors | Platform | Launched | Scale | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Antivirus - Cleaner + VPN(TarrySoft) | Android | 2020-11 | 38.3M installs, +230k per week, charting in the AR store's Tools top grossing | Same three-in-one "cleaner + antivirus + VPN" formula, an established app charting in Tools across 26 stores; Fast Cleaner VPN is just a new package of the same recipe |
| Cleaner - Clean Phone & VPN(TarrySoft) | Android | 2019-12 | 29.1M installs, +120k this week | Same as above |
| Cleaner Antivirus VPN Cleaner | Android | 2023-04 | 43.1M installs, +110k this week | Same recipe |
| Hyper Cleaner / Smart Clean Pro(JTR Labs) | Android | 2026-10 / 2026-09 | 977k / 1.15M installs, +810k / +670k per week | Pure cleaner, Tools category, charting in 15–20 stores, growing even faster over the same period |
| CleanMax, EasyClean, Clean Pro - AI Cleaner and 2026 other new cleaner apps | Android | 2026-06 to 09 | 700k–5.9M installs, +390k–710k per week | Pure cleaner, one order of magnitude bigger |
| Junk Cleaner & Security (Bersamakitta), Haven Launcher & Phone Cleaner (IMPACTSOLTER), Daily Cleaner (Beijing Fengqi Yuntu), Deep Cleaner & Security (Beijing Yuexi Qingfeng), Easy Cleaner & Secure (Superstring Tools) | Android | 2026-07 to 09 | 75k–870k installs | **Same template** : their websites are all Cloud Run shell pages named "<name>-<project number>.us-west1.run.app", and their privacy policies all list Adjust + Snowball + TopOn / TradPlus. Haven Launcher also charts at #46 in PH Productivity. These can be seen as its batch siblings, not copies of it. |
| Standalone new VPN packages (Rapid Mesh VPN, Veyra VPN, Sonic VPN, etc.) | Android | 2026-10 | +400k–600k per week each | Pure VPN, Tools category, likewise targeting emerging markets |
| Android's built-in Files by Google cleaning, Play Protect, Google One VPN (discontinued) | Big-company features | — | System level | Free and ad-free; cleaner apps sell fear-based alerts rather than a real feature gap |

(All install figures come from the googleplay library app_profile, 2026-11-06.) Conclusion: **this category is extremely crowded** . It doesn't come close to the top few dozen in scale, and TarrySoft has been doing "cleaner + VPN in one" for 2019 years.

### 4. Where users come from

- **Paid acquisition (high likelihood, not directly verified)** : the Adjust attribution SDK, the start-stop install curve, a ratings rate of 0.1%, charting only in low-CPI markets like NG / PH / VE / MM, and no US ratings all point to app install ads run in low-cost markets. The googleads, metaads, and tiktokads libraries show nothing for it (it isn't on the tracked list, and a lack of results doesn't mean it isn't advertising; Meta's library returned 0 results when searched by package name).

- **Productivity category charting drives store exposure** : most cleaner apps of this kind crowd into Tools, but this one sits in Productivity. On the NG / PH Productivity Top Free chart, it's among the top 60, next to ChatGPT, Gemini, Office and PDF readers; at 7k–20k daily installs it lands at #15–#44. Paid acquisition pushes it onto the category chart, and the category chart brings in a bit of organic traffic. This is an inference.

- **Content / social / media** : TikTok search for "fast cleaner vpn" returns 0 results (TikHub); on X, 90 posts in 0 days (x-radar). The web only has auto-generated listing pages from AppBrain, APKPure, Similarweb and Appfigures. No creators, press or Reddit threads.

- **Reviews** : Most are short, generic 5-star praise ("good", "nice", "very good", "it is reliable"). Prompted reviews (rating pop-ups) are not ruled out; unverified.

### 5. Where the money comes from

- The main revenue is likely **ads** : full-screen ads between every step of cleaning, scanning and boosting. TopOn / TradPlus aggregate a dozen-plus ad networks in a bidding auction. Push notifications pull users back to see more ads (the "notification spam" complaints in the reviews point to this).

- The secondary revenue is **high-priced in-app purchases** ($19.99–$89.99, most likely weekly / annual subscriptions to remove ads and unlock VPN premium servers). Conversion is very low in emerging markets. It hasn't charted on any grossing list.

- The math for this model is "ad LTV per install > CPI in low-cost markets"; retention isn't the point. The VPN "disconnects" and "doesn't work" complaints suggest the VPN is just a hook for installs and retention.

### 6. Differentiation

- On features: cleaning, antivirus, VPN, app usage stats, Wi-Fi checks and battery info are all packed into one app. "Lots of features" makes it easy to produce fear-based creatives and notifications. But older products like TarrySoft already did this, so it isn't new.

- On distribution: **choosing the Productivity category** is the real difference from most sibling clean-up apps (Tools), and it makes the app easier to spot on small-country category charts. That's why it surfaced in our data, but it isn't what drove growth. Paid acquisition did.

- Bottom line: there's no product differentiation. It ran because of **an assembly-line of paid acquisition + ad monetization** , not because of anything it does differently.

### 7. Visibility and copycats

- Visibility: **few people know about it** . No public revenue, no press coverage, 0 posts on X and TikTok, and it only appears in app data sites. But the business itself (clean-up apps monetized with ads in emerging markets) is a well-known, mature playbook in indie-dev circles, and it's extremely crowded.

- Copycats: none specifically copying it. Sibling apps on the same template ran at the same time (see the competitor table). It is itself one of the copycats.

### 8. Takeaways

- List in a **less competitive category** of a crowded niche (Tools → Productivity), and use a modest paid acquisition budget to climb the category chart and gain extra store exposure.

- A dual track of "ads + high-priced IAP", paired with TopOn / TradPlus aggregation, lets installs in low-cost markets still pay back. Paid acquisition is switched on and off by day, with budget controlled by ROI.

- One developer account hosts multiple category apps, the landing site runs on Cloud Run, and privacy policies come from a template. That lowers the cost of each new launch, so when one package is taken down, the next one replaces it. Note that Google Play policy risk is very high for clean-up / VPN / fear-based ad apps.

### 9. Uncertain

- The acquisition channels and spend weren't directly verified (our ad library doesn't track it, and we didn't check the original Google Ads Transparency Center).

- Whether the XFree Dev Team account, Sunnyside Technology (Sydney), BlueWei Tech (Singapore), and the batch of developers behind the Cloud Run template (Beijing Fengqi Yuntu, Beijing Yuexi Qingfeng, IMPACTSOLTER, Bersamakitta, Superstring Tools) are the same operator is unverified. We can only confirm they share the same website template and SDK stack.

- There is no data on actual in-app purchase conversion, ad ARPU or retention. The Similarweb page was 403.

- Whether the positive reviews were incentivized or fake is unverified.
