One company wrote an FAQ saying "it's not us charging you": Vixel and a Turkish app factory
What it is A phone app that turns a photo into a short AI video in seconds using a trending template. Weekly subscription plus paid coin packs.
Why it took off Developer Fenix Mobile started running hundreds of Meta ads in late August, with a single line of copy, "this video is AI-made," and the app's generated videos as the creative. Then "paid trial, buy coins after subscribing" squeezed enough money out of each user, and it bought its way onto the charts during the photo-to-video wave.
CHow you could follow it Don't compete in the crowded AI video template space. Copy the playbook instead: when a new AI trend has just started and white-label competition is still thin, use the category keyword as the title, pair a fixed hook line with the generated result, run Meta ads, drive traffic to a web page first, then split it to both app stores.

Vixel - AI Video Generator is an app that takes one photo, applies a trending template, and outputs a few seconds of AI video. On iPhone it once charted #32 on the US Photo & Video Top Grossing chart. It landed on Google Play at the end of August and has only reached 15K installs so far. The product is indistinguishable from hundreds of rivals, and most reviews are about it charging people. It got where it is through a playbook ready-made by an Istanbul app factory: Meta video ads for paid acquisition, a paid trial, and coin top-ups on top of subscriptions. Below, I lay out how that playbook works and why you should learn the playbook but skip the category.
"The scam isn't us"
vixelai.com is a small company making AI short films and interactive dramas. Its help page has a rare FAQ entry:
"I was charged by the App Store or Google Play. Is that Vixel?" "If the receipt reads 'AI Video Generator - Vixel' from FENIX MOBILE YAZILIM A.S., then no. That mobile app and its website vixel-ai.org are a different product, unrelated to us. Please cancel the subscription in your Apple ID or Google Play, and direct refund requests to Apple or Google. We bill monthly through Stripe, with no weekly subscriptions."
A company writing an FAQ specifically to distance itself from others means people being charged and reaching the wrong door have become a real nuisance. Those people are using Fenix Mobile's Vixel. Here's what its App Store reviews look like:
"I signed up for the free trial and requested cancellation before the subscription started, and they still charged me $117 for an annual plan I never bought." (US, 10-16,1 stars)
"A 7-day trial, usable only once. You get one chance, that's it." (US, 10-18,1 stars)
Which one first used the Vixel name hasn't been established. Fenix's iOS version went live as 2026-01-23, while vixelai.com's iPhone version is still on TestFlight. So the claim that Fenix "piggybacked on the name" lacks evidence; it looks more like a name collision that caught a small company in the crossfire. The name also hasn't brought Fenix much traffic: its volume is bought.
How big is it really?
The two platforms differ sharply, and nearly all the money is on iOS:
| iOS (US) | Google Play | |
|---|---|---|
| Launched | 2026-01-23 | 2026-08-31 |
| Scale | 3,740 ratings, average 3.54 (11-06) | 15,756 installs, 241 ratings (11-06) |
| Last 7 days | Ratings +45, 3–9 per day | Installs +1,348, some days +559, others 0 |
| Charts | Photo & Video Top Grossing #32–#72 (best at #10-31 and #11-01, peak #32); similar category Top Free #89–#207 | Only the US Photo Top Grossing chart, #161–#179 |
On iOS, Top Grossing has also ranged #55–#126 in Canada, Spain and Italy, and #82–#154 in the UK.
Revenue isn't public, and third-party estimates are off by two orders of magnitude. Airbridge 10-19 published a teardown putting monthly revenue at $558k and monthly downloads at 888k; AppGazers says October iOS revenue was under $5,000. Neither adds up: an app with 880k downloads a month wouldn't pick up only 3–9 extra ratings a day in the US, and it couldn't sit at #32–72 on the Top Grossing chart while bringing in only a few thousand dollars a month. A more plausible range is tens of thousands to $200–300K a month (inferred).
Play installs run a few hundred a day and then stop, which looks like small-batch testing (inference). It hasn't scaled yet.
