# 'You slim down, it slims down too': a Turkish dev added a pet to Cal AI, live for 5 weeks, not breaking out yet

**What it is** A Turkish-language AI photo calorie-tracking app with a Turkish dish library and fridge-based recipes, plus a growth pet, Fitto, that eats, drinks, and slims down alongside you.

**Why it took off** It hasn't really taken off yet: in Turkey's health & fitness free chart, a few hundred installs a day was enough to reach the top 60. A small spike in early November pushed it to #51, then it fell back. Meta ads only started in Nov 6.

**D** **How you could follow** Don't copy Fittolog itself; take its assumptions. Find a small-language market not yet saturated by AI meal-logging apps, use local dishes plus a growth pet as the selling point and ad hook, spend a small budget to chase the local category free chart, and only add money after checking retention and subscriptions.

D grade: the product itself hasn't broken out and the pet hook isn't validated. The same template already has five or six clones in Turkey, and the leader Tabak AI has been established for a year. What you can learn is the pet hook and the cheap charts of small markets. Few people know about it yet

Data (updated daily) · first launch 2026-09-28 · 11-07 installs 2,617

Android · Total installs worldwide

Data 2026-10-29 → 2026-11-07 (10 days, 10 observations). Google's detail page only refreshes install counts every other day, so a flat day doesn't mean nobody installed.

Fittolog is a Turkish-language AI photo calorie-tracking app built by solo Turkish developer Burak Afacan. It hit Google Play in Sep 28, and by Nov 6 it had 2,617 cumulative installs worldwide, with zero ratings on Play. It once climbed to #51 on Turkey's health & fitness free chart, which looks like traction but mostly reflects how low that chart's bar is. It's worth a look because it put a growth pet on top of a heavily copied template, and it only started spending on ads on Nov 6. Below: what it is, what the 'surge' really was, who it's competing with, and whether you should follow.

### Four ads launched Nov 6

On Nov 6, 2026, Fittolog launched four ad sets on Meta, nine ads in total. By that afternoon each ad had run for only about two hours (Meta ad library, 11-06). Before this, it had never run a single ad on Meta.

One ad opened with:

> Sen kilo verdikçe o da zayıflıyor! (As you lose weight, it loses weight too!)

The copy continues: 'Those days of dieting thinking "if only I weren't alone" are over! Did you know a virtual baby is waiting for you inside a calorie-tracking app?' One hashtag is #sanalbebek (virtual baby). Another says 'You eat, it eats; you drink water, it drinks water,' and a third says 'Complete tasks, earn Coins, help Fitto grow.' Four ad sets, and three of them bet on the same thing: the little dragon named Fitto.

Photo calorie counting is the least valuable part of this ad. It sells companionship.

### What it is

The feature list is nearly identical to Cal AI and Tabak AI (App Store Turkey storefront page, 11-06):

- Four ways to log meals: photo, speak a sentence, type, or scan a barcode, with portion editing before saving;

- A Turkish home-cooking library: pick the dish on your table and the portion;

- 'Ne Yesem?' (What should I eat tonight?): recipes based on what's in your fridge. The official site's example is 'I have chicken and yogurt at home, what should I make tonight?' Answer: 'Chicken yogurt bowl, about 420 kcal, high protein';

- Fitto AI nutrition assistant, chat by typing or voice;

- Water and weight tracking;

- Mascot Fitto: eats and drinks with you, its look changes with your progress, and you earn Coins by completing tasks to dress it up;

- FitOrtam community with channel-based chat.

On the iOS Turkey store, pricing is ₺229/month (about $5.4), ₺449 for three months, ₺1,189.99/year, plus a separate 'Fittolog Influencer Premium' tier at ₺489. On Play, in-app purchases are listed at $4.69–23.99. That's a high-priced tier for Turkey, but it sits in the same bracket as Yazio and Cal AI.

There's only one person behind it. On Play the developer is listed as AFC LABS; the official site's terms say 'AFC Labs / Burak Afacan'; the iOS provider is his name directly, and he has only this one app. The iOS privacy label says it uses 'purchases, identifiers, usage data' for cross-app tracking, the setup you'd need for attribution when buying user acquisition.

