"Others make 300 rubles a month, here it's 450 rubles a week": how a Shenzhen team's free VPN hit #1 on the Russia store's Top Free chart after the Apple delistings
What it is A free VPN with a single button: no sign-up, no setup, built for ordinary Russian users who want YouTube, Roblox, and Telegram. Free with ads and time limits; paid as a weekly subscription.
Why it blew up In 2026, Apple pulled the major VPN and protocol clients in Russia in two waves, January and March. Fusvob launched shortly after the first wave and was never pulled. It caught the ordinary users left behind through store search, a top chart spot and word of mouth, then recouped the money with heavy ads and a weekly ruble subscription.
CWhat you could do Don't build another one-tap Russian VPN wrapper. If you do, go after what it does badly: working under mobile network whitelists, charging a few hundred rubles a month, and running fewer ads. Get users with TikTok Russian-language screen recordings showing "works on mobile data, still runs YouTube." The more useful takeaway is the method: watch which country's major tools get pulled from the store in bulk.

In the Google Play tools charts in the Netherlands and Germany, Fusvob VPN looks like a random new VPN. It's actually a Shenzhen company's free VPN built for Russian users, with its home base on the Russian iOS store: #1 overall free, around #25 overall grossing, and 114k ratings. It took off by filling the gap Apple left when it pulled VPNs from the Russian store in two waves in 2026. The product itself has nothing special. Anyone thinking of copying it should first see that the gap is now crowded with the same wrappers.
A one-star complaint about price that still gave three stars
On Nov 2026 5, a Russian user named jzmaks gave Fusvob three stars on the App Store:
It's a good VPN, but too expensive, so three stars. I'd actually pay, but others charge 300 rubles a month and this one charges 450 rubles a week. That's outrageous. Luckily it's free if you watch ads. I'm willing to pay to skip the ads, but not 450 a week.
The dozens of reviews from the same day and the day before are almost all the same: "works," "still works for now," "too many ads," "drops every two minutes," "paid for three months and it stopped working." Some users reported its ads for pushing scam websites (App Store Russia reviews, 11-04 to 11-05). One woman wrote: "Thank you, it lets me still see important things in the current situation."
One user complains about the price and the ads and still keeps it, giving it three stars anyway. The reason is simple: by 2026, few VPNs on the Russian App Store could still be downloaded and connected with one tap.
What it is: a one-button VPN wrapper
Open it and there's one connect button. No sign-up, no config import. The Russian store title is "Fusvob ВПН : Супер Быстрый VPN" (Super Fast VPN), and the US store name is "Super VPN 2026". The Russian description on Play names the apps directly: YouTube, Roblox, Telegram, WhatsApp, Instagram.
- iOS: The seller is Shenzhen Fuxin Hudong Technology (深圳富鑫互动), listed in Jan 2026 29.
- Android: the developer is listed as "Red Seek Limited," listed in August 17. Both versions share fusvob.com and the same FAQ. The iOS privacy policy sits on a different domain, cipheravpn.com, so the template site using the Fusvob name is also theirs.
Free users get a daily time allowance (some Play users say 6 hours a day, resetting the next day), with ads popping up throughout. Paid options are weekly and monthly subscriptions. The Play store page says "contains ads" while the description says "no ads."
Why now: Apple cleared the field for it
- In January 2026, Russian regulators required Apple to pull 25 VPNs from the Russian store, including NordVPN and Proton VPN (The Record, Kommersant).
- In the second wave, March 28, clients that required users to import their own nodes were also pulled, including Streisand, V2Box and v2RayTun (Meduza, DW).
- By late February, Russia had blocked 469 VPN services (Kommersant).
The big brands were gone, and so were the technical clients. What remained was a large crowd of ordinary people and teenagers who just wanted YouTube or Roblox. Fusvob launched shortly after the first wave, with one-tap connect, which caught exactly that crowd. On TikTok, around March 26 and 27 (around the second wave), Russian-speaking users were already recommending it in "which VPN should I get" videos.