Where the volume comes from: one caption, endless AI videos
Per Airbridge's Meta Ad Library data, Vixel ran zero ads before Aug 24. By Sep 11 it had 522 live ads, and in October it still had 280. Total found: 635 ads, est. spend about $46K, reach 3.2M people. 68% targeted the US, 85% targeted men, and ages 25–34 made up more than half.
The easiest part is the creative. Of the top 13 ads, 12 used the same line: "This video was made by AI." Only the video changes, and the video is whatever the app generates, which costs almost nothing, so you can make as many as you like. Hold the hook fixed, pair it with hundreds of different videos, and let Meta pick which one makes people stop scrolling. The ad is the product demo.
Clicking through lands you on the web page vixel-ai.org first, which then routes you to the App Store or Google Play. The page is blunt: "Generation may require coins or a subscription, and a subscription does not necessarily cover every generation."
Other channels are small. The official TikTok account @vixelaiapp has 380 followers and 83 videos (TikHub, 11-06). Every two or three days it jumps on a trending template: APT., zombie filters, Halloween. Individual videos get a few hundred to 35K views, so it works more like a testing ground for ad creative. The iOS title is "AI Video Generator - Vixel," putting the category keyword first to catch some organic search. Nobody in the media or on X has discussed it.
How the money comes in: a paid trial, then coins on top of the subscription
Pricing has three layers: a $4.99 "trial," which then converts to $6.99–$14.99 a week (there's also a $14.99 monthly and a $69.99 annual plan), plus coins deducted for every video generated on top of the subscription, with coin packs at $4.99–$39.99.
The reviews spell out the mechanism clearly. Of the 152 App Store reviews collected, 109 are 1-star (mostly US, ranging from 10-09 to 10-30), and they boil down to three complaints:
- "The trial charges money: 'I was charged $4.99 for a trial, which should be free.'"
- You still have to buy coins after subscribing: "Each video costs at least $5, plus the weekly fee."
- The face doesn't match: "I uploaded a clear frontal photo, and the output was a completely different person."
Users are angry, but as long as each paying user brings in more than it costs to acquire them, the math works. The cost is that ratings and brand won't hold up for long. This was never meant to be a long-lived product.
Who's behind it
The developer, FENIX MOBILE YAZILIM A.S., is based in Istanbul and has a dozen or so "AI + some scenario" apps on iOS: Decor AI (home design, 4,301 US iOS ratings, 100K Play installs), Harmonia (AI music), Evoly (AI images), Brand.io (logos), and more. They all look the same: a category keyword as the title, a weekly-subscription paywall, and paid acquisition. Vixel takes this proven template and applies it to the hottest "photo-to-video" play of 2026, proving it on iOS before copying it to Play.
Who it's competing with
Nearly everyone, and most of them bigger:
| Product | Scale (11-06) | How Vixel differs |
|---|---|---|
| PixVerse | Play 79.6M installs, +520k in 7 days | Builds its own models; the template play is its own invention |
| AI Video(HubX) | 15.7M Play installs; US Photo Top Grossing #14; 29.9K iOS ratings | Same Turkish white-label shop and playbook, two years earlier, an order of magnitude bigger |
| Nexus(DQL TechLab) | Play 12.4M installs, 7 days +1.85M | Vietnamese white-label, same paid acquisition, aims for Top Free |
| Vidix | Play 30.2M installs | Same as above |
| VideoGPT | 56K iOS ratings, 4.76 stars | Grows on word of mouth, doesn't rely on aggressive pricing |
| Kling, Grok Imagine, Adobe Firefly | Grok has 1.58M iOS ratings | Own models, cheaper or free, better output quality |
There are also AI Studio, Pixaflow, Gora and a batch of smaller Turkish peers. In this category Vixel sits in the middle-to-low tier, and it is itself a latecomer following the trend.
If it were you
C: Learn its paid acquisition and pricing structure, but don't build an AI video template app. The category has originals, big-company free offerings, and a few tens-of-millions-scale white-label apps, and its playbook has already been publicly dissected by Airbridge, so anyone who buys ads can see it.
