Run it again under a new name: one ad desktop got 80M installs in 1.29 days
What it is A free Android desktop launcher that replaces the phone's home screen, with themes, wallpapers and widgets, and makes money from full-screen ads.
Why it took off The developer took an already-proven earlier app (7.15M installs), changed the name and copy, and relaunched it, directly reusing the paid-acquisition creatives and ad-monetization parameters, then bought installs in cheap markets across South Asia, the Middle East and Africa. The desktop gets opened every day, ad impressions accrue daily, and that's how the acquisition cost gets earned back.
CHow you can follow it Copy the playbook, not the category: if you already have a proven ad-monetized app, relaunch it under a new skin, reusing creatives and parameters; without paid-acquisition ability, there's no organic traffic in this category, so don't enter.

An Indonesian developer called BIG ONE took a desktop launcher that reached 7.15M installs by August of this year (January), changed its name and copy, relaunched it, and got 1.29M installs in 80 days. The product has nothing new; it's the same paid acquisition and ad monetization run again. What's worth watching is the playbook, while the desktop launcher category itself is already saturated.
Before installing, I watched three ads
On Oct 6, 2026, a Nigerian user named Emecheta Celestine Chijioke left a review of ClarityOS Launcher on Google Play: "Just installing and setting it up, I watched 3 ads. Fine, I'm patient, I wanted to see what it actually was. Turns out it's just a regular launcher, like all the others." By Nov 6, 78 people had marked the review as helpful, making it the top review on the store page.
Ranked second was M. Saiful Islam Tito, Oct 11: "The ad showed a theme, but after installing I couldn't find that theme, and it's also advertising other apps inside." Third was Phil Kingston, Sep 27: "Looks promising, but during setup the ads kept coming one after another with no way to skip, and I gave up. Maybe I'll try it again if they let you pay for the premium version."
These three reviews pretty much sum up the app: users come in because of ads, they watch several more ads just to install it, and the money comes from those ads.
What it is
An Android desktop launcher which, once installed and set as default, replaces the phone's original home screen. The store page title is "ClarityOS Launcher — Clear by Design," with the tagline "Make your Android home screen calm and organized": app drawer and search, folders, themes, wallpapers, clock and calendar widgets. Free, no in-app purchases, labeled as containing ads.
The developer BIG ONE's contact email is bigoneindonesia8, which suggests an Indonesian team (inferred). The same developer also has FocusOS Launcher, listed in 2026 Jan 21 and reaching 7.15M installs by Nov 6. The two apps have the same privacy policy format and identical store disclaimer wording, and ClarityOS's package name even starts with com.focus. FocusOS pitched "clean, modern," and ClarityOS switched to "calm, clear." In short, the two are the same product in different skins.
How far it got
| Date | Total installs | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 08-18 | Launched | Google Play |
| 09-15 | About 108k | Third-party estimate |
| 10-01 | About 353k | Third-party estimate |
| 10-05 | About 559k | Third-party estimate: up about 170k in two days |
| 10-27 | About 1.01M | Third-party estimate |
| 11-03 | 1.23M | Google Play public figure: up 162k in a single update |
| 11-06 | 1.29M | Google Play public figure |
About 272k new installs in the past 7 days, roughly a fifth of the total, with no slowdown at all. The curve doesn't rise smoothly; it jumps large amounts at intervals, with jumps of over a hundred thousand each in Oct 5 and Nov 3. This shape looks more like ad budgets released in batches than word-of-mouth (inferred).
Rating: 4.6,18,217 ratings, with 3,700+ added in 8 days. By Nov 6 it was on the Personalization free chart in 28 countries and regions, best ranked #14 in South Africa, #23 in the UAE, #33 in Singapore, with Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden at ranks 36–37; the US only reached #114. Version 1.2.0 hasn't been updated since Oct 10.
Where users come from: paid acquisition, and cheap paid acquisition at that
They come from ads. Besides the review above about "the theme in the ad can't be found after installing," there's an English review from Oct 28 saying "It's nothing like what's shown in the ads." Users are attracted by ad creatives, and the creatives don't match the product. Which ad networks it runs on and the cost per install can't be found externally; most likely it's Google app campaigns and various in-app ad networks, buying ad slots in other apps to pull users while selling ad slots inside its own app (inferred, unverified).
