FrostBinge - Drama Reels · VIET NHAT GROUP CONSTRUCTION

# FrostBinge: a short-drama app under a Vietnamese "construction company" that sat quiet for a month, then grew to 560k installs over five weeks

**What it is** A free vertical short-drama app that earns only from ads. It's one of dozens of drama packs a Vietnamese team mass-publishes from the same template, with the developer name registered to a construction company.

**Why it took off** The team uploads packs first, then splits paid acquisition budgets across batches, buying installs on Meta and others with clips of popular dramas plus "watch the rest free." Hong Kong and Singapore's entertainment category charts have low bars, so a dozen-odd thousand installs a week is enough to chart.

**D** **How you could follow it** Don't follow this app. Teams that know paid acquisition can borrow its rhythm: publish several packs, test with small spend, and allocate budget by ad payback. But switch to a category with compliant content, no misleading creatives, and no fake reviews.

Grade D: it has no product differentiation. It runs on mass-registered developer accounts, a mature buying team, and unclear sourcing of content. Dozens of shells on the same template already exist alongside legitimate big platforms, and Play could clean them up at any time. Learn the playbook, but don't copy it. Few people know about it yet

FrostBinge - Drama Reels went live on Google Play in Aug 29, and by Oct 2 had only about 4,600 installs. Over the next five weeks it grew to 560k, added 6k in the week of Nov 139, and ranked #58 on the Hong Kong Entertainment Top Free chart. It has 2.2 stars, no in-app purchases, and earns only from ads. The developer is VIET NHAT GROUP CONSTRUCTION, the name of a Vietnamese construction company. It isn't one team's proud product. It's one account in a team that mass-uploads packs, and these past weeks it got the budget. Below: how the playbook works and whether you should follow it.

### A 45-person-upvoted one-star review

On Oct 10, a user named Ellei Rahmanii left this on the store page:

> Don't waste your time! It's all ads, and you can't watch anything. You close one ad and another pops up. What kind of scam is this?

45 people marked it helpful, the most-liked review on the app. Second place, from Oct 14 by Samantha Tañada: "All ads, and I watched them anyway, but they never take you to the show you wanted to watch." (41 found it helpful)

"Takes you to the show you wanted to watch" is the key line. Traffic for this kind of app basically works like this: post a clip of a popular drama's climax on Facebook or Instagram with "watch the full episode free"; the user taps in, installs, and the first thing they see is ads. The show from the ad is often not in the app at all.

### What it is

The store page reads like any short-drama app: "hidden heiress, cold CEO, fake marriage, second chance," episodes of a few minutes, multi-language subtitles, "start watching free episodes." The page says "Contains ads" with no in-app purchases. Fine print says "a few premium episodes may require unlocking," which in practice means unlocking by watching ads. The website is a template site on netlify that calls itself a "free, ad-supported independent app, unaffiliated with any other short-drama service." The version stopped at 1.0.2 in Sep 22 and was never updated again.

The developer contact email is a personal gmail. The same company name is registered as three developer accounts on Play, with slightly different spellings, each holding one app:

| Account name | App | Install (Google Play, 11-06) |
|---|---|---|
| VIET NHAT GROUP CONSTRUCTION | FrostBinge - Drama Reels | 561k |
| VIET NHAT GROUP CONSTRUCTION JOINT STOCK COMPANY | RioReel: Short Drama & Reels (listed Jul 29) | 864k |
| VIET NHAT GROUP CONSTRUCTION STOCK COMPANY | Celeb Prank Call Idol | 341k |

One account per app, so one ban doesn't take the other two down. Whether this "construction company" actually rented out or sold the accounts, or whether its name was simply borrowed, can't be checked from outside.

### Why it had no traffic for a month after launch

Because it was uploaded first and the budget came later.

FrostBinge's website images sit in a public asset bucket under the path `apptest-v31-frostbinge`. The numbering leads to its siblings: DramaGo is v22, LumaReel is v28, MystReel is v29, TidalDrama is v30, WaveDrama is v40. They all share the same website template and the same tagline, "Short dramas, made to binge," and many went live the same day (Aug 29). Counting short-drama apps on Play that launched after July and use netlify websites, there are 51, totaling about 22.4M installs (Google Play, 11-06).

With this many packs, the team can't fund every one at once. FrostBinge's install curve makes this clear (AppstoreSpy estimates; daily data from late October onward):

- Oct 2: cumulative about 4,600

- October 13–15: 1.5–25k per day

- Oct 21: about 73k in a single day

- Oct 27: 422k cumulative

- Nov 2: about 47k new in two days

- November 3–6: 1.2–15k per day, with 0 in between

Several days in between were close to 0 (Oct 6 +290, Oct 11 +20, Oct 16 +33). Word of mouth doesn't produce this shape. It's budget switched on for a stretch and then off.