Who it suits: small studios that already have one or two subscription apps paying back through Meta paid acquisition, with ready-made paywalls and ad templates. What you should copy from Fenix is the "one template, reused over and over" approach: home design → music → logo → video. Whenever an AI play catches fire on TikTok, ship an app with a category keyword as its title within two or three weeks to catch the search and curiosity traffic.
Who it doesn't suit: indie developers who haven't run ads and want to build an AI video product on product word-of-mouth or organic traffic. The category's organic volume has been taken by PixVerse and the big companies, and white-label apps here run entirely on paid acquisition. Also, if you want a long-term brand, don't copy its pricing: a 3.5-point rating and a full screen of "scam" reviews are not a business you can sustain.
How to do it: find the next AI play that a big company or original vendor has just made popular and that the store has few white-label apps for, rather than crowding into photo-to-video. Wrapping a third-party model API is enough. Put your effort into three places: a category keyword in the title; a fixed hook line in the ad, with only the generated output changing; and routing traffic to your own website before the two stores, which makes attribution and testing easier. Weekly subscriptions plus coins can work, but "charged on trial" brings a flood of refunds and bad reviews, so keep the payback period very short.
How to get users: Meta video ads, with the app's own output as the creative. Find the few clips in the US that stop the scroll first, then roll out to Canada, the UK and Western Europe, where users pay well. Use the official TikTok account to ride trending templates as a creative testing ground, but don't expect it to bring volume.
When it's too early or too late: the window for this photo-to-video wave has already passed. The window for the next category is usually one to two months after a new play takes off.
What would prove me wrong: ① Vixel's Play version scales to hundreds of thousands of installs in the next month or two and charts outside the US, which would mean the category is still wide open to white-label clones and late entrants can still get in; ② it holds a top-50 spot on the US iOS Photo & Video Top Grossing chart over time, which would mean this hard-paywall model pays back better than it looks; ③ the reverse: if its ad spend stops by year-end and it falls out of the Top Grossing chart past 200, then even this factory has decided the line no longer pays.

Why Vixel - AI Video Generator (Fenix Mobile) is making money
Data card: play_com.fenixmobile.vixel | research day 2026-11-06
One line
A white-label AI app factory in Istanbul, FENIX MOBILE YAZILIM A.S., built an app where you upload one photo → apply a trending template → get a short video. 2026-01-23 launched on iOS first, then from late August relied on Meta video ads for paid acquisition. After iOS took off, 8-31 came to Android, and the Play version we recalled is that release. The product itself is nearly indistinguishable from hundreds of similar apps. It works because of a mature playbook: paid acquisition + a double charge of weekly subscription plus credit packs + template-based trend-chasing, not product differentiation.
1. How to read the data
Play side (the recalled listing): googleplay library, 2026-10-29 to 11-06
- Installs 14,408 → up 1,348 in 15,756,7 days, roughly 0–560 per day, very uneven, looks like small-batch spending. Only 241 ratings, and no reviews were captured in the library.
- Charted in only 1 storefront: US PHOTOGRAPHY Top Grossing, rank 161–179. The Play version only launched 2026-08-31 ago, so for now it's a side note to iOS.
- The same developer also has AI Home Design - Decor on Play, 100,683 installs, up 11,100 in 7 days, #10 on Mexico's HOUSE_AND_HOME free chart.
iOS side (where the money is): appstore library + iTunes lookup
- id 6756965785, launched 2026-01-23, 3,740 US ratings, average 3.54 stars. US ratings up 45 in 7 days, about +3 to +9 per day (10-28 is 3,690,11-06 is 3,740).
- US Photo & Video Top Grossing rank 32–72 (best at 10-31 and 11-01, both 32), US same-category free chart 89–207. Top Grossing in Canada, Spain and Italy at 55–126, UK 82–154, and it once hit #159 on Pakistan's overall Top Grossing.
- Captured 152 reviews in the library: 1 stars 109, 5 stars 32. Negative reviews are almost all about "after the $4.99 trial it converts to $14.99/week, and generating a video also deducts coins", "you can only use it once", "the face doesn't look like me".
