A Pakistani spent 1000 rupees trying to buy private videos: Gavo hit 520k installs in two months after launch, powered by a going-global pipeline

What it is A 1v1 paid video chat app where users buy coins to take private video calls with hosts, and buy VIP. The store listing dresses it up as a social dating app.

Why it took off The product is an off-the-shelf template that hasn't been updated since launch. Google paid acquisition drove 14k installs a day over the first six weeks, and it hit the Top Grossing chart in Pakistan, where competition is thin, and paid back. A string of sibling apps built on the same template have been rotating in behind it.

DHow you could approach it Indie devs should skip this. It only makes sense for teams already running going-global social apps, with host supply and a paid acquisition budget. Those teams could copy the playbook: spread spend across many countries first, then concentrate on long-tail markets like Pakistan, and sell tokens and VIP separately to avoid refund-driven bad reviews.

D grade: the category is packed with dozens of same-template clones and multi-account operations. Competition comes down to host supply, ad budget, and the ability to survive account bans. There's no product-side room to do better, and a team of one or two people can't afford the entry ticket. Few people know about it yet

A 1-star review

In 2026 Oct 10, a Pakistani user named Mudassir Khan left a 1-star review on Gavo's store page:

I paid 1000 PKR by mistake. I wanted tokens for private video calls but this app charged me for VIP. VIP is useless, it cannot be used for private calls. ——I paid 1000 rupees by mistake. I wanted tokens for private video calls, but I was charged for VIP. VIP is useless, it can't be used for private calls. Customer service refused a refund.

11 people marked it helpful. The developer, PT TRUE FAST NET, replied the same day with a standard courtesy line, telling him to contact [email protected].

1000 rupees is roughly 3.6 US dollars. This review explains the product better than the store description does: the app has two things to buy, tokens (coins) that get deducted for private video calls, and VIP, which is separate. The people paying are mostly Pakistani male users. Scrolling back, a user wrote in Sep 16: "App is good, just too expensive." The developer replied: "This price is the base price for this kind of product, already very cheap."

What it is

The store description is so generic it doesn't reveal what's being sold: "helps people connect, chat, and build meaningful relationships worldwide". The one-line pitch is "Meet new people, chat, match, and connect through video calls", and the content rating is 12+.

The official site gavo.cc is a single templated landing page with "10M+ Conversations started", "1643+ People matching now", and "4.8★" (promotional numbers, don't take them literally). The feature list gives the game away: Easy Coins (send gifts with coins, live interaction), Profile Visitors (see who viewed you), and Follow Creators (follow hosts). The opening of the privacy policy is more direct: "a global video chat platform designed for adults", limited to ages 18 and up.

Taken together, it's a very mature type of going-global social app: the app features hosts or companion chat, users buy coins, pay per minute for private video calls and gifts, and VIP is sold on the side. In-app purchases run from $0.99 to $99.99 each (Google Play, 11-06). There's no download-based verification of whether the hosts in the app are real people or fake profiles.

Numbers: a steep climb over the first six weeks, then halved

Two readings. First, 520k installs produced only 918 ratings, so engagement is shallow and the traffic was largely bought. The curve, steepest in the first six weeks and halving by mid-October, looks like heavy spend during launch followed by cutting budget or creative fatigue (inference). Second, it sits outside the top 40 on every free chart in every country, and only reaches #33 on Pakistan's Top Grossing chart. It spread spend across 85 countries, and the market that actually made the numbers work is Pakistan: willingness to pay is fairly high there, and the big platforms haven't saturated it.

Where users come from: paid acquisition, and only paid acquisition

  • Google Ads: The Google Ads Transparency Center lists an advertiser with the same name, "PT TRUE FAST NET", verified, registered in Hong Kong, with about 7 creatives. From 11-04 to 11-06 no active ads were found. The developer uses an Indonesian company name while the advertiser is in Hong Kong. This combination is common among Chinese going-global teams that open accounts under Southeast Asian entities (inference).
  • Meta / TikTok ads: Nothing found (TikTok was only checked for European targeting; not finding something doesn't mean it wasn't run).
  • Organic content: Searching "gavo app" on TikTok only returns unrelated accounts with the same name. Nobody has mentioned it on X in the past two months. The only results online are the store page and APK download sites.