Users are in markets where acquisition is cheap. The reviews include many five-star one-liners in Bengali, Persian, Azerbaijani and Urdu: "গুড অ্যাপে" (good app), "عالی" (excellent), "onek valo" (very good). Most real users are likely in South Asia, the Middle East and Africa (inferred). The chart rankings look good in South Africa, the UAE, the Netherlands and Sweden, where the bar to chart is low; the US can't break through.
Almost no organic traffic. Searching its name on TikTok, YouTube and X turns up nothing relevant, and there's no media coverage; online there are only auto-generated pages from APK download sites. The website clarityoslauncher.com shows 404, with only a privacy policy. The name also doesn't piggyback on high-traffic search terms like "iOS 27" or "Launcher OS"; people who find it by name mostly came from seeing the ads.
The ratings may be incentivized. In the rating distribution, 2-star ratings have consistently been 0, and most five-star reviews are one or two words, which isn't normal and suggests incentivized ratings (unverified). The 4.6 score is what holds up the store page's conversion rate.
Where the money comes from: ad slots you see every day
A launcher's defining trait: once it's set as the default home screen, the user sees it every time they press Home. For an ad-funded app, that's exposure every day. The one-star reviews list its ad slots: 3 ads stacked in the setup flow, "every button has an ad behind it," an interstitial before opening other apps, and ads on the home screen too.
It doesn't need users to stick around long. The interstitials in the setup flow plus the home-screen ads in the first few days can pay back the cost of acquiring the user, and that's enough to keep the business cycling. One Azerbaijani review says "I can't even find the program to delete it, it's like a virus." That kind of "hard to uninstall" experience also, effectively, keeps the app on the phone longer.
It has no in-app purchases, has never charted on a top grossing list, and has never disclosed revenue. How much it actually makes can't be calculated from outside.
Who it's competing with
| Product | Scale (Google Play, 11-06) | How it differs |
|---|---|---|
| FocusOS Launcher (same developer) | 7.15M installs, about +7k over the last 146 days | The previous app on the same template |
| Launcher OS™(Apps Genz) | 104M installs, +430k in 7 days | The veteran iOS-style launcher leader, live for 2020 years, an order of magnitude bigger |
| Launcher OS 27 / TOS Launcher | 17.7M installs | Name carries an iOS version number, catching store search traffic |
| OS 27 Launcher : Golden Gate | 1.12M installs, +94k in 7 days | Launched in June 2026, riding the iOS 27 release |
| Launcher OS Theme(Amobear) | 1.03M installs | Listed on the day of WWDC 2026 in June |
| Gamnest's "mini-game + home screen" series | 7.16M / 4.12M installs | A reskin matrix that also relies on paid acquisition to push personalization charts |
| Niagara / Smart Launcher / Microsoft Launcher | 18M / 55.3M / 70.1M installs | A launcher that's a real product, earning through word of mouth, subscriptions and in-app purchases, not interstitial ads |
| Phones' built-in home screens (Pixel, Samsung, Transsion HiOS/XOS, etc.) | HiOS/XOS each 900M+ | Preinstalled out of the box; ClarityOS has to convince users to swap it out |
Counting only personalization apps published after June 2026, with "launcher" in the name and already past 100k installs, there are 13 of them, totaling 6.71M installs, and ClarityOS is the largest. This category is packed with reskins. It's neither the first nor the only one.
Why it works
Not because of the product. Its features match dozens of competitors. The copy leans toward "calm, minimal distraction," but the actual experience is a screen full of ads, which is the opposite.
It emerged because the developer already had a proven playbook: FocusOS validated the creatives, bids, ad placement, and how many interstitials users would tolerate. ClarityOS just ran that same playbook again. We don't know how long the first app took to reach 0 to 1M, but the second one took about 70 days.
If it were you
The bottom line: Copy its playbook, not its category. The path of an iOS-style home screen plus heavy ads is already saturated, with hundreds of clones and the leaders past 100M installs. ClarityOS is itself the second reskin.