### Where the traffic came from

We found no FrostBinge ads in the Meta ad library. It may have run through an untracked page, or through Google app ads. But RioReel, under the same "construction company," is searchable: its page "RioReel: Short Drama" has only 139 likes, and from Oct 17 it ran 68 ads, 66 still active. All are videos, served on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and Audience Network, and tapping goes straight to Play. The copy comes in three languages:

- English: "WATCH FOR FREE! Download now and follow every twist in the story."

- Spanish: "¡DESCARGA Y SIGUE VIENDO tus episodios favoritos!"

- Indonesian: "Gratis! Lanjut nonton!" (Free! Keep watching!)

The same operator is very likely buying paid acquisition for FrostBinge the same way (inference). Side evidence is in the ratings: 560k installs produce only 280 ratings, roughly one rating per 2,000 installs, which is the ratio you see with bought traffic. The star distribution is odd too: 176 1-star, 73 5-star, only 14 0,4-star against 2-star, and the 5-star share may come from prompts or fake ratings (unverified).

### Why it can sit on the Hong Kong chart

FrostBinge has never charted on the overall or Top Grossing charts, only on the Entertainment category's Top Free chart. Its best rank is #47 in Hong Kong, #74 in Singapore, #95 in Spain, and it's past #130 in the UAE, Australia, Canada, Taiwan, and South Africa.

Play users in Hong Kong and Singapore are few, so a dozen-odd thousand global installs a week is enough to make the top 60. On the Nov 6 Hong Kong Entertainment Top Free chart's top 200, 33 shells on the same template appeared, and the best of them, AuraReel, ranked #16. FrostBinge ranked #58, sandwiched between its sibling DramaGo (#59) and ReelSaga (#66). Above them sit legitimate short-drama platforms like Hongguo, FreeReels, DramaBox, and ReelShort. Charting brings some store exposure and makes the app look like it's growing.

Also, almost nobody online is talking about it: 0 posts on X, and a TikTok search for "FrostBinge" returns only ASMR of people eating ice. There's no press coverage, just auto-generated pages on sites like AppBrain and Similarweb.

### Where the money comes from

Ads only: interstitials, rewarded videos, and watch-an-ad-to-unlock episodes. The math is simple. Spend on Meta to buy an install, and if the ads that user sees before uninstalling earn more than that spend, raise the budget. Packs that don't pay back get stopped, and the team moves on to the next ID. It has no original content, and the sourcing is most likely white-label, aggregated, or reposted (unverified).

In the matrix it's mid-tier. The same week, AuraReel grew 550k, LumaReel 286k, FrostBinge 139k, and MystReel 66k (Google Play, 11-06). How much it actually earns can't be seen: installation costs and ad rates aren't public.

### Who it's competing with

| Competitors | Scale (Google Play, 11-06) | Compared with FrostBinge |
|---|---|---|
| ReelShort / DramaBox | About 307M installs each | Original licensed series, pay-per-episode and subscriptions |
| FreeReels / DramaWave | 246M / 152M | Also free with ads, but with a real catalog and brands |
| Hongguo short drama overseas edition | 2.45M, #1 on Hong Kong Entertainment chart | ByteDance-backed, content and traffic built in |
| Same-template siblings (AuraReel, DramaGo, LumaReel, ReelSaga, etc.) | 51 apps combined, about 22.4M | Barely any difference: only the name, icon, shell company and budget change |
| Short-drama shells from other teams (Halo Reels, ShortFly, Drama World Pro, etc.) | Hundreds of thousands to a few million | Same playbook, some with Pro / Max bundles |

It has no differentiation. Change the name and nothing else changes.

### If it were you

**Verdict:** Don't copy this app. FrostBinge has nothing product-wise worth copying. It grew because one paid-acquisition team shuffled budget across dozens of identical apps, and that lane is already crowded with same-template siblings and other teams' shells, with big platforms that have licensed libraries sitting on top.

**Who it's for:** Paid-acquisition teams that already run Meta or Google install ads and can work out how much ad revenue one user brings in, and who want to study the method of "seed lots of apps, then split budget by payback."

**Who it's not for:** Indie devs with no ad budget or experience; anyone unwilling to touch shady content sources, or who would gamble their developer account on a ban.

**How to do it:** Copy the rhythm, not the category. Find a niche where you have compliant content or features, put two or three apps up and let them sit; run small test buys in cheap regions with one video creative, one line of copy and a few languages, and measure ad returns over 7 days; scale the apps that pay back and kill the ones that don't. Don't copy the misleading creatives or fake reviews. The more apps you run, the faster you die when something goes wrong.