No content, no media, no word of mouth, and four weeks of growth at 400k. It can only be paid traffic.

Who's behind it: a family of sibling apps ending in .gp

Gavo's developer account has only this one app, with a personal Gmail as the contact. But on Google Play you can find a batch of social apps that look identical: package names all end in .gp, in-app purchases all run $0.99–$99.99, version numbers all start with 1.1.x, developers all use Indonesian personal names or Indonesian PT company names, and all launched in 2026.

Data: Google Play, 11-06.

Sonnet and Gavo launched on the same day, with store update timestamps 19 minutes apart. Meli's website and gavo.cc use the same kind of landing page, with the same style of promotional numbers. These are circumstantial clues. We have no hard evidence like a shared backend or shared SDK, so "same company" is speculation; the safer reading is that they use the same white-label template or come from the same provider that opens accounts and publishes apps on behalf of others. The playbook: if one app doesn't perform, ship the next. Put more budget behind whichever one pays back, and if one gets banned, another fills the gap.

Who it's competing with

This category is crowded. On the social charts in the same countries (Google Play, 11-06):

ProductScaleCompared with Gavo
OmeTV250M installs, +970k this weekA 2015-year-old random video chat app with organic traffic
Bigo Live, Tango, SUGO, Chamet0.8–850M installsBig platforms with brand and host ecosystems
Timo / Timo Club27M / 52MSame matrix playbook, two orders of magnitude bigger
MeetJoy(METAZ)660k, growing about 160k a weekLaunched a month after Gavo, with weekly growth 3 times Gavo's
Koko, Linko, Sube20–1.5M, weekly growth 9–190kNew apps under Indonesian-name accounts, moving even faster

Among the new apps, Gavo is mid-tier. It lives off the long-tail paid traffic left over from the big platforms, and ahead of it are dozens of same-template apps plus new shells that appear every month.

If it were you

Verdict: Understand the playbook, but don't copy it. 1v1 paid coin video chat does make money, but the contest is about whose template is more mature, who has more host supply, deeper ad budgets, and accounts and payments that can withstand risk controls, not whose product is better. Gavo is just one part of that pipeline.

Who it fits: Teams already running going-global social apps, with host agency or companion supply, a Hong Kong or Southeast Asian entity, and tens of thousands of dollars for test spend that can absorb account bans. For them, Gavo is a market map: Pakistan, Egypt, Bangladesh, and Iraq are long-tail countries that still pay back.

Who it doesn't fit: Indie developers working alone or in pairs. You won't have host supply, you can't withstand Google Play's review and payment risk controls for this kind of app, and you can't outrun a six-app matrix run by one operator.

How to do it (if you're already in this space): Spread low-cost spend globally first, see which countries get onto the Top Grossing chart, then concentrate budget there. Keep store copy generic and put the real paid features inside the app. Avoid Gavo's pitfall by selling tokens and VIP separately and explaining clearly what each does. Its only highly upvoted negative review is about buying the wrong thing with no refund.

How to acquire users: Google App Campaigns as the main channel, spread across many countries. There's no content channel to speak of.

When to get in: There is no window. This category always has new shells launching, so the window depends on your budget and how long your accounts survive, not on timing.

What would mean we got it wrong: ① If someone is getting a new 1v1 video app to thousands of installs a day through organic content (TikTok, short video) instead of paid acquisition, then small teams have a way in here too; ② If the newest packages charting in long-tail markets like Pakistan over the next few months are mostly independent accounts with no matrix behind them, then the barrier is lower than it looks.