Who it's for: Small teams that already have an ad-monetized app earning money, who buy traffic on Google and in-app ad networks, and who can calculate how much a user costs to acquire and how many days it takes to earn that back. Treating "prove one, reskin it, run it again" as a standard move is the most worth copying.
Who it's not for: Indie developers with no paid acquisition experience who rely on organic traffic. This category has no organic traffic. Without paid acquisition capability, launch means 0.
How to do it:
- If you already have a proven app, follow its approach: change the name, copy, and positioning words, reuse creatives and ad parameters, and launch a second app. The second one will scale much faster.
- Pick a format that gets opened every day: home screen, lock screen, keyboard, charging animation. Ad impressions add up daily.
- Go after the part it does poorly: Phil Kingston's line "If I could pay for the premium version, maybe I'd try it again" reflects a real demand. A home screen with restrained ads, a paid ad-free option, and genuinely "calm" design could be tested in the same South Asian and Middle Eastern markets. But know that this side has established players like Niagara and Smart Launcher, and without heavy ads, paid acquisition struggles to pay back.
How to acquire users: Use in-app ad networks and Google app ads, starting in cheap markets like South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, and use low-bar storefronts like South Africa, the UAE, and Northern Europe to showcase chart positions.
Timing: There's no clear window. This isn't a passing trend; it's a long-running paid acquisition business. If you want to ride a system version number (like "OS 27"), aim for the period around Apple's June keynote and the September new-OS release each year.
Signs you've misread it: If Google Play starts pulling launchers in bulk for "ads that don't match the product, ads forced into the setup flow, or hard-to-uninstall" issues, or if ClarityOS and FocusOS growth suddenly stalls without updates, the window for this playbook is closing. Also, mismatched ads, difficult uninstalls, and prompting for ratings are all grounds for removal. Don't copy them.

Bottom line
It's not a new category; it's the second reskin of a proven ad-monetized launcher template. FocusOS Launcher from the same developer, 2026-01, already hit 7.15M installs. BIG ONE ran the same playbook again: an iOS-style home screen with theme wallpapers and heavy ads, renamed with a new package name (com.focus.clarity…) and new copy (from "Focus" to "Calm / Clear"), and used paid acquisition to push it to 80M installs in 1.29 days. Once a launcher is set as the default home screen, every day brings a chance to show ads, and that's where the money comes back.

It could be a data-definition issue or tied to rating prompts. Unverified.
- Charts: 11-06 ranks on the personalization free chart in 28 storefronts, best at South Africa #14, UAE #23, Singapore #33, Germany/Netherlands/Sweden #36–37; the US storefront only reaches #114. No in-app purchases (offers_iap = False), marked as containing ads (ad_supported = True), and never charted on a top grossing list.

Personalization apps launched since 2026-06, with "launcher" in the name and over 100k installs: 13 in total, 6.71M installs combined (googleplay library). ClarityOS is the biggest of them. This niche has been packed with reskins for a long time; it's neither the first nor the only one.
3. Where users come from
- Paid acquisition (high likelihood, indirect evidence, not directly found in ad libraries):
- Among the most useful store reviews, M. Saiful Islam Tito (2026-10-11,27 people found it helpful): "The ad showed a theme, but after installing I couldn't find it." Our library has 10-28 review: "There's nothing like they have advertised on the ads." Users came in from ad creatives that don't match the product.
- The install curve shows jumps like 10-05 (+170k over two days) and 11-03 (+160k).
- Our Meta / Google / TikTok ad libraries have not tracked BIG ONE / ClarityOS (those libraries only track products on their watchlist, so no hit doesn't mean no spend). Spend most likely runs through Google UAC / AdMob and in-app ad networks such as Meta Audience Network, closing a loop with its own ad monetization. Unverified.
- User profile: The review sample comes from the South African English store, but many of the five-star short reviews come from users with Bengali, Persian, Azerbaijani and Urdu names ("গুড অ্যাপে", "عالی", "onek valo"). That suggests most real users are in South Asia, the Middle East and Africa, where paid acquisition is cheap. The European small-store charts (Netherlands, Sweden) have low entry barriers, which is why its rankings look respectable.