### What the 'surge' really was

Start with the numbers (Google Play installs; before Oct 29 they are third-party estimates; the chart is Turkey's health & fitness free chart):

| Date | Total installs | Rank |
|---|---|---|
| 10-16 | About 170 | – |
| 10-22 | About 670 | – |
| 10-31 | 1,318 | 88 |
| 11-03 | About 2,430 | **51 (best)** |
| 11-05 | 2,617 | 60 |
| 11-06 | 2,617 | 69 |

Net gain of 1,636 installs in the last 7 days, but six in ten came in the three days from Nov 1 to 3, about 370 a day, then it fell back, dropping from #51 to #69. Play still has 0 ratings; iOS has 12 ratings at 4.7 stars, with no gain in a week, and its best Turkey-store rank was #146.

Why does three or four hundred installs a day reach the top 60? On the same day, Tabak AI, ranked #49, had 200k cumulative installs and gained only 3,032 over the past week, about 400-plus a day. On this category's free chart, the top 100 bar is a few hundred installs a day. So Fittolog's chart placement doesn't mean it broke out, only that the chart is cheap to enter.

### Where the traffic comes from

**Meta ads: only started in Nov 6.** So the two waves in October 20–22 and November 1–3 didn't come from Meta ads.

**Self-made short videos: barely any effect.** The Instagram account @fittolog.tr has been posting Reels since Oct 16, and the platform labeled them 'AI-generated content'. On TikTok it has 5 videos with 42 to 480 views; its YouTube channel has 3 subscribers.

**Creators: prepared, but no one seen.** The ₺489 'Influencer Premium' tier looks like it's meant for creator-exclusive codes (inferred), but no creator promotion of it turned up. Searching Turkish creator partnership posts instead turns up similar products: CalNote's discount code ASLI20, FitWow's GOZDE, and Dodo Nutriva.

**Store search: the name claims keywords.** The second half of the title, 'Diyet & Kalori Takip' (diet and calorie tracking), matches the terms Turkish users search most; the first line of the Play description is 'Fittolog is now available in Turkey!'. How much this contributes can't be seen from outside.

The small spikes over those three days look like small-budget test campaigns (such as Google app promotion ads), but there's no evidence; source unverified.

### Who it's competing with

This niche is crowded in Turkey: international giants localized long ago, and in the same year a batch of solo Turkish developers launched clones (Google Play cumulative installs and iOS Turkey ratings, 11-06):

| Product | Launched | Scale | How Fittolog differs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yazio | 2014 | Play 58.8M, Turkey health & fitness top grossing #1 | Veteran, has AI photo logging, fully localized |
| fatsecret | Around 2010 | Play 63.2M | Free database model |
| Foodvisor | 2018 | Play 12.8M, Turkey top grossing #3 | Started with photo recognition |
| Cal AI / Calo / Welmi | 2024–25 | 4.57M / 2.19M / 1.82M | Global paid-acquisition AI meal logger, Welmi top grossing #11 in Turkey |
| Diyetkolik | 2012 | Play 1.03M | Turkish local veteran, sells diet plans and dietitians |
| Tabak AI | 2025-08 | Play 200k, iOS 2,740 rating, Turkey top grossing #30 | Solo Turkish developer, same playbook a year earlier, already established |
| EatBetter | 2024-09 | Play 199k, Turkey top grossing #12 | AI food diary, higher pricing |
| CalNote / FitWow | 2025-12 / 2026-04 | iOS 264 / 20 ratings | Turkish developer, relies on creator discount codes |
| Dodo Nutriva | 2026-10-10 | iOS 49 ratings | Launched two weeks after Fittolog, markets 'built by nutritionists', and already has four times its rating count |
| FİT KAL | 2026-09-18 | Play 1,958,7-day +757 | Same-period launch, similar scale |
| Kalori Defteri AI | 2026-09-30 | Play 911 | Same-period launches |

Photo calorie counting, Turkish recipe libraries, AI assistants: local rivals have all of these, and so do the big players. The only thing Fittolog has that nobody else does is the pet.

### Is the pet the answer?

This is the one thing about this product worth writing down: it takes the emotional hook of Finch, "raise a little creature that keeps you going," and puts it inside a calorie tracker, a tool people very easily abandon halfway. It also makes for good ads: three of the four creative sets are about the pet. And it gives people a reason to open the app every day.

But up to Nov 6, there is no evidence the pet has driven any growth: organic sharing is near zero, there are no influencer posts, and there isn't a single review on Play. The real test is the few ads launched on Nov 6, and the results won't be clear for another two or three weeks.