**How it acquires users:** Paid ads, nothing else. The creative formula is a hot clip as the opener, a "keep watching free" line, and a direct install button, which only works if you have the rights to the clip.

**When to move:** The window is in Google's hands. Once Play cracks down on these shell apps, the model tightens. Learn the method on your own clean niche, which you can do now without chasing this short-drama wave.

**Signs you've misread it:** If in six months FrostBinge, RioReel and this batch of v-numbered siblings are still on Play and still getting spend, the books are thicker and the risk smaller than they look. If someone builds a "completely free, ad-supported" short-drama app on licensed content and hits a million installs, that's the version a small team can actually follow.

Where users come from

- **Confirmed** **Matrix seeding (multiple developer accounts from a Vietnamese shell company)** : The company name "VIET NHAT GROUP CONSTRUCTION" appears in three spellings, registered as three accounts, each holding one app (FrostBinge, RioReel, Celeb Prank Call Idol). The contact email is a personal gmail. The website assets sit at webapps-assets.pages.dev/apptest-v31-frostbinge, the same template as the v22/v28/v29/v30/v40 siblings, and 08-29 launched on the same day (Google Play library, website).

- Inferred **Paid acquisition (most likely Meta)** : RioReel, from the same shell company, runs 68 video ads on Meta (from 10-17, in English, Spanish and Indonesian, linking straight to Play). FrostBinge itself doesn't show up in the metaads library. Installs come in pulses (10-21 +73k, with a few days of about 0 in between), and the rating-to-install ratio is about 1:2000.

- **Confirmed** **Low-bar category chart placement** : 11-06, out of the top 200 on the Hong Kong Entertainment free chart, 33 are same-template shells, and 22 in Singapore. FrostBinge reached #58 in Hong Kong with +139k over 7 days (Google Play chart_rank).

- Inferred **Possibly incentivized reviews** : star distribution is 1★176 / 2★0 / 3★14 / 4★14 / 5★73. The two-sided spread is unnatural.

## FrostBinge - Drama Reels (com.frostbinge.dramareels.app): why it works

> Research date 2026-11-06. Data sources: googleplay library (app / app_snap / app_day_ext / chart_rank / v_chart / developer), metaads library (advertiser / ad / app_link), Google Play listing and website (read via r.jina.ai), Jina search, TikHub, x-radar. Earlier research in the same matrix: /home/ljr/fanout/why/out/play_com.mystreel.dramatime.app.md, play_com.wavedrama.shortepisodes.app.md.

### Bottom line

FrostBinge didn't succeed on product. It's one app from a Vietnamese "Netlify-template short-drama shell" matrix. Its website assets live at `webapps-assets.pages.dev/apptest-v31-frostbinge/`, numbered v31, sitting alongside DramaGo (v22), LumaReel (v28), MystReel (v29), TidalDrama (v30) and WaveDrama (v40). After launch it sat idle for over a month, then from October paid pulses pushed installs to 560k. It reached the free Entertainment charts in Hong Kong and Singapore because those chart bars are low: a few tens of thousands of installs can get into the top 100. Money comes back through ads, and the rating is 2.2 stars.

### 1. Data

- Cumulative installs over 560,817,7 days: +138,906 (Google Play app_profile, 11-06). 280 ratings, average 2.3 (library) / store page 2.2 stars, 283 reviews. Star breakdown is [1★176, 2★0, 3★14, 4★14, 5★73] (app_snap 11-06). Only 1 ratings per 2,000 installs, a typical ratio for paid-acquisition traffic. 2★ is 0 and 5★ has 73 ratings, so this two-ended distribution may partly come from prompted or bought five-star reviews (unverified).

- Launched 2026-08-29, version stuck at 1.0.2 (no updates since 9-22). `ad_supported=True`, `offers_iap=False`: ads only, no in-app purchases. The Play page shows "Contains ads", and the data safety section says device IDs are shared with third parties.

- Install curve (app_day_ext, AppstoreSpy estimates, spread evenly between observations): 10-02 only 4,602. After that 10-08 +17k, 10-13~15 at 1.5–25k a day, **10-21 single day +73k** , 10-25 +47k, reaching 422k by 10-27. From 10-29 on is our own collected data: 10-31 +53k (two days combined), 11-02 +47k, then it drops to 1.2–15k a day. In between are days that are almost 0 (10-06 +290, 10-11 +20, 10-16 +33, 10-29 +28). A shape like this comes from paid acquisition switched on and off. Organic growth doesn't look like this.