- TikTok / YouTube: Searching TikHub for "ClarityOS Launcher" only returns an unrelated AI to-do app of the same name (@clarityaios). There are many similar "iOS 27 on Android" matrix accounts (e.g. @launcher.ios26.fo, 1,198 videos, same copy posted over and over), but we can't tie them to BIG ONE. Sister app FocusOS has a Hindi YouTube review video (@mrsethindian, 12k views), so the volume is small.
- SEO / media / X: Only APK mirror sites (Uptodown, Softonic, APKPure, CNET Download, AppBrain) with auto-generated pages. On x-radar, searches for "ClarityOS Launcher" and "FocusOS Launcher" each returned 60 posts in the last 0 days. The root of the official site clarityoslauncher.com is 404 (S3 empty bucket, only hosting the privacy policy).
- Store search: The Play links Jina returned carry utm_term=clarityos+launcher, so people are searching by name. But the name itself carries no high-traffic keyword (unlike "Launcher OS / iOS 27", which rides on search terms), so branded searches are more likely people who saw the ads searching back.
4. Why people stay (or how the money comes back)
- A launcher is something that gets opened every day once set as the default home screen, so ad impression frequency is naturally high. The monetization points named in the bad reviews: during setup you're shown 3 ads in a row (Emecheta, 77 people found it helpful), "every button leads to 5 minutes of ads", "an ad plays before opening other apps", "ads on the home screen."
- It doesn't need long retention: if interstitials in the setup flow plus home screen ads over the first few days cover the acquisition cost, it's a positive loop. The complaints that it "can't be uninstalled, can't find the entry" (an Azerbaijani review: "I can't find the program to delete, like a virus") also objectively extend time on device.
- Lots of five-star short reviews and a 4.6 rating support conversion. Among the ratings, 2-star ones are 0, and the five-star ones are mostly one or two words, so prompting for ratings is likely. Unverified.
5. Differentiation
- The product itself has no recognizable differentiation: its features (search, folders, themes, clock and calendar widgets) are the same as dozens of rivals, and the store disclaimer suggests it mimics a particular system's look, just like FocusOS (whose disclaimer explicitly says "not affiliated with Apple Inc., iOS, iPhone").
- The only "difference" is the positioning copy. FocusOS talks "clean/modern", ClarityOS talks "calm, organized, clear by design", leaning on the emotional words of "digital minimalism / less distraction". But the actual experience (heavy ads) is the opposite of that positioning.
- It took off not because of differentiation, but because the developer already had a validated model of paid acquisition plus ad monetization (FocusOS 7.15M). They copied the product once and ran the same campaigns again.
6. How visible it is
- Revenue has never been disclosed. No media coverage, no X discussion, only APK sites. On this point, it counts as "not many people know about it yet."
- But the "iOS-style launcher + ads" niche it sits in is already crowded (hundreds of rivals, the top ones past 100M installs), so "nobody knows it" doesn't mean there's an open slot.
7. What others can learn
- Reskinning a proven template: same codebase, new name, bundle ID and copy, relaunched. Reuse the ad creatives and monetization settings, so the first app's playbook turns into faster traction for the second (how long FocusOS took to go from 0 to 1M is unknown; ClarityOS did it in 70 days to 1M).
- Choosing a "daily-use entry point" format for ad monetization: launchers, lock screens, keyboards and charging animations are things set as system defaults, so ad impressions accumulate by the day.
- Running volume in cheap markets and using small-store charts as the storefront: real users are in South Asia / the Middle East / Africa, while the rankings look better in low-barrier stores like the Netherlands, Sweden and South Africa.
- What not to copy: ad creatives that don't match the product, hard-to-uninstall apps, rating prompts. These carry removal risk on Google Play.
8. Still unclear
- Which ad networks it spends on, and cost per install and eCPM: not tracked by our ad libraries. Unverified.
- Whether there are a third or fourth clone (same template, different developer accounts): our library only shows two apps under BIG ONE. The other apps under the com.focus.* package prefix (FocusFlight, etc.) belong to different developer IDs, and it's unclear whether they're the same operation.
- A 2-star rating held at 0, with lots of five-star reviews that are one or two words: whether ratings are being prompted or farmed is unverified.
- Long-term retention: reviews say many people uninstall right after installing. How much of the 1.29M installs are still in use is unknown.