Why Gavo (com.gavo.gp) took off

Channel: Google Play | Developer account: PT TRUE FAST NET | Store launch 2026-09-01 | Research date 2026-11-06

Bottom line

Gavo didn't take off on the strength of its product. It's another reskin of the global "1v1 paid video chat" template: a developer account registered under an Indonesian company name, while the Google Ads account is registered in Hong Kong. It shipped version 1.1.1 two days after launch (9-02) and hasn't been updated since. After launch it grew through paid acquisition, averaging about 14K installs a day from 9-18 to 10-16, then dropped to 5–7 thousand a day. Spend is spread wide, across South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. The money comes from Pakistan: #33 in social grossing and #151 overall grossing (AppWinners, 11-06). Malaysia also charts in social grossing (177). Users buy coins to make 1v1 private video calls, and VIP is also sold. In the same period there was a batch of sibling packages with the same .gp package suffix, the same in-app purchases at $0.99–$99.99, the same 1.1.x version numbers, and registrations under Indonesian names or Indonesian PT companies: Meli (1.5M), Sonnet, Pecy, Mitu, Beco. Sonnet and Gavo launched and updated on the same day, which looks like one matrix (unconfirmed). On differentiation, there's none in the product. It scaled because of the pipeline: an off-the-shelf template, multiple accounts, paid acquisition, and picking countries with high willingness to pay and little competition.

How to read it:

  • The first six weeks were the strongest, 1.4–15K a day; after mid-October it fell to about 6 thousand a day. That's the shape of paid acquisition: spend in a burst, then cut budget (or creatives fatigue). The "steps" after 10-29 in our library (+15K, 0, 0, +22K…) jump like this, but only once every 2–3 days, which matches the cadence of Play's maxInstalls updates, so don't treat it as evidence of budgets being turned on and off.
  • Charted in 85 countries worldwide, but every ranking is below #40, which means broad spend with no country near the top. The country that actually makes money is Pakistan: its grossing rank (33) is far better than its free-chart rank anywhere else, and the only highly upvoted negative review is also from a Pakistani user (who paid 1000 rupees).
  • 520K installs only produced 918 ratings and 3 written reviews. Engagement is shallow, typical of bought traffic.

2. What it is

  • The store description is generic: "social discovery platform… build meaningful relationships worldwide"; the one-line summary is "Meet new people, chat, match, and connect through video calls."
  • The official site gavo.cc is a single landing page that reads like AI-written copy ("10M+ Conversations started", "1643+ People matching now", "4.8★" are all promotional numbers). Its selling points include Coins (send gifts, live interaction), Profile Visitors (see who looked at you), Follow Creators (follow hosts). The privacy policy opens with "a global video chat platform designed for adults" and is limited to users 18 and over.
  • User reviews on the store page spell out how payment works (Play store page, read via Jina):
    • Mudassir Khan (10-10,1 stars, 11 people found it helpful): "I accidentally paid 1000 PKR. I wanted tokens for private video calls, but it charged me for VIP, and VIP can't make private calls. Support refused a refund."
    • Maha Bub (9-16): "The app is good, but it's too expensive." The developer replied: "This is the base price for this kind of product, and it's already cheap."
  • So it's a standard "host / companion + coins billed per minute + VIP" 1v1 video chat model, monetizing paying demand from male users in South Asia and the Middle East.

3. Who's behind it: likely a matrix of .gp domains

Developer account: PT TRUE FAST NET (an Indonesian PT company name), with a personal gmail as the contact ([email protected]) and [email protected] as support email. In our library this account has only this one app. Google Ads account: Ads Transparency shows an advertiser named "PT TRUE FAST NET", verified, registered in Hong Kong, with a listing showing about 7 creatives. We tracked it from 11-04 to 11-06 and saw nothing actively running (googleads library, advertiser AR01085711700285456385). An Indonesian company name with a Hong Kong advertiser is a common setup for Chinese going-global teams using Southeast Asian entities to open accounts (inference). iOS: Apple has a developer account with the same name, id6779050513, and a search snippet once showed a Lifestyle app called "Baly-Scene". Lookup now finds no apps, so it may have been pulled, or it may be a disguise that got a different category approved (unverified).