How big it is
| Metric | Sources | |
|---|---|---|
| iOS Russia overall free chart | Holding steady at #1–3,11-02 since 10-28, #11-06 at one point, #1 | App Store charts |
| iOS Russia overall grossing chart | #24–33; the only VPN in the top 60 grossing in Russia | App Store charts |
| iOS ratings | 114,240 ratings, 4.48 stars; more than 3,000 new ratings in one week | App Store,11-06 |
| Android installs | 576k, 7 days +172k; about 57k in 9-10 hours | Google Play, 11-06; September figures are third-party estimates |
| Android charts | #5 free in the Russian tools category | Google Play Russia page, 11-06 |
Volume in other regions is small: the US has under 5,000 ratings, and Uzbekistan, Armenia and Belarus have a few hundred each. The users are basically Russians. It shows up on the Dutch and German charts, likely because of Dutch accounts or exported Russian users (inference).
Being #25 in grossing means steady subscription revenue every day, though the exact amount isn't visible from outside. What is clear is that the business makes money and collects from both sides: free users pay with ads, and paying users pay 450 rubles a week.
Where users come from
- Store search: Russian users search "впн" and "vpn," and there are few options left in the store. It packs Russian, English and the year into the title and subtitle.
- Charts: Once it reached #1 on the free overall chart, the chart itself became the biggest entry point. Ratings kept piling up, and its position grew more stable.
- Organic word of mouth: Searching it on TikTok turns up Russian teens' own "which VPN still works" videos, with thousands to over a hundred thousand views. On Q&A sites and Threads, people say "the last one got blocked, so I switched to fusvob." I found no large-scale influencer campaigns.
- Paid acquisition: Can't tell. Google and Meta stopped their ad businesses in Russia long ago. Any paid push would go through Yandex, VK or in-app ad networks, which can't be checked from outside.
The real large-scale VPN promotion on TikTok isn't from store apps but from Telegram bots: the "Fixvpn_bot saves you" video has 880k views, and one "StadVPN" post has 2.3M views. The key terms are "обход белых списков / глушилок" (bypass whitelists, bypass jammers) (TikTok, 11-06 search). Russia started whitelisting mobile networks this year, and regular VPNs increasingly fail on mobile data. Fusvob's recent one-star reviews say exactly this: "doesn't connect at all, and I still have to configure it" and "drops every two minutes" (App Store Russia, 11-04).
Who it's competing with
| Competitors | Status |
|---|---|
| Happ Plus VPN ++ | Listed 10-16, #2 free in Russia, 1,710 ratings, doubling every week |
| VPN Огонь - Speed vpn 2027 | Listed July, #3 free, 3,792 ratings, same naming pattern as Fusvob |
| Ping VPN | #4 free on iOS; 20.8M Android installs, far bigger on Android |
| incy | A Russian local team claiming to bypass whitelists, once reached #1 on the iPhone overall chart |
| Sota Connect | Launched February, #9 Top Free and #5.22M ratings in Top Grossing |
| ВПН Зайчик, VPNВПН2027, Jump VPN and others | Ranked #7–23 on the Russian free chart, with hundreds to thousands of ratings, mostly offshore "Limited" shells |
| Telegram bot VPNs | Not in the stores, so no pull risk, from 63 rubles a month, marketed on bypassing whitelists |
In the top 25 free apps in Russia, 8 or 9 are new VPNs using the same template, with names like "VPN + year + Супер Быстрый" (App Store Russia, 11-06). Fusvob has only two advantages: it got in early, and it was never pulled. Its rating count is several to dozens of times higher than the similar apps behind it, and that is its entire moat.
If it were you
C: worth learning from, not worth following. The gap is real and it makes money, but it's already crowded. If you copy it, you'll be the tenth "Super VPN 2027", and it could be pulled at any time, on a timeline you don't control. The takeaway is how to spot it: when a country's major tools get pulled from the store in bulk, that country's store has a supply gap. Whoever lists first and lasts longest captures the volume.
Who it's for: overseas teams that already run VPN nodes, risk control, and multi-entity app store operations, and who can accept that the product may be pulled at any time and relaunched under a new entity.