Third-party estimates, which differ widely; I don't consider either reliable
- Airbridge (2026-10-19, link): monthly revenue $558K, monthly downloads 888K. Meta ads: 292 active, 635 total found, est. total spend $46K, reach 3.2M people, 68% targeting the US, 85% targeting men, ages 25–34 make up 53%. 12/13 of the top creatives use the same line "This video was made by AI", and the landing is a web page. No Apple Search Ads.
- AppGazers (link): 10-05 to 11-04, iOS revenue < $5K, downloads 13.8K–73K (80% range).
- My read: an app with 888K monthly downloads would add only 3–9 US ratings a day, which doesn't match. Airbridge's download figure is most likely overstated by an order of magnitude. But ranking #32–72 on US Photo & Video Top Grossing also means it's not the < $5K AppGazers suggests. A more reasonable range is monthly revenue in the tens of thousands to two or three hundred thousand dollars, with monthly downloads in the tens of thousands to about a hundred thousand. This range is inferred and unverified.
2. Competitors
There are many apps doing the same thing (photo/text → AI short video, trending templates), and most are one to two orders of magnitude bigger than Vixel:
| Product | Platform | Launched | Scale (from library data) | How Vixel differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PixVerse | Android / iOS / web | 2024-09 | Play 79.6M installs, 7 days +520k, #2 on Germany's Photography Top Grossing | Own model; the template format is what it popularized, Vixel is following it |
| Nexus - AI Video Generator(DQL TechLab) | Android | 2026-03 | 12.4M installs, +1.85M in 7 days | Also white-label and paid-acquisition driven, but 100 times the volume, competing on the free chart |
| Vidix(Supercool Labs) | Android | 2025-11 | 30.2M installs | Same as above |
| AI Video - AI Video Generator(HubX) | iOS/Android | 2024-03 | 15.7M Play installs; US Photo Top Grossing #14; 29.9K iOS ratings | Also a Turkish white-label shop with the same playbook, two years ahead of Vixel and a full order of magnitude bigger |
| VideoGPT(ElevenThirteen) | iOS | 2024-01 | 56k ratings, 7 days +466 | Text-to-video, word-of-mouth route, rating 4.76 |
| Kling AI / Grok Imagine / Adobe Firefly | big tech | 2025 | Kling iOS 33k ratings; Grok 1.58M ratings | Own models, cheaper or free, better output quality |
| AI Video Generator - AI Studio / Pixaflow / Gora | iOS | 2025–2026 | A few hundred to 5 thousand ratings | A Turkish white-label peer with the same model, smaller scale |
| Vixel AI(vixelai.com,Vixel Ai, Inc.) | Web / iOS TestFlight | 2026 | Unknown | A namesake that makes an "AI short film / interactive drama" creation workspace, billed monthly via Stripe, not the same kind of product |
Bottom line: this is an overcrowded red ocean, and Vixel is a mid-to-low-tier player in it.
3. Growth tactics (evidence)
- Meta video ad buying (confirmed): Airbridge, based on the Meta ad library, shows active ads going from 8-24 to 10-17 between 0 and 280, peaking at 9-11 522 ads, all AI-generated videos with the caption "This video was made by AI". Our own metaads library doesn't index this advertiser (the list didn't cover it), and googleads / tiktokads show nothing either. Not finding it doesn't mean it wasn't run.
- Owned landing page vixel-ai.org (confirmed): ads click through to a web page first, then route to the App Store / Google Play. This lets the web page handle attribution and A/B tests, and push traffic to both platforms at once.
- TikTok official account riding trends with templates (confirmed, but small volume): @vixelaiapp, 380 followers, 83 posts, 63k total likes. Every 2–3 days it rides a trending template (APT., zombie filter, Twilight cat, Halloween), with single videos reaching a few hundred to 35k views. These read more like a testing ground for ad creatives than a major source of installs.
- Store keywords (possible, unverified): the iOS title is "AI Video Generator - Vixel", putting the category keyword right up front. Comparable US free-chart rank 89–207 suggests some organic search traffic.