### If it were you

**Verdict:** Worth knowing about, but don't copy it. Fittolog itself hasn't taken off yet. Its template, "Cal AI + local recipe library + local language," is already being run by five or six people in Turkey, and the leader, Tabak AI, got there a year earlier and is already on the Top Grossing chart. Only two things are worth taking away: the pet-raising hook, and the fact that charts in small countries are cheap to get on.

**Who it's for:** A team of one or two that already runs a language-specific tool app and buys Meta or Google ads, and wants to test a new category cheaply.

**Who it's not for:** Anyone aiming at the Turkish market (it's already crowded, and local rivals are fighting over influencer codes); anyone hoping to win with "AI photo calorie counting" alone (everyone has that feature now); anyone who won't spend on paid acquisition (apps like this get no organic spread, and Fittolog's own short videos have only a few hundred views).

**How to do it:** Don't copy Fittolog; copy the hypothesis it's testing. Pick a language that hasn't been filled with localized AI food-logging apps yet (first search Play in that language for "calories + AI" and count how many clones launched this year). Use an off-the-shelf image recognition model for the core feature. A local recipe library is a must. Make the pet or progression system the first screen and the star of the ads. Price subscriptions at the local high tier.

**How to acquire users:** Put the local-language terms for "diet / calorie tracking" in the store title. For creative, shoot the few seconds of the pet eating, drinking, and slimming along with the user. Use a small budget to push into the top 60 of the local health & fitness free chart (Fittolog shows a few hundred installs a day is enough), then decide whether to spend more based on retention and subscription rates. The influencer-exclusive in-app purchase tier can be set up the same way, but you have to find the influencers first.

**When to do it before others:** New apps of this type ship every month. A language going from "empty" to "five or six clones" took only a year in Turkey. If you test it, you should know within three months whether subscriptions pay back.

**What would tell you you've got it wrong:** ① Fittolog's installs stay around a thousand a day for two or three weeks after the Nov 6 ads launch and it shows up on the Turkish Top Grossing chart. That would mean the pet hook really does lift conversion, and then copying it into another language is worth serious consideration. ② Reviews mentioning Fitto start appearing on Play, and users are posting about their pets. That would mean organic sharing exists, stronger than this analysis assumes. ③ The opposite: ads stop, the chart position drops below #100, and there are no updates for a month. That would mean this template can't sustain even a solo developer in a crowded small market, so don't repeat it in the next country.

### One line

A Turkish-language AI photo food logger for calories, built by Turkish indie developer Burak Afacan (AFC Labs). It's a local Turkish version of the Cal AI playbook. It adds a pet mascot, Fitto, that eats, drinks, and slims alongside the user, plus "what's in my fridge, what should I eat" (Ne Yesem) and a community (FitOrtam). **It hasn't actually taken off yet.** It has been live for 5 weeks, has 2,617 total installs worldwide, 0 ratings on Play, and only 12 ratings on iOS. The "surge" on the data card is due to how low the bar is for the Turkish health & fitness free chart: three or four hundred installs a day gets you to rank fifty or sixty. In the same market, at least five or six similar Turkish indie apps launched around the same time.

### 1. Who they are

- Developer: listed on Play as "AFC LABS," and the terms of use say "AFC Labs / Burak Afacan," with a tax ID and address; the iOS provider is listed as "BURAK AFACAN" [fittolog.com/kullanim-sartlari; apps.apple.com/tr/app/id6811712776]. In the library, the developer has only this one app [googleplay library developer].

- Launch dates: first on Play 2026-09-28, first on iOS 2026-10-08 [googleplay / appstore libraries]. Has only charted in Turkey (n_countries_now = 1).

- Features ([App Store description](https://apps.apple.com/tr/app/6811712776), [fittolog.com](https://fittolog.com)):
    - Four ways to log food: photo, voice, typing, barcode scanning;
    - "Türk mutfağı" Turkish home-cooking recipe and portion library;
    - Ne Yesem: suggests meals based on what's in your fridge;
    - Fitto AI nutrition assistant, via text or voice;
    - Water and weight tracking;
    - **Mascot Fitto** : eats and drinks alongside the user, changes appearance as progress builds, and users earn Coins by completing tasks to dress it up;
    - FitOrtam community, with channel chat.

- Pricing (iOS Turkish storefront): monthly ₺229, 3 months ₺449, yearly ₺1,189.99 (plus an "annual special" tier at the same price), and an **"Fittolog Influencer Premium" at ₺489** . Play in-app purchases range from $4.69–$23.99 [App Store page; googleplay library app_snap].