Who it's not for: indie developers and small teams. Nodes must be rotated constantly, blocking must be fought, and servers and bandwidth cost real money. In the overseas Chinese developer scene, "VPN for Russia" is an openly known niche, and new competitors launch every month. There are also compliance risks.
How to do it (if you must): don't build another one-tap wrapper in Russia. Build what it does badly. The most common complaints in reviews are two things: it doesn't connect under mobile whitelists, and it's too expensive with too many ads. For a reliable whitelist bypass, the Telegram bots on TikTok already sell at 63 rubles a month and up. On price, users are clear: other apps charge 300 rubles a month. A version that charges a few hundred rubles a month, runs fewer ads, and still connects under whitelists would have a real reason to pull users away.
How to get users: Russian store search plus short Russian-language TikTok videos. Copy the Telegram bot approach: screen-record "turn off Wi-Fi, switch to mobile data, YouTube still works," and state in one line what it bypasses.
When to move early: there is no fixed date. The window is set by regulators. The next wave of pulls, or a wider whitelist rollout, would reshuffle the charts.
Signs you've misread it: (1) Fusvob and the top similar apps get pulled in bulk within the next month or two, which means the store route is dead and volume shifts entirely to Telegram bots. (2) The reverse: if it still sits in the free top three and climbs in grossing through 2027, Apple's Russian store tolerates this kind of wrapper more than expected, and early entrants can ride it for a long time. (3) Once whitelisting spreads, its share of one-star reviews rises clearly and its rating drops below 4 stars, which means the one-tap wrapper format itself is becoming obsolete.

Fusvob VPN (com.fusvob.liapp): why it worked

Bottom line
1. Data: how big it actually is
Google Play (data card and googleplay library)
- Cumulative installs 575,644 (11-06), 7 days +172,316; rating 6,245, adding 170~318 per day.
- History backfilled from AppstoreSpy: 8-31 hr 6,894,9-10 hr 57k, 10-04 hr 182k, 10-27 hr 403k, 11-06 hr 576k. Growth hasn't stopped; the last two weeks add about 1.5~25k per day.
- Our library has no RU data. In our library it only appears on the Netherlands / Germany / UK utilities free charts (NL Utilities #31, NL overall #178). But the Play RU page reads "#5 топ бесплатных в категории «инструменты»" (#5 free in Tools, RU), the Russian title is "Fusvob ВПН : Супер Быстрый VPN", and the reviews are all in Russian (play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fusvob.liapp&hl=ru&gl=ru, read 11-06).
- The top 40 of the Dutch Tools free chart is crowded with Russian-language VPNs (LAMPA, Jump VPN, incy, Ping VPN, Premium VPN, etc., googleplay library 11-06). We suspect Russian users on Dutch exit nodes or Dutch accounts flooded the Dutch chart, unverified.
- The rating distribution looks suspicious: 5-star makes up 93% (5,778/6,245), and the 1~3-star counts jump up and down daily. Play RU replies to positive reviews with a fixed script.
iOS (the main market; appstore library and Apple lookup)
- App Store id 6758184735, seller "Shenzhen Fuxin Hudong Technology Co., Ltd." (developer name shown as Fuxin Technology), listed in 2026-01-29.
- RU: on the free overall chart since 10-28, consistently around #1–3 (11-02 and 11-06 were #1), top grossing #24–33. Rating 109,933 → 113,976 (10-28 → 11-06), +3,191 over 7 days (appstore library). In RU's top 60 grossing, it is the only VPN.
- Other storefronts are tiny: US 4,921, Uzbekistan 804, Armenia 436, Belarus 378 ratings. The users are essentially Russia and Russian-speaking regions.
- Third-party: an Appfigures screenshot of the RU iPhone overall chart has it at #2 (#1 is incy); AppBrain records its peak as #1 in RU Utilities top grossing (from a search snippet; the page hit a captcha and wasn't opened).