- For about 1 months after launch there was almost no traffic (10-02 had just 4.6k). The team put the app up first and only then allocated budget in batches.

- Charts (chart_rank 10-29~11-06): it only ever charted on the Entertainment free category chart, never overall or Top Grossing. Its best placements were **Hong Kong 47–68** , Singapore 74–96 and Spain 95–134. UAE, Australia, Canada, Taiwan and South Africa landed at 130–195. Argentina, Italy, Nigeria and Malaysia dropped it off the chart around 11-03, which suggests the countries being spent in are being adjusted.

### 2. Growth tactics

#### Matrix seeding (confirmed)

- The developer account is named "VIET NHAT GROUP CONSTRUCTION", the name of a Vietnamese construction company. The contact email is a personal gmail (trungnguyenn108@gmail.com), and the website and privacy policy sit at frostbinge-dramareels.netlify.app (googleplay app table).

- The same company name is registered on Play under **three developer accounts** , spelled slightly differently, each holding one app (googleplay developer table):
    - "VIET NHAT GROUP CONSTRUCTION": FrostBinge, 561k.
    - "VIET NHAT GROUP CONSTRUCTION JOINT STOCK COMPANY": **RioReel: Short Drama & Reels** , launched 07-29, 864k, 7 days +106k, with a different gmail (bam275613@). Its website assets sit under `apptest-shortdrama-v6`, an earlier naming scheme for this template.
    - "VIET NHAT GROUP CONSTRUCTION STOCK COMPANY": Celeb Prank Call Idol (package com.vietnhat.celeb.prank.call.idol), 341k, developer website umaxsoft.com.
    - One app per account spreads the ban risk. The unrelated apps mentioned in the card (dictionary, coloring, prank calls) don't match our library; we only see the prank-call one.

- The whole matrix comes from one template: the website copy ("Short dramas, made to binge", "is an independent app and is not affiliated with any other short-drama service"), page structure and screenshot naming (Src 1–6.webp) are identical, and they launched on the same day (08-29) as siblings like MystReel. In the library, apps with "Netlify website + launched after 2026-07 + short drama" number **51, 22.4M installs combined, 7 days +4.12M** (googleplay library, 11-06).

#### Paid acquisition (highly likely; FrostBinge itself doesn't show up in the Meta library)

- Metaads has no ads leading to `com.frostbinge.dramareels.app`. Searching by package name, ad copy, or Page name returns 0 results. Our library only tracks the Pages on our list, so no hits doesn't mean no spend. They may be running through Google App Campaigns.

- **RioReel, from the same shell company, is confirmed on Meta** : Page "RioReel: Short Drama" (139 likes) shows 68 ads, with 66 currently running. The earliest began 10-17. All are video, running on Facebook / Instagram / Audience Network / Threads, linking directly to Play. The copy is in English ("WATCH FOR FREE! Download now and follow every twist in the story."), Spanish ("¡DESCARGA Y SIGUE VIENDO tus episodios favoritos!") and Indonesian ("Gratis! Lanjut nonton!") (metaads ad / advertiser, 11-06). The same operator very likely buys FrostBinge the same way.

- Meta spend is also confirmed for other siblings in the matrix: AuraReel's Page "Practical Apps For Everyone" 1,197 ads, LumaReel's "LumaWorld" 549 ads (see the MystReel report).

- Circumstantial evidence: installs come in pulses, the ratings-to-installs ratio is very low, and the countries charted keep switching.

#### Low-bar category charts put it on the Hong Kong and Singapore charts (confirmed)

- In the Hong Kong Entertainment Top Free chart, 11-06 of the top 200 are shells from the same template: **33 of them** (the best one, AuraReel, ranks #16). Spain has 23, Singapore 22, and the UAE 19 (chart_rank + app tables). Above them on the Hong Kong chart are legit short-drama platforms like Hongguo, FreeReels, DramaBox and ReelShort. FrostBinge ranks #58, right next to its sibling apps DramaGo (#59) and ReelSaga (#66) from the same network.

- HK and Singapore have few Play users, so +7k global installs in 139 days are enough to chart #60–80 there. Charting also brings some store exposure, and got it into our recall.

#### How users say it makes money

- "so trash and full of ads and you'll watch them but they wouldn't lead you in the movie you wanted to watch" (Samantha Tañada, 10-14,41 found it helpful)

- "A LOT of adds and very few episodes to watch for free." (Erisa Avdulla, 10-19,27)

- "all ads without finishing, you close ads and surprise another ads coming" (Ellei Rahmanii, 10-10,45)

- In short: ads show clips of popular short dramas to pull people in. Once in the app, they sit through ad after ad, and the show from the ad is often not in the app at all.