Sibling packages with the same template (googleplay library; traits: package name ends in .gp, in-app purchases $0.99–$99.99, version 1.1.x, developer is an Indonesian name or Indonesian PT plus a personal gmail, social apps launched in 2026):

  • Sonnet and Gavo launched on the same day, and their store update timestamps are both 9-02 early morning (02:41 / 03:00, UTC+8), with version numbers both in 1.1.x.
  • Meli's official site meli.club/index.html and gavo.cc/index.html share the same AI-generated landing page style, and the promotional numbers are written the same way ("10M+", "4.9★").
  • All of the above is circumstantial evidence. We haven't found hard evidence like a shared backend, shared SDK, or shared privacy policy, so "same team" is speculation. The safer claim is that they use at least the same white-label template, or come from the same agency that opens accounts and publishes apps on clients' behalf.
  • The whole category opens accounts under Indonesian names or Indonesian company names: Koko (Nikmatul Global), Linko (Ratna Dhita), and Sube (PT SANDI DAYA GUNA) also appear on charts in these same countries.

Matrix / multi-account reskins6 sibling apps from the same Indonesian account with the same .gp suffix, the same in-app purchase price range and the same version number format, all launched the same day as SonnetStrong circumstantial evidence; same team not confirmed
Market selectionIts best chart position was Pakistan (33) in Top Grossing, where competition is weaker than in the Gulf or Southeast Asia; reviews mention PKR paymentsConfirmed (AppWinners, store reviews)

Where the money comes back from: coins (private video tokens) and VIP in-app purchases. Highest single payment $99.99; a store review mentions someone paying 1000 rupees in one go (about $3.6). It charted in Top Grossing in Pakistan and Malaysia, so at least part of the spend is covered by in-app purchases. Overall ROI unknown.

6. Why it took off

  1. Ready-made template, can spend right after launch: a 1.1.1 build went out the day after launch and there were no updates for the next two months (app_snap, AppInsider). The product does not need iteration; all the money goes into acquisition.
  2. Acquisition-driven growth: from 9-18 to 10-16 over four weeks, up about 400k, averaging 14k a day (AppstoreSpy estimate). No organic content or media coverage, so it must be paid traffic; the Hong Kong-registered Google ad account is direct evidence.
  3. Cast a wide net, monetize in low-competition countries: charted in 85 countries, with free chart positions mostly beyond #40, yet it reached #33 in social Top Grossing in Pakistan. Markets like Pakistan, where willingness to pay is decent and top-player density is low, made the numbers work.
  4. Matrix spreads the risk: same-template siblings launched one after another (9-01, 10-09, 10-13, 10-18); whichever one performs gets more budget, and if one gets banned, the others can fill in.

7. Differentiation

No product differentiation: the listing, website, features (matching, private chat, video, coins, VIP, "who viewed me") are identical to dozens of other 1v1 video apps out there. It only differs in three ways: the distribution structure of an Indonesian account with a Hong Kong advertiser, broad country targeting (reaching Pakistan, Egypt, Bangladesh and Iraq, where top apps have less coverage), and being one app in a matrix. These are why it worked, not the product itself.

8. What to borrow

  • A "template + multiple accounts + multiple package names" pipeline: one backend reskinned into new apps, developer entities set up as Southeast Asian companies or individuals, advertisers registered as Hong Kong companies.
  • Buy acquisition globally first, then see which countries' Top Grossing charts it can climb (here, Pakistan), and concentrate spend in the countries that pay back.
  • Vague store copy (social discovery), with the real nature of paid video companionship placed inside the app and in the Coins description on the website, to lower review risk; don't push updates after launch.
  • Pitfall: selling VIP and coins together causes accidental purchases and refund disputes (that's where the bad reviews come from), which puts the store rating and payment risk control at risk.

9. Still unclear

  • Whether Gavo and Meli, Sonnet, Pecy, Mitu and Beco are the same company (only circumstantial clues: package names, in-app purchases, version numbers, landing pages).