| Sota Connect(Cat Connect) | iOS | 2026-02-23 | #9 free, #52,20,528 top grossing by ratings | Monetizes harder. Fusvob's free volume is more than 5× its, and it ranks higher on top grossing |
| ВПН Зайчик, VPNВПН2027, Jump VPN, Incy VPN, etc. | iOS RU | 2026-06~09 | Ranked #7~23 on free charts, a few hundred to a few thousand ratings | Look-alike offshore Limited shells, mostly Chinese teams |
| OKO VPN, HypePN, Vsem VPN, Pipl VPN, LAMPA VPN | Android | Launched within 2026 years | Play: 500k~13M installs | Russian-language VPNs on Android were already crowded. Fusvob is a late, mid-sized entrant there |
| Telegram bot VPNs (Smart VPN bot, etc.) | Other | — | Unknown | No store, no takedown risk, but you pay and have to know what you're doing |
Bottom line: competition is heavy, and most of it looks just like Fusvob. The difference isn't the product. It's scale and survival time: it was listed in January and hasn't been pulled since, and its RU ratings are several times those of the next similar app.
3. Growth tactics
- Demand driven by platform events (confirmed): In 2026, RKN got Apple to pull 25 VPNs from the Russia store (including NordVPN and Proton VPN); 3-28 it pulled Streisand, V2Box, v2RayTun, and one version of Happ (meduza.io/news/2026/03/28, therecord.media/apple-app-store-russia-vpns). By the end of February 2026, Russia had blocked 469 VPN services (kommersant.ru/doc/8550078). There's a hard need behind it too: users want YouTube, Instagram, Telegram, WhatsApp, and Roblox. Fusvob's Russian Play listing names these apps outright. On TikTok, around 2026-03-26/27 (right before and after the second round of removals), videos titled "посоветуйте впн" ("recommend a VPN") already surface fusvob in search.
- Store search and ASO (verified): The Russian title is "Fusvob ВПН : Супер Быстрый VPN", the US title is "Super VPN 2026", and the Play subtitle is "ВПН бесплатно — Быстрый и конфиденциальный VPN". Both Russian and English VPN keywords are stuffed in. Anyone searching "впн/vpn" in the Russian store has very few options left.
- Chart flywheel (verified): Ranking #1~2 on the Russian free overall chart is itself the biggest funnel. Its #1 position on the Russian utilities chart also shows on Apple's official page (apps.apple.com/ru/iphone/charts/6002).
- Word of mouth and UGC (partly verified): Searching "fusvob" on TikTok turns up Russian-speaking teens' organic "which VPN still works" videos, with thousands to 167k views (TikHub search). There are also Q&A threads on otvet.mail.ru and Threads posts saying "hit VPN got blocked, I downloaded fusvob." I haven't seen any large-scale creator campaigns.
- Two entities, iOS and Android (verified): iOS is run by Shenzhen Fuxin Hudong, and Play by "Red Seek Limited". The contact email is a personal Gmail ([email protected]), and the privacy policy is hosted on Google Sites. This structure limits fallout when one listing is pulled and makes it easy to re-list under a new account. The Play launch date is 2026-08-17, more than six months after iOS.
- Paid ads (not found): It doesn't appear in the Meta, TikTok, or Google ad libraries (those only track products on our watchlist). Google and Meta have stopped ad business in Russia since 2022, so any real spend would go to Yandex, VK, or in-app ad networks, which we can't see. Can't confirm.
4. Where the money comes from
- Ads: Play labels it "contains ads." The most common complaint in iOS reviews is "an ad pops up every time you tap a button": opening the app, connecting, disconnecting, and switching nodes all show ads (unstar.app read 242 negative reviews from 2026-07-28, and about 30% complain about this). Users also report ads pushing scam sites (Apple Russian RSS, 11-04). With hundreds of thousands of daily active users in Russia and an ad on every connection, ads are very likely one of the main revenue sources.
- Subscriptions: The Android FAQ lists weekly and monthly VIP plans. Russian reviews mention "450 rubles a week" and "1000 rubles a week / a month" (Apple RSS 11-05, unstar.app). The free tier gives "6 hours a day" or "disconnects every 30 minutes," which pushes users to upgrade (Russian Play reviews, unstar.app). The Russian top-grossing chart holds around #25, which suggests subscription revenue is substantial.