- The iOS privacy labels say "used for cross-app tracking: purchases, identifiers, usage data," meaning attribution or ad SDKs are installed, groundwork for paid acquisition [App Store page].

### 2. Growth data

Cumulative global installs on Play (googleplay library; the figures before 10-29 are AppstoreSpy estimates, don't trust single-day numbers):

| Date | Cumulative | Daily installs (averaged) | Turkish health & fitness free chart |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10-16 | 170 | ~47 | – |
| 10-22 | 672 | ~145 (one wave of 10-20~22) | – |
| 10-25 | 981 | ~70 | – |
| 10-31 | 1,318 | ~56 | #88 |
| 11-02 | 2,059 | ~370 | #60 |
| 11-03 | 2,433 | ~374 | **#51 (best)** |
| 11-05 | 2,617 | 184 | #60 |
| 11-06 | 2,617 | 0 | #69 |

- 7 days net gain of 1,636, but the peak came only on the three days from 11-01 to 11-03, then it fell back, dropping from #51 to #69.

- Play rating count has stayed empty (0 ratings); iOS has 12 ratings at 4.7 stars, 7 days of rating growth of 0, and its best iOS Turkish-storefront position was #146 [appstore library].

- Benchmark: Tabak AI, #49 on the Turkish health & fitness free chart, has 200k cumulative installs, but took 7 days to add 3,032 (about 430/day), similar in scale to Fittolog's peak days. So reaching the top 100 on this chart needs only a few hundred installs a day [googleplay library chart_rank 2026-11-06].

### 3. Where users come from

| Channel | Evidence | Confirmed? |
|---|---|---|
| Paid Meta ads (Instagram / Facebook) | Searching "fittolog" in the Meta Ad Library (all countries) turns up 4 live creatives, each with 2 versions, and **all of them started running only on 2026-11-06** (1–2 hours in at the time of capture). The copy centers on "Fitto helps you lose weight / photo calorie counting." There isn't a single "paused" ad. So neither of the two growth waves before 11-06 came from Meta ads. Our metaads library doesn't track this Page. | Confirmed (covers only from 11-06 on) |
| Official Instagram @fittolog.tr original videos | Since 10-16, Reels and image posts have gone out on Instagram, labeled "AI content" (AI-generated material). The official Facebook page shows "1 followers · 30 talking about this". The YouTube channel has 3 subscribers and 2 videos, with one at 716–837 views [public pages on Instagram / Facebook / YouTube] | Confirmed, but very small |
| Official TikTok account @fittolog.tr | TikHub returns 5 results, with 42–480 views [TikHub] | Confirmed, almost no effect |
| Creator partnerships | An "Influencer Premium" in-app purchase is set up (₺489), likely a creator-exclusive tier or creator code. But no specific creator promoting Fittolog turned up. The Turkish creator partnership posts that did come up promote competitors instead: CalNote's ASLI20 code, FitWow's GOZDE code, Dodo Nutriva. | Unconfirmed |
| Google App Campaigns (UAC) | The googleads library isn't tracking it. The shape of the 10-20~22 and 11-01~03 spikes looks like small-budget test spending, but there's no evidence. | Unconfirmed |
| Store search | The name stuffs in "Diyet & Kalori Takip" (diet & calorie tracking), a high-frequency search term in Turkish. The Play description opens with "Fittolog şimdi Türkiye'de!" (Fittolog is now in Turkey!) | Partly (it's ASO setup, and how much it contributes is unknown) |
| X / media | x-radar finds nothing; only auto-aggregator pages like CNET Download and Softonic | None |

### 4. Competitors

The Turkish market for this category is crowded. Big international players have already localized, and around the same time a batch of Turkish indie-developer apps in the same space appeared:

| Product | Platform | Launched | Scale | How it differs from Fittolog |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yazio: AI Kalori Hesaplama | iOS / Android | 2014 | Play 58.8M; Turkey Health & Fitness Top Grossing #1 | Long-established, already has AI photo logging, fully localized; no pets or community |
| Foodvisor | iOS / Android | 2018 | Play 12.8M; Turkey Top Grossing #3 | A French product that started with photo recognition |
| fatsecret Kalori Sayacı | iOS / Android | Around 2010 | Play 63.2M | Free database-style app with a Turkish-language interface |
| Diyetkolik | iOS / Android / web | 2012 | Play 1.03M | A long-running Turkish homegrown app selling dietitian plans / meal lists |
| Welmi / Calo / Cal AI | iOS / Android | 2024–2025 | 1.82M / 2.19M / 4.57M | A global AI meal-logging player running paid acquisition; Welmi is Top Grossing #11 in Turkey |
| Tabak AI | iOS / Android | 2025-08 | Play 200k, iOS rating 2,740; Turkey Top Grossing #30 | A Turkish indie developer who ran the same playbook a year earlier and has already settled in |
| EatBetter | Android | 2024-09 | Play 199k; Turkey Top Grossing #12 | AI food diary with higher pricing (up to $399) |
| CalNote | iOS | 2025-12 | iOS 264 ratings | A Turkish developer relying on creator discount codes |
| FitWow | iOS | 2026-04 | iOS 20 ratings | A Turkish developer promoting through creator codes |
| Dodo Nutriva | iOS | 2026-10-10 | iOS 49 ratings | Marketed as "developed by a Turkish dietitian" with creator partnerships; already has more ratings than Fittolog |
| FİT KAL | Android | 2026-09-18 | Play 1,958,7-day +757 | Same-period Turkish newcomer, comparable scale to Fittolog |
| Kalori Defteri AI | Android | 2026-09-30 | Play 911 | Same-period Turkish newcomer |

(Scale comes from the global cumulative installs in the googleplay library 2026-11-06; iOS rating counts come from the iTunes Turkey storefront search API)

### 5. Why it (did not) break out

- **The growth signal itself is weak** : cumulative 2,617, Play rating 0, iOS ratings 12. Six in ten of the 7 days of net new installs came from a spike between 11-01 and 11-03, and it fell back afterward. The low bar on Turkey's free category chart makes it look like it's "climbing".

- **11-06 is only now starting to spend real money** : all Meta ads launched on 11-06, and an SDK with cross-app tracking was added at the same time, showing the developer has just entered paid acquisition. Whether it will work depends on the next two weeks of data.

- **Higher unit price, subscription-based** : ₺229/month (about $5.4) is high-end for Turkey, but in the same tier as Yazio and Cal AI. Breakeven relies entirely on subscriptions; no chart ranking yet.

### 6. Differentiation

- The core features (photo calorie estimation, voice or text logging, barcode scanning, AI assistant) are identical to Cal AI, Tabak AI, and others, with no differentiation.

- The real difference is **the Fitto pet** : it eats when the user eats, drinks when the user drinks, and slims down when the user does. Users earn Coins through tasks to dress it up. This is Finch-style emotional companionship and gamification. The ad copy leans fully on this ("Sen kilo verdikçe o da zayıflıyor", meaning "as you lose weight, it loses weight too"). There's also the Ne Yesem fridge recipe feature and a community.

- A library of Turkish home-style dishes is the "localization" difference. Local rivals like Tabak AI and Dodo Nutriva already have it, and big players have localized too.

- Bottom line: pet-raising is a clear, ad-friendly hook, but **there's no evidence yet that it drives growth** . Organic reach is nearly zero (TikTok views in the hundreds, no creator posts). The real test is the ads launching on 11-06.

### 7. Visibility and copycats

- Revenue is not public. No media coverage or X discussion, only auto-aggregator sites. It's "not many people know about it yet".

- Copycats: nobody is copying it. But around its launch, several new Turkish-language AI meal-logging apps (FİT KAL, Kalori Defteri AI, Dodo Nutriva, FitWow) used the same template, showing the template has been widely replicated in Turkey.

### 8. Takeaways

- The solo playbook of "Cal AI template plus a local cuisine" in smaller language markets: Turkish ASO keywords in the title, a local recipe library, high-priced subscriptions in local currency, and a creator-exclusive in-app purchase tier.

- Category charts in small countries have a low bar; a few hundred installs a day can reach the top 60, which suits low-budget product testing. But a chart rank doesn't mean it's working.

- Adding a pet-raising emotional hook to a dull tool like calorie tracking makes for good ad creative.

### 9. Uncertain

- Where the 10-20~22 and 11-01~03 spikes came from (Google UAC, creators, or Instagram promo posts) is unverified.

- How the "Influencer Premium" is actually used is unverified.

- How conversion and subscription revenue perform after 11-06 launches is unknown.

- Retention and payment: Play has no review sample, so it can't be judged.