- The developer's standard playbook: the same company's Decor AI (4,301 US iOS ratings, 100k installs on Play), Evoly, Harmonia, Brand.io and Ink.io are all "AI + a vertical use case" white-label subscription apps. Vixel takes that proven ad-buying and paywall template and moves it to the hottest current category, "photo to video".
- No media coverage, X discussion (x-radar: 0 posts in 60 days), or creator partnerships found. On Reddit, there are only users complaining about the charges.
4. Why it took off
- Timing: the 2026 photo-to-video template trend (driven by PixVerse and Grok Imagine) is hot on TikTok and Reels. Ordinary users who see a friend's AI video want to make their own, many people search "AI video generator", and a white-label app only needs to plug in a third-party model API to catch that demand.
- The ad creative is the product demo: the ad itself is an AI-generated video, with just "this was made by AI" to spark curiosity. Creatives cost almost nothing to produce, so they can be tested endlessly.
- Aggressive monetization: $4.99 trial → $6.99–$14.99/week, plus $4.99–$39.99 credit packs, and on top of the subscription each generation deducts coins, so a single user can pay a lot. The cost is bad reviews and refunds (US 3.54 stars, 1-star reviews make up 72% of the sample), but as long as the payback period is short enough, paid acquisition still pencils out.
- Reusing the company's existing machinery: paywall, ad buying, landing pages and multi-language setup are all from the Decor AI playbook and can be dropped into a new category. Going to Android follows the same logic: once iOS ad buying works, copy it to Play.
5. Differentiation
Essentially none. The features (text-to-video, image-to-video, trending templates) match PixVerse, HubX and hundreds of other apps, and the output quality isn't better. Reviews often complain that the face doesn't look like the user or the video is incomplete. What's actually different is only operational: one fixed line across all Meta creatives, routing to a web landing page first, and monetization harsher than peers (weekly subscription plus coin deductions). None of that is product differentiation, but it is why it works.
On "riding the name": the recall reason says it borrowed the brand of the same-named startup Vixel AI. vixelai.com's help page does explicitly state "AI Video Generator - Vixel and vixel-ai.org from FENIX MOBILE YAZILIM A.S. are not affiliated with us; please seek refunds from Apple/Google." But Fenix's iOS app launched 2026-01-23, vixelai.com's "About" page only says 2026, and its iOS version is still on TestFlight. Which one used the name first is unverified. It could also just be a coincidental name clash, and vixelai.com may simply have been dragged into Fenix's refund complaints and felt the need to distance itself. Either way, the traffic this name brings Fenix is negligible: Vixel AI is very small, and Fenix's traffic comes from ad buying and category keywords.
6. How many people have seen it
- Revenue is not public, and the developer has never disclosed it. But Airbridge published a full breakdown on 2026-10-19 ($558K/month, searchable publicly), so people in the ad-buying and ASO circles can see it.
- Neither media nor major X accounts have written about it.
- Copycats: the model was itself copied. Turkish white-label peers (HubX, Generative AI Teknoloji, HITDEV's Pixaflow, Gora, etc.) and a large batch on Play such as Nexus and Vidix have been doing it for a while, and at larger scale. So there is no one "copying it"; it is itself a copy.
7. What others can learn
- A fixed hook line in the ad copy, with only the generated video swapped out, lets the ad platform pick out the creatives that stop the scroll, the cheapest way to test creatives.
- Ads go to a web landing page first, then route to the two stores, collecting attribution data along the way.
- One company builds a paywall-plus-ad-buying template and keeps applying it to new "AI + X" trend categories (home renovation → tattoos → logos → music → video).
- Cautionary lesson: charging for trials and stacking coin deductions on top brings a flood of 1-star reviews and refunds, and drags innocent namesake companies into it. Brands and ratings don't hold up long; this only suits a "fast payback, then move on to the next one" approach.
8. Uncertain
- Actual revenue and downloads: Airbridge and AppGazers differ by two orders of magnitude, so I can only infer a rough range from chart rank and rating growth.
- Who used the Vixel name first.
- Whether the Android side will scale up. For now it's only 1,348 installs added in 7 days, and it hasn't taken off.
- Fenix Mobile's funding and team size were not checked.