- Negative reviews focus on dropped connections, not working after being charged, and still being charged after canceling. But for Russian users, "still downloadable in the store and connects with one tap" matters more than the experience.
5. Why it took off
- Timing: In 2026, Russia kept blocking VPNs and Apple ran two large removal rounds, taking out the mainstream and protocol clients and leaving a big supply gap on the Russian App Store. It launched in January 29, just after the first removal round.
- It lasted: Similar apps kept getting pulled and blocked and were swapped out. It went from January to November and still sits at #1, with ratings accumulating (114k). Ranking, ratings, and reputation kept pulling each other up.
- Zero friction: No sign-up, no setup, one tap to connect. Clients like Streisand and V2Box make users configure nodes themselves. This one caught ordinary users and teens directly (reviews say "works for YouTube, Roblox, TG").
- Aggressive monetization: Ads on every action, capped free time, weekly ruble subscriptions. The UX is poor, but the revenue covers server costs and the ongoing churn of new nodes. Ranking #25 on the Russian top-grossing chart is the proof.
- Two platforms, two entities: After iOS took off, August saw it copied to Play under another entity, reaching 570k installs in three months and ranking #5 on the Russian utilities chart.
6. Differentiation
No product differentiation: It's a standard Chinese-team VPN shell. Its edge is operational: ① it entered earlier than most competitors and has lasted the longest; ② it made Russia, a market hollowed out by regulation, its main battlefield, with full localization (Russian titles, Russian FAQ, explicit mentions of Roblox / Telegram / WhatsApp support); ③ it monetized hard. That's why it ran. Similar apps keep appearing every month (Happ Plus and VPN Огонь both launched around 7~October). Its moat is first-mover advantage and accumulated ratings, and RKN could pull it at any time.
7. Visibility and copycats
- Visibility: No mainstream media coverage, no discussion on X (x-radar shows 0 posts in the last 90 days), and no public revenue figures. The only coverage is one unstar.app review analysis, plus auto-generated pages from Appfigures, AppBrain, and FoxData. It does sit at #1 on the Russian free chart, and "building VPNs for Russia" is an openly discussed niche in Chinese going-global circles, so it's "whispered about in small circles," and the niche is already crowded.
- Copycats: Among the top 25 on the Russian free chart, 8~9 similar new VPNs (Happ Plus VPN ++, VPN Огонь - Speed vpn 2027, ВПН: Огонь Jump VPN, Incy VPN Випиэн, VPNВПН2027, ВПН Зайчик, ВПН: X Fast Super VPN, and others) follow the same template: "VPN + year + Супер Быстрый." cipheravpn.com also uses the "Fusvob Vpn" name and template site (unverified whether it's the same operator).
8. What others can borrow
- Follow regulatory events and platform removals: when a mainstream tool is pulled in a given country, the store there gets a supply gap, and whoever can "legally stay listed" captures the volume (markets like Russia, Iran, Myanmar).
- Pick iOS as the main battlefield and collect subscriptions through carrier billing on the App Store. Replicate on Android under a separate entity.
- Free through time limits and ads, paid through weekly billing: a natural two-stream model of ads plus subscriptions.
9. Still unclear
- iOS Russia ramp timeline: our data starts only in 10-28. unstar.app says that by late July there were about 1,857 ratings (region unspecified). If true, most of the growth happened in 8~October, possibly linked to Russia's mobile-network whitelisting and shutdowns in summer and autumn 2026, unverified.
- Whether it buys traffic on Yandex, VK, or in-app ad networks: not visible.
- Whether 93% of Play ratings at 5 stars reflect incentivized or fake reviews: can't confirm.
- Whether Fuxin Hudong and Red Seek Limited are the same people, and whether there are other shell companies: same domain and same FAQ, so probably the same group, but no other shells found.
- Compliance risk: RKN could have Apple pull it at any time. This is its biggest uncertainty.