#### Other channels

- X (x-radar, 60 days) mentions it 0 times; a TikHub search for "FrostBinge" only turns up unrelated ASMR ice-eating videos. Online there are only auto-generated pages from AppBrain, Appfigures, Similarweb and chrome-stats, plus an auto-generated TikTok discover page. No press coverage, no creator promotion.

### 3. Where the money comes from

No in-app purchases; revenue comes only from ads: interstitials, rewarded video, and "watch an ad to unlock an episode." This is paid-acquisition arbitrage: when CPI is lower than the ad revenue a user generates before uninstalling, there's profit. The content isn't original; the site states it is "not affiliated with any other short-drama service," so the source is most likely white-label, aggregated or re-uploaded (unverified). The team built dozens of packages from one template, spread across several shell company accounts, and adds budget to whichever package has positive ROI. FrostBinge at +7k in 139 days is mid-to-upper within the matrix. Reference: AuraReel +7k in 550 days, LumaReel +286k, MystReel +66k. Real revenue and ROI are not visible.

### 4. Competitors

| Product | Channel | Launched | Scale (googleplay library 11-06) | How FrostBinge differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ReelShort | Android / iOS | 2022 | 307M installs, +5.51M in 7 days | Original licensed shows, paid per episode / subscription; FrostBinge has no original content and relies only on ads |
| DramaBox | Android / iOS | 2023 | 307M, +2.92M in 7 days | Same as above |
| FreeReels / DramaWave(Skywork) | Android / iOS | 2024 | 246M / 152M | The "free + ads" leaders with real licensed libraries |
| NetShort, ShortMax, GoodShort | Android / iOS | 2023–2024 | 0.99–160M | Legitimate content platforms |
| Hongguo Short Drama (overseas edition) | Android | 2026 | 2.45M, #1 on the HK chart | ByteDance-backed, content and traffic built in |
| RioReel from the same shell company | Android | 2026-07-29 | 864k | An earlier version of the same operator's template (shortdrama-v6), confirmed running Meta ads |
| Sibling packages on the same template: AuraReel, DramaGo, LumaReel, ReelSaga, MystReel, WaveDrama and others | Android | 2026-07~10 | 51 packages combined, 22.4M | Barely any difference: same website template, same copy, only the names, shell companies and budgets differ |
| Other short-drama shells: Drama World Pro, Halo Reels Max, ShortFly Pro, AnyShort and others | Android | 2026 | Hundreds of thousands to a few million | Other teams running the Pro / Max multi-package or "earn money watching dramas" play |

### 5. Differentiation

**No differentiation.** The description, website, features, monetization and sibling packages are all one template with only the name and icon swapped. It gets installs because the operator allocated paid-acquisition budget, and the low bar in the HK and Singapore Entertainment charts makes it look like it's growing. The name "Frost / Binge" hasn't built brand recognition on any channel either.

### 6. Visibility and copycats

- Visibility: **few people know it** . 0 mentions on X and TikTok, no press coverage, revenue not public. But the "short-drama shell + paid acquisition + ads only" approach is already extremely crowded on Play: this matrix alone has 51 packages, and 200 of the top 33 in the HK Entertainment chart are from it.

- Copycats: it is itself a copycat. Sibling packages on the same template are listed above, and RioReel sits under the same shell company.

### 7. Takeaways

- Bulk template publishing: a netlify website + Cloudflare Pages asset library versioned by number, one set of copy, one company name registering several developer accounts with one package each. Launch everything first, then allocate budget by ROI.

- Meta video ads using popular short-drama clips, multilingual copy (English, Spanish, Indonesian) landing on Play, turning low-cost-region traffic into ad revenue.

- Chart in low-user regions (HK, Singapore, UAE) in the category free chart for extra store exposure.

- Risks: a rating around 2 stars, shows in ads that can't be found in the app (misleading ads), questionable authenticity of the shell company accounts, and a real chance of Play delisting or account bans at any time. Not suitable for teams planning to build long-term.

### 8. Still unclear

- FrostBinge's own acquisition channels (Meta / Google UAC / other) and spend: no direct evidence in the database.

- 5★ has 73 reviews, 2★ is 0; whether these are incentivized or bought positive reviews is unverified.

- Whether the content is licensed and how many shows actually exist in the app: unverified.

- Whether VIET NHAT is a real company that rented or sold its accounts, or whether the name was misused: unverified. The dictionary and coloring apps mentioned on the card are not in our database.

- The store page shows "500K+", consistent with the exact 560k in the database; but the listing date may have been reset when expanding to new regions.
